This can be solved simply by buying the game and getting 50/50 for yourselves.

Wrong solution. ANet can give GW2 players access to the HoM content through the GW2 interface or just keep the HoM points to 0. That would be simple and just.

Don’t be envious of our achievement points, anyhow. 500 points really isn’t that big of a bonus.

Oh they aren’t? Try completing the giant slayer for 16 AP or build 5 legendaries for 25 AP or escort 500.000 dolyaks in WvW for 56 AP. Then maybe you’ll see how much 500 points are related to those achievements, that are not done by everyone anyhow.

Why do you think it’s unfair when you can get the achievement points too?

That is still simple: Because you cannot get them in GW2!

And try getting 50 points – I can guarantee you that it’s almost like making a legendary if not harder.

And a legendary is worth 5 points, getting 5 legendaries is 25 points, against 500 for HoM…

yet they don’t want to get any HoM points.

Sure, I’d go there anytime and get all the HoM points I can manage, but it must be achievable through the GW2 interface. Any achievements that are not achievable through the GW2 interface should not be counted towards the GW2 achievement points.

if a gw1 veteran had 500 ap’s more than me, he/she earned them.

But that’s exactly the point. They did not earn those points. They were just given to them for free. What they earned was a title, skins, and such. Have fun with it. And if the devs want to hand out some more stuff to those “veterans” – by all means, send them a fully loaded chest! But achievement points should only count for deeds done through the GW2 interface, hence please no HoM points.

500 points is nothing….

To pick up on my racing analogy, yes, racing 500 km with the current GW2 motorcycles is fast compared to running those 500 km on your old GW1 bicycle.

I suggest buying GW1, you’ll never play another game better than it in your life.

And there you are quite wrong. I tried playing GW1 (pre GW2 release) and at least its interface pretty much sucks, compared to a modern Interface like in GW2.

So, some people endured this painful experience and want compensation for it? Fine, give them the trophies for their efforts (which they already did, btw, so just give those gw1-we-put-much-time-in-the-game-whiners simply an additional chest and be done with it).

The key issues still remain:
- some GW1 players cannot accept the fact that a new interface means a new game
- achievements can either be small or require a lot of dedication
- the amount of points awarded for an achievement is arbitrary, but everyone interested in those points could start by earning the easy points first
- achievement points should only be awarded for anything achieved with the current game interface
- achievement points are currently the only kind of “game completion” measurement (if you did not participate in some events or your dailies, you did not “complete” those aspects, although I strongly favor them to be completable even after the main event concluded, as well as a hard cap for daily and monthly)

BTW: If some of you think achievement points are meaningless, then stop defending the meaningless 500 HoM points. After all, Guild Wars itself is meaningless and no one would care if they shut down the servers tomorrow, would you?

You need 5 achievements to get your daily. Anet provides multiple choices. That’s not a chore.

As you might (not?) have noticed, this thread is about achievement points, this means you have 15 achievements to complete each day as daily chores. It’s not about the 5 dailies to get your laurels.

Well I just don’t understand what all the brouhaha is about. If you look at it all it gets you is one chest. For 29.99 you to can buy the trilogy and get the same thing.

Like I already said: If they want to give their returning customers a reward chest, by all means, send the chest to all those HoM people by mail. But keep the GW2 score to GW2 only!

And I already have GW1, but the interface is simply not what I expect from a game those days, so I wait for the GW1 content to be accessible via the GW2 interface. Until it is, they are 2 separate games, and points from one should in no way influence the other games’ score.

It hardly seems like your happy with the game at all if you let the fact that some players got a measly 500 points have such a huge effect on you.

Oh, you think that one bad aspect in this game makes all the difference between happiness and utter despair? If they suddenly changed your favorite skin to look like commonplace garb or if the one legendary weapon use use suddenly no longer had any special effect on it, while all other legendaries still did, wouldn’t you complain about this, too?

Those 500 points should be treated like any other flaw in the game: addressed and fixed soon.

I don’t find them chores at all. Most of them on most days get done incidentally.

Indeed, since about every other day you incidentally do things like Keg brawl steals, or 40 kills in Ascalon while doing 4 events in Maguuma.
Things like personal story completer are especially commonplace once you are done with Zhaitan. Not to mention fractals (of which nowadays some people go and complete ONE level 1 fractal, just to get the achievement) or dungeons (both explorer and story mode). And daily WvW achievements are quite dependent on your server’s success if you don’t want to be on hours in WvW. Oh, btw, remember your daily crab tossing? And last but nor least is the common costume brawl for all those people who did not purchase the mad king gem outfit.

I doubt it can get much “chorier”…

Sure, you raced a bicycle race and now want those points earned there in the current race, because we are riding motorcycles now and both races use 2 wheeled vehicles. Completely understandable.

If the GW1 achievement points didn’t count to the leaderboard it would solve everything.

I think dailies/monthly would have to be removed too.

Two different problems. Dailies and monthlies have pretty much always counted. Anet didn’t change that mid-stream. They didn’t change how anyone already stood on the leaderboard.

They should be removed from the in-game score as well. It’s simply a measurement of GW2 “completion”. Although I do favor a way to relive the old stories just like any other personal story.

As for dailies and monthlies, they changed the amount of points they gave as well as the amount of deeds included, and several times at that. But, this could be leveled out by capping daily/monthly AP (i.e. 450/500), just like Hobby Dungeon Explorer.

I agree that dailies and monthlies shouldn’t count but Anet is not going to change that because it’s encouraging people to log in, the whole point of dailies.

The dailies and monthlies still give other rewards besides AP (laurels, xp, karma, items, silver), which should still be incentive enough to log in and do some of those.

I’ve supported the development of gw2 since 2007! Way before the hype and even the dragon logo.

Oh? You gave them a substantial amount of money? You wrote some GW2 code? Or did you just talk about a game that would eventually exist, if its development fit into the company’s business plan?

Most GW1 veterans just played a game and got what they paid for. They did not put a single dime more into the development of GW2 (which is a completely new product, in business terms) than everyone else who bought GW2.

ANet had the brilliant idea to launch the new product with a link to the old one so their existing customers would most likely transition over to the new product, making the new product much more likely a success, yes.

But this does in no way mean that the GW1 player achieved anything more than a non-GW1 player in GW2. And since those are achievement points, they should only be some measure of how much someone achieved in GW2 compared to other players in GW2 – all other “returning customer bonuses”, like skins, titles, etc. are independent of those points.

And if ANet wants to hand out some more presents (items, gold, boosts), well, by all means give everyone with HoM achievements an appropriate chest by mail containing those presents, but keep the points out of it!

Those players invested money and time into NOT GW1! But into Anet in the GW franchise.

Why does everyone seem to think that by buying and playing GW1 they funded GW2?

At the beginning, a company invested money to program a game, set up servers and pay the maintenance costs (hardware, software, personnel). Then players come in and start paying for the game. Then after a certain amount of players bought the game (and some other stuff) once those investments paid off the company starts making money (companies are about that sort of thing, be assured). But while they get money from their customers they still have to pay their personnel and maintenance, so what you pay there is mainly used for maintaining the current company infrastructure (and some profit, too).

Then after a while their current cash cow is starting to dry up, they start investing money in the next product and the aforementioned cycle starts again.

But… This actually means that only those players who bought GW2 and gems in the GW2 store actually paid for GW2 and made GW2 possible… Surprise!

What people don’t understand is that this game is called GUILD WARS 2, not “NEW GAME 1” so it’s totally normal that fans of Anet that played the 1, get a little reward in the 2.

You simply don’t get it. Is there anything, anything at all, you do in GW2 that affects your game in GW1? If not, then GW2 is a different and new game that only basically shares a theme with its predecessor.

You don’t wanna play GW1? Well, you didn’t bought the game+expansion and you simply don’t deserve this reward. You didn’t played tons of hours on GW1, you don’t deserve it again.

I bought GW1+GW2, but only want to play GW2 since GW2 simply has a far better game mechanic and interface. If you can show me how to achieve the 50/50 HoM through the GW2 interface only, then there is a reason for those points being rewarded in GW2 – if not, there is no reason at all for GW1 players to get any free achievement points in GW2, since they did not achieve those in GW2!
They already got their “loyalty” rewards! But instead of being grateful they already got stuff to show that no GW2-only player can display, some even claim that having spent time in the past playing another game entitles them for even more and more free rewards. Pure greed – disgusting!

ANet should really change the AP system, even though I am repeating myself:
- No AP for HoM
- Max cap for daily monthly (like Hobby Dungeon Explorer and Agent of entropy)
- re-open historical stories in private instances for new players to both follow the story and get the missed AP

Its not like you cant go & earn them like everyone else did.

You cannot ride a dead horse, mate.

It’s not dead, go fire up GW1 & go earn yourself those 500 AP.

I already tried playing GW1, and the game is quite dead. But there is a living successor to GW1, you might have heard of it? GW2?

And those of you who think they are the same game, well, what do you have to do in GW2 to get any bonus in GW1? If there are such things, then maybe you have the same game and they are linked. If not, they are two separate games, and GW1 players really got their fancy titles, skins, etc. as a well earned compensation. But, in GW2 they achieved nothing within GW2, so there should be no achievement points awarded there.

One sad truth about this is, that those players with a high AP count (those that usually care about those points), are also some of the most active and (thus) maybe for ANet among the most profitable players. The shame on losing these players would be on those greedy, selfish and arrogant GW1 players who were not satisfied with having played a good game and being rewarded but think they deserve more and even more free rewards in GW2 just because they spent a lot of time in GW1 already.

If ANet feels the GW1 players needs more rewards, well, send those deserving a chest by mail, but keep the past out of the present game.

Obviously it’s important to the devs to remember where GW2 came from by rewarding GW1 players

They have already been rewarded.

GW2 wouldn’t exist without the time, creativity, resources, and energy that went into GW1 on the part of the devs and community of players who supported them.

The devs, maybe. But, do you think ANet would have succeeded at GW2 without the new players that joined up playing a new game?
So, on the contrary, all GW1 players should be very thankful for every non-gw1 player joining in GW2 to support Anet by buying the game and maybe some gems so that Anet can continue to support the GW(1+2) players and keep their favorite world open and alive!

How does it effect anyone negatively who didn’t play GW1, that GW1 players get a pointless GW2 reward that you could earn a month after them?

That’s the point: you cannot keep up with 500 AP in a month. You cannot “keep up” with 500 free AP even in a year, unless GW1 players suddenly stop playing their dailies/monthlies.

You’re all blessed to have those shoulders to stand on, be thankful for the great game you you have… ingrates!

Yes, indeed. All GW1 players should really thank those GW2 customers on their knees every day they start either game.

every dungeon master you do more then other player = win, every agent of entropy you do over other player = win.

Wrong. Both achievements are capped. You get 200 and 250 points out of them. After that, 0.

Gw1 players were promised nice rewards for playing hall of monuments.

You played GW1, you get your unique rewards (title, skin, pet) in GW2, but since you achieved nothing in GW2 there, you should not be rewarded with a single achievement point.

Not happy? go buy the game and do it yourself.

Not happy with those rewards? Go back and play GW1 then, if this was the better game.

Wether you like it or not. It’s is very selfish of the ppl who never played gw1, to want to be the best in gw2, and think gw1 veterans deserve no bonus.

Whether you like it or not, it’s very selfish of those people who played GW1 and demand even more freebies in GW2, which is a new game in itself, much unlike GW1 and its addons!

All non gw1 players should realize without gw1 players, (who funded the game), gw2 shouldnt exist.

You should realize that by buying GW1 you funded and supported the GW1 infrastructure and programming. You may even have had some fun playing GW1 because of those funds being put to use?

GW2 was funded and is supported by those who bought GW2 and gems in the GW2 store, so there actually is no reason at all to hand a single reward to GW1 players. But since ANet wanted to smoothen the complete change of the game, they actually handed out some pretty unique titles and stuff for those returning customers.

Why should any GW1 player ask for more, like more than the 20 points they already got? Could it be greed on their part? Have they stuck too long to the old game and missed a part of the new one, thus felt being left behind? Could it be jealousy?

But maybe it’s just that those who actually feel they have to be rewarded with those points for time spent in another game deem themselves better than those who started playing in this game. Could it be arrogance?

Based on difficulty these should be worth 100pts each, not just a measly 50.

Sure, get 100 Points for GW1 in GW1 but please, GW2 is another game, so it should be worth 0 Points in GW2.

I, too, have played another game before and achieved a lot there, so I think if players get 500 points for playing one other game here, other players that played other games should get 500 points for those games, too.

Just remember: GW2 is not GW1 – they just share a common developer and story background.

GW2 is not GW1! Therefor, NON-GW2 achievements shouldn’t count to the total points. Skins and titles are more than enough to reward GW1 players for their “loyalty”.

100% agree. +1

Those players have been rewarded with unique skins, titles, pets and a small AP bonus – previously 20 points, worth about 2 dailies… Now they did, well, nothing, but were handed up to an additional 480 points (worth almost a month’s dailies).

The achievement points should reflect only those things you achieved in GW2, not GW1 nor any other game you might have played in the past.

As for some people here suggesting, that new players cannot get in the upper leaderboard ranks, yes, that is sadly true, and one part of the problem there might be the points awarded by dailies and monthlies, yet another even more annoying problem is the short-term “Historical” content like Sky Pirates, Dragon Bash, SAB, etc. ANet should bring these historical achievements back in some private instance, so even new people can achieve those points and enjoy the stories.

Thus, I suggest, ANet should do those things:
1) Bring back all “Historical” content in private instances
2) Award 0 AP for HoM
3) Award AP for dailies and monthlies like Hobby Dungeon Explorer, i.e. you can get up to x points, i.e. 500, in those categories and further completions bring laurels, karma, etc. but count for 0 AP.

This way you only get those points everyone can get in GW2 at any time they joined. This way the AP score actually means something like “game completion”.

LOL have fun in another game.

If ANet doesn’t reconsider soon – I will, thank you.

GW1 Players paid and played so we have gw2 as a result from that they deserve to be compenstated for being a loyal and helping fund this great game.

As weird as it sounds: they paid for playing GW1 and funded the GW1 infrastructure.
On the other hand, we all paid for GW2 and fund the GW2 infrastructure. Some people even support this game by buying Gems for real money, thus funding the development and continuation of the current game. And somehow I presume that ANet values current income over past purchases.

they deserve to be compenstated

They are: They have unique titles to show, unique skins to wear and unique pets to accompany them. Why distort the current competition by adding an incredible amount of points?

For a competitive leaderboard only those things you achieved in the current game should be taken into account. Thus if the competition is no longer a question of this game, there is little point continuing.

Leaderboards in this game should only award points for playing this game.

I just put it simple: If the AP gained from another game are not reduced back to their previous annoying, but rather insignificant 20 points (or better reduced to 0), I will go play another game – and none from ANet to be sure at that.

Hi,

Patchday – WvW down, sPvP down, and still there are many Daily Achievments to fulfill (not the daily reward, just the achievments). Why does it have to be such a chore to do your dailies?

Well, Why is there no Meta Daily that holds the Achievement Points (5 max per day), which says to complete any 5 other (PvE, PVP or WvW) achievements? This would make dailies a fun part of the game again and not add a second job to complete this particular daily content (even though it is unplayable because everything is down atm).

I know it’s patchday, and some of the problems today might be a result thereof, but it just adds to the existing problem and this should really be addressed soon – before the next game comes along and people really start leaving…

With almost every update there is more and more lag. Now some skill lags are up to 2-5 seconds. => NOT FUN!

I think, I can rule out my hardware (AMD Bulldozer FX-6100, 8 GB RAM, nVidia GTX-660 Ti, Intel SSD) as well as the connection (32 MBit Cable). So the problem seems software-related and is getting worse… It sometimes takes another 10 seconds for the landscape to fully appear after the long loading screen (i.e. HotM->LA ~20 seconds is rather good those days)

What can I do to minimize this problem, or is it simply up to ANet’s programmers?

Hi…

Canach is the worst instance I have seen in years of MMOs. It’s even worse than the Super Adventure Box, and this was pretty bad already… Oh, and on a side note, there are those “guild missions” that are just impossible to unlock for small guilds (<5-10 active players).
Canach, a single mob that takes damage only by walking into his mines. Great thing that all classes are given the same Mine Detector. That really adds diversity and makes you feel playing your class. On top there are lousy achievements to fulfill inside the instance…

Dont’ get me wrong, on the overall I still enjoy playing the game, but so far, most new “content” just is so bad, that every time I am about to buy gems, I consider this “content” and just come to the conclusion that I must not reward Anet for these “jokes”.

Once there will be real content (meaning, no really annoying but fun to play instances, interesting stories and some at least moderately challenging opponents rather than unappealing environments), I might start to support Anet with money again. Until then, oh well, the old instances and WvW are still available…

Hello,

I’d like to see a subtle change to the dailies and the way they award achievement points.

- Create a Daily Meta Achievement, i.e. with 5 tiers which give 1 achievement point each.
- Completion of any daily category awards the next tier in the Meta.
- All normal daily categories give 0 achievement points.
- Completion of the Daily Meta awards you the daily reward (laurels, etc.)

This way you can actually chose which 5 daily achievements you want to do today, get the daily reward and the maximum achievement points. This way you can go for even some unusual dailies (like maybe escorting 3 Dolyaks) which maybe only a few people would like to participate in.

Also, capturing 10 points = triple the previous daily, meaning you also need 3 people standing at the same capture point…

the new dailies take way too long to complete if you are unlucky – especially the PvP part.

You have to win 2 Tournaments – if lucky 2 games, on average 4 games (you win one, you lose one), if unlucky much, much more…

Before April 30 patch you had only to play 3 (sometimes 4) maps to complete the daily, now this is more than doubled. One match takes 10 minutes on average, so before you had to go for about 30 minutes in PvP, now it is at least an hour, maybe more.

So I suggest to change 2 things in the PvP daily:
1. Unique Maps played: Either 4 unique hotjoins or 4 Tournament maps.
(Or better: make tournaments avaiable for all maps, and not just one at a time. If not enough players register for the same map they could be asked if they want to join in another tournament map)

2. Tournament Matches Won: Now to complete the PvP daily people are forced to play tournaments – even if they are not “ready” for tournaments (the subjective quantity of leavers has increased 200% since before the patch)

Here, please change the requirement to one victory (either tournament or hotjoin).

On the normal Daily, a new task was added: Repairs Supplied.Depending on the time you go into WvW it may be a long time until you get into a structure, where you can apply your repairs. Why was there a 2nd WvW task introduced? Since you could complete about any Daily in WvW alone, I’d suggest you reduce the normal Daily back to 9 tasks, and just alternate the new task into the one WvW only task…

I’d be very happy if you could introduce this in tomorrow’s Dailies already…

So you’re saying you’re going to judge a game based on daily OPTIONS? You only need to do 4 PVe dailies to get the daily rewards. Doing anything above that is simply a choice.

Yes, because they seriously made my option the worst, since I don’t care about daily rewards or laurels but only about the possible achivement points for doing all the daily offers (since those are the only points available per day). Now completing all possible choices becomes a chore rather than playing a fun game – and yes I do have a job so i do not have unlimited time to play GW2 – ergo if they change the game I may have to look for a less time consuming game to play in the future – and take my money with me there.

I an very displeased with the new dailies, too. Until this patch I was aiming to get at least all points from the dailies, but with this new daily structure (2 WvW, 6 sPvP and lots of PvE) I think that GW2 just will take too much time to continue… Oh well, maybe ANet reconsiders this very soon or I will have to reconsider what game to play.

For me it’s 0/4 Unique Maps played after playing several maps (won and lost), as well as 0/2 Daily Tournament Matches Won.

Matches played was full before patch though.

Dynamic Player Cap per Map/Balancing WvW

in WvW

Curuglas.1847

I think a sort of dynamic population balancing should be introduced in WvW. My idea on population balancing would be along these lines:
Any server should be allowed a base number of players in the map, regardless of the other servers; like, say for example, 30 players as a base population.
For more players to be allowed into the map from any given server, the opposing teams would have at least half (better 2/3) of that amount in the map, too. So, if the first server wants to have 40 players on the map, there should be at least 20 (better 27) players from the other teams combined on the map, too. If there are less than those a queue would form for the first server. This queue would only apply to the server with the most players on the given map and only for those joining the map. So if a server has 100 players on the map, and the other teams leave the map, so there are only 20 opponents left, the 100 still may stay in the map, but unless the other servers’ players come back into the map, no new player would be allowed into the map until the dynamic balance quota would be met again.

It may not be a perfect solution, but it allows servers with a low WvW population (sometimes just timezone related differences) maybe not really to compete, but at least to participate with some degree of possible success.

Leavers

Hi,

I think leaving tournaments just because the match might result in a loss, should have consequences for the leaving players.
I think something like being barred from joining sPvP for at least 30 Minutes (maybe cumulative for each leaving?) on their next queue opening and/or losing like up to 50% of their rank progress each time they leave and the team they left loses would be quite appropriate.
Idling in the base should be treated with a reminder after 15 seconds, and if the player is idling for more than a minute it should be treated the same as leaving, if the team loses (due to this).

I know, it may be inconvenient if there was a connection issue, but more often than not the player leaving was just a whiner who can’t stand honorable losses. I myself like to play with a team that at least tries to fight, even if the situation is dire. And it’s simple as that: If you can’t lose, don’t play.

Error 42

Yes, they might acknowledge it here, too. But I doubt a major dropout of players will go unnoticed by someone there. But give them the time to grab a cup of coffee before login in to their login servers, as most admins run on coffee.

And I doubt there will be a rollback, since the game servers most probably are unaffected, if only the login servers went down for some (often tricky to track) reason. So, even though this can be annoying, I will just relax and wait a few minutes, so their admins can go about their job and get the server back running.

Nevertheless, a leeeeettle more information on the customer relations department’s part would not hurt either.

And while I was posting there was a response and a fix, so, good job ANet. Appreciate it.

Arah Path 4 bugged?

Arah Path 4… Dwayna is no damage race, it’s just a hell of a coordination issue.

Sometimes the dungeon events bug, yes. In my experience it happens more often after the NPC was dead before he had to “do something”, while players advanced. Sometimes the NPC seems to stay in fight with skipped mobs, but that may just be coincidence.

Tournament team matchmaking

Curuglas.1847

Hi,

as a suggestion, limit quick free tournaments to a 2 player premade group (one player can only invite one other into his group and the invited one can’t invite anyone else into this group).
If people seriously want to play together in 3-5 premade teams they should go for the paid tournaments.

This way you should have a more balanced team on both sides, instead of the random quick player vs. a full guild squad.

Live botting and no action?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Hi,

I noticed several bots farming (and yes they are bots, because rangers usually do not “teleport” instead of walking and kill mobs on the same path over and over).

Well, since I read Areanet takes botting serious, I tried:
- reporting them ingame.
- writing mails to exploits@arena.net.

Two DAYS after the first report, the bots still keep farming the same path over and over. Seeing this botting go on for days really is devastating.

So how does this correspond with Arenanet taking botting serious and not updating the sticky thread for two months now?

And again, always sPVP, Temple of the silent storm, Loading screen does not end until the end of match (at a score of about 100:100, so it may take a while and the team is one hand short). Since the game works fine in the background, just remove the loading screens and show the game all the time.

FPS Issues [merged]

Curuglas.1847

Hi,

lately I start experiencing some performance issues with the game as well. I am now standing at the Path of Starry Skies Waypoint in the Frostgorge Sound. Here I have 50-60 FPS.
In Lion’s Arch I only had 25-30 FPS.
In the Ascalon Fractal the FPS drop to 9-15.
Opening the map gives around 110 FPS, but zooming in or out now drops to 1-4 FPS.

My configuration is:
- AMD FX-6100
- 8 GB Ram
- nVidia GTX 660 Ti (driver version 306.97)
- Intel SSD
- Win 7 x64

My System should be slightly overpowered for GW2, so I think that even at highest detail I should get some more stable FPS rates. Or what game setting would be the most harmful to performance but the least providing for quality?
