How about allowing other professions to have pets? Not fighting pets, but more like miniatures, except you get them the same way Rangers get pets now.

HoT came with four-attribute ascended gear available (commander, marauder, etc.) There are only nine types with four attributes.

Before I start crafting and/or buying, I would like to make sure that all nine types are available for all gear types: armor, weapons, trinkets, and back items. I’ve looked at the Wiki, and it seems they’re all accounted for. But, I did that back when three-attribute gear was available, and not all of them were available in all four categories of gear.

So, am I reading this correctly: All nine four-attribute ascended pieces are available for all armor, weapon, trinkets (all 3 types) and backpieces?

If any specific items are missing from the matrix, please mention which ones.

Thank you!

2) we all know buying gold is illegal in game for good reason but can you make deals with individual players to buy there in game goods not gold For RL funds , excluding using sites we are talking just normal players.
I know this is verging on the line but I’m curious wetter the line is drawn.
I would love some offical feedback.

By your own description, they didn’t realize this would hurt vets, so it’s not a new possibility; it’s marginally different as the second possibility. In either case, you’re still saying it’s an urgent issue because it hurts vets and I’m still saying that’s moot in determining whether its urgent or not.

I don’t believe I said anything about urgency. The key issue is whether they understand what they’ve done, so they don’t repeat the same mistake. THAT’S why it’s important to talk about it.

And, here’s why completion of masteries matters:

If someone buys the game now, they don’t get LS S3. So, in order to complete all the masteries, they must either complete every single mastery point except adventures, or they must do some adventures to offset the ones they don’t/can’t complete.

Mastery points are the same for HoT whether they come from the expansion maps or the LS3 maps. Considering that you have to max masteries from both to get XP, I don’t see why there needs to be a distinction.

Because the point I was making is that one needs to collect a bunch of adventure MPs to complete HoT.

I agree that they’ve done a good thing by having more MPs available on the LS S3 maps. But, it’s not enough (yet) to offset the mistake made in HoT. (“Mistake” is in my opinion.) Plus, it requires playing through LS S3 in order to complete HoT. That just feels wrong.

I agree completely.

I have a goal to play through all of the storyline missions, so I can see all of the intricacies of the story. I am just amazed at how many of the “random events” scattered over the map actually are tied to pieces of the main storyline.

It’s going to use 30 characters taken through at least level 20 missions (plus 10 through level 50 and 6 all the way to the end). But, it’s giving me a profound respect for what they’ve created, so I think it’s worth it.

My stance on this is not too popular, but here it is anyhow:

Waypointing out of combat should be disallowed (like in dungeons or fractals). Also, dead characters SHOULD count towards scaling (they do not now).

My reasoning is that this is a cooperative game. Players should be reviving defeated players on the “don’t leave a fellow soldier behind” principle. My stance would force players to revive their fallen comrades. However, it may also require some changes to the overall scaling formulas in use.

Idea from another thread (https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Someone-please-explain-finishers/first#post6627459):

Allow finishers to be used on PvE bosses.

If done, consider putting a timing process in place, so that those who use finishers would be queued rather than immediately launching into the animation. This could have a stadium wave effect (although, more like popcorn than a moving wave). This would extend the end of the boss battle by 1/4 second (or whatever you choose) per player who uses a finisher.

Finally, consider (if the above is done) adding some kind of message of victory to rise from the ashes of the boss as the players using finishers run through the process. For this to work, though, you might have to have all players automatically use a finisher at the end of a boss battle. So, you should add a checkbox to opt out.

Oh, and I should clarify: there would have to be a checkbox for players, so they could ignore this timing-change. Some would rather just get on to the loot.

Daddicus.6128

Can you imagine a pve zerg all stomping a champ at the same time? All the finishers…. O.O

That changes nothing. Only the first person to finish actually triggers the finisher.

Oh well. Still, imagine if every completed finisher appeared. The chaos!

Actually, it might be OK, but it would require some coding.

If they changed the finishers usage for boss battles, they could the finisher piece (the last 1/2 second of the animation) be done in order, around the beast’s carcass. Put a 1/4 second delay between each finisher in the theater. That would have a stadium-wave effect, although more of a ping-pong than an actual wave.

If they were really clever, they could have a message of victory rise from the ashes of the boss while the finishers ran through the cycle. That would be a really cool animation. But, it might be expensive to implement. Still, if they did, it would be a first in the industry, and another feather in their cap.

Daddicus.6128

So what would happen if they added an option where you can decide to stop gaining XP for Masteries but for another reward, like Spirit Shards.

I believe whatever that reward is, it would become worthless within a day, simply because everybody would get it. Those who maxed Masteries get it, those who don’t have enough Mastery Points to buy the next line would get it, and everybody who decides to not bother with Masteries anymore would get it.

Whatever that item is, we would have a huge surplus within short time. I believe everybody already has more Spirit Shards than he will ever use, so what’s the point of getting more of them? XP comes plentyful, and therefore, any reward would be diminished.

There are uses for spirit shards. For example, I use a lot of them converting some crafting materials (mats) into next-tier mats.

But, even if there weren’t sinks to use them up, it’s the principle of the thing that’s at issue: why penalize the most loyal players?

Of course it matters to you because you keep bringing it up as a reason why it’s urgent.

Look, there’s two possibilities: they really are as mean-spirited or foolish at business as you think, and they intended to hurt veterans — if that’s so, nothing any of us say is going to get them to realize their mistake.

Or, they tried to offer something to some people sooner rather than nothing to everyone and they made a mistake about how well it would be received. In which case, they’re already on it, and just waiting for the right time to revisit the underlying mechanics so they can get it right.

As a practical matter, I don’t really care which it is — I can’t make the game change any quicker. Spirit shards still drop aplenty, so I’ll keep accumulating with or without unlocking the raid mastery.

You violated the excluded middle fallacy. There are (at least) three possibilities. The third in this case is the one I espoused: They placed the caps intentionally, for reasons unknown, not realizing that they would be penalizing their most loyal players.

There aren’t any hero points in LS 3 either, but I can pretty much guarantee there will be in the expansion. I think it’s likely that adventures would be thought of as expansion content, since they’re already making a map and a story every 2-3 months.

There are more than enough HoT mastery points to skip adventures altogether. There are 185 HoT mastery points available with an excess of 48 mastery points. You can get a max of 30 from adventures.

You are correct. But, only because ANet has a higher ratio of MPs-to-masteries in LS S3. I was speaking of HoT, where there are 120 (+/- 1) MPs available, and 120 MPs you must spend.

So, unless one is capable of getting ALL of the other MPs, what I said is true. But, I was speaking from my own experience, where I have run out of non-adventure MPs I am capable of attaining. So, I am required to collect a bunch of adventure MPs (unless ANet continues to have the ratio be high in LS S3).

It makes no difference whether they intended to penalize anybody. They DID, and that’s what matters.

However, I think it’s abundantly clear that they DID intend to penalize their loyal players, because they haven’t corrected it. They would, like you, couch it in terms that soften the facts, but no matter how you slice it, caps of any kind are a penalty against player loyalty.

With mastery points/collections with adventure objectives its “I like PvE but I don’t like this specific part of PvE.” It’s basically cherry picking. Combined with what you get from doing them it’s very much a handful of skins and a handful of mastery points that you don’t really need.

Try doing the math instead of making false statements. The mastery points for at least some adventures are absolutely required in order to maximize masteries.

These are mastery points that you earn and then get allocated to masteries. If they were removed from adventures then they’d have to be placed elsewhere along with something to replace them. All of this would then have to be tested. Much different than what does and doesn’t count.

Just because they have changed things in this game, doesn’t mean everything can likely get changed.

Adventures are solo, but most occur in a group space. Which makes them harder to do when other people are around. Heads and bodies blocking Shooting Gallery or Salvage Pit becoming a literal field of green death.

That’s mostly true, but there are exceptions. Any adventure that has things that can shoot at you means that the other guy might have aggro, leaving you alone.

ANet’s decision was to make Spirit Shards available as random drops instead.

And later, once they realized the terrible mistake they had made, they returned the rewards to “leveling” after level 80.

Now they have made the same mistake again. They don’t really understand the root problem: a game should not penalize its most loyal fans.

So again, the OP misunderstood — ANet didn’t build in a reward designed for the 10-20% who raid; they tried to fix an issue perceived by everyone and tried to do without redesigning the system from the ground up. It’s an accident, not intentional design.

I think you are dead on with this. But, I also think they don’t realize what they really did.

IMO, it’s easier to understand phrased as “penalizing the most loyal players”. Phrased that way (which is identical, but focuses on the root problem) makes it a lot more clear.

Their attitude runs throughout the game; it’s not just Spirit Shards/XP. They have a cap on all repeatable achievements, for example. They should use diminishing returns, not caps.

While true they removed the spirit shards you got for levelling when they introduced Masteries and then reintroduced them for those who had maxed their Masteries. It is not OK, IMO, to remove something everyone had access to and then to give it back only to the “1%”.

They either a) should not have done that or b) introduced a selectable mastery track that allowed everyone to choose whether or not to get Mastery XP or put that XP towards Spirit Shards.

I completely agree.

Unlock Raid Mastery Please.

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Daddicus.6128

Daddicus.6128

Except that they didn’t “build something for the 1%”. The original design was that no one got anything for XP after reaching max specializations (pre-HoT) or max-masteries (at HoT launch). Due to complaints, they offered the very least reward possible: spirit shards, which people get from all sorts of sources already.

It happened that they had linked raid masteries to HoT masteries (because it didn’t originally matter in the least), and so they were in a situation in which they would have had to overhaul the system to leave raid masteries out of the updated system. This way, they could deliver this nearly-negligible reward sooner, rather than “sometime”.

So sure, they should allow non-raiders access to more spirit shards. But I think they are right to treat this as a long-term goal rather than an urgent issue.

Actually, we were rewards Skill Points, which were effectively a currency.

I agree that it’s a longer-term thing. But, they need to acknowledge it, because I fear they haven’t really understood the problem, or they think their inside-knowledge gives more weight to the current status quo.

But, penalizing your most loyal players is never a good thing.

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Daddicus.6128

Earning spirit shards after maxing masteries wasn’t originally a thing, so in this case, it’s more like they added it because it was the only the 1%. Raid masteries are locked for the same reason; to further incentivize raiding.

The key isn’t WHAT the reward was, but that we were rewarded SOMETHING when gaining XP beyond max level.

Now that the first set of raids is finished, the locks have lost most of their purpose and could be removed whenever they wanted. In a few months however, the next expansion will take over and it’s not going to matter either way.

True. But, the locks should be removed completely and immediately, and a practice instituted going forward that they will never do such a thing again. There is simply no excuse for not rewarding players for playing. They need to acknowledge that they have learned this lesson.

I’m not sure they have. I suspect at the next expansion, they’ll do something that amounts to the same thing, because they don’t realize how wrong-headed they were. They seem to think that caps on their most loyal players are a good thing.

Well, that would depend on how exactly they made the leather farm work, I suppose. I think it would have had better results if, instead, the Centaur boss at the top of the Watchtower was changed to a sort of world boss-style encounter. Each day, you receive an item similar to the Hero chests from the HoT metas from which you can pick a “Large Bundle of X Leather” of the tier you need. The random centaurs you kill going up the slopes still drop their Bloodwarped Hides, but this way, they are no longer the primary source of the leather you require.

@Wanze: I suppose if you vastly increased the supply of Thick Leather, you could then transmute it to Hardened Leather through the Forge, so yes, I guess you’re right.

Agreed. There are many ways they could make this work, but nearly all of them could have unforeseen consequences.

Exactly. It is as if the US federal reserve changed interest rates by 10% (usually it goes up or down by like 1/2 a percent), increased the monetary supply by a factor of 2, oh, and immediately closed our borders to all imports and exports (including pending offshore payments) with no warning. Then sat on the situation for a couple decades without further changes. No matter what eventually happened the end result would be a fiscal nightmare scenario. Why anet thought a good idea was to do multiple things at the same time then watch the chaos ….. when clearly they can react faster if players are benefiting ….. is pure huh.

Your analysis is good, but your example is a bit overboard.

The root problem is called “latent demand”. It’s the demand for a product that can’t be measured because of other constraints. Leather was being held down artificially by the high price of cloth. They tried to fix that by raising the price of leather. It worked, but had the consequence of raising the availability of cloth (for the same money pool).

The moves they made were all reasonable. But, they needed to take it in phases, so as to adjust to the power of the price of leather in small increments.

They can still recover, but not by most of the methods in this thread. What they need to do is very slowly lower the demand for leather. I would recommend changing the number of leather required for patches from 10 to 9, then guage the results over a 3 to 6-month period.

What SHOULD happen is that the price of cloth will go up slightly and the price of leather will come down slightly. If it’s not enough, after 3-6 months they should decrease the requirement again.

NOTE: Raising the cloth requirements would have a similar effect. However, because latent demand is unpredictable, the effect on leather would most likely be less than desired (and the price of cloth greater than desired).

They could also slightly raise the drop rate of the various leather-producing salvage items. But, to maintain the overall economy, they would need to lower the drop rates for everything else by a tiny fraction to compensate.

Consumable finishers seem totally useless in PvE except fighting against the leftover stuff from LS S1 in a handful of locations.

Also, how on earth do you use them in WvW or PvP? They only work on players, and if you take the time to dig one up, you risk the player reviving himself, or someone else on your team beating you to it.

If ALL mastery tracks are beyond your ability, then you’re right: the XP is and always will be useless. And, one major aspect of most boosters and crafted consumables are also useless (XP boosts). It boggles the mind trying to understand why ANet doesn’t fix this problem. They should just give us a toggle to stop progressing masteries, and let us choose to return to XP=spirit shards at OUR choice, not theirs.

However, you can progress more than one mastery to the top. Once you get to max in the current mastery in a track, switch to another mastery. That way, if you ever do get more mastery points, you have some options to choose from. Small consolation, but it’s something (if you haven’t already thought of it on your own).

This! In fact, there’s simply no excuse for leaving it the way it is. You don’t build something for the 1%, and then lock the other 99% out of rewards simply because they choose not to raid.

It wouldn’t be so bad if only the HoT zones were the only ones locked out. That would be just one bad idea stacked onto ten other bad ideas. But, all LS3 zones are also locked out, and that’s not acceptable.

This didn’t make me like adventures. I never play them again after the required collection item or mastery point was obtained.
After I tried my first adventure, Bugs in the Branches, I knew that this was not a game mode I would like. More tries were not required to find that out.

My feelings changed from dislike to hate only after I found out I was required to make adventures for mastery points and certain collections. Before, it was just a game mode I disliked – like pvp, for example, which I don’t play either, but I don’t hate pvp, because it isn’t forced upon me like the adventures.

This is my story, too.

However, I went one small step further: I tried most other adventures that I came across. If I thought I could get good enough to eke out a silver, I slogged my way through it.

But, those are rare. The adventures obviously don’t cater to older gamers. I was a pinball wizard in my teens, but that was almost five decades ago. Most of the adventures are way beyond my physical capabilities these days. And, they’re definitely not fun when you’re forced to do them.

When I, a person who doesn’t like playing WvW, am forced to due to requirements like Gift of Battle, I tend to take a path of least resistance. I do one or two of the dailies, and maybe capture a camp or something.

When I’m done, I wait. I may have spent 5-10 minutes accumulating points on the Gift of Battle track. But, at the end, I have to stand around for up to 15 minutes wasting a slot that somebody else (who may actually like WvW) may need (if the map is full or nearly full).

How about giving us a button that will immediately exit us from WvW, and give us the points from the next three 5-minute cycles?

Then, prevent that account from returning to WvW for 4 cycles (to prevent any timing exploits that this idea might create).

Please, stop abusing the farm options.

If there was somewhere else that allows engineers to semi-AFK with the same return as Lake Doric had, they’d be farming there.

That’s true, but they are onesy-twosey. So, it’s easy to tell if they’re botting or not. In fact, I reported two today in Bitterfrost. Any toon that keeps shooting after all the enemies are dead is a possible bot. If they keep it up for more than a few seconds, and change keys, they’re definitely botting.

Please, stop abusing the farm options.

There are three changes responsible for the disparity. Reverting (or balancing, in the case of patch formula) just one of them will not bring back the previous situation, but it may make the gap between those two types of mats become smaller.

Agreed. And, they don’t even have to revert it completely. Just change the requirements a little downward.

And, maybe, upward for cloth? Not sure about that. It depends on whether the overall game economy is actually suffering as a result of leather’s prices. I’m guessing there is a minor effect, but maybe it’s bigger?
