Funny, back stab only hits my engineer for 3k. look at post above.
Oh please… stop embarrassing yourself – you haven’t discovered some secret nobody else knows about – you ran into the world’s most incompetent Thief -_-
How about this, I timed my abilities to minimize the damage of the thieves backstab combo so it would not kill me.
Such a hard to understand concept, the man can actually prevent damage if he uses the right abilities quickly or builds himself around doing it.
I guess doing such a thing is completely impossible!
Oh never mind, I guess I was just fighting an incompetent thief.
https://twitter.com/TalathionEQ2
Thieves have no right to call anyone noobs.
Thieves are playing to most noob friendly crutch class, the same as every stealth class. The fact that thieves have nothing to say but, “L2P, its so easy, all you gotta do is this,” just proves that they are mostly played by pretentious, teenage children.
If you play a thief you are a noob, not to be mean but when I see you in WvW I will use my Engineer to smack you in the face, CC you in place, then AoE your chicken kitten till you die or more likely run away crying mashing your refuge button. Then you can cut that bit out of the video you will post of all your upleveled afk ganks with some shetty heavy metal song blarring in the background.
Thief is actually a very skill heavy class, with passive offensive skills, and very active defensive skills.

… Why would a backstab thief have anything besides assassin’s signet, signet of shadows, shadowstep on his hotbar? why does he need quickness?
(at above…)
The guy in question just got mugged and lost almost all his HP, why is he not dodging, he knows your killing him, you act as though you can just heartseeker your way down, is he not doing everything he can to get away?
Please make a video of your character getting instantly killed by a thief, I would also like to see his traits and such

Follow that directly, you will be a TANK that can put the pain on any thief you come across, flamethrower is the thieves WORSE nightmare? hes stealthed but thieves are ALWAYS in melee range, so if he stealths just flame and run in circles until your combat log hits something.
Your almost dead? Switch to heal kit, heal for full, repeat, he will eventually have to run away.

In that build backstab only hits me for 3578!
If those traits are broken, then why don’t you complain about your class being crappy and not thief being overpowered?
4k? What a from a level 20 thief?
Taking from a 9K base where do you see 50% damage reduction? You didn’t even pick up +toughness for the shield.
You are lying.Because even if they worked they wouldn’t be that good.
He was a backstab thief in SPVP, he hit me for very little.

I posted this on the “Thief Feedback” forum. At the risk of redundancy…
What’s up with Thieve’s weapon choices, or rather, lack thereof…
For me, the Thief’s biggest issue is weapon viability. Overall, it is 90% dagger/dagger. I would like to see the sword reworked to be a bit more effective, and have a benefit when used from stealth.
Also, using a sword in the offhand would be nifty too.
PS: Anyone use sword in a viable and fun build?
I use sword and pistol still, because nobody else does. LOL.

Yeah, it would be great to see some Thief playstyles other than “LOL INSTAGIB” get buffed. P/P was really fun, but overpowered, in some of the BWE. They probably hit the damage to hard, but it was fun to by a mid range skirmisher.
That is a cute list of bugs though. You should see the ones in the Ranger, Engineer or Necro forums. Necros even devised a tracking and naming system. Engineers cracked 100 a while ago.
“LOL INSTAGIB” only happens when people build glass cannons in low-mobility classes like Ranger, Warrior, Guardian, and Necro. If people stack toughness (for instance, all Warriors should be using Knight’s Armor and/or emerald trinkets in WvW), then glass cannon thieves like myself can be in trouble.
Elementalists and Mesmers are only in trouble if they sit still and don’t know how to play against thieves. No matter what their build, Elementalists have plenty of defensive, offensive, CC, and gap-control abilities to work with. If an Ele loses against a thief, then he’s not using his skills and attunements well enough (that goes double for D/D eles, who should have an ADVANTAGE over a standard thief). If a Mesmer loses against a thief, it’s because he wasn’t using his illusions like blood hounds, and using his CC and gap-control abilities like they should.
For Engineer…. well, unless you’re a TANKCAT engie, you’re pretty much screwed. Engies need a serious buff. It’s why my engie hasn’t even gotten past lvl 11 thus far (I’ve not put any time into it).
I play a Bunker Engineer. ~25K Health, ~3k Armor. A ton of toughness. High levels of protection uptime.
I can be nigh-instagibbed by a good Thief.
That is the problem. “LOL INSTAGIB” even works through defensive specs.
That seems impossible, I need a video with your stats up. (trait choices as well.)
I’ve been reading some of these things. 50% movement speed in stealth is capped at 33%, so you gain nothing if you have swiftness and you gain 8% if you use signet of shadows. Do you play this class?
Stealing 20 stacks of might? you can only steal one stack from someone with bountiful theft. Do you play this class?
Engineers are amazingly tanky, they should not die that easilly, especially to an instagib thief, infact with there traits, it should be impossible to instagib them, if they go under a certain amount of HP, they gain 4-5 seconds of invulnerability. Don’t you play the class?
There is a counter to stealth, its called: think like a thief does, why don’t you try playing a thief and figure out how the class works, I did that and now I have no problem with them on my warrior.
I’m getting tired of trying to defend my class when people just come in and sprout nonsense that isn’t true, and don’t bother to test anything.

20K damage combo, through protection full bunker Engineer.Thats not evidence. Those are some numbers on the screen.Even if it they were to be true ,which we can’t know, doesn’t mean anything.
You heard it here first kids:
“Facts aren’t evidence”.
Well, better than the standard “facts don’t matter”.
Denial isn’t a river in Egypt.
That was only 14k damage, looking like you were being attacked by other people, how do you know the thief wasn’t getting buffed by anyone, how do we know you had protection, how do we know you didn’t have 10 stacks of vulnerability?
To be honest, you ate 9k damage, thats average for a GLASS cannon, without protection.
Average hit for a Non-glass cannon with protection is 4-6k, with d/d eles I usually hit them for 4.7k MAX, which is rediculous.
Are you unable to do simple math or just not paying attention?
4529+ 5137 + 9843 = 19509Can we at least agree on that?
Either one speaks volumes about you.
Oh no, I missed one, yep your right you got hit for 19k.
What jewelry/armor do you use?
What are your traits?
Perhaps I can help your engineer beat thieves.
https://twitter.com/TalathionEQ2
Simply put, the dual-dagger thief has far too much DPS. It is the only profession capable of dealing 5000+ damage per attack in rapid succession. Wild Strike + Cloak and Dagger + Backstab == dead in 2 seconds. This is not balanced even if the build is considered a glass canon for the simple reason that thiefs get stealth so their toughness doesn’t really matter when they can kill so fast.
You’ve obviously never fought a warrior, have you?
https://twitter.com/TalathionEQ2
it has a 0.7 second duration.
https://twitter.com/TalathionEQ2
yea warrior has one shot to get you downed in seconds if that combo is interupted or miss then they are sitting ducks especiall glass cannon warriors i run S/D set up for my thief just use infiltrators strike and auto attack them to death its pretty funny.
Ye , siting ducks on top of a tower, 1500 range , so dangerous..
Adrenaline to extreme.
3 ways to get adrenaline to full, can fire kill shot every 8 seconds, 1500 almost twice the range of pistols, freakin amazing!
Also, kill shot is the same damage as backstab (11 more damage to be precise!) when you fully spec into it!
https://twitter.com/TalathionEQ2
Please change the Radius of the combo field to 240.
Its not very big, and anyone can just avoid it by stepping off one meter to the side, its very weak and doesn’t really help in pvp because its so small, and in pve the mob can move 20 meters and be out of it, its radius is pathetic.
https://twitter.com/TalathionEQ2
Thieves have the worst survivability, and are fourth on mobility.
What thieves do have however is stealth, which is an advantage.
Funny comment. Thieves have the worst survivabililty? Ridiculous. Whats about their stealth, shadowstep, blinding powder, shortbow 5 …
I played a thief for a few days now and its absolutly easy to jump in the fight – kill 1 or to guys and if your health gets low .. baam – out of fight and no chance for the enemy to catch you.
Survivability is the ability to take damage and live through it.
Shadowstep, Short bow 5 are mobility.
Blinding Powder is a one shot block, nobody in pvp is going to stand in the blinding field. This is mostly a pve move.
Stealth is not survivability, its pure deception, you can’t see me, doesn’t mean I won’t die to a random AOE if you hit me with it.

Charr can wear Ascalon dungeon armor, which is what there ancestors wore, then go around ruins where people visit and dance on the human’s graves.
Humans can wear Flame Legion Armor and dance around Black Citadel, laughing and nothing happens.
Humans can wear Twilight Arbor (sylvari) Armor and dance around the grove laughing, and nothing happens.

How is this racist when the idea now is to encourage people to play other races? you should look up the definition of racist.

Because the human can’t wear Asuran clothes? It doesn’t make much sense for a race to wear clothes made for another race

Smokescreen and shadow refugee are nice in dungeons.
Granted I’ve only ran dungeons on my mesmer, and not many of them. Blocking projectiles and blinding enemies is always nice.![]()
Shadow refugee has been explained enough I guess.Besides those two Shadow Step is nice to de-activate traps in AC. And it’s also nice to get past traps of course.
Needle trap for a bit of CC, along with devourer venom.
Thrill of the Crime – Trickery V – Fury, might and swiftness for 10 seconds for all allies when you steal
Bountiful theft – Trickery VII – 15 seconds of vigor for nearby allies on steal + 2 boons are ripped from the target and given to allies )image that on the jellyfish boss in fractals who gains like 20 stacks of might)
Just my 2cts
If the enemy has 20 stacks, you only steal 1 stack, so its pointless to steal might.
Stealth is ignored by most NPCs, if you stealth they will just go right where you are stealthed and stare at you till it goes away.
Shadow Refuge is ok, but 1000 healing is worthless in dungeons, thats basicly one shout heal from a warrior and thats 1/10th of what one healing banner could do, and Rangers and most classes can give everyone regeneration, and protection.
Thief is horrible in dungeons compared to other classes, even rangers.

Not funny! Really not funny
https://twitter.com/TalathionEQ2
Should I wait and put the dreamer on my non existent Ranger then?
Rangers are excellent in dungeons.
Healing Spring Alone can bring the entire group 30-40 seconds of regeneration.
https://twitter.com/TalathionEQ2
Thief is not an overpowered class in spvp or wvwvw, in fact its weaker then most classes in sustained damage and group utility.
Thieves have two things going for them, high damage in a short amount of time and the ability to escape almost any situation.
Nerf this, and you need to give us more of the above, there are barely any thiefs who use anything else besides “Shadowstep/Signet of Shadows.” because we have access to little to no boons.
https://twitter.com/TalathionEQ2
I really enjoy my thief and am almost done with my legendary short bow. Most of the dungeons I do have been on my guardian though. What does a Thief offer to the table that my guardian or Warrior doesn’t when it comes to dungeons?
I would assume higher DPS plus group stealth.
How much more damage should I be looking to do? Are their any builds that are specificly great in dungeons? Are their any builds that are good for Dungeons AND wvw?
Thoughts?
Guardians have higher sustained DPS but poorer burst, and Warriors have higher sustained dps and burst.
They both have higher survivability then thief, and also both bring more to the table.
However, the thief can run away from the group faster if kittenf.
https://twitter.com/TalathionEQ2
Body shot should apply burning, not vulnerability.
https://twitter.com/TalathionEQ2
Honestly, I just wish it would give us a 30 second boon, depending on the class you stole from.

He’s not contesting the point, he’s not killing anyone, he’s removing himself from the game…and you think the mechanic is broken and needs to be redesigned? Um……………………………………….wat………………….
Well if your completely ok with “removing ones self from the equation” , then perhaps he should just uninstall and it will be the exact same effect correct? Because if your purpose is not to play the game the way it was designed then you simply should not be playing. This is a perfect example of what the designers did not intend to do with their ideas. Although funny to watch, this spec brings nothing to the table, other than comic relief in which I literally said in the video I posted. You might as well be a observing from afar rather than actually playing the game.
I think hes helping the enemy more then the team, why does this need nerfed?

Thief takes 50% less damage when revealed.

Um, in the city they last forever, one person can make 100s of them…
They are still out too, its been 2 days…
https://twitter.com/TalathionEQ2
If a thief makes a mistake, depending on what kind of thief he is, he usually has to run away.
This, exactly. That is the point I am making. The comment you made about thieves punishing others for mistakes essentially equates to the thief killing that person. Where as, if the thief makes a mistake, it’s inherent mobility allows it to have an ace up its sleeve to get out of dodge if need be.
To go into it further, that isn’t even my issue with the class. I actually think that aspect of it IS what makes it an interesting class. My issue, and I’m sure many other peoples issue, is the stealth invincibility (extreme word, general idea). One person should not be able to dance around taking jabs at many, many time their numbers because they cannot be seen.
I myself know well enough to just keep going where I’m going when a stealth-troll pokes me. Why? because I know they can’t kill me, and I can’t kill them. However, some people are a lot softer than I, and can be killed by said stealth-troll. I am giving giving my protest of a former thief of how, I too, think it’s mildly ridiculous to be able to do what many thieves are capable of doing via stealth.
If you are unable to see what a near epidemic of stealth thieves there are on the WvW fields; I think that says less about me and more about you.
Actually thats 50/50, punishing them means killing or making them run back to there zerg, or making them run away, other classes can run away as well, not just thief.
Some times a thief can start punishing someone, but then get side tracked and get pobbled by aoes and down himself.
I will say this though, no class besides the thief in this game, can punish your allies and use them against you like a thief can, and that is why I love this class.
https://twitter.com/TalathionEQ2
I agree that they need to have a timer in the city. I would even be okay with 10 minutes, but how it is now.
Yeah, they are just going around ruining things… :/
https://twitter.com/TalathionEQ2
If a thief makes a mistake, depending on what kind of thief he is, he usually has to run away.
Since the thief uses the initiative system instead of a cool down system, if he misses an attack, that puts him majorly behind in the fight.
If a Thief misses a Cloak and Dagger, it usually means a lot of bad things for the thief, because he never went into stealth, this means hes visible and vulnerable, thieves are the squishiest class in the game, so vulnerability is extremely harsh.
I awnser this completely and honestly, but it also depends on what hes fighting as well.
If your fighting a D/D Elementalist, they are much faster then you, if you try and run, so running from them without using a stealth utility is almost impossible.
Edit:
I would like to add that Thief is a very “active” defense and “passive” attack class, every time we do something defensive, we must be very active, watching our revealed buffs and making sure we don’t make mistakes, but our damage comes “passively.” because of initiative.
Classes like Guardian and Elementalist are more passive defense, and “active” attack, meaning they have to work for there damage, but they already have powerful innate defenses.

(edited by Daecollo.9578)
Thieves feed off bad players, the more bad players you have on your team, the harder a thief is to kill.
Thieves get stronger every time you make a mistake, every time your team makes a mistake it punishes everyone else.
Thieves are hated because we teach people how to play the game by punishing them for being bad and making mistakes, that is why we have 100 threads about nerfing us.
Actually, I think thieves are hated because most share this mindset. If you were to step off your pedestal for a minute, you may see why the class is a bit over the top. I know I had to, and it wasn’t easy.
Furthermore, what happens when the thief makes a mistake? Is it punished? No, it goes stealth, backs up/shadow-steps, regens, and tries again. Can you honestly say that is the epitome of balance?
Your speaking of 1v1 imbalance, this is a group game.
You did not lose the fight, so who cares if the thief got away, you mean to say that you should win?
I read your posts, you played a guardian, and gave examples of what a guardian can’t do.
A thief however, can’t go into a zerg, protect all his allies and give powerful boons to them all, switch to an elite and heal an entire zerg of players, and then put on group protection and regeneration, and turn a losing fight into a winning one, while a guardian can.
A Thief can’t put on a greatsword and pull an entire enemy team into all his allies aoes and destroy them all with coordination, a guardian can.
A Thief cannot zone in the middle of a battle, rez an allie and put on stability and protect and help someone up while being hammered on while aoes, a guardian can.
a Thief cannot go into PvE, take on multiple enemies at once, tank them all, and then come out unphased while protecting his team and healing them and granting everyone boons, a Guardian can.
Sorry, but thieves specialize in mobility, if you can’t catch him, so? If this is WvWvW you have other objectives, one thief isn’t going to prevent a zerg from getting a keep. If this is Spvp you still have the point you were protecting or gaining, he ran away so now your team has that point.

Countless is a very good player, I’ve run into him before and so if he’s saying it is a little over the top to be stealthed that much for that long, well I would listen. That said, I too feel that stealth is a little out of control, I too play a mesmer and know that my current build would suffer for a slight nerf to stealth and yet I would STILL like them to nerf it slightly. Not so much it’s duration or breaking instantly, but instead a shimmer on me, or at least numbers popping up when I’m hit with AoE, that would be fine. To compensate they could give a small damge reduction trait while in stealth to allow for being tracked while in stealth, the effect doesn’t completely change and the visual distortion remains for larger scale fights, but doesn’t allow me to remain stealthed to just avoid being detected at all.
Balancing it isn’t as hard as it might seem, just a matter of whether it’s intended to work the way it is currently, which is that when in stealth you cannot be seen at all, nor numbers or anything else to let the opponent know where you “might” be at. (you can still see you’ve been hit while in stealth and dodge roll to avoid them hitting you with their next AoE, juking and still remaining in stealth at that point) Juking isn’t rewarded in the game as much with so many target lock abilities, more skill shots, less target locked abilities. The stronger the ability the less likely it should be target locked, all stuns should be that way; knockdowns, knockbacks, pulls, immobilizes, as well. Blind and cripple are minor effects and not nearly as powerful in PvP as the above and so are fine to be target locked abilities.
TL;DR “It’s not a L2P issue here, he knows what his options are and how to beat it if he really tried, but it’s just funny and sad in it’s current form. Counterplay > L2P imo.”
He looks like a pretty terrible player to me, he just complained and he has no idea what his enemies doing. “Lol enjoy your ban!”. When any good player knows exactly what CnD is.
He wasn’t dodging, he wasn’t doing anything but letting the thief HIT him over and over, he wasn’t aggressive, in fact hes a joke as a player, because he ran into something he couldn’t beat and gave up.
I hope I never have him on my team.
It might as well have been 2 vs 1, because he was helping the enemy by being bad more so then helping his team, thieves feed on bads the more bads you have on your team, the stronger the thief is.
slow down bro. he’s didnt lose, he wasnt being aggressive on purpose, he was showing how dumb it is that a thief can maintain that much stealth uptime. The mechanic is clearly broken that what is shown in the video is even possible thanks to horrible culling and re-stealth-ability
The Thief can’t do that if you prevent CnD…
YOU need to prevent CnD, its a VERY low range melee attack, it happens every 4-5 seconds, its VERY easy to prevent, DON’T let it hit you and you win.
not the point, the point is culling + using mechanics to avoid revealed debuff = broken.
doesnt matter if it’s easy to avoid, point is it’s possible and shouldn’t be.
Its not broken, the player was visible for the 0.6 seconds he wasn’t in stealth, if you watched the video you would see him in very plain sight, he just stealthed again and again.
SPvP doesn’t have culling issues like wvwvw, and hes not “avoiding the reveal debuff.” he never recieved it in the first place.
Let me tell you whats happening.
He hits you with cloak and dagger.
1. You get damaged for very little.
2. He goes into stealth.
3. he waits for stealth to go away.
4. he immediately uses cloak and dagger again.
Hes not attacking you while stealthed, so hes never getting the revealed buff.
Why shouldn’t it be possible? Cloak and Dagger does not do enough damage to kill anything with it, even if you hit the target over and over with it, your healing spell will out heal the damage of the attack, and you have to be standing still like an idiot to be hit by cloak and dagger in the first place.

People are going around citys using hundreds of these in taverns/places of roleplay and destroying roleplay.
You go into a bar and see 100s of animals, they don’t go away in citys.
Please make them have a 5 minute timer in citys as well.

Necro, put marks under your feet, every time he gets into melee he gets hit by them.
Necro, put wells under your feet, you can turn all your bleeds/cripples into BUFFs, 30 seconds of regeneration, woo!
