The actual combat content of that last patch was terrible all-around.

I’ll admit that I did have some fun in LA, but it was mostly from fighting tons of adds during the Miasma events. However, the achievement check list really made the rest of the event pretty miserable.

I really hope ArenaNet considers making more content instanced for stuff like this in the future, especially if they want to put in any group coordination-based achievement.

Failing an achievement because you’re surrounded by people who aren’t as committed to the same goal as you just isn’t fun.

At least in dungeons/raids, you can get a group of like-minded people to accomplish something truly heroic. (hint hint, add a raid-like encounter)

One of the biggest things I like about GW2 is the fluid combat and the art style.

I would absolutely hate going over to another game and notice that in order for my skill to go off, I have to be rooted in place.

You can roll a ranger and equip 1H sword if you really want the nostalgia of being rooted.

Or you can click off auto-attack and micromanage the skill chain, where it’s not quite so bad.

Even with this duct-tape-esque work-around, it’s still a terrible mechanic that makes something as basic as an auto-attack painfully annoying.

@ OP: Yea, GW2 has plenty of flaws, but despite those, I still honestly think that this is the best MMO available.

Yea, this is pretty much the case. I made the mistake of actually trying on a lot of fights and as a result am still several achievements to get the meta on the last day.

The cut scene/story from this patch was cool, but the actual gameplay changes have left a pretty bitter taste in my mouth.

I’ve never seen this bug, but I have noticed that if a teammate turns the treb before the game starts, it stays in that position when the game starts as well.

This is kind of a minor thing, but it does make a difference since you can get on the treb and hit #2 right away to take off the clock tower’s roof with the default position, but if a teammate moves it, you have to spend time moving the treb back to a decent position.

Guardian has been riding the magic line between good and OP for a long time, but seems to be completely under the radar of everyone. I mean, having at least 1 Guard is the staple of so many PvP teams. Guards are probably the best bunker in the entire game and have been almost since the start (well, except for before eles were nerfed). Guards also do DPS on par with warriors, while bringing some of the best support to a group.

First of all, make sure it’s not your connection that’s the issue. You can do this by running a Traceroute (instructions on that here: https://help.guildwars2.com/entries/27698133-Connectivity). If that’s not your issue, check out the steps I outlined in my post here:

I can’t use this build correctly without this information!

For D/D, you just Cloak and Dagger then Backstab. Try to keep at least 6 initiative for the bonus from the 25 point trait. When the enemy gets below 33% HP, start using your initiative on Heartseeker instead.

For S/P, just keep the blind field down and auto-attack against mobs that hit hard. If the mobs don’t hit hard enough to justify a blind field, then just burn your initiative on Pistol Whip.

I think that if we had a solo Q-like mode that was larger, there would be more room for team tactics. One of the main reasons that team tactics are so sparse in games where everyone’s not on a voice chat is because the nodes are so close.

For example: look at Arathi Basin in WoW compared to GW2 games. Since there was more time between players reaching points, there were a lot more call outs for incomings. This does happen in GW2 to some degree, but half the time you call an incoming in text chat, it’s already too late to make much of a difference.

Tl;dr Consider adding a solo q game with a larger map and larger group size to have more team coordination in chat.

I don’t think this would be as frustrating if they at least stopped rewarding these things. I honestly tried to start using up my boosters (which I was saving for times when I would be doing a straight full hour of PvP at a time).

Trying to burn through these boosters has been at best 2 steps forward, 1 step back.

For the past few weeks, I’ve been experiencing random lag (skill lag where everyone else moves around normally) that at times DCs me. My partner plays on a computer right next to me, which is connected to the same router I use and we both connect using a cable (not wireless).

I have tried the following things to try to fix or find the cause of the issue:

- I have used the cmd.exe to ping my router and get almost 0 packet loss. I ran this while I encountered skill lag and still saw 0 packet loss.
– I have run a speed test at testmy.net and it returned normal results.
– I have replaced the cable from the router to my modem.
– I have swapped out my video card.
– I have ran an anti-virus check (all clear).
– I have checked for outdated drivers. One video driver was outdated, but the issue has persisted since updating it.

Any insight or assistance is greatly appreciated!

You would lose out on the dodge if it were reversed. Unless the first skill remained relatively permanent. I.e., you leap in, then you have 30 seconds to leap out.

I prefer it the way it is.

The 1/2 cast of the skill reduces the effective use of that skill as evasion anyways. Besides, there’s already a defensive evade on Serpent’s Strike. At least if you put Monarch Leap first, the ranger would have some decent mobility for roaming in sPvP. =P

Why I feel sPvP lacks player skill

in PvP

Posted by: Dahkeus.8243

Dahkeus.8243

I don’t think that completely overhauling gameplay mechanics is the way to address the issues that the OP is pointing out.

I do agree that there is very little emphasis on positioning, but that’s because 1) Conquest encourages everyone to just pile on a point and keep it contested and 2) there are so few viable ranged specs that there’s seldom any reason to line of sight someone or use elevation to your advantage. However, I think addressing issue 1 also addresses issue 2 to some degree.

Regarding the ‘Overview’:
I agree this is a problem and I agree that over-the-top skill effects have a lot to do with this, but I this is really something that affects PvE more than PvP.

Regarding AoE:
AoE is problematic, but this again stems from a gameplay system that clumps people together too much. When everyone is forced to fight on a small node, AoE becomes incredibly effective as you can just drop it in the middle and the enemy either has to eat your damage or leave the node uncontested.

My suggestions:
1) Give more game types and/or objectives that don’t require sitting on a point.
2) Increase the radius of all capture nodes so that they are the same size as the mid point in Legacy of the Foefire.

These changes would make a larger variety of builds viable, would diversify gameplay strategies, and would lessen the reward of builds that can thoughtlessly drop AoE abilities.

Dahkeus.8243

The max-DPS build that will contribute the most to a solid group doing speed runs is this. However, your mileage may vary if you have a less organized group since rangers tend to either do low DPS when ranged or high DPS while melee with little defense and a primary attack that hinders your dodging ability.

What is the best way to remove conditions

in Ranger

Posted by: Dahkeus.8243

Dahkeus.8243

-40% condition duration buff food can help a little

10 sec you have the best condition removal in the game (Healing Spring – even works on AOEs which reapply conditions). The next 20 sec you have the worst.

strongest condition remove is shadows embrace
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Shadow%27s_Embrace

That’s a single condition removal to one person every 3 seconds max. The condition removal from that is more consistent, but if you’re comparing the 10 seconds when Healing Spring is down to 10 seconds when a thief is stealthing as much as possible for this, then Healing Spring still blows is away without requiring a sub-optimal trait investment that’s sub-optimal outside of WvW.

So how do we all rate the end of LS season 1

in Battle for Lion’s Arch - Aftermath

Posted by: Dahkeus.8243

Dahkeus.8243

My rating on the Living Story so far:

Characters – 10/10
ArenaNet has done a great job at giving us interesting characters that are unique and interesting instead of the same generic heroes you usually get in MMOs. I’m not 100% sure how much I like Scarlet, but Taimi, Braham, Rox, Marjory, Kasmeer, Heal-O-Tron, etc. have all been great. The relationships between Braham/Rox and Marjory/Kasmeer were wonderfully done. ArenaNet did a great job of developing these pairs gradually so that the closeness they had at the end felt genuine instead of contrived.

Story – 8/10
Overall, I liked the story. Some parts were definitely stronger than others, but I would say it was good.

Events – 3/10
There was some fun stuff in some of the events, but most of them really got ruined by just becoming massive zergs. This often resulted in the problematic mechanics getting in the way of really being able to pay attention to what is going on. The best stuff in the Living Story events was primarily the instanced stuff. The TA path was great (even though I can’t find much reason to go back there now) and the mechanics of the Marionette fight were great. I just wish they would have made the Marionette fight a large-scale instanced fight instead of an open world thing. If it weren’t for the achievement checklists that I wanted to fill out, I probably would have skipped most of the events altogether. =/

Items – 8/10
I gave this an 8, but I can’t really think of what they could have done better, so maybe it deserves higher. I think a lot of the rewards we received were really unique and fun. While I haven’t been using most of them, this is primarily because they just don’t fit my character’s style, but the items like the gas mask were really cool

Cutscenes – 9/10
There were some truly awesome cutscenes with the Living Story. My favorites were the investigation cutscene with Marjory from Dragon Bash and, of course, the finale cutscene from the Scarlet ending. The only reason this gets a 9 is because most of the other cutscenes outside of these 2 were relatively forgettable.

Thank you for taking the time to reply to the forums like you do. Playing any role of authority on forums like these definitely takes tough skin since you bear the brunt of people who vent their very worst, whether it’s because they’re annoyed at the game, don’t feel the need to act decently when anonymous, are just overloading because they had a bad day, or whatever.

It takes a lot to get up every day and face the kind of stuff people post here and still maintain a positive attitude towards improving the game. I know you probably see a million bitter/cynical criticisms for every acknowledgement of what you do right, but just know that what you do here does make a difference. I really appreciate the work that you and the rest of the ArenaNet team does to keep the community informed and in the loop with things (even if at times I still wish we could know more).

You’re missing 5 points in your GS build, but I assume they would be put in Skirmishing. If that’s the case, then it’s definitely a solid build for PvE. For Fractals runs, that may be one of the better builds to take, except that you will probably want to swap in a ranged weapon as your offhand set for some encounters. In those cases, you could always switch your 20 point investment in Skirmishing for Honed Axes or Quick Draw.

However, I would suggest changing VI in Marks to I.

Give up Henry, it doesn’t matter what you bring up as an argument. Too many ppl on this forum think too one-sided. Mostly because they only look from a one-class-perspective or because they choose to ignore bad skill-design.

“It doesn’t affect the meta” or “I played it and I failed, so it must be underpowered and useless”. If I read such things I have to facepalm myself for stupidity. I hope you realize in 2 months when staff ele gets buffed, that this trait will change to a real threat. Besides that it is just a horrible hardcounter (if it’s played or not doesn’t matter), but it seems like you are not able to think further and in bigger patterns.

Well…it doesn’t affect the meta and it does fail right now.

As for later on when eles get buffed:
1) It depends on what buffs they get. Not all buffs will suddenly make 30 in the earth tree viable.
2) We have no idea whether they will nerf Diamond Skin at the same time, but the point has already been argued to death that it’s a badly designed trait. If ANet doesn’t get that by now, then dragging this argument out all over again now and beating on the same tired arguments won’t change anything.

When they start talking about what ele buffs are coming and whether diamond skin will change, there will be something worth talking about here. In the meantime, this is just serving as a springboard for people to rage against tired, unconstructive arguments.
