Because they are making precursors easier to get, starting in the next build/patch.
They never said “easier”, they stated that they will be introducing new ways of getting them.
“The best defense is a strong offense.”
“…scaling the dungeon to the highest common attained level.”
This sounds to me like it will scale based on a mean of the group so that if one or two of the players haven’t been deep enough to attain infusions, the dungeon will automatically be set to a difficulty not requiring the infusions. That way people without them can still run with people that have them and thus will not hinder the groups progress, that’s my thought anyway.
“The best defense is a strong offense.”
They never stated that the content would require the infusions, it would just be made easier by them. It is an awful lot like(if not exactly the same as) the infusions against spectral agony used by the Mursaat in the original Guild Wars. Was it impossible to play the content without it? no. Was it more difficult without it? yes.
For some people this may read as “gating it off” so that only people with the infusions will be able to do the content, does that mean this will happen? All I have to say is wait and see. Patience is a virtue, you’re complaining about a mechanic that you have yet to see in action and assuming it is exactly like something you don’t like, It may turn out to be something completely different.

The thing you’re failing to realize is for every person who hates this, there’s a person who loves it.
I do believe this thread is a clear indication that the numbers tip towards the “we hate this” demographic.
I’m just going to repost this because.. it still holds true 5000+ posts in.

My thoughts on this topic: there is already a “treadmill” in place you start off with white quality gear and end up (at 80) still getting white level gear aswell as blue yellow and finally orange and purple (or blue… w/e legendary is). If they intended for zero gear progression they would have either;
A.) Made white quality gear “max” and then you would only have to look for gear you like the looks of. (rather boring in my opinion)
B.) Have each “tier” of gear level specific i.e. white is 1-19 blue is 20-39 yellow is 40-59 and then exotic’s/legendary and w/e else would be 60-80 or what have you. Also make each “tier” only drop from those level zones or creatures or whatever…
The system that is in place now is, I repeat IS a gear treadmill of sorts, smoothly pulled off so it doesn’t really feel like one but it is. You don’t start off with max armor and thus have to gear yourself up. Sure it doesn’t take long and sure once you’ve maxed your gears you only need to upgrade looks (well until this patch hits…).
I honestly don’t mind a bit of “gear progression” and as they stated IT WILL GIVE THE PEOPLE WHO WERE COMPLAINING THEY HAD NOTHING TO DO, SOMETHING TO DO!

Since the start of gw2. I’m pretty sure about it, I have pictures from the headstart, where you can see it pulsating
I like it.
Ah.. well I figured it out, on low shader quality it doesn’t pulsate.. and tbh I like it consistently glowing rather then pulsating… so basically I have to play on a lower quality to get it that way. >.>
“The best defense is a strong offense.”
The glow effect normally pulses.
Since when? because before today I have never noticed it pulsating, it has always been a constant glow…
“The best defense is a strong offense.”
Why is it that my glow effect is now pulsating on and off about every 5-10 seconds?
Is this because the day/night cycle has been set to change every 5-10 seconds now, or what because that would be really strange…
“The best defense is a strong offense.”
Strange, I honestly do not remember seeing those. Where exactly in the jade sea could they be found?
The main place I remember them from was zos shiros channel (possibly wrong spelling..) the first challenge mission in the jade sea.
It is in “the Deep” which was a endgame dungeon in GW1.
As you play “the Deep” there are hints that Kanaxai may actually be a Champion of “Bubbles” because of how he is able to corrupt the Luxons who went into the Deep and how he commands and creates these Leviathans, Oni, and other types of tentacle like abominations.
So then it could well be that we are going to be dealing with minions of bubbles! (I’m deferentially going to need to go through the deep again!)
“The best defense is a strong offense.”
(edited by Darknass.1903)
There was a similar creature in GW Factions.
(Don’t remember the name, can’t find wiki page :/ )
Ah yes the Leviathans, if this is what they are (or at least related to) they’ve come a long way from home, since they reside mainly within the jade sea.
Edit: I found the wiki page here

Like to some other peoples thoughts on this, I think the Karka could possibly be the minions of bubbles (the deep sea dragon) stirred up from the depths. Could it be that the risen may disturbed them?

“We got a new level 80 zone that isn’t Risen. Why can’t everyone be happy about that?”
It’s funny that people are saying this. Orr and farming the Risen didn’t kill the game for everyone – look at how many pages there are over how upset people are over this.

I believe I read somewhere that the gear will only be better within the dungeon itself and function as a normal piece of gear outside of the dungeon. (if I can find the post I will edit this)
That’s even worse. LFG for dungeon, must have ascended armor…
How’s that worse? That’s just like Prophecies endgame. Or Factions (must be Weh no Suh) or NF (must have Lightbringer R3 minimum).
This, also If they literally intended for absolutely no gear grinding, they would have started you with max armor, and the only thing you would need to do is find a set you like to looks of.

You don’t need to be level 80 to experience the game, that isn’t the way it was designed. It was designed that you get to level 80 as you experience the game, so for the people who bum rushed to level 80 thinking that all the good content is at the “end” are now disappointed. The entire game is endgame content, It wasn’t designed to be rushed through, it was designed to be experienced. Sure there aren’t many “level specific” things to be done at level 80, but there is a down leveling system for a reason. If you bum rushed to level 80 without second thought, maybe you should run around the world, explore I’m sure you’ll find something interesting, and if not then you’ve missed the point entirely.
This is patently wrong. Once you are at level 80 there is only one place that is worth your time to farm, and that’s cursed shore (and MAYBE malchor’s leap if you have enough people at the right events.)
The problem I was alluding to was not the fact that I expected the open-world grinding part of the game to somehow magically transform at level 80, but the fact that one area is vastly superior to all other areas in terms of profitability, despite there being no real increase in the complexity or difficulty of the content. This is bad game design. I’m really hoping lost shore provides a viable alternative, but I’m also hoping that the devs provide viable incentives to revisit the older zones.
So what your saying is your idea of “endgame” is farming/grinding all day long? If so then yes, there are only a few suitable places to farm, but for those who play the game for entertainment value rather then grinding gold… (for whatever reason) THE ENTIRE GAME IS ENTERTAINING. The “incentives” for going back to lower level zones are purely for entertainment, if you don’t find it entertaining to explore different areas then I guess my point is completely lost on you. Sure the best way to get your shiny pixels the fastest (as of right now) is by grinding the plinx DE chain over and over and over and over and over again, but is it entertaining for you? If not, there is a whole big wide open world to explore.

Much agreed I think the biggest issue I’ve had with moving over to gw2 was the level progression I’m not gonna lie I hate high level caps, they force you to not spend money for most of the game and then drag hours out of you just trying to max gear, i personally agreed and loved the gw1 philosophy of low level cap, cheap max armor and then grinding for appearance the more of a bamf you were the more you looked like a bamf.
Honestly baseline exotics(max armor) are cheap, there is grinding for better looking armor and especially weapons. Idk if you’ve heard but there are these things called legendary weapons, I hear their kind of a big deal.

They don’t just have one team fixing bugs and such, I’m sure their graphics department (or whatever they refer to it as) have been working on resolving some if not a lot of the more major issues. That being said armor clipping and such may come in second to the environmental and more major animation issues.

They are worth the price of the keys. If you look the mean price for a booster alone is around 100 gems (not including the ones exclusive to the chest). Tonics aren’t meant to be “useful” and are as such a cosmetic/fun item, and the tools (including the chance to get BL salvage kits and transmutation stones) are all fairly useful. As for me personally I wouldn’t really aim to buy them, but I see them more as a filler item they just threw together as a “package deal” type thing that I could spend some left over gems on or something and get my monies worth.

Maybe they figured by the time you hit 80 you would have “friends” or maybe guildies or maybe just some people you met along the way to help you on your adventures? I mean if your playing an MMO you may be expected to play with other actual people every once in awhile, and if you don’t like doing so, maybe you should rethink your choice of genre?

I refer you to this, about the increase in prices for certain things. Also if anything, rares are dropping more often now, as i’ve notice a large spike in rare drops in the past few days.

The basic thing keeping most players from buying from 3rd party is basic common sense:
A.) Do I risk having my account stolen/banned or even my real life credit ruined because I want more “bang for my buck”
or
B.) Invest in the game by purchasing gems and get a lower return out of it but be assured that the transaction is 100% safe.
most people will side with the safer and even more productive option in the long run since you will be creating revenue for Anet as well as being assured that there is zero risk of something negative happening. For those people who see fit to endeavor into the riskier and more destructive mode of obtaining their gold (It is in all honesty damaging to the game to invest in a 3rd party gold seller), I’m sure they will get their just rewards in time.
In the end it comes down to; shall I ruin the game, or invest in it’s future?
GW2 has a full cash shop and Arenanet’s choice to arbitrarily set the value of Tyrian gold is more exploitative than blizzard ever thought of being.
It isn’t arbitrary, since the gem to gold and gold to gem prices aren’t set by Anet.
the prices are set by supply and demand e.g. someone buys some gems, and them transfers them to gold, this will cause the price of gold to raise as there is a demand for it. So the next customer who wants to transfer gems to gold will have to pay slightly more for the same amount of gold, and so on and so forth. Until someone comes along wishing to transfer gold to gems, which will in turn boost the value of gems and reduce the value of gold slightly . This is also only true to the cash shop, the value of gold does not raise or lower through other sources in the game and as such only effects gem to gold and gold to gem exchanges via the cash shop.

People sometimes can’t get what they want while others do. Let’s not ruin the possibility for something truly awesome.
I looked up the definition for awesome. Strangely, I can’t find the part where it occurs in a narrow time window. Can you point it out for me? Are you looking at Websters or Oxford for that?[/quote]
If it happened repeatedly the “awesomeness” of it would most likely diminish. I would rather witness something exceedingly epic that was scripted to only happen once rather then something that is much less fun that happens every couple of hours or something.
“The best defense is a strong offense.”
I honestly don’t see how this is a “problem”. The game is designed to give you the freedom to create you character however you want, there are 5 different races and two distinct genders for each. This is an mmo-ROLE PLAYING GAME, meaning you chose to play as what YOU want, not what others chose for you. If your to close minded to see that some people want something different out of their character from you then I have no words to change your mind because your obviously stuck in your way of thinking. ROLE PLAYING GAMES are all about choices, if you chose to make your character a girl as a guy, good for you. If you chose to make your character a guy as a girl, good for you. It goes both ways, and you can chose to play whatever you want.
That being said I understand some people lack the imagination to play from a different perspective, that is perfectly fine, just don’t hate on people that feel they want to be creative with their characters.
I personally have multiple female characters and also a few male characters, does it mean I secretly want to be a woman? no. Does it mean I have never done “it”? (since the forum chat filter keeps giving me kittens /sigh) no. I personally enjoy playing as both and see no problem with other people doing so as well. I don’t see how some people can be so surprised by this.
TL DR; pixels are pixels and you shouldn’t judge people because of them.

Just play the yakkity sax when he comes on and it becomes a lot funnier
That song should just que automatically, just did the fight and I have to say it was probably 10 times more hilarious.
On topic: It does seem he is basically designed as a “zerg buster” (patent pending.) because even if you have 30+ people it is still a kitten hard fight. Maybe its intentional?
“The best defense is a strong offense.”
They do keep a ranking system for WvW but it is not open for the public to see. This is how they determine the other 2 world you fight against every reset. The top 3 ranks fight each other, the next 3 fight each other, all the way down the list. So the 3 worst servers end up fighting each other and its still a fair battle. (Server transfers screw this up).
Actually they do and it is here
“The best defense is a strong offense.”
1. While I agree some weapons could do with a personal touch, a-lot of the higher end ones especially those like nightmare and Sylvari cultural weapons have massive detail to them and would require a massive amount of reworking to make them dye-able.
2. This would be really nice to have, much like you I like to play around with my colors and often have several different combos that I like.
3.This could work, but would require a bit of thought into it since I doubt they would want people to be able to buy a set, wear it for a little while and then trade it back in for another one.
4. Not really my forte, but I guess it could be implemented some time down the road.
5. This is something I have seen a-lot of but honestly for most of the instances where you really need it, like during a fight with a dragon, it automatically happens anyway. For the rest of them it doesn’t really seem to be necessary.
“The best defense is a strong offense.”
Scarce nature of money?
People are buying legendary precursors for upward of 300G, there’s certainly no shortage of money in the game.
Don’t mistake you being poor for everyone being poor.
You don’t need to spend real money on gems or spend hours grinding, just make a few good investments on the tradepost.
For example, the mad moon sheild was about 10 gold at the start of the Halloween event, now it’s about 25 gold.
If you had bought a coupel of those when they were cheap, you would have tonnes of gold now. Also, since they can’t be made any more, the prices are only likely to go up…
The fact that you think A-net intended for people to earn their unique armor sets through sitting at the TP all day flipping items is absurd. It ludicrous to think that the best ways to make gold isn’t from actually playing the game (I know right?) but;
One.) playing the TP (who honestly plays gw2 just to do this?)
II.) exploiters/hackers who have gone unnoticed or have yet to be dealt with.
3.) getting extremely lucky.
D.) buy it with real currency.
I Honestly have yet to have more then 10g at any one given time (mainly because I’m not stingy with it.), and I have gotten quite lucky on a few things as-well as grinding my face off to get crafting mats and what not to sell on the tp. In total I have well over 100k karma just from playing and outside of legendary items there isn’t a really big karma sink.
Now to my point, They could make the set something on the order of like 500k karma for the full set to make it equally as difficult to obtain and hardly a slap to the face to the people who earned it using gold.

It can also get quite taxing on some graphics cards (mine included) where I can drop from my normal ~30-45 fps whilst running around normally to 5-10 during huge encounters, which basically renders me completely unable to react to any major mechanics (if I can even see them) in time to avoid being pummeled to death or what not.
“The best defense is a strong offense.”
In all fairness you do spend like 10 levels “weakening” him through you personal story, did you really expect it to be and extremely difficult encounter? Sure it is a bit disappointing that all you really do to him is a fire a cannon at him, but after the mega laser and barrage of cannon fire (through the cutscenes) he was significantly weaken’d. I do think they could have approached the fight much differently but, I think their point was that this time destiny’s edge came well prepared to down him, with or without you to lead the way.
“The best defense is a strong offense.”
Simple solution to this, keep any extra weapons you have that you use but don’t have equipped in an invisible bag (can be crafted by tailors, leatherworkers, and armorsmiths)..
“The best defense is a strong offense.”

I am not entirely sure why they made the armor gold only and the weapons karma only, it seems a bit defunct to me, but I guess they were expecting you to be able to obtain both in a fairly similar time frame. With the scarce nature of gold, outside getting extremely lucky or flat out exploiting the game, it is very hard to come by. Where as karma is much easier to obtain, which in turn makes it much harder to obtain the armor vs the weapons.

Dont get me wrong I want to see GW2 succeed but I honestly dont feel they are making an honest effort. They Either released the game way earlier then they should have or They are spread to thin " having different teams doing different thing" and should be focusing on fixing what is wrong and broken before even considering adding something new. Its like having a car that keep breaking down on you but your going tp spend a large portion of your resources to repaint the car because you would rather it look good then run smoothly. I.E Priorities come first.
Yet again another person yelling “GIMME NOW IDC HOW LONG IT TAKES I WANT IT NOW AND I WANT IT PERFECT!!!”
They are fixing things as they arise, and unless you want them to be kitten fixes that only solve part of the problem, they take time to fix. I’m sure they have several fixes in the works for things like stuck/bugged events and such, but they aren’t finished so they haven’t implemented them yet. Do you think WoW started off smooth and free of bugs? no, of course not, if your expecting a game that just launched a few months ago to be perfect then… well idk what to say because obviously you haven’t the slightest clue how these things work. Also just because some things are still a bit buggy doesn’t mean they can’t start introducing new things, but apparently according to your logic it has to be perfect before new things can come out. I am getting really tired of saying this on these forums, because I’ve said it alot, PATIENCE IS A VIRTUE.

All Halloween items will remain in the Gem Store until November 7.
Personalized Trick or Treat Bags will remain in the Gem Store until November 15.
The chance to get rare Halloween-related skins from the Black Lion Chest will remain until November 15.

I did feel a little shafted by loot myself. I had yet to see a single yellow drop while running around the MKR/MKA to the point where it doesn’t even feel RNG – I know it is but after hours upon hours of farming a zone dedicated to this event and not getting gear to gaggle over – that bugged me. Meanwhile players who specced for magic find could get lucky and get three pieces in a couple hours.
Magic find doesn’t help all that much, I have a set dedicated to it and a normal dungeon running set on my main character, and I’ve run Ascent of Madness both with and without the MF set. Getting around about the same results, not to say that its a great sample size, but to me it didn’t really make much difference. Anyway this seems a bit off topic.
First of all wtf is an endless tonic?
’tis a tonic that has unlimited uses and can grant any of effects from the tonics that drop from ToT bags (but not the tonics that drop form Ascent of Madness).
