The only reason there seem to be less people now then in the beta is due to the fact that the player level ranger is much more spread out, so there aren’t just massive zergs of people in every area (excluding the high level zones such as cursed shore and straights of devastation, main due to people farming karma). There are still about the same amount of players active, your just not seeing them because their spread out throughout the world (which is quite large if you haven’t noticed…)
“The best defense is a strong offense.”
They were originally going to do this, but somewhere down the line they decided it was better to have them character based, so I doubt they will change it.
“The best defense is a strong offense.”
Simply put, NO.
Tyria is meant to be explored, and having a mount would diminish this greatly.

Then don’t buy them? No need to come make a post about how your going to not buy them.. just don’t. i actually took the time to log in and post something for once because i think this is the dumbest most “give me attention mommy” post i’ve seen in a long time.
Some content is locked for players who don’t buy the keys.
They said you can mystic tonic which can be used in the mystic forge and get custom skins and other halloween stuff, only those extremely lucky to get a key or buy them get access to this content.
Everybody else gets the finger.
If they are going to make the Black Lion chest useful during and event then they should boost the key drop rate for the event only and then go back to normal if they must.
Just don’t make it “exclusive” to those willing to pay real money.
Honestly? this again? Seriously BLC are not required for game play at any rate, the things that drop for Halloween are purely cosmetic, and the stuff that drops out of the mad kings chests were a solution to those whining that they didn’t get ample amount of chance to get those purely cosmetic skins. So in essence they made it that way for those of you who deemed them “worthless” in the first place. If your going to dwell on a minor part of the game that was added because they felt they needed some extra income (How dare they!) every now and again from the players that feel they want to roll the dice on some shiny holiday items, or the people that want some of the unique tools and such from the chests, then all I have to say is have fun.
… as someone said “The best item you can get out of a black lion chest is a black lion key”
And given that so many people feel that way, the devs might want to review the contents of the BLCs.
Actually there ARE quite a few things that drop that are quite useful e.g. the BL salvage kit which is a great way of getting ectos, the unique gathering tools which yield alot more rare stuff from nodes, and some of the unique boosters which are nice aswell.
None of that is required for gameplay, but they are nice things to have, and once you’ve gotten to 80, you can easily get gems with in game gold if you so chose rather then having to pay real money. Basically the people that whine they can access them because they don’t want to pay real money, obviously haven’t played enough to even really need the things that come out of them. other then the new Halloween skins, which are purely cosmetic and yet again don’t effect game play in the slightest.
tl;dr: A net is a game company trying to make money, simple as that.

Titles are cosmetic, as will many things in this game. End of story.

Well…if you don’t want to make sense, go engineer. I love how my nature-loving flowery sylvari prances around in her distinctive child-like animations and clothes, and then upon meeting a random animal suddenly pulls out a flame thrower and burns everything on sight.
While smiling.
So THAT is who the Pyro is in TF 2! I get it now!
On topic: Ranger is a perfect fit, naturey (its a word!), fern hound is a perfect fit, and well you get the rest.
Also Elementalist works quite well since they are well attuned with the elements.

It could possibly be that Tyria is much younger geologically then say earth for example which has had A-lot of time to shift about and flatten out quite a bit. Just Imagine Pangaea, It was most likely much more mountainous then the earth is today, or it may just seem that way due to all the continental plates being crammed together. Basically Tyria is a Pangaea-esc world since all the major bits are all shoved up next to each other, aside from Cathan and few volcanicly created islands (the ring of fire).

I’d just like to say, I love that we get to finally be able to kill if only temporarily Mad King Thorn repeatedly, as he so cruelly did to us in the original Guild Wars.
“The best defense is a strong offense.”
Most likely, since the 4th act (and most likely the party) starts on Wednesday, the 31st.

I open’d roughly 500 personal ToT bags to get mine, I tried 500 normal aswell with no such luck, not a conclusive test but it may lean more towards a higher % chance from personalized.
“The best defense is a strong offense.”
I am going to have to say so far, this is by far the most fun I have had during a holiday event of any game I have played MMO or not, ever.
No seriously I mean it.
The Clock Tower: very challenging and engaging to those who enjoy doing jumping puzzles.
Reapers Rumble and Lunatic Inquisition: Both great PvP style mini games that I would love to see added as permanent incarnations in one way or another. Anet you really have something good here it would please me and many others alike to see this as a permanent addition to the game!
Ascent To Madness: Great fun finally getting to beat up Mad King Thorn, after all those horribly punny jokes in the original Guild Wars, and being repeatedly murdered by him.
The Scavenger hunt: A true test of knowledge and logical thinking for those who didn’t consort to using the wiki or other sources.
Oh and the cut scene ooohhh the cut scene, twas pure epicness! Mad King Thorn “GUESS WHO’s BACK!” I think my jaw hit my desk when he popped out of the statue, was defiantly not expecting it…
The only fault I have had thus far and Pales in comparison to the fun I’ve been having, is the loot. Albeit it may just be me and my rotten luck but all I’ve seen from ANY of the reward chests for the dungeon and The Mad Kings Labyrinth have been greens. I guess this is just some force beyond me cough trying to get me to avoid going mad by grinding my butt off for “shinies!” as the Skritt would say.
“The best defense is a strong offense.”
(edited by Darknass.1903)
Yeah the cut scene was pretty epic, especially because I was hardly paying attention when it happened so I was thoroughly impressed (and didn’t get to snap any screenshots because I was mesmerized.). The dungeon is also quite good fun. Not going to go into the rewards though because as per my usual luck with such things I am now rolling in a bunch of vendor food.
“The best defense is a strong offense.”
What’s funny is the topic of this thread after seeing that this is the most profitable and rewarding thing to do since the game was released….by a huge margin.
If you actually have any luck at all because honestly, I’ve done 6 runs (I know hardly A-lot but enough to turn me away from “farming” it) and the BEST thing I got was the silver at the end of the first run.. YAY!
“The best defense is a strong offense.”
6 runs, greens, greens, more greens, even MORE greens some random loot bags (that drop from enemies.), Some ToT bags, a karma booster, and a strength booster. WooHOO!!! Now don’t get me wrong, I’m not usually one to whine but honestly in almost every run I was in someone got an exotic, and one guy even got The Crossing (the exotic staff) which is worth ~33g atm, this makes me a bit depressed. If I didn’t have so much fun doing the dungeon and the rest of the event all together I would probably be out for heads right about now.

+1, although not to the point of keeping (what I’m guessing your saying.) actual profession specific skills, nonono that would imbalance it. Having everyone given the same skills is much, much better balance wise IMO, since everyone is equal and all that is left to chance is how well the player uses those skills and the environment their in and such.
“The best defense is a strong offense.”
It’s just impossible to get past the first quarter as an asura when there are huge norns and charr blocking your view. The time limit is too narrow (1-2 seconds to land a jump) so this is where my halloween title hunt ends, just not worth the effort. I already put 4 frustrating hours into this
The Clock Tower doesn’t count towards the title, just sayin.
“The best defense is a strong offense.”
You do not need to be in a party to get loot, or a higher chance of loot. The way it works is there is basically a counter on each enemy, and it takes X amount of damage done to that enemy from you, to get a chance of it dropping loot for you. So basically If you want to have a higher chance of getting loot from every mob, you have to be doing X amount of damage to it. It is also worthy to note that you will not always get loot even if you reach the required damage to be done to said enemy, due to the fact that there is nothing on any loot table of any mob (that I know of anyway) with a 100% chance to drop.
“The best defense is a strong offense.”
I see this word being used all over the forums, what is the deal with it? Is it a GW1 thing or something? Kitten this, kitten that, kitten KITTEN KITTEN!
Don’t get me wrong, I love kittens – I actually wish I had one right now and I miss my old white kitten called White Fluffy
(((( – but I’m really confused!
It’s the forum chat filter I.E. curse word x translates into kitten. I would do a proper example but well the chat filter is so kittening good!
“The best defense is a strong offense.”
Yes you can. Doing the scavenger hunt isn’t required for the achievement/title.
“The best defense is a strong offense.”
This would be great! atm I’m sitting on 62 basic stones and am getting them faster then I’m using them, and I love transmuting gear. Though they would probably have to make the conversion a bit harsh so that it seen as a good way to rid of excess of them without making buying fine stones obsolete.
“The best defense is a strong offense.”
But what is there to be behind in? In my experience, besides all the fluff, 99% of content is available no matter how much money you have.
It’s all about the pixels to some people, if they see someone else with a shiny weapon they get envious and want something shiny for themselves.
“The best defense is a strong offense.”
Supported as its sunday, religion is > event.
I live central US, I cant complain about the time, but I do feel bad for European & oceanic players. ANet drops the ball again.
Actually 19:00 GMT is great for Europeans since this is pretty much prime gaming time for them, and seen as a large chunk of the player base is European they tend to cater to them.
“The best defense is a strong offense.”
They could have just scaled the event 8 hours earlier. X.x, I don’t see how people can’t get online between 11am-1pm on a Sunday. :/
This would mean that it would be 3 AM- 6 AM for the north american time zones which is probably far to early for most players, even if it is a Sunday. But I do agree they could cut it back a little bit like say.. 2-4ish hours which would mean that it would be hitting a larger chunk of people during the day.

“The best defense is a strong offense.”
It seems A-lot of people are having this issue, it may just be that there are to many people trying to join in, idk that’s my thought though.
Same thing seems to happen no matter what npc you talk to for this, I tried the ones in Queensdale, Caledon, and from the Mad Kings realm itself, got the same error all three times.
“The best defense is a strong offense.”
Haven’t been able to access it sadly.. though I’m loving the clock tower, even though I’m horribly bad at it. :P
“The best defense is a strong offense.”
Honestly, it doesn’t really matter to me what is added beyond this point unless changes to the existing items accompany the updates. The presence of the type of content they’ve opted for within a festival setting at all is enough to make things unpalatable to me. I’ll stick around to see the new areas and events for the Hell of it, but really, there’s nothing additional they could really add to win me back at this point.
If your going to be all pessimistic because Anet doesn’t cater to your every beck and whim, then you should probably just stop playing and delete you characters or w/e it is you do when you quit a SUBSCRIPTION-LESS game. They simply won’t do it, Anet is in my opinion one of the best gaming companies out there when it comes to community satisfaction, but just because one tiny thing didn’t go the way you thought it would doesn’t mean their going to “fix” something that isn’t broken. To the point about “winning you back” we have hardly seen the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the content of this event, Anet tend to put in all the grindy bits of their holiday events first so that everyone can get it out of the way, and then add most of the fun bits of the event. I’m sure whatever they have planned for the mad king, its going to be a real crowd please-er, as i said look before you leap and leave you complaints until AFTER the event.
“The best defense is a strong offense.”
Also, the event has hardly begun, there is still quite a bit more fun (or heartache if your going to be pessimistic because a chest didn’t give you what you want…) to be had. If you ever played the Original Guild Wars you would know that Anet generally just puts in the basics of the event at first and THEN gets to the good stuff. Trust me when I say those who haven’t already quit should be pleasantly surprised by the coming acts.

Act 1: introduction, It’s Halloween get a feel for it maybe work on getting some achievements.
Act 2: More content! yay!
Act 3: EVEN MORE CONTENT! YAY!!!
Act 4: The end, this is when you express your disappointment (if any) for the event, NOT BEFORE.
My point is, wait to see what more there is to come before jumping off the deep end. If you aren’t impressed by the end then go for it, cry all you want about how bad it was, not before. This isn’t WoW or any comparable MMO where they throw everything at you all at once.
Be patient and look before you leap.
“The best defense is a strong offense.”
Honestly to look at all these threads QQing that they aren’t getting anything unique it makes me think, have these people actually DONE anything event wise other then opening chest?
I actually like those item you got from event but compare to skins that you get from chests I can see why people still mad about it.
The event isn’t even over yet, there are still THREE acts left, and I’m betting there will probably be some nice unique skins to come, and if not THEN you can whine about it. patience is a virtue, don’t count your eggs before they hatch.

There are “souvenir” skins, I.E. demon horns, the book from the scavenger hunt, and I’m sure there will be more to come, but obviously those aren’t good enough for you? now we’re just getting down to semantics…
“The best defense is a strong offense.”
There should also be a rule that if you spend half your savings at the casino every month then you should come out ahead every time. I’m not trying to troll you or anything, it was announced as a chance to get a skin and thats what it ended up being.
It’s actually ended up being 2 chances.. so basically the casino has said you get a free spin on the roulette wheel! unless you so foolishly deleted or used or w/e with the tonics and boosters you gained from the BLC in which case I feel sorry for you.
Oh and did I mention they let you KEEP the gathering tools… woo!

+1, really love the event thus far, keep it up!
“The best defense is a strong offense.”
Yet again, They added this recipe specifically for people who cried about not getting anything Halloween oriented from the BLC that they so assumed would do so, not for people that have been buying BLC before Halloween.
“The best defense is a strong offense.”
Simply, no.
just no.
oh did I mention, no?
This was implemented to give the people who whined about not getting anything Halloween-esc from the BLC for Halloween, not for people who hoarded tons of tonics.
“The best defense is a strong offense.”
I believe this say’s it all:
“The best defense is a strong offense.”
le sigh giving the whiner’s what they want isn’t going to fix the problem, I can only see it snowballing from here… “OMFG THOSE REQUIREMENTS TO GET THEM ARE RIDICULOUS HOW DO YOU EXPECT ME TO GET THE THING THAT I’VE BEEN WHINING ABOUT FOR THE PAST DAY? BUY MORE KEYS? I DON’T THINK SO! LOWER THE REQUIREMENTS!!! QQ.” and so on and so forth… I say leave the drop rate where it is, I foresee getting lynch mobbed…
I can’t believe a bunch of whiny kittens has twisted your arm into fixing something that isn’t broken…
bottom line as I’ve said before the BLC are worth more then key’s needed to open them, and if you spent 100’s of dollars expecting to get some cool skin out of them, and nothing else (you know the stuff that has been dropping out of them since the release of the game… which I might add are fairly useful…)and then whine that you didn’t get what you payed for you should be ashamed. The way I see it the BLC was designed to do one thing, let people who desire to use gems a neat little pack of useful items some more then others but all fairly handy if used properly, as well as something a little more cosmetic or fun to use all in one. All in all the BLC is a nice little booster pack that got a little more fluff for Halloween.
I have paid my fair share on these little goody bags, and I got everything I was expecting out of them, did I get a shiny Halloween skin? nope, but I did get some useful tools, boosters, and some fun to play around with tonics that I enjoy using in the costume brawl, etc.

There is just no pleasing some people apparently… “QQ I got a bunch of blues and greens that aren’t even level 80! please fix!”, “Sure thing we’ll get to work on making some better rewards for you!”, “QQ RARE WTF IS THIS?! THIS ISN’T GOOD ENOUGH QQ QQ QQ QQ”
You’re seriously going to complain that something they probably put a good bit of time into implementing and is far superior to what you got before hand isn’t good enough? sigh
On a more positive note, thank you A-Net for the time and effort put into these weapons and I must say they look really good!
“The best defense is a strong offense.”
greatswords will always have top priority when it comes to looks in this game….
Yeah there is some EPIC favoritism in this game as far as greatsword cosmetics go….
tbh you’re obviously not looking hard enough when it comes to good looking skins, I mean the legendary short bow is great example it’s like the greatest looking thing ever created by anyone ever.
In all honesty though there are some pretty great looking skins for other weapons, you just gotta know where to look. Then again taste is a matter of opinion so I guess not everything will look good to everyone soooo… to each his own.

I honestly don’t see how a-lot of the people QQing are they aren’t having fun because they got “ripped off” by the BLC, which is a minuscule thing that they added as fluff imo, and yet there is an entire event focused around the return of mad King Thorn going on and so many things to do other then gamble on getting shiny item skins… I’m sure if they wanted the majority of the “fun” of the event being focused around the items they would have called it “Shadow of the Black Lion Trading company”, Rather then “Shadow of the Mad King”.
“The best defense is a strong offense.”
It’s NEVER fun to lose hard earned money that you worked for in real life.
This, pretty much, sums up what I was going to say. The point many people are trying to make here isn’t that “oh no we want the skins wah” but rather “I just wasted $x thinking I had a fair shot at these”. It’s the wasted money that’s the problem. And the wasted money is caused by the low odds, hence the complaints about the low odds. If keys weren’t gem shop items I personally wouldn’t care about the odds, since there’d be no waste of real money involved.
You should have know full well that you were gambling, and thus realized that you had potential to not get any of the unique skins. Look at it this way, the BLC’s still give everything they always have, with an ADDED chance of the Halloween themed items that people might find nice to look at, you paid for a booster, tool, and set of tonics with an extra CHANCE to get the shiny skins.
I’m sure A-Net isn’t as devious as people are accusing them of being, here’s how I see it; “hey how ‘bout we add some awesome skins to the BLC for Halloween so that people that want to take the chance at getting them can show them off, and for all the people that don’t feel like taking a risk, they can just buy them off the TP if they want the skin.”
“The best defense is a strong offense.”

Yeah the expectation of generosity from GW1 was my biggest mistake. I keep telling people this isn’t WoW, this is a sequel to GW1. I’m wrong. I’m not sure what this is. It’s a mix of a few things, but someone on the inside definitely works for Nexon.
You still get the Halloweeny events, you still get the awesome free hats, you still get everything you got from gw1, and more! and all anyone can do is complain about the “and more” part. >_>
“The best defense is a strong offense.”
don’t you guys ever think that the drop rate is low because ANet wanted the item to be rare? If everyone got skins from every chest, and everyone was running around with halloween skinned weapons, wouldn’t you feel like it was less of an accomplishment to have one? seriously now :<
Accomplishment? What? This is a holiday, this is supposed to be everyone running around in halloween costumes and having fun, not a contest to see who can win the most gold or spend the most cash on the event.
If you wanted to run around with halloween themed items and have fun, then you would’ve spent candy corn on the skins that had a time limit on them. Or you know, do all of the other stuff in the event that allows you to run around in a halloween costume and have fun. Gambling on the Black Lion Chests is for a permanent version which people can flaunt off year round and look cool with. It makes perfect sense for the items to be rare.
You can also craft permanent versions of the 4 hour trial items you get with CC/karma.
“The best defense is a strong offense.”
The fact of the matter is, A-Net didn’t make you buy the keys, YOU decided to buy the gems with gold or actual currency to use on they keys. Sure they decided to add a chance (small but nonetheless still a CHANCE) to receive Halloween themed items from a chest that requires you to spend gold/currency to open them (for the most part) but that doesn’t mean YOU had to do so. If you find yourself getting mad that YOU decided to spend a bunch of gems on keys and got “nothing” out of it then it is your own fault. To the point of getting “nothing”; you still get quite a bit out of the black lion chests even if not the Halloween skins often times you get a-lot more out of it then you put in, and the skins are just an added Halloween bonus.
“The best defense is a strong offense.”
Simply put, I was wondering is the way magic find stacks additive or multiplicative, I.E. if I have say;
. 10% on gear (actual armor stats, not sure how this would stack with runes)
. 6x Superior runes of the pirate = + 50% MF ( I would assume it stacks additively within itself)
. a magic find booster ( +50% MF)
. and an omnomberry bar (30% MF)
Would this ADD to 140%, or would it result in say anywhere between 29.25% (assuming nothing adds outside of itself) to 120% (if the runes and armor stack and everything else multiplies with them)
My maths may be a bit confusing but basically I did it in order of application, armor>runes>MF booster>food
Does it have different behavior for the way it stacks depending on what type it is? (armor/runes and buffs/boosters and such) would really some dev clarification.
PS; wasn’t sure what forum to put this under… so I put it here, feel free to move it to where it belongs.
