No speed boon for thieves?

the one on steal isn’t too bad and can be triggered without a target, though does mean blowing your cooldown and of course if you have autotarget on you can and will teleport into things that will kill you (for example flaming boulders in volcanic fractal count as mobs for steal auto target and will teleport you into instant death)

But we lack lots of boon support really.

all other professions have cooldowns on thier core skills. thieves do not because they use initiative.

i have another idea… if an elementalist uses ride the lightning and they dont hit an enemy.. its instantly reset.

if a mesmer uses blurred strike and dont hit an enemy they can just repeat it over and over.

chaining stealth pretty much erases you from the game until you decide to go back in.. without very specific things like a vortex ability. even in other games with perma stealth the trade off is reveal on damage so you can fish for stealthers and they cant enter the center of a fight without alot of work. gw2 traded the damage reveal for not having perma stealth and that was stated from the start.

i play a thief and i dont have any issue with this. i hate gimic fights taht dont rely on any kind of skill. chaining stealth isnt out playing someone its failing to do your job and trying to reset it and go again.

learn to be more effective and if you fail….. you may have to eat the 3 seconds visible using evades or some other non stealth skill to handle it .. then you can crawl back in the womb of stealth where you feel safe and warm.

except thieves do have cooldowns on a all but basically there 1 weapon stealth

And its not even the cooldown im talking about its the gap between use, everyone can pop all there abilities basically back to back if need be, with the blanket nerf change a thief will be the only one unable to do so because instead of focusing the alteration to where the percieved issues is (CnD spam) they’ve decided it should ALL be nerfed

thief was not supposed to walk around stealth just incase they ran into someone. that has been stated since the start.. this is not wow if you want to hide until someone gets low and run up and ambush them there is still a game for that. it is used as a tool durring a fight … you chooose if it is better to use it offensive or defensive and then yes you will get the reveal buff, need to deal with the short time you can be seen before choosing what to do with your next stealth.

if you cant handle yourself for 3 seconds without dieing inbetween being stealthed then im not sure any amount of buffs can save you.

Its not walking around stealthed its seeing a group, stealthing up and heading in.

And for your other point then im sure you wont mind ALL professions having one of their core skills locked so they cannot chain em legitimately or otherwise

they are not taking away stealth. stealth using thieves can still use stealth. they just cant chain it. if you are a thief that relys on stealth to do your damage this change will have 0 effect on you because when you do damage you will get the reveal buff anyway.

Not quite zero, you’ll not longer be able to use stealth to get within range before starting the fight (arrive there as stealth fades and open up with your combos etc)

For those using stealth as a defensive mechanism, your effectively locked out of using a defensive skill everytime you use one of them (considering thieves have limited defenses) no one else gets locked out of their defensive skills when they use one, the only way around this would to be to fire them all off more or less together to stack stealth, and again no one else has to burn all their defenses just to stop em getting locked from consecutive use.

Throw in the fact that a thief thats perma-stealthed is not a threat they are either retreating (thus technically defeated if not giving reward) or their hovering around you not doing anything and potentially taking damage.

So basically to fix 1 or 2 problems that mostly just affect new players they do a blanket nerf of an entire mechanic and then promise future buffs (which they have done before and never got around to it)

Another funny thing about the censor is how dumb it is. If it “sees” certain letter combinations, even in adjacent words, it will censor them and add a kitten. For example, if one word ends with an sh, and the next word begins with an it, a kitten will appear and link the words together. It should be called, the Puritan filter. It sees dirty words everywhere.

Well thats to prevent people getting around it by spelling it out with spaces and such.

if you cant figure out how to kill someone without needing to chain stealths together it may be a learn to play issue. at the point where you are needing to hide 3x in a row you already lost and are trying to reset and get a second chance. sad to say you may get downed once or twice because you are forced to play instead of hide.

thieves have all the tools to win almost every 1v1 fight vs any profession even if they are able to see you for 3 seconds.

Except builds that rely on stealth damage exist (intentionally so) and builds that use stealth as a defensive mechanic exist (intentionally so) yet others don’t get locked out of there main rotation or defensive skills because they used one, they can happily chain together their cooldowns until they’ve burnt them all.

Again, if they want to fix specific problems they should fix specific problems not blanket nerf.

I can guarantee that even if they do nerf stealth the majority of people who complained on these forums about stealth still will complain due to still not having learnt that stealth isn’t invincibility and instant death to all.

problem with MF is that what it effects the most isn’t what people want.

It will greatly increase things you get commonly but rare things will still be rare due to the base chances.

Something with a 20% drop chance (blues would fall in this sort of range I’d say) with 200% MF is then 60% drop chance, while a 1% drop chance item (rares I’d say at best would reach that) would still only be 3%

And drop rates are actually much lower bases than that, it still gives you more chance than non MF users but its not going to have you swimming in them

the listing fee’s are there to help the economy, removing them would remove one of the biggest gold sinks in the game and this ruin the economy.

Also people don’t like p2win games, while you already can exchange real money to gold its at a rate that limits the amount of people that end up as clueless level 80’s who just used a credit card to get there.

Unfortunately this would result in certain overly powered combos, most probably only on a few classes.

I’d rather they improve elite skills, shorten cooldowns or buff up power of them and introduce more of em.

thats specifically made cutscenes, in EQ2 your characters had expressions during normal game play that you could manually change with /commands.

I don’t think GW2 has the base coding to allow for that let alone the SoEmote style system

tbh I can see them all working well together

What it comes down to is a) what you want to play and b) what situations you want each of your to cover.

Going double ranger for instance will work nicely, 2 pets, 2 sources of damage but you’d be limited to ranger support for those times that you’d struggle.

Ranger/Guardian would allow for a Tank/Dps combo with a variety of support options, Ranger/Ele would allow for a Tank/Dps/Heal combo in pve as elementalists can get rather tank and can also support the rangers pet tanking with the heals and such.

I don’t think its fair that hard core players who do Guild missions, fractals and such get all the ascended we Caucasus who only have time to do our dailies and get laurels – don’t. That is to say I think all ascended items should be able to be bought from laurel vendors.

If ascended gear just had infusion slots and didn’t have different stats than exotic gear, I would agree. The fact is that they don’t. And they are the only gear you can’t get by playing the way you want to play.

The whole thing is idiotic and is counter-intuitive to the rest of the game.

I don’t care if they sold for 100g on the trader, they should at least be there just like legendaries are there.

There already is multiple ways of getting some of the gear, the main way is by laurels which are generated over time by basically doing what ever, that fact alone is a bit of a kitten for those who are actually trying to use it as it was intended only to find only 1 slot is actually given by doing the content its needed for alone.

Yes it gives slightly more stats than exotics but not so much that kittening because you don’t get it for free is valid, it doesn’t prevent you from doing the content you want (unless the content you want to do is what it was designed for in which case you have to do other content first to get it before progressing)

A full set will give you maybe 4% crit rate or a marginal damage increase per hit, if your fighting exotics vs ascended the difference will be negligible.

fully upgraded and full max infused will all the ascended gear you gain 92 (62 from ascended items +30 from 6 masterwork infuses) to your major stat and 30 to your minors, thats not a huge difference for the cost it takes to get that level of boost (the max infuses for the +30 to a stat choice alone costs a load in passion fruit bits)

Last Refuge Use Blinding Powder when your health reaches 25% (90-second cooldown.
Descent of Shadows Release blinding powder when you take falling damage. Take 50% less damage from falling.

Instinctual Response Use feathers to blind and stealth when you take more than 10% of your health in a single strike. This effect can only trigger once every 60 seconds.

Now we have Traits that gives us 3 second reveal debuff every time we hit 25% HP, or fall down, or on hit.

Hip hip Hooray for 3 useless traits now!

unfortunately this is what happens when you hear a few complaints about a few specific things and then blanket nerf an entire mechanic because of it rather than fix the specific problems.

the main issue is how often the events run, I have never been overflowed in Maw, it happens every 30 minutes so more people get it done through out the day, but claw is almost always in overflow as everyone on the server (and guests of course) crams in at only a few points in the day every 3-4 hours.

Make em all happen more often will allow people to spread out more rather than having to focus on only 3-4 times a day.

Couple that with account locks on chests so that once you’ve fought back the world boss for the day you can’t log an alt to get the loot all over again (thus keeping the population at the next one high)

amulets and accessories currently can’t be upgraded I believe.

Back items you have 2 choices, farm fractal tokens to purchase a fractal capacitor and then upgrade it to ascended (and can then further upgrade it to have innate +5 AR and then once more for a fairly nice skin) or if you can craft a quiver (offensive) or book (defensive) with a vial of condensed mists essence, 250 t6 mats (which determines the stats), 50 ectoplasms and 240 philosopher stones (24 skill points)

rings are upgraded by putting them into the mystic forge with 1 Shard of Crystallized Mists Essence, 3 Glob of Coagulated Mists Essence, and 5 Vial of Condensed Mists Essence

They will then be <Ring name> (infused) and have 5 AR on them before you slot a infusion on, note that any infusions slotted before upgrading the ring will be lost

It would be even better if it was just a counter like karma or gold, accessible through the hero window.

That could work too, but then you’d have to keep track of 9 separate additional currencies, which could get a bit complicated.

would be easier than the item one, as it would all be one stacked number rather than a number of stacks of upto 250 in a slot somewhere.

The fact that you think invisibility = invincibility is the core problem with your arguement, Good players know where the thief is moving 90% of the time, this means that for the most part they will still be hitting said thief.

Invisibility is a defensive and offensive move, but it is neither invincibility or a replacement for actual damage reduction.

Claiming stealth is better than an entire tank guardians defensive set is ridiculous

This is fixing it?
Combo fields are not just for the thief. If a warrior savage leaps through your field towards an enemy and gets stealthed. That is Supposed to happen. It’s part of Cross-Profession-Combo’s. You’re suggesting a breaking down of team-based mechanics for an individual problem. So you’re suggesting a Cool down on CnD upon success? That discredits it from the initiative system for weapons the profession is based on.
This makes actual sense as a fix instead of arbitrarily putting limitations on skills themselves and without discrediting the Smoke Field. You get, 3 or 4s of Stealth as a “break” from your enemies. At which point it’s fight or flight. Make a choice and take initiative (pun intended).

A warrior jumping through smoke field getting stealth yes, if he turns around and jumps through it again it counts as an attack so instead of stacking it he gets revealed.

The CnD fix is the harder one, cooldown probably wouldn’t be the way to go, but maybe on use it could give a debuff that prevents it doing any damage a second time, so you COULD CnD spam, you just wouldn’t acheive anything beyond being invisible and being invisible while not actually elminating anyone means your not just useless but more vulnerable.

These where just examples of ways to fix problems without blanket nerfing things

what pve encounters can be cheesed with CnD spam exactly? open world mobs around the place? most people can and do just run past them anyway, bosses? well your not really going to acheive much if you spend all your time stealthed, dungeon mob skipping? doesn’t help if your the only one that gets by.

Theres maybe one or two passages outside of dungeons where you could potentially get away with CnDing through, but its not like you can just keep doing CnD on the same mob, stack up an hour of stealth and instant kill things with it, however there are time when shadow refuges extended stealth comes in handy, or where you may need a few more seconds of stealth thus burning a limited utility and such.

And you know what? even if they do those changes people will still complain, people will still claim its overpowered, people will still get cheesed.

Granted this is true for all changes but this would currently be just a straight up nerf to a profession rather than fixing unintended side effects, something they’ve claimed a fair few times they wouldn’t do.

I mean I wouldn’t even mind if it WAS just fixing the main “problem” area’s, such as preventing combo field abuse (have it so comboing counts as an attack thus revealing you) or overly spammy use of cloak and dagger (find some way to prevent cloak and dagger being used imiediately after stealth ends naturally for instance or remove all/most damage from it so the thief isn’t actually acomplishing anything) its the fact that its a blanket nerf to combinations that were not that strong for the cost or other stuff.

A lot of this is going to not only cripple some thieves in pvp but many pve thieves.

Also the lack of stacking stealth makes shadow refuge useless, sure fixing being able to stack it via spamming attacks through a smoke fields maybe worthwhile doing, but stealth doesn’t last that long regardless and the majority of times of letting stealth fade and going back into it is for escape rather than assault in both pve and pvp.

If these changes go through without a LOT of discussion and some boost or things given back to us then I’ve lost all faith in ANET and their dirty dirty lies.

Watch the interview.
Hear when they say they want thieves to be better in team fights and think we are too weak in that department.
Hear where they say we could probably remove more boons.
Hear where they say our mobility should be better and Eles are doing our job.

Buffs are coming our way, they’re just reducing the cheese.

Problem is this is another case of game developers thinking forum pvpers know everything and that everything in the game revolves around PvP and they think of doing changes without actually thinking about ALL the aspects of the games this will effect including things as simple as the actual skills being destroyed.

The fact that terrible people always think stealth is broken no matter what iteration its in just compounds this, take other games like TF2, people complained that spys where overpowered due to invisibility so they introduced tons of anti-spy specific stuff even though decent to good teams permanently shut down even the best spies anyway.

Sure I can see some things were a bit silly with stealth (aforementioned stacking stealth through combo fields which wasn’t exactly intended I daresay) but in general in pvp it was fine, even a little underpowered, in pvp it just took a bit of thought and learning (as it should, you shouldn’t be able to pop in to pvp and expect to never have to learn anything)

The lower health amounts coupled with the need to be in melee, the single target nature of those builds, the loss of other forms of defenses to utilize these, the fact that the main defense many of them need isn’t actually a defense against competent players (read: not you)

There are lots of things that a thief is limited from that a ranger isn’t, but thats because THEY ARE DIFFERENT PROFESSIONS, they are designed to do different things.

You do not roll a ranger and expect to tank like a guardian so why do you think you can roll a ranger and expect to damage like a thief?

basically the only ascended item that cannot be gained from laurels is the back piece, ascended back pieces are limited to crafting from scratch or upgrading the fractal capacity.

that said I wouldn’t recommend getting all your gear via laurels else you’ll be at it for a while, start with the amulet first once you hit level 10 fractals do your daily maw constantly for rings while you work on accessories with laurels again.

In the process of going 1-10 you should find the mist essence to create the back pack (or enough fractal tokens to get capacitor) by time you hit 20 you should be able to get around 20 AR (not a total reduction but enough for it not to be deadly) and start work on upgrading your rings and back piece while you go for your next accessory.

but if you’ve invested that much into condition damage and then you main shortbow then your sort of doing something wrong, cluster bomb is not sufficient for stacking bleeds (unless at pointblank range) which would mean all your condition damage comes from that poison of doing a few hundred a tick. That said you’d still acheive way more damage from cluster bombs as you would still be doing initial burst damage (you’d be looking at least 600-800 damage from it with no power increasing gear)

Poison as a damage source is not viable, poison as a CC move in PVE is not viable, it is in its current iteration basically just a throw away condition that happens in the course of your other sources of damage that wouldn’t be missed by the majority if it stopped doing damage/only got applied by intentional moves.

100 Power vs 10% critical damage

There is a way to calculate your effective damage, all that is done here is we remove armor ratings, weapon damage and skill multiplier from the equation as they are not influenced by your stats and can be considered a constant.
Your damage is calculated by this:
(Weapon damage (WD) x Skill coefficient (SC) x Power (P)) / Targets armor (A)
We turn this into:
(WD x SC/A) x P
Now you only have to take into account your power.
Now to calculate your average damage you need to make an equation that introduces critical chance(CC) and critical damage (CD)
They will be used as a multiplier value instead of the percentage value.

P x (1-CC) + (P x CC) x (1.5 + CD)

For your stats it would look something like this (i’ll assume 1000 weapon damage as you did not give your power specifically).

(2000 * 0.5) + (2000 * 0.5)*2 = 3000

Lets check +100 power

(2100 * 0.5) + (2100 * 0.5)*2 = 3150

And let’s check +10% crit rating

(2000 * 0.4) + (2000 * 0.6) * 2 = 3200

Conclusion : In this case +10% critical chance is better than +100 power.

*Note: this is not very surprising if you know that for each 1% crit chance you need to spend 21 precision. A better comparison would be 10% crit and 210 power. In this case power would be the best.

*Note2: this only calculates average damage, it does not take into account how much damage you would get from ‘on crit’ sigils for example.

but thats not a random number generated thing, there is no random number generation determining whether you manage to hit your enemy or not, if your failing to get a tick of healing from signet of malice then your failing to hit your enemy.

That is not because of a random number, its because you did something wrong and failed to hit your target.

If you DONT like healing off your target (which putting a cooldown on wouldn’t stop you missing heals if your missing hits anyway) you use THE OTHER HEALS.

Next I think our skills damage should be increased but have cooldowns on them instead of using initiative.

No this is just bad, its bad enough that the on crit/hit food was somewhat nerfed for thieves and that most on hit things aren’t as effective on us as they really could/should be.

The signet is fine how it is, it works just how its supposed to, if you want bigger on use heals you use the big on use heals, if you want constant healing while you attack rapidly or small burst healing while keeping a burst of healing ready you use signet.

And theres no RNG about it, you heal for every hit you land, landing hits is not a matter of RNG

Lol. You guys give flak to people for complaining that we can’t see the thief, only know they are there, and how we should be able to guess correctly when you are going to use skills that are instant cast and give no indicator.

Yet here you are talking about how hard it is for you to get away from someone while stealthed. You know what AOEs each class has. You can see them and they can’t see you. You can dodge roll, shadowstep, etc. while stealthed.

If you are dying while stealthed it is because you didn’t react to that Whirlwind, etc., waited too long to stealth against that class with a channeled attack, etc.. You can at least see those abilities when they are used.

And yet you seem determined that no one can ever predict how someone is going to move in certain circumstances or that other classes don’t all have instant moves.

If stealthing to run away theres a good chance you’ve already burnt the rest of your survivability toolset (which will most likely be only endurance, condi removal and shadowstep if that)

If someone knows your condition (read where not AFK when you decided to run away) they will often know at least the general path you will be taking to escape and drop anything they can there.

Stealth is potent, but its only as potent as the enemy is incompetent, the moment the enemy knows what their doing 3-4 seconds of invisibility hardly hinders them.

scorpion wire is good for splitting/grouping mobs, signet of agilities group endurance fill and condition removal etc etc, basically all the utilities that aren’t just personal damage/mobility are actually great group utilities in certain circumstances, if you actually want to support your team fully you’ll be switching utilities almost every other set of encounters.

Well… Choking Gas + Lotus Poison (Deadly Arts 15) = Amazing.

People really underestimate the damage that poison deals… With an average amount of condition damage it will do ~234 DPS. Combined with the fact that Choking Gas can apply it to multiple targets within an area that can be 1170+ DPS (The poison lasts for a decent amount of time and if targets move into/out of the field it can allow more than 5 targets to get poison applied to them)

Sure it’s not the 25 Bleed 2950 DPS (14750 DPS if on 5 targets) , but the 25 Bleeds can only really be done by D/D and in melee range (Even with the evade during the animation there’s time where you’re vulnerable to being insta-gibbed)

hmm not sure what your counting as “average” even with 1k+ condition damage your only just going to be pushing the 200 mark (with 984 it hits for 184 damage a tick), to hit the 234ish you posted you need 1500 condition damage, thats not average thats top end amounts utilizing atleast full exotics and some food/consumables.

For a duration stacking condition its damage is just so minor to the point where if it wasn’t something that gets applied as a matter of course im sure most people would never use it, the only few real saving graces for it is how common it is, that it can be combo’d with stuff like lotus poison to gateway to something more useful or for those times where reducing the targets healing comes in handy or to buffer any other more damaging condition.

ahh true, yeah faction armour tends to be just for the skin rather than stats.

how’d you get that their armour has condition damage? they only have nearing 300 condition damage, that should be around the base amount for that level.

there are lots of ways to protect yourself for 3-4 seconds/make it hard for them to get into that position in that time, theres ways to prevent them escaping with a bit of prediction (its less luck and more processing the situation to calculate what routes they will most likely take, this sort of behaviour is needed against every class and every game in pvp really) and so on.

I’m a Thief and actually never died to another Thief hitting me even close to that hard even when they catch me first and unload everything before I’m able to roll away. I’m not full zerker though.

He’s a full GC Ranger. He made a post the other day complaining. Pointing out the obvious that Thieves make better GC than a Ranger. In full groups or larger situations GC rangers are fine but he’s trying to play a very group dependent Ranger spec on the small scale and QQing. Rangers have easy access to protection and haste things that just beg for some toughness while still allowing decent damage. OP needs to L2Spec for what he’s doing.
