Blood Magic is not only more viable, it’s probably the most fun line. The things you can pull off with a flesh wurm + transfusion are pretty great.
I’m pretty curious what metrics are used internally to say that something is doing well.
I would love to see some of those staff changes, so it actually feels like a weapon which hurts things, and not something I swap into just for sigil proccing and chill+transfer+fear.
Your mark system looks more like an ele staff. But everyone knows that’s a terrible class+weapon combination, so I’m not sure how well that will go over… :X
Huuuuuuuuuuuge +1. Blood Bond and Transfusion are my fav parts of Blood Magic. And I really, really like the feel of Blood Bond when it works correctly. I just wish it did more often and for more stacks to help team dps in a “necro flavor” kind of way.
That master trait:
Did Berzerkers just get a better Death Shroud?
Without an icd? Yes.
Going into Berserker mode has a cd, therefore the trait has a cd (which is longer than either of the shrouds).
That healing trait that saves from death… Full adrenaline it’s:
- 8k heal, equivalent to consume conditions with 4 condi
The berserker adrenaline bar didn’t look like it has 30 adrenaline. It looked more like 10.
Meant to Warrior
Meant to Guard
Chronomancer target practice
I kid, I kid. Nothing’s felt as satisfying as a NCSY -> Executioner Strike through a blocking Guardian to splat it.
Please don’t overnerf
Reaper’s Onslaught reducing the cooldown for TransfusionSpiral is one of those things I really, really, really, really, really want to play with in the next BWE.
While I’m all for that, if the ACTUAL cast time (cast + aftercast) for Lifeblast was what the tooltip said, it would be incredibly better.
If you fix the currently bugs I’ll marry you.
I thought we wanted him to fix the bugs?
Someone seems angsty. This isn’t good for your blood pressure. : (
Reaper felt like it had more than enough stability. If anything, I would prefer more stab on normal necro (outside of FitG), rather than a defiance bar that breaks to cause 25 stacks of vuln and a stun for 2 seconds.
Plus, if we got some sort of defiance ability, it would probably have twice the cast time, half the effect, and only work “well” if there are 20 targets around /NecrosarcasmOff
With no massive aftercast, it would be great as-is. If anything, I would want it to follow me as I move like an aura, but that’s wishful thinking.
Sustaining burns at 2-2.5k in shroud and putting up 12 (tooltip says 11, but is wrong?) stacks of poison (for 4s each) from Reaper’s Swirl is pretty nice.
Greatsword and its traits (and shouts to a slightly lesser extent) seem fantastic against lots of enemies: tons of lifeforce, gravedigger rotation, Soul Eater actually being a noticeable reducer of the other cooldowns (and you want to be using nightfall as muc has possible). But it’s lacking versus one enemy, and the auto attacks are almost an afterthought. Nightfall is the coolest ability on the GS. Gravedigger feels lacking, especially with the aftercast; I feel like the very long aftercast isn’t taken into account for the skill being an (almost) chainable burst. However, I don’t feel like it’s that far off from a good feel. Maybe a 1s cast and 10% more damage?
Shouts, when running Augury of Death, actually don’t feel so bad when you get into a pack of things. The cooldowns become pretty short when you’re nailing a lot of targets. Suffer feels like too long of a cast for condi transfer and/or applying chill to a running enemy. NCSY actually feels pretty good on the whole. YAAW feels pretty good too, but not as.
Nightfall is 4 pulses of tooltip damage, so it’s actually good dps if you can get something to stay in it long enough.
Gravedigger aftercast is pretty long.
Auto attacks feel very weak for the cast time.
I suspect GS is going to be weak when foes are above 50%. And if not it will be better to do a dagger + greatsword rotation until 50% where you can start spamming gravedigger.
So instead of spamming 1, you spam 2. Zhaitan!
I don’t see why any of those has to give. If anything, I’d say axe and staff need improvements for ranged viability.
I would prefer higher damage, less recharge, a higher % recharge return on Soul Eater, and a lower cast time as much as everyone else, but the idea that you can cast “literally nothing” in that window is incorrect.
I don’t understand why gravedigger was nerfed. It already did less DPS than dagger auto attack with 100% cooldown, why give us a clunky second waiting period between? There’s literally nothing you can do with that time.
You can cast half a CttB!
Or any of the shouts. Or Death Spiral. Or Nightfall. Or Grasp of Darkness.
The blindness on Nightfall also went down to 2s per, but the interval of pulses went to 2s from 1.
Grasping Darkness (was Reaper’s Grasp) GS5, now causes 3 stacks of poison for 4s, instead of 1 for 10s.
Terrify now has a 1/2s cast time, down from 3/4
Third part of the RS1 chain gives might from Reaper’s Might, not the first 2.
Gravedigger hits 5 targets.
Rise has a 1s cast time, down from 1.5

IT IS NOW, OK? >:|
Necro looks terrible all of the guys were destroyed . Funny how on last one bold guy with necro vs guard that was avoiding Gs attacks…….Reaper is crap GS easy avoidable low dmg extremly low Dagger auto attak is 3 time faster and better base dmg Wet dreams of slow but hard hitting necro will not come to life and remain simply wet dream in delusional head
Since Reaper release I spent time farming getting ascended Legendary … and now I don’t even want to play gw2 ….. SO much Frustration from this class
We can openly say Necromancer is worst and most hated class in gw2
None of those people seemed to know what they were doing…
Maybe wait for the beta weekend before falling into despair?
Or… if playing Necro gives you that much anxiety, play another proff?
I think you’re all ignoring that Rise has been changed to a 1s cast from 1.5. Necro has been saved.
Looks like they’re pushing GS into the cleave weapon where Soul Eating (hitting multiple targets) will be important for cooldowns, kiiind of like shouts + augury?
Gravedigger was at 5 targets hit.

Necromancer can apply Confusion without Perplexity runes you know. You should try it.
I manage to apply every condition in the game with the exception of “Slow” on my targets without using Perplexity runes. It doesn’t always work due to the difficult nature of the application but it feels a lot more rewarding than -Interrupt-> 1.3k Confusion ticks.
All these lazy Perplex-o-mancers make me cry ):
Ho
ly
kitten.
Last time there were a few transmutation charges in the boxes given when rolling a character. So there’s that!
“Fed up heterosexual male gamer reporting in. Give me more of what I’ve been used to.”
I honestly give up. Axe is crap and everything else is nerfed to stupidity. Its not even that fun in PVE anymore. Its only good for the wells. I’ve been maining a Necro since I started the game but I’m done. I’ll try it again when Reaper comes out.
You should give other professions some playtime until more changes come about.
I’ll take a longer beta process that gets us a better product on release (and playing other things in the meantime) over having a release date that either continuously gets pushed or an unfinished product rushed out to meet an unrealistic date.
Not sure why you would expect a response before a beta build of elite specs is available. They’re still iterating on things. They have people combing the forums for feedback already, but that won’t be as regarded as what you can give once you’re able to play the changes.
(Not that I would protest weekly blogging updates by each designer on changes to things already previewed, iterations tried that didn’t work out [and why], etc., but that doesn’t seem to be a thing Anet does until they’re ready. And it would delay getting those things to us in beta form.)
I would rather see a lower cast time and cooldown, then a shadowstep style ability added as a utility or to a different ability.
+1 for the poetry of the last paragraph.
The biggest thing to keep in mind is the difference in time between what we saw of Reaper and this version of Tempest. Even the newest renditions from the WvW beta are old compared to what they could be playing with internally.
I know things look bleak right now (very bleak) [very, very, very bleak], but we’re seeing slices of an iterative process.
The really big waterfall moments will be the elite spec beta tests and the feedback-and-forth following.
Hmm yeah ok. Swear they mentioned something about new tech in the reaper preview though.
It’s probably a profession-switch button at login.
None of this is released; things can change.
Use these Tempest shouts as comparisons and ammo to effect changes in Reaper shouts.
Or keep bursting blood vessels.
Whichever you prefer.
+1
and 15 characters
1 second cast time would be great. I’d also like an ice field on it, so we can whirl through for some chilling bolts.
I’m not sure on the 2 minute cooldown, but we’ll see at testing.
To the guys like Falcon and Bhawb, why are you not posting videos, guides, whatever, to teach others to be awesome necroes like you? Really, if necromancers were on par to other classes given equal player skill we wouldn’t be pitied by pretty much every other class and majority of the PvP forum.
“I play PvP primarily (now) because Necro in PvE is absolute garbage.” -Bhawb, circa Earlier in This Thread ’15
That looks to me like he doesn’t believe Necro is on par.
The angst in this thread is real.
We’ve already seen cast times go down from screenshots of the last WvW beta. Clearly the devs are still iterating on these things. Reaper was admittedly one of the first elite specs they did (citation: Reaper PoI). They may have learned things as they created the others. Judging by the Revenant beta(s), they might learn things from the Elite Spec betas when those come out.
I completely realize that their communication to past balance issues hasn’t been sufficient. I completely realize that Necro has been bad in (hardcore? speedrun?) pve for a long time, with no explanation. I also completely understand that incessantly complaining about something doesn’t tend to make me feel better. And so many responses to anything being vitriolic doesn’t help our community’s outlook or recognition.
If Necro is no longer fun to play to me in this casual game, I can play a different profession or another game altogether. If anyone is this grumpy about the profession that they turn into another Gryph, I suggest you step back for a bit and reassess your reactions, emotions, their causes, and your options to be a happier player/person.
Still won’t take master of corruption, worst trait in the game and moronically designed.
You’re always a ray of sunshine.
You’re doing Grenth’s work, Salamander. +1
Mallyx with mace + axe and all the dpsing traits you can find does good condi damage in pve.
All the weapons and traits for power damage builds aren’t in this version of the Rev.
Change up the gear you start with, and the runes on the ones you get out of the boxes. (You probably don’t want celestial gear for pve, and definitely don’t want Dolyak runes).
The gear matches the legends given.
Mace + axe = Mallyx
Hammer = Jalis
Staff = Ventari (though could also be used for power builds)
Keep in mind none of the above are particularly strong power legends/weapons, so you don’t have anything to compare to your current zerker gear sets.
Definitely play around with the traits given; they’re not optomized.
Mallyx, in particular, has a lot of tricky and fun abilities to deal with situations.
Most of all, have fun
Keep in mind there are still a lot of missing weapons. The ones given with the beta characters are correct for the legends given. You get a legend swap to change up your utilities, too.
They don’t want you to buy skins.. they want you to buy keys for a % chance at a ticket scrap for a skin.
Almost three years lator now and still not enough scraps for a ticket myself, scam much?
Have you done World Exploration on a character or two?
Would you prefer they give you info they’re iterating on, so might be changed or repealed altogether, or give you info when they have it?
Relax.
Would you prefer they give you info they’re iterating on, so might be changed or repealed altogether, or give you info when they have it?
Relax.
If you’re wanting to do as much damage as the other proffs, you’re better off leveling one of those up, since their damage is a known quantity.
That being said, open world pve isn’t about only damage, nor is it particularly difficult. The new patch has made necro quite a bit more fun to play when killing world bosses, going through SW events, etc. so if you enjoy the playstyle you should absolutely keep leveling it! If you’d rather do more damage in melee and be more mobile with a greatsword, warrior is probably what you want.
My main issue with the Death Magic line is that it’s either a MM line and/or a defensive Shroud line. That makes 2 lines dedicated to Shroud, but the limits of shroud haven’t been repealed: signets won’t work through it (which kills some Signet of Suffering synergy), dark path could still use piercing and possibly a projectile speed increase, no utility skills available in Shroud.
I would prefer to see its defensive traits work more like Deadly Strength, giving something to you when you’re not in Shroud.
Unholy Sanctuary feels especially weak when it’s not saving you from a massive burn tick you accidentally grabbed with your Plague Signet; the healing isn’t impressive. I can’t see myself ever using it over Corruptor’s Fervor.
Corruptor’s Fervor, Shrouded Removal, Putrid Defense, Reaper’s Protection are all very good. Deadly Strength is decent.
Soul comprehension is both meh and boring : / Beyond the Veil is great for flashing Shroud, but seems to not support the theme of the line (“Stay in Shroud for as long as you can!”).
