well theres a list of reasons a blockable cc wont work.. immunity, stability, aegis (blocks) and as mentioned before: passive stun breaks. just time ur uppercut right when the enemy has less potential of avoiding it. mid-port (steal, infr signet) can help u doing so.

its hard to say this as i played s/d for 2 years but its vanilla now. the former meta (da/trick/dd) lost all its fighting potential with other classes buffed way above s/d. but if u do not own hot, s/d is a good choice with (da/trick/acro) if u want the best out of it.

  • Dancing Dagger is changed to Fan of Daggers, getting 60% increased damage, no longer bounces, gets improved projectile speed, and simply hits up to three additional nearby targets of the target hit. Additionally inflicts two stacks of torment.

i had the same idea a while ago. torment on dancing dagger is very good too. but the dmg shouldnt be much more then trickshot.

So in order to compete with the utility that d/p has, I have an idea to make it more of a viable choice.

Since dagger/pistol is able to have an initiation tool, daze on command and stackable steath, something d/d could use is a combo system between two abilities that might make it more on par:

Dagger/Dagger
4th abililty: Dancing Dagger- cripples and applies a mark for X seconds
3rd ability: Death blossom- evades and bleeds nearby foes. When targeting an enemy marked with dancing dagger, shadow step and daze your foe.
5th ability Cloak and dagger: simply increase stealth time and/or vulnerability stacks (to make having to be in melee range more rewarding, especially for glass cannon thieves)

thats a well thought idea. as stealth and spike arent thieves main thing anymore, he needs more shadowsteps. as this is the one thing making thiefs unique.
but u dont need to work the “marked” effect with dancing dagger just go with death blossom. simply make the chain skill of daning dagger work like infiltration signet to the marked target(s). but well, this whole thing wont make any attention to the devs i guess.

talking about pvp, the berserker is in a pretty good state now. u cant compare him or any other class to chronomancer, i dont think i need to mention why that is. but the berserker finally works very good competitive.

im not asking how to fight this broken spec. im asking what the devs are doing to fix it, and when. thanks though.

thing is, mesmer is a beautiful piece of work. i dont play mesmer myself anymore but i know it pretty well. mechanically its a deep sea of possibilities with an enjoyable way to improve yourself and well rounded by beautiful graphics. so, even as a thief main i wouldnt like to nerf mesmers capability but give other professions chances to counter the mesmer. cause right now there is no counter to mesmer, this profession covers every quality that makes others so special competitive and u can still allow alot of mistakes to take down very skilled players.

I can now switch out UC for bounding. I will still have near to full time swiftness and can garner the extra damage off bounding.

With Havoc mastery this gives 7+ 7 plus potential 10(bounding) plus potential 15(LA) percent more damage while keeping that vigor swiftness and regen.

this is exactly what im testing atm.. with acros mobility and cleanse s/d could use bound instead of UC. but if it comes to the roaming (which is s/ds main role) u will always look back to the dash

its clear that this patch adresses mainly the Sword/Dagger builds and i am not disappointet about the results. but with anet selling us the acrobatics traitline and embellishing trickery, there is a huge waste on potential in the particular traits.
if the S/D obeys and uses Acro and trickery, there is a obvious overbuff on swiftness and vigor.
expeditious dodger (no choice)+ pack rune (as well, no alternative)+ dash (srsly, no S/D takes bound)= 21sec swift on every single dodge. (and passive pack rune and active thrill of crime swift)
now about vigor.. bountiful thefts 10 sec vigor on a theoretical 20s cooldown is not great, but good. but now even vigor gets way overbuffed by feline grace (again, no choice) in addition. not to mention the buffed amounts of boonsteal now.
this doesnt seem well conceived… correct me if im wrong

See as ANet has no clue how to balance properly, I expect the reaction to be:

  • “WTF are they thinking?”
  • Laughter at the sheer stupidity of it all
  • Hanging head in disappointment at what used to be a great and fun game

They’ll probably:

  • Buff warriors and thieves unnecessarily
  • Nerf the wrong thing on ele and necro which end up not affecting them
  • Leave scrappers OP
  • Buff druids
  • Try to buff unused revenant legends
  • Make some elaborate nerf to chronomancer Moa that either does nothing or ends up making the skill completely useless
  • Remove an amulet or two because that’s the problem…

What they really should do:

  • Nerf all HoT specs. All need nerfed, just some more than others.

wow this was overwhelmingly realistic considering the changes all these years

never play other professions then thief so i had a lot of time to mess around with this. shadowstep or sigil of agility, impact strike or basilik venom, instant reflexes or pain response, assasins reward or upper hand, sigil of doom or sigil or corruption, runes of thornes or runes of advanture, sage or carrion amulet are the choices u need to make. this is the build i can play best as it has very high burst/sustain potential.

hey ur ideas are not that bad Kydar. this would give condition builds more sense. i recently thought of a change to Cloak and Dagger to:
Cloak and Dagger
Shadowstep and stab your foe. Vanish in stealth, leaving them vulnerable.

Damage Damage: 458 (1.25)
Currently invisible. Ends if you deal damage. Stealth (3s): Invisible to foes.
3 Vulnerability (5s): 3% Incoming Damage, 3% Incoming Condition Damage
Range: 900

to make d/d as rewarding as risky it is.

The build is very straightforward. Stay out of damage and spam your auras to stay alive/heal allies. Try and overload water when you or teammates are low. Try to overload air when enemies are low or downed. The other overloads can be used as stunbreaks, but you probably won’t get much damage from them

Cleanse chill as much as possible and avoid the middle of the fight. Don’t overextend, especially when a dh is on the other team

shouts and the passive aura on Elemental Bastion are already shared without needing Powerful Aura

thus if condis are going to be an issue, cleansing water is better team support as your shouts will now clear 2 conditions instead of 1

oh ok u right there. sad theres no recharge reduction on shouts.

now after these days i feel a little more confident and tried some ranked matches.
and i noticed (if there is no aids condi pressure) besides the auras support im not quite sure what aura to provide to my mates in what kind of situations. sure, if a (ancient) bowranger bangs his salve away or the DH tickles me with his LB ill use magnatic aura. and if theres a thief or rev ill try to time shock aura to counter the burst. but what do u know else about the actual effect of the auras?

and another question, do u know good combos with lighting flash for (wannabe) bursts or instant buffs/supports? (u know, to precast and finish with LF infight)

if the sage amulet had the stats like on gw2skills i’d consider it but as this is not the case and i am loosing more then half of my healing power it misses my point. referring stone heart.. ive seen some auramancer running this instead of diamond skin. but if ur running 13k hp only i think diamond skin is the better choice (as of the health thershold). only theoretical of cause, considering the heal and possible 60% dmg reduction.

Perhaps a GM trait should give access to stability, like 3 stacks for 4 seconds on something like a 10s CD. Traits like Don’t stop are completely overshadowed by Dash, in the DD line, at least that would make Acro useful against hard CC.

But that’s more a problem, due to how Elite specs were made to be that much more better than vanilla specs.

no thiefs no need stabilty and i really doubt they will ever get it. especially with bandits defense. either u dodge or break the stun but stability is not necessary.

in fact, the finishing blow got nerfed. a while ago, when u hit the downed with FB while invul. the charakter would just start a second fb (like the first one didnt hit). i duno if this nerf was intended

hmm if u only upload the beneficial situations u wont get the attention u are looking for. first, condithief hardcounters every revenant and there is nothing they can do so its like fighting svanir. the necros without lf and ranger u fight didnt even transf/remove your conditions but they could so the viewer assums theyre pugs. how u would get attention with your records would be: fighting good scrappers (not one who doesnt know elixirs) and eles, even dragonhunters are exciting to fight.
the thing is, good condi thiefs may want to learn sth from your videos but if u just show them getting the easy ones and eating leftovers they dont learn anything and just see what they do every day.

u get the right drift guys: no passive playstyle! thats exactly the reason i deleted every profession and play thief only. thief no need no new traits or anything, his setup is perfect. all he need is some fixes (LOS, cant move bug, death blossom fly, …) and improvements on his existing options like @tomwjd.8172 listed precisely.

when i read ranger bug i thought u guys meant his neutral form, when the ranger and his pet become yellow. but yeah there are 2 bugs u are right but as a thief i didnt bother about the the pet respawn. both need to be fixed (before adding another glider please -.-)

the problem is this “significant height by the end of DB animation” occurs even if u use it on even ground. i just confirmed it last match as it happened on henge (nifhel) onpoint. and it happened a few times today only in pvp. mostly nifhel and once or more times on legacy.

Hey i noticed already yesterday but i wanted to make sure how and when this happened.. So the weapon skill Death Blossom on Dagger/Dagger seems to put the thief in unintentional elevation sometimes if u use it on uneven ground.
For example: If i use DB on stairs or anything, i find myself unexpectly high above the ground and the fall animation start (raise arms and fall).
I had the feeling it happens on even ground too but that makes less sense to me and maybe its just too little uneven to notice. (for example close/far pt on nifhel)
I think its only infight too.
Anyway, u loose like a second while falling cause the DB jump puts u in a very high postition. Please fix soon.

-10% damage modifier when you have vigor boon.
-Pain Response only triggers when you have bleed ,burning, poison, or torment.
-Hard to Catch cool down increased from 30 to 45 seconds.
-increase base health to match the other medium professions.
-Add another master tier trait that will synergize with dagger offhand to give sword dagger and dagger dagger thieves some support. (Currently we have great traits that are in master tier but are rarely taken because of condition pressure in the current meta and the lack of thief sustainability…

Possible idea for the trait:
-“when holding a dagger offhand, gain a charge for every successful critical hit. After accumulating 4 charges, the next hit will steal a boon.”

-Revealed training on Deadly Arts line also removing one condition upon getting revealed. (To compete w/ panic strike trait)

your suggestions are unexpectedly good. some teamsupport and functionality will add him to a great meta choice again. wary about teamsupport? How about this:
remove endless stamania and repace it with a passive support trait like Assassin’s Presence, Empower Allies and Spotter. Example:

Nearby allies gain up to 25% endurance regeneration based on your effective level.
Interval: 3s
Radius: 600
Combat Only

Combined with your great idea of feline grace buffing allies, thief becomes supportive in its very own way.

Considering all the frustration and hate i see and all the flaws thieves have now is it a good ideato main a thief?

u shouldnt lump all thieves together. as i main a thief since beta and never got frustrated or anything about it. in fact its quite the opposite.
when i created my thief just after the beta, i wouldnt play any other class till 2015. when i started to put pve on the side and do pvp only, i created the other classes. not because i didnt want to play thief in pvp but to get to know other professions better and know what they do. after i played all the other classes for a while i found myself back to my thief all the time. i like the other professions too but none of them required such a improvisation and reaction then him. so i got bored of all the other professions and enjoy my thief in pvp every day.

Theoretically its useful, but in actuality: The skill feels very akward to use.Something about the animation, it doesnt ‘flow’
If I need an evade and can spare the initiative, I somehow rather end up with vault, since it also deals damage/opens a gap
If I want a quick denial of an attack, I rather use #4
I use it sometimes, against telegraphed attacks, that I have to dodge but dont want to waste a dodge on. Thats all.
Things would be different, if the travel distance was significantly increased, more like a withdraw. Or at least like an unhindered combattant. But that could also become too strong.

He is very right there. The reason it feels “awkward” is the pre-&aftercast. The aftercast is almost as long as the dodge itself, making u very vurnable (sry too lazy to check translator). But if this isnt enough, it brings u in a very bad position especially wielding staff making u need to spend even more initiative using 4 or vault to hit in range.

Pain Response is definitely another good option, I’m going to try running it. As for Shadowstep, how are you using it? The condi removal from that isn’t all that great, and the shadowstep is a bit of an over kill since you’re already running SB.

even with pain response u need shadowsteps cleanse but thats just a piece of the cake.
its mainly used for repositioning, if infight or not, delusion or disengage. u can decap far in 7 seconds from mid there and back on legacy. its even used for bursts if steal is on cd. not to mention safestomps, double stunbrk and the whole world of kiting.

As for the healing from Assassin’s Reward, with Sage Amulet it’s only ~600 heal, not 1k. But you’re losing out on 4k Vitality from Carrion and losing out on condi damage. Not to mention that the regen from Upper Hand has comparable healing in addition to the initiative gain. So while Assassins’ Reward isn’t bad, it doesn’t seem to match up to Upper Hand.

Ive been running upper hand first after the patch. because the iniregen delighted my eyes, just like yours. but then i realised how much dmg only AA+dodge is dealing and u really dont need the ini on evade. with assassins reward im never missing initiative as im using death blossom mainly defensive. Referring the heal: 501hp by driven fortitude + 597hp by assassins reward means 1.1k heal on every death blossom evade. as well as condicleanse and vigor. cause of pain response theres also 200hp/s by regeneration. 4k health from carrion is nothing compared to this. (and u still got 17k+)
Considering the damage, even with all this sustain u could do more pressure by getting the 98% poison duration and more attribute condi dmg then with carrion and scavenging runes.

Just curious, where are you getting more cleanse and healing? I have no problem with conditions thanks to Escapist’s Absolution (not to mention the fact that you’re also mitigating the application of conditions due to evades as well).

EA is fine on fighting dps or bunkers but its not enough for condi necro, thiefs and mesmer as they constantly apply mutiple conditions and when it comes to highlevel fight enemies will counter the trait accordingly. so i got the recently buffed pain response instead of instant reflexes (cause ur able to evade everything) and shadowstep instead of needletrap. shadowstep is not replaceble.

As for healing, my build is running the biggest heal we have: Channeled Vigor (if it were PvE, then you might get more consistent healing from Signet of Malice).

Yep channeled vigor is perfect and we can finally part agility signet from our hearts :P but what im referring too is the also recently rebuffed assassins reward (got back the power from like 2~years ago) in combination with the new sage amulet as this means 1k+ heal on every death blossom evade. (mind that the sage amulet stats on gw2skills are wrong)

As for a shadowstep, I think you could certainly swap out Bandit’s Defense for one and it would probably be fine. But it seems that a 12 second CD stun break with a hard knockdown is far better than a 30/50 sec CD stun break with negligible mobility benefits.

Haha im starting to think Bandits Defense is another unreplaceble skill espacially if u not running power havoc mastery and got brawlers tenacity. Nah but shadowstep in combination with sb 5 is what makes the match mate. its useful in so many ways but that would need its own thread.

well im not sharing u guys opinion about the other prof steals. the other skills offer a beautiful chance to counter the enemy, keeping every fight exciting. but where the thiefs needs the counter the most, there is none.
on the other hand thief needs to limit his abilites more and more to himself instead of group support so steal might be a good spot to place some (like healing seed).
