Maybe I just got lucky with 20/24 wins, but I found that you can help make your own luck in DB:

Learn the map. This is so crucial. It’s not large so know it off by heart. Know where to jump, how to drop down from the ledges into the tunnels, how to utilize the jump-pads to move around, etc.

Know where the power-ups are and what they do, as well as how to use them. AoEing a group of enemies chasing a teammate is very satisfying, as well as shielding when you get focus-fired. Same goes for health – know where they are and how much they give.

Know where your opponents are going and cut them off. If he’s running up in the tunnel then jump up and wait for him up-top. Drop and AoE as he pops out and he won’t even see it coming.

Be persistent. No matter where he runs, CHASE HIM. Be like a dog with a bone and don’t let go till he dies. Nothing is more satisfying than seeing them make a desperate sprint for health only to die inches from it.

Target AFKers. Sure, some people will tell you all about how it’s bad sportsmanship etc, etc. I say **** that! They came into DB knowing what’s gonna happen. If they walk away, they are fine with being slaughtered. A free kill is still a kill.

And lastly – stick together! Nothing brings enemies down faster than focus fire. If nobody is following you, follow somebody else. Typing is a waste of killing time, save it for when your dead. You probably wont be on the same teams enough to even set up decent communication, so just act.

Sure, you can argue (as casinos do) that the responsibility rests with the client, not the house. But the house is responsible for setting up the trap. And Anet should really reconsider this method for future events.

That’s like saying it’s the pub’s fault for you getting drunk and getting hungover because they gave you access to the alcohol. Or a motor company’s fault you got a fine because they sold you the car you were speeding in.

I’m not defending the gambling, but people really DO need to take responsibility. It’s not compulsory to buy boxes. It’s not compulsory to place bets. If people wanted to gamble with their money, that’s their choice.

Except gambling as a psychological disorder is compulsory.

In Miami, FL, where I live, our local casino is known to have arranged deals with nursing homes/elderly medical centers, where they cart elderly people and their pensions to the slot machines as “therapy”. And the older ladies, mathematically ignorant and bored, are robbed of their pensions.

Free will is actually a very illusory thing. Your brain is wired a certain way, and you are easy to manipulate.

They won’t get the highly educated people with no predisposition to addictive behavior, but they will get the ignorant and those with addictive behaviors.

Casinos are predatory, and the only reason they exist is because unscrupulous states make money off removing wealth from its citizens while occasionally concentrating a pittance of that wealth on a single winner. It’s not socially beneficial at all.

There is also quite a crisis with alcohol consumption. Just because prohibition is gone doesn’t remove the fact that a lot of violence that happens at later times of the day are alcohol related, vehicular homicide is closely tied to alcohol consumption, and you have a culture where alcohol consumption is seen as par for the course as a recreational activity when the amounts of alcohol we are consuming as a culture is destructive.

You could say the same with cigarettes, but when children and teenagers grow around peers who drink and smoke, and these activities have likely negative repercussions, the concept of free will becomes laughable. Most will learn to like these substances, and economies and businesses who profit off this cultural addiction are not harmless — they’re amoral. It’s one thing to consume alcohol as a culinary venture, but it’s another for clubs to sell boatloads of alcohol to impair the judgement of the patrons.

Nobody is blameless in this process.

If a person has a gambling disorder it’s not the games fault, nor should they take responsibility for that person’s actions. I recall a thread in Beta calling for the removal of spiders because the poster had a phobia for them. If a person needs help, it’s not the game’s responsibility so see that they get it.

Free will is an illusion? I’d rather say lack of impulse-control is becoming an issue with people trying to justify it rather than treat it.

As with your alcohol point about it being a cultural issue, is it the club’s fault for people wanting to get drunk? I myself went through the phase where you only consider it a good party if you got as drunk as humanly possibly without dying. Was that the club’s fault, or was it my fault because I was young, stupid and irresponsible?

The same goes for the gambling. They convince themselves they will win and end up risking more than they should, but they don’t want to take responsibility when they don’t. It’s a mentality issue.

Sure, we can paint the casinos and the clubs as the bad guys, but the reality is that the warnings of the risks related to abuse are everywhere, people just choose to ignore it.

I like your build, and quite honestly the condition removal builds are becoming more and more frequent which is one of the reasons I’m switching over ^^.

There are a few things I dislike though (mostly just personal preference things):

Agreed you freed up a utility be trading Balanced Stance for Last Stand, but the cooldown on LS is double that of BS. Also LS is triggered automatically, and (although it’s unlikely to happen often) it could be triggered when you don’t want it to, resulting in you losing out on Stability for the next 90s.

By trading in the boon duration for condition reduction, you lose out on the perma-fury (unless you use FGJ but that then costs you a utility slot) as well as perma-swiftness. While I agree GS is probably the most mobile weapon Warrs have and (as in your example) I can see the usefulness it can have, but outside of combat swiftness trumps that mobility (and lets face it, there’s a lot of roaming to be done in WvW). Also, Warr was my first main and I mostly played as a GS Warr. I’m honestly just tired of it.

And our team support seems to be in different directions – where my build provides condition removal, Swiftness and Vigor buffs as well a Weakness on enemies, yours provides Might, Fury and a Fire field. Mine’s more defensive where yours is offensive.

Other than that all I can really criticize is you have a lack of stun breakers from you’re choice in utilities (although you still have the 3rd slot if need be).

So like I said, I think it’s a good build but due to personal preference I don’t think I’d enjoy it that much

Wow, that’s quite the wall of text there, thanks for the feedback!

Yeah the Warhorn does seem to cover a lot that would normally need to be traited for, allowing me to amp up the damage output.

Agreed the 15 in Discipline is just about a must for WH, but seeing as none of the minor traits in Strength, Defense or Tactics are really that awe inspiring for the last 5 points I just put the full 20 into Discipline.

Will experiment with swapping SIO for some other utilities like Endure Pain as I have no particular preference to it, more condition removal along with a stun break on relatively short cooldown just seemed like a good choice.

I did consider Sure Footed, but I’d be lowering my builds efficiency somewhat (taking points from Arms means sacrificing the faster Adrenaline building from Furious and taking points from Discipline means lowering crit damage as well as either crit chance or sigil cooldown which negates the perma-boon) for a few extra seconds of Stability, so decided against it.

As for FGJ, while the extra Might would up my damage output, I think Frenzy will be more effective for the build over-all (as you pointed out, most notably for Kill Shot but also Volley for a quick burst) so I prefer Quickness over the extra 105 Power.

I like the suggestion of Leg Specialist. I’ll be testing out the damage gained from Empowered, if negligible enough I might just trade out for LS. Having 3 sources of Immob (#3 being from Flurry) seems like a pretty handy feature.

Events all over Orr can be failed – take the Temple of Grenth in Cursed Shore as an example. I’ve seen it failed countless times simply because players can’t keep away from the stairs and before you know Keeper Jones is as dead as an NPC can be.

I’m a collector, i just want to say i’m sad certain skins and items won’t be in my collections. If there was some way in the game i’d go for all of them, all the molten skins, all the SAB skins all the dragon bash skins, but as it is now over half the skins that are in the game or will be added will be unreachable in a few months if they aren’t already :/

It kind of kills my motivation to go for anything at all.

But..play the way you want to play. Right? Isnt that what we are told?

What exactly did you think that meant? I know what it meant because it was explained by the devs on more than one occasion.

Every game has boundaries and parameters. Every single one. There are no exceptions. Take away the boundaries and it’s not a game.

The idea is that most MMOs funnel you into raiding. Want to get the best gear. You have to raid. That’s it. Want to be viable, you have to raid.

In Guild Wars 2, the idea was that someone could get exotic gear just by doing events, or WvW. Hell you can jump into SPvP without PVeing at all. You can do dungeons to get gear. There are many ways to play the game. That’s what was meant by play your way.

And leaving the items they introduced as part of the game instead of removing them after a month or two will change any of that …how?

Well the boon duration also keeps swiftness up permanently if I’m roaming, meaning I can save the Warhorn for condition cleansing. Being able to have Vigor up is just a bonus.

Also with Fury at 100% means I don’t need 2 utilities (SoR & FGJ) so that frees one utility slot up for Fenzy.

But I can also see the perks in what shield offers, so I can always drop Warhorn for Shield, take points from Discipline and put into Defense for Missile Deflection, using Shrug it Off to (somewhat) compensate for condition removal, and still maintaining the boon duration.

Well like I said, it mostly comes down to numbers. Unless you’re roaming alone you usually won’t need to kill an enemy all by yourself, you’ll have allies with you that will also be taking a chunk of the enemy’s health.

Edit – that being said, don’t underestimate the damage Axe can do

Do you have a particular favorite? I’m leaning toward a longbow/axe/shield build, since it seems like it’ll be similar to my necro’s juggermancer build, but I’m not sure about the feel yet.

I’ve also notice a TON of WvW builds and nobody seems to agree on what’s good at what.

I think the reason for this is that, unlike PvE or PvP, there is no real meta. There is no “right” way to play it. Because more often than not it comes down to numbers instead of individual skill (unless roaming) it’s much less rigid so most builds can be viable, but everything has it pros/cons so there’s always room for improvement.

Armor/trinkets is a mix between Knight/Cavalier to get a decent-ish balance between Toughness and Crit rate/damage. Zerker weapons just for the extra damage

Runes are for boon duration, allowing for perma-fury and swiftness with SoR, as well as perma-vigor from Warhorn when needed.
With Fury from SoR I feel less reliant on FGJ, so instead using Frenzy for quick burst.
Condition removal through “Shake it Off” and Warhorn/Quick Breathing
Balanced stance for stability as well as all 3 utilities being stun breakers.
Piercing from Arms VII somewhat negates the lack of AoE and with Arms XI it allows for fast Adrenaline building.

Thoughts/opinions/suggestions/criticisms?

My personal opinion is that if you are trying to cover everything in 1 set you will most likely just end up gimping yourself.

I’d rather suggest you go for 1x power and 1x cond set.

- Axe 5 is inferior to the Thief version of the skill because it doesn’t reflect projectiles.

That is one of the major WTFs of the game, something we can agree on.

Actually it’s not a “wtf”. The thief ability is an elite. Our’s is just a regular ability.

I tried 2x sword but find the utility of shield far outweighs the benefits of off hand sword. Condition build is my main build. Pop signet of fury pre battle, arrive in combat with full adrenaline and signet recharged. Mending and Shrug it off for condi removal. Endure pain and block for sustain. Pin Down, Combustive Shot, and Flurry are primary offensive abilities. Leap for mobility.

When you crit with sword you have a chance to apply 3 bleeds per swing. 1 guaranteed from Sever Artery, 1 roll from Sigil of Earth, and 1 roll from Precise Strikes.

This build can be run with Rabid gear too. I tried it out, but I prefer Carrion so other condi builds dont eat you. In wvw I run a little of both to maintain a decent health pool, and crit chance for bleed procs.

Sometimes the copy paste doesn’t transfer correctly. So I was confused about something. You have a condition build with a 62% crit chance ? ….and 0% crit damage.

You gotta get out of the ‘big numbers’ mindset brother. His crit is that high in order to procc his bleeds, which will stack fast and melt targets. Crit damage is not needed for a condition build, and tbh if you have crit damage on a condition build then you are not min/maxing efficiently because those are wasted stat points imo.

Exactly. Also because of Tactics XI I build up Adrenalin real fast, allowing me to drop Long Bow’s Combustive Shot at full Adrenalin for max damage

Well personally I use my cond warrior just for WvW. Conditions are so rife there that only players with several condition cleansers will be able to continuosly remove the bleed stacks.

Also, longbow can decimate a zerg with it’s burns

So many posts seem to imply that the current system is just mindlessly DPSing.

How would a trinity system improve that? 2/3rds of the trinity was mindless DPSing and mindless healing. All 3 aspects just came down to perfecting a rotation and spamming it over and over. If the current system is mindless, the Trinity would be just as mindless. The only difference is the Trinity would highly favor certain classes, whereas only speed-runners favor certain classes with the current system.

If you want to tank in GW2 you can make a control-heavy class and use that, but instead of just standing toe-to-toe with a boss and mindlessly spamming the same rotation, GW2 has a more reactive system. You need to think on your feet.

Personally I like the idea.

They always gave the impression that the Elder Dragons are like a force of nature (primordial force I believe they called them).

Zaithan lifted a nation from the ocean floor.
Jormag shattered mountains in the Shiverpeaks an created inland seas.
Kralkatorrik created the Dragon Brand just by flying over the area and breathing on it.

Is it so hard to imagine them causing some destruction around Tyria? Or that their Lieutenants (none of which are even close to small) can cause some havoc in the different areas? At the moment it’s rather stale in it’s current form:

You see/hear the dragon flying around in the sky above, a few events happen, it lands, you shoot it, it dies.

And let’s not even talk about the fight with Zaithan.

Make it more entertaining. Make some dynamic events that are actually dynamic! At the very least create some DE’s where the dragons unexpectedly attack some of the other strongholds at random that then needs to be defended or something. I would love it if you were to enter the Black Citadel and see chaos everywhere after the Shatterer launched an assault there. Or to enter the Iron Marches only to be notified it’s currently being invaded, with DE’s popping up all over the place.

A shifting environment does not necessarily mean you need to mess with the Explorer achievement, but at least make it fun to to re-explore an area. If a heart is completed then it stays completed, and if a PoI is discovered is stays discovered. The objectives might change a bit, from gather A and killing B it shifts to rebuilding C and defending from D. PoI can be renamed according to what happened there, “Tower A” becoming “Ruins of Tower A”, etc.

The same with DE’s. Before the attack, one of them might be “Escort supplies caravan from fort A to fort B”. Fort A gets destroyed during the attack, so now fort B is short on supplies and some of the local threats are trying to take it over, so the DE becomes “Defend fort B”.

They have this vast, beautiful world they created and forces powerful enough to reshape it, the current state of the game seems like a wasted potential when you consider the possibilities.

When comparing the two Rune setups the difference comes down to 130 Power/5% damage/3% chance to proc an extra might stack vs 50 Healing Power and 30% boon duration (the Runes of Hoelbrak can be swapped out for Runes of Strenth as they both have the same stats on the first 2 Runes, meaning both setups have the 25 Power/20%might duration).

Now the extra bit of healing is really not going to have any noticeable effect IMO, and the chance to proc the extra might stack is so minimal that I think both those aspects can be ignored, meaning what we can compare is the 130 Power/5% damage vs 30% boon duration.

Now comparing the duration effect, FGJ and SoR have respectively a 45 and 54 sec duration on their might stacks on my build, whereas they drop to 37 1/2 and 45 on yours. So every minute I will have a constant 14 might stack which could spike up anywhere between 17 stacks (with the 5sec overlap from FGJ) to 22 (both overlaps from FGJ & SoR) whereas your build will run with constant 14 stacks and 2-3 second down time inbetween cooldown and recasts.

TL;DR – Over the space of a minute my Power will fluctuate above yours for roughly 15seconds and the other 45secs yours will be marginally above mine, neither difference being really ground-breaking.

So it boils down to 5% damage vs 2-3seconds duration on Vigor/Stability/Fury. I don’t think the damage difference is that much so it depends on personal preference.

Not rooted per se, but I could’ve sworn it was a channeling attack so if you move it’s interrupted so you have to stand still for it to be fully effective.

If not, my mistake. Haven’t played MH Axe in a while

Been browsing through some builds for Warriors both here and on Guru, came across 2 builds that peaked my interest.

One was a GS build focused around might stacking and boon duration through runes, the other focused on having warhorn as a support tool. Both ideas seem interesting to me, but personally I am SOOO tired of the GS so I tweaked the two builds around to combine perks from each.

Through increased boon duration and decrease on sigil/warhorn/shouts CD you have perma fury/swiftness/vigor with about 10 might stacks through combined use of warhorn/FGJ/SoR as well as moderate condition removal through warhorn with Quick Breathing , Restorative Strength and Shake it Off. Third utility slot I chose Balanced Stance for stability as well as a second stun breaker

Main hand weapon I chose sword over axe due to the axe 1’s 3rd chain basically rooting you, whereas you can remain mobile with sword. Also the bleeds stacking up will keep the damage going even when dodging.

Range weapon is optional, I just always prefer keeping one close.

Armor/trinkets are a mixture of toughness/berserker, the extra bit of toughness will never be unwanted.

Unsure over sigils on weapons, personal preference I guess as it won’t make or break the build.

Any criticism/suggestions are welcome

They nerf everything except Warrior and Thief. I dont know how is the team responsible for that but i know that they dont even play GW2. But i know one thing, an underpowered engineer can take down with the correct build an overpowered thief or warrior. So Anet mods and adms and devs and everyone out there i think you should learn with other games how to balance classes.

So you’re saying Engi beats War/Thief, but they should nerf War/Thief? That’s the exact opposite of balance.

Honestly i doubt they are going over every single ability and retweaking it for the purpose of balance. What we will most likely see is a blanket change across the board.

So im bracing for another round of nerfs, and having the Engineer fly under the radar yet again when it comes to getting the neccesary attention.

Pretty much. More people will leave the game or reroll after the grenade+bomb nerf, but the engineer community will continue without us. The devs will get around to overhauling the engineer eventually, although it might not be until late this year.

Well depending on how bad the upcoming AoE nerf is, I will be placing my Engi on the shelf until that overhaul takes place, and even then I might not play it depending on what they do. Will be sad really, because the Engi is the only class I didn’t find boring by the time I finished leveling it.

Why would there be a buff? As far as I understand they are nerfing AoE in general, not just for Engis.
