it is permanent.
it will be on a weekly rotation basis along with crab toss.
southsun survival will be on weekly rotation.
aspect arena will not be.
however, i believe the aspect arena will be back in the future.
we will wait and see how.
more points is earned if one actively aggressively kills or traps other players.
even more so if they continue doing so while dead.
2,500 is high, but still achievable.
it is possible, confirmed can get as you as you put in some effort.
unlike some achievements which are very dependent on latency and luck (crabtacular, sanctum spirit)
karka is fine.
it is meant to be OP.
otherwise, the games will not end.
anyone watched the hunger game movies?
do u remember
1. what happened to the girl who wandered off too far, and the organizers burnt up part of the forest to get to move closer towards the other tributes?
2. near the end of the game, they released huge mutant dogs to kill off the remaining tributes.
the ghost players in southsun survival play the roles of the hunger games organizers.
all is well, working as intended.
I would actually prefer if they ditched the whole spirit thing from the survival game. IMO it takes away from the actual gameplay a lot.
spirit game play is required or else the games will never end.
the survival game is fine, just some technical bugs need to be fixed.
perhaps through the living story, we will see more of those added to the core game, slowly.
huh? what do u mean? O_O
if u want to score points, play more aggressively.
especially during the first 2 minutes.
it is supposed to be a blood bath.
the more bloodier the merrier!
but those game breaking technical bugs mentioned by Forgotten Deus.1423 should be fixed asap though.
the problem lies with the players, not the games.
the games are fantastic.
the players who complain, are not.
they are currently beta testing a china server.
current system is fine as it is.
if u want free travel, then u will lose some time on loading screens.
if u want fast travel, then you will spend some coins and less time on loading screens.
Btw, this achievement is in no way comparable to Crabtastic (last one standing holding crab). It took me a few tries, but I got it done in a reasonable amount of time.
crabtacular requires one to be very lucky.
one can be very unlucky and does not get it at all.
2,500 points is confirmed achievable, just takes time.
a lot of people have no patience.
to gain more points quickly, one must play aggressively.
play aggressively, kill as much as possible, especially during the first 2 minutes.
after 2 minutes, play aggressively, watch your back too, kill as much as possible.
dead? haunt aggressively!
Do you want Ascended Gear to have changeable stats?
Yes? No? Why?
In the future, they will make Legendary weapons to be able to change the stats to all possible stats combination while out of combat. Why not let Ascended Gear change stats as well? However, the gear with the other stat combination must be crafted first before it will be made available for stats changing purpose while out of combat.
For example,
Deimos crafts a 1st Ascended Amulet with stats:
[Soldiers]
[Soldiers]
[Defensive Infusion]
This 1st Ascended Amulet has only 1 stat combo in it.
Deimos crafts a 2nd Ascended Amulet with stats:
[Berserkers]
[Berserkers]
[Offensive Infusion]
This 2nd Ascended Amulet has only 1 stat combo in it.
Deimos now combines 2nd Ascended Amulet into 1st Ascended Amulet via crafting.
2nd Ascended Amulet is destroyed in the process.
1st Ascended Amulet now has 2 stat combinations.
Legendary Gear will have all available stat combination, and newly added stat combinations will be added to the Legendary Gear too, since it is Legendary.
Ascended Gear will require stats combinations to be added one by one.
ANet, I am really kitten ed off at you for this. This mini game is too long, and the karka are too powerful, blah, blah blah.
I don’t give a crap what others say, this is the most entertaining mini game yet!
The ONLY bad part is that I only have 2 weeks to enjoy it.
it will be on a weekly rotation.
we all get to play it again in the future.
just to add my warrior to the statistics:
my warrior solo-ed both tier 4 kiel and evon’s candidate trials.
i stayed near the rocks and just cripple (leg specialist) dps them down as fast as i can.
sword / sword (both berserker)
rifle (soldiers, got it long time ago, did not bother to get a new berserker rifle)
armor (full soldiers)
trinkets (full berserkers)
not using dps traits also
0/0/25/30/15
Is it fun to do?
depends on players’ play style, personality, attitude, expectations etc.
really.
however, more points will be awarded to those who play aggressively, especially during the first 2 minutes.
The only issue im having is the map is too big.
well, it is the whole map of southsun cove after all.
but given
- the hunger debuff
- supplies only found in a few areas (blue house icons on the map, red house icons means karka infested area)
- ghost harassing, killing survivors
big map is not really a problem.
unless, somehow, a survivor stocked enough rations to hide in a very remote area, that ghosts and survivors do not know of.
which can be easily fixed if they hot fix the maximum amount of rations a survivor can stock up.
Plus one from me Zero)
IT"S THE BEST MINI EVER!!!
And u know actually what makes people not event think about complaning?)
Cheating is impossible…….why?!?!
CAUSE CHEATING IS SENSE OF THIS MINI!
Bless u Anet!)
Btw, weapon skins skins drops from survival chests?)
as for the achievements for this mini game, all should be achievable in due course.
i think only the desert rose back item has a rare chance to get from the chest.
@OP, you’re right! this is a bug! all tiers should have +chill duration!
it’s outrageous!
nuuu that would be over powered!
I think he/she is mentioning this because the lesser versions have boon duration. It’s been that way forever, although I always wondered why.
well, i think it is because it is bugged and they have not fixed it yet.
What bug? its says: +20% chill duration.
You say it should be 15%? why??
Why is this a bug?
2 minor sanctuary runes = +5% boon duration (support)
2 major sanctuary runes = +10% boon duration (support)
2 superior sanctuary runes = +20% chill duration (offense)
clearly this pattern is bugged.
it should be
2 minor sanctuary runes = +5% boon duration (support)
2 major sanctuary runes = +10% boon duration (support)
2 superior sanctuary runes = +15 boon duration (support)
In my first 2 games I had no idea what to do and I was ending with 10-20 points. After 4th game I have learned few tricks and now im getting about 40-60 points per game. Sometimes additional 50, if I win.
ooo thanks for the score board!
i update the scoring methods on the first post.
so do you play aggressively and try to survive? O_O
I got the 2.5k achievement already, I can advise you to be aggressive in the beginning, you have a grace period, even if you die, you will respawn near powerups and far from most people, so use it, and try to hit/kill/trap as many as you can in the starting camp.
Once you get out into the wild, secure some rations and find a few arrows, but don’t linger too long collecting stuff, go and find people to use the arrows on, otherwise you will loose potential points and waste arrows.
When you become a spark – collect collect collect. If the camp is empty, move to another where there are more of the sparks. Once you have at least 4, find a player and place trap 3 in a way that he triggers it. If you happen to spawn early and get lots of sparks, summon a karka in the camps, preferable if there are multiple players about. Use the light speed all the time to move about. If you don’t have 4 points and its late in game, use skill 1 on players, it’s still a trap and gets you a few points even if it doesn’t
do damage them. My record was 109 points in 1 match – without even being 1st.
ooo thanks for sharing!
i’ll attach this in the first post.
ooo how many points for being the last man standing?
If you’re after the achievements, I imagine the best way to do it would be to:
1. Do the “Hide” tactic first to get the last man standing achievement.
2. Once that’s done, switch tactics and be as aggressive as possible. Get yourself killed off quickly so you can kill off enemy players as often as possible as a Ghost. (This also has the side-benefit of speeding matches up.)
You might want to coordinate with other players so that a person who needs the LMS standing achievement is left alone while everybody slaughters everyone else to make matches go faster. Then, next match, another player gets picked to be the LMS and everybody else takes turns after that.
is there a last man standing achievement? O_O

Southsun Survival Regular (0 pts) – Play 6 rounds of Southsun Survival,You get a loot bag containing 1 rare
since we need 2,500 points for the achievement, how to score points quickly each game?
+50 Final Survivor
+5 Kills
+2 Successful Traps
+1 Scavenges
+1 Arrow Hits
what other actions gives us points?
whats your secret for getting very high scores each round?
kill aggressively?
killed by angry ghosts, continue to kill aggressively?
some tips:
I got the 2.5k achievement already, I can advise you to be aggressive in the beginning, you have a grace period, even if you die, you will respawn near powerups and far from most people, so use it, and try to hit/kill/trap as many as you can in the starting camp.

For the first 1-2 min I rarely get any kills, the real game starts when respanws get disabled. Here is some advice I can give you:
1. Don’t run to the front when the game starts, in all this chaos it is easy to end with nothing.
2. Instead, get to the nearest loot behind and try to get at least 3 arrows. Use them only if you are certain that you can kill the target with 1 arrow.
3. Be mobile, always on the move and try to avoid camps unless you really have to.
4. Place traps in places which cannot be avoided, such as gates, bridge etc. If you have fake passiflora, take the real one from the jungle and place the trap in it’s place.
5. Always grab as many ratios as possible, use them when your health drops below 100. Taking all passifloras at the beginning will make at least few players to starve to death.
6. In fights always use cover, and avoid open areas. Headshots takes a while to load and it is easy to dodge it if you can keep the distance.
7. Learn how to dodge karka attacks. With some practice you can grab supplies from camps protected by 1-2 karkas. However, it is very risky and do it only when you have no other options.
Vyniea.2054 posted up a detailed guide here:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/livingworld/cutthroat/Southsun-Surival-How-to-get-points/2481615
(edited by Deimos Tel Arin.7391)
it will be permanent on a weekly rotation basics along with crab toss.
i.e.
week 1 crab toss
week 2 southsun survival
week 3 crab toss
week 4 southsun survival
…
and so on!
hmmm anyone solo-ed it with a warrior? O_O
Easiest way to win southsun survival: at the beginning get all the rations you can from middle pile, run south east gathering every passiflora you see ( dodge roll the traps when timer hits 0, it actually works and negates damage), after the grace period ends, do the jump puzzle. AFK on top of jump puzzle and use your 5-6 rations to win 80-90% of the time. (it depends on if dead players kill the other players or another guy has more rations than you and hiding ina better spot)
hmmm is this still viable? i thought someone said they stealth nerfed the food rations so participants cannot horde too many food rations or something.
by the way, even though one may be the last man standing this one, one may not necessarily get lots of points, unless some changes is made.
at the moment, the best way to get points seems to be, playing aggressively, keep on killing players for points, until they kill you in ghost form, then follow live players to collect revenge notes and kill them too.
i dun see other ways to get more scores faster.
if stealth is a boon, then it would be affected by boon duration.
not sure how people would react to this.
stealth lovers rejoice?
stealth haters hate more?
mesmers could null field a thief’s freshly dropped shadow refuge and cancel it straight away.
(edited by Deimos Tel Arin.7391)
if they do come back,
please, stay for a month.
so i have 4 weeks to complete the new related achievements.
(i’ve completed the previous one. was tedious but still manageable with dulfy’s guides)
thanks!
is this possible to solo with a warrior? O_O
say soldiers armor and berserkers trinkets
I’ve got 196 points after 6 games in Southsun Survival. At an average of 32 points per game that’s 78 games I need to play for the achievement.
i read in the forums that ghosts could have better chance of getting more scores?
and more scores are awarded for playing aggressively.
i think a player kills award 5 points at least.
i think surviving players should get points every now and then.
maybe +1 points every 3 seconds tick?
that would be like 20 points per minute.
or … ?
I see people run past the passiflora’s all the time -_-
i think only very few (like 2?) shown on the map are real.
the rest are fakes. traps that go boom.
proximity mines, they are!
hmmm i never know there was a hunger games event in gw2 beta week.
anyway, this southsun survival will be on a permanent weekly rotation with southsun crab toss so it is all good!
thanks!
by the way, can surviving players see what ghost players type in /say chat?
First let me say this game is awesome, there are just three small things…
1. Karka/enemy NPC’s kill this game heavily. They one shot way too easily, just what this game needed more was to hate karka with more passion
2. Supplies. Supplies only being found in 3 camps causes players to cluster in them and it just isn’t fun. People just swing away. There is way too many people for only 3 camps. Either make supplies more accessiable outside of the camps or reduce player count
3. Spirits are outrageously overpowered.
1. karka near the borders are to prevent players from straying too far away.
dead players summoned karka is a revenge feature and is working as intended. if you killed a participant very early on, you should expect their revenge.
2. at the moment, supplies are only found in the right side of the map. i think this is to keep players in a small area. the supplies do run out though. i noticed the blue icon turning grayed out. i think it means no more supplies in those area?
3. i think the ghost system has a subliminal message. kinda like advising us to think carefully before we kill a fellow participant.
I bet Xilo is one of those that gathers as many supplies as he can, then he just goes and hides…. because yeah, saw those a lot today.
and hide in places where the participants (both dead and alive) will not find u.
because that is the most effective way to be the last man standing.
if you kill off too many survivors too early on, they will actually have a very good chance of collecting 10 revenge notes to summon a karka to kill you.
believe me, they will.
because they can.
Def subjective. Southsun survival is the best minigame yet IMO. I just wish it was permanent with leaderboards.
southsun survival will be permanent.
it will be on a weekly rotation with southsun crab toss.
i.e.
week 1 – crab toss
week 2 – survival
week 3 – crab toss
week 4 – survival
…
and so on.
Happy Southsun Survival! And may the odds be ever in your favor!
i have been asking for this feature (changing stat on gear) since 2006.
i gathered much support back in those early days.
but somehow in guild wars 2, people are against it.
strange.
my original topic:
http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/smart-armor-system-v3-0-t10071643.html
surely there must be other people who agrees that this rune is bugged and needs to be fixed!
this is a bug.
please fix it!
Keep telling yourself that
yes, i will. thanks.
please fix this bug.
congrats!
tis time for WvW!
bumping this topic up so that it gets read by people.
i think sea of sorrows has a healthy amount of oceanic PvE players.
Shouldn’t heavy classes have less damage than light ones? Just because they do have more defense in general? Gonnae blunt here, mesmers are only really picked in dungeon groups for portal, feedback, and timewarp. Warriors still hit higher than them and take less damage.
Does not make sense to me how Warriors have the highest dps in the game. From melee and range. If you really think about it, thieves should have the highest melee dps because they get blown up if they are even looked at. Rangers should have the highest ranged dps because they’re RANGErs. Warriors should be somewhere in the middle as the jack of all trades master of none considering how many weapons they have available to them.
How does this not make sense?
warriors have basic attacks while everyone else have something fancier.
it all makes sense.
an option to use the old login menu would be very nice.
