Part of WvW is run speed… Pretty large maps. I would definitely recommend runes of speed if you dont change anything else.

iDisenchanter and Null Field is kinda overkill imo. Although it is worth noting the iDisenchanter having 900 range it sure does like to get in around 600 for the first strike. With a condition build Id probably only be worried about regen for boons so…

Im not much of a condition build person… So take this suggestion with a grain of salt. Apothecary trinkets and weapons with dire armor? It really depends on if you are trying to hit specific numbers…

One other personal preference would be swapping a sigil of geo with sigil of doom. Definitely look into runes of speed or runes of the traveller (runes of centaur if you use mantra heal).

Stun/Daze Duration

Daze, Stun are NOT Conditions, They are Control Effects.

Sigil of Paralyzation increase ONLY Stun duration.

Pure teoretically Mesmer Daze effects with CS and 6xRoM, should last around ~1.60 Seconds (If including all theory of its lasting duration)

I never realized there was a difference… Would make testing Daze duration easier. Why the hell did Anet list Fear and Immobilize as a condition and not a control effect… Nope Fear is listed on wiki as both condition and control effect. I’d run the same test with condition duration included.

Well this is the only other thing I will add to this conversation since it really boils down to playstyle preference. I run a phantasm support build cuz im not elite, I can and have run EM blah blah blah not so good experiences with the randomness of PUGs.

EM builds
Pros
25% personal damage (16% + 9%) Honestly its more like 21% but w/e
15% phantasm damage
10 more trait points = 100 precision + 10% crit damage

It gives slightly more control over the damage you do since the phantasm damage difference between builds is only 15% (15% with EM build, 30% phantasm build). Phantasms attack as soon as the timer is up, blocking, boons, it doesnt matter, they are AI.

Cons
Utility skill with 2 charges… Then damage reduced, then long recharge.

Blurred Frenzy and Auto Attack… depending on the fight. Like CoE runs (as boring as that dungeon boss is) then EM ftw. Edit: There could be examples probably fractals where i would prefer a phantasm build so that is just a perfect example to run an EM build.

Really I don’t care what people run. Mantras are part of my support build and I’m used to them. Much more useful then any signets I’ve ever seen. Although I haven’t toyed much with the new signet healing skill in PVE. But it seems like overkill to use it at the beginning of a fight… an extra 3 maybe 4 phantasm attacks? If they make it through the initial boss attack rotation. Ehh not for me but again i wouldn’t complain either way.

Empowered Mantras seems great in theory, but in practice, I can’t get passed the 2.75s cast time and the fact that using them makes you lose the benefit. It kinda seems like a Signet Warrior (thematically, like how it’s meant to be an entirely selfish build, not on it’s merit)

Considering they added a group effect for mantras and that youre running a melee build so group stacking or close to it… Whats quoted is a trash statement. Sorry dude

Edit: The character attacks more often then phantasms. So you notice the damage difference. It really does help to have a static group though.

Stun/Daze Duration

I am not exactly sure how Daze duration works, damaging conditions round down to a whole second… My suggestion would be to test it out with the pistol 5 skill magic bullet. That has a 2s base daze. Then you would want to play around with where your duration is coming from:
Trait line (30 domination): 30%
Mesmer Runes: 33%
Trait (CS): 25%
Mix Other bonuses
Food (Koi Cakes): 40%
Giver Weapon: 10%
Lyssa+MadKing Runes: 20%
Sigil of Paralyzation: 15% (Pretty sure this only applies to stun now)

I would test generic condition duration then specific daze duration bonuses, and try to keep them to a whole number duration. So trait line + L&MK runes which should give 3s. Then trait line + Confounding Suggestions, trait line + Mes runes + Koi cakes, etc. It wouldn’t surprise me if some bonuses added and others were multiplicative. If I have time (and remember) Ill try it out but it wouldn’t be for a few days…

Warrior mobility

Why doesn’t Anet go the route of Elementalist Lightning Surge or whatever.

If the attacks do not hit a target the cooldown is doubled.

Although IMO the range is seriously kittened on Warrior GS. Or they could make the whirl skill like those Nightmare court guys and slow it down like 4X, that would work too…

More Counter Stealth Play

In fact that would be awesome.

Imagine the WvW. No more melee trains, no more zerg meta. Everyone would have perma-stealth builds so battles would be 80+ people randomly popping in and out of stealth with a couple of seconds of visible time (keep in mind all the blast finishers being popped in smoke fields!). Like a gigantic game of whack-a-mole.

The really good guild groups would probably do a 30-40 minute dance around each other in stealth until someone make a mistake in their skill cycling, leaving stealth for 1-2 seconds to be insta-killed. GvG won, 1 guy dead and everyone else fall back.

Really Really Funny! You obviously dont understand how many playstyles are available with a decent skill cap to a very squishy class. And it is just sad the only reason more options aren’t given to Thief is that Anet cannot balance stealth. Why is there no comments about Mesmer stealth abuse? (I only read the first and last pages)

Thief is by far my favorite class to fight against, good one are rare, bad one are common, and the fight is never dull. Frustrating? Maybe, time consuming, usually, but never dull.

Sadly most people don’t take the time to understand the mechanics.

Balancing stealth means balancing classes which is IMO whats driving this game into the ground. Fun fact the Dec 10th patch notes, all classes besides warrior had over 12 pages of comments on their class forum Dev thread while warrior thread had 6 pages. So either warriors dont post, dont read, or there are many many fewer warriors playing because they are certainly not overpowered. Weird that stealth is complained about so much.

Is “is comfortable with the mechanics of an encounter and plays and gears appropriately” an extreme definition of “experienced”? Nobody is answering this, I keep getting told that my expectations are extreme, but the quote is exactly what my standards are when I make an “experienced only” lfg. Is it unfair? And if so, why?

That is a legitimate definition. However knowing the encounters and plays appropriately is where there is deviation. I’m a casual player and ‘plays appropriately’ to me means if you are in a downed state then you failed, I myself blame lag… Just using ‘Experienced Only’ for a LFG is absurd as has been stated previously by you and others. Its like saying 6k AP or don’t join which is another silly standard. Be more accurate with the playstyle you are expecting. “Melee only speed run” you’ll get better results (and it still doesn’t mean people will read).

I run dungeons with pugs quite often. Since you mentioned staff Ill throw the build I like out there. 10/15/20/25/0 this offers the expected dps from phantasms and you have a bit more survivability to help with people that get downed. (Since there are people that can run GC and people who like to in pugs…) Its also easy to switch to boon support when you get those selfish signet builds in your pug. The same as any other build you’d run and want to carry an extra of each weapon.

Don’t bother with a mesmer condition spec for pve.

How would this work out, I am currently working towards full Cavalier’s trinkets, and due to resources (Laurels/Commendations.) those are a must in the build.

It looks solid to me, how about to you, guys/gals?

I’d go with Berserker or Assassins rings. 1.4-1.5k toughness has been good for me… Prolly go with Arcane Theivery instead of mantra as well. Thats really just personal preference.

This seems to be applied to clones. So a clone will get the reflect ability. And easily within the CD period the character will get CCd. Even though I was no where near a CC ability beforehand.

So it is a worthless trait at this point.

Here is my opinion. Swap Sw/F for Sc/T. The reason being sword has no condition application and you’re not traited for focus. For traits and focusing on support I’d drop the 10 Domination and pick up 10 more in Inspiration… Inspiration has many more support skills and allows more control then ‘kill my clones’ builds. Maybe try Inspiration II, IV, X and swap MoResolve for MoPain or iDisenchanter. I do appreciate mantras, from my experience getting inside the 240 range for small group fights is difficult.

IMO this outlines why PUGs are bad… specing for single dps then arguing against any kind of group support. + guardian flame > chaos armor for view obscurement. By guardian block you meant aegis right? Chaos storm generates aegis, swift, retal… “me on my warrior” this just made me laugh. Flat out over generalized statements Kudos!

If youre playing berserker don’t range with staff. Use it for melee support and defensively if you really need it. Because obviously those signet warriors will need the fury/might bounce…

Staff really shines when you have a condition spam player in group or people get downed frequently. Assuming you are speccing for Phantasm damage.

Mender's Purity and Mantra of Recovery

I really dont see mantra recharge as much of a downside anymore. And honestly from using them it has made it easier to see what is going on in a fight. Mantras build patience imo. Coming from WvW, if you think PU is addicting wait till after you get used to Harmonious Mantras with menders purity…

Don’t see how people can argue MP is a bad trait. MoRecovery > MoResolve, heals and shorter cd compared to aoe cnd removal. If you think MP+MoR doesn’t removes 4 mantras in 15s just admit you dont like mantras and kitten or pull your head out of your ‘sand’.

- Finally, consider the pistol or offhand sword instead of the torch for small group roaming, and decoy instead of mantra of stability. Since most of your damage is coming from phantasms, you really need two hard hitting phantasms to do enough damage. With all of your interrupts, the torch adds a bit less than a hard hitting phantasm. And between sword and blink, you already have a couple stun breaks. Instead, decoy will give you another and time to recharge your mantra

Yep gonna agree pistol is working better instead of torch. Still going to stick with MoConcentration though… 3 stun breaks, stomp, mantra recharge cover… Can’t give it up.

The reason I didn’t go with sword offhand is that better players avoid the one attack. And I find the 3 person bounce interrupt from pistol easier to use in WvW then the block/line daze sword ability.

Staff is more of a support weapon… Check out the support builds from the sticky. Personally I have never liked condition builds… Get close for the staff auto fury/might bounce?? Used to run 10/10/20/30/0 build with knights and zerkers, same weapon setup you mentioned. Id recommend running with a condition engi, necro or ranger then your iWarlock hits for serious damage.

Edit: I really have a hard time believing you spent the time and energy or money for a legendary you apparently know little to nothing about…

Thanks for your support. I have been running a different build for larger groups… However with those suggestions I may run this build for large groups too. MoDistraction is a small group skill, agreed. With the upgrade to mantras effecting group and the channeling toughness, great!

Recently I was playing with Decoy, the added stealth does help a bit. What I ended up doing instead is swapping food to Bowl of Orrian Truffle and Meat Stew which has allowed for a better shatter setup. Mind Wrack and weapon damage are the reason for taking Empowering Mantras. With the combination of Diversion/interrupts for vulnerability stacks then a Mind Wrack there is some good damage (very much the same idea from Osicat’s Tutorial II). The extra dodging is very helpful both with clone production and survivability. It would probably be easier to run it as a phantasm setup. I can definitely see a phantasm variation working, especially with your suggestions, however I was going for a shatter/interrupt hybrid…

Pistol does seem like an option for offhand and would probably work. Especially considering the lower CD even when untraited. One of the larger cons to the build are your opponents having stability and protection boons though. I have been running with torch since it is more defensive.

Mantra Recharging:
Stealth (Torch, Decoy, MI)
Instant, start recharge teleport for better position (Blink, Swap)
Stability, start recharge then stability thru recharge (MoConcentration/PowerBreak)

They are all viable options… I’m really starting to like having stability though.

Edit: The damage can be a bit slower… Timing and patience is definitely required. Originally I didn’t see this as much of shatter build, since there is no added profession CD, and more for utility. It is working out quite well if you can land shatters though.
Edit2: Empowering Mantras also effects Halting Strike (great for people healing)

Anyway, I love Bolt lightnings. Also mesmers doesnt swing the gs too much, so theveffects of a legendary are somoehow “wasted”.

The thing i dislike about HS is the chaining. If there is any lag I’ll end up with 2 or even 3 HS in a row. It is way to easy to start another HS before the animation is even close to complete. IMO That is what needs to change, the skill activation.

Hey Dekk, have you tried using Furious Interruption? It takes some getting used to but it really helps for charging mantras and milking more damage from the greatsword.

Well there are a couple of things to consider… Ive only been playing interrupt builds for a few weeks.
Anyway my experience with FI is that it needs a XII buff icon to be more useful at charging mantras. Usually running with 2 or 3 charged mantras the straight damage boost seems better to me because it effects shatter damage as well. Could be useful for stomping in 1vsX fights…

Just going to throw this build out there. Its about boon removal… And I’m on a tier 3 WvW server so the zergs aren’t super huge (haven’t had a queue in forever). Quite a bit of fun… supportive while removing boons, stacking vulnerability, aoe daze. Usually switch out iDisenchanter for different situations. And run a mix of bers/cav/valk gear.

You should check out the Builds & Guides thread. Mesmer is the most versatile class in GW2 and warrior is the most boring (IMO). However mesmer was probably the weirdest leveling experience until 40-50, then it really starts to get fun. Like many others have pointed out the popular utilities are manipulations and glamour…
Only other thing to add is GW2 is pretty unique in you can gear any class as dps or tank/anchor. And if you like playing support roles guardian or mesmer is king, not counting combo field group dynamics… And mesmers have the best boon stripping abilities hands down. good luck, have fun

I don’t see any helpful criticism, or follow-up commentary that is based in facts. Just opinion… by ‘trying’ you could just say i lost 3 fights and gave up. Its a different playstyle (interrupt/lockdown for the 3RD Time), not burst, definitely not a PU build which is the only trait worth taking apparently from your comments. The problem with mantra is you are wasting 3sec in combat. Maybe that’s too short for you but in wvw roaming, time is of the essence.

You have 5 interrupts at 24/24/45 CD. MoD with 5sec CD after using a charge. Im wondering if your landing 2/3 interruptions on fights and killing fellow roamer.

Right so with this build mantras are traited for 3 uses, its not a ‘problem’ with mantras. It is a game mechanic. And as I explained earlier there are multiple ways to guarantee successful recharge. It is usually easier to use torch #4 to guarantee mantra recharge. However there aren’t many builds that spec for interrupt, the stuns are just part of the rotation. Also I tried using Dueling XII – Furious Interruptions (for the 3s of quickness on interrupt) and personally I like the 4-12% damage bonus from Empowering Mantras.

This seems to be a comment of I cannot see this working and therefore will not try it, excuse me if you find honesty rude. Trust me lockdown builds are not easy, it isnt intuitive, you have to understand the other class you are fighting. The other lockdown builds I have tried also have the same issue of not being a gw1 blackout lockdown. I do not know what you are expecting exactly… Sure its 24/5×3(24)/45 and each are traited with Halting Strike, so its decent 1.5k – 4k for each interrupt. And it isn’t that hard to cause an interrupt. Which is why you use them for battle changing skills. Its played similar to a shatter build with the addition of watching/expecting skills to be used. And you would be surprised how many people falter when their keystone skill doesn’t work. However this isn’t a spike build.

If I’m wrong about the meaning of ‘landing 2/3 interruptions’ from the explanation above then please feel free to elaborate and explain how you see it working.

I will try and put something together for a video. However I don’t usually make videos so I doubt it will be very soon.

I tried a pure mantra build but got bored charging mantra’s.

Charging mantra’s mid combat is a big waste of time.
Without PU, those stealth are not enough to charge 2-3 mantras.
Illusions also wont help since they know the real mesmer.

A burst mantra build that wont require to recharge mantra in combat would be awesome. But that would require some serious reflex.

The idea is to interrupt opponents hard hitting attacks and healing… lockdown. Not spam your mantras.

You should be able to recharge mantra of concentration while in stealth. Start another mantra use MoC for stability. The timing works. Hopefully you aren’t blowing mantra charges when there isn’t a need. Can also use distortion for a mantra charge… Or, and this is a great trick imo, if the enemy has figured out youre using mantras (shouldn’t be too hard), you can fake them out making them blow a longer CD skill.

Sorry but this isn’t shatter burst.

eh heh well its really more of a jingle… You don’t need them to attack, its just more fun that way. This is a roaming power lock down build.

Note: The forums are always growing. Looking through the list of builds I did not see any matching this build. With recent changes in the Dec 10th patch I do not believe a similar build has been posted. Please accept my apologies if this is not an original build.

Contest Question:

There is a difference in dates (application or registration) between sections 4 & 5. Is the deadline for submission the 15th (section 4) or the 22nd (section 5)? Or what is the difference between build application and registration? Thanks

Well usually I run with Illusions I instead of X and swap iDisenchanter for Arcane Theivery. This is basically to fight guardians because iDE is getting killed to quickly. So between trying to keep distance and/or removing boons it is a fight… For some reason guardian aoe is kicking my butt.

Since I play WvW… Imbued Diversion has been quite useful for group/zerg fights. Also switch out the mantra for Null Field…

The thing I’ve grown to like about Disenchanter is that even if it gets to shoot just one attack before dying that’s still a bolt that will remove two conditions from me, allies, and two boons from enemies (and does some slight damage) for up to five bounces. That alone is enough of a payoff for smallscale fights, but in bigger battles I’d consider doubling up. I dunno your exact trait spread, but if you’ve got points in Domination, then grabbing Shattered Concentration, combined with Null Field, may be enough boon removal for you to push through with your lockdown.

Your build sounds like it’s more geared to being the team Disenchanter, which is rather cool. Having two utilities and shattered concentration invested in boon removal should leave you enough room to gear the focus the rest of the build on shatters but if the clones can’t get to the target in time to shatter then.. either yer gonna have to get a bit closer or consider if grabbing the Illusions Signet to ensure a payoff from your shatters (and Shattered Concentration) is worth sacrificing another form in of boon removal in either Null Field or Thievery.

How often do you run into this problem? and are you completely unable to keep up with guardian aoe or is it just somewhat difficult?

Oh I was trying something really close to this last weekend oddly enough, and then saw this thread. It is probably my inexperience, and im an average, possibly poor pvp mesmer been playing pve support until a month ago… With this build while roaming I do use MoD and IP for roaming. The timing is definitely different as I have always run with deceptive evasion and haven’t really used iDE. So I definitely think your build has potential. I’ll be quite now and let the Mesmer veterans discuss.

Hey, so I understand this a rework and considering past updates was looking for some advice. Recently Ive been running something similar with imbued diversion. Anyway, you bring up the point of too many clones.

Do you have any advice for phantasm/clone production rotation? And any advice for AoE intense fights?

What are the traits in your build? For me, having Staff with iCelerity and sword double-traited Blade Training is just enough illusion production for me to be able to shatter frequently.

In my experience with Imbued Diversion (skcamow has used it more often than I have) the two ways I’ve been able to make it work is with staff and either Deceptive Evasion (0/20/20/0/30) for 3-clone shatters or without it for 2-clone shatters. In either case I find myself often shattering the iWarden after it’s first attack. I’ll place a staff clone at max range, warden in middle range and use the i-leap sword clone for close range. Before I even swap I’m sending the clones to shatter.

Yeah I was just reading about that… And the cd for illusions is already low. Still going to give it a try. Lots of boon/condition clearing.

The idea behind this build is to target those ‘immortal’ bunkers, hence the name. Also the possibility of dealing with condition spam. The idea is to use a combination of Arcane Thievery followed by iDisenchanter to strip boons before a phantasm+shatter burst. Assuming the new healing signet causes phantasms to attack…

Taking Chaos traits for added survivability and synergy with vulnerability application from Domination minors. Also this trait setup should be viable to swap to a group build as well.

Since the assumption is Signet of Ether will cause phantasms to attack, signet of midnight is chosen for short stun break.

Testing starts next week… Can hardly wait

LF WvW/PvE Roaming/Boon build

I like this build for pve Phantasm Medic

That build is really slow though for WvW especially roaming. Honestly I don’t know why you would run a support build for roaming. That just doesn’t seem like a good idea. There was talk on the forums about an upcoming bunker build though.

Or if you like the stealth playstyle try out the hybrid build by BlackDevil its quite alot of fun for roaming.

If your group doesn’t have a Guardian and everyone is kinda new to the dungeons, sure Staff could use some use to help the party. But 99% of the time other weapons are better. Plus you gear yourself as a zerker so the cond damage from staff will be pretty bad too

Either Im misunderstanding you or vice versa. Ive been running a mix of knights/berserkers for static phantasms 10/10/20/30/0. Any time a group has condition spam and you have a phantasm that gets a 10% damage bonus for each unique condition, that phantasm will rock the boss. 3 phantasms seems like 2 fire staff eles to me. Especially if your spamming mantra of pain because staff does crap damage (oh mantras heal) and you gotta love that bounce. Looks like you’d be surprised how many fights that works on. Of course pugs are pugs…

Too bad iWarden is so screwed up atm
