not sure, just check the other locations
we really dont need mounts, the way point system lets us get around easily enough, and exploring the would on foot is so much more fun. however, i think you should look at your idea more in light of the keg brawl, you could have moa race around divinities reach or something like that, similar to mario cart.

Tool kit is both sexy and awesomesauce. Hitting people with wrenches is what engineers are about. They are the defining feature of any true engineer class, and it is forever to the professions shame that they are lackluster in damage and utility compared with like options on the engineer and other professions as a whole.
The day will come when wrenches take their rightful place as the pinnacle of enginess and the doubters shall lay bruised and broken from the bluntness of it’s wrath!
well said
you are pardoned.

thanks for posting Karl, your presence in the forums is appreciated
these are just my opinions, if someone below says otherwise, they are probably right.
the ranger doesnt have as much damage a other classes, but we are good at sustained fights. i use the various dodges on the weapon skills and a steady supply of endurance to survive a drawn out fight
also a large portion of our damage (people have said things from 15-50%) is bound to our pets and might not be apparent right away.
i havent found a build that does tons more damage than another build, getting good armor and runes might be the only way to go.
if we get to ‘tame’ skritt, we have to stay away from one another, lest the skritt gain intelligence from their numbers and attempt to overthrow us and reverse our roles.
coughnotdissimilartoallnorncough
A simple “Attack Target” command
and
a simple “Stop Attacking and come back to my side and stay there and for kittens sake where are you going now, no come back here and don’t run off and attack anything else either just cause you feel like it. I don’t care if it is a champion. kitten”
ah this is really interesting. if this is the only gripe you have about the pet system it could one day be fixed. i main a ranger and we are more annoyed with our pets being unable to attack moving targets, having a large portion of our potential damage locked away in an ai and lack of finer control.
a necro could have a ‘attack’, ‘return to me’, and a ‘aggressive/passive’ bound to their f2-f4 much like the ranger currently has and it would almost solve the problem. its too bad its easier to say this than code it and add it to the game.
in alot of games making ai that can compete with real people is hard if not impossible. the trick might be giving players more control over their pets, but then you have a situation where rangers/necros have to try twice as hard to achieve the same results as other classes. hard to find a balance
for pve dont forget about axe offhand, in pvp it isn’t very good, but in pve it does alot of damage and reacts to the combo fields you get from the traps.
@YumCHA (i don’t get why the forums wont let me quote properly)
rangers are very much capable of nature magic, we can summon spirits and 2 of our elite skills are nature magic, but i wouldn’t want the staff to be completely magic, i would want the staff to attack in melee range, and have some magic skills like making a ring of thorns around the ranger which cripple and bleed, and other physical attacks like a pole-vault attack. it would give the feeling of fighting alongside nature rather than manipulating nature.
pay close attention, and you will notice rangers weren’t even mentioned in these patch notes, you can’t complain
i play an asura ranger, and the animations for the 1h sword’s basic attack is awesome. btw the eternal alchemy wont respond to prayers.
i play an asura ranger, and the crazy acrobatics the 1h sword’s #1 skill has drives me to use it
ha, i forgot about the dolphin, rabbit would be hilarious too
i thought of some more as well, i want a gorilla (not sure if they are an extinct race or not, but you see undead ones in ore) and i want a turtle
when you play the asura statics stroyline one of your krew members tame a raptor, so it is possible.
i would love if both became tamable, as well as tropical birds(i have a feeling we will get this when we get the tengu as a playable race)
i like the sword in pve because it keeps it interesting, i used longbow up to around lvl 50, its good, just gets boring eventually. i could be wrong, but it feels that the 1h sword does the most damage on its basic attack, it also has a great ability to disengage from the enemy if you do start taking damage
oh, i forgot to mention that the 1h sword cripples the enemy on auto attack, making it even easier to disengage
OMG three minor fixes!, the rest of the classes had a big fix, and us 3 minor fixes. I was waiting for this patch 2 weeks since it was announced and now this…GJ anet.
bare in mind the ranger wasn’t even mentioned in the patch notes
personally i would like to see the ranger get a staff and take a more druid/monk like fighting style
OT not really sure why they can’t.
maybe they tried but couldn’t make it feel unique compared to the other rifle wielding classes?
maybe thematically the rifles felt to industrial for a skill/nature class?
maybe it will come out in an expansion?
no way to know.
im not so great at wvw, but i got some pve advice.
- if you want to use the 1h sword, make sure to turn the auto-attack off. the way this swords basic attack works is that you use one melee attack, then you use a leap, and then another leap. this was intended to be a melee weapon that chases down opponents. however, when in melee range and your opponent is not running away, the sword attacks all queue up and it makes it so you can’t dodge or use other skills, binding yourself in place.
- use any pet you like really, i like having a spider (the one that imobilizes, cant remember name) and a wolf for the cc, but really anything works.
- avoid the spirit utility skills right now, they are very underpowered
- using ranged traps can be quite fun, traps in general are great for the combo fields they make.
- keybind the about-face key somewhere if you want to use lightning reflexes or want to do some crazy acrobatics with the 1h sword’s 3rd skill.
- quickening zephyr and the shortbow in nice for attacking an opponent from behind, you can stack alot of bleeds in a very short time.
- remember as a ranger your main way to avoid damage is to dodge, remember the skills that do this and i suggest traiting into getting increased endurance
- traiting into piercing arrows can do alot of damage in tightly packed enemies
- i can’t speak for all the classes, but i really like the asura attack animations with the swords
im no pro, so take somebody elses advice over mine, enjoy your ranger
they dont have to pull it, if we can be polite and patient (a little persistent, not annoying persistent, but pleasant persistent) i feel confident we can get a quick response
never played gw1, what was the situation there?
while i partially agree, your being too angry, a polite approach would have been more productive
they might not want to buff them too much until the botting problem is figured out, rangers seem to be the main class used for this iirc
i love the idea of a staff, but not so much the idea of it being mainly a support weapon. in an attempt to make the skill feel more unique to the other staff wielders, i would want the staff to attack in melee range instead of long range
props to putting so much work into your idea
i really like the idea of the staff, i think you have the wrong idea on some of the skills though. lightning and earth are elementalist magics, a staff for the druid would should have more animal-spirits and manipulating plant life. here are some skills i would like to see on the staff:
- placing a thorn bush around the ranger, crippling and bleeding nearby enemies for a time
– summon a spirit bore behind your opponent which will knock your opponents down in a line
some other ideas i like would be if one of the staffs skills were linked to the pet that you were using, so having a bird would use a blinding spirit attack on the staff, while a spider pet would have a poisoning spirit effect ect.
it would also be cool if during one of the whirling attacks, if ranged attacks were reflected to random nearby enemies
just my 2 cents, love the staff idea myself
i noticed this with the priory as well, just having alot of asura instead,
the order of whispers however is made up of a larger percentage of humans, maybe even a majority.
yo mamma’s iq so low she thinks crafting is something you do at a criver
i share your pain, have some things to suggest
- double clicking the skill will sometimes cancel it, try not to do that
– when you use the f2 skill, it queues the f2 skill in with the other skills the pet has, you can get around this by using the f2 skill immediately after swapping pets, this puts the f2 skill to the beginning of the queue
this doesn’t fix the problem, but it helps in some situations
i don’t immediately see how they could give the ranger a rifle without making it feel too much like the warrior’s rifle. give some examples if you have them.
personally, i wold go the other direction and ask for being able to use a staff. it would give a cool druid feeling to the ranger. it could use nature and spirit spells, and maybe a spell that changes with what pet your using, like bleeding your opponent with a spirit bird, or knocking down your opponent with a spirit bore.
i think your definition of evil is a little lax.
i really like the idea of having a nature magic tree as well, personally though i would like to be able to use a staff as a ranger. to make it feel different from the staffs of other classes it could be melee ranged , and would focus around building up plants or using animal spirits to attack.
just realised rangers are the only class without a way to negate dmg effectively
in Ranger

aside from protect-me, rangers have a lot of potential to dodge through vigor and we have lots of evades on our weapon skills. this is a little different from the other classes in that it will require a bit of skill to use well, and dont get me wrong, im a really bad ranger and cant use any of these well at all.
ya, it does need a fix, but i have some 1h sword tips to tide you over till it gets fixed (assuming your complaining mostly about the 1h sword animation)
- turn off the auto attack, this is really just necessary
– try swapping weapons if you really need to get out of the aa animation, this doesn’t always work, but it does once in a while
– remember that the 1h sword doesn’t have a typical aa, rather it is a 3 stage leap, and leaps have a longer and un-cancleable animation
– button-mashing 1 will queue several of the autoattacks, causing you to jump everywhere, try to avoid this
what is needed to fix this is not a bug fix, the skill is technically working as intended, instead we need the auto attack to change from being a leap to being a normal auto attack depending on the range of the opponent(0-130 range use normal attack, 131-450 range use leap)
the signet passives are rarely good enough by themselves, consider the active effect as well.
im no expert, but i dont believe the regen is enough to use the signet by itsself.
i saw something like this from a quest in the brisband wildlands.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Return_the_arboreal_spirit_to_its_husk,_and_drive_away_the_hylek
he says he is a maguma druid and he returns to his husk to sleep.
through the way he talks he seems connected to the rest of the druids while he talks to you. food for thought
@rickshaw
i think you should look at your math again
16attacks/20seconds = .8 attacks per second
17attacks/20seconds = .85 attacks per second
by your video the skill is actually stronger than it is on the tooltip
zach has it all done right
we have 2 dedicated sub forums for pvp issues, go their to complain about the rangers viability
you should clarify if you are looking for pvp or pve advice.
- the ranger is thought to be a bit underpowered atm, but that will be changed with time
– if you plan on using the 1h sword, turn off the autoattack, as it inadvertently roots you in place
– keybind the about-face command to somewhere, as it is really useful to move around with the 1hsword’s leap and for lightning reflexes
– follow a guide if you decide to get into crafting, it will help
– i dont know about the other races, but the asura have really cool animations with the 1h sword and 2h sword, there is a trade off however as the armor and weapons of the asura are scaled down to their model size and are thus more difficult to see.
– dont worry about pets right away, they dont have huge impacts right away.
– try to play with autotargetting off
– the different races only have a few racial skills, and they aren’t very good in most cases, so choose the race you like
thats all i got right now, enjoy the game

ya, i know it doesn’t always work, but it sure helps alot, just putting it here to help people if they want to cope with the current 1h sword. i found some other things that might help some other people dealing with this
button mashing the 1 key will queue together several 1 attacks and will root you, try to avoid this.
when using the one chain, imagine your are using a melee range swoop ( the greatsword’s 3 attack) and remember that it has a fairly long animation for an auto attack.
i found a fun combo in hitting the oponent with the first 1 attack, deselecting the opponent and using the 1 attack to dash behind your opponent, then re-selecting the opponent for the last 1 attack. more useful in pvp.
lastly make sure you keybind the aboutface command, its useful for several combos.
(edited by Deleven.7508)
first off remember to turn off auto attack so that you dont self root.
i think the one thing about the one handed sword is that it is rather un-intuitive the way it actually works, it isn’t an attack like most other weapons have, its a 3 stage leap. the attack is really good for chasing foes, but not great for brawls. the trick will be using the ranger’s other skills to do some damage while focusing on not taking damage through dodging, then using the 1 skill to finish your opponent off once they are running away.
pve however i see fewer uses as enemies rarely run away.
if you find yourself chasing alot, then sword-dagger is really effective, the spammable cripple and leap on the auto attack make it impossible for the enemies to escape, and you can throw more cc on your utility skills just for kicks.
longbow can be alright. for defending it is really fun, you can trick people into thinking they are getting attacked by an arrow cart.
make sure you have piercing arrows, especially for the second and forth skill. the second skill actually does really good damage if you are able to hit 3+ targets, which happens alot when you going up against a zerg, and being able to disrupt 2 enemies from rezing their ally is just entertaining
have a short bow or a axe as your other weapons because you will need to switch to it while the longbows cooldowns are up as the lb auto attack is quite subpar.
it would be really cool if rangers could equip a staff and become a nature mage, i would be stoked.
“Or perhaps the 6 second delay on the F2 command before its used”
the way the F2 ability works is that it throws the active command into the skill chain. it would be nice if they would change it so the active skill took priority and canceled the chain, but you can get around it by using your F2 skill immediately after swapping pets
also, pressing it twice will sometimes cancel the spell, try not to mash
as an asura ranger, i see where you are coming from, but there is much else to take into consideration.
a rifle doesn’t not have to disrupt the environment. with the proper application of varied energy glyphs and miniature sound dampening mounted fields it is completely possible to produce less noise than a crude bowstring and less pollution than the arrows littered around after a skirmish. do not compare our masterpieces to those made by the charr.
being a ranger in the end does involve maintaining balance, but more importantly it requires having a renewable fighting style that maintain equilibrium to our adjacent cogs in the eternal alchemy, and we should be allowed to use everything in our arsenals that can used to this effect (including the above-standard intelligence of the asura).
i dont hate it, but i feel it could have been alot better, well just have to see if Anet will improve it in future expansions
