I think the to level 20 scroll is straight up useless for most veteran players.
Right now I have no character under Lv20 and I have a character for each class.
Even if they added a new race I wouldn’t use the “to level 20 scroll” since introducing a new race would introduce new stories to experience, and I wouldn’t wanna skip past that.
And even if they added a new class, it’s something I’d wanna take slow and learn it as I go, so skipping it to Lv20 would also be bad since I would lose the experience of experimenting with a new class.
Now I can understand where you’re coming from with the slippery slope business. But the game does need ascended gear when you think about it.
No, it doesn’t. If ArenaNet hadn’t introduced ascended stuff in the first place, nobody would talk about it and nobody would miss it. It would be all about skins and it would work as well.
I had a hard time finding something to do before it was introduced. Once I reached Lv80 I got my stats and was done. I then worked on getting a full Arah armor for the look I wanted which I quickly achieved, then I had literally nothing left to work for since I didn’t care for the Legendaries.
Ascended gives us something to work for which really requires time and a bit of effort. Even a high level dungeon armor can be obtained fairly quickly.
Also, I do hope the ascended items introduced will all be account bound – like the accessories and such.
While I don’t particularly fancy the idea of items you work for being account bound, if they weren’t it would completely fail the entire purpose of ascended items.
Which is why I kind of have no doubt they will all be account bound.
The real deal with ascended items is the fact they’re generally hard to get, unlike exotics. The actual stat change isn’t really real, it’s not required. So if you could just sit back, click a button and buy one off the TP the whole significance of it would be gone.
Edit; I’m already a bit disappointed at the fact Legendary items aren’t account bound. The fact you can just buy a lot of money and buy one off the TP kind of completely devalues it, even though it’s very expensive.

I don’t want to get it. This game doesn’t need it. The players don’t need it. But ArenaNet seems to think that they need it or this game will die on the vine.
You’d think they’d have worked out by now that if this game is going to die, it’s because of things like grind and ascended gear, the alienation by the studio, and ArenaNet’s complete disconnection from their community and not due to the lack thereof.
Which tells me that making a good, fun game is pretty far down on their priority list.
But it doesn’t matter. We’re getting the gear. If you want it, you get a nice timegated grind. All that’s pretty much set in stone. No point asking opinions here – ArenaNet has been ignoring them since November.
Enjoy your gear grind.
I want it…
Now I can understand where you’re coming from with the slippery slope business. But the game does need ascended gear when you think about it.
As it stands once you reach Lv80 you can just take some 10-15 minutes of your time to gear out your character with the most powerful armor available (Exotics).
Ascended fills a really big hole in GW2: challenge or a goal. The armor itself gives a rather small increase in stats so it’s not a requirement to get through any part of the game (maybe except high level Fractals, but if you’re doing that odds are you’d want ascended gear anyway).
But for those who actually want those max stats, ascended gear gives us something to work towards. Everything requires a bit of challenge with a bit of time. The amulets, rings, accessories all have a slightly different way of being obtained but all of them require time and gameplay, instead of just clicking a button and buying them instantly.
The problem becomes when they add another tier of gear (not counting legendary, which already exists). But they already said they wouldn’t, and it’s pointless to fret over something that doesn’t exist, especially when you have no reason to believe it will exist in the future.
If my friend (or someone I know) gives me a gift or gifts, and not an insult gift to make fun of me, but a gift that they spend time making or buying or acquiring, I will be grateful for them. I don’t care if it’s a pad paper that I don’t ever use, a dozen colored pencil of the same color, or a set of crayon I already have or just a stone-paperweight which will actually end up cluttering my work space. The fact is, someone spend sometime to give me something.
The thought counts, the actual gift makes it better, no matter what that might be.
This gift is a bit underwhelming to people who played GW1, and the gifts there were already only so so.
Sure if a friend gives me a generally underwhelming gift I’ll appreciate it.
However that’s not the case, it’s more like a friend gave me a collection of bad gifts, but then also gave every single other person he knew an identical copy of the exact same gifts for their birthdays. So now everyone I know has what I got, it’s really underwhelming and becomes entirely insignificant, if not even a bit offensive.
No I’m not asking to be special, no I don’t want a unique and new item that was crafted just for me. It’s just they really could have done so little and have been so much better.
I’m not here to complain or rage, when I saw what they were gonna give us as a gift, I immediately thought “well, guess that’s something I’ll generally ignore” because it really was completely worthless (other than the nice little booster).
But even though I cared nothing for the gifts doesn’t mean I shouldn’t speak up about my personal opinions towards this.
Discussing and QQing are different things, a lot of people often times forget this fact.
Meh, well in the end I honestly wish these items didn’t exist at all.
Levels in this game are already nearly worthless, with this item it just makes them even more pointless. If they made it +20 levels (which I think makes more sense anyway) then levels would really be totally worthless.
I have two of these, I’d be able to instantly get +40 levels to a character, making me pretty much not need to play him at all.
So you only play a character until they get to level 80, then stop?
It’s your choice of course but that would be very unusual. For a lot of people it’s the complete opposite – they want to get levelling out of the way as quickly as possible so they can focus on whatever they created that character for.
I don’t necessarily agree with that approach, I enjoy levelling and I think it’s a big part of the game and a good way to get to know and develop your character. But I think those are the people this item is aimed at and if you go completely the other way you have to bear in mind that you’re an exception and a lot of things aimed at other players won’t make sense to you.
You completely misunderstood what I meat. What I meant when I said “making me pretty much not need to play him at all” was that with a +40 level item(s), added with just regular crafting, I’ll barely need to play the character to get him to Lv80.
Meh, well in the end I honestly wish these items didn’t exist at all.

It didn’t fail it is not appreciated just for what it is. Could they have given you 600g plus a precursor of choice, absolutely. They did what they did.
We’re not really asking for that. That’s not the point. Generally the point is that these minis are worthless in every way, because not only can they not be MFed but everyone gets one, so they’re not really unique in any way.
We’re not asking for hundreds of gold, something along the lines of everyone who’s 1 year old gets a queen jennah mini as well as a pack of minis from the new or even the old edition. Something as simple as that would have made just a huge difference.
In all honesty, I think the experience scrolls as-is are a bit confusing. In those first 20 levels, you get comfortable with your weapon sets, skills and traits as well as how mobility plays a big factor in survival. Why skip the first 20 levels? By the time you hit level 20, you get a little courageous, attempt to solo a level 25 veteran and his 5 lackeys, learn a valuable lesson on being outnumbered, repair your armor and develop a little modesty. Without that lesson, our community would suffer (reaching big time here).
On the flip side, once you hit 60, you just want to be done and get that nice ascended gear you’ve been drooling over for the last 15 levels.
New players can’t get this scroll, if you’ve got the scroll odds are you have more than one level 80 character to understand the gameplay.
I do wish they added 20 levels instead of making you reach level 20. On another note, I just got a bit sad as I realized how pointless levels really are in this game :c
Thought not useless, the majority of people who would be able to get one would have little to no use of it. Yes some people may still have use for it but from what I see that’s the minority.
Making it +20 levels instead of to level 20 would make a lot more sense due to the time required of play to get these. This would help those, such as I, who have every class above level 20, and those who don’t, cause it’d still give them the 20 levels anyway.
This has literally no use for me.
Shame, I’ll just have to let my crystals gather dust for a while. Since yeah I imagine they wouldn’t remove it too soon.
I don’t need to know a specific date, I just wanted a general idea of when the devs are planning to do this.
As in will MF be removed within the next few updates? Within the next couple months, within this year? Towards the end of the year, next year. I mean I just wanna have a general idea of when I can expect this.
Because right now I have 3 characters I wanna make Celestial Armor for but didn’t wanna do it before MF went away not to regret my decision.
But I don’t wanna keep the crystals just collecting dust in my bank if the change won’t be happening any time soon, so I wanted to have an idea of when I can expect these changes so I can decide what to do with my charged crystals.
I’d love if a dev could answer this for me.
Well, mockery and insult won’t get you anywhere – even if what you’re saying is correct being insulting makes people generally not care to what you have to say.
People have all the right to play casually and enjoy the game, but they also do have to understand that not every content is suited for every player.
Which isn’t even the issue of this thread. This thread is nothing more than a misunderstanding of the meta and how to obtain it with the new daily achievement mechanics.
Five DIFFERENT invasions is required to finish the Evorp meta or whatever the Asura is called. Thirteen DIFFERENT invasions is required to finish up the Clockwork meta. All of this can be seen by going to the achievement tab for each one and reading the descriptions.
As far as I know only one of them has a meta, the clockwork one. The other one doesn’t have a meta. So you either do it or don’t, it’s up to you.
On that note, thirteen different invasions is not required in any sort of way to finish the clockwork meta.
I agree that it’s not really clear on a lot of things added to the game, there needs to be better flow of information as to the new features added. Currently a big issue I deal with is the lack of information.
On the queen’s jubilee the meta required more achievements than was available. I was confused and wondered how I was supposed to finish when there wasn’t enough to finish, it took a little while before I finally realized the new Living Story dailies counted towards the meta.
On that note, you don’t have to do the 13 invasions if you don’t want to and are completely able to finish the meta without doing so.
My main issue with them is really the texture. They look like plastic.
The way they shine and the way they’re shaped, and how flat and simple they look, on top of that powder blue color just makes them look like plastic.
However I must say I’m pleased with the staff. It’s one of the very few amazing looking staves that’s been added to the game… now if only it didn’t look like plastic.
I say movespeed stat is as selfish as any other, attack, prec, crit, toughness, vit. I mean all stats are meant to buff the user, so they’re all equally selfish. The only non selfish stat is healing.
On that note I like the idea although I think a movespeed stat would be a bit unbalanced, there’s a lot of situations where it could be pretty overpowered. In WvW mostly.
I do hope however they do something smart with the removing of magic find in gear, if they do decide to replace it with another type of new stat then they need to be careful since it can’t be too specific. Otherwise a lot of people who currently have dedicated a lot into MF will feel betrayed.
And then, the fire nation attacked.
I don’t play an engi and don’t really care to play one and completely agree.
If it were my main class I’d be really sad and upset knowing that all that time I worked getting my favorite weapons would be pointless. I’d be upset if I just ended up having to use a hobo sac and the same weapon skin I used in the first levels of that game.
Especially if I were going for a legendary.
Is there any sort of lore behind her at all? I tried searching for it but couldn’t easily find anything.
On that note, I think it’d be really nice if she got added as a character to the Living Story. Because most players will know who she is.
When a player hears her name they will instantly know who she is, and emotions will be invoked in them; whether for better or worse.
After some attempts and once I gave up doing it on my necro and just decided to go for a mesmer, I managed to beat her.
It’s not impossible, however the fact it’s not impossible doesn’t make it either reasonable nor a well designed battle.
I still think the way it’s working is all sorts of wrong.
Difficulty does not equal challenge, and while a challenge requires some difficulty that is not to say that just having raw difficulty makes something challenging; it makes it frustrating.
This whole battle goes wrong right in the start, you have absolutely no way of knowing how she fights or how to kill her without first either looking it up online or dozens of trial and error just to learn how to fight her.
A well designed, well thought out and good challenge should let you use the available tools and information to figure out how to overcome it.
Instead this has no information within the challenge itself and it rips off half of the available tools a player can use since most builds and some classes either can’t beat her or are on the fine line between possible and impossible.
On top of all that the actual mechanics of the fight don’t add to the challenge, it adds to frustration.
You have various sources of 1 hit KOs without knowing they’re 1 hit KOs. You have an invulnerable enemy with no info on how to beat her, and an array of “stuff” such as the orbs and whirlpools which you will have no idea what they do when you go in to fight her.
Overall this was a shallow attempt at challenge which ended up being nothing but a bulk of raw and misdirected difficulty which became nothing but frustrating.
Since you can’t easily stop to attack her, and with that time limit on your head there are two better ways of going about this.
Either use a mesmer, since they’re able to send illusions in to deal damage as they run. Or conditions, since you’re able to put some conditions then run away while she gets damaged.
However even though necros are great at conditions it’s all for nothing if they can’t stay alive.
Necro is my main so I was determined to do it with my necro. After 40 attempts of getting her down to around 25% HP and failing due to time limit I gave up with the necro.
It’s really unfair the current situation with necros and survivability. We have no skill to give us aegis, none for vigor. We have no invulnerabilities or blocks, and our only insta kill negate was the DS which no longer does that.
Decided to give it a go with my mesmer, but since the tickets are soulbound I couldn’t do much with it. Did some 10 tries, got her to a sliver of her health at one point and just messed up due to pressure.
It’s absurd how easier it is with the mesmer though.
We all (most of us know) that the AoE has a pattern. As I said this is the most insignificant part of the fight. That’s not what the issue is here so continuously bashing the information that the AoE has a pattern is pointless.
I’ve memorized her beginning pattern completely. I run to the first whirpool before it shows up, I get the visions in, run to the next, dodge where I need to. The patterns are very easy to memorize, as I said that isn’t the problem.
The issues here are the bad cameras, the gang banged shadows, avoiding her attack, orbs that spawn out of your view when you’re in the middle of some 4 shadows… but most of all the time.
I easily get to her 2nd phase fine, there are the times that the amount of combined bad luck get me killed though.
And yes, there is luck involved. For example I was avoiding her AoE while guiding her shadow, that’s when the second orb spawns. I quickly looked through the room and saw the orb was on the opposite side of the room.
I quickly tried running to it before it would pull me but there wasn’t enough time, it pulled me into an AoE which I managed to become invulnerable in time to survive it. But then as the invulnerability went away and the AoE vanished, a shadow spawned and exploded right there and then.
There are patterns, but luck is still a factor.
Also the visions move soooo slow that getting one to reach some of the whirlpools is painful, horrible, and dangerous without a pull. I honestly think this would be easier if the visions moved faster, amazingly easier.
Either way, in the end the issue is the time. Every single time when I get close to killing her, the time screws me up.
Her 1 hit kill attacks are by far the least of my problems. Both the AoE and the exploding shadows are extremely avoidable and predictable.
However, some of the real issues with this fight are;
1: The camera and visuals.
When a whirlpool appears near the walls you can’t properly see where the red circles are, and you can’t see if there are any visions coming from the left or right, or if any spawned on top of you. All of this not to mention how bad it is for someone without perfect vision to clearly spot the AoE on that floor texture.
2: The vision of mortality gang bang.
Using some pulls available to me I’m able to pull the visions into the whirlpools to quicken the process, unfortunately the problem starts when I run out of pulls. They move so slow that by the time 1 reaches the far off whirpool, there will be some 2 or 3 other visions there on top of the orb, thus making it impossible for you to pick up the orb without dying. Forcing you to run around in hopes that you’ll get an orb without visions nearby, wasting precious time.
3: Liadri’s auto attack.
You’re able to avoid that somewhat well using swiftness or moving from left to right. However due to the chaotic nature of the fight odds are you’ll have to mostly ignore it. The claws she sends out deals on average 2k damage. This ruins the chance for low HP classes. On top of avoiding AoE, leading visions, and doing it all quickly, they have to deal with their HP quickly depleting as their one heal is on cooldown.
4: The Cosmic Rifts.
Adding to the fact of the already bad camera, these orbs that pull you will often spawn outside of your line of sight, making you only find out they’re there when it’s too late. Not to mention the bug (hopefully) that you can’t hit them with ranged skills.
Lastly, and more importantly…
5: The time.
Unless you’re damage focused (zerk) you’re gonna have a very stressful time trying to beat her within the time limit. With the running around to get orbs, escaping her to try to heal up, to actually fighting back to reduce her huge HP pool, you won’t have much time to complete it unless you’re a damage build. Some classes just have it ten times worst because not all classes have decent viable constant damage dealing skills.
Now, all these things by themselves don’t pose much of a threat, but by putting them all together and adding the variety of 1 hit kills in this fight is what really makes it more frustrating than challenging.
Honestly what ties this whole parade of ridiculousness together is the time limit.
On my very first try (after I read up information online on how to fight her) I went pretty far. I managed to get her to 2nd phase, and I was slowly chipping away at her HP while running around trying to survive. Sadly though once she was at about 25% HP the time ran out.
Even though all her mechanisms are very difficult and frustrating, it’s not so unreasonable. What truly makes it unreasonable is the time limit on top of everything else.
I love a good challenge, and I for one am alright accepting the fact that not all content is for everyone. That you really need to master your class, the enemy and everything available to you to overcome the challenge, but this isn’t a challenge.
I could go on describing and giving examples as to what this one fight does wrong that really doesn’t make it a good challenge, instead only makes it a frustrating hassle, but I went on for long enough as it is. Maybe I’ll talk about it later.
On that note, this’ll affect new players more than anyone else.
Imagine how disappointed with the game you’d be if you decided to try it out, not knowing much about it, walk into the game and see a barren wasteland.
Then you see a group event pop up, you run to it only to be greeted by a barrage of floating green and red names, with nothing else happening. Then seconds later you’re dead without knowing why.
There is no way you’d think very highly of a game if that’s what it presented to you.
I have a friend who I managed to convince to start playing GW2 with me. He’s gonna be starting this week, and now I feel extremely nervous and worried that I’ll have to come up with a bunch of explanations and excuses for this so he won’t be underwhelmed by the game.
I’m honestly tempted to just tell him to start the game in a week or two (because hopefully this culling issue will be fixed by then).
First impressions matter.
It’s very underwhelming of an experience to have to fight against invisible enemies along side invisible allies – not to mention the implications this has on actual survivability and game play alone.
But having people and enemies be invisible also really ruins the immersion aspect a game needs to have to really hook people in. Running along side floating names while fighting red floating names really doesn’t play well, doesn’t feel good.
This makes the entire gameplay experience extremely shallow.
I agree though.
I feel like the wallet is unpolished, unfinished, and rushed.
1: it’s a space waster, why those huge squares are necessary is beyond me.
2: it’s confusing. The list isn’t very easy on the eyes and since it’s a big box full of smaller boxes it can be a bit confusing to instantly know where to look for what you want.
3: the icons were clearly designed to fit inside the tiny boxes in your inventory, not as they currently are in the wallet. Some of the icons got hastily cut and chopped up to make more sense, while some of the icons still have a tiny colored box around them (to look good in your inventory). It all just looks off.
4: it’s not well organized. The achievements were made into large boxes as well however they’re pretty well organized. There’s the box as well as a tiny list of info for it; that made sense for the achievements, not so much for currency.
I’m having a miserable time, and a friend of mine who has a slightly worse machine just decided to stop playing this new patch until it gets fixed, for him especially it’s just unplayable.
He suffered from some bad fps in the past when with a large number of people around, but could always play fine. Now he’s forced to turn his settings drastically low just to be able to see the names on the enemy’s heads – although he still can’t see enemies, allies, enemies attacks, etc.
It’s miserable, I’m just dying constantly and for free without knowing what killed me.
I’m having a horrible time with this.
I have a decent machine and never had an issue playing the game even when around some 50 people, the fps was always super fine. But now the culling just made everything around my invisible; particle effects, enemy particle effects, players, enemies, my own attacks, everything.
I’m just in the middle of a fight and get killed constantly without even knowing what’kittenting me.
Also, that thing about being in an area of effect circle and the red circle not showing up; I have the same problem – took me a while to realize why I was getting constant damage without anything actually attacking me.
The issue here is with how Anet did all of this. One of the biggest issues I’m having personally is with the new culling business.
Goodness I never had a problem running the game before, not even when there were 50 people in the same spot, the game always ran fine (even though the particle effects were absurd).
Now though, there’s some 20 people in the same spot and everything becomes invisible. Particle effects, players, and monsters. I get hit left and right without not even knowing what’kittenting me.
They already said they wouldn’t be adding festival/non permanent currencies into the wallet; such as the fortune scraps.
And Zhaitaffy isn’t a currency.
I’m 100% on this, I logged in to see the wallet and was I a bit grossed out with the design. It looks pretty messy and confusing honestly, and true a lot of wasted space.
It looks awkward and rushed.
There’s a lot of personal opinion floating around, but we need to get some hard fact down on the table here.
Light armor on males; it has the same shape as the Armageddon and Exalted armors, with a textured look similar to the Priory’s light armor.
Medium armor on males; another trench coat, which this time makes you look like a cyborg made of cheap metal since the metal on the coat has such a faded texture.
Heavy armor on both males and females; is medium armor. A new Norn cultural-like medium armor.
You can argue “oh well 5 stat points alone may be worthless but when all your accessories have them they add up”.
Well if you put one in each piece it’s 30 stat points all together.
But at a huge cost for each 5 stat points, the 30 all together is really not worth it.
Even if the cost wasn’t very high, 30 stat points is still one way or another not something to be amazed at.
It’ll give you +300HP if in Vit. Like 1 or 2% critical chance if Prec, etc.
Well, this’ll be a set of armor I’ll almost completely ignore.
In my own personal opinion I’m very meh’d by both the light and medium ones, the heavy looks fantastic though (yet I am completely baffled as to why it’s heavy and not medium).
My main (male) wears light armor and I was very disappointed to see an armor that looks like a cross between armageddon and priory light armors.
While the medium looks like a badly made clunky robot from outer space – with a trench coat.
I liked the heavy chest and leggings only, they reveal a bit of skin which is a breath of fresh air for males. I like how they reveal a bit on the legs and the upper body too. Plus that fur looks pretty fantastic. Best part – it’s asymmetrical, something light armor is lacking miserably.
All in all, very sad with them.
One skin in GW2 is almost as much as a GW1 expansion.
Yea, have fun with that.

I love the arguments that go; don’t like that game, don’t play it. Don’t like the weapon, don’t get it. Don’t like the president, move to another country.
These are absolutely ridiculous closed minded statements which do nothing to help the ongoing discussion.
I personally want nothing to do with these skins, that doesn’t change the fact they’re way too overpriced. It’s not even like saying if you want an expensive car you gotta be willing to pay for it.
In reality it’s like paying 300,000 USD for a car that’s worth 25,000 USD. It’s not about being expensive, it’s overpriced – outrageously so.
Buying them off the TP isn’t a valid point at the moment since the events are going on and they drop the skins. Once the events are gone and the “discount” is done, they’ll be worth 5 BL tickets instead of one, and there won’t be another way of getting them. This’ll make the prices in the TP sky rocket.
One way or another, this isn’t right. Even the argument to say “well you can farm for the keys” isn’t a logical solution. Farming for the keys requires such erratic and broken gameplay that it was even questioned by players if it was considered an exploit.
If there was an actual way to farm for the keys without completely breaking natural gameplay then the high cost of black lion keys wouldn’t even be such an issue.
A lot of people don’t seem to understand the issue with why we’re upset with this system, let me try to address some things;
-The issue isn’t RNG, the issue is RNG in a gemstore purchase only (any other method isn’t reliable, I’ll address the farming bellow) item.
-The issue isn’t paying money for an item, it’s paying aprox $50 now and $300 later on a chance to get an item.
-You can get them off the TP, but the only reason their price is more reasonable (average of 50 gold is barely reasonable, but still not outrageous) is because of the events. The events will go away and their price will rise, thus so will the TP prices; dramatically.
-Farming is a part of most games, and it needs to stop getting such a bad rep; farming is fine. The issue with the Key farming is that the only way to farm them completely breaks regular gameplay, as I stated if you could farm them in a way that didn’t force you to completely break the regular gameplay it’d be fine with the current prices.
-The current means to farm keys is so unusual that it was questioned by players if it was considered an exploit.
-You can make the argument that the skins will be here for ever unlike previous ones; that solves one issue but presents a completely new one.
-So you have 3 years to get the item, doesn’t matter how long you have if the item still costs $300 – the issue in this new method isn’t time, it’s the outrageous price.
-You should in fact take time and effort to get rare items, I’m all for that. However these new items requires neither in a decent way, it takes money or erratic gameplay which was once questioned as an exploit.
So in conclusion; the prices either need to go way down, or there should be a better method of obtaining black lion keys, or there should be a way to get scraps without relying entirely on a gem store purchase gamble item.
Oh gosh the Aspect Arena (mini game Kiel has going on) was hell on me.
I knew what it was about and took my time to read the bullet points, I even stayed still for like a minute of game time reading what my skills did before I began (wasting precious time for the game already going on where I could be helping my team).
Then I got in there and had NO idea what to do, I was so frustrated and confused. I didn’t know if I had to kill the enemies, I mean it told me to get crystals but I couldn’t find any crystal anywhere.
It took some two to three games before I finally learned what was going on by myself and managed to be competent for my team – and that’s because I actually read the available information in game and knew what it was about before so.
Lazy people not willing to read long posts.
That’s why there’s no information in game; no one would be willing to actually read up on the info.
It is possibly to farm keys and thus not spend anything at all, that is all.
Any idea on the cost in time it takes to get 70 keys ? It would take like 24 hours of non-stop farming at 20 minutes (which means you’ve got a lvl 80 boosting you with speed buffs and quick kills.) After this story line intro event is over, it will take 5 times as many keys, so 5 times as long. For those of us that get maybe 1 or 2 hours a day tops to play, it’s just not realistic to farm keys.
See, what I see as the problem here isn’t even with “it takes too much time to get this nice item”, it should! To get a good nice item that’s legit rare and prestigious it should in fact take a long time.
However the way you can farm keys is by making new characters, rushing them to story mission Lv10 and deleting them, rinse and repeat.
That completely breaks actual game play, instead of playing the game and working towards something as you do so, you stopped playing the game and are now creating and deleting characters to use a loophole to get what you need.
It becomes work, not effort, just tedious work.
Edit; for example now you’re guaranteed a key at the personal story Lv10 missions. If they removed that and instead you were guaranteed a key every 10 events you did in game, that would be a good solution, a good alternative.
That way you could actually work towards what you want while playing the game, you could buy keys if you wanted to speed the process up. And since you can get the keys in game while playing the game, it suddenly doesn’t become that expensive anymore – while still requiring time and effort.

The sad part is that you will soon need 5 tickets or 50 scraps to get a weapon…
That is an average of $300 to get a single skin…
The tickets and scraps are permanent so theres no hurry….
It’s not about the hurry of wanting a weapon quick, or a fast reward.
We can take as long as we need to get that 300 dollars for the one in game item – it doesn’t change the fact the item costs 300 dollars.
My personal problem with this isn’t the RNG, I’m fine with RNG – if an item was guaranteed it would be worthless as someone said.
The problem is that the RNG is an RNG that you only get from paid items, expensive items.
The dragon coffers or the fortune scraps were a great way to implement RNG in the game. You could get it just by playing the game, and if you were lucky you managed to get what you wanted, or if you really wanted it you could pay for either special RNG boxes or a bunch of the kite fortunes.
It wasn’t exclusively paid content RNG, that’s where the issue lies. In 2 weeks they’ll cost 5 tickets and you can’t get them from the events anymore, the only efficient way to obtain them will be paying actual money at an RNG box.
I’m honestly glad there’s a lot of people talking about this issue, this is one of many threads.
I personally don’t mind RNG, I personally don’t mind paying for some visual items in game… but this is just absurd.
I really don’t think as I’ve stated many times since this has been out, that Anet really meant to charge 300 dollars on one skin.
Right now they’re going for about 60 dollars in keys, which is already an absurd amount. Paying 10 dollars alone is already a high cost for one item when the game costs about 50 dollars, that’s 20% of what you paid for the game in one purchase.
But to charge 300 dollars for one item is absurd, that’s 600% of the original cost for the entire game purchase.
This really needs to be addressed, it’s not even about “oh I wanna buy that item but it’s too expensive”, my main character is a Necro, I want nothing to do with those items, it doesn’t match the look.
This is about the absurd unreasonable way they’re going about this, 300 dollars for an item is just unheard of. Even if I didn’t want the item, if they’re charging that much for one item it makes me feel uneasy about the future of the game.
I’m legit disappointed in Anet with all of this. I’ve spent money in the game in the past, I spend a lot of money in fact.
I spend money every single month… but 60 dollars to buy a weapon is just unreasonable.
Even more so that in 2 weeks they’ll cost 50 scraps to get… that’s 300 dollars.
Did you get that? 300 dollars for one weapon.
I’d rather buy a PS4 than an in game item for that money. This is unreasonable beyond belief.
This is ridiculous. A 50% drop rate for scraps would already have a pretty price tag for weapons (20 keys now, 100 keys after 2 weeks). Now it’s apparently 5 times as much.
Come on, how is this in any way reasonable? Even if you have a guaranteed drop of a scrap from every chest it remains a expensive. I’m sure they’re just worried of BLkey farming, but then address that problem instead.
Right? Even if you had a guaranteed drop from each chest it would still be 900 gems for 10 scraps, that’s more than 10 dollars.
Or in 2 weeks 50 dollars for each weapon with a guaranteed drop (wow this is still way too much money for a weapon).
I’m just completely baffled and amazed at how absurd this is.
Same problem here.
Got a ticket and 2 scraps in my first 13 chests.
Blew 45g on about 15 more chests or so. No ticket, 3 scraps, and some TOTAL makeover kit and transmutation crystals. And Midnight Ice dye!
I can’t say I’m not disappointed, but I am pretty satisfied with what I got from the chests.
What baffles me though, is the fact after 2 weeks we will need 5 tickets to get one Aetherized weapon, when it’s hard enough just to get one.
You’re joking, 5 tickets? I must have missed that somewhere, now that is unreasonable! That’s from 300-500 dollars on a weapon (not counting random tickets)…
That’s… what… huh, that’s just not… I don’t…
See it this way:
The skins could be only available during this event, and not again until next year (or ever). But, this time you can still buy them after the event is over, but for a really high price. The price is crazily high, but still better than no price and no skin at all. I’m not playing this lottery any more, got 10 keys + 3 from drop, spent 32g on it, got a celestial dye (around 20g) so part of my gold was returned, and I’m done with the lottery. Was a nice try, no luck though. 5 total scraps. Luckilly I don’t even like the skins, just hoped for a lucky 80g skin to sell on TP.
The bottom line here is, things are improving.
Before, you either got a skin or not. Now you get scraps so some progress is happening. The drop rate should be better though. I’d give 100% chance for a scrap to drop, 25% chance for 2 scraps, 5% for 3 scraps, and 1% for a ticket. But I’d rise the cost of a ticket to 40 scraps. This way, each chest opened would contribute to the ticket.
Honestly, I’d rather the weapons be cheaper yet limited than available for ever yet as expensive as a video game console.
I don’t care that I can get this in 3 years, because unless I spend money to get these chests, I’m not gonna get these weapons in 5 years.
I’m not even against spending money either, I’ve spent a lot of money in this game, I support Anet, I enjoy their game and enjoy what they’re doing so I wanna show my support… but this is just ridiculous.
