Got a ticket and 2 scraps in my first 13 chests.

Blew 45g on about 15 more chests or so. No ticket, 3 scraps, and some TOTAL makeover kit and transmutation crystals. And Midnight Ice dye!

I can’t say I’m not disappointed, but I am pretty satisfied with what I got from the chests.

What baffles me though, is the fact after 2 weeks we will need 5 tickets to get one Aetherized weapon, when it’s hard enough just to get one.

You’re joking, 5 tickets? I must have missed that somewhere, now that is unreasonable! That’s from 300-500 dollars on a weapon (not counting random tickets)…

That’s… what… huh, that’s just not… I don’t…

Wow… seriously I’d rather buy a PS4 for that money instead of a one single weapon.

On that note, they said that there will be future weapons that will be obtained the same way, using the black lion scraps.

Now seriously if the future weapons they release will be obtained via this method, I’m genuinely saddened by this. In the past some weapons were obtained with grinding, RNG, or purchases, I did my best to obtain at least one or two of all the past weapons – whether that be grinding, RNG, or purchase.

However if they decide to stick to this method, making their weapons cost 60-100 dollars each, I’m just really disappointed – I’ll have to deal with just not getting them ever again.

60-100 dollars on a weapon just isn’t worth it. It’s just not logical.

I really doubt Anet would do something like this on purpose, it’s charging from 60-100 dollars on a weapon. That’s just unheard of, it’s completely unreasonable and they’re not an unreasonable group.

I really honestly think they made it a common drop thinking being such it should drop pretty frequently, but didn’t take into account that when there are so many common drops it becomes a very rare thing to get.

I’m just saddened by the fact that even if this isn’t working as intended they can’t change it now, because imagine the outrage they would be faced with if they decided to increase the drop rate of the scraps now – when people already spent hundreds of keys getting them.

Imagine the negativity they would be bombarded with by people who spent so much to get them, only to have them be made easier to get soon after.

So I’m worried we’ll be stuck with weapons that cost 60-100 dollars, and sadly I’m just not willing to spend that much money on them.

Personal opinions are all great but that’s all that is; your personal opinion.

It is so grossly your personal opinion that you stated that you enjoyed sanctum sprint, another mini game just like any other mini game – so your issue isn’t even with mini games, it’s with mini games you don’t like.

I personally hated crab toss, and aspect arena. Yet I loved sanctum sprint and southsun survival.

So let’s say you got 1 scrap every 5 chests, that means to get 10 scraps you’ll need to open 50 chests.

50 black lion keys go for 4500 gems (if you buy in bundle), 4500 gems goes for about 55 dollars… so if you’re lucky… you can get that weapon if you pay 55 dollars for it…

While in reality it seems that the drop rate is much lower than 1 every 5 boxes, since Vox opened 125 chests and got 13 tickets. So let’s say he got 10 tickets at about 100 chests… that’s over 100 dollars wasted (I obviously assume he had stored up the keys) to get one weapon…

This cannot be working as intended.

Feedback: in-game candidate info is poorly messaged

I actually agree completely, not just this one specific LS but everything that is added in general is very badly explained.

This includes the new mini games they add where you have no tutorial or explanation of the skills. There’s a few very vague bullet points when you start up but then you’re tossed in the middle of chaos confused on what exactly to do while you’re getting your kitten kicked.

Even the actual core ideas and activities in the new LS is badly explained or lack information. Even if you read up online there’s still so much information not given.

For example how the support buttons work, why do I wanna use them to do hearts, events, dungeons etc? Is it only for achievements? Does it add anything to the voting? Does supporting them actually do anything? Why would they say we should do hearts with the buttons if there’s no achievement for the hearts… I mean I’m just left all around confused.

It’s also true there’s no information on what each candidate will give you in game, half of my guild had no idea. Why you should vote for them, how it works… I mean the list goes on.

It’s not just this LS as I previously said, every LS released has made me more confused than anything else. Usually I prefer trying to figure out what to do myself instead of looking it up online, but with the devastating lack of information given to players in game it’s pretty frustrating.

I’d like a dungeon token collectible tab. Now if you have 4k CoF tokens, I don’t feel sorry for you :P Also delete useless items.

An increase to 1k for collectibles would be nice also.

I agree that some items really need a bigger stack than 250. Tokens for example, some armor pieces need more than 250 alone; but then again my hope with that is that they make it a currency (since you know… that’s what it is…) instead of an item.

I agree with this issue.

I mean the tokens and all that can’t be traded and can be used by any of your characters so it honestly makes no sense as to why they’re physical items. It made sense in the beginning when dungeon tokens were soulbound to characters but they removed that and now it serves no purpose.

Also you can’t say “just buy more slots”, I personally have 8 bank slots bought, 8 bag slots on my main character, have 9 character slots all filled with characters. And my bank space alone is already exploding, and that’s because I don’t even have that many tokens.

Your inventory gets filled pretty quick with all the spare armors for different builds, town clothes, fun items, black lion items, flutes, brooms, etc.

I mean this space management madness needs to end, I have half of a bank tab completely filled with honor badges alone…

Imagine if you had to store karma in your inventory, or laurels, or gold… how insane would that be. That’s pretty much exactly the same thing as storing dungeon tokens, badges of honor etc.

In most MMOs the thought is I’ll take my low level character into a high level area, thus I’ll get the high level rewards and level faster.

That’s not how it works in this game, you’re rewarded based on your level. So if you’re level 70 and go do events in a level 20 area you’ll get decent EXP rewards for those events and for discovering points of interests, vistas etc.

Also on that note, monster killing is what rewards least EXP in this game, so even if you were able to kill monsters above or equal to your level, don’t expect to get any levels fast enough just by that.

Fastest way to get levels is by crafting or playing WvW. Although in all honesty I recommend you to just play the game normally, you get levels pretty fast as it is.

The day Anet releases an armor/weapon that matches a necromancer’s look will be… never mind I’m not even gonna think about it.

I wish I could be getting excited for the new gear being added but dammit my necro isn’t gonna wear a single piece.

Yeah ummm didn’t take them long… this was in the Halloween event-

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Scythe_Staff_Skin

Yes because one single very plain and dull looking weapon that was nearly as difficult to achieve as a legendary makes up for the constant barrage of new gear that’s being added multiple times a month.

Not to mention when necros use their staff there’s a scythe animation already on it, which kind of gets in the way of that scythe and makes it look a bit lame.

Either way it’s true that there was one or two single sole weapons added that match a necro’s look. But compared to the multiple armors sets, and various weapon sets that gets added all the time, two ugly impossible to get weapons that were added early on just… you know?

It’s pretty disheartening when almost a year later you’ve gotten new gear for most of your alts yet your necro which is your main most favorite character is using the same Arah armor from months back…

That’s not even going into the fact no legendary weapon looks somewhat decent on a necro so that’s something else I don’t have :C

What should I have done in a zerg, that no one speaks to eachother in, has no damage meter, tanking or healing; to stand out as Rudolph the kittening Reindeer?

The concept may be hard to grasp, but if you wanted to talk to people, you could have tried talking to people to see if anyone wanted to engage in conversation.

I can’t help but laugh at the idea of damage meters or tanking to increase social interaction.

Also to add to what you said; if you wanted to talk to people and interact, get on Team Speak.

Most people don’t talk in chat during WvW for example because it’s thousands of times more convenient to simply talk in TS; you know with actual voices instead of having to stop and type whenever you need to say something in the heat of the moment.

that may be true, any sweeping changes been made since release? i know 1 problem this game had was “lack of end game” is this still true?

have classes changed quite a bit? or are they mostly the same?

Lots of classes only got nerfed, based on a PvP format almost no one plays…
& Farming COF is currently your “End Game” (but only if you’re a Warrior/Mesmer).

Enjoy…

Are you serious?

First off, lots of classes got nerfed? I don’t see how that’s possible since the last update alone buffed every single class out the window. Now you look at a classes’ most powerful build, see it got downgraded slightly and suddenly think the class got nerfed.

That’s not the case, Anet themselves said they wanted to make other builds more viable, they buffed EVERY aspect from every classes while spreading what made one specific build so strong to other builds.

Moving half of the stunbreaks from elementalist cantrips to other skills.

And rangers got the shortbow range reduced (to me that makes perfect sense, I find it weird how it was the same range as a longbow) and some pets deal less damage but every other more lacking part of their other builds got a buff, the longbow is finally usable; finally!

Second; based on PvP format almost no one plays? Are we honestly playing the same game? A few months ago PvP was a ghost town, now I go into sPvP and see so many rooms completely full with people playing, on standard and custom arenas alike.

Even WvW is better with all the latest fixes. It was a very frequent occurrence that one server would get stuck fighting the same two servers for a long long time and would lose hope and wouldn’t play.
Now with the better match ups, servers which never bothered playing are getting back in the game.

Finally; farming CoF is endgame? The people who farm CoF are actually such a minority, I’ve played since the release and I play a LOT and I never farmed CoF. I’ve ran it a couple times just for the sake of wanting to complete every dungeon and never again; yet I have plenty of things to do.

So everyone is entitled to their opinions and even though there’s a lot of opposing opinions in this thread what you said was just so completely uninformed and false that I couldn’t help but speak up.

A lot of people get used to the changes and forget they were changes.

Depends on when you stopped playing but there’s fractals, dungeons were rebalanced. Most professions got huge makeovers and a lot of underpowered professions are finding their way up (although engineers and rangers still have a way to go).

New guild missions, new currencies like laurels, guild commendations. Guild challenges, treks, bounty hunts. New PvP maps, custom arenas, spectator mode.

WvW also got some love, less culling, new WvW character levels with new abilities you can get.

They’re doing living story which every 2 weeks they add a temporary and permanent change to the game, etc.

Since I too got used to most of the changes I forget a lot of changes were changes, so just go in and see for yourself.

Also depends on what you mean by endgame. Guild Wars is still Guild Wars, it has no raids and gear treadmills or that such, but there’s a lot to do at Lv80 – you just can’t expect to play WoW in GW2, they’re different games.

Seriously now, it’s the 2nd set of flaming armor they’re adding into the game, along with the new set of flaming weapons they added… where’s the simple elegant armor? :C

I only used that as an example to say no matter how good something might be you’ll always find people who hate it; so don’t fret too badly over them.

If you wanna debate if a chef likes durians or not fine but that doesn’t discredit the achievement point system, and doesn’t really fall into the topic we’re talking about here.

I personally think the achievement system is the best thing yet, no RNG, no direct farming. You play the game regularly, explore everywhere and do everything and you’ll get rewarded naturally.

I’m looking forward to that like you wouldn’t believe, and I don’t even have that many achievement points, just 5,500. If I don’t unlock everything right off the bat that’s fine, if I have to work towards something that’s great.

I don’t mind not having everything instantly handed to me, it makes finally getting what you want that much more satisfying.

This is why I only log in for the LA skin of the month, the aesthetic of the game is just going completely away from my tastes. Need some more elegant/ornamental/slick stuff added(like the new rapier and pistol) for me to get interested or excited again.

That stuff just looks dumb to me, but to each their own of course.

I’m 100% with you, where’s the elegant, simpler non shiny looking stuff?
Every single armor they added, but more importantly every single weapon they added just didn’t catch my interest in the slightest; it’s all so flashy.

I wanna look sleek, pretty and elegant not look like a christmas tree.

Don’t get me wrong I understand some people like that kind of stuff and great for them, it’s nice that they’re adding that into the game. But for us who don’t fancy that kind of exaggerated look, we’re kind of getting the short end of the stick.

On a more personal note; once more necromancers being ignored aesthetically. Not a single armor or weapon they’ve added looks good for a necromancer, the closest thing to a necro they added was sclerite, and barely.

The problem with that is most of the weapons necros could use that were sclerite looked like kitten, the staff and scepter for example; thin long beams of metal with tiny awkwardly placed eye balls at the end with more metallic-like horns growing out of it.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Delryn.7235

Yeah I can wear the simple low level armor if I want but it doesn’t come with any prestige, and to be fair it’s still only so so.

Just for your information – if you go for looks, go for looks. If you are interested in prestige, then… i guess there are no really prestigious armors in this game anyway.

Besides, the “prestige” type armor will always come with particle effects, light beams, whistles, fairy dust clouds and possibly loud announcements, because it’s only function is to make the character noticeable. Good looking, but modest armor sets clearly lack that function – wearing one you won’t stand out in a crowd or be noticeable from half a map away.

Either you want to look good, or want to be noticed. The second comes with particle effects because they draw attention.
People that want “prestige” must sacrifice aestethics in order to be noticed.

That’s not true even slightly. There’s a lot of armors in many games including GW2 which are prestigious and don’t have lasers shooting out of it; Arah for example.

Arah is a pretty prestigious armor, difficult to acquire and doesn’t have particle effects, it’s a very pretty end game armor I think.

When I say prestigious I don’t exactly mean attention calling, legendaries are prestigious and attention calling, I find them all ugly thus I ignore them and I’m happy that way.

We just need more hard to get, end game simpler armors. Honor of the Wave armors are pretty simple looking and they’re a dungeon armor, so yeah.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Delryn.7235

My issue isn’t just with particle affect armor, it’s just that there aren’t a lot of nice, sleek, simple looking high end late game armors.

There’s the low level armors which look exactly that, low level. Then there are some nice looking mid level armors, and the majority of outrageous looking high level armor.

Yeah I can wear the simple low level armor if I want but it doesn’t come with any prestige, and to be fair it’s still only so so.

I’m not saying “REMOVE THE OVER THE TOP ARMORS FROM THE GAME!”, I’m just saying add more simple and/or elegant armors.

On that note, I must say though that GW2 is one of the best games I’ve played in a while when it comes to female armors.

Everything they have in game is reasonable, there’s no metallic bikinis anywhere. There’s sexier armor but it’s not unreasonable, and you have the choice to wear the kind of armor you want; doesn’t have to be revealing and doesn’t have to be modest.

But… I play males and not females and I’m slightly dissatisfied by the male armors, I think they all look too clunky and bulky, even light armor.

Compare male arah to female arah – female arah looks so much smoother and elegant. The female shoulders look great while the male shoulders looks like a mass of… of I don’t know what, it’s so ugly.

That’s actually something I was thinking of a couple of days ago.

How it’d be amazing if you could do slight modification to some armors. For example turn the fire off on the CoF armor, or for example choose to hide the gears from the new Aetherblade armors – slight customization to armor, like an on off switch.

I feel like it wouldn’t be too complicated of a thing to do and would really go a long way for personalizing your look. I for one completely neglect some armors for these reasons.

The CoF armor set would be my down right favorite armor in the entire game if I could remove the flames. Because of those flames I just don’t use it at all.

Still sad Anet has neglected Necros (which is my main) in the aesthetic department though. There’s a pathetically low amount of necro-looking armors out there and very few necro-looking weapons too.

As far as the new weapons they released all I half liked was the Sclerite weapons which looked so so anyway.

Either way I’m pretty pleased with all these new looks, just waiting for a necro look…

Don’t pretend like this is the mesmer’s only CC skill either saying that the mesmer is the only class that has to announce 1 second before they use a CC skill, mesmers have dozens of instant CC skills.

I’m using a scepter and focus and on multiple occasions when I cast a weapon skill once it’s done casting it simply doesn’t resolve and doesn’t happen – as if it got cancelled by the autoattack.

So far in what I’ve noticed this happened to the fire at. focus 4 skill Flamewall and the water at. scepter 2 skill shatterstone.

Edit; this only happens when I’m autoattacking. For example if I test this outside of combat where my autoattack isn’t activated the spell resolves just fine, but if I’m autoattacking the autoattack cancels the spell.

devs? what is the point of this with individual skills having cooldowns? it just locks me into rotations and encourages spamming.. maybe something friendlier – 4 seconds – I could understand

If there wasn’t weapon swap cooldown, they could have just gave you 10 weapon skills on a 15 slots long skillbar. You are supposed to swap weapons both strategically and tactically, but you are not supposed to swap spam.
Also remember, that the ele equivalent is the attunement swap. Do you really want eles to be able to swap attunements without any significant cooldown?

This is the only logical statement in this thread, I’m honestly baffled by what I’ve read.

Of course weapon swapping needs a cooldown – saying weapon swapping shouldn’t have cooldowns is like saying no skill should have cooldowns, or that you should be able to dual wield a greatsword or some other sort of absurd equivalent ideas.

Cooldown on weapon swap exists for balancing, limiting your spamming ability – not encouraging it and so on.

Me and a variety of other people just opt out from playing these mini games due to the fact we’re playing against what might as well be a bunch of NPCs.

I find them fun and would love to fully enjoy them but sadly I can’t.

I understand the thought behind having 5 people who know each other play together being strategically superior to 5 random people but that just makes them more challenging, doesn’t make them invincible.

You can play with friends in sPvP and although that gives you an advantage over a group of random people it still happens and it’s still fun and fair.

Playing with complete strangers almost entirely removes any fun factor for me, not just me either about 90% of the people I know go in to see the new mini game and get tired of it really fast.

So you can’t enjoy a game that’s meant to be played the way it’s meant to be played. Okay. I’ll enjoy it, even though I am in a guild.

We sit on mumble, we’re all playing, all in different arenas having a good time anyway. This is not meant to be an organized team sport…it’s mean to be a mini-game. The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few…or the one.

No minority should get trampled by the will of a majority, but this is entirely beyond the point.

There’s a lot in GW2 and a variety of other games I don’t entire agree with but still enjoy, this is something I went into with the mindset of liking it but just got completely bored of it minutes later, the lack of immersion and the lack of a more personal experience ruins it for a lot of people.

I’m also sitting next to a friend, we’re both playing separate games while desperately wishing we could be playing the same.

Yep, I agree. This is something that no one should be allowed to ruin for others by having their whole guild in there. Imagine one guy against a guild that was trying to target just him. It’s a recipe for griefing.

I have a big guild too, but allowing teams to play with effectively ruin this game for most players.

Well Dragon Ball is limited to 5 players per team. And if an entire team targets one person they’ll most certainly lose.

The reason a game such as Team Fortress is so fun is because you can play with friends and know who you’re killing or helping, it gives a more satisfying, personal, and pleasurable experience.

If in Team Fortress for example you were forced to go into random games it wouldn’t be half the success it is today.

Same for GW2 sPvP, if you couldn’t play with friends I wouldn’t even bother playing it.

You can play with friends in sPvP and although that gives you an advantage over a group of random people it still happens and it’s still fun and fair.

Playing with complete strangers almost entirely removes any fun factor for me, not just me either about 90% of the people I know go in to see the new mini game and get tired of it really fast.

Dragon Ball - Can't Play With Friends

This is something that really reduces the amount of fun I could be having with this new really interesting game they added, but when I get a couple friends together to play Dragon Ball we always end up in different games.

It’s pretty frustrating how every single new mini game they add the same thing happens, back in the Halloween update with that hide and seek mini game it was the same problem, crab toss same thing, and now this.

I really can’t enjoy these fun little new additions to their full extend when I’m playing against blank faces while my friends are all in different instances.

damage output TOO HIGH!

It’s a frustrating thing when I get killed in literally one to two seconds while I’m playing with my tank necro that has toughness vitality gear and while in Death Shroud.

Let that sink in; necro, death shroud, toughness vitality gear… insta killed…

Where is underwater combat going?

Underwater Engineers can use their grenade kit which is all ground target, they changed that into simple enemy target. Instead of using ground target underwater you simply throw the grenades at your target.

As far as minions go, I don’t understand why some can and some can’t. Necros for example can use all their minions except the flesh wurm and flesh golem underwater. I understand why the flesh wurm is out since it’s a wurm that crawls out from the ground… but why not the flesh golem? Also the necro’s signet of undeath which is ground target is usable underwater as a ground target (which I think is honestly dumb).

I mean they can convert pretty much all of our abilities and skills to suit underwater combat, so why don’t they? I naturally understand that it’s something that requires time, effort and testing – I just hope it happens and really hope underwater combat doesn’t get abandoned.

When WvW and World Completion Collide

I used to hate WvW and avoid it like the plague, it was simply something I had no desire in doing. The fact I was forced to do it in order to get map completion and to finish monthly before the recent updates was something that really bothered me – and made me despise WvW even more.

However now that all of that’s out of the way, now that I don’t have to do WvW to complete monthly and now that the frustration of map completion is gone I find myself occasionally going into WvW and actually enjoying it. Especially with the new updates which gave me motivation and reasons to actually go in and play it without feeling like I’m forced to do so.

Since day one I was protesting the idea of map completion being tied to WvW. You don’t have to complete PvP areas to get map completion, you don’t even have to complete dungeon areas to get map completion… so why WvW?

Honestly it’d make more sense if you had to complete the points of interests in each dungeon instead of the WvW maps, WvW is a player versus player competitive environment for players who enjoy that kind of thing, if you’re a PvE player you’re forced to PvP to get your map completion.

How’s this then: for a Gift of Exploration, WvW players (those who have WvW map completion and a prerequisite amount of WXP) should not be required to complete a single PVE map.

I like the idea of motivating someone to play something they’d usually not be comfortable with or would usually have no desire to. I don’t like the idea of forcing someone to play something they’d not be comfortable or enjoy doing.

And honestly for a WvW player to get map completion by having to explore the PvE world is not a big deal – it’s time consuming but doable. You’ll never have to wait around for weeks hoping you can explore a specific part of PvE.

While for a PvE player to get map completion by having to explore the WvW map is really mostly based on luck, timing and chance.

Let’s just wait for the pricing. I’m 100 percent sure it will be some fail pricing model and then after a lot of whining be changed to something better a few weeks later.

Right? I mean that’s what happened with guild missions, small guilds were completely excluded from guild missions and there was an uproar in the community – and then they released the guild training missions to help get you to guild missions… couldn’t they have done that from the start?

I’m usually very skeptical with the constant uproars of the community; Anet’s not dumb, they’re a decent and intelligent company. I’m sure when they make a decision they have their reasons and motives, thoughts and plans.

However some decisions they make really should be a bit more clear as to why they made them. I don’t doubt there’s a reason behind it, but keeping us in the dark with the why to their decisions isn’t a cool thing to do.

It only sparks controversy and mistrust.

Completion is doable with this setup. If you want it yesterday, then probably no…. It takes a lot of patience to get the WvW part of it but it can and does happen. That is one of the things that makes this an achievement and something you know you really put the effort in for. I am an average-jane player and just wanted it because of the challenge of doing it appealed to me. I see plenty of people running around with the title over their heads so folk are getting it done.

For the maps you don’t have, there are areas you can get or sneak through to get those POI and views (actually, that was a LOT of fun to do those bits). Then you wait for map rotation (yeah that…it does take a while) and run into the areas you didn’t have access to formerly. No one says you have to actually participate in the WvW activities though I did get caught up in a few on my quest and enjoyed running with the mobs, helping out and picking up a POI or two while I did it.

Initially, I did not check that often in WvW to see what parts of the map were open and only really paid attention once I had nearly all the rest of the areas on the other maps. Otherwise it might not have taken as long for me to complete. Only advice is to check every time you log in to see what you might have access to, take advantage of any opportunities and be patient, very patient.

I honestly think that’s a bit unfair and unrealistic to a lot of people. There are many servers which get stuck with the same color for months, it happened to me.

Originally I was completely against switching servers just to get map completion, I thought; “I should be able to get my achievements on my own server through my own hard work, without having to cheat and switch servers”. However after weeks and weeks and weeks of it never switching I got tired of that and decided to just switch servers to get WvW completion.

I honestly felt like I was cheating the game when I did that – but I had no option! My server stayed the exact same color for months, imagine how long before it finally switched… but then I’d have to wait again for it to switch again.

At least I had the privilege of free transfers, it’s unfair that people are stuck without being able to get map completion because of this one aspect of the game. Some servers don’t do too well for themselves and usually don’t own what’s their own territories in the map… so people in these servers are forced to not have map completion? Or are forced to pay and switch out leaving behind their guilds and friends to be able to finally get map completion? That’s just not fair.

I myself was against how WvW and map completion interacted with each other before I had map completion, and now that I do have map completion I’m still against it. Just because I don’t have to deal with this bullkitten anymore doesn’t make it any more fair for all those other people who do.

Worst part is each time token only adds one day, so unless you’re playing every single day, it’s really not worth it. I really like PvP but I only play it a couple times a week when I’m able to play GW2

Wait, what?! Wouldn’t you rather have a token you can slot in when you want to play for 1 day, rather than one for a month and it’s just being wasted if you only play a couple times a month?

My thoughts exactly – tho more tedious to manage, paying on a day to day basis circumvents you getting screwed; if for some reason you don’t have time to play for 5 days straight, you didn’t lose 5 days out of a month.

Oops my bad, that came out wrong. What I meant with that was that having to pay to keep an arena you purchased is bull, instead of having to pay to buy an arena and then having to pay to keep the arena you already bought, I imagine it’d be better if instead of having to pay to keep your arena, they charge us with paying in buying expansions and upgrades for your arena.

I was also thinking how it’d be sad if for whatever reason you haven’t played PvP in a while and one day you realize your arena is deleted because you forgot to add a day here or there.

Either way, I didn’t think about two things when opposing paying for your arena.

One; that they’d actually have to pay for a server to host the arenas in.

Two; imagine if you could buy an arena, keep it for ever and end. I imagine a huge number of people would be willing to buy the arena and just play for themselves in their own arena. This would make the original PvP servers of the game an empty barren wasteland since everyone could just buy their own private arenas. And since everyone could just for ever have their own private arenas, why play in anyone else’s?

However that being said, though I’m not as against time tokens as I previously was, I think to avoid any sort of commotion Anet needs to address the details of both why exactly they decided to go with time tokens, and how they’ll work – soon.

I’m willing to buy a couple tokens here and there to play when I feel like it, and then just leave it unpaid for a while until I feel like playing again. However only if time tokens are at a reasonable price and if the grace period before it gets deleted is at least a year (I feel like that’s a bit too much to ask for, but if the grace period is only a month or two that’s way too little).

Honestly how frustrating would it be to buy something to only later find out it got deleted and you have to buy it again. I’m completely against that idea.

Edit; @Evilapprentice – that’s exactly my thoughts on it. If paying a subscription which gives you access to an entire game is on average 12-15 dollars, anything more than that to keep one single aspect of a game is ridiculous.

In fact charging it exactly that is already ridiculous, reasonably to keep a private PvP arena I imagine charging some 5 dollars a month should be decent. That’s 15 time tokens for 200 gems.

Anything beyond 10 dollars a month is ridiculous though.

hum, i had assumed it would be active continuously, not something you turn on for a day once or twice a week.

Arenas are active for 1 month when you purchase the starter. After the month you are responsible for purchasing tokens for X amount of gems. Use of 1 token will add 1 day of use to the arena. You can use multiple tokens at the same time to add multiple days at once, or ration tokens over a period of time if you will not use the arena every day.

The question now is, how long is this grace period from when the arena goes inactive until the arena is deleted. As far as I know only ANet know this answer right now, but I would really like to hear a response on this point.

Also a big question in my mind is; how much are the tokens? I don’t care for the price of the arena (too much, it depends on how long it can stay inactive before being deleted) but I do care for the price of the token.

Below 200. We know that much. At that price it will cost around 10 gold to convert from gold to gems to token. In my mind I am preparing myself for 200, but logically I am thinking it will be more like 100. I just cant imagine them charging people the cost of 6,000 gems a month to have an arena, especially when they will not allow you to make money off of casting, and expect people to be happy with that.

At one token for 100 gems, I can’t imagine them charging people 3000 gems a month to have an arena. That’s about 40 dollars a month just to keep an arena alive? WoW’s monthly subscription fee for the entire game isn’t that much, to pay so much for one aspect of the game is just ridiculous.

Really, that is just completely illogical and unreasonable and I honestly can’t imagine they would actually do that, it just plain old makes literally no sense to do that.

Honestly it’d make more sense if you had to complete the points of interests in each dungeon instead of the WvW maps, WvW is a player versus player competitive environment for players who enjoy that kind of thing, if you’re a PvE player you’re forced to PvP to get your map completion.

I would make two comments regarding this. First, guild wars is a PvP oriented game, always has been. This leads to the second comment, and that is that PvE is dogkitten in this game anyway. If you are a PvE player you really should be looking for another game.

I’m sorry but you just said a lot of wrong things. Guild Wars 1 was a PvP oriented game in which the PvE was dogkitten. However through expansions they improved the PvE of it and it became an all ’round great game.

GW2 not only is not a PvP oriented game but GW2 gets more PvE attention than it does PvP. I personally play PvE, WvW, and PvP. I mostly play PvE, I’d play PvP more if there were more people playing PvP but this game has a LONG way to go before PvP gets good, and WvW is now playable with some recent updates because it was dogkitten before.

In the end GW 2 isn’t a PvE game, and isn’t a PvP game – it’s just an all ’round great game. It has good PvE parts and good PvP parts, has some PvE flaws and some PvP flaws. But as it stands PvE is getting most of the love and is the most complete part of the game.

However whether GW2 is a PvE or PvP game isn’t even the point of this thread. The point is WvW should either not be part of map completion because of how it works or should be fixed to better suit the map completion needs it serves.
