Custom Arena - Time Tokens

Either way, deleting it at all isn’t right. It’s as if this game had a subscription fee (because in the end that’s what these custom arenas have), but if you didn’t play for a month or so you’d have to buy the game again.

I spent money on this game, I bought this game, I didn’t rent it. If arenas cost a lot (a lot being around half of the game’s price) I’ll be very upset if it gets deleted.

I think awarding 1 time token in the daily pvp is fair, if you play PvP enough to finish daily then you should be rewarded as such. Also daily PvP is way too easy, they really need to make it a bit harder.

One token for 100 gems is complete robbery. I play GW2 very often, and when I play it’s for some 3-4 hours and I don’t make 6 gold.

I run a dungeon or two, I run around, play with some low level characters, do some events. In a day of play I get maybe 1-2 gold at best, but I also spend gold with other things in the game, so no I can’t accumulate 6 gold per day to keep an arena alive.

It requires 30 tokens to keep your arena alive a month, 30 tokens should not be more than 5 dollars. If you could buy 15 tokens for 200 gems, I’d be alright with that.

Also I agree with the fact tokens should be obtainable through glory, also you should be able to get tokens (or guaranteed them) in the daily pvp.

If the custom arena costs about $35 then wow I don’t agree with that, the arena alone costs more than half what the entire game costs. However if the arena was a one time buy that stayed active for ever, I wouldn’t mind even paying some 40 dollars on it, as long as it’d last me for ever – but the fact I have to keep adding money on it again and again, that’s just unreasonable.

@Parisalchuk; I don’t agree with one month of inactivity being enough time to delete it. If I spend 35 dollars on it, then something shows up that I have to be away for a month or if I just plain old don’t feel like playing and stay away for a month, I don’t wanna come back to find my near 40 dollars gone, forcing me to pay another near 40 dollars.

I say anything less than an entire year of inactivity is just robbery.

I was about to post the link to the post where they said it’ll be deleted if it’s inactive, but Luthan beat me to it.

So yeah, I wouldn’t even mind it too much if I could not play it, then buy a token and play when I felt like it – but I’m forced to constantly add money on it or else it’s gone for ever, that’s not oki.

Also, tokens cost 100-200 gems? How many tokens cost 100-200 gems, one token? Fine, ten, fifteen? How many?

When WvW and World Completion Collide

Since day one I was protesting the idea of map completion being tied to WvW. You don’t have to complete PvP areas to get map completion, you don’t even have to complete dungeon areas to get map completion… so why WvW?

Honestly it’d make more sense if you had to complete the points of interests in each dungeon instead of the WvW maps, WvW is a player versus player competitive environment for players who enjoy that kind of thing, if you’re a PvE player you’re forced to PvP to get your map completion.

I myself have map completion, I managed to get it before world transfers became paid, so I had a huge advantage over everyone who needs to complete it now – and I think that’s totally unfair.

I managed to just hop between servers and get what I needed and be done with it, even back then when you could do that I was 100% against it, because it ruined WvW for players who actually wanted to play WvW since there were a bunch of people from various servers jumping around to finish the map.

Am I the only one horribly turned off by this idea? I was looking around and couldn’t find anything on this topic.

When Custom Arenas were announced I thought; “wow cool! Finally a way for me to host and have friendly fights with a few close friends of mine. Or to have a few fun duels!”. However, you buy a Custom Arena and then must pay to keep it alive…

Worst part is each time token only adds one day, so unless you’re playing every single day, it’s really not worth it. I really like PvP but I only play it a couple times a week when I’m able to play GW2, so this which was supposed to be a great addition for me just became completely pointless (of course we’ll have to see how much it costs to keep an arena alive, however since each token adds only one day, that’s 30 tokens per month, every month…)

I understand and agree with the idea that Anet needs to get a stable income from the game and I myself always put some money in every now and again when there’s something I wanna buy, I want to support the game I love. However this forces me to almost practically pay a subscription fee each month if I wanna keep a custom arena.

I would understand if the Custom Arena Starter Kit only had the basic stuff an arena should have, and then down the road you could buy upgrades for your arena with gems, for me that would be a much better solution for the issue of the game making money and my issue of being forced to pay to play.

Here are some arguments I might find, and my response to them;

-“But Custom Arenas are meant to be used for more competitive play and thus big guilds should be fine keeping an arena of theirs alive for everyone to enjoy!”
My Reply: Well, that’s what Tournaments are for, and honestly there are a lot of aspects to the custom arena which adds to a more non competitive environment. I’d like to have a password on it and just duel with some friends, or play some fun quirky match styles with a few close friends. Unless I pay a subscription fee that’s not gonna happen.

-“Well you can just get your friends who enjoy playing with you to help keep the arena alive.”
My Reply: We still have to pay a subscription fee, one way or another. And honestly I don’t expect to have that many people playing with me, so it’d be a lot on my friend’s back to keep it alive. Also I would never actually go up to them and tell them ‘hey spend money on the arena’, I know a lot of them are against putting money in the game and I respect that, so in the end at least 90% of it would still fall on me.

-“Just don’t use it, if it’s such a big burden on you don’t get it.”
My Reply: If there were other methods of dueling, or to have some private matches between a few friends; a way for you to have an isolated friendly game, I wouldn’t buy it. Currently as it stands the only way to achieve many of the things I look for in PvP is through the custom arena, however to exploit that with an obligation to pay a constant fee to keep using something you bought, I don’t like that.

Lastly, there are a few concerns I have. They said that if your arena stays unpaid for too long, it’ll be deleted. That was the icing on the cake for me, I would even eventually be oki with paying whenever I felt like playing, but it’s an entirely new problem if I’m forced to pay it frequently or else the money I put in to buy the arena is gone, and I’d have to buy another one just to have it possibly get deleted again.

It happens that I may stop playing GW2 for a few weeks, maybe even a month or more and then come back later and start playing again as feverishly as before, but if every single time I take a little break or have some other life concerns to take care of I have to re-buy my arena… that’s sad.

Of course as it stands we don’t know enough (such as prices, time limit on inactivity etc) to come to any solid conclusion, but so far what we do know made me sad :C

Why one chest per toon instead of account?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Delryn.7235

I have 4 Lv80s yet I only actually play with one of them. I understand the idea that the loot is based off of each character instead of account. If you enjoy playing with your alts it’d be quite sad that you get punished for playing with more than one character.

If someone’s done an event with one character, decides to play with another and is in the area to do the same event again, they should be allowed to do so. Not to mention lots of people share accounts and have a character for each different individual that plays the account, so it’d be a shame that one person’s fun limits the other person’s fun.

I think the real issue here isn’t why loot isn’t account wide… but why loot isn’t world wide. If you’ve done Jormag with said character today, why oh why can you repeat and do Jormag again with the same character if you go to another world? That is what I think shouldn’t happen, if you’ve done Jormag at all with said character you should not be able to repeat it with the same character if you’re guesting.

what to do with the Farming Mass ?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Delryn.7235

MMOs will always have farming, I’d say GW1 is a very “non-farming” game yet there were thousands of people farming everything. Just because farming is what a large amount of people do when they’re done leveling doesn’t mean it’s “this game’s only end-game”.

Now it’s not to say that GW2 is indeed lacking in depth of options, variety and content once you have reached Lv80, but GW2 is a brand new infant game, it’s a new born.

When WoW first came out it didn’t come out with all the expansions, all the fixes, all the classes and races. Things got added over time, fixed over time etc.

People rage on Diablo 3 but forget that when Diablo 2 came out it was a bland, boring, simple game. This idea that development teams are able to drastically change and modify a game from one month to the other is ludicrous.

GW2 is a growing child and it’s growing a LOT faster than most games I’ve ever seen, yet people think it’s not only possible but expected that every month they’re supposed to get an entirely new game worth of added free content. It’s honestly fantastic and amazing what the team is ALREADY doing in the short time the game’s been out.

I think this game is already fantastic and it’s going great places. It’s fun as it is, there is end content though the end of the game does currently feel shallow, but these things take time and more will be added.

So what's the big problem?

I don’t know who bluewanders is talking about… anyway.

It’s honestly sad that people are so emotionally irrational, it’s why I stopped coming to the forums for months and months – however I’ve come back as there’s some small bit of useful information to be had here and there.

They could change the color of the clothes of a random NPC in Lion’s Arch and there would be an uproar that the game is unplayable and dying.

This however doesn’t change the fact that there are errors where there are errors, but also that the game shines where it does. Over all I think this game is fantastic and a growing master piece bound to only get better and better – as it has since day one. But also the game obviously isn’t perfect, things go wrong here and there, but it’s not the end of the world.

Well as far as switching weapons and getting sigil bonus to DS skills, one; can’t you switch, get the sigil bonus and before attacking go into DS and get the bonus anyway? If not I kind of agree with not being able to anyway since that sounds more like an exploit than a feature.

Also I understand the idea of managing cooldowns with DS but it’s not as if you can’t still do that.
As far as weapon switch cooldown goes, I just switch weapons, go into DS, once I come out the cooldown is gone. I understand switching IN DS would give you a bit of a bonus over switching out of DS, but once again – it feels as if that’s more an an exploit than a feature.

In the end it’s not even a HUGE exploit anyway, it’s kind of a small deal. Getting an extra 3 seconds or so on weapon swap cooldowns won’t destroy your play style.

Blizzard managed to do ONE thing right with Diablo 3, minion damage cap.

Witch Doctor (what I used to play) had the issues with minions quickly dying to anything stronger than trash mobs. It was frustrating, people went into the Witch Doctor class thinking they’d be able to play as a minion master but minions were useless as they kept dying again and again and again to any strong encounter. So to solve that issue they created a damage cap to the Witch Doctor minions, they could not take more than a certain percentage of their max HP of damage in one hit (I think it was something like 10-15%).

Necros in GW2 have a similar issue; when fighting the statue of dwayna I honestly just don’t bother summoning my minions at all because the moment they come out she’s able to one shot them. Many many times I summoned my minions and they died before even being able to get to her.

I honestly doubt Anet would EVER implement this idea into necro minions as I don’t doubt they think it’s overpowered. But if minions had a damage cap, such as they could not take more than 25% of their max HP in one hit, at least they’d be able to last a TAD bit longer in those stronger boss fights. Sadly they’re pretty pathetic against bosses.

If it’s one thing that the human race is capable of, it’s the ability to be drama queens.

Really though I loved this new update and it gave me all the warm and fuzzies.
I am part of a small 25 people guild in which there’s rarely more than 5 people on at once. I’ve been playing since launch and I don’t have a single tree at rank 5 yet (to be fair I switched servers half way, if I didn’t I would have literally ONE tree at rank 5 today).

This means that most likely I will NEVER get to experience guild missions, this saddens me and it’s the one thing about this update which was a big let down – HOWEVER! It’s not the end of the world, I still enjoy the game, I still play as I would regularly and I don’t hate life because of this. It’s a part of life, people need to get over the idea they’re entitled to everything.

Now I do believe that there should be some minor lesser guild missions available earlier such as in rank 3, but maybe Anet will add that along the way. For the time being, I’m enjoying myself just fine.

I understand everyone has their own opinions but how as Anet nerfed everything?

As far as class balance goes EVERY class got ONLY buffs and no nerfs; as far as I know that alone means they didn’t nerf everything.

New daily is a great improvement to what it was before, now with more variety and greater options I manage to complete daily just by playing the game, if I don’t go underwater while playing it’s fine, I don’t have to do underwater kills if I don’t want to.

Honestly people are just complaining for the sake of complaining. Now don’t get me wrong, if there’s a problem here or there I don’t ignore it, I’ve spoken my mind many times about problems, bugs and issues which greatly upset me various times – however good things are good, bad things are bad. And this patch was made of kitty orgasms.

I am sad that guild missions are so high end and my small guild will probably never do them, but hey, it’s a part of life.

Also I wonder if Anet increased the size capacity of areas, it’s been months since I would go to Lion’s Arch and NOT be put in an overflow, now since the Feb 26th patch I’ve yet to go to an overflow even once.

Please don’t change this. Yes this large scale content is harder for small guilds to access, but that is ok. We need larger scale content.

My guild of 500 is very excited for this content and progression. The vast majority of players like this chance at progression and large scale content. Please don’t ruin it to satisfy the small minority of small guilds.

A minority’s needs should not be ignored to please the needs of a majority, that being said the opposite is also true. A majority’s need should not be ignored to please the needs of a minority.

As I previously said I’m all up for difficult, hard to get, exclusive content. The Karka one time event I thought was fantastic, I loved the idea of one time events that people would just have to deal if they missed.

That being said, I don’t think ALL events ever made should be one time events. As such I don’t think ALL guild missions should be reserved for large guilds.
YES there should be guild missions that only large guilds will easily get and small guilds will struggle endlessly with, HOWEVER there should also be guild missions that are more laid back that small guilds can also do.

Ignoring one player base completely isn’t right, just like doing only one time events isn’t right.

Delryn.7235

So, the ‘guild’ content should really just be open to everyone. 1 to 3 man groups should be able to do it, without first putting in a little effort?

I sympathize with the smaller guilds because that is a lot of influence even for guilds with 10-15 active members. But if you have a few more than 3-4 active members, you should be able to come up with ways to unlock this content without too much problem.

If you can’t unlock the content due to resources, how in the world do you expect to do the content designed for coordinated play between more than just 2-3 people?

If you want the perks of a larger guild, you either got to put in more effort/resources or get more members. I know, neither sound very attractive.

I love the idea of a high end difficult goal to achieve that takes effort and time and not everyone can do it.

HOWEVER, to release the FIRST level of guild missions at such a high end cost is a bit too much.

I think the logical thing to have done was release a more simple and basic level of guild missions at rank 3, that way smaller guilds of 10ish people can do the lowest level guild missions. These should still be difficult, but obvious less difficult than the rank 5 missions, cost less and ALSO reward a LOT less.

While on average the new guild missions award a min of 2 rares, 2 commendations and 50 silver, the rank 3 guild missions I was thinking of should be easier to get but also award less, let’s say no commendation, 2 greens and 8 silver. That gives smaller guilds something to do while still leaving that huge goal to achieve…

Because even though I like the idea of a difficult goal, it doesn’t change the obvious fact that doing so with no other alternative will damage smaller guilds in a horrible dramatic degree.

Huh? why would you pay? I thought the whole point of letting people “cheat” by buying gold with real money was that the rest of us legit players would benefit from them developing the game with that money. I cant accept a game that lest people get ahead by paying with real money AND want me to spend real money to play the content. Thats not going to work for me, good luck to Anet with that one.

And that’s why casual people hate elitist jerks. I pay for your game. A minimum of respect would be appreciated.

I’m not cheating and you’re not playing legit.

You are cheating, youre paying to get ahead, its like a sport where youd pay the referees for more points instead of scoring yourself. And youre not paying for my game, i already bought the game. What youre paying for is cheating. Anet can pocket that money or give fund development. Its up to them. If they pocket it and want me to play with cheaters, forget it. Why do you think F2P games with cash shops dont charge ANYTHING, this game want to charge me for a box, let cheaters into the game, and want me to pay more? no thanks.

This person is cray cray, it’s not as if paying for buying a new game or new game content is something new and unheard of. It’s kind of obvious, where the heck are they supposed to find the money to develop the new expansion if they don’t charge for the new expansion?

People keep talking as if having to pay for things is this horrible evil phenomenon, it’s a natural part of life. You pay for EVERYTHING, you pay for so many things you hate paying for every day, why don’t you feel proud about paying to help support something you truly like and believe in?

When Anet releases new shop items bought with gems usually I use actual money to buy those things because I wanna give them my support. After all there’s no subscription to this game, they deserve it. It’s like an investment in something you really love, and I love this game.

I mean it’s not as if these issues aren’t a serious detriment to game play, it should be addressed.

These loading, lag, and crashing issues can be so severe that I had a friend who almost lost a character because of it. She was travelling from Lion’s Arch to the Black Citadel and the loading screen was as usual horribly long, however it never ended and her game crashed while her character was in the loading screen.

Somehow, her character got caught stuck neither in Lion’s Arch nor in the Black Citadel and she couldn’t play her character, whenever she tried getting on said character the game would crash. It was a pretty frustrating and worrisome issue, after days and days of customer support the only way she was able to recover her character was by uninstalling GW2 and reinstalling it all over again.

The game just gets heavier and heavier, slower and slower, and laggier and laggier.

Stealth and enemy resetting

I would imagine a simple solution to this is that even if you’re in stealth, as long as you’re actually near the enemy and as long as YOU’RE still engaged to the enemy, he should still be engaged to you and thus not reset.

Sure if you stealth and run away and disengage the enemy he should reset. However as long as you’re still there near the enemy and still in battle with him, there’s no reason he shouldn’t still be in battle with you.

Stealth and enemy resetting

in Thief

Posted by: Delryn.7235

Delryn.7235

I have no idea how any of this may couse you problems. I have leveled my thief solely with d/d and shortbow, direct damage build. The moment i started having trouble with reseting skill challanges and realized why this is happening i equiped caltrops = problem solved. Simple mobs do not reset that fast. If they reset before you can position yourself to next stealth attack you have serious issues with your character controlling.

The thing is there’s many traits which benefits the longer you’re in stealth, regen health and initiative regen while in stealth come to mind. So I WANT to remain in stealth until the last moment to get the most out of it.

As I said (not sure if you read or not) I’m forced to play condition to keep something on them so they don’t reset. However MANY enemies reset if they’re not engaged, even if they’re still taking bleed damage.

Further more MANY enemies reset if they’re disengaged for only a mere (literally) one second, ONE second. This specific skill challenge reset the moment I went into stealth.

A boss I’m familiar with; Lupicus, he will for example reset instantly, and I do mean exactly instantly if he’s not engaged. So a group stealth in that battle means you have to redo it even if you stay in stealth for no more than a mere second.

As I said (again not sure if you read), simple trash mobs will not reset on me as long as I keep them bleeding which is why I’m doing condition damage, however bosses and other enemies do still reset even if they’re bleeding.

Stealth and enemy resetting

in Thief

Posted by: Delryn.7235

Delryn.7235

This has been something INSANELY infuriating for me lately. My thief is built around being in stealth almost always, giving him stealth in various ways and getting benefits from staying in stealth for a long time.

HOWEVER in this game enemies reset the moment they aren’t engaged. I am pretty much forced to play condition to try to counter this, in general if I’m fighting an enemy and I go in stealth he would reset, but because he has bleeds he can’t reset until the bleeds go away, so I have time to get my stealth benefits before going back into the fight.

Fine except many many enemies in the game (generally all enemies that aren’t trash mobs) actually reset anyway, most of them reset the INSTANT you go in stealth. This includes most if not all bosses (Lupicus comes to mind), and other things such as skill challenges.

Let me tell you of a story I just went through before having enough of this bull and rage quitting;

As I said my thief is built around stealth, even if I didn’t wanna use stealth in combat he WILL go into stealth at one point or another, I mean my heal is stealth also so I don’t have much of a choice.
I was in Mount Maelstrom doing a skill challenge – the Inquest golem fight in the dungeon entrance area. I was fighting him and at one point I went into stealth and tried moving around him to set myself up to continue fighting, unfortunately he reset no more than a second after I went in stealth, even though he was bleeding, confused and poisoned.

Alright, darn that was annoying but it’s alright, so I can’t STAY in stealth when fighting him even though he has conditions, fine. So I tried again this time COMPLETELY ignoring all my skills that used stealth in hopes that he wouldn’t reset, however I have various traits and passives that put me in stealth whether I want it or not, and I need to heal, which stealths me.

So I tried again, got him down to about 30% HP after quite a long while since I had to virtually ignore most of how my build worked to fight this guy, then automatically I went into stealth and then tried hitting him as fast as possible so he wouldn’t reset.
Yay! I hit him and came out of stealth before he reset… except I didn’t, even though I was hitting him he walked back to his initial spot, sat down and fully healed… WHAT?!

What kind of insanity is this? You can’t make enemies reset the instant they are disengaged when you throw a stealth mechanic in the game like this, it just makes no sense. In every fight I have to cringe in fear in hopes my enemies don’t reset once I go in stealth… this is ridiculous, it frustrates me and makes me simply not wanna play a thief when his core class mechanic is so counter productive.

My main isn’t a thief even though I quite enjoyed toying around with one, got one up to Lv74. I don’t frequent the thief forums since my main isn’t a thief but I have to wonder… is something being done about this? About the issue of thieves simply not being able to play alone because the moment they go into stealth whatever they’re fighting just fully heals. Not to mention that many thief skills is a party stealth, so that kind of screws things over for the entire party if everyone is in stealth.

I can only assume this issue is at least being looked into, otherwise stealth more often than not is a greater hindrance to the class than anything else when facing strong enemies.

TL;DR version: Enemies reset the moment I go into stealth, ruining the thief’s core class mechanic and being nothing short of annoying. Is something being done about this?

Lag Spikes and Loading Screens

In the early days I had no issue what so ever with lag or loading in the game. I was able to play just fine and I’d experience a small bit of lag maybe once a month if even that.

It was all perfect, precise, flawless and all that good stuff. Loading screens wouldn’t take more than some 5 seconds to load… however everything changed when the fire nation attacked.

Now in all seriousness I’ve been noticing it all getting worse and worse with each new content being released in the game, starting with halloween I’ve had a bit more lag but nothing too bad, loading screens slightly more. Then came the karka event which ridiculously spiked lag and loading.

Before, even when playing WvW I had not a one single lag issue, (other than the fact players took like 5-10 seconds to actually appear on screen, but that’s another issue). However the karka event was the big turning point, lag everywhere, lion’s arch loading time become ridiculous, and as time went by it got worse and worse.

Today when waypointing to Lion’s Arch I just alt tab to another screen, to facebook maybe and stay there checking facebook for a minute or two because the loading has become unbearable. To top it all off, lately if I don’t experience any lag in a day it’s a lucky day for me.

Not only has the loading time went way up but I’ve been having lag almost every single day for hours a day in which playing has become nearly impossible… kind of a shame… really sad because I WANT to play but I’m just not able to.

Guild Wars (one) had a better balance between melee and ranged, you had your melee characters and you had your ranged – it was all fine and dandy. Your melee would run in and and do what they did while the ranged stayed back doing what they did.

Though Guild Wars had a better balance for melee and ranged there were still some places where melee was at a horrible disadvantage. Me and a friend were doing a mission and we had a few henchmen in the party, the mission was insanely difficult because when we did it we were under leveled. We kept on trying again and again and again and failing again and again and again.

Our henchmen kept on dying no matter how fast we tried healing them, they’d just get wiped out too quickly because the enemy had some powerful melee attacks that surrounded it (I think said skill is called Double Dragon, it’s an elementalist elite). We decided to throw out the melee henchmen and replace them all with ranged, EVERYONE in the party was ranged… the very first time we tried doing that mission with only ranged, BOOM done, we won – first try.

Now in Guild Wars I found it to be a LOT more rare finding encounters where melee had a horrible disadvantage than I find in Guild Wars 2 – SO many places in GW2 are so unfriendly to melee – and this is clearly obvious and shown by the simple fact ALL melee classes have ranged weapons… because you’re not meant to be a 100% pure natural melee for all the content, yet being 100% pure natural ranged for all content is completely acceptable.

THAT I think is wrong.

melee toons have ranged weapon for that 20% (i think its less but anyway).

and running dungeons without melees, is hard.

I beg to differ, I’ve run many MANY a dungeon without melee and it was fine and dandy.

Now see it doesn’t MATTER if I’ve had an easy time or not running dungeons without melee because that’s not the point, the point is that you’re not entirely wrong, having a melee or two in the group will make things easier for everyone – doesn’t matter my personal experiences when it comes to fact.

And as you said, melee classes have ranged for when melee classes can’t melee, and I think that’s wrong – I think EVERY area should be possible to melee. Go fight claw of Jormag as melee and let me know what happens. However tell me of a fight where it is literally IMPOSSIBLE to fight as ranged.

I wouldn’t mind having some fights where melee would be at a horrible disadvantage IF there were some fights where ranged would be at a horrible disadvantage, however that doesn’t exist – thus unbalanced.

well, i fell 200% more comfortable with my guardian with only melee weapons for 95% of the content. and that means; i die less.

dunno what else to tell you.

Well, I feel 200% more comfortable with my necro with only ranged weapons for 100% of the content, and that means; I die less.

Even you who are clearly a godly player admit that even for the best of the best of the best, there is still that 5% that just kicks melee’s kitten while doesn’t really bother ranged.

As I said it’s not about one’s personal experiences, it’s not about one’s own skills – it’s about the game, the balance, and the difficulty in general. Get two players of equal skill, both of them above average players, give one ONLY melee weapons, give the other ONLY ranged weapons – the ranged will undoubtedly have a much easier time – THAT is what is wrong, THAT is what is unbalanced.

You answered yourself in a sense. Someone has to have the boss’s attention. Often it will be the melee. Dying and reviving is part of the game. Ever factored range would usually be in a good state to revive others?

I play a tank necro, I make sure to pull as much aggro as I can, I’m able to dish out a steady strem of damage, take hits, kite, move around, dodge, evade, get close to the enemy and move away all while being ranged. I’m easily able to deal damage close and far while being able to kite, and tank.

A pure melee character will not be able to keep on attacking no matter what, and if he never moves away he will die, simple as that.

I have a tank guardian that I play melee with 80% of the time, however there are some places and some bosses where I’m just gonna have to keep my scepter and focus up for the majority of the battle – I have to sacrifice what I do best because the game didn’t take melee into consideration as much as it did ranged. While with my ranged necro tank I’m able to do whatever, be fine, no matter where I am.

In PvP I think melee outshines ranged easily (EASILY) given the right player. In WvW melee is as rubbish as it could ever get, throwing yourself in the middle of a zerg trying to hit someone with your sword will get you killed so fast. In PvE ranged is better than melee.

There’s many reasons but a big deal is that there are so many bosses that can kill you in some 3 hits, and being melee will make you vulnerable to these so much more. A glass cannon ranged and a glass cannon melee can do virtually the same damage, but put a glass cannon melee in the feet of a boss and he won’t last a second.

It is not IMPOSSIBLE to melee, however melee is at a clear disadvantage and that’s always bugged me. My main character is a ranged necro however I’ve always been baffled and frustrated at how obvious and big the difficulty difference is for ranged and melee.

There are many enemies that will only be able to use half of their available skills against you if you’re ranged, while if you’re melee you’re vulnerable to everything they have to throw at you. I always thought “well these guys will give a hard time to melee players but I’m sure I’ll find something that will just be horrible for ranged players” yet that never happened.

At most there is I think two enemies out there who deal more damage the further you are from it, but that doesn’t actually hinder a ranged player at all. There is no boss that will be easier if you’re a melee player and harder if you’re a ranged, that simple doesn’t exist. And to top it all off, the sheer vast number of areas in the game while penalize you for being melee is ridiculous.

It bugs me reading all these people saying “well vet players don’t have those issues, well I’m a vet player, well people that actually know how to play are fine” when that doesn’t do any good to the argument other than licking your own kitty hole and trying to boast your own ego.

You may be able to play melee (though I doubt you’d be able to run a party of ONLY strictly melee players with no ranged attacks through Arah or TA) and may be good at it, but that doesn’t change the fact melee is at a huge disadvantage.

I’m able to fight Lupicus easily without dying once in the entire battle, that fight is a ridiculous breeze for me yet I don’t go to people who find it hard and say “well YOU’RE wrong because I can beat him easily! So clearly I’m better than you, learn to play!”.

I think it’s a simple and quite frankly obvious fact that playing melee is both much harder and also riskier than playing ranged.

I’ve been playing since launch and I have multiple level 80s, various ranged, various melee, and here are some points I have to say;

When going in most dungeons (Arah comes to mind since it’s the one I do the most, also TA), it is alright if the player has both melee weapons and ranged, it is alright if the player has only ranged, but it is NOT alright if the player has only melee.

You simply cannot realistically do Lupicus in melee, he’ll summon grubs and insta eat them, he’ll kill you in the fraction of a second. In TA you are simply not able to actually move around without having some sort of ranged attack to kill off the blossoms; I once had a melee guy run up to the blossoms and smack them with his sword, activating ALL of them and killing us all.

By this simple fact alone it should be clear that melee is at a huge disadvantage to ranged.

You could say “well maybe some places it’s just best to be ranged and others it’s best to be melee”, which isn’t the case however. There are many places where it’s virtually IMPOSSIBLE to progress with melee, while you are able to do anything, go anywhere and kill everything while ranged.

To a lot of people, to my guild, to my friends and so on, a player that walks into a dungeon without a ranged weapon doesn’t know what he’s doing and we’re gonna have to rez him in almost every hard fight.

I myself love playing melee, however there is no way I would EVER make a pure melee character because that is nothing short of stupid.

So you may say this or that about this subject but when it comes right down to it, (in PVE) melee will simply always get the shorter end of the stick, melee will always have to suffer while ranged gets almost a free ride.

We might be missing something, it would make no sense for it to just randomly miss, but I experience the same thing you do. I thought maybe I was crazy or maybe they just blocked in a way I didn’t realize, well MAYBE they did! But either way it rarely ever works for me even if I’m smacking them before to make sure they don’t have aegis.

Because more is not always better.

Delryn.7235: Mimic is good when fighting alone. And once charged it’s a 4sec invulnerability with a 25sec cooldown. There are worse utilities.

Well it only absorbs projectiles, so a non projectile attack still hits you, thus not at all invulnerable. If you want invulnerable Warriors for example have abilities that compared to the Mesmer’s Mimic is much better.

To top it all off the skill is currently bugged cause when I get hit with a projectile I still take damage even though I absorbed the projectile to be resent, but ignoring that since it’s not intended (hopefully).

Also even 1vs1 Feedback bubble is still better since it gives you a combo field for your finishers to add confusion, reflects projectiles for longer AND you can attack while it’s up. I honestly haven’t faced a one single mesmer that’s used mimic against me.

Sorry to dissent, but I must disagree. One of the things I hate about most MMOs is the annoying number of skills they throw at you. GW2 strikes a very good balance of keeping a narrow skill band without sacrificing much in the way of depth.

That being said, given the number of weapons each class can use, there’s really not a lack of skill sets to try.

I don’t mind the NUMBER of skills, but lots of skills just do very underwhelming things. Like I think that if some abilities just did one or two more or different things, they’d be much better.

Like with the Mesmer; Feedback and Mimic. Why would you ever pick Mimic over the Feedback bubble?

Feed back bubble is insta cast, creates a combo field, makes an area that reflects projectiles for 6 seconds. Mimic makes you stop attacking, makes you block for 4 seconds, absorbs one projectile, after the 4 seconds you can use the ability to send the one absorbed projectile back at a foe, with a 3/4 second cast time.

To top it all off there’s a bunch of traints that buff glamour skils (Feedback) to confuse when cast, blind when cast, add confusion when blinding, shorter cooldowns and longer durations. While Manipulation (Mimic) only has shorter cooldown and increased range. I mean one compared to the other, Mimic is a pretty useless ability.

Now if Mimic did a couple extra things here and there, it could be a nice skill.
There’s a LOT of underwhelming skills in the game which just make you think “now WHY would I pick this over that?”

Vary pale human w/ wraith mask. The mask makes for a good soulless eyes effect. I’ve kept it through 80 since I rolled the toon…transmuting as I go.

Also the masks, I am sad. My necro was the first character I made when the game first came out, making the character I didn’t know if it would be permanent or not – so I picked something discrete. Later found out I could just remove it, however I picked something lame, didn’t like it and threw away.

Now I wish I KNEW before doing all that, so not only would I pick the one I actually wanted, but would also KEEP it, not knowing I’d never get it again :c

This is also true for joining the orders (vigil, priory, whispers), when picking a side I didn’t know they had specific armors you could buy, even less did I know you could only buy the ones you joined, even less did I know you’d NEVER be able to buy any other… I mean we should have gotten told these things, somehow, somewhere in game when first starting the game.

I’m just sad I’m doomed to never have the necro mask I want, and be stuck with the choice of a HIDEOUS priory light armor.

You can create a new necro with that mask in another character slot. The mask will be soulbound, but if you transmute it to a basic white headpiece from a vendor it is no longer bound. Then, put it in your bank, and have your 80 character pick it up. AFAIK, that ability hasn’t changed with the last patch.

As for the Order armor, I agree that the player really gets duped by the insufficiency of advice/warning of the consequences when choosing an order.

But when you transmute something doesn’t it become soulbound? So if I made a new necro and made it transmute its mask, it’d just get soulbound to him again, right?

Edit: Oh! I just used a friend’s account to test this out and yeah it becomes account bound instead of soulbound for WHATEVER reason! Sadly though I have no character slots left in my account, and I’m not willing to delete any of my characters, AND I already bought a character slot, so buying another one just for the mask… I dunno :c

Extra Event Rewards

in Suggestions

Posted by: Delryn.7235

Delryn.7235

Imagine if events gave extra rewards, but only once a day. For example, doing an event for the first time in the day would get you extra rewards based on what the event is, but only once a day – so if you did that event again in the same day, you wouldn’t get those “extra rewards”.

For example in Malchor’s Leap there’s an event where you’re supposed to gather Bittersweet Omnomberries, let’s say you do this event for the first time in the day, once complete you’d get a reward (based on your contribution, bronze, silver, gold). The reward for this event would be a bag of omnomberries, if you got bronze it’d contain from 2-4 berries, silver would contain from 3-6 berries, and gold would contain from 5-10 berries. However if you did this event once more in the same day, you wouldn’t receive this bag of omnomberries again, not until the next day.

This would not only give more depth and meaning to events, providing more diversity but would also motivate players to explore the world doing new events and going new places, instead of sticking in one spot doing the same event multiple times in a row.

I wasn’t dead when any of the bosses were killed, tanky build thus I rarely die. Also I can imagine it was never a 100% guaranteed drop but I promise you, to me it was pretty close to 100%.

A couple days ago I did 9 AC runs, whenever I went to check my inventory after the dungeon there were ALWAYS (and I honestly mean always) 3 of those bags, always 3.

Since they added those bags, I’ve never ran a dungeon in which I didn’t get them. Today I ran two paths of AC without getting ONE single bag, so naturally I assumed something was up.

I think charr cultural armor in general looks like the most perfect thing ever for necros, tier 3 is just orgasmic for a necro look (sad there’s no tail hole though…). The head pieces are just fantastic if nothing else.

My main is a male human necro (very basic, very obvious) and I use Arah armor just due to the lack of necro-like light armor in this game…

Also out of all cultural light armors I was most disappointed with human. Sure every race’s cultural armor might be SLIGHTLY better suited for one or another class (honestly just barely) but human light armor was obviously made for specific classes.

Tier 1 is garbage, what were they thinking when they made something that looks so plain, boring and generally bad. Tier 2 is clearly meant for a mesmer, and honestly though if the top piece didn’t have that mesmer-like mask stuck on the arm, I would even get it. Tier 3 is obviously meant for an elementalist and looks like rubbish on a necro.

In generel I think if you don’t care about your race other than something that goes well with necro, charr is the way to go (norn’s pretty good too).

So is it just me or did they remove those amazing boss dropped dungeon loot bags containing karma, bags of coin and 3 dungeon tokens? I mean I thought it was a BRILLIANT idea adding those in, they helped me a lot, thanks to them as I ran dungeons I didn’t have to run an extra time to get a piece of armor I needed when completing a set.

When running dungeons I would always get one from boss drops, this time I ran a dungeon and not a single bag was dropped, not one.

So… did they remove it? I can’t fathom why they would do that. I know they changed that before with bosses dropping I think it was 4 tokens and that’s it, so they removed the tokens and made tokens be awarded at a dungeon’s end which was a GREAT improvement to both obtaining tokens and to stop cheating…

However, why remove them again now? When we have the insane amount of tokens awarded to us at a dungeon’s end why would anyone rerun a boss to get 3 repetitively? Why would they remove those amazing glorious bags?! :C

When I used to find players AFK in the woods, I’d rez them over and over just so their armor would break. Something I thought couldn’t get any better, just did!

I also dislike those events where you have to defend NPCs, now I can just wait for them to get wiped out and complete the whole thing.

I bought the guardian gear box just a little bit ago. Wish I had written down what the stats were on each item, but they were both level 80 rares. One was a hammer the other a sword. Got annoyed and salvaged them before I even wrote down the stats though…

So far the two people in this thread got only weapons, I wonder if it’s a weapon only box. Either way seems like a complete waste of laurels.
