Unless everyone is running zerker… See the thing is, usually you have someone in tankier gear…which is not zerker…pulling aggro. Kinda negates the whole argument, right?
Aggro is determined by range and damage.
No, it’s not.
Edit: Here’s the Wiki page: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Aggro
Obviously damage/range is a factor. So is “tankiness.” (Armor/Toughness)
I run a knights/celestial guardian and I have aggro 95% of the time while I KNOW I’m dealing less damage than most people in any particular encounter. I scepter-range regularly (which has middling damage), and the scenario is the same.
Some bosses have different scripts. Lupi and the Grawl Shaman in fractals target lowest health almost to the exclusion of all other factors. Only way I don’t have aggro as an ele on Lupi is if the guardian I’m running with is full zerk and I wear 1 piece of PVT that gives me enough health over him to not get targetted, or there’s a second ele. Even a zerker mesmer has more health than anything but a full PVT useless ele.
I’m excited that they finally added a rapier, but I’m also a bit disappointed that it’s so long! But it feels like I’m nitpicking at this point.
Now, add a rose focus. Or a focus that actually doesn’t look like some overblown piece of metal you carry around.
I’m just glad to have a sword that isn’t wider than my character’s waist, I’m kind of sick of oversized cloud buster swords.
Also speaking of rose focus.. know what was a good sword skin, despite being a bit too long? Pic related, ignore the cat ears, they were in season.

I really don’t need to have my wallet pop open every time I load into an overflow. Heck, I would like there not to be that intrusive box popping up every time I’m put into an overflow. It’s obnoxious and not at all helpful (and in fact has gotten me killed if I loaded into an overflow and suddenly there were mobs on me and I was trying to fight instead of clicking the stupid box).
We can see we’re in an overflow just fine on the minimap.
so that means pirates, bandits, aetherblades, separatists, etc right?
what’s killing me over and over is the red rings are really hard to see on the wire floor texture. They’re REALLY hard to see at a distance. I’ll blink to where I think is a safe spot only to get instantly killed because you couldn’t see the edge of the ring on the gaps of the floor.
Combine this with the always classic HORRIBLE camera of the game in closed spaces for that “I can’t see anything but my back” FOV, and you get a charlie foxtrot of a fight.
There is no reason both can’t be made.
Storyline-wise, the winning candidate was going to ‘sponser’ or ‘fund research’ into a particular fractal. This fractal would then have it’s release date pushed up.
This does not preclude that research can still be happening on the second fractal. It is just not being sponsored/funded like the first one and thus would take significantly longer to finish.
This fits in with their election story line with the winner getting their fractal a lot sooner. No reason the other can not be made at a later date.
Anthony Ordon (a GW2 developer) said they will not make the other fractal. it’s round filed, scrapped, the story of Abaddon’s first fall will remain on a wiki page and that’s it.
While we’re at it, the spectre finisher should show the defeated player YOU DIED, cause it’s pretty obvious what the inspiration for that finisher is.
So the permanent Super Explosive Finisher hasn’t been added to the store yet, but before it does, consider adding a pixelated GAME OVER message included with the pixelated Mushroom Cloud.
I loved the Arcade Sona skin in League of Legends and one of the most amusing aspects of the skin is when you die it says “GAME OVER”
I want to buy this permanent finisher as it is but GAME OVER would just take it over the top.
I placed hundreds of votes for Kiel as a very deliberate way of saying TO ARENANET that their gambling boxes are not welcome in this game. They are not welcome in any game.
I wasn’t sticking it to any fictional character. I was responding to a survey that the developers put in front of me.
and you’re the other kind of player who I absolutely despise. This competition wasn’t about RNG or not RNG, realistically the only real consequence of the vote was which fractal got made and which one got round filed.
Rubbish.
The competition – just like a real election – was about several different things, all of which have different degrees of importance to different people.
I could easily say that I despise you, because this competition wasn’t about one fractal which might be cool or might suck over another fractal which might be cool or might suck; that realistically the only consequence was whether the playerbase endorsed the practice of marketing real-money gambling to children.
I won’t, though. Although I will add that if the only real consequence of the vote was which fractal got made and which one got round filed, I’m not sure you have any grounds to complain – the fractal which is going to get made is the one that the majority of the public votes were cast for. It’s a shame that the minority that wanted to see the Fall of Abaddon will miss out, but it would be a bigger shame if the majority that wanted the Reactor fractal missed out.
The majority of people who voted for Kiel weren’t voting on her based on the fractal, the sentiment I get from Kiel supporters is “I dont care about fractals” “I don’t even run fractals” “I voted for her because I like HER better” (note voting on the candidate rather than the content) “Cheap waypoints > RNG keys!” “I voted for her because I don’t like RNG!” and worst of the worst “I voted for her because she has bewbz!”
Connecting a fractal or dungeon choice to this vote was an incomprehensibly stupid idea. Had there NOT been fractals connected to this, people would have voted mainly based on the characters (Kiel would have won by a landslide then, the ONLY reason people voted for Evon was largely because of the fractal), and there wouldn’t be so much venom in the forums over the outcome.
It has accomplished nothing but ticked off hundreds of thousands of people by teasing them with content that they will NEVER get now.
I play Asura, the Reactor was something i always wondered about, Abaddon not so much, i’ll leave that to the Bookahs
Maybe you should have talked to the NPC’s around the reactor. They tell you it was Inquest
Okay, ArenaNet. . . I voted for this fractal only because of the opportunity for something fresh in fantasy lore. Gods are redundant in our history of myths and legends. It’s time to move on and explore the unknown!
Isn’t your whole motivation to “innovate” the way MMO’s work? Well, you’ve got a chance to innovate the story aspect as well.
So, good luck!
It’s Inquest. It’s always been Inquest.
There’s no mystery to it. Even Collin said that Thaumanova was the predecessor to the Infinity Coil reactor that the Crucible of Eternity dungeon is located in:
http://www.usgamer.net/articles/colin-johanson-talks-dungeons-dragons-and-chairs
Colin JohansonWell, I can say that the reactor was the first prototype of the Inquest attempt to build something. Somewhat similar to what players find in the Crucible of Eternity later in the game. And the location where the Thaumanova Reactor was at one point in time exploded and destroyed what was once a research lab
Speak to NPC’s around the current reactor, they all say this was an Inquest facility.
Mark my words this is not going to break any new ground. All that will be in the Thaumanova reactor fractal is the inquest harnessing Dragon Energy, like they do in crucible of eternity.
LOL. Long live Ellen!
Oh the sweet, succulent tears from the opposition of a successful pirate victory.
Was that necessary?
No it wasn’t, but that’s a sore winner for you. Thankfully not all of Kiel’s supports feel the need to act like children.
Getting back on topic, I will say that I’m going to regret, partially, not being able to see an Abbadon Fractal be made. Hopefully we will get a better chance at seek what happened in the future. Remember, we do have a temple that was once dedicated to him in Straits of Devestation, maybe the Living Story will bring us there some day…
That temple is used for one PS quest.. that’s it.
It’s not quite the same as being able to experience something that for as far as we can tell, remains only on a wiki page and our imaginations for good.
And they can’t reuse the temple in the future? I mean, they’ve made it clear that they’ll be reusing the Queen’s Arena, Labyrinth Cliff’s, and other festival locations for events. Why not reuse areas that were only available in the Personal Story?
Well I for one hope they DON’T reused that location for telling the story of Abaddon in GW2, because underwater combat is miserable. Every class does like 2/3 of its normal damage there (at least the ones I’ve played)
Only reason to vote for either character legitimately WAS the fractal. It’s the only consequence with lasting impact.
I think the hardcore in their little echo box of awesome assumed early on it was going to be a landside for Evon.
Who wouldn’t want the Fractal Evon promised? In reality it’s who cares about fractals. Hint, not the majority of players. So that wasn’t a factor.
BLC keys have fallen out of favor, unless the discount was extreme I wouldn’t care. I likely won’t notice the waypoint discount but everyone does use them. So so very slight lean to Ellen.
In the end it was just that Ellen just seemed more trust worthy while Evon came off as Lex Luthor. So Ellen takes the vote.
You, and other players like you, are exactly the reason why people who wanted the Abaddon fractal are so vehemently angry right now. Because people who don’t even run fractals decided which fractal they have to run. Fractals are picked at random, so you will be forced with a choice: Run the fractal you don’t want, or quit the group. You put this on fractal runners when you don’t even care about fractals, when in fact, the fractal is the ONLY bit of permanent content to come from this vote. The consequences of your vote for yourself are transient, they will go away. The consequence for fractal runners are enduring.
That is why we hate you, and every player like you. Would you like us to choose your personal story for you, and have the choice you want be thrown out and force you to run the story you don’t like?
We all paid our money for this game. We vote as we choose, for reasons we choose. If you can say you “hate” someone because of this game……well……maybe you need to take a step back and do some RL reevaluation.
You aren’t participating in the content you voted on. I do, I have to experience the consequences of your vote.
Like I said, would you want me choosing what content you do and don’t get to do, when I have no stake in that content myself?
When a President wins that I didn’t vote for, I have to experience his policies….like them or not. It’s called life, and it’s not always fair. You’ll learn that as you grow up. We all get the same opportunity to vote, and my reason for said vote doesn’t have to coincide with yours. If you’d like to reimburse me my $60 I paid for the game, I’ll be happy to change my vote. If not, please continue to QQ.
This isn’t real world politics, moderators have said not to discuss real world politics here.

That and the people who voted Kiel as a way of ‘saying no to the chests on the store’ in some weird sticking it to the man way like the fictional NPC is the one that puts stuff on the store.

We already know what happened with Abaddon. The reactor is certainly mysterious.
It’s not mysterious for anyone who can read between the lines, has done CoE, and does the Thaumanova event chain and talks to the NPC’s there and the surrounding area.
It was an inquest facility where they were researching using dragon energy from captured dragon minions (remember, inquest experimented on Sylvari). They’re doing the same thing at the Infinity Coil reactor. Infinity Coil (CoE) is Thaumanova’s successor, designed to NOT blow up from the experiments they were doing.
If you think Thaumanova is a mystery, you need to actually play the game.
Yea, I do feel like a refund is in order.
When making my purchasing decision, Champs dropped gold.
Post patch, Champs will NOT drop gold.
That’s huge….and 2 necklaces worth of time for me down the drain.
could be even more, do we know if the +5 agony resistance infusions can be slotted in utility infusion slots or no?
If not not only are the laurel costs for the gilded infusion a waste, but the 30 laurels to buy the neck as well.
Yeah, you can put the +5 agony on any ascended item.
Well, that’s a relief, I still have 3 gilded infusions but… whatever, on the character I actually run fractals on I can do AR, the others I can do wvw infusions for stats.
like that’s gonna do anything ever
If enough people do it and people start complaining about people dropping group because they get this fractal on a run, it will.
Don’t run it, if you roll it, reroll, if your group gets it as a subsequent fractal in a run, drop group.
Protest non fractal runners getting to decide what content you get to run!
The fall of Abaddon from Godhood is not in Guild Wars 1. It predates GW1 prophecies by 1000 years, in fact 1079 years.
Then petition for a full-fledged dungeon about it, instead of a 10-minute Fractal that you MIGHT get on a run.
GnashbladeAbaddon supporters seem to be hardcore GW1 fans that are just chomping at the bit for any piece of lore from their “hayday.”
How are you going to do a full fledged dungeon that took place 1300 years ago? The fractals makes sense because fractals ARE time travel, you’re reexperiencing events in history, such as the Searing.
I voted for Ellen Kiel because:
- I like the character.
- I like her story so far.
- I want to see more of her story.I did not vote for Ellen Kiel because:
- Cheaper waypoints.
- I hate Guild Wars 1 lore.
- Because she has breasts.I did not vote for Evon Gnashblade because:
- If I wanted to see a brief glimpse of Guild Wars 1 content, I would play Guild Wars 1.
- I rarely buy Black Lion Keys.
- I do not like his story.Gnash lost; now I drink your tears.

The fall of Abaddon from Godhood is not in Guild Wars 1. It predates GW1 prophecies by 1000 years, in fact 1079 years.
So you’re saying it is not all that relevant for GW2?
It’s one of the most relevant events in all Tyrian history. the chain of events that followed led to the Dragons awakening.
There’s nothing to congratulate.
They put a human vs a charr. An RNG-promoting Charr. With no back story except one cutscene while the human had been with us for 2 chapters of living story. There was no contest. What I hope you notice out of all this voting Isaiah is that the 48% that voted Evon did so because they love GW1 lore, they’d love to see the Fall of Abbadon fractal and I think they deserve that shot.
The 52% that voted Kiel didn’t vote for her fractal, they voted for her. The majority of Evon voters just wanted that fractal ( myself included). I still don’t know how I feel about supporting a charr.I’m hoping you guys at A-net will be able to understand and try to give the players a chance to see that not all their efforts were in vain. Even if we didn’t win, I’d like to think our message got through.
True story, I was going to vote Kiel until I learned the fractals we were choosing between and learned it wasn’t the Nightfall fight but the original fall, I then got very excited to vote for Evon as much as possible.
This isn’t really about which fractal, this is about the really dumb idea of a bunch of people who don’t even run fractals deciding which fractal we get to run. If you vote for Ellen because you want Thaumanova, I disagree with you, but fine, you’re voting on what fractal you want to run.
if you dont’ run fractals and are voting Kiel because you want cheaper waypoints (often not reading the part where it’s only 4 weeks) then no, not cool, I hope you end up spending triple the amount of “savings” on waypoints in repair bills.
This is ridiculous. Voting for waypoint discounts is perfectly valid. However, that promise couldn’t be separated from the fractal. Given you don’t care about anything else, each benefit is an equally valid reason to vote on a particular candidate.
“Valid” for people who don’t even run fractals to decide which fractal gets made? For content they will never do? Screw that.
Are you saying that the only legitimate reason for which to vote is based on fractal choice? That doesn’t make sense.
By your logic, if you never buy Black Lion Keys or use waypoints, voting for Ellen Kiel isn’t “valid” because you’re deciding which temporary benefit gets made while never intending to use it. That’s flawed.
That garbage isn’t permanent, the fractal is.
Keys or waypoints are insignificant in the long run, the fractal will be around as long as the game is around. The other fractal idea now gets trash canned. I almost wish that fractal idea wasn’t being voted on but another lame fractal on the same level as Thaumanova, a more recent choice, something like the Consortium discovering Southsun or something. At least then the Abaddon fractal would be a possibility in the future. But because of this vote and Anet wanting our vote to feel like it mattered, they will never make the Abaddon fractal, we will never see it, and our knowledge of it will come entirely from a wiki page and “legends” from thousands of years ago. The fractal idea is as good as trashed now.
This is literally like a choice between getting to see the Chernobyl meltdown, vs the war in heaven between God and Satan and 1/3 of the Angels being cast down from Heaven. Yeah, sure you can read about it in the bible still, but that’s a little different from being able to see it with your own eyes. We’ll always get to see more reactor disasters, Three Mile Island, Fukushima, and who knows what other reactors will have disasters in the future. But I can guarantee you you’ll probably never see fallen angels fighting God with your own eyes. Just like you’ll never see Abaddon vs the 5 Gods in a fractal.
As I’ve said before, content duration is irrelevant. If I only care about one aspect of the vote, I have a right to vote based on that aspect regardless of what it is or what the other aspects are. The pairing of permanent fractal content with temporary content may have been unfortunate, but that’s another issue.
Additionally, you implied that we’ll be able to see events in the future similar to what happened at Thaumanova. How do you know this is true? We don’t even know exactly what that was. I don’t think potentially similar art and enemy types doesn’t explain it enough.
Such an aggressive attitude based completely on conjecture seems like sour grapes.
We’ve already seen something similar to Thaumanova. It’s called Crucible of Eternity.
It catastrophically exploded? Is there a path 4 that I haven’t explored?
The examples you listed (Chernobyl, Three Mile Island, Fukushima) that implied we’ve seen similar events involve reactor failures of some kind. Crucible of Eternity didn’t fail; it was raided.
I can, however, understand why one might want to see an Abbadon fractal over Thaumanova given the thematic connections between Thaumanova and the Crucible of Eternity. That’s fine. It does not, however, mean that an Abbadon fractal is superior.
Thaumanova is Chernobyl, CoE is Three Mile Island (in which an explosion was prevented by shutting the reactor down before it went critical)
Here I’ll make it simple in case next time you want to make the stupid mistake of putting concepts to vote and then trashing the losing concept forever:
1 vote ticket is dropped in the daily chest for each tier of fractals beyond 10. So at level 10 fractals you’d get 1 vote, level 20, 2 votes.
This way people who are at level 48 would get potentially 10 votes a day, where people who barely scratch the surface of fractals would get 1 vote a day, and people who don’t run them at all don’t get to vote.
Well that’s unfair as well as apparently this story is going to affect more than just a fractal.
I’m talking about voting on fractals alone. The fractal choice should NEVER have been linked to this living story.
I voted for Ellen Kiel because:
- I like the character.
- I like her story so far.
- I want to see more of her story.I did not vote for Ellen Kiel because:
- Cheaper waypoints.
- I hate Guild Wars 1 lore.

I know it’s a pipe dream but I definitely want to see this fractal made, or if not a fractal, some other way to see the fall of Abaddon in game that we can interact in (IE not just a cutscene). The idea of a Bonus Mission Pack like solo activity would work as well.
This is just an event in Tyrian history that has DEFINED so much of Tyrian History thakittens a real shame it’ll never be realized.
Literally the most important thing in Tyrian RECORDED history aside from the Gods bringing the Humans to Tyria and Abaddon teaching the Humans magic and the creation of the bloodstones. That sequence of events. Humans coming to Tyria, Abaddon’s gift of Magic, Doric’s plea and the creation of the Bloodstones, and Abaddon’s fall and the Exodus, are the 4 most important events in Tyrian recorded history, followed by the Searing/Cataclysm, and Nightfall, and the Awakening of the Elder Dragons.

The consequences of cheaper waypoints? In comparison to what? Cheaper RNG keys to gamble away?
Explain to me how the consequences of voting for Kiel is bad compared to Gnashblade. Cause as I see it, it is way better. Gnashblade supported RNG gambling in the gem store. Kiel supported cheaper travel.
So yeah. I’ll gladly deal with the consequences.
Cheaper waypoints for 4 weeks ONLY! TOTALLY WORTH IGNORING THE LONG TERM EFFECTS ON THE GAME STORY TO SAVE MAYBE 20s in 4 WEEKS!
l o l
And again. Please explain to me how a discount on Black Lion Keys is better?
And the long term game story? So re-living old lore that has no affect on the current game, is better than investigating current lore that is currently affecting the game now?
Yeah because we really need to dwell in the past instead of taking care of current problems…..
Abaddon’s death was followed very shortly by the dragons awakening. Try to claim that’s just coincidence.
Abaddon’s fall shaped over 1000 years of Tyrian history and continues to do so even after he’s dead.
Without Abaddon’s fall, imprisonment, and ultimate death:
- The Crystal Desert would have been a Sea this entire time
- The Gods would perhaps still live in Orr
- Abaddon wouldn’t have reached out to the Charr
- The Searing wouldn’t have happened as well as the Gates of Komalie being opened.
- Shiro wouldn’t have assassinated an emperor and froze the sea into Jade and petrified a forest
- The plague in Cantha wouldn’t have happened, and the Ministry of Purity wouldn’t have formed, meaning Cantha would have remained open to outside trade until Bubbles blocked the seas.
- The Cataclysm wouldn’t have happened, Orr would never have sank, killing all its people and then rising later giving Zhaitan a plethora of corpses to reanimate
- Palawa Joko never would have been released unto the world again and Elona would not be completely taken over by Zombies right now
- Kormir would not be a goddess.
- The White Mantle would not have risen to power, the current line of royalty in Kryta would not be the same
- The Ebon Vanguard would not have went far to the north of Ascalon
- Gwen wouldn’t have been kidnapped
- That means Jennah wouldn’t be queen, Logan may have never been born
- That means either Destiny’s Edge never would have been formed or whoever replaced Logan would have not fled, Snaff would be alive and Kralkatorrik perhaps dead.Butterfly effects everywhere.
Don’t claim Abaddon has no effects on GW2.
And again. When did all that happen? In the PAST.
The fractal is about the past of what happened to Abaddon. It is not current. It has nothing to do with the current lore of GW2. It is about what happened in the past, even before GW1.
So again, why should we dwell in the past, instead of taking care of current issues that we are having right now? You seriously care about the past that much, that current problems we are facing are meaningless? It’s in the past. It is not a current issue we are facing now. All it would be is a flashback to something that already happened. So why is a simple flashback to the past more important than current issues we are dealing with?
ALL of it leads to the current events. Things would be massively different without Abaddon’s fall, the Dragons may not have awoken.
But it isn’t current. That’s the thing. We are not replaying Abaddons fall to rewrite history. We are just playing out the memory of what already happened. There is nothing current about it.
It would basically be a dream sequence that you get to watch what happened all those centuries ago. You are not changing history to alter the future. You are dwelling in a past memory that will still be the same no matter what you do.
You are not changing the past. You are just witnessing what happened. Thus, dwelling in the past instead of dealing with current issues.
Thaumanova is also in the past. More recent history, but it is still history.
Except Thaumanova is currently affecting the game now. It isn’t something that happened centuries ago.
Abaddon is still affecting the world through the butterfly effect.
Thaumanova spawns a few veteran mobs and a fire elemental once every half an hour. Yip.
While the Citizen of Tyria for a Better Tomorrow Tomorrow fully support Evon we must congratulate Kiel on a well earned victory.
Nope.
Screw the whole voting thing. You guys round filed a good concept of a fractal, gambling it on a vote. Now it’ll never be made.
You tied voting on the fractal to an event where people who DON’T EVEN RUN FRACTALS voted on it and people who chose Ellen for whatever other reason other than the fractal get to decide what content people who do run fractals get to do.
This was a massive screwup.
The consequences of cheaper waypoints? In comparison to what? Cheaper RNG keys to gamble away?

Honestly,
folks upset about Abbadon not becoming a fractal, to be honest, a fractal would not have gave it justice, to me, it required more like a dungeon, they said that content wouldn’t become a fractal, but two things to consider. A Cutthroat Politics means anything can and will happen, also, doesn’t mean it can’t be a dungeon later on, but more of a continuation of the lore.
Anthony Ordon said it won’t be, the content idea is as good as scrapped, and won’t be revisited, because it would invalidate the vote.

ALL of it leads to the current events. Things would be massively different without Abaddon’s fall, the Dragons may not have awoken.
I would venture to say that both fractals are probably already made.
They’ll just take the Abaddon fractal, rename the NPCs, write up some new lore and release it in 6 months.
nope, they’re atm drawing board ideas. Anthony Ordon said the losing candidate’s fractal will not be made.
That means we will NEVER see the 5 Gods fighting Abaddon over the Crystal Sea, EVER. The idea is now scrapped, and won’t ever be seen again.
I think if they do give you a refund on those laurels, they should charge you the extra gold you made while you had it. Fair is fair.
Otherwise you’d have a bunch of free gold that you didn’t pay any laurels for.
As I pointed out earlier in the thread: They already said that they were working on some sort of trade for the MFers. By your standard they should just make all the MFers give back all the better loot they got using it.
The real problem is that MFers will still invest in the new account MF to continue to get bonuses and might get a free boost in the trade off as well as a new stat to replace MF on their gear, where the GFers don’t get anything.
If MFers got the “too bad” treatment as well, I would be okay with losing the infusion and second necklace I invested in.
The difference is that magic find is being removed from the item structure completely, and only available as an account wide bonus. Gold find on the other hand is remaining (infusions and food) and still working on anything that drops coins.
I expect they may phase it out as well, and when that time comes, I am sure you will get compensated. Or they may never phase it out, in which case you get your extra 1 copper for every 5 copper dropped.
Unfortunately coin drops are quite rare.

The nature dragon is named Mordramoth, run Crucible of Eternity, pay attention to the names of Subject Alpha’s attacks in the combat log. He uses attacks named after the dragons. The Chaos energy comes from the Dragons or somewhere else and is the same energy the Dragons use, the Inquest are doing the same experiments at CoE. You also find holes in reality that warp in creatures from around the world by CoE especially to the south where there’s another Inquest area (where the Golem Mark II drops). Everything that happened at Thaumanova, is also happening at CoE, just not the explosion, because the Infinity Coil was a better designed reactor, wasn’t completed yet and so it wasn’t operating at capacity yet, and it was shut down by the pact.
Have you never run CoE?
Aww come one you made it sound like you knew what was going on…
I know the name of the dragon I used it in my post.
“Chaos energy comes from the dragons or somewhere else”
“Everything that happened at Thaumanova, is also happening at CoE, just not the explosion”The cause of the explosion is the whole point right? It’s starting to sound like you are guessing and don’t actually know what happened at Thaumanova at all.
It exploded because the pact didn’t stop it? You are stating a reason but not the cause. We are interested in the cause, and facts not somethings sir! We already know everything that is currently in the game, my questions are not answered there. Would you mind rephrasing your statements to provide us these answers?
The cause of the explosion was the experiments were going on at a facility not specifically designed to handle them.
So all you people who have already played both fractals, tell me what they will both be like?
We know very little about Abaddon’s fractal, we know the 5 Gods went to battle against Abaddon directly and chained him down and sent him to the Realm of Torment, and we know it took place over the Crystal Sea, and the Margonites, a sea faring people, fought on the side of Abaddon and because of this were cast into the Realm of Torment with him and became demons. We don’t know what our role would have been in the battle, whether it would have been on boats since it was in the sea, or in the skies above the sea., and we know that the aftermath has shaped Tyria’s history for thousands of years. The Gods left Tyria, the Crystal Sea became the Crystal Desert, Shiro, the Vizier/Lich, Nightfall, and the waking of the Dragons are all tied to Abaddon.
Thaumanova literally happened within a few days/weeks before the events of the game (there are still Asura bodies lying there from the explosion and fires still burning). It was a city that housed an Inquest facility within it, that Inquest facility was working on experiments to harness the energy of the Elder Dragons. It went into melt down and blew up, causing space-time anomalies. The Inquest then went on to duplicate the experiments at a newly constructed facility, the Infinity Coil reactor.
This isn’t really about which fractal, this is about the really dumb idea of a bunch of people who don’t even run fractals deciding which fractal we get to run. If you vote for Ellen because you want Thaumanova, I disagree with you, but fine, you’re voting on what fractal you want to run.

Oh yeah, it’s absolutely FINE, aside from the fact that we’re getting YET MORE INQUEST THEMED CONTENT rather than something relatively left out of GW2.
Well, we don’t really know if it will be the same thing. If it does though, we’ll just tell Ellen supporters “Told you”. It’s a 50/50 chance. Like I said, Evon will always be #1 for us.
How can you NOT know? Go to Thaumanova, talk to NPC’s, they outright say it was Inquest.
I know so, but… by the “same thing” I meant it might be a change of content? Like, maybe the Inquest are not the only one’s there? I don’t know… But like I said, Evon is always #1 for us.
Unless Anet wants to retcon the current Thaumanova reactor NPC’s and events, it’s going to be inquest.
I think you’ll find that that is not the case… as the election did not show that.
edit:
but i agree with the little girl
most the people voting for Ellen didn’t care about fractals but voted for lower WP costs or because Ellen is the “good guy” and they didn’t want to vote for a Charr.
Oh yeah, it’s absolutely FINE, aside from the fact that we’re getting YET MORE INQUEST THEMED CONTENT rather than something relatively left out of GW2.

-snip-
Awesome! Since you know everything already I have some questions for you.
Can you continue on and explain where the chaos magic came from in the reactor?
I’m also curious about why the space time continuum is completely out of whack in the area, How are people and creatures being teleported across the entire world to land there? And if this could mean a new form of teleportation not using asuran gates? Perhaps some personal transporters?
I’ve also heard that the reactor “explosion” was not a malfunction of machinery but rather the cause of a dragon (Perhaps Mordramoth?) Is it possible that the dragon or dragons attacked the entire society because they were getting too close to the truth of the dragons?
One of the developers also dropped a tidbit about the reactor saying that it has a connection to all 6 of the dragons, will the 5 we haven’t seen make an appearance in this fractal? Does this mean that we will finally see the earth dragon? or get official names for them all? Will we be fighting the dragons in this fractal or their minions?
Also It would seem strange to fight inquest in this since they all die anyways. Does that mean we will be, becoming asurans for this fractal? Perhaps in an effort to save the city? Or will we be the dragons themselves? (or minions) Pillaging and destroying the city underfoot, because that could be pretty fun too.
I’m also curious… If the Elder dragons fed so much on the magical energy of the world over many millenia that they, not the magical energy itself became the magic that the city of the gods was built upon (at least one of the dragons). Then my question is this, we’ve already killed an elder dragon, what would happen to the magic of the world if we killed them all? They seem to be a source of magic more powerful than all the shards of the Bloodstone if that amount were destroyed would it filter back into the world to make all magic users that much more powerful? would it disappear forever? Could we, without regaining the bloodstone even attempt such a feat? Even the Seer’s, Dwarves, Forgotten, and Mursaat combined with the intact bloodstone were not enough to defeat all of the Elder dragons.
The nature dragon is named Mordramoth, run Crucible of Eternity, pay attention to the names of Subject Alpha’s attacks in the combat log. He uses attacks named after the dragons. Have you never run CoE?
Dammit :/ I don’t give a crap about gw1 lore, I want more gw2 lore :/
GW1 lore IS GW2 Lore, it’s all connected.
Also Thaumanova was just going to be more inquest, literally the same thing is happening at CoE. Run CoE and you’ll experience pretty much the same thing aside from an explosion.
It’s a pretty bad idea to have people who don’t even run fractals get to determine which fractal is made on the basis of “we like Ellen better, Evon is evil!” and cheaper waypoint costs, don’t you think?
I’m not looking forward to an inquest reactor fractal when I already run an inquest reactor dungeon nearly every day.
how do you know this?
show me a link
How about you grow a brain and just take a look at what is known from the aftermath of the explosion that we see every single day every half an hour. You can talk to the NPC’s around the current Thaumanova you know. An NPC south of the Reactor says the prime suspect is the Inquest, the Researcher LITERALLY right outside the east exit of the Reactor, you know the one who says “when the reactor blew…” says the inquest did it and that it was a city once but the Inquest had a secret lab underneath. Rooba herself, who leads the cleanup events that happen every half an hour says this was an inquest facility. During her event, inquest try to stop her, as well. Let’s not forget the fact that there’s a “secret” Asura gate that leads to the main Inquest compound in Metrica Province on the other side of the map. The Inquest had a secret backdoor to the reactor in other words. Even the structure of the reactor itself, it has an ice room (Jormag: Zone white), a water room (Bubbles: Zone blue), and a jungle room (Mordramoth: Zone green). It’s missing a Zhaitan room (zone black), Primordus room (zone red), and a Kralkatorrik room (zone purple), which were likely buried by the explosion on the north side. Know what other reactor has zones like that that correspond to Elder Dragons and is an inquest facility? The Infinity Coil Reactor, where CoE takes place.
If you can’t read between the lines, I feel sorry for you. If Thaumanova is a complete and utter mystery to you, you either haven’t played the game and explored, or you are just not reading between the lines or paying attention at all.
I’m curious as well! Is there a possibility that you’re experiencing heavy latency? The skill itself has about a quarter second cast time (and cancels other skills that are already casting).
I’m curious as to why shooting someone in the head does the least amount of damage a thief can possibly do. It is literally their lowest damage weapon skill (tied with black powder)
There’s a skill like that on every class. The one skill that does the least amount of damage when compared to all other skills. The one for the thief is Headshot, and with good reason.
Do you want everything to do equal amounts of damage? That would be senseless…
Just because its called “Headshot” doesn’t mean this is Counter-Strike.
Yeah I understand black powder is low, but head shot is less than body shot, and it just makes extremely little sense. Yes I get it’s an interrupt but pistol whip serves that just as well (in fact the only real use for it)
Maybe it should do more damage on an interrupt, non interrupting headshots are then “grazes” while an interrupt is actually effective.
