There are tons of people who’s sole motivation is server pride and loyalty and the community that’s evolved from it.
I"m hoping Anet comes up with a way to let people keep wearing their server tags, even when combined. It won’t be that confusing. Red = enemy, no matter the tag name.
+1
ANet Developers,
Please reconsider this opportunity to change WvW into a NFL SuperBowl like based franchise eSport.
For this to happen…you really need a good solid Team Identity & Feeling of Ownership by the players/fans.
Create a WvW where there can be 3 – 1,000 Worlds at War.
The potential for you to own this franchise infrastructure is huge.
You’d own ALL training facilities, sports equipment manufacturing, playing fields, concession stands, even all the teams, and everything related to the eSport.
The way current Match-ups are done will limit your company’s ability to create a product that can easily scale beyond a 3 or 8 story building…imho.
Please re-engineer the Base Structure to allow your product to scale properly into becoming a skyscrapper…that allows different sized tenants (player game styles) to occupy the same building.
Yours truly,
Diku
Possible Solution – Short version 3.7
Change Base Map Mechanic
Players choose 1 Globe to represent
Old Servers are Transformed into Globes
Globes are re-named after their Old World Server’s Name
Each Globe can own 1-4 map(s) in WvW
Old & New maps can be swapped in for variety
Players are allowed to enter & visit any Globe from a list of all NA and EU Globes
Players will have a limit on how many globes they can enter & visit per week
ANet can change in a single setting how many Globes that ALL players can enter & visit per week to prevent un-fair matches, and to stop players from trying to game the system
Limit can vary from 0-3 Globes
Globe Limit would be set to Zero during SuperBowl Event
ANet would set SuperBowl Event Globe participants to – Globe Limit = 1
All Other Globes not fighting in the SuperBowl Event are closed
Home team is shown in random order the Top 1-3 Enemies attacking them to help them target who to attack
Normally – Higher Ranked Globes earn less points attacking Lower Ranked Globes
During Gladiator SuperBowl Event – Globes earn equal points
NA Gladiator SuperBowl – NA #1 vs NA #2 vs NA #3 vs NA #4 vs NA #5
EU Gladiator SuperBowl – EU #1 vs EU #2 vs EU #3 vs EU #4 vs EU #5
Time Zone/Language Label
Globes are Labeled after a Time Zone. This Time Zone Mechanic is only a Label
Communities Form around this Label
Also, there is a Language mechanic to help properly Label a Community that forms for each Globe
New Players before choosing a Globe…are shown the Language preference distribution of its population…primary & secondary Languages of players for the Globe
Local & International Communities Form around Globes using these Labels
Time Zone & Label Mechanics Do Not prevent players from doing anything in WvW.
Automatic & Manual Upgrades
Home Globe Maps – Automatic & No Cost
Enemy Globe Maps & EBG – Manual & Cost Based (Gold / Karma / WvW Points)
Allows for a Weak Home Globe to rebuild after repeatedly being wiped with minimum effort.
Manual & Cost based Upgrades provide a natural mechanism that allows territory expansions to slow down or to collapse…if no effort is put into keeping the expansion moving forward.
Highly Organized Globes are kept challenged in their conquest to expand, but Weak Home Globes are offered a sanctuary to recover when overwhelmed.

@DeWolfe
Anet didn’t change anything except pair worlds.
It’s the same system that will pigeon hole us again.
Except we’re paired now. That’s what I meant by the Base Map Mechanic being the same.
3 Worlds fighting each other in an automated weekly matchup. Just less Tiers now.
I’ll say it again…Pigeon Hole. Map & Match Mechanics are closely tied to each other…that’s why I’m broadly saying Base.
ANet need to change both to make WvW successful imho…
(edited by Diku.2546)
The Base Map Mechanic still remains un-changed.
I agree with Jayne…after a period…the same stale server stacking & match-ups.
After having a place to call Home in WvW for over 3 years…basically since GW2 launched…I’m now a refugee.
Anybody else feel the same?
I can’t bring myself to fight in another Home BL not my own, but I can at least joy ride in EBG.
EBG will probably turn into the next EoTM in my opinion.
RIP my Old Home World.
To my old brothers & sisters in arms…we now must bear being a refugee in somebody else’s Home BL until we’re decide to make it our new Home.
Oh wait…we’ll always be a refugee with the weekly reset and new pairings…unless our world becomes a Top Tier World.
Much Sadness,
Diku

@Aezyr
So what would you offer to provide a soft target bigger than a sentry, but not as important as a camp?
Shrines fit this role perfectly.
It provided a soft target that was un-contested when attacked.
In boxing…fighters jab at each other…
More jabs…then eventually leading up to hard punches.
Shrines perfectly fit this jab role that encourages the WvW fight progression.
Without jabs…we’re going to be stuck with camping behavior that basically kills the fight progression when you’re outnumbered.
p.s.
Clarifying…Only want the shrine itself…not the other mechanics around it.
Aezyr…Really good point you made earlier. Don’t want the surrounding shrine mechanics in Alpine.
Dawdler…maybe this is what you were trying to say…if so…my bad.
(edited by Diku.2546)
@Dawdler
You can disagree with this idea & I can respect why you feel that way. We’ve been burned many…many…many…many…many…many…many…many…many…many…times.
Let’s agree to disagree then…Peace.
@Loosmaster
ANet’s decision to bring back Alpine was excellent, but there are some aspects of the Desert BL that I believe can be re-used.
Some things like the Laser event…shudders…let’s not bring that horror show back.
It’s frustrating, but ANet does read our posts & takes suggestions to heart.
We need to be careful with what we ask for as Dawdler is saying.
Anyway…thanks for the greeting.
Diku
p.s.
Only asking for shrines.
@Dawdler
Some aspects from the Desert BL do work for WvW. Some do not…Shrines in this case…I believe works better.
I found shrine captures to be better “jabs” at your enemy than bloodlust captures. Just my opinion…
More players in my opinion did shrine captures over bloodlust captures based on my observation.
I’m a havoc pug commander…and I tend to prefer capturing shrines before taking on camps, tower, and eventually keeps.
Capping shrines allows me to test to see if the enemy is active on the map.
Diku
p.s.
I’m only asking for Shrines in this post. So please don’t introduce other aspects that I’d rather not discuss or offer an opinion on atm.
(edited by Diku.2546)
ANet Developers,
Please provide shrines in Alpine Borderland Map.
1) Place them away from supply camps, towers, and keeps.
2) Reduce the number of NPC guards at the shrine.
3) Continue to leave them as un-contested when attacked.
4) Scatter a lot of shrines to provide many opportunities for attack.
Shrines help provide a soft target that allow players to jab at each other before they really start throwing hard punches.
Edit – Only want the shrine itself. Do NOT want the surrounding shrine mechanics.
Diku
p.s.
Please add your support & +1 if you like this idea.
(edited by Diku.2546)
2.What are your thoughts on the rate at which you gain participation?
Following might already be done…if that’s the case…disregard:
Create a “Circle Capture Reward & Participation” trigger.
A Pre-Set Reward & Participation Total gets divided among all players in the circle (or players flagged to have contributed) when it completes.
A Player’s WvW Participation score is then used to adjust the final payout that they are awarded.
A Player’s WvW Participation score is then increased after the Reward is paid out.
Players in a small capture group should have a higher payout of Reward per person than being in a massive zerg.
Players in a small capture group should have a higher gain of Participation per person than being in a massive zerg.
Players running in a massive zerg are already rewarded by the thrill of conquest…
We really need to reward the smaller groups that get the ball rolling, or continue to fight against the odds…
(edited by Diku.2546)
5.Are there any other reward tracks you would really like to see?
Ascended Craft Reward Track based on unlocked Disciplines.
Materials Reward Track based on a player’s Wish List of unlocked Materials.
These are suggestions about how it’s currently implemented.
Allow players to switch their Active Track to any Unlocked Track, but maintain the level earned for the week.
Allow Track Reward Items to stack in inventory.
(edited by Diku.2546)

Nice being rewarded every 15 minutes @tick based on your individual participation.
@Sich
imho…
Servers that constantly get wiped due to being “poorly” organized should be granted sanctuary with Automatic & Free Upgrades.
If you don’t protect the Home World that is constantly wiped…defenders give up hope & stop playing.
This way…the few defenders remaining…at least stand a chance to rebuild in the face of overwhelming odds & a against a constant and never ending onslaught of “highly” organized invaders.
Servers that are successful & can expand to conquer their enemy Home Worlds should be allowed to upgrade, but the Upgrades need to be done Manually & Cost Gold to give meaning behind their efforts…and to provide a mechanism that allows for their expansions to slow down or to collapse…if no effort is put to keep the expansion moving forward.
Player’s Home World ===> Upgrades are Automatic & Free for Home Team
Eternal Battlegrounds ===> Upgrades are Manual & Cost Gold for everyone
Player’s Enemy Home Worlds ===> Upgrades are Manual & Cost Gold as an Invader
Suggestion to developers concerning the return of the Old Alpine Borderland to WvW:
Player’s Home World ===> Upgrades are Automatic & Free for Home Team
Eternal Battlegrounds ===> Upgrades are Manual & Cost Gold for everyone
Player’s Enemy’s Home Worlds ===> Upgrades are Manual & Cost Gold for Invaders
Player’s Home World allowed to rebuild after being wiped with minimum effort, but Enemy forces can still conquer & upgrade with cost.
Reasoning still remains:
1) Encourage Home World Defense.
2) Encourage Eternal Battles World Offense.
3) Discourage Home World Domination by Enemies & Preserve Home World Community.
I never stopped playing WvW…just played it less.

Thank you for bringing back the Old Alpine Map to WvW.
Please…
At minimum…Restore the ability to use +5 Supply to Small Guilds that have already earned it previous to the launch of HoT.
It would be nice if banners and other Guild Upgrades that were unlocked too.
This simple move will Allow Small Guilds to feel they are contributing to the WvW effort of their server…and encourage them to return & help rebuild the WvW Community.

Any love for Golem riders that could use a speed boost with Traveler Runes in a huge Desert BL?
@Serious
Yes…many things have been done wrong imho.
At this point…nothing posted here really matters.
Even before choosing a base map mechanic…ANet should have decided on a core vision for the past, present, and future of WvW.
Without a Core Vision…WvW is like a boat without a rudder…going in circles.
WvW Vision
1) World based War…that’s why it’s called WvW.
There could easily be 3 Worlds to 1,000 Worlds at War.
New Worlds can easily join the War in the future.
Old Worlds can be retired from the War if its population can’t support it.
2) System that allows World Communities to grow or survive.
All Worlds should be able to increase their WvW Home Rank themselves, or through Players Creating Alliances with other Enemy Worlds by teaming up.
Low Ranked Worlds that have a low or declining population level are automatically protected & allowed to survive.
3) War between Worlds should typically have no borders, but should have limitations to reduce or prevent un-fair matches.
All Players/Guilds are given the ability to attack any World.
All Players/Guilds are given the ability to team up & play together with friends that have moved to other Enemy Worlds.
Map Mechanics will be in place that scales and can be adjusted to reduce or prevent un-fair matches.
Yours truly,
Diku

Thought you were making a Matrix statement.
Sorry you’re not getting any Commander Spoons.
Got a whole bunch I was saving, but didn’t know what to do with them.

Hope you get one soon.

I support this and I think It’d be a great Idea in general. I do not like the fact of servers being removed and I want the old boarderlands back myself. If only anet would take the time to cater to the game mode that has half of their playerbase. I only play wvw and its all I do.
It’s a poorly thought out idea.
Devs are not removing servers.
You’ll get the alpine back, probably when they make a snow map so there can be 3 unique BL maps in place.
I’m unhappy about the whole thing too, but at least they have worked on something for the past year. Unfortunately, though, it willbe too late for the current players who care… The new age will come eventually, but by then anyone who truly cared will be rooted somewhere else…
@Swagger
You have a right to your own opinion. It doesn’t really matter what we say, but I respect how you feel. I can only hope the feeling is mutual. I also liked the Old Alpine Map…and hope they bring it back as you stated above that ANet will probably do so.
@WizardBro
Appreciate your support. This proposal isn’t perfect, but seeing your kind words really made me smile.
I really hope that you get your wish of getting our Old Alpine Maps back.
@WvW Community,
There’s many of you that still care…even though you say otherwise.
You check & hope that things will change.
I know because I’ve joined this rank. My in-game time is diminished, and my time spent here is not as frequent…but I still check-in time to time.

Cut everything in half and divide evenly…
Example…
24 NA servers can be made into 12 even alliances
12 alliances then fight each other and be placed in tiers/ranks with closer to equal numbers…
Tier 1- Alliance vs alliance vs alliance
Tier 2- Alliance vs alliance vs alliance
Tier 3- Alliance vs alliance vs alliance
Tier 4- Alliance vs alliance vs alliance
All is same, just everything cut in half and bonded by mega/alliance…
You still have your server side and your server friends and your sever guild, but you fight along with another server to win… Make new friend and competion teams are more equal by the numbers so it’s more fair…
EU can shuffle in the three servers to make it 24 instead of 27…
Simple and effective…
Edit- IF server stacking becomes an issue in the future, devs can switch alliances to keep things equal… Or if they want to mix it up for fun then they can do annual alliance changes… Whatever, but the “maths” are simpler and more effective this way…
Edit 2- all the “cornerstones” for all this are already there…
Edit 3- we can even do some simple math right now for fun…
https://leaderboards.guildwars2.com/en/na/wvw
YB + ET alliance vs JQ + DR alliances vs BG + AR alliances…
Take em and combine by highest and lowest rank…
Put em all together and let me duke it out from tier 1-4 rankings based off of equal numbers now…
Tournaments have equal numbers and all servers have a better chance to fight to be number 1…
See?
@Swagger
So is the above how you envision MegaServer will work in a WvW Context?

How the Megaserver System Works
With the megaserver system, players won’t be separated into different copies of the same map based on the world they selected on character creation. Instead, you will simply arrive in a map and be assigned to the version of that map that makes the most sense for you as selected by the megaserver system we’ve developed. This new system takes your party, guild, language, home world, and other factors into account to match you to a version of the map you’re entering. This will increase the odds that you’ll see the same people more often and play with people of similar interests.
With megaserver technology, there are as many copies of a map as are needed to comfortably hold the population of players in that map at a given time. Rather than having a separate map copy for each home world and artificially limiting the amount of fellow adventurers you see, the megaserver system brings players together and dynamically opens up new map copies as necessary.
The megaserver system means you won’t encounter overflow maps anymore. All maps are now created equal, and the system tries very hard to always make a meaningful choice for you by keeping an appropriate number of maps open at all times. In this way, our megaserver technology can accommodate our large population and its fluctuation around world events.
The megaserver system is a weighted load balancer for players. It aggregates data about you, like your party, guild, language, home world, and the map copy where people you like to play with can be found. Using this data, it ranks all possible versions of a given map by attributing a score to each. You’re placed in the map with the highest score, which is the one with which you have the most affinity.

Colin…
“WvW overhaul has been in development for over a year now. There are lots of core things we still need to do including population balance etc.”
Very curious and excited about the “population balance” statement…
Your thoughts?
Do you know what this topic is about?
Umm you do realize that soon Colin will talk about how they are going to resolve “population balance” with regard to wvw?
You’re getting either eotm or alliances… Using Megaserver tech that pools players and that "helps servers with low WvW population and you don’t have to worry about server imbalances.”.
It was explained to you and the alliance thing was mentioned as well, you just don’t pay very much attention…
Please do not speak for the majority of the WvW Community.
Please do not speak as a topic expert. Your comments mislead & confused people imho.
The current EotM being so successful is not due to Megaserver technology imho.
If this thread is read by ANet, I’d hope they get the impression that the WvW Community is asking for answers & details…which is what you’re also asking for too right?
For players that are confused:

What about World Bosses, Guilds, and WvW?
Later this week, we’ll be discussing how our transition to the megaserver system will affect the timing of world bosses and some changes we’re making to support this. We’ll also be discussing the long-term plan for guilds and WvW in relation to our megaserver system, so check back each day this week for more information!
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/continued-improvements-to-the-megaserver-system/
Follow-Up Post only explains the Global Guild, but doesn’t say anything how the Megaserver Base Mechanics will work in WvW.
Great we can access a shared Global Guild Bank from all Worlds now.
Smoke & Mirrors again btw…nothing concrete as it relates to WvW
Crystal clear on How Megaserver works in PvE & PvP.
Totally Confused on How Megaserver works in WvW.
Megaserver mechanics might provide an alternative as far as it relates to a “WvW Population Balance”, but I have yet to find a decent ANet or Player created article that can explain How Megaserver works in the WvW context.
People matter of factly…keep explaining it to me like how the advanced technologies in Star Trek works. Yeah…I totally believe that Dilithium crystals can be used in this way.
It would be nice if folks would check their understanding on the topic matter.
Instead of offering confusing or obtuse dialogue when they’ve lost their train of thought just to appear to be in control of the discussion.
(edited by Diku.2546)
EotM could be called an extention of the WvW color coded system. Could be called an overflow of stacked servers creating further unbalanced matches. But it does not work like a real WvW alliance based system should.
Why don’t we just call it mega-alliance so people don’t lost in semantics. EotM does not do alliances. All it does is create overflows for servers that are stacked. There is no chance of balance, only last a few hours, nothing like what a WvW mega-alliance-server system would be.
^^This I believe is the correct term that could properly be applied to EotM…imho.
We have too much confusion masquerading as truth…
Thank you for eloquently explaining it to the WvW Community.
Now we just need an educated & detailed explanation how such a WvW mega-alliance-server system would work.
Advocates of this Base Map Mechanic need to get serious & explain it to the WvW Community so we can understand it & at least give it a chance to be embraced.
I’m still skeptical that this Base Map Mechanic will work as I’ve envisioned how WvW should be.
So far it’s all been smoke & mirrors.

Edge of the Mists, that is able to create overflow instances. This means players no longer have to wait to play WvW, regardless of the number of players attempting to play.

Nowhere in that link does it state that EotM uses the Megasever technology. The closest it would be is overflow. You may be randomly tossed in a map but you are locked in as to what color your home world is.

Please check your GuildWars2 Wiki articles. You’re confusing the WvW Community…imho.
Loosmaster is correct…imho.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/April_2014_Feature_Pack#Megaserver_system
Players will no longer be segregated into separate copies of a map based on their home world selection. Instead, all players will be placed into shared copies (instances) of the map, which will be instantiated as necessary to hold the current population of that map.
Overflow shards will no longer exist.
Maps are still region-based, i.e. North American servers are separate from European servers.
Upon entering a map, players will be placed in the copy of the map based on a set of heuristics which includes your party, guild, language, and home world. This will dramatically increase the chance that you will be placed in the same map as your party and guildmates, or other players who speak your language.
The initial roll-out will affect PvP lobbies and low population maps. This will allow the system to be tested on low population densities before being introduced to high population maps such as cities and popular spots for farming or events.
The roll-out of the megaserver system was completed on April 21st, 2014.

@Fazz Um
We can only hope ANet will make the right decisions. This proposal is meaningless, but at least I’ve done my best in trying to provide feedback that I think could help save the WvW game mode that many of us fell in love with.
This proposal is not the perfect solution & there are many others with differing opinions on what should be done. I’d prefer not to argue the merits at this point.
I do believe that 3 major things would help our WvW game mode imho.
It’s advice that comes from the heart, and I’m not going to argue with folks if it’s right or wrong. Your advice is fine, but this is just how I feel…take it or leave it. I’m almost done with playing GW2 since HoT launched & ruined WvW imho.
1) Consolidate Population
2) Fix Broken Base Map Mechanic
3) Return Alpine Map
This proposal answers these 3 questions in the following way for those not inclined to read the 1st post again.
1) All Players emailed 1 Free Pass to change their Chosen Globe. Account Bound with an Expiration Date set by ANet.
Rebooting the Population this way has minimal impact imho. Only the WvW players will really understand the Free Pass & will use it before the Expiration Date.
2) Get rid of the Current Tier Based system & replace it with a Globe based system.
Sure there are flaws to this Globe based system. I’ll not lie.
Here’s the best answer I can give about the flaw to this Globe based system:
How do you propose to stop a single super stacked and strong Globe from buying up guilds & dominating all Globes?
Players can continue to Globe stack if they want. Powerful Guilds can continue to try to dominate the Top 3 Rank WvW positions
ANet would probably adjust the Weekly Globe limit that players can visit to 1 for the week to force the #1 Ranked NA & EU Globes to become the King of the Hill
If Weekly Globe limit is set to 1. Once a player attacks a Globe
That Specific Chosen Globe is the only Globe that the player will be able to attack for the whole week…until the next Weekly Globe Reset occurs
A very large Guild could hold hostage the Top 3 Ranked Globes, but the New Base Mechanic will at least allow all the Lower Ranked Globes to attack them
Current Base Map Mechanic does not even allow the Lowest Ranked World to attack the #1 Ranked WvW World
Lower Ranked Globes earn more points attacking Higher Ranked Globes
Higher Ranked Globes earn less points attacking Lower Ranked Globes
Home Globe Team will be shown the 3 Top Globes attacking in a random order to provide targeting
King of Hill Buff – Bottom 3 WvW Ranked Worlds get an automatic buff when attacking any Top WvW Ranked World’s Home Globes. Cross Global Theaters of War attacks also trigger Buff
If ANet has to enforce a Weekly Globe Limit of 1 Globe
Severely stacked Globes will be exposed to attack from All Globes, but their armies would be forced to divide itself in retaliation attacks along multiple Globe fronts
Bottom 3 Ranked Globes actually always get an Automatic Buff for attacking any Top 3 Globes
Top 3 Ranked Globes really don’t benefit from attacking the Bottom 3 Ranked Globes
Nothing will prevent all Globes from picking 1 Globe to attack, but given the mechanic that encourages players to visit 0-3 Globes…you can be pretty sure…somebody will decide to attack a different Globe to raise their Home Globe’s Rank over the other Globes
Globes Base design is to encourage Local & International Communities to form
Globe identity encourages a Strong Sense of Community & Hard Fought Rivalries imho
This is a long term solution that encourages Local & International WvW Communities to form & become established…then nurtured
Over time…Communities will be born, grow up, age, and die…the cycle of life
Both NA & EU #1 Ranked Globes would earn less for being the King of the Hill…because nobody is above them in Rank
Players from EU Globes can attack NA Globes by visiting them
Players from NA Globes can attack EU Globes by visiting them
The Globe based design allows players from all 24 NA Globes & 27 EU Globes to move fluidly across all Globes
Current Base Map Mechanic Does Not Allow players to fluidly fight across all World Servers
It’s more fun to be able to fight in any Globe of your choice for the week
Current Base Map Mechanic has you typically fighting the same Server in the same Tier for weeks…if not months…over and over again
The only restriction to being the 0-3 Globe Limit for players. This number that can be adjusted to 1 Globe if necessary by ANet to prevent un-fair matches & to keep players from gaming the system
Players can choose to fight in any NA & EU Globe
WvW is open 24/7….and now…players can find a Globe that is active…even if it’s Night Time for their Home Globe…because it’s definitely Day Time on an International Globe to that player
3) The Alpine Map provides the best functionality for WvW imho. This is like Classic Coke vs New Coke. Coca Cola realized their mistake & fixed it by putting Classic Coke back on the shelf. We now have 2 products as a result.
I’ve just about found my inner peace & can give up playing GW2 WvW. This proposal isn’t perfect. Megaserver is an alternative & if it’s chosen…good for the advocates…because I’ll have moved on.
(edited by Diku.2546)
@Jayne
I understand now….it really doesn’t matter what we say here.
ANet doesn’t have to listen to their customer’s feedback. It’s their product.
The only thing we can do as consumers is to vote with our money.
Growing acceptance of the reality…and that post sure helped to put things in perspective.
Yours truly,
Diku
All the people who commented here have gotten tired of the same argument over and over again and have stopped posting. Or given up and gone to find other games.
There was a massive thread referring to the reddit leak, it had the most people being vocal about it. Sadly, it got deleted.
But this one is perhaps worth revisiting to get an idea of how people feel about this. It has some thoughtful posts.

@Jayne
Bless you…this is helping me to find that inner peace & move on.
It’s very depressing to still see the vision & potential of WvW.
The future of WvW is dimm, but that’s how it is.
You don’t need to rub it in.
The vehicle was always fine, but it’s the dead spark plugs that killed WvW.
Unique Team Identities are the vehicle that drives passionate players & fans imho.
The NFL SuperBowl is just one example.
ANet failed to replace the Broken Base Map Mechanic that wasn’t working for 3 years.
Don’t mix up the vehicle with the broken part.
You don’t throw out & replace the Ferrari when the spark plugs are dead. You replace it.
New Globe system would let players Visit & Fight on any Globe & still preserve the Unique Team Pride of Servers.
New Globe based system would allow epic battles to rage across any Globe.
The current Tier Based System locks you into 3 Servers in 8 Tiers into Stale Match-Ups & consistently encourages players to Transfer Server to find decent fights.
This is the part that is seriously broken & needs to be replaced.
LoL in Jan 2014… 67,000,000 concurrent monthly players…
GW2 in October 2015… 3,100,000 concurrent monthly players…
This is why ANet needs to stop trying to play catch-up in sPvP.
ANet has such a good product in the WvW category.
ANet will not catch up LOL & will loose this unique opportunity to use their WvW game mode as another vehicle to compete for the future eSport entertainment industry.
ANet needs to change tactics now & stop following another company in the sPvP genre & focus on the one niche they’re really good at…which imho…is their WvW game mode now.
This does not disrupt anything:
All Players emailed 1 Free Pass to change their Chosen Globe. Account Bound with an Expiration Date set by ANet.
Only WvW Players will really take advantage of this limited time offer.
When MegaServer is launched…ANet will choose the wrong cornerstone to build something that could have scaled to what should have been a skyscraper, but will be only as big as 3 Colored Alliances can inspire folks to be.
No worries…currently in depression…on my way to acceptance.
Yours truly,
Diku

Dilbert moment…finding inner peace.
I at least have a vision & fundamental concept that is detailed enough to guide WvW imho…
Still waiting for that Topic Thread from the other camp.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Championships,_Wimbledon
The inaugural 1877 Wimbledon Championship opened on 9 July 1877.
The Gentlemen’s Singles was the only event held and was won by Spencer Gore, an old Harrovian rackets player, from a field of 22.
About 200 spectators paid one shilling each to watch the final.
Everything has humble beginnings…

Ok reported you for spamming the thread now, you just don’t learn, do you?

- Also these are viewers not hundreds of players you have to technically manage (PCs, Internet connection etc.) or how do you decide who plays live in these tournaments?
“b) Dominik.5162 & Swagger.1459 need to Work on presenting the MegaServer Alternative to the WvW Community in a New Topic Thread devoted & maintained by you 2…imho.”
No, how often do I…? Stop telling us what we need to do, go use your kitten brain and if it works you would come to the same conclusion as we did: Servers are part of the reason why WvW is empty now. On another note: Stop using my AccName in your posts, you’re not allowed to demand anything from me!
We’re discussing things.
Sorry my bad.
I updated the post, but you really should consider posting something…it’s a Topic Thread that is missing imho.
Continuing the discussion…
ANet is missing the boat.
The above League of Legends World Championship 2015 are spectators, but could easily be players in another part of the arena…that have paid for their ability to participate on the field of battle directly.
You neatly trimmed out what I’m suggesting:
WvW SuperBowl Event could be a Hosted Event like a Business Conference where everybody pays their own way to attend.
Anyway it doesn’t matter.
ANet is pursuing the wrong eSport angle imho.
ANet currently is the only decent WvW genre imho.
The sPvP effort of ANet will need to compete against League of Legends that already has a huge leg up. This niche is similar to the UFC or WWF.
ANet should really focus on developing the WvW niche that can cater to a larger player & fan base imho.
The five stages of grief are denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance.
Sorry for beating that dead horse…I’m at bargaining/depression.
Still working on finding that inner peace btw…almost there.

@Osu
Thanks…appreciate your kind words.
Also, admittedly…very true & becoming.

As mentioned before, your proposal get sillier and sillier the more you write…
Snip 8<
Real live arenas or stadiums? Are your trolling, kidding or are you 10 years old? which one is it? i really want to know, I can even resist to call you retarkitten at this point! Do you know how much work it is for the WTS to fly the few teams of 5 people each to the location it is held? That is the exact same reason the GvG community has never asked for a tournament like the WTS because a) Anet would never do it in the first place
b) they would have to fly in 20+ people for each team and c) you don’t have the internet capacity for everyone in one place…and you top that again with being a little child and ask to have that with HUNDREDS of players for each side..Think twice before you post please…do yourself a favor
WvW SuperBowl Event could be a Hosted Event like a Business Conference where everybody pays their own way to attend.
Players meet up & join their own Globe Team at an Arena specially setup for this Annual SuperBowl Event. Players would need to reserve & pay in advance for their play space at the Event.

Here’s a quick run down on what needs to happen to nurture this Potential imho.
1) Consolidate Population
Server Based Solution

MegaServer Based Solution
Unknown mechanism or it’s proposed that All Servers will be merged in some way.

3) Put Old Alpine BL Map back.
This is my personal opinion. The Old Alpine BL was more functional in regards to the needs of the WvW playstyle.
I’m a Classic WvW drinker…and prefer the old taste.
Please join either respective Topic Thread to Help Improve your preferred solution.
Please be respectful of each Topic’s approach, and allow each Topic Thread to develop in a positive discussion.
We need folks discussing & trying to improve the Server Based model, or a MegaServer Based model…not arguing in each respective Topic Thread.
(edited by Diku.2546)
After my prior discussion on the topic with Jayne, I think NA needs an intelligent system built on the megaserver technology that learns player trends to create more dynamic and fair matchups, and I think EU just needs some compression due to the way their communities differ from NA’s and how the state of WvW is different between the two regions.
This is what I’m asking MegaServer Advocates to explain the mechanics to the WvW Community in a Topic Thread for everybody to see.
Exactly how will the magic numbers work? What mechanics & triggers that will make it happen?
I’m a Server Based Advocate & I’ve laid out my Proposal for folks to easily read.
I’m asking the MegaServer Advocates to come up with a nicely written Topic Thread for us to look at & review.
It’s easy to point at somebody else’s work & offer feedback, but we need to have another Topic Thread by MegaServer Advocates that will help guide ANet Developers.
We need folks discussing & trying to improve the Server Based model, or a MegaServer Based model…not arguing in each respective Topic Thread.
Yes, I agree that players trying to play on an International Data Center probably will suck.
I did mention this:
Players Visiting an International Data Center should expect to perform poorly.
The Server Base Map Mechanic that I’m proposing actually wants Communities to form around Local Data Centers using Time Zone & Language Label Mechanics to help better define them.
However, the Server Base Map Mechanic being proposed here also allows the possibility for players to cross over & VISIT International Data Centers.
Current Internet technology & speeds are not up to snuff it seems, but I’m designing & building with the intention that speeds & performance will improve by the time things reach Critical Mass for a SuperBowl Event to be staged.
When the Wright Brothers built the first airplane…it didn’t break the sound barrier.
(edited by Diku.2546)
Great…this is a start.
We both more or less seem to agree on Question A.
Sorry for being slow, but let’s discuss Quest B. I still don’t understand how a MegaServer Based Map Mechanic will work.
You’ll have to explain it to me 1 step at a time so I can offer feedback. Also, you’ll probably need to present it in an easy to read format.
Question B
Would you also agree that the Fix Broken Base Map Mechanic needs to at least address 4 major things:
1) Chronic Server Stacking
2) Stale Match-Ups
3) Ability to Play with All Friends & Family
4) Off-Peak Capping
Ok…certain questions are easy to answer.
You could probably skip the 1st major thing.
1) Chronic Server Stacking
MegaServer will automatically create instances & drop them in. Server Stacking is a non-issue with MegaServer. At least the system should Automatically Balance the populations right? Hmm…how does it do this?
What I’m interested in you explaining is how MegaServer will address Major Issue 2.
2) Stale Match-Ups
I’m primarily interested in how the MegaServer mechanics will work in detail for Match-Ups.
Is it going to be like Splatoons?
Splatoon green vs purple
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q96hXIOk69Y
Also, will MegaServer allow players on different Alliance to still play together?
3) Ability to Play with All Friends & Family
Lots of players could end up on different Alliances, or they could all end up on the same Alliance & game the system.
Finally…the last question.
Does it not exist in your MegaServer Alternative?
4) Off-Peak Capping
If you’ve answered my questions like 3 times so easily…why hasn’t ANet done it already?
Actually…let me bite my tongue…they probably will go with a MegaServer solution.
However, from my viewpoint the WvW Community still doesn’t understand How MegaServer will work.
It seems all we have to do is say MegaServer will fix it, but I’m still not understanding the who, what, when, or how the Base Mechanics of MegaServer will work & be deployed.
So instead of berating me…would you be so kind as to enlighten me.
You have my un-divided attention.
Your truly,
Diku

Question A
Would you agree to fix WvW game mode…2 things need to be done in the near future:
1) Consolidate Population.
2) Fix Broken Base Map Mechanic.
3) Increase WvW Rewards <—- This comes after things stabalize
Question B
Would you also agree that the Fix Broken Base Map Mechanic needs to at least address 4 major things:
1) Chronic Server Stacking
2) Stale Match-Ups
3) Ability to Play with All Friends & Family
4) Off-Peak Capping
Would you answer Question A & B only for the WvW Community first before we expand the discussion? It’s very confusing to jump around.
I’d seriously like to work with you on Expanding the MegaServer Alternative. You provide the solution, and I’ll help to provide feedback.
(edited by Diku.2546)
@Dominik
Bulk of NA Players will typically play on the NA Data Centers.
Bulk of EU Players will typically play on the EU Data Centers.
GW1 allowed players from NA & EU to play together in a similar way.

Never gonna happen, Ping issues will be too heavy. Don’t pretend ANet will move the location of their servers so everybody will approximately have the same ping.
Not to mention the seriously higher average ping for people who happen to be the farthest away of the server location.
As mentioned before, your proposal get sillier and sillier the more you write…
Players from EU Globes can attack NA Globes by visiting them.
Players from NA Globes can attack EU Globes by visiting them.
Data Centers are kept separately based on their real world geography.
Players Visiting an International Data Center should expect to perform poorly.
Players should play in the Local Data Center that is their Home Globe & should be closer to them for best performance.
Annual SuperBowl Event would have ANet lock down All Data Centers for a 2-3 hour match & allow only the Top Ranked Globes to fight. Data Centers that have a geographic balance between the 2 Top Ranked Globes would also be chosen to provide a fair playing field.
This is why the Globe Limit is 0-3 Globes.
Globe Limit = 0 is specifically meant to be used during this Annual SuperBowl Event
Or, they could host the Event by Invitation only.
You need to join your Globe Team at an Arena specially setup for this Annual SuperBowl Event. Players would need to reserve their play space at the Event. Kind of like a Business Conference Event.
Real live arenas or stadiums could be staged to host a party & to receive a special broadcast of play by play action with commentary of the match.
Pre-Game, In-Game, and Post-Game. Very similar to how the NFL SuperBowl does it.
In order for this emotionally charged event to happen…
The core message still goes back to Pride based on a unique identity…it starts out in High School, grows in College, and peaks in Professional Sports…this concept of Team Pride.
Here’s a quick run down on what needs to happen to nurture this Potential imho.
1) Consolidate Population
All Players emailed 1 Free Pass to change their Chosen Globe. Account Bound with an Expiration Date set by ANet.
2) Fix Broken Base Map Mechanic.
a) Get rid of the Current Tier Based system & replace it with a Globe based system.
or
b) You & Swagger need to Work on presenting the MegaServer Alternative to the WvW Community in a New Topic Thread devoted & maintained by you 2…imho.
3) Put Old Alpine BL Map back.
This is my personal opinion. The Old Alpine BL was more functional in regards to the needs of the WvW playstyle.

Imagine All Globes fighting to be crowned the Top Ranked NA & EU Globe for their Theater of War.
Then imagine, these Top Ranked Globes going head to head in an Annual SuperBowl Event.
Both #1 Ranked Globes.
NA vs EU doing battle to be the WvW Champion.
It’s like the AFC vs NFC doing battle in the NFL SuperBowl.
Global Theaters of Wars
NA – North America
EU – Europe
AS – Asia
Could be expanded into a Battle Royale…depending on how many Global Theaters of War get established.
The core message still goes back to Pride based on a unique identity…it starts out in High School, grows in College, and peaks in Professional Sports…this concept of Team Pride.
We need to build WvW around this unique pride…
World Server is a very large slew of people in one sweep…
Guild size can be small or large…
They all share one thing in common…a unique identity & pride.
(edited by Diku.2546)
@Dominik
I think we both agree on two things…just on a quick observation…imho.
1) Consolidate Population
All Players emailed 1 Free Pass to change their Chosen Globe. Account Bound with an Expiration Date set by ANet.
2) Fix Broken Base Map Mechanic.
Get rid of the Current Tier Based system & replace it with a Globe based system.
The Server Based Alternative Topic Thread is fully explained & is in the process of being updated & refined.
I can’t update & improve upon Server Based ideas while discussing MegaServer…it’s a major distraction & emotionally charged.
Would you & perhaps Swagger work on & presenting the WvW Community a MegaServer Based Alternative Topic Thread?
Your MegaServer Based Alternative Topic Thread would in detail explain how it will work.
The MegaServer Topic is all over the place and I can’t understand it.
The WvW Community would benefit if the 2 of you worked on developing & maintaining it…imho…instead of attacking the Server Based folks trying to save our WvW game mode.
Base Map Mechanic & Design can’t be changed on a whim…they are the foundation on how everything else will need to work.
I can only Copy & Paste the information as it is presented & proposed.
You say MegaServer is better…well then get serious…Create & Spearhead a Topic Thread that will guide the developers of ANet on how it will work.
Yours truly,
Diku
