met my gf of 5 years in gw1 that fake world. Got my first taste of leading numerous groups by being a guild leader. Learned quite a bit of Russian in that fake world where no one learns anything. Met some of my best and closest friends who have flown around the world to meet and laugh in person in these games that get me nowhere.

dont even get me started on the people who I have met who use mmo’s to become more social, get over anxiety, learn. bad anxiety and hops on forums and makes a rage post threatening to quit? yea sure. thats real common with bad anxiety.

I dont think they are terrible. Aliens Colonial Marines was terrible. Gone home was terrible. Cave Simulator V 2011 edition was terrible.

That is a commonly requested feature that PHIW want that will stop the berserker’s. They dont really consider the challenges that they will face.

Honestly It got me helping out in wvw. Takes me about10 mins to get. But by then Im following a commander on ts taking orders yelling “jq zerg ne camp!!!!!” or something. not sure im helping but I carry supply and yell retreat like a mothertrucker. Then 2 hours have passed and I really should be doing something else.

For most story modes you only need 1 or 2 people(depending on profession) to carry a whole group of new comers.

Knowing the mechanics makes thing much much easier. Want to know if its truly easy ? Do what I do when I do SE story with newbies on my mesmer. Dont reflect anything for the first try each group.

Watch them get massacred for the first try. Then watch them breeze on by when I assist.

Gotta let em know the pain else they may come on the forums complaining that all they do is press 1,2

What I suggested earlier was NPCs who when you interact with them lay down combo fields that you, on your character, can interact with by shooting through, jumping on, hitting, etc. They can say something like “Smoke field” and put it down. They can even put the skill name in chat (Black Powder) so you can mouse over it and read it.

People can then learn at their leisure and go back for refresher courses when they want to learn even more.

Thats nice but targeted primarily towards combo finishing. Shows nothing about placing your own fields, or the order.
Perhaps that can be Combo Finishing Tutorial then have another one for placement? For the professions/ weapons that place more fields than they finish.

ofcourse ofcourse I dont think anyone is arguing against a tutorial or that different types of teaching should be encouraged. Its what type of tutorial will be enough?

Vindictus had a little video pop up showing the combo’s in action. Then you could go into a menu and see the text and if desired a small video of the combo being executed on a mob.

The fields are great but what if the person doing it has a staff and is a necro. To fully realise combo’s one sorta has to be ele, warrior. I mean there are so many combinations leaping into all fields doesnt do the same thing (aura’s).
Maybe small videos?

It would probably have to be personalized to each profession also.

Personally I mouse over my skills and read them. No need for google. Perhaps for some classes or for those that dont experiment. And no youre not dumb morons. Just different. I agree there should be a tutorial but part of me wants to scream “RTFM”. I find that the people who dont know how to do thing like that are usually the people who made no attempt to learn in the first place.

an example. I cant remember which is unbound by default “walk or holster weapon” Does there need to be a tut telling people press escape and go to options then hit keybinds?

And then ofcourse it goes into the complexity of the tutorial. How much is too much? Is it going to be profession specific? Weapon? Finisher? Can they list the basics and assume that the player will be intrigued enough to experiment with other finishers and fields? I sure dont know and wont profess to know.

maybe a big field with all the different combo fields and npc’s leaping into each one. then another row with them firing, then another blasting. But then they would have to list each skill that is a blast finishercuz reading is ….???.. I dont know I didnt experience that problem and Ive yet to see a person say they actually read the tool tips and didnt get an understanding of the combo’s.

also unlabelled randomly applied fields? I may be mistaken but cant pretty much every profession make their own fields and finishers? I suppose if you are somehow permanently glued to a zerg that may be hard to differentiate.

Actually this makes me really makes me like the NPE.(assuming its making the players more knowledgable) I always thought one of the first things you do is mouse over your skills to see what they do but now I understand why people say things like “gw2 is just a button masher” People randomly press buttons and win with no idea of what they do.

If anything they should add more jumping puzzle-esque challenges into the dungeons as those puzzles are relatively atmospheric.

Has the traps people want- the running across narrow ledges etc. There is another one in a norn area. I happened across it one day running around.

I dislike the use of those words better, surpassed. its different and in a way that one may or may not like. I would love to say arma is better in everyway to cod/bf/cs but its not. Its simply different. In my eyes saying its better means that if they transplant the whole dungeon to gw2 it will become the most popular dungeon and I find that hard to believe.

I have no problems with the suggestions. I just dont think they are… (realistic?) for the gw2 community.

Id also prefer my dungeons a bit more along the lines of Dungeons of Dredmore or gw1 where when all get downed you get kicked out but then I ask myself .. actually meh.

actually isnt there something like that ingame already? its has to do with torches and lighting up the dark and hopping around ledges avoiding mobs.

as for the lever stuff. As a heavy sp-rpg player. Nothing is more tedious than hunting for a bloody lever to open a door.

I would argue if a person is able to only use 1,2 then someone is carrying them. Hard.
When I play my warrior its usually me. I turn into the condi removal guy with my 1 condition removal.

Actually that is a bad arguement. I would argue in a five man group if one person is able to solely do his dps rotation its because his teammates are supporting him in such a way that he doesnt have to worry about non dps related things.

e.g. When I play mesmer. I know Im not Queen of dps. What I am there for is to make sure that the higher dps members of my party doesnt need to slot condi removal. I am there to make sure they dont need to worry about projectiles because I got that covered. So even if they decide to only press 1 and 2 its because I have everything else covered. You know that teamwork kitten.

Like in american football. The guys who pretty much only run as fast as heck with the ball. They get to do that because other people on their team block for them. Thats right. My mesmer is a 250lb black man.

As a pugger it is rare for me to be able to go full on meta. Ele melts because support is for after I get downed. Warrior/everything not mesmer* melts because insta 24 stacks of bleeding to our whole party means wait 15 seconds before using partywide condi clear.

* will melt from the pure damage cuz blind is bad mmmkay.

Also I have seen hammer warriors in my dungeons. All the darn time actually.

Why is that sad? Why is stating ones inexperience a bad thing? Being inexperienced is a great thing! It means you can get better. It means you have more to explore, more to learn.

I am inexperienced and proud! I know next to nothing about most fractals actually most dungeons also. Not a bad thing. It means my 2yr old self isnt sick of running the same dungeons yet. I have yet to truly appreciate the wonders of multiple useless rings from fractals. I am constantly poor trying to get by on the meta with the poor people stuff.

I also buy runs. I sit at the last boss and watch. Like a hawk. I have dreams. One day it will be me.

Let me be a kid(inexperienced) for I grow up(get bored of limited content) all to quickly.

Also I wish more people would feel pressured into saying they are inexperienced. Would save them some embarrassment. Watching you run all over the map trying to figure out how to get to us then rage quit because you couldnt simply refused to say anything doesnt harm us. you know who you are
