What exactly does it “teach”? I dont see this new system teaching much about anything really. If you were to say it slows down information given so as to prevent overwhelming new players, ok then. But teach?

Especially considering everything thats not available to them is clearly marked not only as locked but also when it unlocks.

Yet people seem they want to believe the system is much worst then it really is. Most of the things people report are locked really arnt, its just the system introduces them at a certain level like say vistas. Its clear though people arent complaining because they have no been allowed to do a vista cause they werent a certain level.

So I really wonder what is it…

Hyperbole? maybe people tend to exagerate a bit to try to force anet to revert the game to a state they enjoyed more?

Genuine Miss information? They read in passing that vistas are made visible on the minimap at level 10 so they assumed they couldnt do it before?

Hive Mind? They saw someone state how aweful NPE is because vistas cant be done before level 10 and they took that statement as fact because they shared the same feeling on NPE?

The sheer fact that there is so much uncertainty points to a failure of sorts in my eyes.
Like the removal of the first tp vendor in the starter areas. Technically one can simply run ahead a bit to get to the tp, but to an unknowing newcomer ( and admittedly myself when I rolled another char to test it out) I thought wtf I have no tp?

Now I knew the button to press, I knew to check the forums but for all intensive purposes to a new player, the tp does not exist. just like wvw, and a few other things.

Lol @ the Just go to LA and use the portals there. HAHAHAHA the sheer number of new players that I know that havent even left their own racial area. Is there actually something that shows new players the portals other than in the story missions?( i cant even remember if it was covered in the story missions)

New player experience? Please. It teaches almost nothing, causes some inconveniences , and if anything confuses new players that happen to talk to vets.

Oh wow dodge tutorial. I didnt even see it when I rolled a new char. Infact the only dodge area I even know of is in the Queensdale ( I assume it exists in the others) BUT

For example the Township Of Claypool has 3 great tutorial thingies on timing blocks, timing shots. Does something like that exist in the other areas?

Then again it is new player experience not improving new players knowledge or something like that.

For all the things it was supposed to “fix” players still dont know about combo fields, and they sure dont know what I am talking about when I ask them in dungeons if they have x trait. Then they tell me they dont have access to that yet, then I remember. Then I send them 10g and tell them Im sorry before they are kicked..

Couple of minutes longer? for a wholly new group? I think perhaps you overestimate new players. I just finished a 2 hour long hotw story mode.

It could have been faster but I purposely camped water cuz Im reasonably sure they were trolling me. 4 level 80’s cant do less than 1k dps. Im pretty sure its impossible. And if thats with a party of 3k+ ap on a story mode mission I cant imagine how long a party of new people who dont know what to do would take.

ot: the dps meter is quite possibly the worst thing to happen to me. before I would just rage. Now I know exactly why I rage. I can scream how are you dying and you have 3x my health you arent even in melee range.

Its a shame 99% of my pug runs I do I am the only one stacking might and fury(often times for myself because might is scary and they run away), I am reasonably sure I am the only berserker in the party.

I dont normally look for the perfect party/ build but when I do get a group like that I am happy. Truly happy.

If anything the “meta” is a slight assurance that people have an idea of what to do.

Honestly this meta only nonsense really gets to me. I pug almost daily and have yet to be forced into anything resembling meta (though I am) There have always been ample groups that I could join that didnt have a req or make myself.

Are you saying that running a reflect-less/non projectile destroying builds in pretty much any projectile heavy dungeon is efficient and that the vast majority of pugs would enjoy such ?

Joined a party on my thief asking for help on CE story. Comp as

~ 61ish war sub 500apish
~ 66ish ele sub 600ap
~80 war 1.2kish ap
~80 mesmer 24k+ ap
~ me
I smile thinking kitten time with my thief since mesmer has projectiles covered.

Map finishes loading and the ele and both wars are downed at the starting bridge.

I fly in smoke screen bring up the ele (cuz <3 eles) and begin to kitten the surviving ratpeople. Recognizing the threat they ignore everyone else and start doing their leap bs and quickscop3s.

Thats when I realise Im getting shot and mouse over the mesmer. 24k. Rotate screen. See little purple balls flying around. Realise that I havent seen a chaos storm.

Lvl 80 war rq’s. From what I gather that wasnt the first attempt at the bridge.

I log out and switch to guardian. Things go easier. That is until “someone” decides to grab 3 groups of ratpeople. Rat people notice my threat and literally all of them do that leap bullcrap onto me and insta dead me.

Thats when I realise im the only one in melee range.

I log out as they begin to drop one by one. Switch to mesmer. Time to show that mes how to properly support team.

Get back in and we proceed to attack. again only one in melee but doesnt matter. Im better in melee on my mes than guard. I properly pull with focus, use fb, properly time and chain focus reflects. Melt the enemy with people taking almost no damage.

Get to 1st golem/ other rat people boss.

Other mes runs in with gs and literally pushes 1-9. I notice fb. Odd. it seems mes has it now and is using it “relatively” wisely.

I log out and switch to ele.

Q~ why is it my zerk ele has less health than lvl 60’s?

:D I have joined lfg’s looking for teacher where I was the only experienced one.
Instead of following me they followed the yolo’r and died.
Then kicked me because I had to stop and type and delete it to keep up.

This is not new to GW2. If you played GW1 and went to Domain of Anguish or PvP’d, you would have noticed Guild Wars contains some of the nastiest instanced dungeon communities around.

Also its not that I dont give new players a chance to learn.. Its that I would never get anything done if I had to do that in (pretty much) every single group I make/join.

Ah gw2 community the best of gw1.
I run dungeons for tips occasionally. Thus far out of about 30ish runs I have gotten 2 tips and 3 thank you’s. Chat is usually dead silent during it.

I remember running Droks for tips and dying because of the chat. I remember making more from tips than charging actual prices.

Heck I got more thank you’s and tips running The Great Northern Wall than in all my time of gw2.

Didnt even have to ask for tips majority of the time. People just gave it to you, said “afk” and GG.

I wouldnt mind being paid 1g per newb I carry. Its those 11k ap ones.

As for ffxiv. There is a difference in cutscenes. In gw2 the world stops. “No one” would care if someone watched the cutscene if it were like that here. Though the person might care as prolly can kill quite a few bosses in the time it takes a cutscene to play.

Nope. To properly fix “problem” content needs to

1. Make it guild bound. aka no more pugging possible. thus own fault for joining kittenty guild.

2. Gear bound. Dont have x gear you will pretty much die. Not only things like agony except everywhere and quick killing. but need x hp, atk, prec w.e.

3.Inspect tool.

4. One does not join groups via lfg. They REQUEST to join groups and Group lead can inspect.

5. PROPER punishment for ALL who abuse kick function.
6. PROPER punishment for all those who abuse listed req in lfg.
7. PROPER punishment for all who are abusive in groups.

or just take it all out and make it matchmaking.

I think the op, who was a lot more tactful, and probably respectful than me has a valid point. Something about something brings out more negative dungeon runs for the non proffesional dungeon player in this game than in other games.

Most other games have built in gear/level/role checks. The “casuals” cant play with “pro” Most other games have easily identifiable roles. Youre not going to find a healer who specs into earth damage just because.

The “problem” with gw2 is that everyone can.

And no offence intended but what games are you speaking of? I cant think of one mmo where the dungeon community isnt thought of as kittens by the “casuals” despite pretty much everything the “casuals” do is because of said community.

It is my perhaps flawed opinion that this Phys doesnt think highly of the dungeon community because “we” are not more accepting of basically everything.

I literally just taught a lvl 63 thief how to solo cm p3 and we have a date scheduled for p1.
How? Why? he said " hey how are you doing that?" after I left him behind and solod in a group that said “Lvl 80’s Experienced only”

Excusing the fact that I hated his guts for joining, hated that he didnt respond when I asked if he was switching.

Say all you want about how the dungeon community is absolute kitten. But I know which community answered my questions. I know which community showed me how to do things. I know which community facepalmed at my lack of skill and which said" Great Job" when I FINALLY figured it out. I know which community “taught” me to pass on the knowledge.

Havent played in weeks.
Run 1: “p3 experienced berserkers.” Spent a few minutes considering it but said what the heck.

Switch to my thief because I can solo if need be. Switch to bow and ask “stack might?” Guardian uses staff skill. I begin to worry. I say “I meant the ele” Nothing happens for 30s. Eventually everyone starts putting “r” but no one actually moves.
I pull and wait. Guard doesnt drop reflect, ele doesnt use swirling winds, engi doesnt attempt to get wor with lixer. I use elite. Guard doesnt use stability. They get chain kd’d. I gain aggro and pull away from em and we proceed to kill them.

At this point I hate all of them and stealth myself to turrets. As I run solo the engi types “we have thief”. I type “we also have engi” and start the turrets. I stop and clear half the hallway because that is as far as they make it.

1 rushes in without gun and insta dies. 3 others follow suit with guns firing all at the same time and still die.

I just stand there trying to understand how this could happen.

Also I can say I sometimes list my story mode with skipping cut scene ( no ap/speedrun/level req but skipping cutscene. And I have kicked people out for watching them.

I have reasons for kicking but meh, Im the devil, no real point in saying them.
