Is it true that the damage was due to the bouncing bug that, most notoriously, affected Blade Trail as well?

The insane damage numbers you could get on Bladetrail and sometimes Kill Shot were caused by the Warrior’s trait [Berserker’s Power] which gave its bonus damage to some skills multiple times. I’ve never heard of a Thief trait or skill that had the same flawed behavior as [Berserker’s Power].

Dancing Dagger was nerfed because it was OP in Xv2 fights where it hit both opponents twice, dealing more damage against both foes than Heartseeker or C&D plus Backstab could do against one of them.
However there might have been a more elegant ways to nerf the skill, e.g. by not allowing it to bounce back to a foe it previously hit; then it would deal as much damage against 1 and 4+ foes as it did before but the ridiculous damage against 2 foes would have been halved.

Coming from a moba player, bouncing projectiles that work best against 2 targets are NOT overpowered. They are simply a situational tool that punishes the opposing team for being stupid.

I’d rather find out the various Order mentors managed to survive. I don’t care which or whose orifice the story is pulled from; I want it to happen.

No character can make me genuinely smile and yearn to choke her to death the way Sieran can.

I hear you, bro. I miss Forgal, but it would take one hell of a Deus Ex Machina to bring him back, and it would really cheapen his sacrifice.

The problem isn’t that they killed lovable characters – it’s that they didn’t give us new lovable characters to fill the void. Furthermore, they didn’t even mourn the passing of our mentors significantly enough.

Hello, everyone. As an aspiring young writer, I am interested in seeing the story of my favorite game expand and evolve into something better and more interesting. As such, I would like to bring forth my idea for the future of the Pact.

Trahearne has died

It was a great blow to the Pact when insert next campaign’s dragon here launched an ambush on the Marshall. He was corrupted and inevitably slain by his second in command (the player character). The Pact crumbled under the blow. Each Order blamed each other (and themselves) for his death and separated, leaving Tyria vulnerable.

The Orders Re-visited

Your job, Commander insert your name, is to re-unite the Pact, starting with your own Order. You will inspire new recruits, sway dissenters, go on dangerous missions, and save the other Orders from certain demise, solidifying yourself as a leader that all Orders view as one of their own. You will become the new Marshall.

But you won’t do it alone

You will need a partner. You will need an equal to replace the one you lost on Claw Island. They will fight for you as you set forth to re-unite Tyria against the dragons, eventually becoming your second-in-command.

For the Vigil

Your partner will be Dougal Keane, the hero of the Ghosts of Ascalon novel. Without him, there would be no peace between the humans and the charr. In other words, he is canonically the 2nd most important character in the Guild Wars 2 universe, behind Trahearne (the 3rd most if you count your player character).

Dire times have forced Dougal out of retirement and, as such, he brings his sword, his talents as a Thief, and copious amounts of wit and knowledge to your service.

His new role as your partner will increase continuity between Guild Wars 2 and its Ghosts of Ascalon novel. It will also make good use of a character who is criminally under-employed at the current time.

For the Order of Whispers

Your partner will be Demmi Beetlestone. She is not the same helpless young woman that she was when she was saved from pirates and the Ministry Guard by you and Tybalt. Through the Order, she has blossomed into an intelligent and capable Agent who is eager to impress and work with her savior.

Her position as your partner will increase continuity within your own personal story and allow you to see the positive consequences of your own actions.

For the Priory

Your partner will be Ogden Stonehealer. He is the last known remaining Dwarf (and one of the oldest beings on Tyria). He was one of the heroes who defeated the Great Destroyer in 1078 AE. With the ancient healing arts of a Monk, supplemented with the new innovations of Guardian magic, he will prove to be a valuable ally.

His position as your partner will increase continuity between Guild Wars 2 and Guild Wars 1, even allowing for an easy way for Arenanet to introduce non-GW1 players to GW1 events and/or introduce new lore and events that occurred between games.

Tired of the lack of activity on my world

Duke Blackrose.4981

I’m tired of Orr being dead. Tired of all of the temples always being contested and never being able to trade in my karma for obsidian shards. Of always being Red in WvW because we just happen to be one of the smallest servers in the game.

In other words, Ferguson’s Crossing simply isn’t cutting it for me. Guild Wars 2 was designed from the ground up to be played with groups – which means that a lower population server will feel even more dead than an equivalent server in any other game.

Where can I go for more activity? I want a server that is able and willing to capture temples, especially Balthazar. A server where world completion isn’t a chore and Orr isn’t a case of “me against the world.”

Any recommendations?

I don’t know why they nerfed it at all; wasn’t a large part of the heavy damage it dealt caused by that multi-hit damage multiplying bug, which they fixed in the same patch?
The same thing that was giving Blade Trail and Kill Shot such ridiculous damage, because every time they hit someone the next person would take 2 hits worth of damage, then 3 and so on with each person hit.

Yeah, it was pretty much a nerf within a nerf.

The separation between PvP and PvE exists for a reason – so that skills that are relatively balanced in PvE and overpowered in PvP can be nerfed in one side and not the other. Why then was Dancing Daggers (skill 4 on the off-hand Dagger) HALVED in strength in all formats?

This makes the S/D set even more useless and severely cripples S/D, P/D, and D/D Thieves in PvE. The skill was one of the few great skills in a PvE Thief’s arsenal.

Can you please revert the nerf for PvE, Arenanet?

Personally, I think OH Dagger is one of the best compliments to MH axe. It’s 4th skill helps you close the gap to immediately hit a foe with all 5 axes on your 2 skill. The cripple and frozen chains are also great to prevent the foe’s escape.

how does #4 close the gap??? Not sure if I’m correct here but I thought it has nothing special other than it returning back to you. Personally I think axe4 should work like chieftans axe throw, then I might actually consider using it.

DAGGER, not Axe. Off-Hand Axe seems better suited to a MH sword.

If you trait the off-hand training trait, path of scars gets about a 75% boost in damage. I can hit the heavy golem in the mists for about 1.8k without crits if it hits both ways.

the stupid thing about that trait is that axe main hand is ALL condition, it makes no sense to pair axe with axe.

It’s not really all condition. It’s stuck in the same undecided hole as the greatsword. It has one attack that relies heavily on bleed, but that’s the only condition damage it has, so you never really know how you’re supposed to spec with it.

OT: Personally i love how whirling defense looks. It’s probably the coolest looking skill in the game. My suggestion would be to give it a chance to block. Give us our own more defensive 100b.

The problem with Whirling Defense is that it’s a kittenedly long channel – double the length of similar skills. Even with a pet-swap Quickness combo, it’s still a kittenedly long channel. It simply will not be a viable skill until it is either A) Mobile or Condensed into a shorter channel time.

Also, with its current numbers, I found that I was consistently dealing more damage with Quickness MH sword autos than Quickness Whirling Defense. This really shouldn’t be the case.

Main-hand Axe has ONE condition-inflicting skill and it isn’t even particularly good, quite frankly. Sure, the auto-attack sucks too. But that’s the thing – the only reason to take the MH axe is for the Off-hands, most of which are solid.

Spirits and the 5 target cap for aoe buffs

in Ranger

Posted by: Duke Blackrose.4981

Duke Blackrose.4981

Total face palm when I noticed that spirits receive the buffs as well.

By default, a ranger counts as 2 bodies at least (you + pet). That means you can only give out spirit buffs to 3 other targets. Call out 1 spirit then your ranger counts for 3 bodies (you + pet + 1 spirit) with only 2 other targets to buff. Call out another spirit and your ranger now counts for 4 bodies (you + pet + 2 spirits) with only 1 other target to buff. See the pattern?

I read somewhere that spirit users tend to use ax/horn since your job is that of a buffer. Guess what, your spirits will eat up those buffs essentially wasting them.

So, basically, if I have out three spirits … my pet, 3 spirits, and my character will keep the rest of the group from getting any buffs?

Is this a bug or was it on purpose? Wow, that is so bad it’s almost funny. I hope this gets fixed if it’s a bug.

Are there many lvl 80’s running a spirit build? I would love to but I hear it’s not practical due to their health and so forth … especially if this is true about the buffs.

The elite spirit is the only one I’ve found to have practical applications in PvE – namely for it’s active ally revive. It can allow Ranger players to solo group events that have plentiful npc’s around.

I think the hammer for engineers is a great idea. There would finally be something to use with bombs which is essentially an exploding melee weapon. I hate using bombs right now because everything else I use is ranged

Bombs are also a pretty good kiting weapon. You run while planting bombs to hit your pursuers.

Duke Blackrose.4981

You know you want them. The ability to swing the most aesthetically-pleasing weapons in the game with fluid, one and two-handed Swordmaster motions.

This weapon would emphasize rapid auto-attack damage, freeing up initiative to spend on utility 2-5 skills such as a stealthing gap-closer (that costs 6 initiative), a backwards leap that evades attacks, and a skill that imbues the Thief with protection and swiftness (2 boons that currently lack an on-demand source for them).

I was thinking that the stealth skill could be a large AoE cleave that also bestows Aegis onto the Thief and nearby allies.

In other words, this would be a dps, support, and tanking weapon, rather than a burst one, and fill in some niches the Thief currently doesn’t have covered. And well… it’s a Greatsword. If Arenanet is going to give GS’s the best skins and legendaries, everyone should be able to enjoy one.

What Rangers need - as I see it

Duke Blackrose.4981

It’s no great secret that the Ranger class could use a little help right now. We’re held back by the very mechanics that we’re supposed to be aided by.

As I see it, these are the changes that should EVENTUALLY be looked at. Don’t get me wrong. Every profession has a long list of issues, so we can’t expect to see a whole lot of these any time soon, but Guild Wars 2 hopefully has a long life ahead of it.

Traits

The Marksmanship line as a whole needs work. The minors are borderline worthless on a Ranger as they imply a burst role – in other words, they are misplaced Thief traits. Opening Strike is really only useful in short fights, such as those in open world PvE. They fall off quickly against decent players and bosses. The majors are largely lackluster as well, considering they emphasize Signets – which need work.

Trap traits need to be moved from Skirmishing to Wilderness Survival. Feel free to change the name of Survival utilities and move them to Skirmishing in return. It simply makes no sense for a condition damage utility to be in the critical line. In addition, the Grandmasters need work (Moment of Clarity), The

Axe trait needs buffing – add some Cooldown reduction to it or something. Even better – why not make the trait Precision + Prowess in reasonably generous numbers?

Sharpened Edges and Companion’s Might both suck. Sharpened Edges inflicts too little bleeding to be relevant and Companion’s Might gives such a short Might duration that it is impossible to stack to any significant number.

Wilderness Survival is borderline perfect as is.

Nature Magic sucks because spirits suck. Combine the spirit-based traits more – such that we have 2 large spirit traits, as opposed to 4 small ones. Use the additional room to add in non-spirit traits.

Beast Mastery majors need improvements or outright reworks.

Pets

Improve their attack animation. The easiest fix would probably be to have them leap into every attack, much like the Ranger’s Sword auto-attack. In other words, make them difficult to kite. Adjust their damage accordingly.

Separate their stats between PvP and PvE. Use the resulting opportunity to beef them up for PvE and WvW, where they need it the most.

Utilities

Increase spirit health drastically and improve their traits.

Move Traps from Skirmishing to Wilderness Survival.

Rename Survival skills and move them to Skirmishing with improved trait support.

Improve shouts and trait support.

Improve signets. Combine traits.

Weapons

Buff damage of all weapon types, especially MH axe, Greatsword, and Longbow.

Fix the Sword rooting mechanic on the auto-attack.

Drastically improve under-water Spear. It’s really bad in its current state.

FIX OBSTRUCTION BUGS.

Give us more options for Direct Damage builds. Longbow is currently our only Direct Damage focused weapon (all others being hybrid weapons) and it blows.

If reliability is the sole factor here, I would advise selling the rares as your backup. They are in pretty high demand and you can guarantee the gold of about 1 ecto per rare. Buying BL kits with gems involves either A) Spending real money or Buying gems with gold at their new high price, heavily cutting into any profit you’d make by salvaging the rares in the first place. As for Master’s Kits…. 25% just doesn’t cut it.

Using master salvage kits, I’ve been averaging 0.8 ectos/rare over the last 100 something salvages. With most rares selling for 22-25 silver and ectos selling for 30+s, salvaging rares ends up being more profitable than selling rares directly.

Anet seems to show favoritism

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Duke Blackrose.4981

Ever since release it seems Anet has shown favoritism to classes in all aspects. Not just the attention they pay to them, but items also. Now playing mostly as an engineer I’ve always felt left out. They have yet to (though they say are) make us up to par when compared to other classes. But it is not just the gameplay that I feel that they are paying favoritism it is also the following.

1. Armor. Have you seen heavy armored compared to the rest? The level of detail and pure coolness of it was amazing. It seemd to me that they spent a lot more time creating the armors for them and making each unique. When looking at Medium armor they all seem to be very…lame. Don’t get me wrong, they are some really cool ones. But here is when the other problem arises, the armor seems to go with speicific classes. Most of the medium armor looks like it should be with a ranger (Such as the WvW armor, Arah armor, etc), then the other half seem to go great with thiefs (just about all the starting armor, commando, whipser, etc) while engineers get the dredge armor.

I have to disagree on armor completely. In my opinion, about 90% of heavy armor looks mediocre or outright terrible, with a few great looking sets inbetween (CoF, Vigil, Priory, Arah, Koda, some cultural armors) that tend to be popular. Medium armor, while lacking in diversity, usually looks fantastic. Just off the top of my head: Stalwart, Whispers, CoF, Conquest, many cultural armors, Noble, Rogue armor, the skin used by named sets, etc. all look great.

How about a Dungeon APPLICATION system?

in Suggestions

Posted by: Duke Blackrose.4981

Duke Blackrose.4981

While a dungeon finder can reduce interaction, increase anonymity, and hurt the community overall, a system that merely advertises your character for all to see would be relatively harmless (so long as you leave gear out of the preview).

Basically, it would just be a board where you apply for a certain dungeon or even multiple dungeons at once. Potential parties would see your name, your level, and your profession – and nothing else.

This would help to alleviate /map spam and make finding groups easier while keeping a level of basic social interaction. Because joining is not anonymous, it would not encourage toxic behavior like an automatic dungeon finder might.

Guild Wars 1 had a similar system. It was basic and didn’t filter out different types of messages well enough (it combined LFG functions with trade functions, making it difficult to sift through). The lack of direct player trading in this game should make the search board more accessible should you decide to include it.

Rework Ascended Gear and Infusions

in Suggestions

Posted by: Duke Blackrose.4981

Duke Blackrose.4981

There are players that WANT stats and gear-grinding to feel a sense of accomplishment and purpose in this game, and then there are players who do not want this and would prefer a cosmetic grind. To the latter crowd – the horizontal progression crowd, if you will – the release of ascended gear felt like a betrayal of everything Guild Wars 2 stood for.

My suggestion is simple. Remove the offensive/defensive/etc. infusions that can make a large difference in gear stats. Replace them with a few new infusion options:

“Magic Find Infusion”
Increases magic find by x%.

“Gold Find Infusion”
All enemies are guaranteed to drop at least x gold. If they would have dropped gold regardless, add the minimum gold to the number.

“Karma Boost Infusion”
Increases karma gains by x%.

“Experience Boost Infusion”
Boosts experience gains by x%.

“Gathering Boost Infusion”
Increases chance to gather extra materials.

With this change, Ascended Gear will offer a sort of “advantage” to players that own it without affecting stats.

This kind of cheap design is prevalent in a lot of PvE bosses. Too many of them – instead of having challenging and/or interesting mechanics like a GOOD boss fight – rely on being overpowered forms of regular mobs.

2) There is no reason why damage should be the only important factor in a dungeon. AC paths 1 and 3 are both races against the clock. If you don’t have high damage professions, you are at a significant disadvantage.

3) There is no reason why players should randomly “miss” burrows. The thing didn’t move. You’re aiming right at it. So why did you miss? Hell if I know.

4) There is no reason why the dungeon should be explicitly designed to be a Mesmer’s worst nightmare. Enjoy having little AoE, save for those phantasms that die instantly from the dozens of graveling hatchlings that can spawn.

Honestly, I despise this dungeon just for the mechanics behind it.
