The money & time investment to acquire ascended gear is substantial enough to disallow automatically getting dups. You’re asking for free gear. Skins sure, that’s just cosmetic. But you want free ascended gear for alts. That’s a pretty heavy request.
Totally agree. You don’t need Ascended gear in anything other than Fractals.
If one wants ascended gear, put the work into get it. Others have and you would be diluting the work they did to make the gear.
The nodes change each day at reset so you the maps need an update very day.
Also, to complete the maps you will have to go through WvW, since that is where the rest of map completion is (4% is there – 96% is in PvE).
I don’t get much in the way of gold spammers whispering me ZBUT, I do get tons of spam email (almost daily) saying my GW2 will be shutdown for illegal activities. Then when I look at the link provided (it is spoofed BTW), the link is often to TK or CN. This is how gold spammers are getting into the game, stolen accounts.
For a game that uses DX 9.3C, I am amazed how laggy this game is. I am using a Radeon 7950 and an i5 2500K and in big fights in WvW the game is totally unplayable.
Necros were the only profession that had a groups of it’s own (MM). I agree with Shaogin and too many necros were using MM as a crutch to get through the game without learning what else a necro can do.
I miss the curses from GW1 as that was very unique to the necro profession.
Honestly, this is a solution to a problem that doesn’t exist. I wouldn’t endorse any new weapon idea unless it’s mainhand pistol.
I actually disagree, even though MH pistol would be cool. As it is right now mesmer essentially has four melee skills: sword auto, blurred frenzy, illusionary counter, and illusionary riposte, plus mind wrack with illusionary persona. (There are others that are semi melee, like illusionary wave and staff auto, but they aren’t really melee.) This is across all weapons and slot skills. All other skills are ranged.
So while I’d like to see a main hand pistol as much as the next person, I’d rather prefer some greater variety in melee gameplay, as suggested by the OP.
I think melee was a huge mistake for the Mesmer. Being a squishy as we are, there is not enough dodge and evasion (like rangers) and damage. Yes there was Illusionary Weapon in GW1 but it was a hard build to use and did not do that much damage. I did use it, but it was such a big pain in the rump, due to all the enchants, etc needed to keep you up.
I think Mesmers need to be more daze, confusion, interrupt and , boon remover. Just like in GW1, I think Mesmers need to be more about crowd control and less about face to face damage.
I was using a build such as this but the damage was not as good and conditions not lasting as long. Hence I am using this now – http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vgEQRAra7dlknpTtlqxYNcrNScSB0lOpHmu0nukCcnbA-zEDBYfRGbZIjk3BiIIzECJM5pIastBFRjVVLpqFYqSRW5CwbQamUARMGA-w
Are you considering your build a condi build? I think you may have picked the wrong gear in the builder – with 276 condi dmg, none of your condis are going to be worth much, scepter won’t be doing much dmg, etc.
I am using daze and confusion along with Torment – that is all the conditions – it does a lot more damage than you think. When on Lyssa,, easily doing 3-5K a pop on her.
When using the other build, which was mostly illusion, The damage is not as much although there is more conditions (and takes longer to kill mobs) I also used different armor etc. for that build also.
Hey Shan – will try to make one as a guest, one of these days.
Dusty Moon
It was more pink than purple really and the reasons Mesmer’s skills were that color had to do with the movie the ‘Butterfly Effect’.
……. No…
I have no clue why you cite the movie instead of the theory.
The only thing butterfly about mesmers (in gw1) was soothing images. In fact, their profession symbol was some eye in a hand (which has an Indian meaning about the evil eye, if I remember)
In gw2 is another story, mesmers dropped the evil eye symbol for that of butterflies, most likely to represent Chaos
If you read the developers blog for GW1, they said that the Butterfly Effect was part of the inspiration (heh). Also since GW1 mesmers do Chaos damage – hence the butterfly also and the pink/purple color

I just bought the equipment and tested it with the possibilities we have. now and i wonder why i dropped conditionshatter [My build] :o

I am calling this Dazed and Confused Mesmer – this is a Scepter/Pistol
– Scepter/Focus build
This is the Mesmer build that I have been playing with in Dungeons and the Edge of the Mists. It has been quite fun!
I can see more than that useful in WvW – especially if some of the skills have small AoE affects. They haven’t said yet, but it would make Mesmers more useful in smaller groups.
I can see Powerblock useful but one can’t if one doesn’t rethink the meta game.
It was more pink than purple really and the reasons Mesmer’s skills were that color had to do with the movie the ‘Butterfly Effect’.
I would continue with the off-hand pistol skills but for main hand (something like this).
Blunt Bullet – causes confusion
Ether Bullet – causes damage
Bullet Clone – causes damage and creates a clone that shoots ether bullets at foe
Ripping bullet – removal of boons
(Chill of Slowing) bullet – slows movement and skill recharge
Have to be pink – there was a particular reason why this is.
I can already see uses for these GM traits in various builds.
I can’t wait to try them. I wish April 15th was here already!!!
I think shortbow would be a more fun addition that could even give WvW mesmers a zerg friendly weapon, but hey to each his own.
With the limit of range on the shortbow it limits it, 900 vs 1200. That is why I think this is better, also the bounce damage could be fun.
I have only one Mesmer. Here she is….
The name is the same as my Mesmer in GW1 – I know rather boring but hey! it works!
I am using the Heritage Armor skins – I love the old-fashioned GW1 look.
I have been gingerlay participating In pvp, but man the speed of the game for me and my situational awareness within it needs work.
Think it was like that but maybe even more intimidating in how I recall involving my mesmer in gw1 pvp too though. I just need to get over the stage fright n just do it more offen.
I totally agree. I have also been playing an unusual Mesmer build which I would like to try out more, this way – an experiment, as it were. I would also like to see how this build would do AFTER April 15th.
The idea is to make sure that all traits scale equally. Critical did not and that was an issue.
I think they are trying to make more builds viable to mesmers, is all. Think outside the box. In GW1, not everyone spammed Wastrel’s Worry (which has been the player meta for a while). Same here.
And with the new Grandmaster traits, I could see some REALLY INTERESTING builds being put together.
well mes is not very viable in wvw raids. our job is to veil and portal and maybe boonstrip, but in the current meta there really isnt much u can do. i tried every single build out there and the only one i stick to atm is a pu hybrid so i get to survive and deal a little dmg. my main dmg dealer is gs aa and berserker and then safe the blurred frenzy for survival.
try to not dive into zergs, stay with the casters if u are glassy. if u use shatter then go ganking backlines. but dealing lots of dmg to a a zerg is not possible for us until we get some aoe options.
shatters without ip will fail very often due to illusions dying to fast. in wvw u grab everything that is not ai heavy. so shtterworks because it doesnt require illusions, phantasm is tough atm as our phantasms get cced too often and die too fast, clne death is not viable as the guard, war, ele train cleanses condis too fast, glamour is not viable anymore due to being nerfed to the ground of the grounds, pu hybrid power builds sorta work, zergmower is not bad and u should give it a try, but again condis get cleared very easily.
I think the problem is, many do not think outside the box. Hence why people you see the same things being used again and again. The same issue happened in GW1, anyone remember when Sorrow’s Furnace was released? Mesmers were not well liked – well a group of mesmers got together and started playing together and opinions slowly changed. The same needs to be done now.
I think a dual pistol wielding Mesmer would be something interesting for A.Net to look into. I can see a variety of conditions, damage, boon Strip that could be done with this type of build.
What do others think?
There are so many people getting Commander tags but it has occurred to me that many have no experience in that role. It is a just a bragging rights – ‘I have more money than you’ type of attitude. This is especially true for people who play WvW. Having an inexperienced commander is death in that part of the game. Well, I guess the same can be said for PvE where the Commander says ‘Stack’ and all the players that do die.
I would like to offer a suggestion. How about an ‘Honorary’ Commander title that you can buy and then one that is merit or rank based. This way there is no confusion and true ‘Commanders’ in WvW get their due.
Thank you all for your responses here and in game. I chatted with a few and ended up in Cynical.
Y’all have shown why GW2 has the best guilds and people.
I have currently left a guild where I was one of the few playing GW2 any more. I am looking for a guild that is active in helping each other, doing missions, Dungeons, etc. I played in GW1 (from the beta weekends) and I was the originator of the all-Mesmer runs when Sorrows Furnace came out. I am a very gregarious sort, so I do tend to joke around a bit. I am an older player (52) so would like a guild that is more mature. I am in the Eastern Time Zone so one that has players in that time zone would help also.
I have a lvl 80 Charr Guardian, a lvl 80 Norn Ranger, a lvl 76 Human Mesmer and a few others.
