I see that people still don’t get that:

  1. Roles do not have be something you practice all the time, in every fight.
  2. Roles don’t have to be exclusive to a given player/character.
  3. Roles don’t have to be bound to professions.
  4. Roles don’t have to be bound to gear.

That is what Rift just did and you know what? It totally confused the players used to the Trinity paradigm. Read the forums on Rift – people still only want Warrior = Tank, Cleric = Healers, the rest = DPS. It is the players that are rigid not the game and Rift proved that.

I played Rift from beta up to GW2 BWE and was on the forums all the time. Never once did I read a post where someone complained that they could not understand how multiple callings could perform multiple roles. Never. People did complain that some professions were apex in more than one profession (e.g. best dps and best tank), but that’s a different topic.

They did actually. Just really need to read the posts very carefully and that is what they were doing. I played the same length of time.

Excellent points. Thank you for clarity and honesty. I suppose 15/15/15/15/10 (or whatever variation) isn’t really a huge loss to Celestial builds now that I think of it.

Wow…

The 14/14/14/14/14 built was brought up by devs with a sarcasm sign next to it to illustrate that many players failed to understand traits mechanics and effectively lost 4 important major traits because they thought that an “all-rounder” is something good. To make the system fool-proof, the new system doesn’t allow players to miss these 4 major traits anymore.

Exactly!!

Once you let your IP out, it is hard to prevent people from reverse engineering it.

Working an in area that deals with IP, you need protections in place and that costs.

Right now, Celestial builds were the ‘cheesey’ way to do something. The game was not designed for it but people figured out they could do it, It was kind of like FoW farming with an Assassin in GW1. It was a cheesey build but it worked.

They are purposely redoing the traits so a build like Celestial will not be possible.

Aren’t the achievements associated with dungeons, jumping puzzles, and slaying different kinds of monsters already the “books” you’re looking for?

Exactly – they are already in the game…..

dont need mounts in pve, we have wp EVERYWHERE.

however, it wouldbe cool in wvw if you could build vehicles that were 2x faster than walking and could hold multiple people or something, like the mole people carriers or something. That way you have to put resources into it and it can be destroyed relatively easily, so one person drives back and forth giving people lifts.

No – what that would mean is there would even be less battle and more Faction farming. Sorry that would even make WvW less fun.

GW1 was considered a cooperative RPG not an MMO. Max players you could have in an instance (any of the zones, etc. was 12). The Towns and outposts could be considered graphical lobbies to meet and match players.

“Graphical Lobbies”.. cute term but they were in essence persistent worlds where players could interact with each other as well as perform a myriad of town/outpost related tasks common to GW1.

When people say that GW1 wasn’t an MMORPG, I figure they either a. didn’t play it or b. assume that it’s lack of persistent world style content means it’s not an MMO.

Sorry folks, GW1 was an MMORPG, albeit an odd one. None of this has anything to do with GvG, however. I still hold by my sentiment that GW2 GvG simply wouldn’t be the same and to keep expectations in check before you make demands.

Sounds like two worlds 2 is an MMORPG too then.

GW1 was not an MMO – EVEN A.Net said it was a CORPG -look at the FAQ on the Guildwars.com website. It was a Co-Operative RPG, not an MMO and (Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game -which GW2 is but GW1 is not because there was a max of 12 players in your map and every group had their own copy of the map – think a more advanced Diablo 2).

You can GvG – make a PvP arena and set it up so that you can invite another guild.

lol easier said than done. First of all nobody wants to GvG in a PvP arena, they are too small, some builds do not work, and you do not have your gear.

Celestial will be fine after the patch. I am not worried about it (I use it on one toon I have).

Mine won’t be. I calculated my build to the precise stats and now it will lose 25-35% critical damage minimum. It’s a complete disaster.

No – sorry that is not right as we don’t really know what they will do with the other stats. You are kitten -U-ME-ing a lot and they have suggested what they might do not what they will do. Until then all is conjecture.

Mounts
1. We were wondering if there was a posibel fusher for mounts with the world as large and the map being a open world.
2. The way points are nice but there still contested areas and parts of the map that can be hard to travel on foot a mount would be a helpful the game has made grat stride in it development and we would like to see how you would implment them.
3. we were wondering if they would be just trasportasion or a new companyoin that we could armor and asesorize and even have extra storge for are long travels .
4. we were also wondering if it will be capchuereable or sold buy merchen or through the gem store or made in to a new quest line for us to fallow to unlock in are endless new world
5. we were also hoping that all class could get the mounts
injoy my appion sarry abould spelling

In contested areas you pick the closest point – it only takes one or 2 minutes to run there – would a MOUNT make that much different? NO since many professions have speed boost skills by 33% now. any more is ludicrous.

As someone observed already, this game grinds to halt when you have a lot of players in one area. Adding MOUNTS is like adding an extra player and each player had mounts well this game would grind to a blazing stop – think of the Southsun Cove introduction. Most people couldn’t play and that was with just players and add mounts on top of it? No.

People already complain this game is P2W with the TP and now you want to be able to buy a speed boost also? You can do that already (as stated above). One more thing for people to complain about – No thank you.

It sounds like people want to fight off of mounts too. How would they balance that and what skills would you have? A.Net has enough complaints about balance, new areas, another race, etc. As was stated many times, you just don’t flick a switch and mounts appear in game. You need to model them with each race and size type, one would have to make sure the armor works with them, The game physics/engine would have to be redesigned to deal with this. There are more issues also – that is not some trivial thing you are asking for.

I want A.Net to put new areas into the game. I would like maybe another Race and/or profession. I would like better optimization for the game. I could go on. I will close with this thought, it took them 2 YEARS to come up with this next patch that people have been asking for since the Beta tests – 2 YEARS. Think how long it will take them to come up with mounts? Does the phrase, ‘When Hell freezes over’ come to mind…..

Apologies for the briefness of the suggestions. I’m typing them up on a phone dated from the Dark Ages.

These suggestions are simply suggestions for little things that I feel could add to the game:

Quests

Quests, tasks, missions. Call them what you want, they’re most commonly called Quests.

There could be a number of different types of quests. Before joining an Order, the player could get requests from the organisations that they help / are a part of (for example, Warband quests for the Charr). After selecting an Order, players could start recieving quests from their respective Order, themed around the Order. For example, Vigil members may have to eradicate Flame Legion from CoF, while OoW have to gather intel in the form of battleplans, while Priory members need to research artifacts.

As well as these, place some in the world, but with a twist: don’t put a marker above the NPC’s head, and give the players a quest log where they can make their own notes. For example, one NPC may be looking for a child of theirs. Speaking wouldn’t give an indication that you’re on a quest, but if you speak to that child, it’ll have the option to tell them to go home.

These sort of quests could be hidden in the world as well. You see a pillar engraved with runes, and going back to some Priory researcher, he tells you he’s searching for some ancient text, if you’ve seen it, then you have the option to tell them where you saw it.

Collectors

Collectors are vendors that take your vendor junk in exchange for goods, such as armour and weapon skins, mats associated with that item (broken lockpicks to ore) and so on. These vendors would be around the world, but not marked (or marked, but an option available to switch the icons off).

Amaranth

While this NPC is already in the game, she’s fed up of sticking around the Black Citadel, and the wanderlust has set in again. She’d be the GW2 incarnation of Nic the Traveller.

For those who don’t know who he was, he was an NPC that travelled and requested a different item each week, in exchange for random rewards. In a sense she’d be a travelling collector whose item and location would change weekly. Heck, maybe she’ll wander the zone she’s in for that week.

Tales of an Adventurer

Different NPC’s give out different books, such as:

  • Events
  • Jumping Puzzles
  • Area Beastiary
  • Dungeon – Story Mode
  • Dungeon – Explorable Mode.

Filling in these books would reward different things, depending on how much is filled in. For example, one page would yield T1 mats, while fully completing a book will give the players a choice of an armour / weapon skin, and a title (For example, completing all of the dynamic events in Kryta would award the title Hero of Kryta).

That was a huge bloody mistake they made with GW1 EotN, having books to fill out. One more thing you have to carry around. They were a pain in the rump and not worth the time.

Its actually Gold Wars now

Or Gear Wars, considering we will all have to re-gear after they destroy the celestial armors we spent months making.

Anyway, the lack of GvG in this game has been the biggest disappointment in regards to my expectations for game purchase. It’s a feature I was absolutely certain would be in the game. And no I didn’t do “my research”, I was stupid enough to think that GvG was an essential part of a Guild Wars game.

You can GvG – make a PvP arena and set it up so that you can invite another guild. There is your GvG. – pretty simple really. You can GvG, it is just ‘NOT GW1 GvG’ – I think that is what you want to say. But, GW2 is NOT GW1, so of course they are not the same.

Celestial will be fine after the patch. I am not worried about it (I use it on one toon I have).

So what… if it look or seem impossible for Arena.net implementing mounts in the game,

what are dreams for?

What is wrong with dreaming?

" Without dreams, life would not exist "

" Without possibility, the impossible would enslave us "

Dreaming is one thing – continually posting that “YOU HAVE TO HAVE MOUNTS” on a forum is another. You don’t have to dream by posting.

They can hope – can’t take that away but continually whining on a forum about it is another thing.

5. Mounts would make waypoints unnecessary. I have to say nyeah to this, yes some people would use mounts to go everywhere however I would say that for the most part (mount or no) people would still prefer waypoints for long distances which is where the gold sink is. I don’t see people running across from gendarran fields to Blazeridge steppes for Shatterer when they can waypoint to it.

6. Mounts could be a gem store cosmetic item. WoW has them! I can see where the delight would come to players buying mounts off the trading post, converting gold into gems for some ridiculous 8k price (or more) or opening up the wallet and seeing the butterflies come out after you sank your last $35 on a cool set of armor skins they bought out. Lets take a very common example WoW, WoW has mounts that are available through a range of means, that’s excellent and for WoW it works really well. However with the current structure of the Gem store this would just not work, mounts would be something that would (most likely) be expensive, taking apart the current 2 mounts available on there (which are viable mounts in themselves) adding a mount that was a horse or something I feel would be something that they WOULD NOT want flooded through the market. This means it will be expensive and with the current process where Arena net caps your monthly spending that would not work. Now that is speculation but given how things go in GW2 CURRENTLY, it is a very valid speculation.

7. Mounts would be unnecessary bling. This is part true and part untrue, For some, mounts would be a bragging right (assuming that they were even difficult to get as my previous point states) however if you think about it there are a lot of people who RP on this game, the addition of mounts would add another facet to that particular avenue of this game. Guild wars is an Expansive and a (granted not as much as GW1) very immerse game. It is not so weird that people want to RP and mounts would have a use there. It is an unintended item with an unintended use to them.

8. Adding mounts would change/make the economy crash. This is assuming that the economy had anything to do with how mounts are acquired. GEM to GOLD and GOLD to GEM are determined by the DEV’s, not by players. The addition of mounts to the gem store that are untradeable would not change the economy in the slightest as players do not decide any of these avenues of acquisition.
Mounts will not be added as dungeon rewards or in game rewards (this has been stated by dev’s before) but here’s that argument anyways, this addition would change the economy only if we assume 2 things
1: the mounts are tradeable
2: The mounts are achieved by getting items that are tradeable.
This means people would be buying/selling mounts or the means of getting the mounts and this would in fact crash the economy as we know it*.

That’s most of the arguments that come up every time this is discussed. Please feel free to call me a god or pick apart my argument to use certain parts to prove/disprove points. Most of the meaning will be lost anyways.

My opinion: I do not think that mounts that give any boosts should be added to the game as I feel that would make people slightly lazier than they already are. I do like how they implemented the riding broom and the sonic diggy thingy, I wouldn’t mind more things like this. Toys are fun.

TL;DR you are talking about a game that has many facets, when arguing please research before you make statements.

I will continue with your arguments. They are still invalid.

6. The problem is there is a mount in the BLTP currently and it is not popular. People don’t want mounts as the game is fine with out them. Putting them in the CS, as Rift did, makes the game more ‘ELITIST’ than it already is (zerker mentality).

7. Again – bragging rights are unnecessary in this game beyond what is already there (legendary weapons) and even they are not needed to be competitive in the game. That is the point, they are ‘optional’. Putting in something that is ‘total’ bragging rights is elitist and not inclusive. That is what the GW universe seems to do well, inclusivity.

8. This point about the economy. I will not comment since you assume so much and much of it is not the case, I don’t know where to begin.

I basically invalidated everyone of your arguments but point 8 and that is a shaky argument at best.

Dusty Moon.4382

Ok, right up I’m going to be honest. I only read the first 2 pages of comments and the last page.

There is so much bickering about this for one way or the other so here’s a few facts people should remember about the game before arguing either point.

1. Most medieval games have mounts. This game is not a medieval type game. This game is a fantasy alternate universe RPG, if you are talking times when people rode around on horses and hit each other with swords then you also have to remember the engineer class in this game and the Asura. Asura are a technologically advanced race that would almost definitely be more advanced than any race currently existing in any medieval book and Engi’s use flamethrowers, flamethrowers were not used in a way similar to how Engi’s use them until the late 1800’s on when they found a viable way of storing the energy to propel fire in a controlled way. Before that it was more of a short burst of flame followed by a long and very dangerous reload.

2. Mounts are bad/good for immersion. Mounts for SOME people would ruin the ability to see the huge scope of the game and would make it smaller however for some there would be more immersion and would make them more interested in getting from point A to point B. The existence of the auto run “R” means that while running a lot of people will just “R” and then look away, its inevitable. I’m not saying the “R” button should be removed or that mounts should be introduced, but for some people mounts are a big thing and either way you do have a chunk of people who would just use “R” to get everywhere and not pay attention.
Other side: Having mounts in game for other people creates an unnecessary character model in the already under optimised game. Can you imagine loading in all of gendarran fields main and then everyone’s mount. For people with lower end computers they would have to turn their settings down and this would also cause a loss in immersion. This game needs optimisation before any more character models are introduced, and that is an opinion I think we can all agree with.

3. NPC’s did it, why can’t we? NPC elementalist’s in Orr hit you with 3 water auto attacks and mages hit your entire party with water spurts. Just because NPC’s can do it does not mean that players can (or should).

4. There were no mounts in GW1, we shouldn’t have them in GW2. GW1 had 2 mounts (that I can think of). One was a siege devourer and yes I used that just to laugh because it was abysmally slow and ridiculously huge (apparently you could make it faster though) and it was a mobile siege mount for those that don’t count it as a mount. Also there was a story quest in the desolation that unlocks Wurms to use for movement in the desolation and they were most definitely mounts.

Cont. Next post 5001 word limit*

Your arguments are invalid and you yourself invalidated them. I will explain.

1. This is NOT a medieval game. If it was, we wouldn’t have Sylvari, Asura, Charr and Norn.

2. In games with portals most only have 3-5 (like Rift) in an area NOT 15. Also with the speed boons many professions have, mounts would be replicating what we can already do. Since mounts have never really been developed for GW universe except for specific areas (I will use your Devourer as an example). You really can’t take the devourer out of that that area – so it is a situational mount not a universal mount. NOT THE SAME.

3. MOBS share common skills with players, hence if MOBS had them then we might. That is a valid argument. In many games, MOBS and bosses do not have the same skills that players do (in GW1 many MOBS and bosses had monster skills) but the rest were exactly the same skills as you or I had.

4. I addressed in point 2 but will expound on further. You cannot use that wurm, in the desolation BEYOND that zone. It is a situational mount., not a universal mount (and you want universal mounts). The reason the WURM is there is because the area is poisonous to HUMANS and in order to follow Palawa Joko, you have to become a WURM to travel underground. That is situational. When you get to Rocky areas, you are forced to unmount. This is opposite of a ‘Universal’ Mount, which you can ride anywhere – this is more like a tool and when the tool is done you don’t use it any more (like the tools you get to put together Ikea furniture – not useful after putting together the furniture).

There have been SO MANY THREADS ON THIS – the Name Guild Wars comes from the lore and history, not that there are Guild Wars NOW.

That’s true – but – there’s a bit more. GW had GvG, it’s easy to assume GW2 would have it too, or would have it later.

But the main thing is the name. Before you get back on that lore horse, consider that it’s a name for a franchise that was chosen by ArenaNet. Why? To inspire thoughts in the public about GvG and Guild competition. Lore on one hand, sure, but it isn’t called Guild Wars just for that.

Because the Guilds were important in the history of Tyria and it was close to 100 yrs of Guild Wars going on. It shaped how Tyria developed.

1. More PvE focus

I hope so. I’m a PvE player and these new GM traits look to be very PvP/WvW focused.

The new GM traits are nothing focused. They’re almost all useless in almost all game types. It’s as if the devs just drew random mechanics from a hat and decided to try and shoehorn them into GM traits.

It’s too early to tell. The 3s distortion might work well in zergs, and (although not GM), the torment shatter sounds like it’ll buff condi/shatters. Of course, you never know how these things play out till you get to try it out.

The 3 second distortion is only after you kill a foe not during – that would be more useful.

so why is there no official GvG? I’m honestly shocked in the time that I’ve played this game the closest the community got was the Obsidian Sanctum. Don’t get me wrong the Obsidian Sanctum was amazing for players who wanted GvG and dueling with PvE gear but being limited to two opposing servers at any given time?

Guild raids, guild versus guild, and guild halls should have been a given for this game. Looking back on Guild Wars it’s hard to see how they missed this.

“Tyrian disasters

Throughout the centuries, the continent of Tyria found itself in constant warfare. The multiple Guild Wars raged across human lands – constantly ending and starting again, creating a series of wars between Humans. In all these years, not much aside from the constant wars and temporary times of peace existed. However, nearly two hundred years prior to the Searing, a powerful arcanist known simply as Lord Odran sought to reach into the unknown, and in doing so, by sacrificing many souls, found access to the Hall of Heroes. Though the spirits were outraged at Odran’s intrusion on the land they had paid to access with their life and blood, they could do nothing against beings of the living. For years, Odran explored the Rift and the many worlds, placing his portals in deadly locations and concealing them with spells. Until one day, the spirits of the Rift found a way to harm that which was corporeal and when Odran returned to the Rift they tore his body apart. In doing so that which they hated most came to pass as the spells of protection and concealment over Odran’s portals were removed and mortals gained free access to the Hall of Heroes."

Nailed my opinion exactly, except that I am less optimistic. GW2 deserves credit for breaking the WoW clone cycle and establishing a casual MMO for many people. I’m just not into casual MMOs turns out, because they apparently lack depth were I seek it.

And what is that exactly? Raids, Trinity, I could go on? I am happy there are no Raids and no Trinity. I feel the game does have depth but you need to explore and look around to find it. The destruction of LA while egregious to some was actually a great way to shake people out of their comfort zones.

Destruction of LA was nice but has nothing to do with depth of gamemechanics. I am looking for build variety fueled by rapid balance iterations and more clearly supported roles. Not trinity roles tbh, more like RO had them (12 important/ very strong roles plus a bunch of stuff to experiment with).

Raids suck for many reasons but GW2’s "You need a group, but you are free to disregard all responsibilities " antagonism doesn’t bring any improvement to the subject, except for accessibility. Content which scales with the size of your group (1-10 members) and squad based open world pvp would have been a step forward (for me) though.

It has to do with a world that is living and changes and that does go to the depth of the game. I mean I have played ESO and while it is pretty is about as dull and lifeless as the Original Diablo. The NPC’s just stand there – no movement to them. No patrolling mobs, no nothing.

Mounts, in my opinion, would help with the immersion factor of the game. In most fictions, gaining a mount or something similar is always an epic and glorified moment, showing a character’s (usually the main) has progressed, and this includes video games of course. The moment you acquire your first mount is nothing compared to just discovering a new WP. Although very convenient, WPs sort of take you out of the world, making the world feel small while also being a very boring form of travel(imo). Convenience (more helpful most of the time) and immersion(more fun most of the time) are like yin and yang when comes to these sort of things and require balance. With that said, I would advocate the addition of mounts and removal of some WPs.

I agree 100% I would spend a lot more time riding about on my horse etc, not using the WP’s at all because as you said they make the world seem smaller.

There’s also the fact most players just spam speed boons and the like while not using WPs, so might as well move faster in style. Also, it doesn’t even have to be mounts exactly. I think it’d be rather bad*** if we got elite skills that grants a permanent speed increase with an animation according to the profession. For example, mesmers would hover and propel themselves, necros could turn into a swarm of insects or summon a death chariot, engineers whip out a motorcycle, eles could ride the earth like a wave similar to earth-benders from avatar, etc. It could allow us to cross over bodies of water as well (the ele would begin to ice skate for example). And instead of starting right at the speed cap, you build up speed as you go along to make it more smooth. I doubt it would happen but something to consider.

Some good idea’s there, but I’d also like a horse lol. As I’ve said before I do like some realism in my fantasy, I really don’t like the idea of my fully armoured Guardian running everywhere with all that heavy armour on.

If you know warfare history, only the Royalty and Elites had horses. The rest walked around on foot or by carts. So, in actuality, unless you are part of the ruling class, you walk and that is reality.

Since there are no enchants in this game, hexes would not work. Also, since there is no energy bar (as others have stated OR adrenaline skills – except for a finisher). I put up that GW1 Mesmers had a skill called ‘ignorance’ that would disable signets for a period of time. There are many Warriors and Necros running around with 2-4 signets on their bars in WvW and PvP. If we had a skill that could ‘disable’ signets for a short period of time, it would make Mesmers more valuable and reflect the CONTROL portion of the Mesmer.

I was actually, when pondering the write up, looking at skills like ignorance and wondering why they never made it into Gw2. this one skill could effectively shut down a warriors healing for a span of time and be a hard counter to Passive Signet Effects.

and while hex’s wont work with the system, real time AoE’s work very well as place holders.

It wouldn’t be too much of a stretch to simply throw out phantasms and replace them with traps/marks like the other classes have but keeping the effects tied to something that can be targeted and removed seems a bit less OP overall.

In WvW and PvP I thought A.Net could add Ignorance-type of skill to Null Field.

GW2’s timeframe for doing things has never been short – This is the first game I’ve played that was released under the mantra “we’ll release it when it’s done.” Now I’m sure many of you would argue that they released it far before they should have, but that’s another issue. Living Story was a huge gamble, and one that has never been done before in any other game. They’ve had this whole Scarlet thing planned out since the beginning of LS, and I’m sure they’ve had their feature outline more or less planned out all year, with a little room for adjustments. Player feedback has pushed some of the easier things to implement within their tight LS schedule, but some of the bigger things that needed changing have been pushed back until they’ve possibly been forgotten about, or possibly disregarded due to the effects of another update on the viability of the proposed change.

But now that LS Season 1 is over with, ArenaNet has given some time to look back and figure out what’s gone wrong. And I must say that, with the introduction of a lot of the systems they’re adding on April 15th, they show that they’re not afraid to make some pretty huge changes. […]

How would it help with immersion? If you read ANY of the Guild Wars Novels, no mounts are even mentioned, other than a Golem which is used for fighting. If you look at anything the Charr make, it is strictly military and based on war/combat.

Mounts end up being immersion -breaking for all the points you have listed. I have never played a game where the mounts built up speed. That is too hard to program and adds a level of complexity to an item that is supposedly for looks alone. Also, is the fact that every game that I have played, with mounts, mounted players run past other players on foot (doing quests, BTW) and aggroing everything in their path. Most times then not, the player on foot dies because of the over-agro of mounts. We have way points in this game or you can have mounts. Since way points are part of the lore of Guild Wars (when I mean that I mean they don’t exist in the games except for very specific instances – the Wurms in the desolation is one), and mounts are not, they WOULD be immersion breaking.

The kick system isn’t broken. Just right click on the offenders’ names in chat and report them for scamming.

How many people have been banned through this. That’s right 0.

How do you know? There may have been. We really don’t know and saying definitively ‘NO ONE’ is most certainly wrong.

I thought games were supposed to be fun?

People who say what is the point are making the game a job not fun. Isn’t that what we all play games for, escapism and fun?

Some people play it to gain success in a world not tied to the massive problems the real world possesses. To this crowd, ‘fun’ isn’t a consideration, the success within the game is their reason to go on. One would imagine that if there was no way to succeed and validate themselves, it wouldn’t be very fulfilling.

It is a very sad world, in which we live in, when people use escapism to justify their existence. I realize that it is easier to do it in a game, than fix what is broken in other places but, a game is not reality and we really have to live in reality.

Games are escapism, plain and simple, like movies, etc.

Personally i’m against any more beast races, since they would only make it even more complicated to create new armor sets because of even more clipping issues.

yeah, the armor clipping issues would be complicated to deal with if Tengu were playable. There aren’t really too many Tengu npc’s though, and I haven’t seen them with a whole lot of armor.
Even the Hylek have a decent looking set of armor for them, but I really don’t like the look of them. Koda wouldn’t be too difficult because they use the same model as Norns.

There is a link for the various professions of Tengu in GW1. In GW1 they were really a pain to kill.

They also live in Cantha – you meet them on the starter island in in Kaineng City – http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Tengu

Also try the story of Master Togo, if you got the History add on, explains the Tengu war with the Humans.

They no longer live in Cantha.

Where does it say that? I went through the lore and no where does it say they left Cantha. Just because they say united, doesn’t mean there are no Tengu in Cantha. You are over reaching there.

In GW1 there were 3 types of Tengu. If they do become a playable race, it will be interesting to see which one.

There were actually 5 tribes: http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Tengu

However, apperently, they have united in the time between GW1 and GW2: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Tengu

Also, this would be a connection to Cantha but since A.Net was told not to do any ‘Oriental’ Theme, it would be hard to go there.

You do know, the Tengu live in Kryta and not in Cantha right? http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Dominion_of_Winds

What I’m asking is for that type of skills to interrupt just finishers, not every skill, if that’s your concern. Finishing an enemy should require you to stay put in one place.
The way things are now, classes with shadowstep skills have an edge over others when finishing enemies in PvP/WvW.
All I’m asking for is balance.

Did you know that a full DPS-traited Mesmer with all phantasms up and doing everything he can provides as much damage as your meta axe-mace Warrior pushing 111111 on autoattack?

Yeah, it’s “balance” you’re asking for.

But a Mesmer can also teleport, can cause invisibility, can strip boons, increase attack spede, all WITH that same build. It is all NOT ABOUT the ‘zerker’ mentality. That is the issue. Players get stuck in the simplest mind set to get through a game, no experimentation is required.

I like the idea of a surprise update. But I can’t see it happening any time soon because ANET loves their Sylvari.

I like Sylvari and since both Tengu and Sylvari fit with the lore of GW it will be nice. Remember, Ventari was a Centaur you meet in GW1 and Ronan is a human you meet in EotN expansion so the lore for Sylvari was started.

An expansion could be also for a Sylvari LS where we try to find the 2nd Pale Tree which was discussed in one PS branch from the Sylvari.

…how exactly do you get “no horses” from what you just posted? i’m either missing something or i am not as smart as i thought i was. i’m getting the exact opposite

Why did the Centaurs attack the humans so much and basically almost crushed them under hoove? It might be due to using the horses as beasts of burden, which would be considered an insult to the Centaurs….

Actually there is lore about it- The Centaurs? They are basically part horse and in LA before it was destroyed – there were several NPCs who reference horses. If you stand near the Dwayna Waypoint in Divinity’s Reach, there are two Seraph talking smack about centaurs and one of them says, “Horses are for riding” in disgust. A lot of the derogatory things humans say about centaurs revolve around comparing them to horses or ponies. So, I think the Centaurs rescued the horses, so there is none in GW, that one can see alive.

There is your lore about no horses.

There is no hate, I just can’t justify wasting precious A.Net resources on mounts. There is so much to fix in the game.

As for as lore breaking – it is. I disagree with you. Hence why way points were made.

I fell just saying. ‘I want mounts!’ sounds like a 2 yr. old stomping his feet when he can’t have his way.

As I said before, since they don’t have the physics (yes game physics) built in for mounts, that has to be added, as does the modeling of the various mounts to the various races on mounts (with all the different armor, also). That is a ton of work. And don’t point to GW1, with the necrid horsemen, as they were modeled as one piece. Same can be said for the Stone Summit.

It is not a one click add for mounts. I would rather them spend time on new areas to explore, since mounts will be about the same amount of work but fewer people will use them and enjoy them.

The broom is a perfect example.

As I said earlier in this thread, we have the way point and Portal system. It was established in in GW1 and continued in GW2. There were ‘situational’ mounts in GW1, such as the wurm in the Desolation but you could not cross that area without them, so it was mandatory and you could not use them in any other area.

Mounts are unnecessary in this game and more than likely a distraction. We will be moving to ‘megaservers’ and that means they need to make sure that the game code is even more optimized. All this is MORE important than some trinket that people use to say ‘LOOK AT ME!’.

Your priorities are not universal. Distractions are my priority.

Personally I’d love a mount system similar to FFXI’s, with a proper breeding/maintenance mini-game. I couldn’t care less for a speed boost but mounts would really add to my immersion (as a roleplayer, I’d be ecstatic) and would offer interesting opportunities.
http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/wiki/Chocobo_Raising
http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/wiki/The_Chocobo_Hot_and_Cold_Game

Another pro-mounts argument: people love collecting stuff. But simple, racial mounts could also add a whole new layer to the cosmetic game, in the form of:
http://www.lotro.com/forums/showthread.php?484123-Show-us-your-favorite-war-steed-outfit

Lore breaking should be a universal no no. Mounts in this game would be lore breaking.

This is not an FF game, this is a Guild Wars game. They do not have the same lore or even races (thank the Six Gods there are no elves in GW). Just because you want them does not mean they should be in the game. Do you ALWAYS get everything you want in life?

It would depend on what server you’re on. People have basically abandoned the weaker servers in droves due to free transfers and the WvW tourney.

Im not too sure about ESO. Personally I’m enjoying the game, but I don’t think it compares to GW2. And the metacrit score for it seems to agree with that.

I agree with the comment about ESO. ESO is a wannabe game. Let’s see what happens at the 3 month mark. People were to max level in ESO in 12 hours, so the game is that small. I got to lvl 20 quite easily and was bored with the game.

The new D3 content, well that is not an MMO so you really can’t equate GW2 with D3.

No, I am not seeing a decrease – most people are currently in the start of Season Two of the WvW Tournament. Try to queue up for WvW. It has not decreased, no MMO has done that. There is a normal ebb and flow of players from a B2P game.

-Mounts
-Capes
-Holy Trinity
-Instanced raids (especially with exclusive raid-gear)

also
-level-cap increase

Unfortunately Capes were in GW1. That could be done although the guild backpacks and armor makes it unlikely.

Interesting perspective. Most of the threads on the forums are asking for AreaNet to add stuff. It’d be fascinating to see our very own development team state what they cannot and will not add to GW2.

I feel that the initial reactions to being told what can’t be done would be negative from the community. However, with the new limitations in mind, suggestions for future content could be more in-line with that the developers can do.

It is not negative but was PLAINLY SPOKEN by the developers in the past and why should they repeat themselves. If people can’t understand that, then what else are we supposed to do?

An example, some people keep whining about is mounts. But we don’t need them in a game with waypoints and Asuran Portal system and speed boosts that professions have. What would mounts gain us over that? No one has given any good reasons other than ‘It would be cool’ or ‘I want them, that is why’. Those are not reasons.

I know I can give plenty of good reasons why they shouldn’t be in the game but that is for the mount thread. The point being, when you give people definitive reason why it can’t be done (Lore, design, etc.) but they still whine about it, how can you not be negative?

But what you have there is Lyssa, several champions AND several Veterans, so it is a fight that needs more coordination and less mindless zerg attitude.

Im not stupid, not mindlessly zerking all i see.
Attacking just Lyssa, evading attacks, turning when blinding like most of the people.
That being said, Lyssa scales just too much, and many people think and feel the same.

You need to also look out behind and around Lyssa too. As I said, Champs and Veterans spawn around here and they can to a lot of damage to you very quickly.

I don’t feel it is any worse than Grenth or any of the others.

Anet patch note are already a disgrace in the MMO community. Don’t get me wrong, i love the game, been playing for 1,5 year and I’ll continue to play. But these patch notes are a joke compare to those of most other MMO out there. They already skip a lot of fixes, changes, nerf, etc And a lot of the stuff that they do put into the patch notes are so vague.

If they keep secret about some of the things that will come into the game, they need to be careful. I have no problem if they don’t wrote about a specific content that is added to the game. Always fun to find a little quest, or a new funny NPC or something like that. But its frustrating when you enter a dungeon path and a Troll jump on you without any warning, that was so bad.

Actually compared to what I saw in Rift, ESO Beta, TERA, TSW, etc. they are not that bad. Also, this is a box to play game, not a sub game, they ‘owe’ you nothing.
