So you better tell your customers in advance: “hey we take some time to implement it. Before we try it on a few parts” and if they don’t like it you hurry even more just because you hope they shut up after a while?

In the case of Megaserver, the product was delivered as documented ahead of schedule. That seems like a success.

I had no influence on that particular product at all. I didn’t order it. So for their “schedule” and I have no doubt that they see it that way it is a success. But for their customers? They may care for their product do they really care for their users?

Sure you did but you were in the minority – it happens in all walks of life. I like CD players in cars but many of the auto manufacturers are getting rid of them. I had no influence in that decision either. and that is way more expensive purchase than a video game.

You are one of MANY customers – they have to please as many as they can. I am letting it play out and see where the chips fall.

THEIR GAME – THEIR VISION, not yours. You have not coded, put blood, sweat and yes, tears into this game and playing doesn’t count.

This is pretty much the sentiment that led RIFT to fall from a promising game to a game that can’t get above 45 even as free to play. Start blaming the complainers and you’ll have no game.

Sorry – I was playing Rift and stopped playing BECAUSE TRION LISTENED TO WHINERS, not being true to their own vision. The complainers ruined Rift, no one else. A great example was the 3 faction PvP – Complainers wanted it and the developers put it in the game but there was only 2 Factions in the game and lore.

Constructive criticism is absolutely fine and warranted. But the complaining in most of these thread is unwarranted and just screams of ‘Entitlement’ and ‘my opinion is the most important’.

Recent Patch

Dusty Moon.4382

Before I begin let me say that this is my opinion and my personal feelings towards the state of the game. Also I didnt know where to post this so its going here.

Now I bought GW2 for 1 reason and 1 reason only. SPVP. Even before the game was released its pvp concept excited me more than any other game out there. The fact that in spvp you didnt need to be maxed lvl or have the best gear or certain builds to play and have fun was a welcomed sight. With that being said, I had, have, will have no interest in PVE what so ever. Thats just me. In my mind I played WoW, I did my time leveling up just to be able to do arenas…. I just want to kill people in pvp…WIth this most recent patch introduced the wardrobe system. Awesome concept indeed I can admit but it has its flaws.

1. I am missing skins thats I already had. Now at first I didnt notice, but then it was 1 or 2 in heavy armor, a few in medium and also in light. Now what really baffles me is that its not an entire set. I.E. in light armor I have everything for the vigil set except the legs… funny because 3 of my toons before the patch had those legging equiped.

2. Now because I do not PVE and only SPVP all of my toons are obviously low level, most lvl 1. So when I log onto my lvl 1 necro to spvp I enter the mist wearing what a starter wears. No gloves.. no shoulders..no helm.. well poop. Where the hell am I supposed to get those.. I so far have found no answer. I now feel like I am forced to level up then buy or find shoulders/gloves/helm just so I can use them in spvp.

3. And lastly Transmutation Charges. Why is it that I now have to pay to use what I already have. What are you? Apple? That just seems ridiculous to me. Am I the only one?

Again these are my personal opinons. Any feedback or solutions are very much welcome. Because as it stands I sadly am about to turn to a not so impressive ESO just because I feel forced to do something(PVE) I previously didnt have to do. Which in all honest is sad because I love GW2 =[

sorry for the wall of text..

1. What skins are you talking about? Unless you salvage or equip them for PvE, or actually go in to the HotM , they will not be put into your locker.

2. There are PvP mechants in HotM – go there.

3. What do you mean pay? You mean the paltry amount to use them? No you don’t – you just use a Transmutation charge up nothing else. This is a non-issue. You always had to buy them (BLTP) or got them from achievements.

Go to ESO – pay your 17,000 gold to get your crappy mount then realize that you need to pay 45,000 gold to get one with a good speed boost. Go listen to all the gold sellers and play with the camp bots. I am sure you will appreciate it.

Unfortunately, none of your complaints are factual.

I didn’t want the mega-server yesterday, I wanted it when it’s ready.

You know, you can test all you want but until it is rolled out, you never know what is going to happen. This is coming from an applications person – there are NEVER smooth rollouts, NEVER.

Don’t scream please.^^ And yes they change their plans no matter how many concerns got raised before polishing the system and forcing it on all maps.

When the Mega-Server got announced I had concerns but I didn’t make alot of drama. When it went live I was willing to give that stuff a chance. I encountered some weired stuff but anyway I thought “hey they got plenty of time to polish it until it gets released everywhere”. And dumb as I was I really thought they would take all the concerns that got raised into consideration before they spread it on all maps.

Haha, I was pretty wrong. I came back from my easter-hollidays and everything is turned into a Megaserver. They try to change a few things but I have my doubts that they care enough to make it likeable for everyone.

Tbh, I don’t expect them to talk I expect them to care.

THEIR GAME – THEIR VISION, not yours. You have not coded, put blood, sweat and yes, tears into this game and playing doesn’t count.

This game is very complex, like most games. They are trying to deal with all the lag people have been complaining about by doing something with the servers. Will there be hiccups, of course. Will players let them fix things – no they always want it yesterday as most have this attitude of ‘entitlement’. I would say something different but since this game is B2P and no sub fee, I feel they are doing their best they can.

IT could be done in the character screen – pretty easily and then give them an RP chat channel.

A.Net does not hate RP’ers – your statement belies the fact they said that RP guilds will be on the same mega server to help with this.

This is funny – in GW1 there people ALWAYS people using different languages and I was in a European- based guild at the time (I am a NA player also). There is no problem just people not being understanding and going with the flow – it is ‘the all about me’ attitude that drives this type of attitude.

You do know you can buy them straight up for 3 gold and 20 skill points each right?

He did say that people were in chat were saying, “just pay gold noob” so I imagine he does know. But some people would like to earn them by playing the game and not by buying them.

Very much this! I also like the challenge to achieve it myself then buying it with gold. Buying it with gold is the easy way out.

In a game where you can get almost any thing with a swipe of a credit card. That point is moot.

Welcome to Guild Wars 2. You must be new here.

You need skill points AND GOLD – this is just like in GW1 – no difference. It is not a big deal.

Hello there.

One thing that is certainly causing many discussions about “how awful our community is” is when people give “tsunamis” of feedback, questions and reports about several things and since the patch, one incredible silence involved all ArenaNet team, if they reply threads is to warn the thread may be blocked or actually block/merge the thread.

Why so much silence? Why don’t make community know you are aware of certain issues and working on them? Or discuss alternatives with the community of points you’re open to make changes?

I think things several times scale to the points moderators need to step in due abuses, people feel they are not heard, that specific groups of players are with problems with the patch and they try to report or ask to something to be done about it and it’s just… silence, like they are not even reading.

Why don’t ANet does a simply reply on a thread just saying something like: “We know there is some issues with guild missions after the patch and we’re are working to fix them.”? (just one example)
Not only that, try to ask for constructive feedback about the things that need changes, the mega-threads can’t address specific issues.

I honestly believe when it comes to create one Healthy Community, that is a process that takes several years, the team that is behind interact with the community on this forums is not taking steps to make that happen.

Sorry my English.

They already stated that they are not going to show their hands any more and this was due to the LS. They said a lot and people were figuring out what was going on. They want some thing for players to figure out themselves.

Most games, now a days, do not have healthy communities. Why is that? Too many players feel they are ‘OWED’ something and most are just plain snarky. This attitude means they complain about EVERYTHING, just to complain. A great example is the wardrobe system, people wanted it and the same people are complaining about it.

You can’t change players. A.Net has done all they can, now it is up to the players. A.Net can change the game all they want to foster a good community but players have the ultimate responsibility in this. ASK THE PLAYERS, NOT A.NET.

I find nothing wrong with the mega-servers at all. It is nice to be in Orr and ACTAULLY see people besides when the Temple events are going on.

No to paying for map unlocking – that really does make the game P2W. That is asking for trouble.

No to renting maps.

Not good ideas at all. Let’s wait until the mega-servers really are in full swing before doing anything.

It made me experiment and test on the spot various builds.

With my Engi now I’m running a Cleric Build of all things, where I take advantage of the Performance enhancement and Energized Armor traits to balance my stats a little, as well as Healing Bombs to Heal the zerg while doing aoe damage!

Wow I love roaming around in WvW and not being able to outdamage a tank thanks soo much for this funtertaining addition to the game! Its so much fun getting completely wrecked by condi builds whereas before it was only slightly in their favor! ONCE AGAIN AMAZING DECISION! I <3 being an even bigger underdog its so great…

Conditions stack, so if the build has more than one condition it puts out, it should do more damage than straight damage. That was the problem with conditions – the one that was stacked the highest did the damage – that was a game flaw.

Damage alone used to be called pressure builds in GW1

How is it a poor customer service decision when they warned us all several times, and well in advance, about the change to glory? Just because you refuse to read any patch notes, or notes warning of coming changes does not mean it’s a poor customer service decision.

It’s noone’s fault except your own. Take some accountability and deal with your poor decision.

The GW2 forums have a few thousand users; but GW2 allegedly has millions of players.

I happen to agree that important announcements should happen in game.

It was on PC Gamer, GW2 Reddit, MMORPG, etc. It was all over the place. Why should it be announced in game? People ignore in game announcements anyway – ‘NEW BUILD – restarting game in 30 minutes’ – player 1 – ‘Dang it – I just started a dungeon’ – player 2 – ‘I saw the announcement – why didn’t you?’

I had a huge stack of these as well. Anet should have converted them into a different boost like WvW or something. The fact that they didn’t is terrible customer service.

They said repeatedly to use them up as they are not replacing them. The fact that you are dumb enough not to read and heed what they said, is NOT their fault and does not make it bad customer service. It is YOUR FAULT ALONE.

Your whiteknighting logic is faulty.

Announcing that they are making a poor customer service decision does not remove the fact that it is a poor customer service decision.

It is like Microsoft announcing that they will not be supporting Win XP any more. People are whining and complaining but they made sure they stated it in no uncertain terms. This was done the same way. It has nothing to do with customer service and everything to do with arrogance from the players.

They were always “viable” they were just never optimal and amazingly enough after this change, they still will not be optimal and still will not be wanted in groups trying to be optimal.

If anything non zerk users will have less chance of getting in optimized groups because it will not be as easy to carry people using sub optimal builds and gear.

Sure they will – I have a build using Carrion armor and Knight’s trinkets and it is bloody amazing compared to the same build using Zerker everything and more survivable too.

People just need to experiment now. Stop going and using the same cookie cutter builds posted on the internet.

Game Updates: Traits

Dusty Moon.4382

This system is similar to the system in GW1. I would think the GW1 fans would appreciate it, I guess not.

No it’s not.

In GW1, you hunted a boss for an elite skill. You had henchmen and heroes and could solo the bosses no problems. And you could go get it whenever you wanted. The boss was always there. No waiting for other players, no fail timer to have to beat, you could do it when you wanted at your own pace.

In GW2, you have to do the massive scale world events to get a trait. Not a skill, a trait. Grenth? Karka Queen? Yeah. You have to rely on other players to not mess things up just so YOU can get a new trait. And it’s all on timers as well. So you can’t do it whenever you want, you have to deal with boss timers before you can even get a chance to get your new trait.

And over time, after players have got the trait, and no one is doing those events anymore, good luck getting your trait with no one to help.

So yeah. It’s nothing like it was in GW1.

You could buy skills, if you had skill points, so it is EXACTLY THE SAME as GW1 (if you had them unlocked).

Nerfing Crit but not touching Condition?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Dusty Moon.4382

Dusty Moon.4382

Im really curious as to why Anet honestly nerfed Crit, I barely knew anyone who used Berserker Gear and now Im one of the only people I know who does.. Everyone changed to conditions and let me tell you, I use to rarely die to conditions, I have videos to prove it on a full Zerk Mesmer. Now I go out and try to fight 2 or 1 Condi and I get wrecked, without being able to touch them. Just curious as to the reason behind it.

The reason being, if you read the notes, Crit did not scale properly. In PvE Conditions didn’t stack properly (which they seem to do now). PvE conditions were changed to work properly – and I guarantee that you zerker will die from them now, if you are not careful. Conditions in PvE seem to be in like with PvE/PvP now. This is why.

Deal with it. If you played GW1 you know Conditions did more damage than just straight damage and should – because they stack on each other.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Dusty Moon.4382

GW2 isn’t a vertical MMO. It’s Horizontal. With no subscription, we’re lucky to get any new content at all.

GW1 was also not subscription based, and it got all that content (as far as I can tell, I never played it). would have been nice to have all of that by now though.

No, but you bought new chapters – Factions then Nightfall and then the add on Eye of the North. You paid for each one and each one could stand alone, meaning you could buy one of them without the others (except EotM needed Prophecies). So, this is not the same.

A proper expansion means you will end up paying another 60-100 dollars for the content. The LS content was free. Which MMO gives you free content like that? – WoW were all paid/sub expansions. Name one other? There aren’t any.

It is done and OP whining about it like you have does no one any good. Unlike other games, A.Net does collect tons of data which tells them what is working and not working. The changes are there to make ALL builds viable, just not the player decided meta game.

3:1 (stone:charge) conversion, but I sort of understand why. Don’t like it, but I understand.

“Boss chests in dungeons are now limited to once a day.” Sadness. I don’t really feel this was necessary, considering how much else is limited to ‘once per day.’

I think it was way out of control as the ‘champ trains’ were too numerous and interfered with regular players trying to do quests and the like. I think it is about time. The Champ Train people did this to themselves – no one else did – another farming nerf. It was an flaw in the game and players exploited it, they could ban you but they aren’t, they just closed the loopholes.

The ferocity change is outrageous. I feel like the “10% dps loss overall” wasn’t properly explained. No one expected to lose over 30% crit damage, if they did people wouldn’t have remained quiet.

The ratio needs to somehow be changed. 15 ferocity for 1% crit damage is absurd. Make it 10 or give everyone with an ascended armor zerk set the option to change their stats. Right now I feel fooled and very unlikely to log into your game. I just have no motivation to do so anymore.

I mean everything was nerfed! Divinity runes, scholar runes, trinkets, ascended, even FOOD! Everything I own is now completely worthless. Sure we still do more damage as zerkers but the tradeoff is not worth it anymore.

Sure it is – it just means other builds are just as viable and that is the point. ‘Zerker’ is still the best but not by so much that it is all people have to run – that was the player defined meta not the game designer’s meta.

You know, you have to scramble some eggs to make an omelet. Time to really learn what your profession can do not just read some builds and use them.

Not broken at all Shan – more fixed than broken.

The problem is Critical damage DID NOT scale and some were OP in that. The ‘Zerker’ meta was not supposed to be so OP that you only play that. Other builds are now viable and some more so than ‘Zerker’.

I also noticed that they seemed to fix the condition damage problem in PvE. That means conditions on you in PvE will be the same.

The game needed a little shaking up – people were complacent.

With gold farming being nerfed that much more they are actually just after your wallet.

No, many players, from GW1, wanted to have the same system. Basically kill a boss to capture an elite – that is all this is. Nothing more.

The whole skill system is from GW1, and means you only have to unlock what you want to unlock, nothing more.

My wife and I play this from time to time to relax after a tough day. Prior to patch, she started a new mesmer and was having fun with the character. She made it to level 19 with that character before the patch. After the patch, she was frustrated and aggravated. She says she did not have as much fun and could tell a definite difference that she was missing the few trait points she had at that point. Unfortunately, now she isn’t sure how much she wants to play since most of her characters are less than level 80 (others level 50 – 65).

It means that weapons, armor, and trinkets are important now – before you could run around with armor below your level and get away with it. Now it is like GW2, where until you hit max level, your armor needs to be adjusted.

I think after Ventari left his Refuge and went to where the current Pale Tree is located in GW2 – (that was Arbor Bay from EotN).

What Nerelith wanted to say is that people that are satisfied with the status quo do not need to supply any reason beyond “we like things as they are” because they are not trying to convince anyone. People that want change however do need to supply reason for it. And if there is a large part of community that doesn’t want that change, the reason must be really good. No such reason has been supplied so far.

If my argument is flawed yours is as well, in the exact same way in fact. The developers are working on something, and will be doing so continually until the day the GW2 servers shut down. You could just as easily say that because something is being worked on, “we’d like that work the be spent on this”, and be just as justified in that desire for action as anyone be in their desire for any other action, ambiguity does not make one thing more valid that another, less if it has any affect at all.

You’d be right only if the developers actually worked on mounts, or already planned to work on mounts. Otherwise my reasoning still stands.

Any new introduction to the game needs to be weighted in terms of necessity (does the game needs it?), desirability (do the people want it? are the people against it?) and difficulty (how hard it is to implement). For something to be done, the first two need to outweight the third. In the case of mounts, you failed to supply any valid reason for first, and are losing on second (more people seem to be against it than for it). The difficulty is also definitely not zero.

Deciding to introduce something new and not introducing it are not equal options as far as supplying reason for either is concerned . The second will always be easier.

In other words the burden is on those wishing mounts to give reasons that are compelling.

“I want it, I think it would be cool.” isn’t.

So true.

Nope – would be a drain on the economy and would have to be rebalanced.

The way it is fine the way it is.

My opinion about mechanics in GW2 PVE

Add a real trinity system and problem solved…

That would be going backwards not forwards. Many of the bosses would ignore a tank or totally destroy one, the way the current mechanics are. The Trinity is so simple as to be mind-numbing – The tank taunts to get agro and keeps agro that way – the healers heal the tanks and DPS, the DPS ‘PEW-PEW’ – WOW that is really complex!!!

In order to get your ‘favored’ game mechanic – the whole game would have to be redone. That only happens with FF games.

What made anet turn against their Trinity?

In EQ2 it were more like 4 roles, Tank, Healer, DD and Utility/Buffer like Bards. Bards were not needed in 6 player dungeon groups, but were really essential in raids.

Dark Age of Camelot made bards into a 4th class too. GW2 is very similar to that game. WvW is pretty much a carbon copy of DAoC’s RvR system, more specifically the New Frontiers version. Three borderlands surrounding a central area with capturable keeps and castles. Even the knocking down doors and walls with siege machines to kill a guild claimable NPC boss that controlled ownership of the castle was the same.

Every group needed a bard, they were the only ones who could cast swiftness effectively. Some heal and rdps could cast lesser versions, but you’d be dead in the water against a group with a bard type class because they could move twice as fast as you. I played Skald there for quite a lot of years, the Midgard faction’s bard class.

A.net could not do Hall of Heros, for GW2, since the 6 Gods are forsaking Tyria, so they came up with something else. You can see some of the preworkings of this in the various aspects of PvP in GW1. Like capturing points the Jade Quarry, Protecting Turtles -erp Dolyaks, etc. It is all there, just not in one bow-wrapped package.

What made anet turn against their Trinity?

good post.

I feel that if Anet uses the AI they use for the dualing NPCs in the mist for all mobs (they dodge and kite in addition to DPS), we’ll see more uses for all gear types.

ANET’s trinity got lost mainly for these reasons:

1. PvE Mobs are designed badly.
Defiance makes control pretty much useless, no need to skill for control.
Very, very big HP Pools on bosses make anything hybrid a chore not worth the effort for what you get at the end.
Support builds can be build with max damage gear, making support gear meaningless.
Condition damage is capped hard.
Healing is a joke when you see that continues healing of 4 People in a 5 man dungeon is not enough when you have insta down skills on bosses.
Dodge (+vigor) makes everything avoidable if you are good enough.

Leading to a meta that encourages buff Support with max DPS equip. Leaving condition outside due to the cap.
<snip for length>
Long Story short, to have fun you will want to kill stuff and get stuff from them to make yourself better, to kill more stuff and so on. This leads to the simple premise, that games are all about HP on enemies and DPS on yourself.

A dead player does not do any dps, thats the reason for healers. But if it’s just healing, it’s not tactical, so somebody thought of tanks. That’s the trinity we know, build around the premise of killing something.
Taking the trinity of tank and healer away, that just leaves us with dps. But over the time other meachnics were introduced like support through buffs or debuffing the enemy, as well as control through interrupts etc. This is actually more fun for some people, than the standard Tank/Healer/DPS Setup, as it leads to a more strategical fight than just tanking, healing, kill it.
Arenanet tried to use support (low heal, buff and debuff) and control as roles. But they also wanted every class to be able to fill these roles if demanded. Due to the nature of the game (killing enemies as the major incentive) dps is always king. Everybody wants as much dps as possible and just as many support as necessary. This leads to the Status quo: taking zerker gear and support utility, while control in PvE is neglectable due to defiance.

It would actually be possible to change this with a different Boss Setup. Instead of killing the Boss, one has to defend NPC’s etc, thus a greater need for Support, healing etc. Another Option in WvWvW for example would be increased points for defending keeps. This would lead to a new meta, where survival is top and support would become the actual most important Thing next to dps, while still having to kill and conquer. This kind of gameplay would just be terrible boring. Who wants to stand all day in a keep to defend it, if somebody Comes to capture it? So, here it’s the same: Killing enemies and capture keeps is more fun and therefore zerg meta was created.
PvP has actually the defensive System. Everybody needs to keep his spots to gain points. That is why in PvP there is an actual “Balance” of trinity with bunker and Support builds. Still, other problems apply like a too small group (5 man) to make it meaningfull and the sheer amount of support, control abilities every class can bring are pushing specialized Support/control builds into meaningless.

Point 1. Every game does this – Rift bosses were the best example in Raid dungeons. They do not have poor mechanics but change based on level of area and dungeon. Also, at least open world bosses in GW2 scale for the amount of people around them.

Again the player attitude – the ‘zerker’ mentality. There is more than one way to skin a cat and in this game it is true – not so with the Trinity model – set roles and not good ones at that.

AHH – there are times when you have to defend NPC’s actually may of the around Tyria. I think you need to play the game.

Maybe not forum app, but game chat app – like Guild chat and friends list could make a good app.
Blizzard has this for like 3 or so years now and even charges for it. People still use it tho

God I hated that in Rift – people on their cell phones chatting away. ANNOYING!
