Im gonna take the low odds. I say, by evening tomorrow, after we have seen this thing in a live-pre-recorded fight on POI, people are going to change thier minds about traps.

I dont think Anet would really see the traps of Thief and Ranger, know how people generally feel about them and decide “You know these Elite Specs? give them something just like those ones. Yeah just make them more light themed. That will do”

These traps are going to be amazing.

Am I the only one that likes the name?

Eggs.3142

Your not. People were just a little blind sided by the idea and traps. In time no one will care about the name. Or the traps.

It just goes to show you that Anet is willing to really change up how a class plays, so in the future we might need to widen our ideas as to what rolls class can fill.

Dragonhunter… eh? Ok.. is this a joke?

Weapon – Longbow
Skills – Traps

Weapon Skills
——————
Bow has a focus of firing single, large projectiles .

Symbol of Energy – Fires an arrow into an area granting Vigor to allies.
Deflecting Shot – Destroys projectiles in its path.

Traps
——-
Heal Trap – Heals for a small amount when placed. Heals for a large amount, as well as applying Blind when triggered.

Where is the damage to kill a dragon? Wait… are we talking about zhaitanesque fights? Why not just call it a paragon as it is indeed a Paragon 2.0?

Let’s wait and see if this specialization gets better as more details are revealed/polished.

Damage? For all we know the base Auto Attack does 4,000 damage with a base critical hit chance of 120% All the video showed were lights and effecets

Just remember, its not all about boosting a class, its about giving them what they didn’t have much of before. Lets look at the things they showed in that regard:

Wings of Resolve: A more malleable ‘chase’ skill. Arguably this might be more of a PVP thing. But the only other chase skill the guardian has is Leap of Faith. Which is great and all, but sort of locks you in to greatsword. With Wings of Resolve you can either have a leap heal, or a leap damage regardless of the weapon.

Video Mark 30: What is this skill? It looks like some sort of ranged mark. Its in the monsters face, maybe its blind. But it’s got crossed swords indicating damage perhaps? Is this a new DOT, or what? They said its backlines support so maybe its boosts other players something.

Symbol of Flames (name made up): Video 34. Looks like a ranged weapon based Purifying Flames. Burn the enemy cleanse allies, all from the safety of your own home? Sounds great.

VIP Section: Video 40. Notice how the Guardian does the Ranger style Pinning Volley, rain from above, but it makes alittle gate around them? How great is that going to be. Keep them in one spot. Seems like a great skill to have to help all the other classes with their skill-shot and targeted aoe’s

Im excited. Cant wait for tomorrow when they show what the traps do in more specifics

Well of Gravity rename suggestion

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Eggs.3142

Eggs.3142

I belive it is a play on the term: Gravity Well

From Wiki: A gravity well or gravitational well is a conceptual model of the gravitational field surrounding a body in space – the more massive the body, the deeper and more extensive the gravity well associated with it. The Sun is very massive, relative to other bodies in the Solar System, so the corresponding gravity well that surrounds it appears “deep” and far-reaching.

How can you feel cheated? Its not like any other players have any other advantage in getting them. If they did they would be cheating. If Anet decided “only people who have played for x number of hours can get them” the people who don’t have that would be cheated.

Please merge Fall Damage traits

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Eggs.3142

Eggs.3142

Its not just reduced fall damage though. For example, the elemental one does various rings and waves.

For all we know it will be common in Maguuma to glide and drop in on enemies from a great height. And it would be more welcome to drop in and blow up a ring of fire, or muddy terrain, or a symbol of protection, then to gain vigor on critical (though arguably maybe not as good as Arcane skills 20% recharge reduction)

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Eggs.3142

Eggs.3142

Fall Damage Reduction mastery does make sense now that we will be gliding around. But then thats also a good case for it being a trait. In the base game its a fun little throw away for when you want to cut some corners when running about. Now, when your gliding past 6 wyvrens and you run out of glide-juice, its a tactical strategy to slot it

Specialisation feedback from casual player

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Eggs.3142

Eggs.3142

Example 2: Earth’s embrace – elementalist earth adept
The problem with this trait is that it happens on passing a percentage of hp. That means that i as a casual player and people watching the game at an arbitrary moment of time will see an explosion of particle effects, and then a new countdown will go off, that prevents this from happening, but we dont have any way to see this cooldown going off.
The solution might be to make the trait like this:
on 25% of hp recharge equipped earth utility skill with maximum recharge time left. Cooldown 60 seconds.
Magnetic shield, Earth’s armor, earth signet.
It is not the best, since it happens at an arbitrary moment, but it is already better than what is now, and it is by default will have a place to show the recharge time – on the tooltip of equipped earth skills.

Arbitrary, you keep using that word but im not sure you know what it means. Arbitrary means that it happens for no specific reason at all. Every trait specificly outlines when it will happen. For example: “Chance to Cause Blindness” is that was the whole text of a trait, then it would truly be an arbitrary condition. It just happens when the game wants it too. “When you drop below 25% health” “When you Critical” “When you Evade” these are all finite, definitive events that you can watch for.

There is no solution to your precised problem. of “I want to use X trait, but dont want to use Y weapon or skill.” Even in your vigorous shout example, if you want to have vigorus shout but want to use great swords, you don’t get it. So why not just make the trait “Using any weapons gives you the vigorous shout buff”

I’m not trying to sound salty, but every trait is designed to focus a class, and they do a good job at that. If every class could use all of its traits at once, every warrior would be the same, every necromancer would be the same, ever mesmer would be the same, every…. etc etc

This is not grinding to me. Grinding is spending several hours doing one or two activities to get a small amount of reward, over and over and over, till you can turn that small amount of reward into one large one.

What if, instead of calling it a dropped item, Anet just said “While playing in Maguuma a happy little quaggan npc may spawn near your character and invite you to join the beta”

Same exact mechanic, but now its feels like Willi Quaggan and the Beta Factory, and everyone would be dancing naked in Lions arch when it happens to them.

This is only a problem is one thing is true: Elite = Better

If the ONE Tempest line, traits, skills, is better then ANY combination of Core Skills, then problems will arise. So far I have see nothing that says Elite Specs’ will be Better, just different.

They might just open up new styles of play for classes. Maybe Tempest if a Crowd Control spec. It will still get trounced by pure damage specs in pvp, and wvw. Wont be able to heal and defend as well as water/earth specs.

It sounds like, what you mean is, you want more gold sinks.

When the amount of gold being produced is greater than the amount being removed from circulation, the value gets inflated.

Right now what are the gold sinks in this game? Waypoints, TP tax and Salvage Kits.

Now, what are the ways someone can make 1g? Im not going to list them because alot of events grant 1 gold.

As you see the amount of gold a person needs to spend per adventure is much much lower than what you can make.

We just need a few more high-ticket gold sinks to fix inflation. A Pay-Per-Run Dungeon (with rewards for the cost), Mystery loot Boxes, I dont know, there are alot of ways you could do it

The name of the break bar

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Eggs.3142

Eggs.3142

Since apparently blind will be able to deplete it as well as other CC skills to reach the same prescribed result for the mob (irregardless of what sort of CC was used) I propose calling it the “blind bar” or, more accurately, the “scripted event” bar

This is from the TenTonHammer Article: ArenaNet have also leveled the playing field when it comes to crowd control skills used against Defiance and added a specific value for each one. A Blind will remove less of the Breakbar than, say, a Stun or a Daze. That doesn’t mean weaker crowd control skills are useless, it just means crowd control skills now have a clearly visible worth against Champion and Legendary enemies.

So why do i keep seeing people say this about blind?

I guess in the sense that blind -will also deplete the bar- yes then thats true, in the same manner that a spoon can drain a bathtub, but id rather use a bucket

Suggestion: Runes and Sigil Managment

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Eggs.3142

Eggs.3142

Whats the best part about salvaging? Getting Ecto, Ore, Wood and Cloth
Whats the worst part about salvaging? Getting Runes and Sigils

Now, i’m not saying runes and sigils are bad, i’m just saying when you are mass salvaging from a world boss run, or dungeon, your inventory can quickly fill up with runes and sigils. You could use a lower quality kit, but then you lose out on the higher chance to get materials from them.

Here are a few options I think we could do:

1) Make Runes and Sigils stowable like any other crafting material
Pro: Easily hit ‘Store All’ to free up inventory space
Con: You might get 250 very fast and run out of storage space

2) Make a Special Salvage kit
Pro: You could make several. One that sacrifices runes and sigil recovery for higher chance to get rare mats, or a kit that sacrifices material recovery for chance to salvage higher quality or quantities of runes and sigils.
Con: You loose recovering one or the other.

Thoughts?

Side Bar: Ascended runes and sigils? Legendary ones even?

I am in a guild, most people aren’t they? My guild has two active members. We don’t really need any more, don’t necessarily want to go recruiting more. It works for us. What doens’t work for us really is that we cant upgrade our guild anymore because we need guild merit. To get guild merit you need those little blue ribbons. The problem with getting those is that the only way to get them at the start is through Guild bounties. Two people cant do a guild bounty.

I think it would be nice if there was a way for us to gain guild distinctions without needing to recruit new people. That or perhaps remove the distinction requirement for the ones two people could possibly do, like Guild Trek.

pfff hate to see anet abusing us like this. Getting a reviewer who barely played since the release to comment on the upcoming xpac, this just feels like the interviewer after the Xpac was announced. Not blaming Angry Joe for this, but it just looks like they were trying to seek another market mechanism to promote the Xpac more. If anet really cared about us they would send some expert players of pvp/pve/wvw to interview. There are alot of unsolved problems out there on the field, but this way it’s not beneficial in any way for our community…

The thing about players of the game is that, they often times are not the best for press or interviewing. Just go look at any post game or pre game show for any major sporting event. The players tend not to be the most eloquent, or even interesting. Nothing against pvp or wvw or even pve players of this game, but, your not a game reviewer. aNet is trying to spread the word and the excitement. What your decribing is a focus group, where they WANT to get critical feed back to change the system. You wouldnt send a games reviewer to a focus group any more then youd send your average joe (did you see what I did there?) gw2 player to spread the press of your game
