Viability of a Rampager Ele in PvE/Maybe WvW

I use a lot of Rampager’s gear because it’s reasonably priced. And you can kit it out however you like with runes, crests, etc… So if you change your mind later you can alter your gear a bit, and change weapons sets, etc… In PvE it shouldn’t matter as much – but if you’re going to be playing with a large group or zerg a lot, remember there’s a cap on condition damage. So if you have a lot of people doing condition damage at the same time, it won’t be as effective.

Yeah, I prefer the older version, even though people who have never used it keep telling me how ineffective it was. It had way more utility than I’m getting out of the new version. And yeah, I could totally change my build for infinite swiftness.(I use the Staff AoE Boon Bomber, which allows for this.) But there are times when I don’t want to change to an Arcana or Air-heavy build. I wish they’d split traits into PvE and non-PvE versions, like they do with skills. In PvE I find the old one more effective. I can’t even break aggro with the new one.

I like your ideas. But they just buffed conjures, so it may be a while before they change them again.

Yes, One with Air now grants 1.5 seconds of 100% speed boost. I found the old One with Air much more useful in PvE. I started a thread earlier, and there was some discussion about it:

@ Kodiak – This is why we can’t have nice things. Actually that analysis seems very “on target”. Especially when you consider that the change came out in the Halloween update. The exploit potential probably provided the motivation for them to make a change to One with Air. I’d rather they just strip traits along with skills for events like that. And leave PvE alone.

Thank you to everyone for your responses.(Though anyone who has anything else to add, please feel free to do so.)
Thanks especially to Fishbones and Graendall for your detailed responses and the info on Fresh Air builds.(And Fishbones, people don’t want a video as proof, they want to see a demonstration of the techniques discussed to make sure they properly understand them. If you have the time, we’d love to see a video. If not, don’t worry about it.)
From what we’ve discussed, it looks like this change was aimed primarily at PvP/WvW. Though I’d like to see a video of how people are using this before I write it off.(I haven’t really been able to make it work for me in PvE yet.)
At some point I may put in a suggestion that they split some traits into PvE & PvP/ WvW versions like they do with some skills.
Because the old version really was effective in PvE. People seem to miss the fact that you’re already at +10% speed boost with that many points in air. So it’s not +0 to +25 in 50 seconds, it’s +10 to +25 in 30 seconds. And you can swap into and out of that mode without changing weapons or skills, even if you’re “In Combat”. It seemed like a small “Ele-only” benefit stacked against Ele’s inability to change weapons in combat. If you’re running from a way point to an event, it’s a definite benefit.
And I’ve had more success breaking aggro with the old version, than with the new version. So maybe this is a good argument for splitting traits into PvE and non-PvE versions. I’ll have to learn more before I can decide.

Still the trait speed buff method has advantages over the skill(signet) method. It doesn’t mess up your build, and you can swap in/out of “running mode” while “in combat”. This is less of a problem with Eles, since they don’t have elementals up as much as Rangers and Necros have pets/minions.(Also, with that many points in Air, you start out at base 10%. It may be a bug but it seemed to start at base 10 and add from there.)

But Fishbones had the kind of answer I was really looking for. Except I was hoping for more details. Where is the best place to learn about “Fresh Air” build(s)? And how do you make use of the short speed burst with that type of build?
re: RTL – Yeah, that would be a lot of fun. Almost worth giving up a relatively cost-free, no hassle, 25% speed buff.

That’s a partial answer and a partial solution. To be fair, I can use signet of air like I can use the Ranger and Necro signets. Place the signet of air into my skill bar to “up shift” when I want to run, and “down shift” when I’’m about to go into combat. But my Ele utility skills are really more crucial for my Ele, and I’d like to avoid that if possible.(also you get drawn into combat a lot and can’t change skills)
But you also failed to answer the primary part of the question:
“What benefit is there to a 1.5 second, 100% speed boost?”(Bonus points if you can give me that in less than 15 characters.) I’m seriously wondering why they would do something like that. I figure I must be missing something.

I don’t understand why they chose to change One with Air they way they recently did. It used to offer a passive 25% speed boost similar Ranger’s Signet of the Hunt or Necros’ Signet of the Locust. Now it just gives a 1.5 second 100% speed boost. I don’t see the utility of this. But I only play PvE, so is there some PvP or WvW benefit?
Now Ele’s don’t have a good “constant on” passive speed buff,(without having to seriously re-arrange traits and/or swap weapons, which Ele’s have to open the inventory screen to do) and I’d like to understand what the tradeoff is. What is the upside of swapping a constant 25% speed boost for a 1.5 second 100% speed boost?

I just tested this, and it does give a very brief burst of high speed. But it doesn’t seem to continue to give the old, passive speed boost. And if that’s the case it’s pretty much no longer useful. Why would a 1.5 sec 100% speed boost be considered more useful than a constant passive 25% speed boost? I can’t follow the line of reasoning there.

She didn’t say “This won’t be fixed for at least 24 hours.”, she said “it probably won’t happen today.”(copied and pasted from her in this same thread.) And it was fixed the next day. (Staying up a little later would not have been enough.) With over an hour left for people to get the daily. I was able to get it, so I know it was fixed in time.

This is still broken at 11am Eastern time on 2013-08-09. The heart vendor at Shaemoor Garrison sells Seraph Standard rations for only 21 karma each. It’s a quick, cheap test.

No, cost is part of “simple and easy”. You’re totally ignoring the fact that most people don’t have the near infinite in-game money that you apparently have.(16 character slots, don’t worry about construction time – just throw money at it) For most individuals in the game, I’d wager getting that much influence is not so “simple and easy”.
Besides, I don’t want to spend in-game (or real life) money to make a poor workaround for options that got taken out of the game. The wallet is great in many respects, but it does change things in ways that work against how some people want to play. And over-spending because of lag or key-bounce is still an issue, except for people who have near infinite in-game money.(Which certainly isn’t me or anyone I know.)

Yes, but I’m sure speeding up construction significantly in that way is cost prohibitive for most people. My point is that making a guild just for money storage is not a simple, easy thing, nor does it address the issue of forcibly lumping all currency and funds into a single account-wide pool. People ought to have a choice how they divide their money amongst their characters.
That said, the wallet does make many aspects of in game “currency” much more convenient to deal with. I wish they’d let the currency/tokens for the bi-weekly “Living World” stuff(support tokens, fortune scraps, etc…) be kept in the wallet.

And how does that work?(speeding up construction time with the button) Does it cost more money, or more influence? Or does it just prioritize it over other things you have in progress? There has to be some down side/cost, or they wouldn’t have implemented construction times in the first place.

And that still doesn’t address my other points.(accidental overspend, individual character funds) Players ought to have the option to divide their gold in separate pools among characters if they want to. And it shouldn’t require making your own guild just for that purpose.

How do you speed up build items?

Elden Arnaas.4870

Yes, you can buy influence(Which costs 2.5 gold or 16 laurels – if you have it to spare.) But no, you cannot have it immediately. Construction is 4 days, if you time it and set up the item to be constructed right after the previous one has finished. (Or pay for the Guild Workshop, which is another 500 influence and 2 days construction time.)

But the point is – lag or key bounce during a trading post session could easily make someone over-spend, when the available cash is everything on the whole account.
And a lot of people keep their characters’ funds separate and budget for each character individually. They make each character earn and pay for his/her own things, and have a group pool in the bank for other things.

Guild Wars 1 guild halls had a lot of those features, and it was great. And GW2 guild halls have been promised form the beginning. so I really hope it happens. People who want to go into the cities, can still go into the cities. Guild Halls wouldn’t prevent that.

You don’t automatically get guild storage with a guild. You have to spend influence in Architecture level 1(500 influence), and then Architecture level 2(1,000 influence) then 100 for the first level of guild storage.(Guild Stash) For a total of 2,500 influence and several days construction time. So it’s not as simple as “Just go make your own guild.”

If the weather effects significantly impact how well you can see, this would get game imbalancing. In towns it could work well, but in combat areas weather effects should not impair the player’s ability to see.

Along with “Follow”, these are easily 3 of the top 5 things missed by GW1 players who move over to GW2. And this was brought up a lot during the beta and early days of GW2. So I’ll try to let you down easy. The “auto-navigation” type functions in GW1 caused a lot of problems for the devs, and they always wanted that functionality taken out of GW1. So this was not implemented in GW2, and with the more sophisticated map topography, it would certainly not be practical to put it back in. I’m with you – I really miss it, but it isn’t something that will be put back in. Maybe a dev will comment here and give us some of the technical reasons.

Is there a reason we haven’t been given a way to import old Guild Wars 1 guild emblems into Guild Wars 2?
