The appropriate guild hall upgrade is the first stage of WvW War room restoration and the vendor there – who sells Badges of Tribute.(The process that Illconceived Was Na elaborated on.) You go to your guild hall,(if it has war room restoration level 1 or higher) purchase the Badge of Tribute to qualify for “Big Spender” and get the WvW reward track potion from that. It is a long process, but you do not have participate in WvW at all. You just have to go to a map and choose the proper reward track, then drink 80 potions.

What the Mystic Forge Equipment page doesn’t show you is that for many of those items(if not all?) there is an alternate recipe that substitutes 250 Bloodstone Dust for the Vial of Condensed Mists Essence. You need to look at that items page to see the alternate recipe. For example:

https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Book_of_Secrets

https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Mystic_Forge/Equipment

But if you have Season 3 unlocked, the Living Story Season 3 backpacks and other trinkets are imo, pretty easy to get. And the ones from Bloodstone Fen can have their stats changed with for only 100 unbound magic.

re: So your argument is that you saw 4 tagged up once but no one has reported to seeing ANet later. – No, I assert that there were Anet employees at the turret farm, checking out the viability of the turret farm “solution”. But during this same period of time, I noticed no Anet employee presence in the actual leather farm runs up and down the hill. (Nor did anyone else volunteer that they saw Anet employees with leather farm runs.) This makes it look like they cared only about the nerf, and not about preserving the actual farm. I observed them one place, but not the other.(And yes, I was at both places.) Anet should have had visibility on both sides of the issue. They should have at least made it look like they cared about the impact on the leather farm.

I was there – making an effort to observe the effect on turret farm, and the effect on leather farm. I asked for other player’s observations – many reported Anet presence at turret farm. No one reported Anet presence at leather farm.

I find this both conclusive and reasonable.

But how about you? When you were there, right after the change.(like I was) What did you observe that you would consider reasonable and conclusive?

The point is, I noticed four of them, tagged up, checking out the effects of their solution on the turret farm. But I did not notice any, tagged up, checking to see what effect their solution had on the intended leather farm. Why would they be tagged up for one and not the other?
And(to be fair) I asked if anyone else had seen Anet employees accompanying the leather farm to check how that was affected by the change. And no one has reported (in this thread, or any other that I’ve noticed) seeing any Anet employees with the leather farm. So it makes it look like all that was important to them was stopping turret farm, not preserving leather farm.

And I’ve seen several Anet employees in game. Though when they’re tagged up it’s generally for company business, rather than playing for fun. I would suggest that they probably have alternate accounts that they play for fun. I know that I would want separate work and fun accounts if I worked for a game company.

Yeah, this make a not very popular leather farm much less appealing. Anet felt that something had to be done. And at least they didn’t nerf engineers or turrets.

I saw four Anet employees last Tuesday checking out the camp and surrounding area. But I saw no Anet employees with any of the groups I was with that went up the hill, trying to see how the legitimate and intended farm was impacted. Has anyone had an Anet employee in any group actually going up the hill? I think that they need to take a look at how their solution impacted the intended leather farm. And especially the high Sage Event at the top. They’ve added a significant amount of difficulty to legitimate play in the area.

Can we change guild missions pop req

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Elden Arnaas.4870

Elden Arnaas.4870

I would choose PvE missions.(the number of players required really seems to just be a recommendation for the PvE missions) Though the medium and hard bounties do seem to require large groups, easy bounties are not too bad with a group of 2 to 4. Use the wiki or dulfy guides for treks and bounties. Easy treks and bounties are doable with 2 to 4.

Call out the bounties in map chat. Often other guilds are looking for the same bounty and you can help each other. Tagging up with a commander or mentor tag will help people find it. Also, some players just flock to tags. Some bounties are just difficult and/or unpleasant. Avoid these. For easy bounties, you’ll get the same 3 or 4 bounties over and over. Medium and hard bounties seem to be intended for large groups.(check all of the 200+ barrels on the map until you find the bounty, kick each of the dozens of interactive trees, etc…) With a small group, I would stick to the easy bounties.

Treks are much easier with a guide. Have each person type the location they want to claim in guild or party chat. That way everyone knows what’s been taken and can easily determine what’s left to be tagged.

Rushes/races can be piggybacked on one that another guild has in progress. Check and see if another guild is doing the one you need. If not, check again later. You will probably find some of these are just difficult or unpleasant. Skip those.

Gathering tools shared slots

Elden Arnaas.4870

This has been requested for a long time, and it would be very nice to have 3 “account -wide gathering tool slots”. But I think ArenaNet’s answer to this is shared inventory slots.
And it’s pretty simple to do. Just put one of each type of infinite gather tool into a shared inventory slot. Then keep regular gather tools on all your characters.(I’d use orichalcum or whatever is the highest tool that character can use) When you log into a character, make a habit of clicking in each of the infinite tools in the shared inventory slots, then verify that the regular tools are now showing. Now you’re good to gather. Then before you log out of each character, click on each of the regular tools in the shared inventory slots, and make sure that the infinite tools are showing, Now log out and they will be available for the next character. It comes down to making a habit of swapping tools each time you log in and log out. And you’ll probably mess up sometimes and waste a few charges on the regular tools, or leave them on a character that you’ve logged out of. But it’s a simple thing to fix. And if you equip high-tier regular tools on each character, it won’t matter much if you do make a mistake and end up with the regular tools for a while. I used to do this with gather tools in the bank, and shared inventory slots makes the process much easier.

DR is not RNG based. You have to be consistent in how you play. And you have to work it off once it accumulates. And you have to pay attention and put some effort into zerg farming. If you’re mindlessly following a blob and spamming 1 while doing something else at the same time, then that could very well be your problem.
<edit>
Logging off does nothing to diminish accumulated DR. You have to take that character to another map and play there for a while, or use another character.(Which will also accumulate DR that needs to be worked off.)

After 30 minutes, I had 93 heavy supply bags, 51 hooves, and zero hides. I also got maybe one-third the other drops you get while doing the farm “normally”. Someone with me said that he had 7 hides after 45 minutes. I also played “actively” the same as when I’ve been farming that same spot with small groups of “active” players. By the “active” (non-turret)method, I got less heavy supply bags, and a few hides. I also got far less of the regular(items) drops. So this method gives different drops than playing “actively” with a small group of players doing the same. We also had a few players playing “actively” with us. I didn’t ask any of them about their results.

So this definitely isn’t a way to farm leather. It also isn’t as fun as the zerg.(“normal” way) Every so often a group of centaurs will plow through the turret group, knocking people down and destroying turrets. So I don’t think you could AFK for long. But I never tried that, so I don’t know how long it would work. Or what the drops would be like.

This does not really impact groups going up and down the hill as far as I can see. I was in a group running up and down the hill while the turret farm was going down below. It will impact the amount of enemies that the traveling group will get in the camp at ground level, but that is a minimal part of the route.

It might take a significant chunk of people from the traveling zerg(who switch to the stationary turret farm) but we’ll have to see if that happens. I also imagine that if you get too many players in the turret farm, that it will become significantly less profitable.

As far as being AFK, many of them will actively defend what they’re doing in chat. So at least some of them aren’t AFK. Also, having farmed this area with a small group of players actively playing, I know that this is still a dangerous area. You probably can’t just sit there and expect to stay alive for any length of time.

As far as it being actively playing or not, I can’t say yet. I’m going to see if I can find a group and join in. I would guess it’s more active than Necro berry farming, but I’ll know more later.

small guild problem

Elden Arnaas.4870

If you want to succeed in claiming your guild hall, take a group of 7 to 9 people. More than this will scale up the event, less that this will lessen your chance of success.

I would pitch this strongly to your guild mates. It’s a one time thing, then you’ll have a guild hall. Get as many of them as you can, try to PUG the rest from LFG. You might also post on the Player Helping Players forum.(If you do, be sure to tell them whether you’re Europe or North American region.) Gilded Hollow is easier to claim with a small group.(it is less spread out) And IMO, it also has a more convenient layout.

Once you have claimed the guild hall(or even before) 50 gold for each will get you a repair anvil, and a merchant. This is a large part of the convenience of a guild hall, and you don’t even have to do any guild missions for it. The next biggest convenience is bank access, which will require the scribing crafting station. And that will take some investment. (wiki guild hall upgrades) But once you have that, you have most of what you go to town for.

As for the guild events, try to get at least 3 people(total) and do the easy ones. If you do the easy bounties, you’ll get the same 3 over and over. Use the dulfy guide or wiki until you have the map and route for those 3 memorized. Call out in map chat about the bounty, and you’ll often have help.

For the treks, do the easy ones, and use the dulfy guide or the wiki.

For the rushes – if another guild has started one, you can start yours and so long as you can get enough people through(your total combined with theirs) your guild gets credit.

It isn’t easy. But you can get the basic stuff you need without it being too unpleasant. The various wiki pages and dulfy guides are invaluable resources. Look up guild upgrades on the wiki and plan out what you need and what you want. Then work on a plan to get there. It isn’t like it was in the previous Guild Wars games, but it’s doable.

We don’t want people trying to command because they want whatever the “incentive” might be.

Yes, commanders enhance the game experience quite a lot. And by commanders I mean people who actually command, not the idiots who just bought expensive bling so they could be seen from space.
I think that there are probably a lot of people who don’t understand that commanding is a job. They don’t just tag up so that they can be seen on the map, and continue to just play the game as normal. It’s a lot more work than that. And they do it because they want to help other players. Not that it isn’t fun. But it is demanding, and requires some commitment.
So thanks to anyone who makes an effort. And thanks especially to those who have made themselves very good at commanding.

I think this would be a great idea, with the following change:
A summary section or headline is added to the squad message, to be displayed on mouse-hover over the commander’s tag.(instead of the long message.). Enough for one decently long sentence like: “Map clear, no hearts or events”, “Chest train – all welcome” “Mastery point and hero point train”, etc… this would deal with 1), and somewhat with 2).
As for 3), troll commanders can do this in other ways if they’re going to.
<edit>
I think that this would be a very useful feature for mentor tags as well.

Which is a shame because it’s one of the worst things Anet has ever put in the game.(and there’s actually a high level of consensus on this)

And to make it worse, the “Updrafts”(that aren’t really updrafts) insta-kill you if you try to enter them like updrafts.(jumping/popping your glider)

I feel your pain. I despise jumping, and especially how much in GW2 is gated behind jumping.

If you’re in NA region, Zealots of Shiverpeak and ROFL do map clear runs, including portals at vistas.(ROFL is doing Wayfarer Foothills next Tuesday) I’m sure there are more guilds that do map clear, those are just the ones I know about. If you’re in EU, there are certainly guilds who do map clear runs there as well.

And +1 to Ballistic’s point about videos. They can be quite helpful. I find some of my difficulties with vistas and JP’s are not really knowing the proper path to jump, or missing little tricks that aren’t apparent to me. You can also just sit for a while and watch other people do those vistas that you’re having difficulty with. I find that helpful as well. I recommend videos by AyinMaiden. You can find plenty of them on youtube.

Lastly, it’s best to be in a medium to small sized character for jumping. If you’re in a Norn or a Charr, you might want to get a permanent tonic that will transform you into a smaller form. Or a cheap tonic that you can buy a lot of. (though not all tonic forms can jump)The various Wintersday toys can jump, as well as the various quaggan. There’s also a shrinking tonic available on one of the new LS S3 maps.

Having just played this again, the dialog goes like “Shield yourself or take to the skies!” and “Cover up or get off the ground!”. The wiki doesn’t mention a “take cover” option at all. Maybe it is just there to justify the NPC’s standing there and not taking damage. So the lines are just pointless and confusing, and have no real reason to be in.

The “updrafts” bugged for only 1 person this time. But the Penalty Box makes that much more of a problem than it would be otherwise. It’s a horrible feeling, only able to watch and not act.

Update on Hearts and Minds

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Elden Arnaas.4870

Elden Arnaas.4870

The thing I’ve personally seen quite a bit, but hasn’t really been addressed here yet, is that there is no good way through the “Take to the skies or get under cover!” phases. Both the “updrafts”(that aren’t really updrafts) and Braham’s shield are buggy/gitchy, or whatever you want to call it. They will both fail to do what they’re supposed to do and instead cause characters to insta-die. If either of these could be fixed to work consistently, it would solve so much of the unnecessary difficulties with this encounter. No one has brought up that the shield would be a viable alternative to the “updrafts”(that aren’t really updrafts) if it worked. When updrafts seemed to be bugging a lot we tried Braham’s shield and it insta-killed us more consistently than the updrafts. If only one of these options could be made to work consistently, the message at the beginning of the phase could be changed to “Don’t glide, get under Braham’s shield” or “Don’t take cover under Braham’s shield, walk into the updraft’s instead”.

Also, dividing the chapter into two(fighting you way to Mordremoth, and actually fighting Mordremoth) and putting several working checkpoints in the fight would help immensely.

So far, the only thing brought up consistently here that Sean has said is not doable is taking out the “Penalty Box”. I’m hoping that means that adding check points and fixing “updrafts” and the break bar are doable.

Lastly, let me add my voice to all the others raised against The Penalty Box. – This was a horrible thing to do to players. Especially when there are buggy, glitchy mechanics that can put you there. Who thought that having players sit watching the fight, unable to help or get back in the fight, was a good idea?

Please Sean, if you’re still watching this thread, please take this back to the rest of the Anet staff: Please do not do anything like The Penalty Box again. If the fight is so badly busted that you need something like that, then please slip your release date and take the time to redo the fight so that it works properly.

Also, this is the second time that ArenaNet has shipped a paid GW2 release with the end boss fight(the most crucial part of the product) in a “sub par” state. You’re 0 for 2, and this reflects quite poorly on ArenaNet. This trend needs to change.

And just imagine if it actually did happen. Elite specs were generally much overpowered and imbalanced when they shipped. And they needed to be nerfed and balanced. Just think how angry people would be if they paid gems for an elite spec and Anet goes and nerfs it later on. Just imagine that. There would be cries of “false advertising” and “bait and switch”, etc… It would be a PR disaster. If Anet had the guts to nerf and balance the gem store elite specs. re: If you can type paragraphs without spacing issues then the problem you describe is made up as an excuse to not break habit of “super jumping”. – If you don’t experience the issue yourself, you can always say that the other person is just making their own problems.

And obviously all those players in Australia just didn’t know what they were doing, right after HoT shipped. And they all just happened to L2P right after Anet looked into the issue and made a fix.

You obviously aren’t even trying to understand the issue. Typing is nothing like using the keyboard to play a game. You’ve certainly done both, so you really should know that.

The glider has deployment issues. Anet needs to admit that and make a reasonable fix. A key bind for “jump only” wouldn’t hurt anyone. It wouldn’t change things for people who like it that way it is, and it wouldn’t require an extensive re-work of jumping or gliding mechanics.

re: Just don’t hold your spacebar when you jump and you won’t glide. – Yes, this is absolutely how it should work, 100% of the time, for everyone. But it doesn’t. Jump/glide behavior is inconsistent for some of us.
I have observed at some particular jumps that the glider seems to want to deploy instead of just jumping. At other times, jump/glide works as expected, or fails to work properly, at the same jump. There are numerous factors that figure in: internet connection quality, speed of PC hardware, keyboard quality, etc… Anet could research this(like they did with Australian players’ internet latency-related glider issues), or they could just give us a simple solution like a new key bind for a “jump only” key. I’d prefer the simple, easy to implement solution.
<edit>
And I’ve also noticed that when I’m tired, the glider seems to “misbehave” more. But I realize that’s on me. A “jump only” key would still be a viable solution for that.

Some collections have(/had?) in the tool tip “This item only has value as part of a collection”, others have a vendor sale value. For some reason, these have neither of those attributes. Nor does Cin want them if you take them to him. I have deleted them, and they still show up in the collection screen.

Please don't make DR similar to Lion's Arch

re: Guys… The episode drops in less than 7 days, they aren’t going to change it now lols. – It’s not the destruction we’re concerned about – it’s the rebuild, and how horrible it will/will not be. And that rebuild is far enough out that we may be able to influence what they do,
For instance, I fall into the camp that is terrified that DR could come out looking like the soulless, contemporary theme park lump of concrete, totally devoid of any character or spirit, that rebuilt LA turned out to be.
So please don’t make DR anything like rebuilt LA. We like it the way it is. Looking like it belongs in a fantasy world. Please do not destroy the soul, flavor, and character of Divinity’s Reach. Please do not make it a bland, flavorless, soulless, lump of concrete like rebuilt LA. And please do not make the layout less convenient. It’s good the way it is. Please do not “improve” it like you did LA, making everything spread out, and inconvenient.

Still no quick build switch

re: even APB: Reloaded had one of these from day 1 – Never mind APB: Reloaded, the original Guild Wars games had features for multiple(4) swappable weapons sets and saving, loading, and sharing of builds.( Builds could be saved as plain text files, which could be saved, reloaded, uploaded, downloaded, emailed, backed up, etc…)
It didn’t save your armor configuration, and it wasn’t perfect.(for example you had to have the right weapon and secondary class equipped for the build to load properly) But it was far better than what we have now, which is nothing.
I think that Anet is probably over-complicating this. I wouldn’t mind if it saved/loaded builds and gear separately, for example. Instead of making something super-complicated and all-encompassing, which will never be ready. I’d rather we had a couple of basic, functional utilities to work with. Maybe added with the next expansion.(Instead of some uber-thing that will never be released)

What gathering tools have fastest animation?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Elden Arnaas.4870

Of course the animation length is relevant, otherwise you’re wasting effort micromanaging your gather cycle. Scythes like the Consortium Harvesting “Sickle” have a faster animation. There is at least 1 more scythe in the sickles, but I don’t remember which it is.

And yeah, it was an epic fail for Anet to use a slower sickle animation for the plain tools which are aimed at people who are just interested in convenience and efficiency. That and the fact that they were extremely late in releasing plain set.

Mastery tied to story progress?

re: But the original Personal Story was gated by level too. – It is now, but it wasn’t originally. You used to be able to play it at your own pace. Which (IMO) is far better.

re: imagine if all personal story was not level gated and people could do it all in one day – I don’t have to imagine it. That’s how it originally was. And IMO it was a far better way. People could play at their own pace- fast, slow, or in between. It was the players’ choice. As it should be.

IMO, it really takes away from the flow of the story, when you have to stop and go do something that takes you out of the story(and may have nothing to do with the story) to be able to progress.

Please limit the gating as much as possible. Please let people play at their own pace as much as possible.

Maps loading in gradually/very slow

I have also noticed this. It didn’t start happening until one of the patches on July 26th. I load into some maps with only characters in mid air and a few objects visible. Then things render in as I watch. They’re there, I just can’t see them for a while.

Guild Hall instances constantly closing.

Oddly, I can AFK in a guild hall (alone) and not have problem with this. But if the guild has more than 5 people(or so) in the hall it seems to happen almost constantly.
And the fact that it can (and does) put people in different instances of the map is plainly a bug. It means that there will be more instances of the map open. And the whole point of map closure is to have less instances of the same map open.

Gift of Battle - state of WvW

re: MMOs change, this is something that’s commonly found in their ToS. – Yep. But needless and poorly thought out changes are just that – needless, and poorly thought out. And they’re bad for the game. Resources wasted for no value-ad.

re: You earned some currency that you could have used and didn’t – Yes, because I was given no reasonable warning that the vendor would be abruptly and permanently ripped from the game. And I’m not the only one.

re: Anet didn’t promise or take anything so now you’re just meandering down entitlement avenue calling the change bait and switch – Giving someone an expectation of getting a certain thing in exchange for a certain cost, then abruptly and without fair warning changing what is available sounds like “bait and switch” to me. And I’m sure there’s a more concise term for “placing notification or warning where you’re reasonably sure people it’s meant for won’t see it”, but I don’t know that term. So that’s how I’ll phrase it.

re: now you’re just meandering down entitlement avenue – When someone takes away an opportunity with no proper warning or even giving a reason, I wouldn’t call it “entitlement” to want that opportunity returned.

re: I think the reward track is reasonable amount of effort to ask for absolute, top tier prestige skins. – Absolutely. Going forward it’s a better solution in many ways. (Unless you consider the damage that abruptly dumping in a lot of inexperienced PvE only players will do to WvW) If we had a chance to spend the badges we already have, that reward track would serve to pull a more manageable number of PvE players into WvW. Players that might want to stay and make WvW one of their regular game modes. But making people feel forced to do something is never a good introduction to that thing. Don’t you care about the state of WvW?

re: I don’t remember even remotely implying that I care about what other people do when they’re on the map or why they’re there in the first place – Why don’t you care? Your sig seems to indicate very passionate feelings about WvW. Yet you don’t care why people are there or what they’re doing? You don’t think that a bunch of PvE only players, there only to grind out the GoB track is a bad thing for WvW?

re: I don’t remember calling anyone a “scrub” – You didn’t call us scrubs, I did. Because it’s what I would consider an inexperienced PvE only player, who is just(or primarily) in WvW to grind out the GoB track. Even those of us who are legitimately trying to contribute still aren’t the same as an experienced WvW player, or one that is just invested in WvW. Because we’re not invested in WvW. We’re there for the thing that’s gated behind it, like WvW only players are in PvE. If a player is not invested in PvE, I’d rather they(and other WvW only/preferred players) had WvW alternatives. Just like I want PvE alternatives for PvE only/preferred players.(and for PvP only/preferred players for that matter) People in a game mode should care about that game mode, and want to be there, and enjoy being there.

re: the time taken here to complain about it’s new acquisition method. – Where did I complain about the new acquisition method? I have complained about the abrupt loss of the old acquisition method.(without fair warning, or any reason given)

re: In the same vein, the GoB could have been earned in the time taken here to complain about it’s new acquisition method. – First off I haven’t spent 8 to 10 hours(possibly more) posting in threads about the GoB change. Second, I’m here trying to help out the many PvE only players that this change affected. In the same vein, you could make a thread to try and help the situation of WvW players who want to spend more time in their preferred game mode. Yet you continue to put effort into posting comments on this thread, instead of potentially helping yourself and other WvW players.

re: critique based on fact sans name calling is equivalent to “bashing”? – Implying we are lazy and/or willfully ignorant, and “entitled” = bashing, in my book.

re: concern troll – Are you implying that I don’t care about the state of WvW? While I certainly don’t care as much about WvW or PvP as I do PvE, I am concerned for the state of WvW. It’s one of GW2’s game modes, and contributes to the overall health of the game. And I don’t want unhappy players anywhere in this game. That’s why I want players to be allowed to accomplish their goals in their preferred game mode.

re: In your opinion, they didn’t give you enough of a heads up because it’s a big deal for you. – Insufficient warning is insufficient warning, no matter how much is does/does not matter to me. If you’re genuinely warning people about something, you place that warning where they’re likely to see it. Not where they’re likely not to see it. Once again, I wish I knew a better term for “placing notification or warning where you’re reasonably sure people it’s meant for won’t see it”.
