Best class for PvE Boss Farming?

Soldiers gear is a good suggestion, but you need to learn the bosses and their tactics. There’s a tell-tale animation before the lightning field comes up near the Inquest Golem, for instance. Watch for red circles on the ground and dodge when fighting the Shadow Behemoth, etc…
I’ve done all the World Bosses with a Staf Ele. Learn the Bosses and pay attention, and you should be able make it through without getting downed.

You can’t be “just standing”, you actually have to do something to accomplish those. Once again, the term “Achievements” is a misnomer. These are quotas, or activities.
Terminology and word-play aside, doing only the “easy tier” doesn’t get you any AP. It’s 10 AP for all 3 tiers, or nothing. And as I’ve stated in a previous post, I would change that as well. The tiers would award points for each tier completed, with more difficult tiers awarding more points, and an extra point for completing all 3 tiers.

@ Rauderi – Sorry, that post wasn’t directed specifically at you. Many people have posted that they want things removed form dailes.(and in other threads also) I was just generally refuting that attitude.
Actually, “Double Fractals” is one of my pet peeves, also. I just want options added instead of being removed, so that we all have more choices.

RE: Daily “Achievements” – Some of us seem to be hung up on the term “Achievements”, which in this context is a misnomer. These are “quotas”, or “activities”, but “Quota Points”, or “Activity Points”, doesn’t sound the same as “Achievement Points”. These activities have never been achievements, that’s just a term applied because it sounds better. So try not to get all hung up, and hot-and-bothered over “The A Word”. It’s really just a label, not a definition.
Getting a character to 80 is an achievement. Making an Ascended or Legendary item is an achievement.
So don’t get hung up on that term. It really doesn’t mean much in this context.

The Dailies reward system needs to be more flexible as well. 10 AP for any daily in each of the tiers is not really fair. Neither is the “All or Nothing” aspect. (10AP for 3, or 0 AP for less than 3)
IMO, each tier should individually reward AP in proportion to difficulty, with a bonus for completing all 3 tiers.
“easy” tier – 2 AP
“medium” tier – 3 AP
“difficult” tier – 4 AP
All tiers – 1 additional AP, for a total of 10
But this is all based on having more options in all tiers, categories, game types, etc…
And for anyone saying the reward isn’t proportional enough to the difficulty, you’re also being paid in the fun you’re having doing dailies how you want to.
People who want and enjoy more of a challenge, can have and enjoy more of a challenge. But the rewards only pay out so much.
People who have less time can do less, and still get AP, though they don’t get as much as people who do more. But the superior choice and variety, will help them accomplish more of the dailies, and maximize their reward.
Closing with a reminder, I still need someone to justify to me how less choice and variety in dailies is better.

re: I hate ________, and want it removed – We need more choices, and more variety within those choices, not less. Nothing should be removed, more should be added. We need more options, more variety, more possibilities. The dailies system needs to be more flexible, not less.
I cannot fathom how some people are passionately declaring “I want less choices, and I want everyone else to have less choices too!” What is the huge problem with everyone having more choice and variety in how they have their fun?
If GW2 was a job, I could see the “Take whatever is shoveled out and be grateful for it!” attitude. But jobs pay us money, so there’ no need for them to be fun or enjoyable.(though that is a bonus if you’re so fortunate) Games pay in fun, not money. So a game needs to be fun and enjoyable, or who would play it? Who would stay at something that doesn’t “pay”?
We need a wide variety of choices to accommodate a wide variety of tastes, play styles, game modes, etc… Why would anyone argue for less options, less choices, or less variety?
Can anyone justify that to me?

I personally like the idea, but I think that the problem Anet would have with it is, “It’s not fool-proof enough”. That is, someone might accidentally mark an expensive item (silk scraps, a precursor) as junk and accidentally auto-sell it. Yeah, it would really be their fault, but Anet tends to want things to be very bullet-proof.

I just went there again with another alt. There were definitely farmers there this time. There were large numbers of (un-farmable) rats, greatly outnumbering the still numerous crows. I did the heart as before, killing mainly rats, avoiding killing crows in numbers, or near the farmers. Also rez’d Priory, and comforted sick quaggan. Once again, I got the heart easily in a couple of minutes. No one bothered me , nor did I bother anyone. There was no flaming in map chat.
I think that this has already been stealth-fixed. There are many, many more target mobs, and with a faster spawn rate than when I did this heart with my main. There was no waiting for respawn, though I think the rats may be a little thin for effective maize balm farming at this point. I think all that is needed at this point, is for people to just be respectful of each other.

I think that this may have been fixed already. Previously I remember this heart being fairly tedious because of the low number and spawn rate of the target mobs. I went there with a character that did not have the heart yet. And there were many more (green) rats than crows. They were present in large enough numbers that I was never waiting for respawn. Even though I didn’t see anyone farming, I exterminated rats, only killing crows if they were grouped in or near the rats. I did not kill crows in groups, only if they were fairly isolated and near rats. And even limiting myself in that way, I had the heart in maybe 2 minutes. I bothered no one, and no one bothered me. Crows and rats were present in large numbers(though many more rats than crows) and there were numerous sick quaggan(s?) to comfort. From what I just experienced, this heart is much easier than it was when I did it with my main. And I can’t see anyone having a problem here unless people are deliberately trying to make trouble. I think if you go to do the heart and are respectful you should be okay unless there are troublemakers there who need to be reported. And if you go there to farm, and are respectful, you shouldn’t have a problem either.(Once again, unless there are people just trying to cause trouble, and that’s reportable.)

IMO “Playing airplane” is a good idea, but badly implemented. And the timing was bad, but I think that was an unfortunate coincidence. I really don’t think that avatars acting like a child innocently “playing airplane” is meant to be a reminder of, or a poke at, recent airplane disasters.
With a few fixes, I think “playing airplane” would make a good gem store item, and a much better April Fool’s Day event.
“Playing airplane” is problematic in many ways. Mostly because it’s mandatory/global. Why didn’t they just make it happen in towns, or better yet – email everyone a toy airplane that for 24 hours would let you “play airplane” when equipped? Two additional things would need to be fixed. Instead of being stuck in a “T-pose” constantly, your arms would go up only when running, and out of combat. Also, it would be nice if the flicker was an option for the toy. I think that these three changes would have negated the vast majority of problems that people have with “playing airplane”.
Please make this a gem store item for the people who want it.(I think the gem store item should be permanent, not a 24 hour thing.)
The “Old Time Movie Filter” was well implemented, but many things in this game are color-coded, and can’t be seen properly in this mode. Also, any time you put that much flicker on screen, it’s going to give a percentage of people eyestrain, headaches, or worse problems if they have certain medical issues. The flicker should definitely be optional if this becomes a gem store item.
The constant “T-pose” – this is just indefensible. It’s not how little kids “play airplane”. And if your arms came up only while running (and out of combat) it would resolve many busted combat animations, obscured PvP tells, awkward gathering animations, etc… It would probably greatly cut down on “crucifix pose” accusations. Because everyone wouldn’t be standing around, creepily stuck in that pose, which resembles but is not a crucifix pose. And I think that if it more closely resembled an actual kid “playing airplane”, it wouldn’t remind people so much of recent airplane crashes.
The death music was fun. I though it was very reminiscent of the time period that they were trying to evoke.
Once again, I think that this would be a great gem store item, especially with a few fixes.

[Suggestion] Inspect player skins

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Elden Arnaas.4870

Elden Arnaas.4870

IMO, I think this would be a better way to start a conversation with the person displaying skins that you’re interested in. It would get the “stupid questions”(what skin is that, what dyes) out of the way and let you get to the more interesting parts of the conversation – “How did you earn that skin?”, “Why did you use _ dye, and did you think of using ______ dye instead?”
If the other person is willing, and if there is time, etc… They can then answer more informed questions, getting to the interesting part of the conversation more quickly. And if not, then they can just say something like “I’m sorry, but I need to go meet my guild mates right now. Can you please just inspect them? Maybe we can discuss it later if you like.”
It also works better if the person wanting the skin/dye information has little time. they can just inspect, take down the info, and move on to what they need to be doing.
So I think that skin/dye inspection has advantages that would be worthwhile. Providing it just gives skin and dye (cosmetic) info only, and no gameplay-relevant info.

As a member of a small, poor guild I’m wondering if someone from Anet might please give us some idea how much and what currency it will cost to purchase a basic guild hall, and what upgrades might cost. It would be very nice to be able to prepare ahead of time, instead of finding out the day HoT is released. It will probably take us quite a while to earn what we need to make the purchase.
Or it may be that guild halls and upgrades are earned by completing parts of the story or doing achievements, etc… This would be nice to know so we don’t waste time trying to earn all the extra influence & commendations, etc… which would not be necessary.
So could we please get some Anet feedback on what it takes to establish and upgrade a guild hall in Hot?

Waypoint alternatives: Discussion

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Elden Arnaas.4870

Elden Arnaas.4870

I despise the idea of less way points. In fact I would change the way point system by increasing the way points per map by 2 to 3X.(10 to 15X for Dry Top and Silverwastes) If you’re not in sight of at least 1 way point at all times, IMO the map has too few of them. For people who want to RP, or feel that way points impact “immersion” there would be a check box for the option “Remove way points from my view and make them unusable for me.”
Way points would never be contested.(that defeats their purpose) Instead they would be surrounded by a safe zone, where hostiles cannot enter and you can neither attack or be attacked.
If you get 100% completion for a map, you’d get a discount on your way point cost for way points in that map.(I’d prefer free, but Anet would never go for that.)
And this game was never designed with mounts in mind. As it is, they have to cull minis when map population gets too high. How immersion breaking would it be to have characters floating along, riding mounts that are invisible? And you wouldn’t even be able to see bank stations or other game features in places where players congregate.(unless mounts were auto-stowed in cities and outposts)
<edit>
The “Tag a way point to teleport” idea is interesting, but we’d need far more way points for that to be viable.

All people have to do is make sure squad chat is checked, and rt-click to join your squad. There still may be people who won’t or don’t want to join a squad, though.(Even though squads are the solution to this problem. Some people just aren’t aware, or won’t do it.)

I think that Anet may be deliberately over crowding maps and events to research ways to make event scaling work better. This makes it more legitimate,(if that’s really what they’re doing) but what it does to starter areas is still very negative. Especially to new players. I think that the only players getting starter areas assigned for their Daily Events “Quota”, should be people who are level-appropriate for stater areas.

Listenbird, I really like your ideas in: One more try on improving the daily tasks, PvE only. But there are a few things that I disagree with, all issues of over-specificity. It seems like you’ve tried to work within Anet’s framework as much as possible, and that may be why those were included the way they were.

Map specific daily events – Yes, this is one item in a category, but it could still send hordes of high level players into a starter area. Probably less than when it was the only choice. But if a starter area comes up in the rotation, that may be widely chosen as it’s (perceived as) the path of least resistance. The events daily needs to not be map specific.

Specific Fractal – Someone has previously posted that this will send totally, or relatively inexperienced players into fractals of a higher difficulty than they should be attempting, instead of easing them into the lower level fractals where it would be more appropriate for them to ask questions, and actually be taught how to properly do fractals. So I can’t get behind this choice, either. Make this any fractal, and this option would be much better. People can choose whatever fractal they want, and everyone is happier.

Specific World Boss – I think that I know why Anet did this. They may want to use this as a gauge to see which World Bosses need to be reworked, because they just aren’t popular. But then why has it been Frozen Maw (one of the most over-populated WB events) so often? And you still have to factor in low level players that need an alternate choice when the WB that comes up is in a higher level area. So I have to disagree with this choice as well. If Anet wants to research what WB’s need to be improved, why are they spending so much time looking at popular ones, not sending people to the more complained about ones?(like the Shatterer, for instance)
An overly specific World Boss choice can also lead to scheduling conflicts. I just can’t get behind an overly-specific choice for World Boss.

Overall though, I like your latest rework. I like the the way you have them nicely grouped in categories, though Anet might find that level of hierarchy more difficult that what they would like to implement.

Thank you for putting in the time and effort(once again) to offer up a clear, logical solution. It’s obvious you care about GW2, and it is admirable of you work up clear, well organized posts which offer viable alternatives.

One thing it took me an embarrassingly long time to figure out, is that any of your characters can go into any of the home instances. You don’t need a character of that race, or even to have a character of that race. What’s wrong with the old ones, I didn’t ask for something easier than the old ones. Some of the new ones aren’t so bad, but they’d be better if they weren’t so specific and we had more total choices. I don’t see why some of you have such a need to make this difficult. It’s very simple: more choices, less specificity, for everyone. Simplicity in itself and everyone benefits. How is that so hard to comprehend?
