re: They are only upgrading the Squad system, which we already understand doesn’t effect PVE one bit. – No, this is a *mis*understanding, Some people are either unwilling or unable to comprehend. But can you at least understand that this enhanced functionality will only apply to Commander Tags, not Mentor Tags? So then there will be even more difference.

re: What’s the difference between a Red commander tag or a mentor tag pointing out a stupid stack points in Teq? – There’s a ton of difference. Which (once again) some people seem unable or unwilling to comprehend. Probably because they just bought a Commander Tag as a vanity tag. So for people who bought Commander Tags as vanity tags, there is no practical difference. But they still paid for it, and got even more than what they thought they were getting. The fact that they haven’t used the extra functionality is no one’s fault but their own.
I suspect that in the new PvE content, Commander Tags will be greatly beneficial when there’s a high level of organization required, and chat suppression sets in. It may be that players will finally benfit from forming squads in PvE. But people who just wanted a vanity tag paid for much more than they’re actually using. Once again, they paid that cost of their own free will. For something that they were using in a way other than what was intended.
If you buy a car just to use the AC to stay cool sitting in your front yard during the Summer, don’t be angry when your neighbor sits in his front yard being cooled by a $20 box fan. You bought the car for the wrong reason.

re: Want the chat title get the required mastery. – The chat title is Mentor, which (in this context) means “I’m actively looking to help other players.” not “Hey I’m a rock star”. What prestige is there in having [Mentor] before your name in chat? Especially if you aren’t actually mentoring? What prestige would there be in having [Commander] before your name in chat? Especially if you aren’t actually commanding? All it tells people is you either have first level Pact Mastery, or that you at some point had 100 or 300 gold.
Neither tag is that hard to get. By themselves they don’t mean anything. It’s what you do with them.

re: They should have never made it a visible cheap commander tag – It’s not a Commander Tag. If you don’t know the difference, then there’s your problem. Just actually reading this thread would inform you how different they are. Never mind, y’know actually leaning how to use one.

Bottom line:
If all you want is “bling that lets you be seen from space” – Mentor tag is easier to get. (And some people think it’s flashier, cooler, etc..) But if all you want is a vanity tag, that isn’t what these are for.
They should just make a free, blockable vanity tag for all the fools that want them. That would take care of a lot of the Mentor Tag related complaining, IMO.

re: like it or not, bragging rights do exist. There is no justified reason to give the FREE tag better design(bigger scale, nicer tag, chat title) – I don’t care what it looks like. In fact, I think that the overhead tag looks kindof goofy, and I thought “Great, idiots won’t tag up with it just ‘cuz it’s cool looking bling”. As far as Mentor map tag looking cooler, better, etc… than the Commander map tag – ?? It’s maybe a little larger, and it’s only available in red.(Bling wearers can’t color coordinate or accessorize)

re: suppression – Well, even if you’re careful to vary your wording, suppression will still trigger at a certain threshold of map/say chats during a certain span of time. Suppression while commanding/organizing is absolutely a thing. If you haven’t seen it yet, it just means that you haven’t seen it yet. Squad chat would remedy this.(If you could get PvE players to join squads.) Which is why I brought up suppression when you said “There is practically no use in squad chat in pve”

+1 on the Mentor Abuse function for reporting. New players may actually mistake Mentor Tagged players for GM’s, and be more likely to believe anything they say. (however improbable)

re: “They’re like a free Commander Tag, it isn’t fair.”, etc… – If all you want is bling that lets you be seen from space, then yes they serve the same function. But neither of these are really intended to be a vanity tag. And they are absolutely not the same at all.
The Mentor tag puts an icon over the player’s head, and an icon visible on the map for all players to see. And it adds a [Mentor] tag before your name in chat. And that’s all it does. The intent is for it to show players “Here is someone who is willing to help you. Someone who is knowledgeable and trustworthy.”(Though like someone showing a Commander Tag, there is no guarantee they are actually competent or trustworthy.) The Mentor Tag does not give a special chat channel, the ability to form a squad, special map markers, visible map drawing or ping, etc… All it gives you is an overhead tag, a map tag, and a chat tag.
And you don’t need a Commander Tag to command a group, or a Mentor Tag to mentor new players. If you know what you’re doing, you can do both those things without a tag. It’s a nice aid, but not necessary. If you don’t know what you’re doing, neither of those things will give you any ability – they’ll just be bling that lets you be seen from space.
I bought a commander tag at the 100 gold + 250 Badges of Honor price, and I don’t regret it. I use it pretty much exclusively for organizing PvE events and Champ zergs.(I only really play PvE.) I use the Mentor Tag when I’m helping new players. Each has their own use. Would I still have purchased a Commander Tag if I knew that Mentor Tags were coming? I think so. Do I feel ripped off? Not really.

Without a doubt, people should learn how to share, and how to at least be civil to one another.(If not polite, or even kind to one another.)
But why do ambients even count towards the weapon master achievements? Getting one of those ought to mean that you actually fought enemies with that particular weapon. How is counting ambient “kills” and different than just using an attack that will go off without even having to have anything targeted?
They need to make ambients count for different achievements, the “I pressed 1 on dagger/hammer/sword/etc… 5000 times” achievement. And those achievements should not give any title or AP.
Making ambients not count towards weapon master achievements would make them actually mean something, and it would help resolve this issue as well.
<edit>
You know, this whole thing is really stupid. Anet makes their own problems by creating things like the “ambient killer” daily(thankfully retired) and letting ambient creatures count towards weapon master achievements. And creating an item that makes ambient kills profitable.
Even so, a little common sense and courtesy on the part of players could prevent a lot of conflict in these situations.

They ought to have chests accessible at a certain point in time, like in Dry Top. So at the end of the event chain there’s a break, when people can farm chests for a certain amount of time. Then chests vanish and the event sequence starts up again. So each map is a 100% event map part of the time, and a 100% farm map part of the time. Then there would be no mix, and no need to choose. You do what the map has available at that time.(or hop to another map)

I think that the filtering for in-game email should be more lenient for mail between members of a party who are on each other’s friends list.

Also, a personal storage guild with a small guild storage is not terribly costly. It would require a significant effort to make, but it would also pay off in convenience. People can be added to the guild and given access as needed. Players you game with on a regular basis could jut be kept in the guild.

Neither of these offer much help for a PUG situation, though.

re: With many developers involved in multiple projects, it’s helpful for them to have a main forum to check – I have to respectfully disagree. With many developers involved in multiple projects, I think it would be far easier to look through fewer, better categorized threads/posts in the specific forums that are relevant to the projects that they are working on. And as you pointed out, there are forum specialists for each forum. The forum specialists are there to gather and forward ideas from their forum that they consider significant/relevant.
My point is, I think we would have less forum clutter if dev responses were better documented and more available/accessible; and if the forums were more specific.
The players would be better informed, and the devs and forum specialists would have better access to posts which are relevant to their specific focus.

I think it would be beneficial to put back the Suggestions forum with stickied threads for:
1) things that are already being worked on
2) things that are being considered
3) things that are not being considered
4) things that are simply not feasible to ever be included in GW2.
(along with some explanation as to why)
I think this would cut down on some of the redundant threads asking for the same things over and over and over…
It would also give people an official source for information on how these things which will be included are coming along, when we might see them in-game, etc… As well as why the things that they want cannot be added to GW2.
Especially with the forum search being busted,(and not feasible to fix) I think that this would be helpful. I know that there would still be people who will post redundant things over and over without even glancing at the stickies. But those threads could be ended with a link to the relevant sticky, or merged if they provide new/relevant info.

GW2 is not designed for mounts. The game already culls minis in areas with a high population. So would you rather look stupid riding an invisible mount, or be dropped in the dirt if the thing actually goes away?
Also, they would add to visual clutter in areas where players congregate. You wouldn’t even be able to see bank tellers or other vendors, for the idiots who refuse to put away their mounts in cities or outposts.

I don’t think that Polymock will translate well to GW2. The combat is too different from GW1.
Polymock is a 1v1 match against an NPC, with each of you starting with three pieces.(transforms) The point is to choose your three pieces carefully, and to know how to best leverage each of your piece’s skills and abilities against those of your opponent’s pieces. The first side to have all three of their pieces defeated loses. IMO, Polymock would have to be changed significantly to be brought into GW2. It just wouldn’t be the same thing anymore.

Save My Build

Elden Arnaas.4870

They’ve probably known for quite a while they were going to make major changes to the trait/skill system, and didn’t want to make a build template saving utility until after those changes were implemented. That would be a lot of work to have to re-do if there was a major change to traits and skills. So hopefully they’ll start production on this soon after they get everything straightened out from the new changes.

re: what does each player storing all this additional info do to the servers? – In GW1 saved builds were stored locally in plain text files. You could copy them, email them, upload them to web sites, etc… just like a regular text file. They could also be copied into chat. So no server overhead with that method. Hopefully Anet will do something this simple and practical with the new system.

re: would seem like a relatively simple concept to implement into the current system and probably would have a one or two week development cycle. – So you’re thinking that the cure for cancer is maybe a year or so off? Seriously, this will be a lot of work. I hope they’re setting up to start work on it.(Or already are working on it)

Probably there will be alliances of small guilds. But that would be an inconvenience. We had a guild hall in GW1, why would they make guild halls something exclusive to larger groups? What purpose does that serve, excluding (what Anet may consider) very small guilds?
