Today I got 10 different PMs from gold sellers, in a 1/2 hour period. All from the same website, all with relatively ‘normal’ names. Blocked and reported them all, but I had to turn off my IM window it got so annoying.

I had given up on doing the tramp chain in FGS. With a zerg of 30+ people I wasn’t getting credit for any hits, because the beasties were going down so fast. It wasn’t worth the effort of running around.

I did notice that was a bit different today, especially with the Icebrood troika. It actually took longer than 30 seconds to kill each one, so you were guaranteed getting a hit on them.

You can’t get skins for pieces of cultural armor that you didn’t save, either. It makes sense with regular armor, but I was kinda hoping that cultural armor skins would show up in your wardrobe, since you have a ‘proof of purchace’ for them in the Acheivements.

Oh, and throw in that these ‘tonics’ only last for 15 minutes, so you keep having to go back into your inventory and reactivating them if you’re hanging out for ‘too long’. FOO!

Really REALLY not liking the tonic thing. Now, instead of wearing my GW2 shirt with the floofy skirt in town, I’m wearing generic brown booty-skort things that I can’t dye, a thigh holster, and my weapons. My Common Clothing is black and red, not my usual purples and blues.

And now they take up inventory space, so instead of being able to just toggle town clothes with H when I get into town, I’ll have to go to a bank, pull them into inventory, click them, then go thought that in reverse to go back out into the fray

Add in the lack of mix and match for outfits, and the set up for non-armor wear now is downright miserable.

Megaservers and RP

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Eleri Tezhme.3048

I think the idea of adding a toggleable RP flag to each character is a wonderful solution to the issue. It can be added as a metric to the megaserver sorting percentages, boosting the chance of being on a map with other RPers, and it allows RPers to locate others, without having to be tied to a specific RP Guild. Adding a RP chat option would help with dealing with the people who seem to be alergic to RP, and go batty anytime it happens near them.

Having a way of flagging your character as being actively roleplaying would mean more spontanious RP sessions, because other players would know it was ‘safe’ to walk up to you and start talking in character. Sure, you’d get trolls, but those happen now, and Happiness is the Block Command.

I think the megaserver could be good for RP, because it’ll widen the range of people you’re going to come in contact with, meaning more chances for RP that you might not get if you’re always only bumping into the same RP from your world or your guild.

Personal Story in LA

in Battle for Lion’s Arch - Aftermath

Posted by: Eleri Tezhme.3048

Eleri Tezhme.3048

I decided since I was done rescuing citizens(1) that I’d run one of my lower characters through their personal story.

And then I got to the Destiny’s Edge and Order meetings in Lion’s Arch.

I couldn’t help busting up laughing. There we are, in the middle of fire and destruction… and there’s the kids playing, and the Ogden’s Hammer guy talking with another Norn, and other citizens just standing around talking. It was just so silly looking.

I know there would have been all sorts of technical wonkyness to try and move those scenes to somewhere else, but wow.

(1) I think there was a serious lost opprotunity here, to have Sub-director Blingg calling out “CITIZENS! We must rescue the CITIZENS!”

I have 34 Heirlooms, but my acheivement count is stuck at 16.

I thought it might be that it was only counting ones actually dug from the rubble, and that I’d mis-counted how many of those I’d rummaged through- but going into LA this evening, I kept track. After hitting 6 rubble piles, and getting a Heirloom from each, my acheivement count was still at 16.

Eleri Tezhme.3048

Actually, a solo player can contribute more to the success of the map than anyone in a zerg. There are LOTS of city dwellers that need to be “motivated” to run for the gates. One person covering the larger of these clusters (like where the Ogre recue spawns) can rescue 30-40 people all by themselves. That’s way more than the zerglings accomplish when you divide up their rescue credit.

Well that does make it more interesting to be honest. I think guerilla type warfare is a nice change from the zerging.

That’s what I’ve been doing. I also noticed that reviving dead citizens/soldiers/etc counts as a rescue. Reviving people is easier in a small group of players, because there’s usualy a cluster of baddies around, and if you hover in one place for too long, the lasers come to get you. But it is completely possible for this event to be un-zerged.

Enough with the zergs already...

in Battle for Lion’s Arch - Aftermath

Posted by: Eleri Tezhme.3048

Eleri Tezhme.3048

Zergs don’t have to happen, they don’t need to happen, if people make the effort to do something different. If this is a zergfest, it is because the players aren’t thinking outside the zergfest box.

The first run in the new LA I was a part of, (in an overflow, mind you) immediately after the patch, there was no tidal wave zerg of people, running mindlessly around. There were several commanders who each focused on a quadrant of LA, and people joined them there. Even with the miasma being already half full, we saved almost 900 citizens, and got most of the rewards. We did awesome, without a major zerg in sight.

Each time since then, I’ve seen nothing but Wall O Players zerging, less than 400 citizens rescued every time, and most of the events failing, because the zerg is off doing something else.

Don’t want it to be a zergfest? Stop zerging all over the map. Actively resist just being a zerg. Split into smaller groups and kill, kill, kill. Rescue more people, because that gets everyone more and snazzier rewards.

Is there any lore in this patch?

One thing that might be important is the force feild surrounding the Maeva’s house on the beach. Her place is completely intact, and it resists all of Scarlet’s weapons. It’d be interesting to see if that feild has been generated automatically, or if she’s activated it, and if it could be made bigger.

WvW Non-combatant Status

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Eleri Tezhme.3048

Eleri Tezhme.3048

I am a casual WvWer. I like going in, wandering around with the zerg for a while, occasionally getting to do something epic or sneaky. Is fun, and I’m not anti-WvW at all.

But lately I’ve been in WvW for map completion, and it is driving me absolutely bonkers. Checking 2-3 times a day to see if any POIs or such are close to my colour, dying repeatedly on my way to something I need, getting bulldozed by a zerg as I’m passing through… etc, etc, etc </Yul Brynner>

Maps that should have taken me the work of an afternoon to clear, I’ve been poking at for weeks. It has become a frustraing chore, instead of a fun part of running around an area.

So it got me thinking that it could be useful for a player to have access to something that takes them out of combat status.

It would have to come with checks and balances, so it couldn’t be abused too badly (people will always find a way to exploit things somehow)- but things like not being able to attack, or making enemy players invisible so you couldn’t use it for spying, and having a time limit and/or a cool down, so you couldn’t just flip back and forth. Maybe make it something you have to toggle in the WvW screen, before you gate through, and it won’t turn off until you leave.

Just something to make map completion less drama in the WvW areas. shrug

However, I have 8 characters, and all but 2 of them are level 80 (and only one of those has gone into the Pact storyline), because I always hve them eating something. (it’s a good thing we do lots of running, or I’d have very round characters) A quick and easy 10-15% XP boost readily at hand is a very useful thing.

I managed to get a freind into GW2, someone who had not MMOd before. They were enjoying the gameplay up until they ran into the Champ zerg, which had people yelling at him for killing a champ ‘out of order’, making rude remarks to new person questions, and generally acting like entitled brats.

This is absolutely not an “honest first impression”. If he’d been in in any other starting zone, he would have encountered generally helpful people, a range of dynamic events, and champion enemies that would take effort to kill, and could be killed without being harassed by other players. If he’d been in any other zone period, other than FGS, he could have been playing without being a target for other players.

A bunch of high level players dominating and dictating gameplay in a start zone, no matter how jaded those high level players may be about gameplay elsewhere, is just rude, full stop.

Another update where the Chefs of Tyria get left behind. It really does bum me out, because of all the crafting diciplines, Chef is the only one I find compelling.

In all the other crafts, your materials are very locked into their level, discovery is linear and predicatable, and you have a fixed number of end results at each level. Oooh look, more dowel rods, more filigree.

Cooking is much more dynamic- ingredients can be useful at any level, discovery is much more experimental (lots more "oooh, what happens if I put this and that together?), and you end up with hundreds of results.

It’d be kinda silly to expect something like Ascended Omnomberry Cake, but it would be nice if there were new ingredients to be harvested, and new recipies to be discovered, so us Chefs weren’t stuck at 400 while other crafts got all the shiny new.

I did wonder, though, why people weren’t champ farming the cave in Mount Maelstrom.

I think what people are missing is that the ‘whining’ isn’t about not getting an achievment, or it not being ‘easy’ to get. As far as I can tell from my reading no one has done a whiny “Is tooo haaaarddd” post.

What is being said, is that this particular achivement lends itself especially well to groups of players actively and deliberately being…unpleasant… to the players trying to reach the objective.

Having a difficult objective is one thing, everyone groks that sometimes getting the goodies will be hard. But having an objective where attempting to reach it is going to make you a target for large groups of people who’ve decided that being snots about keeping you out is the way to go**… that just sucks rocks through a twisty straw, and it would be Very Nice if ANet kept that in mind the next time they put a general achivement in a PvP or WvW area.

**Edited to add: With the well made point above, that while keeping somone from a goal is part of the point of WwV, there’s no actual WvW benefit to this particular area.

Eleri Tezhme.3048

I’ve been…umm… hoarding karma jugs and such, mostly because I couldn’t think of what to do with them. In my bank, I had:

2 Sips
15 Drops
100 Jugs
1 Keg
4 Gift Boxes
1 Refugee Drawing
2 Thank you letters

Based on that, I figured I had 486,000 karma, before boosts.

I used a Karma Booster for 50%, and a Kralkachocolate Bar for 5%, That should have given me roughly 753,300 in Karma, added to the 5986 I had, for right around 759K.

But, as I Clicked All The Things, the numbers over my head were showing no boosting, and my final Karma total was 491,986, so only the original amount planned before the boosts.

What happened to the other 267,300? Did I really screw something up?

Not really, it doesn’t have the same chest as the others (From the Wiki)
Boss chests provide up to 5 rewards of various quality. An example would be the Dragon Chest after the Shatterer and Tequatl the Sunless events. These contain one universal upgrade, jewels, and equipment.
