Probably there was someplace -not big- safe to take refuge in. The lighthouse priest might have survived too. According to the dialogue of her daughter at least, but she just might be delusionally hopeful.

Every time I get into a big fight I freeze or have 1-2 MINUTES delays, and/or disconnect. My pings are below 200 and my internet is perfectly fine. Graphics set on low and still the same. This has been happening just recently after patch, before that I was completely fine with 150 zergs. Now I can’t even play. For 7 hours I’ve ben trying to do this and I can’t even have one win. I can’t progress the story. I can’t do ANYTHING.

Sorry I sound kitten kittened, but I AM and by all rights.

A much more exciting trailer would’ve been, as others say, a motivational speech by some iconic characters. Everyone rushing in and fight scenes. Perhaps even a little teaser of a loud noise (the drill breaching finally through the last layer of ground, for example) while making a camera panel of it, and ending it there.

This trailer was plainly boring, unattractive and disjointed from what it should be. The “creepy” distorted voices are getting really old and seem to be aimed towards kids.

I think they were aiming for a suspense, tense-vibe, calm before the storm trailer. But failed to deliver such.

Here’s hoping it’s not what the actual update will end up like.

You seem to play games to be important and the center of attention. If you can’t tolerate following a story without taking all the glory, then this game is simply not for you.

I play games to take down warlords, keep balance, kill evil clowns, and save the world, even multiple realities at once from certain destruction by some dark force. I like doing things you can’t normally do in reality unless you suffer from schizophrenia. I don’t play a game to be a forgotten cog in a machine.

This game IS for me…., for 7/8th of the personal story (have you played that, or are you simply ignoring that to try to make your point?), then suddenly the entire story changes focus and the players are pretty much forgotten. I have hopes that eventually, players will take somewhat of a focus again instead of playing second fiddle to NPC’s, that don’t do anything outside of background actions you only hear about, needless exposition, and short stories posted online.

Have YOU played the rest of the game? It gives us credit all the time for what is done. We call the shots in a lot of things. People celebrate us. Even now on the living story, we’re flattered with recognition everywhere.

A wide range of players just simply can’t tolerate sharing the glory and recognition with others. No, they must be THE one and only.

Besides, it’s an MMO, you can’t expect the experience you would get from a single-player game that it’s focused on the main character.

Living World vs Lore

in Lore

Posted by: Eluveitie.1290

Eluveitie.1290

The difference lies within the execution. Zhaitan didn’t send all of its forces to Lion’s Arch in a single, fast and coordinated assault. It didn’t use toxic substances that would effectively make everyone flee, die or keep everyone else busy trying to save others, on top of all her forces wrecking the place and fighting us off. Nor did he exploit the weaknesses the city had (air attacks).

Had only the alliances turn up and attack, we probably would be fighting them off and taking the city back somewhat easily. But the misma, according to the reports, have killed hundreds of Lionguards and citizens, and slowly killing those who barely survived while making it virtually impossible to fight for long periods of time against the stationed forces there.

The Ship’s Council not making any preparations does seem… stupid and badly explained. “Lol wut? Attack us AGAIN with airships we’ve long known she has, after knowing she found something she wants in here, having clear evidence of her intentions and knowing months ago she intended to infiltrate us to weaken our defenses? You’re talkin’ crazy, darlin.”

I hope there’s some explanation regarding this on the last update, but I’m not getting my hopes up on that.

You mean the ship that Kiel stole from us players after we went through all that hard work fighting through the Aetherblade Retreat while she just watched us, doing nothing?

This logic is getting old and bothersome to read.

We’re not the protagonists in Tyria. We’ve certain degree of importance and recognition, but that’s about it.

I’m going to quote another game here, that pretty much sums up who we are in Tyria:

“A good roadie knows his whole job is to make someone else look good. Keep someone else safe. Help someone else do what they were put here to do.

A good roadie stays out of the spot light. If he’s doing his job right you don’t even know he’s there. Once in awhile he might step on stage just to fix a problem, to set something right. But then before you even realize he was there, or what he did, he’s gone."

I proposed this back then when Plagiarised (I think he’s the one doing the project of recording all cities dialogues) but never got a response. Anyhow, I’m currently using my alt as a lorehound, since I pretty much rushed my main through the world in one month and missed a lot. Sadly, I’m done with Krytan and Maguuman zones (except Mount Maelstrom), but as soon as I can get my hands on it, I’m going to start clearing the Shiverpeaks and Ascalonian zones. I could record all of this to help out. I tend to stand by NPC’s up to 20 minutes or what’s needed to get all the idle dialogues and such, plus doing all events, hearts, etc.

Just let me know so I get a program to record it.

P.S. Anyone has a record of dungeon dialogues? If not, I was planning to do that too and could organize ourselves with the guild to do it.

Except for LA being a site of annual Underworld (Mad Realm) opening LA is as Thalador say. But the barrier between Tyria and Mists is weakest in LA, not anywhere elsde. Mad King comes to LA, Wintersday thing was happening in LA, and so on.

It makes sense that it’s a central ley line intersection actually, as testified by M.K. Thorn, tons of demons, all wintersdays in GW1 etc.

So yeah, of all of Tyria maybe Deslation, Door of Komalie and maybe Raisu Palace can possibly come close seconds to Lions Arch when it comes to otherwordly incursions and phenomena, I don’t think any place can quite compete though.

Nope. Nope. Aaaand nope.

First things first: where on Tyria are you getting that where there’s significant otherworldly activity there’s a huge ley line squirming below? Really now, this ley lne mania is getting fracking irritating: ghostly phenomena? Ley lines! No beer in Hoelbrak? Ley lines? Imperator Smodur having diarrhea? Ley lines! The reason why Queen Jennah is barefoot and Logan is a loser? Ley lines! The Pale Tree’s deviant attraction to tablets? Ley lines!! No outhouses in LA? Ley lines!!! Gum Drops’ mane (the Mad King’s Noble Steed who’s invisible) is tangled? WHY, LEY LINES, OF COURSE!

My dear friend, LA is not even close to competing for the award of “where the barriers between the Mists and Tyria are the weakest.” Actualy, it has nothing on guys as hardcore as these four. Let me introduce you to them! (I see you’re already acquainted with the Door of Komalie… that’s good). Zwierz, meet

Godlost Swamp, Varajar Fells, Mouth of Torment, Tomb of the Primeval Kings… guys? Meet Zwierz.

I’d say even Grenth’s hidden statue in Lornar’s or the cave where centaurs dump fallen slaves (http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Speaker_of_the_Dead) have weaker barriers than Lion’s Arch. (Although I haven’t got the slightest idea why you listed Raisu Palace in there…)

Again, what does the Mad King’s annual appearance have to do with ley lines? His return for Halloween affects the entirety of Kryta, even provinces that have been long lost to tides, centaurs, or the risen, not just the former capital where he chooses to make his appearance in order to sow the most chaos and fun as well as to reminisce of his “glorious” living days.

And once more, I’m back to being stunned by the implication that “ghostly incursions and phenomena are indicators of strong ley line presence”… Where do you get this from? Because I see absolutely nothing to imply such. It’s like suggesting that where there are strong ocean currents on Earth, there must be dozens of ghost ships sailing above. Or where there’s strong tectonic interactions, there’s radioactivity… because hey! Ley lines! Back on topic: according to your reasoning, the largest ley line should run beneath Ascalon, the Crystal Desert, and the Desolation.

You can list the filthiest open grave in Cursed Shore, or the most run down shack in Kaineng City, it still doesn’t change on the fact that ghostly phenomena have nothing to do with the ley line network. (Also, I see you later on changed your view and declared that it is tied to the cyclical nature of things… so, by your logic, the largest ley line should swirl around the harpy colonies somewhere east of the Blazeridge or Dzalana…? Badum-tish!).

All in all, it will be amazing to see all the Hollywood-brained folks drool over to nonsensical destruction of Lion’s Arch because the writers tried to salvage the Garbage Story with an epic showdown between players and Villain Sue while a cosmopolitan megalopolis comes crashing down around them. I can’t blame them, though. That’s hipster, that’s trendy! Everybody loves a scenic apocalypse!

Oh and the explanation is ingenious: the strongest (cringe) of magical channels runs deep beneath this overgrown shantytown! Why, you ask? Please, man… y’know it!

LEY LINES!

Had a good laugh out of this post. Sums up why I tend to stay away from forums during rest time before patches.

On an off-topic side-note. Anyone has figured out Rytlock’s busy scedule to examine probes? I still can’t find him.

Steam Creatures and Scarlet semi theory

in Lore

Eluveitie.1290

There’s another, more likely than OP, possibility. She’s said to have “left her mark” on various blueprints in the Rata Sum archives – never explained what that “mark” was but one of them may have been the Infinity Ball schematics. And through that, she got the steam creatures eventually.

A recent thought was the possibility that she was being influenced by the future version of the PC – if one were to twist the Grand High Sovereign’s mention of inventing the Steam creatures as “I manipulated others into making them for me, but I designed them” then it’d fit perfectly well. Would make for a more interesting story.

Wasn’t the Grand High Sovereign killed by the PC, though?

She has, since probably the start of her plans, planned to attack/infiltrate Lion’s Arch for an unknown motive we have yet to find about. The probes accour much later than Dragon Bash’s attack, so she must have now two objectives in the city.

Either that or it’s an overlook by the writers, which I doubt so.

If they stay true to their statements of changing the face of Tyria and rocking it to its core, I think it’s entirely pausible they destroy a large part of Lion’s Arch, if not all.

I’m not sure any MMO has done this -attacking and completely destroying the popular hub and safe/comfort zone of players- and with Anet’s history of sticking to building a not so conventional one, it’s possible.

Personally, I’d love to see this kind of content.

I’d like for things like this to be more visible. I had no reason to look for Rytlock in this location. Some things are fine to leave to be found (like talking to the Pale Tree about Scarlet) but I feel like Rytlock’s mission should be more visible. Perhaps throw in a line at the end of the beach instance where Rytlock mentions he’s about to do field work in Bloodtide Coast. Have him first arrive at the meeting point for the three Vigil members taking on the wurm. If he starts his inspection there a lot of players would have noticed it. Make it a dynamic event that we initiate, add some gameplay to it.

It’s fair to expect interested players to talk to the Pale Tree about Scarlet – it seems like an obvious way to find out more about her. What reason do we have to expect Rytlock to be in Bloodtide Coast? You don’t find this content, you either luck into it or someone tells you about it (or you miss it all together). I think things like this should be more visible.

Exactly. There was really no reason to go check him out, but I guess now I’ve to visit each character to find out if they’re up to something or not, like Eir. Always busy with an eternal sculpture.

I’ve been at the probes several times and have yet to see Rytlock. I’m not saying they should say exactly where, what and how to look for it. But a simple “Rytlock has been seen investigating the probes around Bloodtide Coast after the wurms attacks” seems enough.
