When you play with a warrior, as im a lvl 21 warrior that is playing with a lvl 20 guardian friend, how do you usually like them to play? I dont know his potential build, but I know he likes GS/Sword focus. I was gonna go 20/0/30/0/20, and this is gonna be my main so imma probably stick with that (GS / Hammer), but how do you guys usually like your warrior friends to play? Supportive? Control? Damage? A mix, and if so, mix of what?

You: -The only time a thief loses a fight is because he doesn’t know what he’s doing or his utilities are on cooldown and he isn’t wielding daggers or shortbow.
Me: -Play better
-Use your team better
-Dodge.

Dinky is the bestest, but Reeva is a close second.

But seriously, I usually run Dagger and dagger, with shortbow for events. Dagger/Dagger for single target awesomeness.

But I did take on me vs 2/3 pretty easily. Im not saying that thief is unbalenced, just kinda wanted to show my build and have others critsize it.

For 1.
I don’t focus on condition damage, i focus on crits and sustained damage (mostly the latter).
for 2.
I only steal when im fighting warriors or guardians (occasionally thieves too), so i usually dont have my two traits fighting eachother. I might try to use more steal though. And again, I dont focus on Condition damage….. so yeah, I dont really care for that.
Better to have more buffs. Also, did you forget that steal has recharge? WHOA. Buffs cant last forever for my steal! Whats a good way to get away from fights? Oh yea. Dodging. Also swiftness helps. Ohwait…
I do agree with you on that last one though, I will change Con. Defeat

Mah build makes me only die like 2 times, max, per match. I kill a LOT, and i don’t do 100000000000000000000000000000000000000000000k backstab damage. No, i do 5k. Thats it. Thieves can be played without using the backstab build.

Either my warrior build sucked (it did >.>), or thief is just freaking amazing.
I killed a LOT, and only die like 2 times (unless its that one underwater map, then i die more >.>). My only downside to my build is that backstab doesnt do a lot of damage, only like 5k >.<

PvE: D/D, Shortbow. Shortbow for events and groups, Dagger e dagger for single enemys. Traits dont really matter much.
sPvP: D/D, P/P. heres my build (http://www.guildhead.com/skill-calc#mMkzzc0Mz9mk9mk0G0xGzmMaqVc), I killed a lot and rarely die, my dodges become amazing attacks and stuff, and stealing gives me a ton of buffs. I also get fury (+20% crit chance) when enemies are at 50% hp. I basically only use Dagger and dagger XD

My charr engie is called Fargon Ironfist, i only play him with my friend, Charr ranger Vriskus. We learned that (in personal story AWOL) we have the same sire, which means that Vriskus was my big brother. I am basically the very inventive and creative one, a very dreamy charr that is a weird one. He digs sunsets which is kinda weird for charr, and only Vriskus knows he does. He invented his first flamethrower yesterday, which he will show his brother tommorow in a huge burst of fire. He is currently traveling with his brother and just finished traveling the Plains of Ashford. Be tough, and nothing can touch you. Be smart, and you are the best you can be.

Gate of Madness is pretty awesome, though im kinda new so lol i dunno. Everyone says thx when they get revived (to which i reply a np), and they are not hesitant to revive me when they can. Very very great community!

Charr are not feral berserkers (Some are, but the best aren’t), they are militarial and they have many great tactics. Wits on the other hand, I might need to hand that to Logan.

I mean really what’s not to love? I roll with Rifle, ‘nades, Flame thrower and either Elixir Gun or Elixir B for PvE and i can see no situation where i would need anything else. Yes a few skills could be tweaked but this is not because i don’t like how they work, its because they just don’t work! (#2 on FT for example)

You can PvE with just your gun and autoattack. Who cares about PvE?

The flaws are sharply accented in more competitive environments in PvP or WvW.

I care about PvE, many others do too. Who cares about PvP? (joking by the way)

Cog, I think dude is saying that engie will use hammer, and he will use it like this. Like how mesmer uses greatsword as a laser spam gun, why cant we have NORMAL HAMMERS, the weapon, not kit, and use it with these skills and animations showing it as a rocket hammer, but it’s just a hammer weapon.

I tried the flamethrower, and it isn’t as bad as I heard! But it isn’t that good too >.<. I need to stay still for #1 to hit fully, which is kinda boring. But using #2 as an opener, blasting away, and maybe airblasting far away just for fun. Against bosses I’m assuming the wall of fire would be a nice idea for the burns and stuff. #5 is kinda… meh.. against lower class mobs its not so good, but against bosses it must be good sometimes. But if I DO completely trait it, it must be really good thanks guys.

I made this one topic about grenades, and most people said that grenades were epic (i agree), but my main weapon for my build is gonna be flamethrower. Im lvl 16, almost 17, and I cannot wait to get my flamethrower (can someone clarify if I can get flamethrower at lvl 20, and if not what lvl), but I am hearing that flamethrower is really bad…. I hope thats not true, but if this many people are saying it, its kinda disheartening.
So, is flamethrower REALLY bad, pretty bad, good, or great? Discuss!

As always, guardian is a great help with any profession. Also, since they dont have range, you cant steal kills (jk jk)

Staff is the best way to go tbh.
That doesnt mean its not fun tho! The aoe is just so amazing O_O

Everything else is very weak in comparasin.

Warrior is amazing, i use hammer all the time and i never die and i deal a LOT of AoE damage. I dunno about PvP, i dun really care bout it :P

It feels as though hammer is the ONLY way to go. Amazing stuns and AoE, I almost never get downed, and never defeated! Hammer and longbow are definately the way to go, for me at least

Here’s my outlook. (though i doubt anyone cares >.>)
Human- Too boring, but they are indeed losing land too much.
Charr- They and asura are the 2 that are the most likely to take over Tyria. They deserve the asuran respect they have.
Asura- Them and Charr are probably gonna take over. Very smart and if they put their mind to it, and not slack off, take down the charr if they wanted.
Norn- No comment.
Sylvari- Like them, but they are way to naive.

Nobody can catch a Thief if he’s got the right spec. Better get used to it.

Our singet gives us a +25% runspeed increase.

With a only 5 points in Acrobatics we gain Swiftness with every Dodge.

Our Short-Bow allows us to teleport 900 range almost instantly (usable every 4 seconds or so).

I’m sure there are a few other things as well that could be taken into account.

Overall though I’d estimate that Thieves, if they put their mind to it, can travel at almost 150% speed all things considered.

In PvP players see the explosion circles and can easily dodge them. If they know your class well enough they already know the travel time for your grenades. You’ll have to practice leading and expecting maybe 1-2 of your grenades to hit them instead of all three that usually hit a dumb mob.

Yeah, for the most part ’nades are best in PvE, or slow reaction/too many things going on PvPeople.

Stealing and dodging gives a lot of buffs, heal has less then 15 sec recharge, and all inititive skills heal.

I’d avoid turrets honestly.

I’d go for utility goggles/rocket boots/elixir S/elixir R in place.

You have your sources of damage, you need some utility/longevity.

bombs should out damage grenades.
from a blanace stand point bombs have such major down sides they should probably be the hardest hitting weapon kit we have.
You can only place them at your feet, there timed, and give plenty of warning to player to get out of harms way before the blast.

They do though.

Bombs do more damage, if grenades don’t have grenadier.

And grenadier pushing grenades above bombs isn’t a problem, because there is a huge opportunity cost in taking 30 trait points and a grandmaster trait.

Bombs don’t need many traits to be effective, grenades without grenadier do not share that luxury.

Basically grenades are good to use if you just want to go fast and do things a tad easier, but in the long run bombs are better. Seems right, because bombs are much more risky (though i am usually close range with my grenades anyway lololol)

Oh, gw2 guru is bad. Sorry about this guys, they just made me think a lot of engie things were UP, mostly grenades.

Asura don’t fit well because their tech is so advanced and stuff, an Asura engineer looks centuries behind normal asura.

I see MANY MANY MANY people hating on grenades, saying their extremely UP and garbage and yadaayadaayadaa, but im using them and im doing just fine :/
Is it because I have a ranger clanmate and he’s leveling with me? Or are grenades good? I think it’s the latter. Please don’t hate and call me a noob and stuff, just say helpful and on topic things and it will be better.
EDIT: I heard this on GW2 Guru, and many people are telling me that that place is really bad, so all of this is probably wrong >.>

They are currently fighting with the ghosts, is the reason why they arent taking it over. They could really take over the world, but that would kinda ruin the game for non-charrs (Though charr are indeed the best race)

They know there are gods, they just do not worship them. I dont think their Atheist.
