thanks, ill do that
i get a message saying “the game client is unable to gain access to the log-in servers at this time…”.
internet connection is ok, GW2 has firewall privileges and i was able to play couple of hours ago.

Problem is, this is such a mess and over-all poorly done to such a degree that a roll-back or admitting it would never happen.
They should remove any “gates” they have introduced so players can experience everything at will. And if something puzzles them, well… That’s why there’s a “players helping players” forum, and wiki, and tons of useful websites with loads of info.
The whole NPE thing did the absolute opposit of what it was set to achieve. Instead of explaining, you just barred content and game mechanics, making the lack of said mechanics confusing. Imagin someon who heard this game has underwater combat in it. But for them… There isn’t. Until lvl3 (iirc) so then, they take a dive (just kidding, goggles are way too much for a lvl3) into a lake and see they only have 1 skill. What they understand from that is, that there isn’t any underwater combat, just an over-hyped feature used to get them to play. And then they quit. Because the game is stupid. not the player, who may be a total newcomer to mmorpg, but the game.
By thinking that GW2 is the industry’s answer to uni. level calculus class, you made the mistak of treating every new player like a 6 years old. And let me tell you something: it’s not. GW2 wasnt the obtuse and complicated game you thought it was. But it is now.
Sure, there are things you need to get used to and things that are quit different than other mmorpg, but that’s called a learning curve. And that curve could be made easier to get, but not with your gated method. There are things out there called class quests that helps you understand your character mechanics better; and quests that explain skills and so on. Wouldn’t it be better to create a lvl2 quest that you do underwater, like an obsticles course which, at its end would reward the player with an underwater weapon of their choosing + the 5 weapon skills?
I’m sorry, but this NPE feels like something you thought up in ten minutes and implemented after a particularly hard hangover.
You said these players can disable it for themselves, but the real issue is that other party
Don’t get me wrong, it might also encourage a lot of people to try and get better at the game, myself included, but it’s the harassment factor which prevents this function from being included. Maybe if the person who doesn’t want such function would have the option to disable it and that in turn would also disable their data being seen by other party members would solve that issue but then people would probably kick you if they couldn’t see your data in dungeons/fractals because they would be uncomfortable/assume you’re a bad player.
It wouldn’t solve anything. We will just see a “Recount enabled” demand on LFG. The only way for this tool to be useful is only if the player could see their stats and nobody else.
As to the original topic: No. Please don’t bring this poison into the game.
BTW: elitist!=experience player.

My only insight is that the reward should have some correlation to the difficulty of the event. As it stands, I’d rather not participated in this event even when there’s a chance of winning. Too much time consuming and zero room for error. This event should have a guaranteed ascended drop.
This is so idiotic. I wanted to use a pair with a lvl 45 character and got “this item is not available for you now” text box :|
Doesn’t really makes sense to have a heavy class that uses a pet/spirit for combat. Why does it have heavy armour if it’s better at ranged combat?
Only way I see this working if it were to have longbow/rifle based ranged skills, but with long CD on them, to justify that class of armour; enemies will be able to close the distance between shots, then it’d switch to melee weapon with cc skills (like a mace or hammer that roots/traps/kicks/bashes etc.) and then back to ranged.
Stop whining and let people farm for crying out loud. The rewards in this game are already nerfed to the ground. Is it so bad to let people farm the two spots in the game that are farmable? The two people who actually want to complete the event could just as easily move to another server instance rather than troll the farmers.
Also, what Joe said ^^. Where is the toxicity in this case other than a couple people yelling to stop attacking?
i agree, just move to another map.
also commenting here: been getting crashes with error “TCMalloc, bytes=24812048”
same here, with error: TCMalloc, bytes=24812048
Maybe this exists in game and I haven’t noticed, but what about an emote where upon successful resurrecton, the resurrector would shout “on your feet” or something like that
Go to the laurel vendor in LA and purchase a sprockets node for your home instance.
Problem solved.
You do get actual rewards for leveling (gear, boosters, and such) not just “you unlocked harpoon skill2”. It’s not perfect, but you get more incentive to lvl up, and get the locked skills (that’s the reasoning behind it as I see it). I think it misses the point because people would rush to higher and higher levels instead of actually playing the game (read: having fun) and learning their character’s mechanic, because they have so little to experiment with.
(edited by Eric.6109)
Perhaps; but the threshold is just too low. Couple of items and you get this annoying message.
Very strange. Well, they are sorting the bugs and what not, so just wait.
You need to be level 35 to change the skill in slot 9.
lolwat
its ridiculous, the skill is already open
its not all that bad. you get some stuff when you level up, thats something too. besides getting a “skill 5 unlocked” on various weapons, didn’t feel any intervention.
edit: i stand corrected
(edited by Eric.6109)
i can do this on all of my other characters, just the thief has this problem. i have to set utility 8 to the one in 9 (so they switch places) and only then i can change it.
hey,
the wardrobe window shows Norn characters with only half the length of their legs
Combat mounts is hard to implement. Check out what LotRO did (hint: it’s not really that good).
I want mounts because:
- I just want them.
- it seems ridiculous a heavy-armour class can roam Tyria without breaking a sweat.
- helps getting to events when you don’t have the appropriate WP (made me miss Karka Queen last night).
- Some places you need to get to are far away from a WP.
- There are already mounts in game. In the gems store you have the broom and in the world itself you have Pact tanks, submarines and airships.
Build Mawdrey II.
It costs 2000 Bloodstone Dust and once you built it, you can feed it 50-250 bloodstone dust per day in exchange for other loot.
You can also buy a recipe for the toxic nourishments and craft them, that also yields profit.
But… But… I don’t wanna make this item. Is the recipe you’re talking about obtained from dry top? Is it limited by profession?
i already got 3000 (and counting) of it, and its eating my bank space
“Skrit! I’m hit!”
It was apparently a measure to prevent the market from being flooded with exotic salvage, because it’s fairly trivial to farm badges and karma (which is why karma gear also can’t be salvaged). I’m hoping they change that too, but it’s a small hope.
But at least you can dump karma gear in the forge. This also applies to “Order Armour” (like Vigil etc.) that aside from destroying, you can’t do anything with it
No problem. What size should the sample be, in order to be counted as proof? Keep it sensible (as an example, a million isn’t sensible because I wouldn’t have the time nor be willing to do it).
Thanks for clearing that up! The medallions were lvl 67 iirc
I just crafted this back item, and got it to “stage 2”. There’s an upgrade slot there, but everything I tried putting there just turned it red (meaning it could not be upgraded).
I tried various things that were accepted as upgrades by other trinkets I have, nothing seems to work.
I tried major and superior sigils; runes; medallions and the jewel you get by completing PS. Nothing worked. What am I missing here?
I quite like it. I have just finished getting all the jewels for my collection (before I read this) so i am very excited to see what I’ll get
the only aspect of the game i had problems with was sPvP. i tried playing it last night and had no idea what was going or what i needed to do in order to start playing
Items such as:
- Black Lion Salvage Kit
In GW1 we had a special salvage kit that could remove inscriptions and runes from items without destroying them at a 100% chance. It was a game item that costed skill points and materials to craft IN THE GAME. GW2? Gemstore item and it’s a rip off at that.
Still doesn’t take out the fact that ALL salvage kits in the game right now fall short to the returns of a Black Lion Salvage Kit. That isn’t forcing people to play with Black Lion Chests/spend cash on the gemstore?
- Boosters of any kind and the Communal Boost Bonfire
As far as I know there is not a single consumable in the game that grants 50% crafting EXP, 50% karma, 50% magic find, etc. Nothing can be cooked up by chefs, no concoction can be made by artificers, there is no way to make these items in the game nor a consumable that stacks like these items with food and utilities like the boosters can. Putting combat boosters like Strength, Armor, Speed, etc boosters at an advantage over consumables that can be acquired in the game. Once key farming is gone, these advantages should leave the gemstore. Yes, they are advantages even if it’s a 5% strength booster. When the OP spoke of the gemstore digging it’s muddy fingers deep into the game’s reward system, I believe her criteria fits items such as these that give advantages beyond anything that can be acquired in the game, taking away from the potential of the crafting system and it’s benefits.
I say that when food has 15% EXP gain, magic find buffs when buffed with a boon, “Kill Streak-like mechanics” whenever one kills an enemy, etc. The boosters are gemstore items and they give better buffs to those who pay real money for Black Lion Keys. They can be purchased for in-game gold, but who is going to pay OVER 20 GOLD for a single booster?
Strength, speed, etc boosters cannot be bought from the gemstore. They come from Black Lion Chests, so even if one wanted to buy them with gold they’ll still have to gamble it on keys when 100 gems = +13 gold.
- Metabolic primer, Utility primer, and Revive orb
The primers speak for themselves. The revive orb is reminiscent of a craftable consumable in GW1 called the Scroll of Resurrection in which it can revive playable characters in battle at a chance of getting kitten again with revive sickness, 25% HP in GW1 with death penalty still active. Again, the potential of the crafting system is chipped at to make an extra buck on the gemstore.
Buffs and consumables should not be sold on a cash shop. The primers extend the benefits from food and utilities by 12 hours, that itself is not a buff but should be viewed as such when the maximum duration of some consumables in-game is 1 hour per consumption. Could be viewed as a convenience item if it weren’t for the fact that food and utility consumables are used in battle, unlike the harvesting tools which offer a convenience to those who want to harvest, nothing to do with combat, or the salvage-o-matics which offer convenience to those who want to salvage, again, nothing to do with combat. Both of the previous items do not make money back without investing decades of dedicated time into the game, so no big deal. But the primers offer convenience in combat situations and that is a line that should not be crossed, even it takes just as many decades to make the money back from buying them with gold and using them on the most expensive food and utility consumables.
no. just no.
BLTC salvage kits? i have 5 of them, got all from map completion.
Dyes? have you visited a laurel merchant lately? plus – you can get the dyes you want straight from the TP, after they have been identified which means you actually save gold by eliminating the RNG and getting just what you want.
primers? also, got couple of metabolic, all from map completion.
boosters? the same. I’m drowning in WXP, XP, +speed, gathering, karma, magic find and what not boosters. how i got them? you guessed it..
all this again, means the gem store does not have an impact on your play style, or your “rewards” – unless you want it to, or you want the permanent hair style contract handed to you…
One thing I don’t understand is, why A.net try to make it look like a real hard task to back-roll the trait system. At its current stage, what you need is ctrl+z, not a fix. Revert back to the old system and then take the time to change it per fellesan’s idea.
Oh, while we’re on the subject of traits: you should look into editing the description of traits to make them more understandable and consistent. There is a trait for Guradians that puts up a shield bubble while rez’ing another player. When you hover with the mouse over it (not when slotted) it says something very ambiguous about projectiles, and doesn’t make sense at all. Only after you equip it you understand what it does.
You all have fun writing up your ideas. You guys (players, obvs, since Anet can’t be bothered) might try scanning the thread, because a bunch of good stuff is apparently going entirely unnoticed, and I certainly won’t bother with a copy/paste. If they didn’t read it the first time, why should I expect they’ll read it a second time? Fool me once.
Look at it as a vote of confidence. We have a Dev in the thread; he is commenting (if scarcely, and ambiguously). We want these changes, so the effort in helping scan through the ideas shown just may be worth it.
(edited by Eric.6109)
If this is implemented, there should also be a “reset” button added in the dye panel so you could go back to the original color scheme
I believe this may be more in line with what players were hoping for. Also note, many of the tasks are BELOW the level where you will unlock a trait tier – this is intentional. I believe you will see better results if people can have immediate access to the content and use that to fuel growth, rather than being gated by their level for content they should have access to already.
Notice that most of these tasks are vague and open-ended, designed to compliment a “play as you want” style. Traits are gained in progression without having to force too much checklist style exploration. If a trait is not listed here, it’s because I personally consider it to be at least feasible. Others should comment as necessary.

Give that guy a cookie. This will be a great fix for this fiasco.
Sigh
If you’re not happy how unlocking traits works, BUY THEM.
Not a viable option at all. Buying traits is a big strain coin and SP wise. Even just the adept tier will set you back couple of gold. Mutiply that by number of alts you may have and it becomes impossible.
Maybe we should give new players more credit when it comes to learning a new game. After all, we “veterans” managed to learn just fine in two years.
^this. Players are not stupid, and manage to understand who games work. People who play mmorpg expect the game to have a learning curve that is a bit harder than…. Tetris.
You (the Dev that posted) should just make an alt and try playing with it how “you wants”. You’ll be singing a completely different tune after that.
Let’s call a spade a spade: the trait unlocking system sucks. It sucks big time. It is something that should not have been changed to begin with. Games like this revolve around builds, skills and trait. You wanting players “to learn” their class, and “not be overwhelmed” is totally ruined by this system: there is nothing for players to learn, because they don’t even have access to most of their traits. And about being overwhelmed? Try doing some PvP or some challenging PvE content, when all you have is a handful of adept-tier traits. It’s a real fun, I tell ya’.
Being plowed through by people who can actually make build and play like they want is a whole lot more overwhelming than having access to all the traits and learning how to use them on your own.
P.S: player need access to all traits, not just the ones that are relevant to a certain build. I don’t want to play according to what some guy think is best, I wanna make my own build. I’m crazy like that.
(edited by Eric.6109)
Sounds awesome! Nice job, Anet.
If you play with a shield then without a doubt – get ‘The Flameseeker Prophecies’.
Well, yes. Maybe not 100%, but still – I enjoy it very much.
It’s not about the items themselves; it’s about the impact those items have on the overall game experience and the community.
pray, what is the impact on game and community?
But most of items are available in game. So there are some exclusive skins in the gem store. So what? It doesn’t harm the reward system in any way, because no reward from bosses or dungeons is just a skin.
And you can always get stuff from gem store by converting your gold to gems, making everything accessible to everyone.
Seems to me you just want to complain about the gem store for the same of complaining, and because you want everything to just be handed to you.
There are no “rewards” in the store. Just a few items that you may (or may not) want to spend money on. So you can’t get the water ballon fight thingy from loot. Big deal.
btw: it’s 13 gold (iirc) for 100 gems. You want one of the items skins? They are about 600gems. That’s about 80Gold. There are in game items that are more expansive than that.
(edited by Eric.6109)
Maybe, but after mining several nodes I noticed I did not get any jewels at all, while got sprockets. Using a regular pick I usually get 1,2 jewels per 2 nodes but now – nothing. Just sprockets.
Now that you mention it…..hmmm. I just bought another one of these and will be doing some heavy gathering this weekend. I’ll report back on what I find in terms of this possible issue.
Theory disproved:
Not really. I know that you still get jewels, but their drop rate is certainly different with this pick.
tl;dr: gem store is bad because of unconfirmed rumors.
Anyway, there’s nothing inherently wrong with the gem store. Sure, there are some exclusive items, but nothing you can’t get with in-game currency, so this is basically a QQ thread.
What OP doesn’t understand is that one time purchase MMORPG games do not exist, or die very quickly. You wants server maintenance, updates to client, content and what not? These things cost money, and as time progresses the one time purchase fee doesn’t cover up the expenses. It’s either some sort of subscription or something truly horrible like LotRO, where you have to buy almost everything – even if you have VIP account.
The gem store (which you do not have to use at all, or use without even paying money) is a good middle ground.
(edited by Eric.6109)
I doubt it. Such drastic changes wouldn’t fly here, especially since we play a normal version of the game, and know how it really is.
BTW, by reading more into it, the players there aren’t too happy about the game.
I’ve explained to you that the China release is different because a publisher outside of Anet has a big say in the game before they could even release it. In China they don’t care about what Anet wants, they have the ability to prevent the game from release. The publisher could care less about the story, and care more about profit clearly... Just look at how they charge you just to open an unidentified dye, or how they have a subscription/VIP system that you pay for monthly... Look at the pictures since you guys are having a hard time reading...
http://imgur.com/a/k9GA4#7
http://imagizer.imageshack.us/a/img577/2972/0ucs.jpg
Does this sound or look like GW2 you know? No, because its the China version, they are very different. It would be like this if EA bought out Anet... It is very immersion breaking, but the Chinese publisher like EA don’t care about anything but money.
:O
Why would anyone play such a horrible, P2W game? That VIP system is beyond evil. I really cannot understand how people over there agreed to play it.
The more I play, the more this system annoys me.
I just unlocked all adept tiered traits on my warrior. Some were unlocked by their appropriate task but most were bought from the trainer. What made it worse was the amount of coin I lost doing so, and that’s only the low tier. I don’t think getting grandmaster tier is even feasable for me in the near future.
This means that I can’t really play my Warrior, as I cannot use any build whatsoever. This is a huge blow to the “play how you want” concept, because it basically makes it not true.
Also: give us more trait points.
(edited by Eric.6109)
i can understand OP, but this is kind of a more complex issue than what it is portrayed.
the problem is, we try to define a not very traditional mmorpg game using our understanding of traditional mmorpg.
lets start with raids. you basically have these all around Tyria. you have players doing exactly that versus world bosses. and because your level is scaled, it is, in fact, “end-game”.
are we talking about a long grind towards special gear? we have that too.
content barred by level? we have that – to a certain degree – in various areas and dungeons (that are unlocked when you reach a certain level).
but what i think OP means is there is lack of things to do once you reach max level. you can only do story mode+paths+fractals so many times. you can also zerg EotM till your eyes bleed, and go through WvW (which is basically the same, but with more PvP encounters here and there) pretty quickly. but once you have experienced all that there is, and found your niche, you burn through content very quickly.
i think that by not having the tank+healer+dps+CC combo, GW2 put itself in a weird position. on the one hand, you are encouraged to play as you want. sure, there are classes who are better at some rules, but that should not stop you. BUT this idea makes instanced raids (or extra-hard dungeons) a moot point, because the mechanics stay the same, whether it’s a 5man or 25man encounter.
in other games, when you start doing 10-20man dungeons, there is a level of tactics that is not often seen in GW2. sure, you have difficult bosses, and phases, and you need to know/understand what to do; but as you don’t have a defined role, everything is up for grabs. in other games, you have these different roles and you plan your encounters based on the classes you have with you.
there is of course a downside to this, because you will have redundant classes, and if you go for a certain class you will be forced into that class’s primary role if you want to do grouped content.
the other content you have is simply not enough. take dry-top as an example. it is a high level area, but what you do there is basically repeat the things you did couple of minutes before until you have enough geodes/found all the things you need for the fossilised weapons. and then what? i have a level 80 character that i parked there until i had enough to get the weapons i wanted but that’s it. i won’t deny it was fun – and still is, even if to a lower extent, but the fact remains that it is a repeat.
what i think needs to be done is not necessarily add a ton of content for level 80 characters, rather – improve the content that already exists.
make WvW a more strategic gameplay. allow players to build check posts, trenches, traps and what not; introduce fog-of-war, and make scouting rewarding; add a real use to commander instead of just a colourful icon to follow; put more emphasis on team play instead of just joining a zerg. this is really untapped area of the game and i think the dev’s really dropped the ball with it – and it’s a shame. it has a lot, a lot, of potential.
make Orr and Southun more relevant, even that we have moved on to a new enemy. make Orr more alive (no pun intended) to suite its positions as a war zone. allow players to really contribute to the war effort – maybe introduce some siege engines to this area like in WvW (and of course, give some to the other side). put an emphasis on the connection with Fort Trinity as a staging ground by having players actually help securing landing beaches (not just things like the submarines event). this area is supposed to be one huge mess, not a place where you can farm stuff with ease.
take SouthSun and turn it into a huge playground. throw in mini-games, puzzles, treasure hunting, events and what not and even allow low-levels in, at their own peril ( :P ). this place is sadly neglected.
i understand the desire to make the game revolve around the PS and LS, but its simply not enough, and causes other aspects of the game to seem like they were cast aside by the developers.
(edited by Eric.6109)
climb baby climb. I’m just waiting for the day when I can drop $20 and get the rest of the gold I need for my precursor.
You’re gonna have to wait a long time for that. You only lose when converting gems to gold. Last night the rate was about 11G per 100Gems, but the other way ’round was much higher. So still not worth it.
Quaggan back pack???? Shut up and take my money. NOW.
ALSO: two Quaggans held with string (like fuzzy dice) to hang from the rear-view mirror (of a car).
