Yeah Anet, why didn’t you just mail us BiS gear with auto infinite XP on character creation?
Oh wait, maybe because MMORPGs are about leveling and character progression. Go to sPvP if you want everything handed to you.
And you, sir, are included in the 3rd case
- Mike Obrien
Please someone should make a sticky responding to this kind of arguments:
1. There is no grind!
2. There is grind, but not as mush as in “put a random mmoprg name”
3. Do you want to have all top items with zero effort?1!1!1!111
4. You can’t have all you want!
5. Ascended are not mandatory!
6. You can play everything equipping just green stuff…
7. I can solo Lupicus with my whites, L2P noob.
- Mike Obrien
OP, I feel you.
Gw1 player here, and stopped playing, waiting to see what they really want to develop
- Mike Obrien
Far from defending anet on their plot making, I still would disagree with this:
People born and bred to hate each other don’t just give up their prejudices because of a common enemy, that would be logical, there is nothing logical about prejudice.
History proves it happens time to time
And it could also be that they will not simply throw out of a window their prejudices, maybe it’s only a truce between the two sides.I would agree, the axis powers in WW2 showed that it can happen, but they also showed it can’t last, as the axis powers eventually betrayed each other. Which brings up another theory, that such is the case, and we are going to see this alliance follow it’s natural breakdown over the course of the story. But then what part do we even have in the story?
We’ll see all the story from a dolyak point of view, grazing peacefully xD
- Mike Obrien
On numerous occasions I’ve been fighting Thieves (or Mesmers) with a decent stealth uptime and I’ve been swinging my sword around trying to get lucky hits but thinking I’ve done nothing. Suddenly I would have a downed Thief or Mesmer appear at my feet where my attacks had actually landed.
So stealth need a nerf so you can down a thief/mesmer not only on numerous occasion, but always? >.<

Take it easy moral crusaders. Do you mind staying on-topic, please?
It is on topic. Expecting a refund past 20 hours is the limit my morals will allow me to go. This is subjective for different people, but 600 hours? Really? Please tell me you aren’t actually considering doing that?
I think his problem is with the recent changes
He paid for life, but could enjoy “just” 600 hours of the game they sold him, now he feel like this is a different game (and I don’t think he’s the only one, a lot of gw1 players left for the same reason).
Anyway I doubt they will refound you OP, uninstall is the way if you don’t like it anymore, and eventually come back when (and if) things will be to your liking
- Mike Obrien
Yes please, so I can convince myself to uninstall the game xD
- Mike Obrien
op, do easier regions.
a lot of player need a bit of challenging open world not to fall asleep on their keyboard.
rewards are sexier with a bit of challenge.
Then let hardcore players choose to be downscaled more and rewarded a bit more, instead of forcing guys like him to avoid some zones…
- Mike Obrien
I tried to tell players this very fact, i’ve played Korean/Chinese Grinder MMO’s less grindy than Guildwars 2…
But nope everyone tells me GW2 isn’t grindy, everything’s optional…the issue is the option is leave or grind..some optional content that is..
At least in those Asian grinders you can farm knowing that you will get what you want, and it will not take years of forced logging to get what you need..
I’m with you :* (still I would like a game grinding-free, where you can just play different contents and have fun obtaining stuff without follow some sort of list >.>
It should be extremely easy to get all your items and then, if the content is REALLY FUN I think ppl would repeat it for a long time, then new content will be released and so on…)

ANET YOU RUINED THE BEST WEAPON IN THE GAME
THANKS
So if all player can have access to an item, is it ruined? Nice to know
- Mike Obrien
In gw1 I was interested mainly on pve and not a single time I felt underpowered by not having those optional titles/skills. The game never forced me to grind them AND if a random-guy in my party thought those things were mandatory I could always kick-and-replace him with one of my heroes, clearing many things that could lend me to nice skins. In gw2 you can solo a lot of things even without ascened items BUT most of the content is now scaled on exo or less. What about when new content will be scaled on ascended, legendary or an higher tier? (and so on…) This is what I call vertical progression, someting you have to do to not be owned by mobs and to collect cool items. C’mon… here even clearing your PS does not grant you any single max tier weap…
(ps sorry for my english)

I’m putting my characters in standby mode.
My only hope is that, when new asian graphically awesome mmorpgs will be released, grinders will fly over there, freeing devs from pleasing mainly this kind of target, and giving their player base the game which they talked about for years.
Edit: about guild missions, one word: Alliances.

Now (i.e.) sum these differences in a group of five random guys playing dungeons
- Mike Obrien
It was a nice run. I think I’ll take a break, too many lies for now.
Nothing forced me to do anything in Gw 1, never needed a vabbian armor, it was just a skin! A basic and cheap canthan armor was more than enough
(nevertheless I ended up buying a vabbian for my sin, still never farmed for that).
I don’t like carrot-chaesing, nor to play a game that punishes my playstyle.
40 laurels 50 ecto for a single accessory?
Isaiah Cartwright:
These items are mainly earned through guild content, we included them on the laurels vendor to give players the opportunity to earn them if they are not in a guild but they are priced high to encourage players to try and accomplish them via the guild content.
Some people will say that ascended items are not mandatory, but indeed they are, and more of those item will be released, more you’ll need to farm just to be “strong” like hardcore players.
I think people should be rewarded for their ability, not for their “dedication” to the game, or at least not in the way it works for now.
I’m sorry but I can’t accept to be “weaker” than a well-equipped player whose only merit (maybe) is just to have the time to farm like is his life depends on it.
All the 3 Campaigns + GwEN, Heroes Pack, Bonus Mission Pack and so many years of fun, so I can’t believe this title will end like this.
I won’t accept it, so I’ll continue reading the forum looking for “The Turn” that many of us are waiting.
Have fun :*

1. Do you like them because they’re expensive and just few can buy them?
They’re not expensive.
2. Do you like them because they’re more powerfull than some other gears that common folks can equip?
Define “common” as, again, they’re not hard to get.
3. Do you like them because of their design?
Yes.
4. Would you still like them if more people could afford them?
No. They only way I see “more” people affording them is if they gave out full sets at account creation.
Thank you for your response.
- I’m not talking about legendaries or necessarily something that is already present into the game
- Casual players with few hours per day
- Mike Obrien
Due to infraction for expressing myself in a metaphorical way, let’s reopen this thread using more concrete terms ...(forget the ferrari!):
My questions are as follows::
1. Do you like them because they’re expensive and just few can buy them?
2. Do you like them because they’re more powerfull than some other gears that common folks can equip?
3. Do you like them because of their design?
4. Would you still like them if more people could afford them?
I’m trying to understand what forum posters think about their in-game goals.
The direction that this game is taking (devs say that) reflect what their player base wanted, if this is true, why people wanted it?
p.s. I would really like to see in-game surveys, like during beta, and I think it would be really awesome to know even their results (let me dream a bit ), to understand this game, to understand players and to understand people.
p.p.s. I’m not talking about legendaries or necessarily something that is already present into the game, I’m talking about anything a common folk would like to obtain, but he feels like it will be nearly impossible to achieve due too much time required for it.
p.p.p.s. Just trying to sound out why, and in which way, people want to feel awesome
p.p.p.p.s. (xD) I’m sorry for my english
p.p.p.p.p.s. Stay on topic or I will get another infraction ç_ç

All the gear hating people, what do you want ? that we remove all gear from the game ?
Or make it widely accessible, through all the same methods as exotics, at no more than twice the cost/time/effort. That’s for ascended.
Preferably, of course, all the top tier gear would have been accessible more easily than exotics currently (like it was in GW1). Too bad that didn’t happen.Basically, i do not want gear to take the place of content. Instead i want actual content.
Even if I had read it dozens of times, GW1 top tier gear being more accessible than GW2 exotics is something that I don’t know if I should agree with.
If you look at vanilla Prophecies, making tons of money was far from something you achieve naturally. By the time you reached Droknar, you probably had to invest all your funds in order to get the top-tier armor which still came without runes at all (and a Superior Health one wasn’t exactly cheap).
Then you had the weapon issue. ¿How were you supposed to get your top tier weapon? There wasn’t any green weapon rewarded on campaign completion, and both collector and crafted weapons (idk if this last one even existed, but 5 plat would had been a really good chunk of money at that time) were lacking upgrades/bonuses you had to RANDOMLY recycle from other rare items.
In order to get, lets say, a perfect health sword pommel, you needed: a) a rare sword to drop, b) that sword having a pefect health sword pommel and c) getting randmoly the pommel instead of any other upgrade the weapon could had.If you look at latest versions, gearing could seem easier since money was given to you nonstop, but it still had its tricky parts.
Even if buying a raw top-tier armor was really cheap, superior health runes were still pretty expensive and some insignias (which were given to you for free on vanilla, but must to be bought at this point) were more expensive than the armor itself (a shaman ritualist insignia was for a bit more than 4 plat iirc while armor pieces were 1 plat each).
Getting a good weapon was far easier for many reasons. Crafteds were much more accesible money-wise, you were rewarded with a green weapon on each campaign completion, there were a lot of champions along the world that dropped complementary green items, salvaging wasn’t random, …
I feel however that there are a couple of points about the latest versions of GW1 that affect the “gearing” process and need to be taken into account
a) The game became highly oriented to 7H groups, which means that you should probably unblock skills and get some runes/insignias/weapons for each one of your 7H, probably more (and obviously unblock the heroes themselves).
b) There were really powerful PvE-only skills which performed based on rank levels, so even if it wasn’t gearing at all, you still had to earn/farm those rank points (which were character based iirc) in order to perform at full potential (this was eased A LOT with one of the latest patches, not too far from the launch of GW2).
Rune of Major Vigor = Health +41
Rune of Superior Vigor = Health +50
9 hp difference xD

Yes, but your post was about people putting theirs up for sale and people buying them. Takes a lot of work either way.
Except if you buy gems and trade them to gold to buy the legendary. The ratio between hours spent in game to get a legendary or hours spent making the real life money to buy gems doesn’t compare at all.
So, there will be people running around showing off their legendaries that put in the work and then those who simply bought them via real cash.
I can imagine that people who worked for it in game might feel a bit cheated. All in all the karma system should provide unique rewards that are only attainable via karma. That side of the game is not used nearly enough. A missed opportunity.
It cost like $700+ and upwards to $1400 to buy enough gold from a gold selling sight to buy a legendary from the TP. I highly doubt we will see that many people who are willing to spend that kind of money
I find it quite mind boggling that anyone would spend that kind of real currency for a virtual item. Really, I don’t even believe anyone would.
http://www.cracked.com/article_18461_5-creepy-ways-video-games-are-trying-to-get-you-addicted.html
Look at the portion on ZT Online. That is the most evil and genius design I’ve seen in an MMO.
Imagine if Black Lion Chests not only offered a unique award…but that there was a daily reward exclusive to the person who opened the most black lion chests each day.
Even if that reward was a mini-pet or completely aesthetic, there would be individuals who pay THOUSANDS in order to get it.
What it’s said in that article is so true .____.

If an item is not showing, it’s because there’s no more recipes to discover that require it.
This, or also the level of your chara is too low to use them (if I’m not wrong some mats require it )

Kids jumping around with naked toons – It’s bad for ya, they will become serial rapists.
I see what u did there.

Good solo vid. It’s just a good display of phantasm/clone control, proper kiting, and build knowledge.
I don’t take it so much as being spit at that a boss can be solo’d, and the boss isn’t poorly designed considering I watch the spider queen wreck 5 man groups. It’s the same with Lupicus being solo’d by a warrior – it just goes to show that knowing the game, knowing your character, and playing well will take you far.
There are buffs I could give to the spider queen, and I’m sure there’s nerfs we can do to the mesmer – but none of which would be a result of this video. Spider Queen is a solid enough encounter for the lowest level dungeon, and OP is just good at playing the game.
I’d be very interested in seeing Kholer Solo’d! Good luck!
You’d better be careful with such statements, this can easily result in an excrement storm considering the latest mesmer “bugfixes”.
True enough. I don’t do skill balancing, I do content work, so I can’t speak for the system designers who do that stuff. But having shown this off to them and made them aware of it, they just saw it as good play, not about an OP skill. So I don’t think there are any nerfs coming to mesmers due to this video, or to warriors about the Lupicus video.
So he thinks there will not be nerfs for things shown in the video of a mesmer soloing Queen Spider, but he is still sure there are nerfs they can do to the mesmer…
Iruwen is right, it’s not my intention to troll, but devs please….
I believe I can cry.
Is it true that you think it needs further nerfs?
