There was a time when login looked like this and you could log-in already invisible.

Probably losing players is only a collateral result of making more money.
In my opinion this could be what is happening:
(Excluding TP)
Dungeons = best income
Easy dungeons = inflation, but pugs do them too, so the wealth gap between poor and rich is a bit mitigated
Hard dungeons = still easy for guilds, pugs avoid them
Less pugs runs = less gold for them
Pugs ~ Casual
3 possible outcomes for casual/pugs:
- Ignoring new items on the black lion trading company/ascended for alts
- Leaving
- Buying gems with real money
If a few non-paying user (the ones that are more inclined to leave) leave, they will be replaced by a single new player and his entry fee (box).

I would also add to the discussion that usually those comments are not about the lack of a “gear treadmill”, but about the absence of a proper “end-game”.
So consindering the fact that Anet clearly advertised that the game is build to have a very low vertical progression curve, I doubt that most of the ones that complain about the Gw2 would do it blaming the lack of VP.
- Mike Obrien
I’m sure that a lot of ppl would wear an hentaikamen “suit” on their male chara.
I would find it funny, and since there are a lot of other immersion-breaking things, it woulnd’t bother me at all. I vote for skimpy on male too.
- Mike Obrien
We need a status similar to “invisible” but that allow guys on our friendlist to whisper us.
- Mike Obrien
Imo,
Pro: a challenging game.
Cons: huge increase of the wealth gap between organised groups and random groups.
- Mike Obrien
I can’t asnwer because I like them both.
I can’t say everything is fine, because I don’t really like many of them and I would like to see new ones with canthan style (both skimpy and not skimpy).
- Mike Obrien
As long as companies will think that people addiction is worth more than people affection, that place will never exist.
The funny thing is that if they were not so greedy, all of us could experience playing wonderful games.
- Mike Obrien
I wanted to support the game by buying expansions, but I’ve reached the point where I’m no longer sure if I would buy one because I wanted an expansion in order to avoid the game becoming more and more gem store oriented and I doubt they will change that even after releasing one.
Even if they would promise no more gear tiers, no ever increasing grind, and bringing back the whole manifesto I don’t know if I could trust their words anymore. :S
I feel torn :S
- Mike Obrien
I can’t find the post, but I’m almost sure I saw a dev saying to keep them because TONS of these materials will be required for legendary armor.
- Mike Obrien
Upscaling now does add significant complexity to China players, as their leveling curve and the points at which they unlock features and systems is completely different from the experience in NA/EU. The Labyrinthine Cliffs was absolutely designed with both territories in mind, and with those considerations, everything from the decorations to the content was geared towards providing a fun festival for everyone to enjoy.
How much of a difference would it make to have our servers be at the for us apropriate level and leave the china server how it is?
I obviously do not know how which tools you have and how much tweaking is needed in return to these things done, but i guess at the moment you got some tricks and customs to get these things done.
Though, that is just what i believe…
If you think that all the next updates will be differentiated between our server and theirs I think you will be pretty disappointed in the future. Well at least this is what I think. Severs are different, but the devs (as far I know) are the same, I doubt they will have the time to create two different game mode for everything.
- Mike Obrien
It’s intended that Anet doesn’t want you to farm.
Instead, Anet wants you to:
-Spend all your gold as donations and throw away your mats for Boxes
-End up dedicating time with little to no rewards
-Resulting in being broke and having to buy gems to make a living in GW2
I love how much more sympathetic you became since you joined our group of casual players.
Back on topic.
I don’t like the zerg phenomenon, but I think people should be able to experience it around the world.
However in these kind of events we should be a bit more challanged, and anet is (also) trying to do so.
(imo) The problem is they still have no idea how to split groups, how to support their coordination and reward our time properly.
Lot of things feels often rushed and not tested enough, so what op is reporting could be just simply another oversight.

Now cross your fingers that you will not be hacked or you will lose all you have inside the guild bank even if they give you a rollback :P
Btw gz.
- Mike Obrien
Anyone know how chinese call it? What is their hanzi(?)?
- Mike Obrien
I like the idea, as long personal data are not shown, using just the account name doesn’t look so bad. But I can’t see any list right now, what happen?
Anet didn’t know about this and contacted them to remove it because if this post? xD
- Mike Obrien
It should have the same stats as ascended but allow stat changing and of course, a legendary looking skin.
Ascended are already kittening expensive, we should have stats change on them as well to avoid being stuck with the same stats/build forever.
Legendaies should be just what they were intended to be when anet advertised them: nice skins.
- Mike Obrien
I’ve lost ~140g of items simply because they were deposited in the guild bank.
My best friend account was hacked and anet, after verifying it was compromised and rerolled it for him, refused to restore those items for us without any explanation, totally ignoring our concerns. You can read in the restoration red post that they say they can’t, but not a single reason, not a single answer if you ask why.
My advice to other players, don’t deposit anything in your guild bank even if you’re the only member of your guild, don’t use it, you can be hacked and lose everything, forever.
It doesn’t matter how strong your gw2 password is, the hackers probably are not even using a brute force method.
Plus hackers are taking advantage of the mobile application right now. You should use it before a hacker does it.
Your best protection is crossing your fingers and hope to not being targeted by hackers.
My friend was using an updated antivirus, his gw2 password was never used on any other site, he didn’t reply to any phishing e-mail, etc…
If it has to happen, it will.
Good luck to everyone. orz

Friend account compromised, guild bank stolen
in Account & Technical Support
Posted by: Erick Alastor.3917
Same here. Anet is not willing, no reason given at the moment, except simply we can’t.
- Mike Obrien
I feel you. I got the items inside my guild bank stolen by the hacked account of my bestfriend (a guild of just 2 members).
Anet verified it was hacked, they’re willing to give him a rollback, but right now they’re refusing to restore the items that were in our bank as if it was some kind of internal prank or tricksy between guild members. They know it was an hacker, it makes no sense.
They don’t even tell us WHY they can’t.
I hope we both can receive out things back Pan :*
- Mike Obrien
My friend use antivirus and scan his computer regularly, he can discern phishing mail from anet ones, he doesn’t use a simply password and never use the same password on other site/game.
I’m not totally sure is my friend fault here. Some members of another guild I’m in are experiencing similar problems for a few days.
And again it’s a guild of just the two of us. Not nearly infinite transactions to check, just the last operated two day ago by his hacked account.
- Mike Obrien
This is not an issue between those in the guild, it’s an issue with 1 ATTESTED hacked account. The only other account in the guild since day -3.
°___°
- Mike Obrien
I’m writing a ticket for anet, to ask for the restitution of items stolen from my bank by the compromised account of my friend.
He received this mail:
Regarding your items and characters, we often are able to restore compromised accounts. You should know, however, that an account restoration will result in the loss of any progress you’ve made since regaining access to your account. If we restore your account, it will be returned to its state on XXXXXX. Achievements, accomplishments, and items acquired since regaining access to your account will be lost, but you will regain the items and gold that were taken in the compromise.
In addition, characters that were deleted during the compromise incident also will be restored.
Please note that we are unable to recover any losses you may have suffered in your guild or on the trading post.
In our guild it’s always been just the two of us, I’m also no longer using the guild bank since the incident. It should be incredibly easy to check what is missing, because all the items where withdrawn at once and probably sold on the TP.
There is any chance to recover those items? If not I’m speechless.
Please, if anyone resolved this problem, tell me how.
I’ve tried to contact them, but probably I was not clear enought because the told me:
I appreciate your enthusiasm to help your friend, but we are able to assist or discuss an account only with the original account owner.
The stolen items with his compromised account were mine… o_O
- Mike Obrien
Thank you all, then we can close this. Have a nice day.
- Mike Obrien
Nope! Apparently that’s the forums. Or something. IC will be here to explain probably.
Ty, at least I’m a bit more relaxed now °-°

I just noticed this, should I be afraid? (a friend of mine got hacked few days ago)
(p.s. I’m from Italy)

- Run EoTM karma train until you’re 80.
- Look up a build on the web and with the gold you’ve earned, buy only the traits you need.
- Spend the rest of your gold on gear.
- Begin to play the game.
This is pretty much how Anet wants people to play the game now.
Luckily, I was grandfathered in, don’t waste any time with ascended, and create my own builds.
For everyone else that needs to level… kitten I feel bad for you guys…I think people really don’t understand how Guild Wars 2 is supposed to be played, given how much they’re treating it like other MMOs.
Am I the only one to hang around whatever area I feel like simply because I enjoy the scenery and find the enemies fun to fight?
Not everyone has the same motivations. :/
It’s nice to look at and enjoy with the background music for a few times but I don’t understand how you’re “playing the game” if you’re just “looking at the sights.”
All have their own peculiar way of playing
- Mike Obrien
I ran into an Anet tag the other day, and as you do, I pumped him for info.
“Future content will be released at some time in the future.”
That’s a quote straight from the horses’ mouth, thanks Evan!
Man you are easy to please. I wonder people like you are the target group.
Maybe i can add something to the rumors.
Future Contend will be released in the future.
Right now we can bridge some time with present contend.
Or what about the past contend we played in the past ????Now we have a reason to look forward.
I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt and go with sarcasm being hard to spot on the internet.
I personally can’t wait for something new. On the other hand, I like to keep my expectations realistic. Some people have been comparing s subscribtion model mmo with a buy to play mmo. If you’re that keen on permanent updates, find yourself a nice subscription mmo. I hear ESO is… eh..new. There’s plenty of them out there, and another soon to launch!
This break was expected. IIRC, they said ‘break – feature patch – break’. They possibly need the extra time for the China launch; GW2hub is speculating about some major new content in the works, like the new zone a lot of people are craving.
TL:DR: Be realistic. Expecting a buy to play MMO to deliver the same level of content as a sub based one is likely to lead to dissappointment.
If you’re that keen on permanent updates, find yourself a nice subscription mmo.
I am keen on permanent expansions. That is why I went for a B2P game in stead of a F2P game.. You know F2P game focus on there cash-shop and that is not so good for the quality of the game and it’s content.
Sadly Anet then decided that they would still go for the cash-shop approach in stead of expansions.
So no need to look for another game, this game should just start focusing on expansions instead of monthly patches. You know, it being B2P and all.
If this game would have been a true B2P game we would have had or first expansion by now. So people don’t ask for to much imho.
Anet from the start have been pretty clear what content they intended to deliver. You buy the game, you get the game, plus frequent living story updates.
I’m not sure where you are getting the:’It’s buy to play, thus expansions’ from. You appear to be redefining the Buy to Play term to fit your own expectations, not the commonly accepted meaning of it.
Wut?
Guild Wars 2 was released on August 28, 2012 and they started talking about LS(LW) on January 31, 2013.
Plus the only B2P model back then was the one of GW1 and it sustained itself through expansions.

I hope this can help you with your testing

I’ve created a new character to test the new system.
It’s awful.
Character: Warrior.
Open PvE:
I was able to solo normal mobs 6 lv higher than mine with 0 traits, white stuff and some trinkets.
It’s a war and stats scales differently, so it’s normal, but probably some other classes will have hard times (i.e. mesmers).
- Every time I gained a trait point I had nothing to spend it on.
- Many Adept Traits are bounded to high level zones.
- Many traits require you a 100% zone exploration (totally unnatural).
- Some traits tell you to defeat the “Guy X” and point you to a generic location, making you roam without a clear destination (i.e. Champion Kol Skullsmasher).
- From all the Jumping Puzzles available, Obsidian Sanctum was all they could think about?
Dungeons:
- Organized groups: no problem, guildies can carry you. All you have to do is stack and let the others deal the real damage.
- Pugs: you were not welcome before the patch due your low level/gears, even if you had the right level for a specific dungeon. And how they fixed it? Now you also have no traits.
The idea behind the new traits acquisition it is not bad itself, but it has been implemented in a totally wrong way.
I wisehd for this new system, but I never though my wishes would have been granted by a monkey’s paw.
- Mike Obrien
lol @ fanboys
Anet says one thing, does another and they have people defend them on forums for it. Luckily most people are smarter and don’t appreciate the deception.
Fanboys? Where? (I dare not even imagine what it is that stain on the monitor )
- Mike Obrien
I’d love to know how you can be sure a player is a bot.
Aggro a Champion on their route and watch them die like flies, because they will fight that champion as it was a mere trash mob. I did a bots hecatomb yesterday. Funny moments.
- Mike Obrien
My vote goes to the one in Orr.
There one where you’re supposed to grab 8 keys to activate/open 8 separate chests before you can complete the JP. (Or was it 12? Can’t remember -_-)[Seems I hit the Q/A post button wrongly in this case]
I vote for that too, some keys are placed in absurd places and the reward is…well the typical jp reward.
Best jp: Goemm’s Lab. Expecially if you don’t use stability, it’s a shame they nerfed the wind :S
- Mike Obrien
Also 5 dailies used to give you 10 dyes.
Now it’s 5 dailies = 1 dye.
- Mike Obrien
If you buy a weapon skin, let’s say a Tormented Greatsword, you will not be able to display that name on your weapon, this can’t be intended, and if it is, it’s simply stupid.
- Mike Obrien
Stats switch on ascended.
- Mike Obrien
Why do not implement an Underflow instead of this Megaserver?
The only problem (to us players) was the fact that the casual guy exploring Tyria, in many servers, felt alone during most of his journey, but organized guilds had no problems at all.
Make this and everybody will be happy:
i.e. You travel to a new map and this pop-up appears:
Right now this map is sparsely populated. Would you like to find more players to play with from other servers?
a) No. (stay on your current server)
b) Yes. (move to an underflow)
Revert all to the old system and implement this.
No World Bosses schedule, no problems with guild missions or contested wp, etc.
Plus the casual guy/new player would still be able to find people to play with even if on his server a specific map is dead.
- Mike Obrien
Which is why Anet listened to the playerbase, added extra gear and then got raged upon.
O wai, players can’t suggest anything that can fail cause their ideas are some kind of a paradise in their imagination.
If you really believe that the forum reflects how many people are happy with the game then we gotta say that WoW should have been closed since release since Blizzard forums have simply been filled with people whining since release.
False. What the playerbase asked for was an endgame not more vertical progression, thus the rage.

(edited by Erick Alastor.3917)
This may sound stupid and is also the second time that I’m asking it.
I have never bought any gem with real money, because it’s not a model I want to support (I’m for the expansions route), but I spent my time earnig some gold and converting it to gems to buy something that has now been destroyed.
Am I entitled to a gems refund too? :S
- Mike Obrien
Next time please let us gain traits from activities like the Queen’s Gauntlet or defeating bosses that can be soloed in the open world like these.
Nothing epic in obtaining them doing some random zergfest.
- Mike Obrien
(edited by Erick Alastor.3917)
Works as intended. It’s a way to force you to try different game modes.
Not what they claimed in their Feature Pack description tho;
Achievement Unification
The PvP and PvE daily and monthly achievements will be merged. There will be enough achievements that you will be able to complete your dailies and monthlies entirely in PvE, WvW, or PvP if you like – but you can also dabble in different game modes and complete your achievements by playing a mix of content.
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/pvp-reward-tracks-and-gear-unification/
That was possible even before this update…
Who are they trying to fool with that sentence…
- Mike Obrien
Works as intended. It’s a way to force you to try different game modes.
Because dailies are something people want to do quickly, so with this system is more probable that you will chose something that you can accomplish quickly even if is not related to what game mode you’re used to.
- Mike Obrien
A moderator locked my question about Personality traits and sent me here. But I’m not talking about these traits. I’m talking about Personality
Where did Charm, Dignity and Ferocity go? In character creation, you choose if you are charming, dignified or ferocious. “Trouble may follow me, but I use my _ to overcome it.” Those stats are gone from my Hero page. Not that it really matters, cuz they never made a difference in-game anyway.(sorry to post here but the moderator told me to)
One of those traits was Ferocity. So probably this was the decision process.
- Mike Obrien
Yes I know I just gave you the link, Anet says many things and then often forget to deliver

Can you clarify me this, they will give us our gems back even if we exchanged them for gold and not for money?
- Mike Obrien
I like how this will finally help low level characters to find a party for dungeons more easily. /s

Let us preview all existing armor pieces, but give us the ability to use charges only on unlocked ones please.
The new dyeing preview is a cool addition, but we can’t use it on the old (but revamped) pvp locker system that you moved into the bank.

Wait what? Nage is Vayne, but if he’s Vayne who is Vol, my world is falling apart
Btw this discussion is pointless, we will never know for sure if the population is dropping, how much, why, etc… the only ones who could inform us are devs, but why should they?
Just play until the day GW2 die or you don’t like it anymore, come to the forum for feedback, suggestions and complaints, but for this kind of questions you will probably never get an answer.
- Mike Obrien
You seriously think people will move to another country just to get a better rate on their cash to gems transactions? Seriously? O.o
[…]
Sorry xD
I meant that people could leave for other new “online worlds” where their money would give them significative advantage over other players.
I saw that Anet earned from GW2 $3.88 per user over the last 12 months.
But it’s not like every player spent that money, a guy like the one in the image below can cover the fee of many, MANY non-paying users by himself.
So having the game relying on these players isn’t…it…a bit risky?
They greatly contribute to the creation of new content but I suppose they’re not the majority of the population, if they leave for new games anet would probably need to “convert” more non-paying users into paying ones.
Listening to what tolunart.2095 said, the game itself is build to work in that way, to prevent the absence of paying users, but honestly, if the average player experience burn out for not being able to achieve his self-imposed goals anymore (self-imposed, but stongly promoted by anet in almost every patch), would he blame itself for not having enough time/money due the increasing grind or would he blame the company for a system that move farther and farther his objectives to instill in him the desire to spend money?
Again, what’s the ratio that a non-paying customer is able to tolerate?
And passed that point he will really start to buy with real money?
$3.88 per each user is it way more lucrative than the purchase of a new expansion from the loyal core of the community?
edit: isn’t……it censored… really? -__-
