Rank 30 WvW Required for Gift of Battle Grind

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Erick Alastor.3917

Why are people still harping on about being “forced”?

When you cannot complete any content without a legendary weapon and as such when they become compulsory, when you are not able to simply buy them from the TP. Then the whole “forced” argument will have a little more gravitas. Until then it is utterly ridiculous.

If you want a specific item which is not needed but has reqs, then do the reqs and stop crying about being forced. Otherwise buy one or simply don’t have one at all, the choice is yours.

Actually, this reminds me a (little bit) of the Jinsu Razor in SWG. The pve only crowds crying now is as lame as it was back then.

Because WvW/PvE/PvP are very different kind of game.
Also the sentence “play the way you want” was a quite strong one.
If you want something there should be x number of ways to obtain it, all equally balanced.

If its a l2p issue like everyone says then this is a problem doubly so. how is a player who is decent not able to do it, vs someone who just started the game.

Noobs should be able to beat events. Ya starter area events are simple enough, but when you get to about 20 or 30 they get very difficult for a noob. Without this the game loses play ability, story, and content

Imo if you exclude Group Events, with the right tactics you can beat any skill challenge and basically complete everything else for the map exploration, but you need the right level and equip to do so (even if some zones/events are more forgiving than others).

Rank 30 WvW Required for Gift of Battle Grind

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Erick Alastor.3917

It really isn’t a matter of whether or not rank 30 is obtainable, easily or not. It is a question of why bother to put this additional restriction in place in the first place?

If you’re really asking why…

This move is being made to revert the WvW participation for a Legendary back to where it was before badges were put into Achievement chests. It’s possible to earn map completion without ever fighting a player. It was (is?) also possible to get badges from the JP. The requirement was put in originally to give people a chance to experience the game mode. ANet has decided their intent was not being served and changed the game so their intent is being served.

Feel free to disagree with their intent, but the “why” is readily apparent.

They introduced badges inside achivement chests because they didn’t want PvE players to steal spots that should be reserved to WvW players.

What are your thoughts on the PvE aspect of WvW, including jumping puzzles and world completion?
Colin: For the jumping puzzle, I would prefer that they not be in the WvW map and it’s a separate thing.
Especially when there’s a queue like that and people are trying to get in. It disconnects players from the content that they are trying to play.
How we answer that is going to be interesting. There’s a lot of different ways that we can separate that out, but in long run it’s very unlikely
that that will stay in the WvW map where it’s eating up population queue. We’ll go somewhere else and we’ll have to figure out the best way to do that.
“World Complete” is an interesting one. We’ve seen from our data metrics, that because [WvW] is on “World Complete”, there’s a bunch of people who play
WvW because it takes them there to actually get to know it and they end up having so much fun, that they stay.

What they are doing now is just wrong in my opinion.
Trying to achieve world completion is not enought to reach rank 30 and even if it was, what about people who already got their gift of exploration disliking the WvW endgame?
Why are they forced to come back now?
Again, I understand the point of WvW completion, it is a way to explore new mechanics, but if after trying it you don’t like it, it stops there.
Why force people into specific content.

Yeah you can also spend bedges from the achivements chest and laurels, just as you can use 40 laurels (days) and 50 ecto per piece for ascended Accessories instead of 12 guild commendation and 5 gold.
So you can say they are not forcing us, it is just a really strong advice to play the way they want you to play.

Anet try to force the PvE crowd to do WvW.
General uproar from the PvE crowd.

If I’m roaming alone in open pve I should be able to do everything that a zerg is able to do, this clearly would require to press something more than #1, otherwise it would result just in a total defeat.

Deceptive Evasion nerf

in Mesmer

Posted by: Erick Alastor.3917

Erick Alastor.3917

Grouch,

I have come to the conclusion that this recommended change was simply not well thought out. This is a nerf to all builds, and it is completely unnecessary to nerf all builds in this manner.

Here are the kinds of situations this change will negatively impact w/3 clone out:

  1. Phantasmal Retreat – no longer creates a clone meat shield to soak the attack you are about to get
  2. Thief jumps you – you no longer can dodge+daze
  3. Someone is rezzing/stomping – you no longer can dodge+daze
  4. You won’t be able to replace that iWarden that’s standing there and doing nothing with a useful Beserker or iSwordsman
  5. Clones are 1000m away standing and doing nothing while you are getting attacked – you won’t be able to summon more clones to help

This idea will hurt all mesmer builds overall, and, to put it mildly, Mesmers aren’t all over the meta right now as it is.

This idea was not well thought out, and that’s the nicest thing I can say about it.

We can improve point 5: every clone you summon will spawn in a random tyrian tavern wasting your money on ale xD

Btw, I though wewe would have got the fix for the warden and instead we got this… :S

Erick Alastor.3917

If you have three clones up and dodge with DE, the oldest clone will be destroyed and will apply on-death effects while a new clone is spawned.
After the patch, nothing will happen.

See the picture?

Then why just don’t apply on-death effects only if a clone is killed (by a foe) and not when it’s overwrited? o_O

edit:
Plus I would let it like this
1st clone + 2nd clone + 3rd clone > dodge > 1st clone desroyed and replaced by a new one + 2nd clone + 3rd clone

1st phantasm +2nd phantasm + 3rd phantasm > dodge > nothing happen

1st phantasm + 1st clone + 2nd phantasm> dodge > 1st phantasm + 1st clone destroyed and replaced by a new one + 2nd phantasm

TRADING POST:

  • TP has now some limitations that prevent flipping being too lucrative and we set a cap (an high one) to the gold that can be earned weekly from it.
  • We removed the ability to buy/sell Legendary weapons.

BLACK LION COMPANY:
We slip gems in two subcategory:

Common Gems:

  • You can purchase them with Gold.
  • You can purchase them with Real Money.
  • They give you access to all the items of the BLC except armors/weapons skins
  • You can use them to purchase a specific RNG chest with rare (not extremely) chance to obtain a “MAP” (item) for the skin you are looking for.
These chest will become available only after one month (or two) from the release of the new skins.

Rare Gems:

  • You can purchase them with Gold, but with an extremely high exchange rate. (You will spend something like -the actual value of- 150g for a single skin)
  • You can purchase them with real money. (You will need something like 10€ for a single skin)
  • They give access to all objects of the BLC, but the main function is to allow the acquisition of the new skins.
The skin will not be available instantly, indeed, you will get a “MAP” (item) that will trigger a random event around the world that once completed will reward you with the skin.

GENERAL:

  • We are working on getting rid of the Zergfest, so we decided to scale better events.
  • Now you can upgrade Transmutation Stones to Transmutation Crystals through the forge. 15 TS = 1 TC
  • Scavenger hunt has finally been implemented. Enjoy your journey.
  • We fixed all the clipping issues you tirelessly posted on the bug section (expecially for the poor Charr) since beta!

The update log of my dreams >_>
PVE:
1. Sidekicking has been reintroduced.
The player that will explore maps higher than his own level will receive exp and rewards appropriate to his real level.

2. All items are now Account Bound.
(In order to “normalize” a bit some builds) All items share now the same standard stats (i.e. power/precision/vitality) and 4 minor upgrades:

  • 1 Jewel (to create a carrion/berserker/knight/etc spec)
  • 1 Rune (for armor only) or 1 Sigil (for weapons only)
  • 2 Infusions

Players who owned an item with a specific set of stats will have that item replaced with the new one with standard stats + 1 jewel + 1 rune/sigil and 2 infusions according to their previous set.

When applied for the first time (whether they are obtained through crafting, purchase, drop, etc) the different “set of stats” (carrion/berserker/knight/etc) associated with Jewels and infusions will be “unlocked” for that item and will be switchable at will if out of combat. Runes and Sigils will also remain soulbound.

If an item with unlocked jewels/runes/sigils/infusions is given to a new character, this object will appear, however, devoid of everything previously unlocked.

The secondary character will have to re-unlock all the power-ups he need on that item.
The item will, however, hold memory of the list of “set of stats” unlocked on the previous character, if therefore returned to that one it will present the old list of unlocked mods.

3. Now skins can be permanently unlocked.

  • Each transmutation crystal now grants the the ability to save the skin you are transmutating on the transmuted item.
  • You will be able to switch skins at will (if out of combat) through a menu accessible right clicking on the item.
  • The skins will be unlocked account bound, but if you give the item with an unlocked skin to a secondary character it will show only the original skin, in order to gain the “unlocked” skin you have to spend another transmutation crystal (select from a menu the skin, click unlock and a crystal will be consumed).

4. Added some rare and short events that occur in random locations (even low level areas).
If you manage to complete them in certain span of time you will get a rare skin reward.
Some of those can be soloed.

5. A conversion system has finally been created (with what we think is an appropriate exchange rate) to reduce the too many currencies that flock the game, this way we feel that everyone will be able to play how he wants and still attain goals related to our slow vertical progression.

6. Laurels are now Character Bound.

7. Dailies are now weekly.
You will get rewards (exp/money/karma) at 25%-50%-75%(chance of bltc item)-100%.

8. Now if you reach the maximum level, you will be able to destinate a percentage of the extra-accumulated experience to another character of your account who has already
gained at least 40 levels.

9. We created 2 types of Hard Mode:

  • Dungeons Hard Mode: this will provide users better rewards (+15% gold, and karma).
Mobs will hit you harder and bosses will behave differently and more randomly.
  • Open PvE Hard Mode: this will grant you a magic find bonus. Players can activate/deactivate the HM with a delay of 1h, but it is possible to reset the delay changing map using a WP.
PvE HM consist in a downlevelling system that significantly reduces your stats and disable specific skills/stats/traits.

Mmm, no.

Ascended weapons aren’t required for me to fight the Shatterer. I am not wrong on this.

If they make a single bit of difference in how much damage you do, they are no longer prestige items, they are required. Failure to accept the truth doesn’t make it any less true.

Saying you aren’t required to have the highest tier item in the game is like arguing that you don’t have to bother leveling to the cap. The word that sums that up is “stupid”.

If it’s so true and obvious that ascended gear is required, then site some examples.
Prove it.

As far as we know, they’are the only viable way (excluding legendaries) to access to the vertical progression tha arenanet want to deliver in the upcoming years.

You’re assuming that would have been enough to placate the locusts (which I am dubious). They WANT the number creep. They would have dismissed your plan as just prettied-up exotics, and rejected it just as wholly as the initial gear progression.

And the monthly Living Story with your “better quality control” (which it really wasn’t, for the record), wasn’t enough either. Players ground through those initial offerings in days and whined they were bored.

See, the people who are trying to hold up the manifesto either can’t (or don’t want to admit) that the locusts are NECESSARY. Arena.net HAS to keep them happy to keep the game solvent. Arena.net’s original plan DIDN’T WORK. Yes, it kitten es off part of the loyal fanbase… but it had to be done.

You have sources to support such a bold claim, I’m sure.

He doesn’t. Even if true, ANet would not admit it. Based on what they did say (“Sales of GW2 exceeded our expectations.”), it’s more likely they attracted people they did not expect to attract and added a flat gear progression feature to try to keep some of them. They way they’ve implemented Ascended after the initial “FotM only” release says they were trying a middle of the road approach.

Unfortunately I don’t think they did not expect to attract the people they attracted…
and you can understand that thanks to many contents of the game…
Try to google “Obsidian Sanctum”, “Stalwart Shoulderpads”, the late “FoTM”… and many many other names present in this game… they knew what they wanted even back then (sadly).

Right now 21 legendaries are worth more or lesser 55.000 Gold, I don’t know how many hardcore have all of them, but I suppose a really tiny portion of the players.
Why don’t “scale the effort” in a way that ALL those weapons can be collected in 1 years of hardcore gameplay so even the avarange player can aspire to collect 2 or 3 in the same time?
Then after an year… release a new set and so on… I don’t think 19 new weapons per year are too difficoult to implement…
Also giving a way to show a whole collection could be cool, you know, like Hall of Monuments…

Increase of grind. Lack of new content.

If the grind was not this ridiculous a lot more people would have started chasing for legendaries and (one of) the meta would have been collect them all, this way instead, excluding tp manipulators/really lucky guys/koreangrindersalike, even just a single one of those items is faaar away from the average player, so many simply don’t care or even if they do after the first one they’re burned-out.
Anet (imo) can make nice content and give us a lot of things to keep us interested, but they’re often failing in the way they implement them.

Super Gear Grind?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Erick Alastor.3917

Erick Alastor.3917

were you thinking of the item skins? because i don’t think that’s considered a gear grind since your basicly just taking the model of one item and sticking it on another

or did you mean the ascended stuff, because those aren’t actually very much better than the exotic stuff, it’s only few stat points in difference, and the fact that there probably won’t be a higher tier than ascended for a VERY VERY long time

either way, the “gear grind” in gw2 is so minimal and so impractical (like you said, 2-3 weeks per ascended piece which is a really short time in my opinion), it may as well not have existed at all

Usually almost everyone agree that WoW is grindy, having said that, I would like to quote this old post:

[…]how is GW2 different than any MMO? Speaking specifically to progression.

Simply put, I don’t see much of a difference.

I’ll take WoW as an example since many people have played it.

WoW:——————————————-GW2:
BiS gear through raids:————————BiS gear through crafting
Required only in raids————————-Required only in Fractals
New tier every 2-3 months——————-New slot every 2-3 months

So, wheres the difference? Focus on the second line item…required only in raids / required only in fracta.s. True, currently ascended gear is only required in fractals similarly raid BiS gear in WoW is only required in raids(you can do any heroic content or daily quests with minimal gear.)

Wheres the difference? Why has GW2 been put on a pedestal, first by arenanet and now by the community, as a game where gear doesnt matter and isnt required in any part of the game except fractals. WoW, the almighty gear treadmill of them all, is the same way if you look at it like this. So why is GW2, in your eyes, a unique snowflake here?

Edit: Speaking solely interms of character / gear progression. I know this topic can be applied to many other areas of the game.

This is not true.

The point of time gating isn’t “You can ever catch up faster than once per day while you are in game at all”

It’s “You can never fall behind faster than 1 per day while you’re gone.”

Except that gating, in some cases, can be circumvented using something that is earned grinding or spending real money.
I doubt that this limit facilitate those who have little gold/few hours per day to play (usually causal players that don’t play flipping wars 2).

For example:
Ascended crafting materials (I suppose) right now are crafted by players who already have a lot of money to other players who have a lot of money to spend, that’s because leveling crafting disciplines is so expensive that (many, imo the majority of) casual gamers do not even try it.

If you could craft gated materials with just lv. 400, then that would be a nice way to help casual to take advantage from richer players that want to bypass the limit, but that’s not what it is happening.

I think this game is gradually becoming less and less friendly to the casual crowd, the only recent exceptions (finally) are:
- accountbound levels on fractals (but counterbalanced with an awful vertical progression revamp).
- more achievement to chose from for the daily, now it’s a bit easier to complete it, you almost have no need to focus on it.
A good step could also be considered the share of World XP between characters.

One of the reasons I like jumping puzzles is that you reach the meta improving in something that is not a stat nor even an ability in you skill bar.

I feel that the game as a whole should be developed around this type of progression.

Excluding the zergfest (to access to the real content) that the crown pavillion was, the Queen’s Gauntlet was a nice addition (imo).
During that activity I was forced to learn more about my opponents, my own profession and to experiment with my build to overcome those challanges.

Surely owning items with big stats numbers can be helpful, but then that would be just a demonstration of how long I played, not of the quality of the time I spent.

Btw, yeah this thread again, so weird that time after time is not the same person posting it.
I say maybe, again, maybe it’s a natural reaction being mesmerized by such a beutiful list of intents and maybe it’s sad to observe were things went, so when people find the manifesto they come to the forum to ask: “Why”?

Hi,

To clarify I am looking forward to hearing the communities thoughts on speed of acquisition such as how long crafting time takes? or drop rates in fractals and other areas of the game etc.

I hope this adds some clarity.

Chris

With these premises, I feel that this discussion will not lead anywhere.
All I get from this is that you think that the current mechanical of acquisition of ascended items and the grind required are ok, but you can tweak a bit the time-gating and/or the ubermegararerngbased reward.

What the anet that I knew would have done to fix what has already been done?

  1. Multi set-stats ascended: Crafting. Sellable.
Grindy, but with the ability to switch stats and (I can’t say less beautiful because beauty is subjective so…) with less particle effects.
People who already spent money on them would not be upset.
  2. Single set-stats ascended: Dungeon/Fractals/Guild’s Missions/JP/Exploring/DE/LSLW/WWW.
Slightly (imo currently they are not only slighlty) harder than Exotics to obtain, Account Bound-Soulbound on use.

Arenanet Your Community wants duels already.
options to duel other ppl in all over tyria….
so plz open your Eyes at :“duels” duels duels duels duels duels duels duels
duels duels duels duels duels duels duels and duels.
people could spend so much time dueling and having alot of fun instread of sitting in LA and doing nothing.

Well Jon Peters would disagree with Excalibur
I don’t know why some people are bothered by this feature.
Most of them are also forumers that often say: “if you don’t like that just ignore it”.
I find it funny
Btw, in my opinion all devs need to do is give players the ability to turn it off.

The End of Transmutations

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Erick Alastor.3917

Erick Alastor.3917

1) Guild Wars Principle #3: Players should look the way they want to look.

2) Q: How much will transmutation stones cost? Will they be available outside of the in-game store?

Eric: We haven’t finalized the pricing structure on transmutation stones. We’re not certain at this time whether or not transmutation stones will be available outside of the in-game store. Philosophically we believe that players should have a way to acquire items like transmutation stones through the course of playing the game and not just through purchase in the in-game store. We’ll talk in greater detail about how we plan to accomplish this when we arrive at a final paradigm.

3) Q: Will all of the most desirable armors in the game have crappy stats, thus “requiring” the expenditure of real money to acquire transmutation stones in order for our characters to wear the armors we want?

Eric: Absolutely not. We’re not changing the way we make armor at all because of this system. Guild Wars 2 starts players off with basic but very attractive armor (as seen in our demo) and from there the armor only gets cooler. In fact, we have a ton of very cool armor at the high end of the game, which means that many players will never use a transmutation stone since they’ll want to keep the appearance of the new gear that they find.

I remember back then when I read these lines and I was totally hyped, stupid me.
But now I see what they meant ._.
1) You just have to choose if you want to pay or grind. (inb4: or just play)
2) Infinitesimal chance while playing.
3) T3. Orders. “Cool” ascended armor… (inb4: dungeon armors! <- not every stats available for every model)

Well at least, if I’m not wrong, they said they are considering ways to implement something to better manage skins.
I’m ok with the idea of an horizontal progression through skins, but this can be achieved encouraging you to acquire new skins, forcing you to grind again for something that you’ve already got it’s not really fun (imo).

Is not solo'able

in The Nightmare Within

Posted by: Erick Alastor.3917

Erick Alastor.3917

I will never understand the desire of some “players” to solo every single content of massively multiplayer role playing game. And not just the desire but entitlement as well. If you wanna play entire game solo w/o anyone bothering you just go play Skyrim (or any sp game, I believe there are many of those on market).

Oh crap, it looks like some parts of a massive multiplayer online game might not be solo-able.
Who could’ve guessed that?

You both need to think before you speak. Stop with the bashing of other players who want solo content and read first.

It’s the patch notes that state this is solo content. So before you go on your rants of how this is an MMO and that players need to go play single player games if they want solo content, realize it was Anet who made this solo content. Anet released content that is intended to be soloed. Yes I know, solo content in an MMO. Anet’s decision, not the players.

So if you want to be rude and bash on someone, do it to Anet. They are the ones who added solo content to your MMO that you think should always require a group. Otherwise, keep it to yourself.

Anet said we’d have solo content, you can solo ALL the instances inside the tower, you require a group to get there for the 1st time. Nevertheless, you’re still getting solo content.

So it’s both solo + group content, if you want to play a 100% single player you’re in the wrong genre.

Nice try tho

So when the zerg is gone, voilà, you’re locked out from your solo content and never be able to experience it again until the zerg comes back.
I don’t know if the worst thing is a content designed for the zerg or a content designed also for solo players but whose access is gated behind the zerg.
This remind me a lot of Queen’s Gauntlet.
