Everytime you kill a ghost labelled “Ascalonian Adventurer” you’re really killing someone’s character from GW1 :P

As with Zeefa I wrote a fair bit about where my characters ended up whilst I was waiting for GW2 to come out. Most of mine ended up resettling in Vabbi so when we finally come up against the hordes of Palawa Joko I’ll probably be killing my own ancestors there. He doesn’t seem like the kind of person that would leave the tombs of the dead alone when he performs a hostile takeover.

My Ele however got fried fighting destroyers with the dwarves. So at least I won’t be killing him again.

So far all we know is:
- They have been driven up from the deeps by something. (The Quaggen might know more about them in this case)
- They will be very difficult to kill.
- They are surprisingly fast.
- The event in LA is going to be awesome

Pretty sure they removed it because after seeing it 100x it becomes old and nobody double clicks the gw2.exe to stare at a login screen

Oh, yeah, now we just click it to see outdated Caithe artwork.

The old login screen was easily one of the better login screens I’ve seen in the ~15 years since login screens became a thing. Why they removed it is a mystery we are simply not meant to understand, I guess.

I completely agree. My favourite part was actually the little colour coded thing that told me that I got my password right. Even if they just added that to the new login box that would make me happy.

He’s a pretty prominent character in Destiny’s Edge and he is mentioned several times by NPCs in LA. It’s a good question, Drakenvold. Maybe they are keeping him and the other members of the captain’s council back until a later update?

Though you’d figure he would have been around more for the whole thing with Zhaitan, considering the business with Morgus Lethe.

I was playing it more but lately there has been a lot of whining on Gandara’s map chat and theres only so much “OMG U NOOBS WHY U RUN AWAY” I can take before I want to commit several large scale and very messy friendly fire incidents alllllll over the spawnpoint.

Invisible zergs are still the biggest cause of this. People on lower end machines rush in thinking there are only two people taking a supply camp when the rest of us can see that there are actually about fifty.

I dunno.

Oh and realising that the invader armour for over 14k badges of honour was not a unique skin… that was pretty de-motivational too haha.

I guess we will have to wait till people have bumrushed through the new dungeon to find out. I am kind of going after the hammer.

I am getting the materials and stuff together but I am not working totally flat out on all night every night trying to do it. I know that I’ll have it before the end of 2013 but I am not going to work myself into the ground doing things that aren’t really fun in order to get it :P

They are worth it in so much as when you spot one you are like “wow that takes a lot of effort, grats” but they don’t really add anything to the gameplay. They’re a social mechanic that lets people know you have a lot of free time and dedication to the cause.

There is a certain NPC from the whispers storyline whose parents show up later on. Since he’s in his early twenties they must be in their fourties or fifties. You can sort of tell.

When you’re not logged in the NPCs are all in a special part of the map we can’t see getting their hair and makeup done so that they always look flawless. Even the Charr.

Especially the Charr.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Essarious Quw.8946

I have noticed that people aren’t very chatty in GW2 compared with the game that spawned it, and its largely due to the way it works. All the mechanics that make the game fun to play also make it hard to type. I love using skills and moving and dodging and rolling around but I keep having to quickly put “two ticks” in the chat when someone asks me a question cos I can’t kill things and talk.

My guild is getting better now with people talking more, but honestly the only times I’ve had an actual conversation with someone through this game is when we were both stood in a city or a safe part of the map doing nothing.

I have the same series card and the same crash, for a while it was ONLY happening in GW2 but now it’s spread to my other games so long as I play on anything other than the lowest possible graphics settings. I think it’s an issue with the Catalyst Control Centre and no amount of faffing and fiddling has managed to get it to stop crashing other than playing all my games with ugly graphics.

Honestly playing on the lowest settings is depressing given how well this card used to run. It’s an ATI issue not a GW2 one.

The Orders... Which do YOU prefer?!

in Personal Story

Essarious Quw.8946

I had WAY more fun with Whispers than with the other two so far, several times whispers missions have -actually- had me in stitches. Though in terms of the orders themselves, I would probably have to say that the Priory stuck with me the most.

The Whispers didn’t feel as much like a secret organisation as I thought it would, so where I expected to be spying and getting involved in the subtleties of political intrigue and dragon secrets I was very quickly in the pact and no longer being sneaky. The Priory missions were however exactly as I thought they would be, and I wasn’t left feeling like there could have been more there.

So yeah… Whispers for comedy value, Priory for actual content.

Run ahead and aggro all the things in a hotheaded rage, leading to your party fail their objective and refuse to res. Whilst active your aggro range is increased 100% and even passive mobs will want a piece.

Take one for the team
Run into battle without any backup and die from a sudden random avalanche caused by a dwarf riding a drake. There’s no real good reason why you’re there without backup, but the avalanche will confuse and stun your enemies enough for your team to run away to safety in Kryta.

Kormir’s Sacrifice
Teleport to a downed enemy and absorb their powers, enabling the person who actually killed it to qq for the rest of eternity about how you stole their godhood.

Some zones I went through on my main were really interesting with events going off left, right and centre… going through them again with my reroll and they were all bugged or couldn’t trigger and I did entire maps without a single event.

Trahearne-Now What?

Well, the pact has already started fighting Jormag in Frostgorge Sound. I think we’ll be getting a new NPC with a vested interest in the conflict however, probably a Norn or a Kodan. I don’t think that Trahearne’s wild hunt will truly end until Orr is a land of nature once more. If his presence continues beyond the introduction of the next arc of the personal story (and it will probably be quite a good arc too) then I will be very surprised.

Currently Gandara is up against Ring of Fire and Underworld, because we’re in the lead we’ve had an influx of new commanders, guilds and players. The commanders coming across are a joke, they’re much worse than our natives and many of the players are not jelling with the existing community well either so we’ve got some social problems :I

Trolls?

Essarious Quw.8946

I am trying to do spoilers but its not letting me XD Basically don’t read beyond this point if you want all of the sylvari story to be fresh to you. Okay seriously now I am going to say a thing. There is a mirror that pulls those who try to use it directly into Orr, it seems unlikely that such an item would be unique. And are you sure Jormag’s corruption isn’t physical? Turning beings into living ice seems pretty physical to me, as does the corruption of the Svanir infested territory in the shiverpeaks. Certainly Kralkatorrik’s initial zerg was all about physical corruption too but don’t forget that his former champion Glint was ALL about the mental corruption. I’m still not sure whether she was good or evil as she was more than willing to let us walk right into a trap with the lich. I went back and did the bonus for her lair after that on principle.

Trolls?

in Lore

Posted by: Essarious Quw.8946

Essarious Quw.8946

Trolls definitely leave a body when they die in guild wars, however Zhaitan’s corruption doesn’t just affect the dead. Yes raising and mutilating corpses is his primary way of gaining new minions, but there are several personal story quests that imply that he can also corrupt the living.

I’d link specific Wiki pages here but since the game is new I think they’re trying to avoid being spoileriffic so here’s the abridged version:
- In the human personal story you discover that possession of an Orrian artefact can and will corrupt you into a servant of Zhaitan.
- It is implied by NPCs out in the world (the ones that talk to each other when you walk past) that the plague given off by Orrian corpses can make you sick, and turn you to Zhaitan without killing you.
- In the midway point of the personal story you find out that the breath of both Zhaitan and it’s more powerful generals can corrupt perfectly healthy living beings immediately.
- It is also implied by NPCs that living things are taken to Orr specifically to be corrupted. This is supported by part of the Sylvari personal story involving an enchanted mirror.

It is also possible for both Jormag and Kral-whatsisface- to corrupt the living. No matter how much bigger, stronger, smellier or healier (I know it’s not a word but eh) you are, if you come into contact with an Elder Dragon without some sort of backup you are going to be corrupted and become a problem for the player character.

Who sets Gem prices?

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: Essarious Quw.8946

Essarious Quw.8946

Gem prices are rising because people are stocking up on gems ready for the Haloween additions to the gemstore. In the same vein fewer people buying gems for cash are selling them because they also want to wait and see what costumes become available, since supply is so low the prices are getting a bit stupid.

This is going to happen everytime a seasonal event comes around so remember to stock up in the good times in future.

Nope no glitch, it’s markedly easier. I started in the headstart access and was one of the many to first zerg my way across Orr… The missions were genuinely challenging and I respected their difficulty, even more so when partying up to help others complete them just made them even harder. They were fun though, not stressful.

Now its like… Trinity is so easy that it’s honestly depressing. It honestly took me the best part of an hour to complete it the first run through and it felt like an epic struggle, granted most of that was Trahearne getting stuck, but still! It was fun. And as for the eye! Well he was a tricky little kitten and I enjoyed the feeling of victory having taken him down, but eh. Faced him on my guardian a few days ago and its just such an easy fight now. Yeah he has his tricks but I didn’t feel like it was a desperate struggle.

Particularly the lack of flow between sections, each one seems to forget not only about the one before it but about everything you’ve done, and at the end of the game I was seriously doubting Trahearne’s sanity after he frequently introduced me to people I had personally recruited and saved.

“Meet these two sylvari and this special artefact that you personally recovered with the help of an asura who now refuses to leave your personal instance. Don’t mind me whilst I just take the credit and pretend you weren’t even there or that I didn’t even send you to go rescue them to begin with. Also who are you? Humans: A dying race?

in Human

Posted by: Essarious Quw.8946

Essarious Quw.8946

Humans certainly don’t seem like a declining race. If this was the writer’s intention it’s not been communicated very well at all. Certainly human society is in decline, with only two of their nations* remaining in the small corner of Tyria that we get to explore during the launch version, but there were other human lands further afield and maybe even lands that we never even got to hear mention of let alone visit.

Then again humanity has been written a more than a little unfairly in Tyria by Arenanet. Humans are equally as smart as the Asura if provided with the proper education and tools, but are often written off as bumpkins or buffoons. I think the temptation of a fantasy realm is to show all the things that do not exist as being better than humans and the real world, when really our race as a whole is much more advanced than the writing team give us credit for.

Where are the human geniuses? Where are the philosophers, the philanthropists, the industrialists and the engineers? Where are the inventors of the teleporters once used in Ascalon and Elona well before the time of the Asura. Where are the explorers and fearless merchants who would sell their sisters for 250e and a rare minipet? :P

Humans aren’t as in decline as the lore would have you believe, but they aren’t getting a fair writeup. The release of GW2 seems to be: the Charr and Sylvari show. Maybe things will change in further expansions.

*Ebonhawke isn’t part of Kryta. They are allies with Queen Jennah but they are a separate entity.

rata sum also happens to be built on the ruins of an ancient civilization that no one seems to know the origions of. hmmmm…what kind of ancient peoples might have had a great city full of pyramids and such that would have been somwhere in that regeon…

Orrians are known to have had a presence in the Tarnished Coast. They are also known to be very magical.

Nothing says the civilization who built the ruins were ancient, just that the structures were run down by 1079. Given their location, this could have happened within 100 years easily.

I am glad you think this. I don’t think the structures were Orrian but I do think that whoever lived there was fed to the bloodstones before the Mursaat moved into Kryta.

As for being on topic… Anet have said that they have some plans but that remains to be seen. The fact that the Isles of Janthir are on the world map though suggests that there is a possibility (if only slight) that we will get to go to the Mursaat homeland at some point.
