If people ask me to ping equipment, I leave the party and find someone else to run with. I don’t have time for people to be bad tempered and blame each other for the slightest mistakes.

Games are supposed to be fun. Save the uniforms for when we have to go out and earn money.

I am guessing its one of the arches from that image. I think most of the random stonework/piles of stone that you find out and about in Orr is supposed to have fallen out of these when the cataclysm ruined everyones day.

Time spent thinking of names?

in Human

Posted by: Essarious Quw.8946

Essarious Quw.8946

I was in the preorder rush so I felt bad about not using the names that were reserved for my from GW1. So for my human characters at least they are just copies.

They all have Quw usually somewhere in the surname as that’s my guild identifier, and then the first names were pretty easy to come up with. Usually when I see a character’s face I can figure out what their name should be pretty easily. This time around I was working from names to make the faces, but they’ve turned out good.

So why are you a Human?

in Human

Posted by: Essarious Quw.8946

Essarious Quw.8946

Although it’s naive in places and corny in others, I really like the human story. So I have three human characters so that I can play through all the paths. I was going to have four, and have four descendants of my GW1 characters but after playing a Sylvari in the beta my first character underwent a mysterious salad related change in his physiology.

Quite odd really :P

From an aesthetics point of view; Djenna and Jorin are descended from my Dervish, so I tried to make them look Vabbian (although they ended up looking Orrian) and Kanah was an attempt to make a very much Elonian character, and flesh out the family a bit as he’s Djenna’s cousin.

What kind of armor do you like?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Essarious Quw.8946

Essarious Quw.8946

I don’t get why armor is class-restricted. Just let everyone wear whatever they want and suffer the penalties.

If you want your guardian to wear the light starter set, then go for it. Just don’t expect it to stop an arrow. Similarly if you want your ele to wear t3 plate… just don’t attune to air.

It’s totally meant as an “oh god I’m surrounded!” button, like Golden Ax and Final Fight… or was it Streets of Rage?… Anyway, yeah, it needs work. It’ll have a make-over for next release. I’ll look into knocking things off cliffs, as that is one of the most viscerally fun things to do in a game.

Can we please be able to sparta mobs off cliffs in regular pve too? I mean, they can do it to us so its only fair :P

Essarious Quw.8946

On my ranger I don’t even notice them anymore. I just pop some stability when I see the little ring appear around my character and the ranged damage doesn’t bother me.

On my Guardian however… oh good lord I hate these things. They bat me around worse than the risen used to. Although at least the periscopes are pretty far apart so its not like I can be dragged into a dark corner and brutalised before I can hit a skill off (God how much I hated Orr before).

Misthole sounds obscene. I like it.

I love the fact that they’ve added a new town, I just wish I didn’t have to keep repeating the flame and frost instance to explore it. I think we need more lore in game in general, maybe a few readable books in Hoelbrek (wolf shrine would be ideal) or the nearby lodges that explain why Cragstead is there and why it needs so many statues of wolves.

Too many even.

Sylvari -the sexiest playable race in Tyria?

in Sylvari

Posted by: Essarious Quw.8946

Essarious Quw.8946

I dunno, I’m the exact opposite, one of the really key things preventing me from playing a Sylvari is the badly done voices…. Or more so I just don’t like the accent. I can’t take them seriously…

Like for example the male cry of retaliation “I dare you! Hit me!” In fact, the voice chat program I’m on, my guild and I regularly imitate sylvari quotes for laughs, I just couldn’t main a character like that.

Though, I’am british myself so, I guess I just find the accent boring and mundane, and to be frank, like a shoddy impersonation of a british accent.

Haha we do the same, cept most of us are Northern so we use our local dialects to talk over Sylvari in cutscenes. My favourite so far has to be Geordie sylvari.

“Wy’eye man! Cmun then, l’box ya!”

I do enjoy the aesthetics of my Sylvari characters more than my others though. And the cultural armour is just amazing.

What do omnom berries taste like?

in Lore

Posted by: Essarious Quw.8946

Essarious Quw.8946

Fruit tastes of whatever you put into it so…

Omnomberry bushes are fat and watery. So the berries are likely very watery/juicy.

They grow in sandy/saline areas along the coastal parts of Orr. Fruits that grow in saline areas (salt marshes, coastal farms) usually have a dry taste, or a sharpness. Dry in that it will clear your palette.

Finally due to the miasma that coats Orr, they don’t get a lot of sun so they’re probably on the tart side.

When you cook something that is watery, with a dry taste and a certain tartness… it usually becomes sweet and refreshing. And when you ferment it… mmmmm… Omnomberry wine anyone?

Kryta - Too white washed?

in Lore

Posted by: Essarious Quw.8946

Essarious Quw.8946

It takes longer than 250 years to lighten the skin due to environmental changes/cultural influx.

As for the huge masonic thing… Old Kryta had huge structures all over the place. Massive towers and citadels that dominated the skyline and the environment, the stone towers in Lions Arch are the remnants we see of this in GW2. It falls completely in line with the lore that Divinity’s Reach would be built along similar lines.

However… I do agree that it has been whitewashed. In a multicultural metropolis such as this, cut off from outside influence etc, the regressive traits such as pale skin, blonde hair and blue eyes would be the ones in the minority. This is probably more to do with marketing and less to do with lore however.

Why do Sylvari have genders?

in Sylvari

Posted by: Essarious Quw.8946

Essarious Quw.8946

Arkon, Sylvari aren’t ‘gay’ (the correct term to that would be homosexual, by the way, gay is just an older term for being happy) they don’t make difference between genders in relationships. It’s been stated in this thread before too.

Gay in reference to homosexuals actually means “good as you” as in “we are as good as you”.

What's up with the wing and bird Motifs?

in Human

Posted by: Essarious Quw.8946

Essarious Quw.8946

The Ebon Vanguard’s motifs are similar to the Hall of Monument’s eagles and statuary.

But yeah the wings on the T3 armor come from Dwayna and Melandru.
The T2 armor looks like the flames of Balthazar, and the mask on the T2 light armor is a reference to Lyssa (though I prefer the Elonian look with the masks on each side of the head)

Maybe grawl are like Dwarves. I always thought Ogden was female after he got bugged out during a gw1 vanquish and kept repeating “How do you know you haven’t already met a female dwarf? Eh? Eh?” and I was like…

Okay.

I get the hint.

As for Tengu, maybe the males are just considered expendable and fit to stand outside the gates. Female Tengu that we’ve met so far in lore have been well respected, so that could have something to do with it.

Why do Sylvari have genders?

in Sylvari

Posted by: Essarious Quw.8946

Essarious Quw.8946

The Sylvari have only been around for 25 years. Some trees and plants take a very long time to start producing flowers and seeds, for example we have fruit trees that are still less than ten years old, and whilst the apples have been producing (very bitter and inedible) fruit since they hit a year old, the pears haven’t even started to flower yet and won’t for another few years.

Maybe the Sylvari just aren’t old enough for their genders to produce offspring.

I am of course ignoring the fact that the world-builders said they can’t, but they recently gave Eir a seventeen year old son out of thin air so they may possibly change their mind on this too :P

Essarious Quw.8946

Before I add to the Cantha thing I just want to say…

Kryta is not like any part of Europe I have ever been to. The attitudes, the atmosphere, the accents (oh why american accents? whyyy?)… its more like an allusion to europe. Similarly compared to other mmos specifically set in China and Asian-themed lands, Cantha always came across as more of an allusion to Kowloon walled city, and for some reason Germany… I don’t get the whole Kurzicks thing but I enjoyed Echovald none the less.

Please bring back Cantha in an expansion to GW2! Elona too if you can, as I always enjoyed Nightfall more, but yeah… don’t neglect them just cos they’re human lands. Do them both in the same expansion if you want to get them out of the way, just please don’t forget about them.

Sylvari True Forms?

in Sylvari

Posted by: Essarious Quw.8946

Essarious Quw.8946

In GW1 there were walking plant monsters in the Maguuma called Thorn Stalkers that have not shown a presence in GW2.

http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Thorn_Stalker

When I first heard that the Sylvari were plant people I thought that they would be related to these somehow. If they do have a “true form”, it would probably look like that.

So this war with the centaurs.....

in Human

Posted by: Essarious Quw.8946

Essarious Quw.8946

It’s kind of a chain thing. When Jormag drove the Norn south, they drove the Centaurs out of the Shiverpeaks, and that’s when they really started to raid Kryta in earnest. There were also Centaur tribes in the Maguuma jungle who were planning to attack the humans in Kryta 250 years ago, but you defeated their leaders for a mission bonus.

Caudecus's Manor (story) is too difficult.

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Essarious Quw.8946

Essarious Quw.8946

If you get a good group where people work together this dungeon is not too bad. The new waypoint thing makes it a bit more annoying than it used to be, but it’s not impossible.

That said it is the dungeon I enjoy the least.

I went on a run yesterday with an incomplete guild party (we had to find two randoms from another guild) and it was horrible. The people we brought in had their own strategy and way of doing things and it wasn’t until the final encounters that they started to fit with us and we worked together as a team.

Please remove the kick skill that all the human npcs have though. For serious that ish gets super old super fast. It’s bad enough dealing with the pull skills in Orr let alone dealing with the kick skills in CM, when the regular separatists in ascalon don’t even have that skill?

It goes both ways. We once had a guildie whose luck was a little too good. His first time in Orr he found Dusk in a chest (and didn’t know what it was so salvaged it), and whenever he went farming sparks he’d leave with ten lodestones in under an hour…

Though because he was so lucky he got into a set routine and anet thought he was a bot so he got banned haha. He lost his passion for the game after that so we haven’t seen him since.

2- Spectral Agony
3- Spectral Agony
4- Spectral Agony
5- Spectral Agony With A Side Of Curses

6- Leave Combat With Adventurers For Five Seconds

7- Summon Jade Bow
8- Summon Jade Hammer
9- Deceive Semi-Important Plot NPC

0- Also Spectral Agony

(You had an option of “Shell Road in Predictable Pattern” as an Elite, but everyone knows that one’s gimp.)

On second thought… balance could be an issue.

Awesomeness hahaha

As much as I hate to admit it, Konig is probably right. Tengu have already had the groundwork laid and they seem like they’d be the easiest to implement. The Largos are just screaming “we are the race opposed to the deep sea dragon”. And as for the Kodan I don’t really see them becoming a race of their own until Jormag is defeated.

As for another race, there are a few that I can see in lore that might be made into a playable race. The Wardens of Cantha (if they still exist) could be an option now that the curse of the Jade Wind is lifting/lifted. Tyrian Centaurs have been painted as a purely evil race but the Centaurs of Elona could be another option if they haven’t been utterly wiped out (knowing Joko that seems like the kind of kitten move he’d pull). The Naga of Cantha could also be another one if they’ve not been wiped out too. They were apparently sentient enough to trade with and share knowledge with the Canthans who lived before the Jade Wind.

Tanks and Healers

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Essarious Quw.8946

The best dungeon runs I’ve been on have two roles that are really important.

The Tactician: Someone who either knows what they are doing or someone that is smart enough to see when terrible things are going to happen. The best Tacticians don’t spoil the surprise for you, but still prevent everyone from wiping due to random events.

The Buffer: Usually a guardian, sometimes a warrior, sometimes a mesmer… someone who can spam as many buffs and boons as possible and is usually quite good at staying alive. Not a tank per se but very wiley.

Tho tbh the Tactician is more important than The Buffer.

If you stand in LA, in the Traders Forum, just outside the Trading Post building, you’ll see these two NPC’s (“Citizen” and “Scholar”). They have a short, but interesting conversation. Any guesses as to what they’re talking about?

Maybe it’s an allusion to the fact that ArenaNet likes to destroy a new landmark with every major content patch? First the statue, then the lighthouse… we’re going to run out of landmarks before the next expansion at this rate haha
