Let’s assume anyone absent from a match for ‘x’ minutes is considered a disconnect and given dishonor regardless of whether they return. What happens to the 9 other people? Are they forced to play out the rest of the match? Should their ratings be adjust still? What about rewards?
How would you suggest expanding AFK detection?
Initial thought is before starting the countdown timer for a match start force players to manually ready up for the map.
So do your match making, where you try and find 10 players of similar ‘quality’, utilize whatever existing logic there is to expand that quality range over time.
Give players X seconds (60 for example), to ready up prior to joining the map. Give players 2 options when requesting ready up, Ready | Cancel. If not all 10 players have readied up to join the map, boot the ones that haven’t, and search for fillers. Don’t allow players that have already been booted/cancelled to be found for the same match, to prevent potential abuse. To avoid syncing, flag players that cancel / are booted for inactivity, and avoid matching them up together in the same matches.
After 10 players ready up, match up the teams based on whatever ‘quality’ balancing logic y’all have.
Finally send them to the map.
What problems do you forsee with this kind of suggestion?
I assumed the OP was talking about intentional in-game AFK, which is much harder to detect. Not starting matches unless 10 people are actively present is another story. It requires a large overhaul to our PvP infrastructure, but it can be done.

Work. Work. Work. Work. Work. China. Work. Work. Work.
No time to discuss, but I still read near every thread.
I really appreciate the work you guys are doing but, if you guys read almost every thread, is it so time consuming to write a couple of words in one thread or two that you wont even bother doing it?
We certainly could be better about mentioning we’ve read a thread. Some people have suggested a red ‘seen by dev’ mark on threads which would awesome. If I were to post something every time I skim through a thread, it would mostly likely just be copy-paste “I’m reading this thread” or “I’m following this thread” which may cause more anger (due to lack of thoughtful response) than appreciation. Community team members are really helpful when relaying information back and forth between devs and players. ( Like Allie :’( )

You get a week or so after the time runs out to reactivate during which you can’t use it. After that it will be deleted forever (you have to buy a starter kit to make another one). You will get warnings in your chat window each time you log in if your custom arena is about to expire. Once expired, the time until deletion will replace the timer in the custom arena editor.
This feature is a little funky due to the availability of the information, but it should always work if you’re in a party. As alemfi said, the right-click join feature exists. You will also get chat links when your party members join a custom arena that you can click on to join.
You guys are da best!
There is currently a bug with all NPC damage in PvP being higher than intended. We are shooting to get this fixed before the Tournament of Legends.

Interesting, thanks for the report!
If your dailies are not completing, it sounds like you joined a custom arena with progression disabled. This happens when the settings stray too far from the standard. You can tell a server is no-progression from the unique symbols in the browser. Using the play-now button should always put you into a progression-enabled server.
Popping in to say we’re still looking into summon damage.
Some of the sigils (like condition duration) work differently now, which is causing the combat reset that happens when you enter spectator mode or when the game prepares to clear internal sigil buffs. Swapping weapons should fix this. We are currently working on a fix for this issue.
It is permanent. The temporary tracks will have timers on them.
Thanks for the report! There are bound to be problems when combining so much functionality that was previously separated. Unfortunately this slipped through
This is getting hotfixed today.
so you still think that the 2 days ban from sPvP is alright? Well that sucks… I thought more people would agree with me on that part.
The length of the dishonorable lockout buff depends on how quickly you accumulate dishonor. It’s like not being able to play as long as you have 3 bleed stacks. You can play as soon as your first 3 day stack wears off, but getting 1 more will lock you out again.
There is a reward track progression cap in custom arenas, but none in solo or team arena. Unfortunately this isn’t clearly messaged. We’re discussing ways to resolve the confusion.
You don’t have to do anything. Your inventory, equipment slots, locker, and account bank will all be cleared upon entering the mists. You’ll need to log into the mists with each character to get anything they are wearing also put in the wardrobe.
Due to our mac client running on cider, I went ahead and implemented the flashing tray functionality. So you may see that in a future patch. Once we can play sounds through a muted client, hopefully no one will miss queue pops anymore.
As it currently stands, the achievement will only progress when soul-binding the actual armor pieces bought from the vendors and not by applying it’s skin. It is possible to make the achievement use skins instead, but there is no plan for it at this very second.
Awww You’re welcome. It was a very fun piece of UI to work on. I’m excited to see how it holds up for the power builders.
Before, you would get new skins in spurts each time you gained 10 ranks, but had diminishing returns very quickly. With rewards tracks you’ll get consistent skin unlocks via random drops (mob loot) and through specific weapon-choice boxes. It is true some things will be leaving PvP like cultural sets on the glory vendor, but since they only cost gold, you can go buy them with your PvP earnings.
i understand this part:
“With rewards tracks you’ll get consistent skin unlocks via random drops (mob loot)”people will now drop loot in pvp? OR you talk bout this svanir mobs ? Or you call minions from necro mob? Would be nice when they drop now loot from his master – could be nice fix for minion master ^^
The rewards from the reward tracks are meant to simulate mob drops. You’re getting items in the form of bouncy chests at the end of matches still. For instance, progressing region-themed tracks will give you items that the mobs from those regions drop.
Since the bouncy chests are back, does this mean if you transfer from one region tothe other will they break like they did last time?
No, the rewards are immediate and persist directly on your account.
Long term goals aren’t a bad thing. Even after the re-balance, it will take the average player a very long time to reach 80 and will still be the long term goal for most people.
It’s important to have goals for different time commitments. Short term goal could be reward tracks or some skins. Medium term goals could be season rewards and a ladder. Long terms goals could be a legendary, rank 80 (for most people) or possibly multi-season rewards and yearly tournaments.
What kind of long-term rewards would people like to see? Maybe a rank 80 ‘prestige’ system is something to explore.

What happens to the skins already equipped in sPvP? Should I unequip before the patch or will they safely transfer over as well?
You do not need to unequip or move anything.

1) If you remove your armor, you will lower your defense.
2) Because new characters may not have helm, glove, or shoulder pieces, any already hide-able armor slot will always be added into your defense even if you don’t have one equipped.
Dupes will do nothing more than a single wardrobe unlock. The transmutation charges you’ll get on April 15th will be based on your new PvP rank and not based on items.
What about dupes of gemstore items?
You should submit a ticket to CS and ask for a refund for duplicate armor sets.
Yeah we should do that. ‘/rank #’
We can’t support GW1 style observer mode and recordings yet due to the fact we use Havok. The simulations are not deterministic so we have to figure out a way around that first. Basically, its way harder to do in GW2 than GW1.
If you make it possible we’ll each send you a batch of cookies – that’s a lot of cookies!
I look forward to the day.

Some maths for errbody:
For a new player to get from 1→80 with the new numbers:
Fastest: 729 team arena wins with full time rewards.
Slowest: 5467 custom arena losses with full time rewards.

Ok so I am a little confused and wondering can someone help me out?..
Well mainly I am wondering what will happen to say rank 45 and such? I know you said rank 50 and up will go to dragon does that Rank 40 will go to Phoenix or no? Are you just pushing up rank 50s and making the rest lvl like normal?
Some type of answer to this would really be helpful. Thanks in advance.
Rank ~45 will go to ~52. Ranks 39→54 got rebalanced to be linear 39→80.
Administrators never made it into custom arenas, sorry. Still planned for the future though!
I mispoke about the achievements, they have been rebalanced as well.
… store far less data inside templates when those happen.
THIS excites me
Are we going to be able to store templates? That would really be a big big step!
No ETA on templates. However, the new build tech brings us muuuuch closer than before.
Did it say in the ready up if the pvp armor and weapons being currently worn are converted too or do those also have to go in the locker?
Everything you’re wearing, have in your inventory, locker, and account bank will all be converted/removed.
You will only get a chest per rank to 81. You will not get more than (81 – current rank) chests.

We wanted to make build crafting much easier than it currently is on live. Part of this was removing underwater items from PvP. Only one map had underwater combat, but required you to consider up to 6 more build pieces (Helm, rune, 1-2 weapons + 1-2 sigils). Not only will the removal of Capricorn simplify build-making, it means that we have to store far less data inside templates when those happen.
All PvP items will be unlocked as skins in the wardrobe AND deleted.
Soooooo…
Are PvP rank finishers going away, or what?
I understand that everyone is gonna get boosted a few ranks up, but I’m not sure should I grind PvP to secure the next rank’s finisher or can I safely assume I’ll be able to get it (and further ones) after April 15
Clarification would be nice, since the blog post doesn’t explain skritt..
You’ll still get the rank emote unlocks.
Player’s don’t need to do anything with their items. Everything in your equip slots, inventory, locker, and bank will all be stripped upon logging in and unlocked in the wardrobe.
what if i happen to have a greatsaw greatsword skin on my bank, will that be stripped and put into my locker so i cant sell it anymore?
i also would be very interested in an answer to this question. i seriously hope that sellable skins will not be put into the wardrobe. if so i might have to park everything in the tp for unreasonable prices.
PvP only items are the ones getting stripped. That means things in the locker, or any item obtained through PvP. None of those can be sold.

When you enter the Heart of The Mists for the first time after the April 2014 Feature Pack goes live, all of the skins you have collected in PvP will unlock in your Wardrobe. There will be a vendor selling basic, level-appropriate weapons and armor for you to apply unlocked skins to.
What is the point of these “basic” armor/weapons if looks carry over from pve and vice versa? You have to apply the pvp skins to them first to unlock them?
The wardrobe is only for appearances, it does not contain usable items. If you’ve never played PvE, or for some reason don’t have actual items to apply skins to, you can get them from the vendor.
I noticed this too on the livestream, but an educated guess would be that the PvP Build button just expands a window for you to place a sigil, a single rune and amulet. And if you needed to quickly change stats, all you would to do is modify those few slots.
They mentioned that you can’t mix runes anymore in the live stream, you just simply place one rune and it applies it to all 6 armors.
Called it!

We can’t hide it any longer! I can’t wait to show it off today on Ready Up. Its so shiny I love it.
