PoF: Top 10 WvW Guild Reference

Pretty interesting list.

I wasn’t surprised to see [KEK] and [BoRP] on this list, they definitely made names for themselves (not that this list in particular matters, but still, good for them).

I am surprised however to see different guilds from different time-zones on this list, I think it would have been more appropriate to rank guilds by timezone because there are so many other guilds worth mentioning not just for NA, but for OCX, SEA, and EU.

My top 10 would be as follows for NA WvW fight guilds specifically:

1 – JQ – [SF] – always challenging whether they have 20 in squad or 50.
2 – SoS -[BnR] – we miss scrimming / open fielding you guys .. come back bbs.
3 – YB – [BOO] – always down to brawl and GvG, healthy roster, competitive fights.
4 – YB – [TDS] – they always comeback swinging, fun, competitive, respectable fights.
5 – JQ – [BoRP] – less frequent fights from them than the guilds above, but good fights / GvG none-the-less.
6 – JQ – [OnS] – they have had highs and lows but have molded into a competitive guild that’s really fun to fight and scrimmage with, glad to see you guys doing well.
7 – DB – [RED] – they probably have the biggest pair of balls in NA honestly, always a good fight, reminds me of the old-melee train days fighting them.
8 – NSP – [TW] – as much as they’re memed it’s a challenge fighting their public tag + their private tag together, good old fashioned WvW fights from them and their revs pack quite a punch if you’re not mindful of them.
9 – SBI – [DOC][CCCP][KRTA] – fun to fight alone, but way more fun to fight when you’re all together.
10 – BG – [RISE] – all around fun guild to fight, I think we all like to get under Jarvan’s skin once in a while but at the end of the day it’s Jarvan and we love him, they came a long way and are a competent opponent.

Honorable Mentions:

Mag – [KEK] – don’t get to run into them that often, but the few times we’re brawled they’re honestly the best guild NA and they let you know it .. always pounding away.

Mag – [VR] – don’t run into them much but they’re a good fight.

DB – [TBT] – they’re recruiting.

Both KEK and VR can and do dumpster every guild you suggested. I’m honestly not sure if you’re trying to trigger people here or what but putting DOCCCPKRTA on a top ten list and leaving those two guilds as “honorable mentions” is pretty funny.

Your response really isn’t warranted in this thread, we’re not talking about “dumpstering guilds” on the list, we’re listing the top 10 WvW guilds based on many different criteria. In my list KEK and VR are not in my top 10 simply because I haven’t crossed paths with the guilds nearly as much as I have others; this can be due to queue locks, match-ups, or different raid days & times.

Perhaps another poster will satisfy you by mentioning [VR] or [KEK] in their top 10, oh wait, the OP did already.

Top ten based on what criteria then? You literally said KEK is the best out there yet it doesn’t make your top ten :thonking:

We have a fairly comprehensive weighting scheme that includes guild size, preferred playstyle, usual composition, average lights felt per minute, amount of siege usage, player hygiene, driver skill, and overall PvF proficiency.

Unfortunately, this is a pretty sensitive formula that we use internally to get a better feel on matchup outcomes, so we can’t really provide it publicly without redacting most of the weights. Feel free to ask questions about the analysis scheme or general implementation though!

Gliding for me tips WvW into a two tier game mode. Before we had runes, sigils, wep and armor recipies, provisioner, gennies, elite specs…all tied to HoT ownership. I have HoT and non-Hot accounts and, until gliding, I didn’t feel too disadvantaged when playing my non-HoT account. Now I do. It’s not always a huge advantage. In fact, in a straight line, you’re faster on the ground. But, in too many areas of Alpine & Desert (not tried EB), it saves HoT owners significant travel time over non-Hot owners. Less travel time, more do-something-useful time. I don’t want it to go but I don’t like it being tied to a monetary purchase in a competitive game mode.

Unless you play guardian, you’re already essentially a waste of space if you don’t have HoT, so this is a nonissue.

Illusionary Ambush and Mirage Advance

The general policy for stunbreaks is that there should be 1 per class of utility skills. This isn’t 100%, as seen in mirror images and decoy, but it’s pretty close. It holds true for the mirage skills as well, so 1 is a stunbreak.

Pretty sure Ineptitude is a lot better than Mistrust. From Mistrust you only had 1 condition and can be condi cleansed easily, now you have two conditions and Blind is a pretty strong condition too. Also it compliments well with Blinding Dissipation, so just shattering you can immediately get a blind and 2 stacks of confusion.

Well I just dropped a Gravity well on a group and got 4 interrupts. Usually that would be 16 stacks of AoE confusion onto the four people within range of each other. But with this new trait it was, err, 2 stacks each and a blind. It feels a lot worse.

Mistrust was better when fighting garbage groups that don’t know how to use stability. Against everyone else…

How did everyone get so much WXP?

The simple answer is that they play more than you. Hours in → ranks out. People that have more time to play will end up at a higher rank, it’s pretty straightforward.

How neat would it be if Jaunt also worked like Axe3, detargets and moves all illusions to closest enemy. Then even power builds could use it.

Nah. Sword #3 please…

Imagine if sword 3 detargets you from all opponents, forces your targeted opponent to retarget the clone and gives the clone 1s blur on spawning. :o

Maybe a bit crazy but kitten that would be sweet.

Detarget is a mirage thing and should stay that way, but sword 3 definitely should gain the ability to retarget illusions.

Let me put it simply: properly played mesmer with a proper build will have no trouble in the HoT maps. If you are having trouble with dying, it’s not because of weak heals, it’s because either you are playing poorly or you’re using a bad build. This isn’t complicated.

Axe 3, at least in raids, will allow mesmer to have reasonable dps in quite a few more of the fights where they now have issues with getting phantasms set up on new targets. It won’t be a magic bullet that makes mesmer excellent dps, but it’ll enable you to actually do dps on many more fights. This should work on VG, gorse, sabetha, potentially samarog, and potentially deimos.

But Axe3 only make your Axe clones retarget, not phantasms, not clones using other weapons.

How useful is that in raid?

It is not like i need a new build…i was fine for 3 years with my mesmer….and i have changed my build depending of my playstyle…..and i liked him the way he was…but now that i have gotten 3 ascended armor pices + 2 ascended rings / earrings…..it WAS easy for me….and it was fun….but after the patch i tested ALL my builds….and all have the same Probleme: i have no good self heal anymore…..so i am seriously thinking of trying out my lvl 80 thief ( and yes you read it right: trying out…i just used the lvl 80 boost on him (when i bought HoT…used the boost instantly) , because he took a place in my bank…. but after watching the videos from the new elites…well some other elites are more my taste XD but i dont have another booster….also: i dont have any map progression / story played….it is…well just a lvl 80 char in the starting area…XD Also i have problems with really thinking of giving up on my only real main char just because anet nerved the heal…..to the ground….1 of my builds is well…some sort of good…it already was a hit and run build…but the heal is really missing…maybe a druid as pet that heals me XD?….ok joking….i am still testing…also an english guide is hard for me…since english is NOT my main language…also a guide for someone wich has played since 3 years, already read a ton of guides…is not really needed…but thanks for trying to help me out, that means a lot for me….but in the moment i really just wanna now how i could find more heal without changing so much…i mean i have crafted some of my ascended gear…and bring my tailor to lvl 500….it was hard….and i dont know if i have the power to begin from the start….but thank you….really…maybe i am just to negative to all these downgrades to our healing skills….maybe…

I’ve literally never had an issue with mesmer heals. This is either a problem with your build or a problem with your play. I’ve always used the well heal and had no problems. Likewise, I haven’t carried a ranged weapon into PvE in probably over a year, full melee on every single game encounter as a mesmer is extremely reasonable.

Why do people use focus in open world? If you’re chrono, you don’t need speed, warden is absolutely terrible, only pull is good but not needed in most cases.

I run s/sh + gs myself. Shield is far superior to focus imo, since it actually has decent damage and aoe, it has cc and #4 is nice defensive skill that also produces clone or two for shattering.
GS is nice for aoe and because you can quickly find yourself in dangerous situation where you have to back off a bit and having range weapon is good for that, since you can keep attacking, unlike with another melee offhand where you then have to dance around waiting for heal and skills to recharge.

The focus has the fantastic pull and an AOE phantasm with immob. It’s far better than the greatsword because there’s literally zero situations where you can’t safely go melee as mesmer. You’re completely wrong when you say you can quickly find yourself in a dangerous situation where you need to back off — mesmer can handle any situation with ease at melee range.

But won’t you be chrono for every group encounter that matters? I feel like mirage is, by default, doomed to be an open world or solo spec.

DPS Condie mesmer doesn’t use chrono.

If that GM trait “Ineptitude” get a reduction of interval of 10s to 5s, it is will a good GM Traits, while now is not good, x2 confusion each 10s when you inflict blind… is long timer and not utility. Neither is not good, when that you interrupt a foe, inflict blind… on pve is bad, cant interrupt a boss champion…

The necro have a GM trait more good that “Ineptitude”, the necro can inflict x1 burning each 3s when inflict torment, and also increase the damage of torment is increase.

There’s no timer afaik.

Perma retal again … a certain immortal build of old got nerfed in large part due to that …
Not complaining though

We had perma retaliation for ages at the nerf, that’s not what made the build strong. The key was permanent retaliation on phantasms too, and that’s never been achievable in a realistic fashion since then. Plus, retal and confusion both got heavily nerfed, damage output has been drastically buffed, and sustain has been heavily buffed. It’s nice to reminisce about the immortal mesmer, but it wouldn’t hold up very well in today’s environment.

With dodge jumps you travel more distance because dodging is faster that walking.
It’s like jumping with swiftness or superspeed. It will get you further than jumping normally.

Exactly, which is why dodge jumping doesn’t make a difference if you do have swiftness. And mirage gets superspeed when dodging.

Isnt dodge supposed to root you for the dur?

Did some1 already ask the actual most important question? What is with dodge jump? As I recall ‘dodge jump’ jumps a bit higher than normal jump (at least that’s what we figured when doing the adventure box thingy). So will ‘mirage cloak jump’ also jump higher?

It goes farther than a normal dodge, it doesn’t go higher than a normal jump.

Still tho iirc dodge jump helps you get to various kiting spots in pvp does this ean that mirage will just suck at it now?

Mirage should be able to straight up jump and dodge in midair while jumping. It’ll be way easier.

While i was looking on guides for propper kiting and repositioning in pvp the guide said alot of jump just aint possible without the added distance of the dodgejump. Thats whay im curious about does this mean no longer dostance boost by dodgejumping?

I’m pretty certain that dodge jumping doesn’t give a distance gain over normal jumping. It protects the jump and gives a distance gain over dodging.

Then why would ppl use dodge jump skips in Sab which the normal jump cant reach?

Hey Pyro – where does the boon strip that you mentioned come from?

As primarily a roamer / small scale wvw player, I’m thinking a lot about the lack of the passive run speed from Chrono.

It still seems like Trailblazers will be great gear if you need a healthy amount of defense playing Mirage.

For small scale, run speed is definitely a consideration. For groups, if you don’t have swiftness something has gone terribly wrong.

In any case, the boon strip will come either domination shatters, null field, or pDisenchanter. The options will vary depending on the group comp and the flavor of build you choose to play, but it shouldn’t be hard to work at least one of them into almost any mirage setup.

Do you seriously believe that Elite Spec’s Mechanics are going to fly? Seriously ask yourselves.

Well… considering that there is another class which had this mechanic still launch and had it repeatedly buffed despite having a plethora of engage and escape options even outside of their ambush (and we don’t even get constant stealth), I’d say… yeah?

Mirage is a phantasm build?

Its hard to tell where everything will fall in PvP but I don’t really see Mirage being better. You are giving up Alacrity and Continuum shift making our elites usable, illusion generation and the defense of shield for a few more stacks of Confusion and torment that is probably going to be nerfed anyway.

I have a feeling that good players are going to be able to use the mobility and offensive pressure of Mirage in a pretty devastating way for PvP. Mirage has a powerful elite that doesn’t need CS, and alacrity has never been a huge factor in PvP builds since well-tank got nerfed. You’ll lose defense from shield, but gain defensive capability from the de-targeting mechanics and strong mobility.

Illusions are useless in group WvW, you know this.

I always theorycraft my WvW setups without counting illusions. Mirage looks like a very possible choice for a good DPS/utility slot in WvW group compositions. It brings good aoe condie pressure just from its skills, powerful defensive mechanics, and still can do shenanigans like aoe boonstrip (as if you need anything but a spellbreaker for that :rollseyes:) and distortion share.

I saw you mentioned cc stuff like being chilled or slowed count tho? Because in pve i can deploy glider and move away.

Well no one has asked about it yet, but I’m going to guess that the new War Gliding Mastery is going to also include unlocks for some sort of skills you can use while gliding like in Bloodstone Fen.

I assume it’ll unlock normal gliding stuff like lean techniques, etc.

If the new elite spec isn’t good at DPS, then it’s a trash build for a raid. Not every spec is meant to be used in every part of the game, that’s just how it works in reality.

Well Chrono has a role as support in raids and and condi spam in PVP

Mirage and base Mesmer has a role nowhere. I don’t think its too much to ask that one of them be useful in the biggest part of the game or anywhere really.

Mirage should easily outclass chrono in PvP and WvW roaming. Mirage also looks like it’ll be a strong choice for condie DPS and support I’m WvW group compositions.

Base mesmer is hosed, but so is base everything else, so…

WHAT WILL HAPPEN IF YOU ARE IN COMBAT? Disable in combat gliding. Otherwise it means anyone can run away from a fight by just gliding away and literally makes HoT Pay-to-win. Seriously. It NEEDS to be disabled to deploy gliding while in combat. Seriously. This is why gliding in WvW has always been the stupidest idea.

I don’t think you have the strongest grasp of how gliding works. If they try and run away by gliding off a cliff, just toss out a little cc and watch them fall to death, lmfao.

When cced, you can’t enter the glider in PvE maps, not sure exactly how it’ll act in WvW.

solo chrono support build in LW season 3

For most of the LS, I used full commander’s with sw/sh+f. Standard raid setup of domination, inspiration, chrono with heal well, action, recall, SoI, and time warp. I soloed the caudecus instance with no difficulty, so there’s that. I didn’t do the Draconis mons boss instance solo, but it was fairly easy. I also didn’t do the new Orr instance solo, but again it was fairly easy. Not sure how easy it would be to do the timed achievement in that last one on solo mes, but it would easily be completable otherwise.

From what I saw in the video. There’s a second mechanic with the weird crystal thing. You conjure the crystal and that empowers using the Ambush mechanic.

It appears that hitting the crystal causes the same effect that dodging does.

Mesmer in PvP is primarily limited to condie shatter with chronomancer. It’s a solid setup if you play it well.

Mesmer in open world pve is whatever. Mesmer in fractals and raids is a support class playing chronomancer that buffs the party with quickness and alacrity. Condie mesmer can be used decently on a couple of the raid bosses, but is garbage outside of that. Vanilla mesmer is only used for that condie mesmer setup, it’s awful in just about every single other situation in the game.

To be clear, I don’t think the condie application that we’ve seen so far even flirts with op, especially considering how potent the condie application of classes is already. What WP did to the target golem was rather unimpressive by the standard of target golem condie loading, any good condie class would blow that out of the water. The strong aspects of mirage are the retargeting and detarget with the extra mobility. That one stunbreak on dodge trait is busted too.

Most thief burst is targeted, with the exception of vault spammers.

And they can do the same to us with stelath. The relative ease of clone production vs Phantasm will help with all thier dodges and you are right that blur is better then blocks.

Sure they can avoid direct attacks with stealth, but thief damage revolves around landing high intensity hits, not a continual spray of damage. If both combatants manage to avoid most targeted hits, the thief will still die and the mesmer will be fine.
