Last night I tried with about 5/6 other people to defeat the group event pirate (forgot his name) on Laughing Gull Island in Bloodtide Coast and we got completely… well. owned by this guy. I ended up having to pay 7 something silver for repair bills.
But that’s beside the point, Just now I got unto the game and the Pirate guy was there (again/still) but this time a lot of people were fighting him 10+ so I joined in right at the start almost and we beat him. I got a gold medal that give about 1 silver something yet he didn’t drop any loot?
People in map chat said there is meant to be a chest and all of us looked all over the ship from top to bottom with no sight of any chest. So I don’t know if this is a bug or not but you’d expect with the difficulty of the fight (He’s tougher than some explorable dungeon bosses) the reward would be a lot better than 1 silver…

LFG type mechanics generally sticks you with the worst kind of people and there’s nothing you can do about it. Where as in a guild you know what people are like and if you act badly there are consequences.
If you aren’t interested in joining a guild (which seems odd seeing as this is a MMO). You can ask at the dungeon entrance (a lot of people do) you can tell from the way they ask for groups what they are generally like. Then if someone did really well in your group you can add them to your contact list and whisper them for future dungeon grouping.
The way it is now is perfect because people will have to do their best and behave maturely or nobody invites them to parties again and they will get a bad name. It builds a better community where being respectful is rewarded and encouraged. LFG allows people to get away with anything especially if it’s game wide. It breeds immature selfish and trolling behaviour.
This is a MMO, Socialise, make contacts, join a guild. That’s what they are there for. It’s easy to find groups when you are in a decent size guild.

I don’t mind the idea of multiple guilds it’s just that there should be some sort of restriction between swapping between them.

I’d say no to mounts, The only way I think it’s acceptable is for them to be used in cities only as a vanity thing. (Similar to towns clothing) and no faster than a speed boost. I wouldn’t mind that as an Aesthetic/Fun sort of thing. I definitely wouldn’t want to see them out in the world though it would completely ruin game play.

Actually Mesmers can heal, If you put 20 points in Inspiration you can pick the trait ‘Heal allies when you cast a mantra’ if you then for example pick ‘Mantra of Recovery’ every time you finish channelling that ability it will heal allies for a decent bit when they are close enough to you.
I’ve been using this setup in dungeons. You also get ‘Phantasms grant regeneration to nearby allies’ in that same trait line. Haven’t gotten to the 30 point traits yet. Regardless they are able to heal somewhat.

Well I think you want to be able to distinguish them between Ranger pets and Mini pets and that’s why they are small or as the name says ‘Mini’ :P

I’ve been playing a Mesmer as my main since BWE1 and they are right to say that Mesmer’s are squishy and do less damage than most professions. This profession is very much skill based. I wouldn’t recommend it to someone whose new to MMO’s or are below average in general gaming skills.
That said, I also find it the most rewarding profession, Because you are squishy and do medium damage there is a lot of moving about involved to keep yourself from being killed. Dodging, kiting, slowing the enemy down. It’s all about control, support while you and your friends do the damage.
You’re constantly on the move making last minute decisions on using abilities. As a lot of the abilities of a Mesmer are very situational you have to think on your feet a lot. This is also what makes the Mesmer so fun to play. Just standing there casting a couple of abilities or steam waltzing over mobs is not what I enjoy.
As fun as it is to feel all powerful. I find it more fun to really work for my kills and be buzzing about like a bee who drank too much nectar. I’ve always preferred playing the difficult professions in games because I like the challenge and the Mesmer satisfies that need.
So if you really want to push your gaming skills and want a challenge that’s rewarding and fun Mesmers are certainly worth the try. If you like to be more casual and relaxed in playstyle then probably not.
As for tips, That’s another thing about the Mesmer there are so many ways of playing one, many weapon set combinations, trait builds. There isn’t really a right way of playing one. All I can say is to try all weapon combinations and then depending on how you play the game your traits. Whatever works for you, Works for you.
My setup is: Greatsword & Scepter/Focus. I’m traiting heavily in Domination and Inspiration. Some in Illusions. My gear is mostly Power and Condition Damage based. Hope that helps

Think it’s the one on the left with the instruction manual :P Any way the video makes me laugh and I think of it every time the game breaks and makes the time waiting not so bad as it’s funny imagining them over there like this yip yip.
