Everything is still open for changes though but I think it’s kinda lame if they do get it because Moa is a unique Mesmer skill and AOE is much stronger too – At least make it some kind of other transform that’s not Moa -_-

I ran my ye olde phantasm build and I actually had a lot of success with it. It was ideal for spiking the NPC down quickly and thanks to the bridges and ledges there were some really good blink spots, and the reflects are great thanks to all the archers. Plus everyone tends to be more spread out so I didn’t run into the issue of being overwhelmed by AOE/conditions as much and the tight areas seem to all have good retreat spots.

This build might not be entirely min-max sound but since nobody knows the new meta for this game mode I figured I’d throw this out there in the sense of getting people thinking about phantasm again, trying out such builds. I can see it having potential in this map but it’s hard to say without playing with and against experienced PvPers in an organized setting where everyone knows how the map works.

Firstly, I think you’re referring to the other Fay. Secondly, I can barely understand what you said there. Maybe you should be the one separated from everyone else in your very own designated server for people whose English is partly unintelligible.

Everyone on that server will be unable to talk so that nobody can bother and offend you with their horrible foreign tongues. Sounds like a great solution to me, perhaps you did have a good point all along! That way the rest of us don’t have to put up with people like you who complain about being subjected to other languages in a multi-lingual world.

Being respectful of other cultures and languages doesn’t make it about ‘social justice’ it’s about common sense and mutual respect. Since when is being respectful of others before expecting respect back considered a somehow appalling or bad concept.

I guess if being respectful is considered some kind of ‘yucky social justice’ thing I’d rather be labeled as such than BE the kind of person who considers courtesy as a ‘yucky social justice’ thing or whom considers themselves as being so much better and superior because of the random sounds expelled from ones throat being different.

English is superior, most folk in europe know english, like it or not it’s the most common tongue. And not all of us who speak english are from the uk. There are other countries in europe, believe it or not. I don’t see any french, german or spanish person trying to speak norwegian, or bulgarian or any other of them other “lesser” languages. And those folk already did their bit and learned english. Now they have to learn spanish, and french and german cause god forbit the spaniards, the germans and the french learn anything other than their native languages. So it’s not MY language they have to learn, but A language that the rest of europe uses to communicate. Unless of course everyone not french, german or spanish is beneath them or something. In which case they should get their own server and not mingle with us peasants from the rest of europe.

That doesn’t make it ‘superior’ that just makes it more commonly used. Superior indicates it being better than, which it is not, just different. There is a vast difference between superior and more commonly used.

I sincerely dislike it when people who complain about and look down their nose at other languages and cultures as if they expect everyone else to speak the same as them just because theirs is the most popular and therefore ‘superior’.

Less popular languages are just as valid as English. It doesn’t take that much effort to google translate simple phrases. You’re part of a multi-lingual world, it’s important to be respectful of other peoples languages and it’s only sensible to approach another person by speaking their language rather than expecting them to speak yours. It just comes down to respect.

I think it’s discourteous to expect everyone to heel to your own language ‘just’ because it’s the most popular. Excuses like “Oh because they do x y z too” just falls short for me. Learn to get along, and that goes for all sides, it’s not that hard if people weren’t so stubborn and acted so superior.

If you want people to try to speak your language to you when they approach you, you should do the same in return to begin with, eye for an eye.

Or… you could, you know, try not to see English as being so superior? If it bothers you so much, learn some phrases in those languages instead of expecting them to do so. They have no obligation to learn your language so if YOU want to speak to THEM the courteous thing to do is to learn their language. Not the other way around, IMO.

You can only play Stronghold for a little while, where as GTAV will be launched so there will be plenty of time to play it (although it’s probably going to be bug ridden). I’m looking forward to playing GTAV but I wouldn’t say it’s a priority over a short term beta test… At least it should be a no brainer unless you just simply prefer playing those games over trying the Stronghold test which is just a matter of preference.

Thanks for the support! We have already got a couple of great mesmers on board but I’m hoping to get at least a few more. So… any mesmers on here who know a thing or two or have a good build, don’t feel shy to PM me. Even if you’re fairly new and just want a place to host your builds we’re happy to oblige (Provided the builds are good of course).

I’m currently in the process of doing some of the more lengthier/difficult code and art work but some of the design work is already up there for those curious.

Giving the passive animals more advanced animations and scripts would cause a lot more lag probably, I much rather have a game that runs smoother…. Plus, Guild Wars 2 isn’t exactly the most realistic of games so I wouldn’t expect realism in any sense of the word.

To be honest, GW2 does a better job with it’s passive animals than in half of the other MMO’s I played where animals AND mobs just stand completely still or are animated very badly. I do agree they could be better though I just don’t find it as important as optimization.

Most of the time I don’t even notice them, they just become background ambiance and I stop noticing their rudimentary animations/behavior. This is kind of what they’re intended to be, in the background, as a part of a bigger picture, not the focus of peoples attention.

WoW has added that with every single expansion. 8-10 dungeons, with an equal number of hard modes, the hard modes having significantly different mechanics. They also usually add more than 3 raids. See:

Yes, but not in one go they spread it out over several releases within an expansion, spanning two or so years. If people are expecting to find that much the second the expansion comes out then they are probably going to be disappointed. Maybe in time they’ll add that much but we’ll see. I just made a point of that in case some people actually expected that much content on release.

An expansion should not just be an equivalent of combined living story episodes. We get those for free… and the expansion has a price tag associated with it.

Except that people are missing the point where you have been getting almost an expansion worth of content since launch for FREE where as normally in every other MMO you would have had to pay for it. Arenanet is still a business, they do have to make money somehow to keep working on GW2. Gemstore items alone are not going to give them enough money in the long run to sustain their business, you have to be realistic here.

GW2’s payment system is already one of the most generous I’ve ever seen in the MMO genre… Some people are just never happy unless they get everything for free. The talented people who work on GW2 spend thousands of hours making it, should they not be paid to provide you with this entertainment and artistic talent?

It baffles me when people complain about having to pay for a GW2 expansion after I spend almost 6k hours playing this game which is a major bargain compared to most other games that you pay the same amount for and finish in a couple of days at most….

Like Evolve is a prime example of an expensive game that has very little content nor much replay value or what about The Sims where you have to pay a chunk of money for tiny expansions and have to rely on mods to get worthwhile play time out of it.

People who play GW2 and complain about having to pay for an expansion have some serious tunnel vision going on and seem to be completely oblivious to the rest of the gaming industry. Criticism of the game is all well and good, to each their own but I don’t think it’s fair to complain about having to pay for this expansion.

I think the desert has it’s own type of beauty in it’s desolation and lack of life, yet if you look closely you’ll find things living there. I think all those new desert maps have it’s own kind of beauty. I also think EOTM is a pretty map.

I think this is more a matter of personal taste rather than anything to do with map design because they did a good job at conveying those type of natural areas.

I personally think some of the original maps are uglier like Fields of Ruins and Harathi Hinterlands.

A real expansion is NOT just a bunch of LS bundled together. A real expansion has 10-12 dungeons, 2-3 raids, new activities, new races, new classes, new skills, new features, new stories and new zones. The LS component SHOULD just be a small part of a full expansion. THAT is what people have been asking for.

So far there is not enough information to state for certain which way this “expansion” will go, but based on all their qualifiers, and “this will come after the launch of the expansion” talk I can understand peoples apprehensions.

Well since we don’t know what all we’re going to be getting yet, I think it’s a bit early to assume that all we’re getting is LS,… I hope.

Also, not to mention that I don’t know of any expansion that added 12 dungeons and 3 raids, that’s crazy! What game did you play that added that many?! I think 2-5 dungeons and 1-2 raids and a handful of zones is more the average amount of content that is released in expansions in the MMO’s I’ve played in.

I think 12 dungeons and 3 raids is not at all a realistic expectation. I’d love to know what MMO has done that and how much time there was between expansions for that to happen. That sounds like at least 3-5 years worth of design work.

Myself and Pyro have begun the process of updating the Mesmer Guides website so it will not be functional for the time being. This means that if you visit it right now it will likely look wonky and completely unfinished, this is because I’ve only just begun working on shaping it for our purpose.

I have setup a Twitter, Facebook, and Google+ account for it and I will be posting occasional updates on the website building progress on there. After the website has been completed we will be linking the latest guides, builds, and mesmer news that we post on our website on those social media platforms so that you can more easily keep on top of the latest goodies if you follow us:

The purpose and goal of the website is to provide an easy platform for experienced mesmers and theorycrafters to publish their builds, videos, and general mesmer information in a shared space. This will make it easier for everyone in the mesmer community to find quality information about our profession and keep track of the latest and greatest developments.

We felt this was especially important because, although the official forums make a good place for mesmer discussion, it is not designed to be a place that allows us to gather and organize information. Although the Wikipedia accomplishes this to an extend, it does not have the added and valuable experience that the mesmers in our community can offer through explanation and videos.

I will still work on this build list of course but I can’t guarantee it will be as up-to-date as this website will be as it will be just me updating it and I’m terrible for getting distracted with shinies.

Actually, scrap the part about re-adding old build topics. Instead it would be better if theorycrafters could start new topics, if they want to re-vamp old builds.

The reason for that is because people will have left a lot of posts on those build pages over the years that might now be widely outdated (if things do change that much… probably not lol) and could confuse newcomers as well as detract from the revamped build discussion.

I mean, I will of course add old build threads if they’ve been updated/still valid and are good but it would be preferable if you could all start afresh for the sake of not adding unnecessary confusion surrounding your build. All this depends on what happens of course, if not much changes I might just edit the build list to include updated builds and/or just the good builds, we will have to see.

I’m still lurking! I’ve just been burned out with actually playing the game after thousands of hours… that expansion can’t happen soon enough! HYPE!

It would make sense if they invited a handful of new players just to get a sense of how confusing the new stuff would be to newer players.

However, I’d imagine the vast majority will have been randomly drawn from a pool of players who have been playing longer.

They probably shouldn’t have said loyal though. That word is very loaded and people get hung up over it instead of taking on board the actual message/intend. They probably didn’t expect that word to have such an effect on people.

I will completely restart the list from scratch once the expansion has been released. All the builds listed on there right now will probably, mostly, still apply to a lesser or greater extend, or perhaps with a minor tweak.

Maybe a couple of things are missing but now that we know there are bigger changes coming our way (hopefully) there isn’t really any point in updating the list as it might be invalidated with the arrival of the expansion, we don’t know how things will change with the Revenant on board and the shield thing.

However, once it’s released it’ll be the theorycrafters time to shine if things do change as I will be compiling any new builds that come out and any out of date builds will be put to rest unless the build creators update their builds/topics appropriately in a timely fashion, in which case they will be re-added. I just thought it would be a good time to restart the list really….

I’m also planning on revamping the mesmer guides website that I’ve been admittedly completely neglecting (i.e. never finished). It’s just that the infrastructure of that website that I made from scratch ended up being way too much work to work with in a reasonable fashion and so I was going to have to start all over again and I just kept postponing doing so, sorry!

It looks like it’s having a seizure to me rapidly blinking between connection error and the download bar. It doesn’t seem to be going anywhere any time soon in general.

Could always name a random asura NPC Nimmoy would follow asura naming convention and wouldn’t be immersion breaking.

Adopt a Newbie Welcome Committee!

With the big sale happening this weekend (And a while after) there is no doubt that a lot of new players will jump into the game for the very first time. It can be quite daunting to start up in a new MMO where newbies are frequently made fun off in others game.

But one of Guild Wars 2’s strong points has always been it’s great and helpful community and I think this is the perfect opportunity to demonstrate that in a big way by welcoming newcomers with open arms.

So, I figured it would be nice if some of us veterans were to hang out in the starting zones to welcome and assist new players with any questions they might have. You could even find a newbie to adopt and level up with them using an alt so they wouldn’t have to play alone.

Anyway, I’ve done this before when there was a sale and the good response I had from doing so made me decide to do this again with this sale and I was hoping to encourage more veterans to do the same by posting these suggestions here
