Yes, stop playing! Get a wrist guard of some sort and rest your arm. Alternatively you can always try using just your mouse to play in the mean time? You won’t be able to do anything intense but most content should be doable. There is even a dodge button above your HP that you can press to dodge and you can keybind auto-run to your mouse so you can toggle that on/off to move.

I was glancing over the topic names and the name of that thread didn’t match the words I was looking for in regards to the problem. For some reason I only really associate ‘Timestamp’ with chat messaging. Might be because I’m not a native English speaker

I’ve added the builds and re-adjusted the list a bit for everything to fit. I was planning to go through all the builds to try to weed out all the outdated threads but there is an issue with the forum dates which makes it near impossible to discern when something has been posted/edited so I will have to have a closer look to see if I can figure it out on a later date. If you notice any problems please let me know

This means that the post is from last year not this year. I started to notice the problem when it said on other posts that it was posted on a certain date but last edited months ago. This makes it difficult/impossible to discern whether something was posted this year or last year. I think it would help if the year is added to the post and edited dates.

I would like to see them return temporarily for Easter perhaps. With the wardrobe changes they’re now more desirable to have.

Zerker is the PvE meta but if you want to do good damage while still doing a small amount of support without sacrificing too much damage you can always check out my Mantra berserker build which uses the restorative mantra heal trait for extra AOE healing Hecate. But for the most elitist of groups you might not get away with even that (Despite being very effective either way).

That’s not what the thread is about! Its the lack of Male characters. People are not asking to remove this female character or that one because there are too many.

We are saying for balance and equality ADD in some male characters that some people enjoy identifying with. Why would this be a problem? You have quite a few female characters taking up key roles, how about some for the guys…

Personally I don’t identify with Braham, he’s a dimwitted oaf that hits first and thinks later. Faren and his fancy panties is a joke, Canach is a villian that has perhaps seen the error of his ways and currently rots in a cell, and Evon is a opportunist with questionable ethics (tbh I like Evon the most out of this sad ragtag bunch). The other two are Logan the love sick puppy who I would expect to see carrying around Jennah’s purse while she goes shopping and Rytlock who is so caught up in administration duties you barely see him anymore.

The best two real male heroes of this game were Forgal and Tybalt and they were unfortunately killed off. They had substance of character.

So ultimately I agree with the OP, there is a lack of male major characters, or should I say GOOD ones.

I know I didn’t suggest the thread was about removing female characters. I’m just making the point that normally the female characters are the ‘dumb oafs’ and ‘fancy panties’ weird stuff in other games so it’s nice to see these stereotypes reversed for a change.

That perhaps this can serve as an example to the people who have a go at woman (Or some men) who complain about the female characters in the video game industry as to why it can become tiring to always be represented in a bad way in a lot of games. Luckily this is improving all the time now. It’s just really nice to see. (Also not saying anyone in specific is saying this. Just making a general observation that the complaint is ironic in that sense).

Like I said I would like to see more male characters as well That’s not what my point was about.

If you dislike the fact that there are so many female characters. Maybe you can now understand why a lot of female gamers have been getting tired of all male casts in every other game EVER. Or at least to me I find it harder to relate to a cast of predominantly male characters (Some may disagree).

It’s refreshing to see more woman represented in varying roles and equally seeing male characters in the kind of intellectually challenged role you would usually see woman in (Lord Faren). Usually games are filled with the dumb girl that needs saving tropes. It’s definitely nice to see woman characters being treated the way male characters are usually treated in other games and vice versa. It’s about time more games do this and treat genders more equally and varied. No stereotypes attached to a specific gender and instead have either be fair game.

That’s not to say I wouldn’t mind more male characters. I think it would be nice if there could be more of them but not for the usual reason of it merely being the norm.

Skill lag has been horrendous. Full minute skill lag during peak times and the game freezes up before crashing with the error 7 code. That is if I can even login at all. I keep getting stuck on loading screens for ages and ages. I try reloading the game repeatedly and sometimes I get lucky to get loaded in if I just leave it, it eventually crashes. I can even hear the audio in the background but it just won’t let me in the game. This has been happening for nearly 2 weeks now and getting worse every day.

Oddly enough the chat in-game seems unaffected most of the time and I can type in real time while the lag is occurring. I do sometimes get the error 42 code and my guild disappears. I appear the only one in it and everyone shows as offline. When that happens only map and local chat is working. Party, whisper and guild chat completely disappear/break.

Well… We had Pink Day in LA a couple of months ago so it will be a while yet until the event happens again by which time I’m sure something will have been figured out.

That said the same organizers from gw-en.com and it’s volunteers (Like myself as a host for the Desolation server). We will be hosting another charity event for Multiple Sclerosis (Which we also did last year) on 19th of April and it will probably be hosted in Divinity’s Reach again (I don’t have the details yet but we’re definitely doing it again so stay tuned).

It took me forever to load into Lion’s Arch (longer than usual) and I was getting a lot of lag. I tried to load into Bloodtide Coast and now I’m unable to load at all. It seems like the lag is getting worse every day. I was having uses doing the marionette fight and other fights yesterday with 30s-1m skill lag and occasional err 7 code. But now I’m unable to load into the game at all. Few days ago I did not have any of these problems.

Yeah. Are you in the UK by any chance and have BT as your internet provider? Seems a lot of people are having issues but then some from other providers report the same problem. But it’s definitely a recent thing that has started and has been getting worse. (Some people think it could be to do with the internet getting DDOS’ed but I don’t know about that… either way I’m sure they are looking into it. Such issues aren’t always easy to fix).

@ kta – I have to say I do not agree with majority of your statements. I mean I do understand the part of wanting to protect children but this is up to the parents to do and guide their children through it. It’s down to the parents to study a game before letting their children play it and make sure they feel free to ask questions. This is not the games responsibility.

Secondly, You will have been killing creatures/people and have experienced your character dying for quite some time before getting to the marionette stage so you can’t honestly say people weren’t prepared for it or wouldn’t have known what this game might include at this point.

If kids really get upset about it. Suggest games like the Myst series. They’re really good puzzle games that are also challenging intellectually without any violence. Most games will include some sort of death or failure situation so I honestly don’t understand how this is a sudden big surprise/issue. I think it’s important that children are taught to be okay with failing as reality is that nobody can always be perfect at everything and everything has consequences that require people to take responsibility for their mistakes.

Furthermore, Arenanet is an AMERICAN company and a lot of American movies and horrors and games are extremely violent. You cannot honestly say that violence and gore is an European thing because American media is just as bad for it (I mean, you’re even fine with people owning guns in real life… if you don’t teach your kids the severity of death and killing and distinguishing it from games/movies/media than how can they possibly learn to understand the seriousness of guns).

Guild Wars 2 is quite suitable for 12 year olds. They will have seen much worse in other places or heard/seen from friends. Again this is up to the parents, the rating system just sets a guideline for parents to follow. Whatever you feel is suitable is best but it all comes down to you, it’s your responsibility to research these things and set boundaries.

If there really are kids who gotten upset about a giant robot/ufo killing their pixel character in a virtual world than their parents must have done something really wrong in teaching their kids on how to distinguish reality to games. This just sounds like a parenting problem not a game problem.

Yeah the duration during which the invulnerability is active should not be counted towards the time. I think with that extra 10 seconds it would be more feasible if you give it everything. It’s not the first phase that’s a problem with good coordination and the second phase in theory would be doable but I think the dps required is slightly too high for the time frame for an open world boss.

If it was a raid instance and you could invite specific people then fair enough but it doesn’t appear to factor in that there will be PuGs or new people to the fight who may not know what they’re doing or aren’t playing as well as they could. We have seen people just laying defeated on the ground for a long period of time and various other issues so I feel this should have been better accounted for. Outside of that I think it’s a great fight. I love hard content like this.

I’m often very surprised how many women play this game. This is my first pc game however. I come from competitive console fps and fighter games, in which women seem very few and far between.

The girls I knew who played FPS rarely admitted to being female because too many times they would be kicked off of teams, teased, or harassed.

I played FPS and other fighting type games and I always admitted to being female because I felt that pretending to be male just doesn’t help disperse the taboo of woman playing video games and I then just ignore being treated differently and the abuse/harassment. I’m not ashamed of being a woman who plays video games and I show through my actions and skill that I play games as well as any guy (Seeing as gender has zero influence over how good a gamer you are, not that it matters if you are good at a game as long as you enjoy it).

The reason why I tend to be one of the ones to point it out (when appropriate) is because I feel it’s important to do so. Mainly because people still assume you are a guy when they really just shouldn’t assume at all so there’s still some ways to go before woman playing games is considered a norm not an oddity so any way I can help demonstrate that there’s a definitive female presence the better it is in the long run for fellow female gamers by (hopefully) decreasing the amount of abuse woman receive in the gaming community.

I’ve already seen a huge improvement in woman presence and acceptance in gaming from 10 years ago which wouldn’t have been the case if woman hadn’t shown their presence and put up with the abuse. There is definitely a lot less sexism based abuse now in comparison to then (still plenty around just not as much). That said I can understand why some people want to hide their gender because it comes with a lot of drama and negativity and people just want to enjoy the game. I just personally feel it’s worth putting up with so that in the coming decades the sexism will hopefully continue to decline.

As for running into woman in gw2. I’d say the ratio of male to female gamers in gw2 is pretty much male 60/40 female quite a high percentage of woman anyway. It’s just not something that generally comes up because it doesn’t really matter and in gw2 in general it’s considered quite normal. It’s quite hard to tell by the character/name/profession people play whether they are male or female as there’s large variety of preference there. The only problem area is competitive pvp there’s definitely still a ‘woman should be in the kitchen’ vibe there.

If it helps there is a group on facebook called ‘Guild Wars 2 Girls’ where you can find other woman to play with. That said there are plenty of men who play gw2 who are mature and friendly who won’t treat you badly or differently for being a girl. Just have to give them a chance

I don’t feel that vigor or being able to dodge is the issue in regards to challenging content. I think it’s the lack of challenging content that is the issue. There are many ways to make challenging content without destroying the dynamic content that just isn’t being utilized.

Depends on what you are running.

One reason many mesmers favor precision over power is the trait that gives bleeds on crits, which is essential for phantasm builds.

Another is that you can pair precision with condition damage and toughness, but you can’t do the same with power. This matters especially in PvP.

As for the speed issue, I’ve been using centaur, and considering traveler’s runes for PvE/WvW. Speed matters and getting it without fuss is worth the cost to a lot of people (which is why the runes are so costly.)

Yes if you are running a build focused on bleeds on crit or where crit is important you will obviously want to go for precision/crit stats but for just normal direct damage builds either one is fine really.

I’ve heard that Prec build is better than Power, that’s why I don’t really like the idea of centaur runes, as I use GS/SS build and it’s working very well in combat. Focus gives swiftness, but I’d rather have the movement speed increased all the time

I started out using Power stats in my build. Then while experimenting in sPvP I went heavy on the precision/crit stats for a period of time. Now I’ve gone back to power stats.

Power just gives a more reliable sustained damage increase where Precision is more bursty in feel and I simply prefer the reliable damage as it makes it easier to gauge what damage you will inflict.

But I honestly don’t notice a major difference in practice. At least not enough to make a difference as to how well you do which is heavily influenced by how skilful you are so whatever feels best to you should work fine.

I’m sure the number crunchers will say one or the other is the best but Guild Wars 2 is too dynamic for perfect number efficiency to play a major contributing factor for winning versus skilful execution (In my opinion).

A trick I use to help with obstructed issues is to time a jump perfectly so that it coincides with a phantasm/ability cast just as it finishes. The game will consider you in line of sight while if you were just standing on the ground it doesn’t. This gives you a tactical advantage as you will still be obstructed to your opponent while you were able to get your skill of.

Of course this trick takes practice and you have to be able to judge when the jump will work to fix obstruction issues and when you simply have to reposition to give you the LoS you need. Other than that I just use immobilize, illusionary wave and burst damage to take them down before they take the treb down. Sadly the treb rarely survives for long either way. Best is to keep an eye out for when people come running towards you and try to intercept them.

I just use Centaur runes. You still get the power stat from the runes it’s just that the bleed stat isn’t very useful with the build I run. Its the unfortunate sacrifice mesmers have to make in order to keep up (Literally and figuratively speaking) until Anet decides to give mesmers better swiftness or better rune options with similar swiftness application. Traveler’s runes don’t appeal to me as I feel they aren’t as good for the builds I use.

Greatsword and Sword/Sword are both direct damage weapons so therefore you want to use Power, Precision and Crit stats (So basically Berserker) unless you are still low level and find yourself struggling to stay alive in which case you can try adding more toughness and/or vitality.

Mesmers lack in movement speed in general so I like to use movement speed runes. Centaur is the one I use but only at level 80. When I level a mesmer I tend to start out with using a focus off-hand even though I don’t particularly like the weapon (Just a personal preference, it’s a good weapon otherwise) because it gives you the swiftness from the Temporal Curtain.

While levelling up I wouldn’t worry too much about runes and sigils or amazing quality gear (I tend to use whatever I find + supplement with white vendor quality gear every 10 levels if I level exclusively in open world PvE) unless you intend on doing dungeons in which case you will want to have the right equipment and upgrades as much as possible so that you are at max efficiency.

Stun warriors are annoying up close as it’s nearly impossible to tell when the long stun is going to happen and when they get that one in you’re pretty much doomed so I would advice always being as far away as possible from them and try sneaking up on them. Other than that warriors aren’t that difficult and die pretty quickly if you play smartly. Just keep practising and learn what their abilities look like. To be fair on the warriors if they didn’t have the stuns they’d go back to being completely unviable again.

You can do what I do and blind people by being a tiny adorable ball of shiny light like a laser

If you want a challenge try running one of my two sPvP builds (Melee s/s or Mantra support) which aren’t favourable or easy to play in the current meta and see how well you fair.

I personally don’t like the stand back and throw stuff at people approach. I like visceral combat and challenge myself to remain in melee range as much as I can for the fun of it and micro managing multiple mantras is difficult when I go support.

Some people say it’s intentionally making it harder for yourself but I found that being good with non-meta builds and play style makes you a much better player overall as you have to pay far more attention to your opponent.

I think it goes for all professions that there are easier to play builds and harder to play builds but you will find that the easier to play builds tend to be less and less effective the more experienced your opponent is because they will also be more experienced at (and probably build for) countering them.

Play against some of the top players who spend every day fighting against these kind of builds and you will find that it’s not nearly as faceroll as you thought and if you don’t like the stand of approach try my above suggestion of running a non-meta build.
