It’s not difficult to find level appropriate gear and you can use the white gear merchant to supplement any gear that is falling behind or craft gear with resources you find.

Count me in I love this initiative! The Mesmer profession has some of the most interesting build possibilities I would be very curious to see what people come up with and I’d be especially on the look-out for unusual builds that excel in their specific purpose/role rather than just their overall viability.

I don’t understand the problem. It’s really easy to get continue coins. They drop from boss chests in SAB and on top of that you can buy 5 (25 lives) of them for 1 bauble bubble (250 baubles) from Moto. Not hard to obtain at all. Only place it would be tough is for Tribulation mode but then that is only intended for people who really like the challenge and who don’t mind working hard for it. Infinite coin just largely seems a convenience thing to me.

^, at the same time LoL had 200k+ viewers so don’t point the hour. Also it was late (early ?) in Europe but prime time in the US so really nothing to do with it.

Comparing the Guild Wars 2 stream with the LoL streams isn’t reasonable. Completely different type of games and also LoL wasn’t that big when it started. I don’t think any game can top LoL and moba style games for viewership, it’s just what is popular right now. I also don’t think MMO pvp will ever be as big in general.

As for expecting people to stay up till 4 am, I don’t think that’s reasonable. I’m sure some people did but plenty of people wouldn’t be able to do so due to their living situation or simply because of their sleeping pattern (I woke up early that day so I was exhausted by the time the panel ended). I wouldn’t stay up till 4 am no matter what was being streamed.

Especially since you can watch it back the next day so other than chat (Which was a nightmare anyway) you don’t miss anything major. Sure I would have preferred to see it Live but you can’t expect people to stay up that late.

It has nothing to do with how much I care about it which I definitely do as I been watching all the major tournaments for months now and seen the viewership steadily grow (You may have seen me in chat if you have too). So yes, I most definitely care.

My point is still valid. Because of the time of the tournament they will have lost a lot of potential viewers because of it. I think the viewer count would have been higher if it hadn’t been so late but of course it would never have been 100k like LoL.

In regards to the 5k viewers. Keep in mind that the tournament happened in the middle of the night over in Europe you would’ve lost a lot of potential viewers purely because most people would not stay up till 3/4+ AM to watch it even on a weekend.

I had to watch it back this morning myself while I would have preferred to have seen it Live and I went to sleep just after the panel at 1 am (England). It would have been much later elsewhere in Europe before the match even started.

To me it looked like they made it this way so guilds have a type of open world raid boss. Since the time the event starts is publicly available. Guilds could go into the zone early and go over optimal tactics (No overflow issues) and then try to take him down.

This is something people have been asking for. I’m sure the large guilds would find it interesting and be excited by the prospect (or smaller guild alliances) and the unique rewards and achievements would be very prestigious to own if the fight is as tough as it looks it will be. It will definitely be worth the effort.

I’ve added the main topic about this guild to the stickied mesmer guides & build list. I think this is a great initiative to help each other with all things Mesmer. A great way to talk the nerdy mesmer talk and get together to have a good time doing events.

Especially with so many great, experienced Mesmers already on board I think this is a great opportunity for veterans and new people alike to get more familiar with our profession and share our thoughts.

I went 20/20/0/30/0 Full zerker with sword/focus and greatsword. Using the focus reflect trait, reduce in glamour cast time and condi removal on heal. Utility I use mirror for the reflect, blink, feedback and nullfield with timewarp for the second phase. Works a charm if you use your dodges carefully and watch where you go.

Interesting idea, it would be a disadvantage if you are up against someone with a really bad build though

The question really is, why does it matter?

I see loads of guys that play light armoured professions and I see plenty of woman play heavy or medium armoured professions.

I main a mesmer and play thief as secondary. I like the agility of those professions, what type of armour they wear is irrelevant.

People are too caught up with gender stereotypes. Everyone likes something different, doesn’t really matter why or what gender you are as long as you enjoy playing what you do.

There is also no way to get statistics on this anyway so you could never get a clear picture of what a particular gender prefers and again who cares it isn’t important

I’ve been leveling my mesmer a little here and here, however after talking to other players, most if not all of them said gs and sword/focus is the best combination for pve, dungeons, etc. which is going to be the main use of my memser.

I also looked at the hectate build and it seems the most useful again for pve, dungeons, fractals.

Hecate is a deviation from the usual power builds because its a mantra build, I tend to devise builds that are slightly different from normal. It has the added support/damage from mantras while still having a lot of damage output and so it can be a fun and different play style from the usual Gsword, sword/focus which is pretty much the standard setup for PvE. Pistol is also good for dungeons for areas where there are single mobs rather than groups. I tend to swap off-hand a lot to be honest.

It depends a lot really on how you like to play and what you enjoy more. Standard builds aren’t always the most fun to play. Both standard and non-standard builds can work great it’s all personal preference really.

I use a build similar to Fay’s but have two different cases:

When pugging fractals: 20/20/0/30/0.

I find myself ranging more in pugs since it’s less coordinated and typically just safer, so GS training helps a lot with that. I also never know what to do with the 3rd inspiration trait, I take persisting images (+20% phantasm health) just because I’ve found shattered conditions to be lackluster.

When running with guildies: 15/30/0/25/0.

Since we are on chat, and more coordinated, I do not have to drop to GS as often, so I’ll run sword/focus and sword/sword and take deceptive evasion for added survivability. The 15 in domination allows me to shatter right before time warp (using DE and sword 3 to produce the clones) for the vulnerability, and thus added damage. This is the only time I will really ever shatter.

@fay, I never thought about taking 5 points in Chaos for the added regeneration. That sounds like a good idea. I’m going to try that in my builds, so (20/20/5/25/0) and (10/30/5/25/0) and see how it works. Thanks for the idea!

Well I use my phantasm build for spvp because I’m crazy and like the challenge of staying in melee sword/sword range…. let’s just say it’s been a BIT trickier since the new condition AOE spam meta (understatement of the century) but it’s fun!

Okay so, I’ve been tossing with the idea of a community mesmer hub website for a while now and seeing the work being done on this thread there definitely appears to be a desire for such information.

I’ve already got the www.mesmerguides.com link that I’ve been using for my own builds so far which I now want to expand to be a community project where mesmers can submit guides, videos, builds etc. and so I’ve started work on re-designing the website to be easier to navigate and… less pink

Let me know what you guys think of this idea and if there are any suggestions and if anyone wants to hop on board on this idea (Looking at you Chaos!).

I use 10/30/5/25/0 I just put the 5 points into Chaos for extra bit of regen. Since you don’t shatter your clones often the other minor points seemed less relevant. You can go 30 in inspiration for the condition removal on shatter but since you won’t be shattering much it’s not as helpful. (Also it’s a sword/sword melee type of playstyle I use with this other builds may find better uses for those 5 points)

Hey fay, Im wondering if your builds are still viable after the big patch recently. Im new to mesmer and Im looking for some pointers.

They’re still mostly viable, the only one I’m not sure about as I haven’t played it for a while is Kydoi but I’m thinking of changing that up anyway. The sPvP build isn’t super viable anymore with the new condition meta, swapping decoy for phantasmal disenchanter helps but if you get blinded your entire phantasm goes on a long cooldown. As for the other builds they should all be viable I will be going over the ones I haven’t checked in detail to make sure and make any adjustments if required soon.

Does seem odd as I use swordsman on a daily basis without an issue (Tried and used it fine just now). It would help a lot if you could describe how you are trying to use the phantasm. Is it in PvE? PvP, WvW? Describe what the steps are that you take in order to use the skill. Keep in mind that you cannot use it without targeting an enemy first and being in range or it just doesn’t do anything when you use the ability.

I used it for quite a while in sPvP, it’s really useful to counter rangers, staff mesmers (or ones with duelist phantasm) and p/d thieves also really good way to learn animations for other professions and the projectiles they use as you have to time it just right.

It’s also useful as often people will try to burst you down quickly if you can catch a projectile they will waste their burst on you as well as damage themselves instead with the reflect and you can then take them down.

I don’t think it will hold up in highly competitive situations as you’d be better off with with things like blink or portal but mimic is definitely a really good utility in sPvP for hotjoins.

I see people everywhere I go to be honest but I play on busier servers. Actually what I’ve been witnessing is that a lot of people that stopped playing have come back and started playing again and there are a lot of new players playing as well. So quite the opposite of what some people are saying.

I love mantras but they just aren’t good enough to play competitively as an actual build. You can use one as utility (Mantra of Distraction is good) but to run an actual build in sPvP won’t work. At least not if you want to play competitively, you will have some success in hotjoins with it if you don’t run into good players.

That said mantras are awesome for PvE/WvW support and I even like to run Mantra of Pain with Restorative Mantras trait in my damage build, so handy having that extra heal when it’s needed despite being full damage. I hope they overhaul the traits especially but the mantras themselves can use some tweaks also (Especially Mantra of Concentration)

Which build is this? Sometimes build threads show as many months old but the original post gets updated, date of updating a post is listed at the bottom of each post but if you notice any inaccuracies please let me know so I can correct it on the list

They don’t mean in actual pvp but in the Heart of the Mists where everyone hangs out between matches.

Ah now I get it – so people with hundreds/thousands of hours have a lot of time spent either afk, waiting for other people or chatting ingame.

I tend to play solo or loosely grouped most of the time, so my time ingame is nearly always spent actively doing something.

Edit: So it’s quite a lot to do with usage patterns – leaving your machine on and leaving the game open in the background or something.

I spend most of my gaming time either playing actively or talking in chat, usually both. Not as much spend AFK although I do sometimes alt-tab to check the forums and such and I tend to log off to do real life stuff.

IonusX has given some great server suggestions and I’m sure you will find plenty of people in game or on the forums who can help you with any questions you have. GW2 community in general is very friendly and helpful (Ignoring the few bad apples and that the forums tend to be far more negative than people in game are)

I’m inclined not to get it till I hear feedback from other people because the last two books were written, so badly. I hope it’s good though

I’ve made some adjustments to my sPvP build after I’ve been playing it extensively and made a few changes here and there. I renamed it ’Fay’s Build’ after it was dubbed as such during this Arenanet Livestream and was also used during this Mistleague match. I’m going to be recording some of the matches I do regularly to demonstrate the build in action and you can get a better understanding of how it works.

I think this is still a great Dungeon/Fractals build (the build on the first page). I use it in dungeons and fractals and can’t see any problems with it. The bonus is you only need to change a few major traits if you want to switch from Focus to Pistol or Sword to Scepter for certain bosses.

As I mentioned before I had some things going on that made it difficult for me to get the stickied build list updated. I have now removed all the out of date builds but with me having been occupied with other matters the past month or so I’ve been out of the loop in regards to the latest and greatest builds.

So, because of my current time restrictions. If you have or know a good build it would help a lot if you could post it in the build list thread with a link so I can easily add it (This also goes for any builds I may have removed by accident or if you notice any inaccuracies on the list)

I was going to suggest an elite that spawns 10 clones you can shatter but .. the lag would be horrendous! (It would be so cool though seeing an army of you run towards the enemy!)

I removed all out of date builds or that I couldn’t discern whether it was still viable. I had a short time to go over the list so if I removed your build by accident and it’s still good let me know and provide a link.

If you have a build that’s not on the list also let me know on here so I can add you I will be checking this thread fairly regularly from now on but I don’t yet have the time to go through all previous topics to actually find which builds should be on it but aren’t right now.

They are the only reasonable option for pinkish weapons in game apart from the few very expensive mystic weapons (Like Whisperblade). So no they shouldn’t be changed in colour if anything I would love to see more and better options using shades of pink/purple as there are already a lot of weapons that look natural.

That said the images you made do look nice The karma sylvari weapons aren’t pink though and look really cool if you want a more serious look.
