• Have you heard of the city? The ancient uru? Where there was power to write worlds •
(edited by Fay.2735)
No. A lot of the stickied threads need to be unstickied. So many updates have happened since this thread has been updated.
It’s why I put in large writing at the top that the build list is outdated and linked more current websites for builds. It would be nice to have a new stickied post with the latest builds but nobody wants to make it and keep it maintained.
Besides these days everyone just uses QTFY or Metabattle so there isn’t really a need. Just consider the build list a relic of the old GW2 days (can’t believe that’s now a thing, time flies).

So now it’s a Dungeon? Needing LFG…
It’s a map with vistas, POI, rewards for map completion, and so on.
This isn’t normal structure anywhere else in the game. Then it relies on 3rd party to actually do the map? That makes the game incomplete. ?
What do you mean 3rd party? LFG is part of the game, within the game itself (Press Y and then LFG tab). DS is different from the other HoT maps because it is designed to just be one big meta event and due to the mega server system it makes sense to use LFG to hop into a more organized instance to have a better chance to succeed.
The other maps also do better when joining an organized instance but it’s not quite as inherent. It’s just simply how the map works, it’s fine if you don’t like it but it’s not hard to click a couple of buttons to get into an organized instance nor is it that hard to look up a timer.
Looking forward to it, this’ll be the first pride march in gw2 that I’ll attend
I’ve been spending almost two hours around New Loamhurst attempting to complete the Holding Back the Tide achievement with no luck. I’ve seen the same events spawn several times now and done them each time without any credit given for the achievement making me believe it’s bugged. Here are the events I seen occur:
Aside from that, I have not seen any other events. So, either it’s bugged and not giving credit when it should. Or I’m missing an event somewhere that’s not showing on the map around Loamhurst. Can anyone help or confirm the problem?
Edit: Nevermind apparently there’s a rare event that only occurs occasionally.

Maybe they could move Halloween to another city, I bet they could make the grove super creepy if they wanted to or Divinity’s Reach. The new LA looks like a giant skate park to me, all coziness and charm gone. Plus it also looks like some giant child threw his sea toys all over the place, the buildings look silly. I much preferred the old LA.
(edited by Fay.2735)
Some changes aren’t as good as others. I agree that I don’t like the way you learn new weapon skills and I also preferred the old Lion’s Arch in design (that said it made sense that it changed because of the story, it’s just the aesthetics I’m not a fan off). So I do understand that you might not like some of these changes.
That said, to expect Anet to ask each and every players permission to make changes is just completely unrealistic. It’s impossible to please everyone. Those changes you mentioned and that I mentioned? Others might love the newer LA or the new way of unlocking weapons, so whose right? Who should Anet listen too?
It’s also very easy to focus on the things you don’t like that have changed but I’ve been playing since beta and I clearly remember plenty of bad stuff around launch.
I honestly feel that while they messed up a few features and they added some content I’m not happy about they added MORE features and content that I did and do love since the first year since launch.
I don’t know if you’ve been on a long break or not but I would highly recommend reading up all the summaries of what happened with the living story and watching videos about the events so you can get a feel of why some of the in-world changes happened (such as Lion’s Arch).
Because while I don’t like the way the new LA looks, it’s destruction and rebirth was an historic and amazing story in the GW2 timeline that I remember fondly and wouldn’t have changed for the world even if it means I now have to put up with uglier LA. Perhaps if you know the full story and see it unfold with your own eyes by watching the videos and read the stories you might appreciate some of these changes more with that context.
(edited by Fay.2735)
I don’t get it?
I’m having the same problem, can’t complete the Flameseeker Prophecy precursor because of this blocking issue.
Read the Living Story Season 1 summary on the Wiki then play through Living Story Season 2. It should explain most of who everyone is.
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Living_World_season_1
You can play LS2 either with someone who already has it unlocked but you won’t receive rewards and can’t do the achievements but at least you can see the story or you can buy it from the gemstore.
Unfortunately LS1 is not replayable, only way to find out what happened there is to read the summary, watch videos, ask people who have been there for details. The #1 video I recommend watching is this one, it’s probably the most important video of all of LS1 but there’s plenty of other important things that happened it doesn’t cover of course but this is literally the ending of LS1:
Also look up videos of the marionette fights, the queen jubilee clockwork attack, and the attack on Lion’s Arch. Maybe also check out the Karka event but just find a summary of what happened because that event was like 3 hours long.
I do feel like GW2 doesn’t do a great job at explaining the gap between Personal Story and HoT. Especially with the new Level 80 Booster that new people use and then have no clue what’s going on or why.

I’d personally prefer to see the Desert Borderlands fixed rather than see the return of the Alpine Borderlands. We’ve been running around in Alpine for years and it gets really boring after so long. It would be fine if it was temporary but permanently? I’d really like to see the Desert one fixed ASAP.
The Desert Borderlands looks amazing and is a breathe of fresh air. It just requires some big fixes in regards to strategy, tactics, location of camps and towers etc. The towers are also too big so it makes it hard to defend them and they’re too far away in no-man’s land. Honestly one of the biggest issues with Desert BDL is that there’s not enough population to cover it and that’s an additional way this map could be fixed. But yeah, I’m personally bored of Alpine, please don’t bring it back permanently or temporarily but for another year or more.

Wildstar is failing because the entire game is pretty awful. The raids are it’s only redeeming feature and an MMO is not going to be popular if all it has to offer is raiding. Even though GW2 makes raids now (by mind you only a small development team that is only a fraction of how many developers there are at Anet, it’s not a huge resource investment) it’s still a great game overall. The leveling experience is still one of the best and it has a huge amount of good casual friendly content which means you literally can’t compare the two games.
Wildstar failing because of it being awful despite of their raids does not equal that GW2 will because it added raids because GW2 has a lot more to offer, it seems like a ridiculous statement. People also like to ignore the fact that they did actually add quite a bit of other end-game content that isn’t raids in HoT, just because some people don’t like that content and some of it failed doesn’t mean it wasn’t made. Sometimes ideas fail and who knows what they’re currently working on to fix or add new stuff, people are so pessimistic…

The Halcyon Order [Dni] – (NA) are looking for 3 Condi DPS to be part of our raid team. Two positions are permanent, the other is temporary for a few weeks although depending we might have a second permanent position. We raid once or twice a week, usually Friday 5-7pm PST and some other day. We’ll figure out the best schedule once we find the two people.
We expect people to show up on time, with the right builds and foods. To be willing to adjust where needed and to be a decent player. We don’t expect perfect hardcore level gameplay but we don’t want people to drop dead every 5 seconds after having done the fight 20 times either. We don’t require full ascended yet but we do expect people to work towards obtaining them. We’re serious about wanting to make progress.
Some experience with at least Vale Guardian is preferred but not required if you are a fast learner. We use Discord as our voice comm, you don’t need a mic but you have to be able to listen to the raid leader during the raid. Basically we’re looking for someone whose:

!!! SPOTS HAVE BEEN FILLED !!!
Hello, The Halcyon Order raid team is urgently looking for a Dragon Hunter and a DPS to fill up two recently empty spots on our steady raid team as a permanent member.
Raid Times: 5pm – 7pm PDT on Friday and 7pm-9pm PDT on Saturdays.
Voice Comm: Discord
Armor: Minimum full exotic that is meta for your class and the willingness to upgrade to ascended as soon as reasonably possible. Ascended is much preferred.
Skill: Since we are an established team we’re looking for good players who have at least some experience with the bosses. We’re looking for someone whose killed all the bosses in raid wing 1 at least once and has had some practice in raid wing 2 as a minimum. The more experience the better!
Our Experience: We have killed all bosses in Wing 1 and 2, currently working on Keep Construct in Wing 3.
Most importantly we just want someone friendly who can be a permanent part of our team going forward and will reliably show up on the clock. Someone who has a good attitude towards wiping and constructive criticism, and whose sociable with the rest of the team.
We need the replacements starting tomorrow (Saturday 24th) and going forward. Please send me a PM in-game to let us know you’re interested in joining and tell us a bit about your experience and yourself. We will then select people to take with us for a run and if we feel you’re a good fit you will be invited to join as a permanent member.

God I wish we had such characters in Gw2. Strong and manly/masculine/w/e! Manly voice actors! Not skinny kitten mode like the ones we have in Gw2. God they are just so kitten weak here.
Stronger looking body options please Anet for Humans. Sick of my skinny legs.
I’m not kidding, If the characters of Wow went to war with Gw2 characters Wow would probably win through staring Gw2 down. No contest.
Everything just feels so…feminine…
Femininity doesn’t equal weakness nor does it make it a bad thing. The characters are more emotionally invested into their world and their friends. I actually find it refreshing because it makes the characters more believable than having the detached muscular big guys who are super serious and lack a depth of feeling.
While I think those kind of characters can be cool and interesting, they’ve been done to death and I kinda like seeing characters you could realistically be friends with in real life,it’s a nice change. I do agree that the overall amount of lore is not as large as it is in WoW and you definitely have to dig for it a lot more but the lore is certainly not bad, it’s just less in your face.
Which again makes the world more believable because in real life you don’t constantly read novels worth of history about every object and person you meet. Even if like me you like to learn and understand things most of the world around you is just there. In-depth explanations aren’t constantly required, especially when in the midst of a crisis where immediate actions are necessary and you can’t just stand around to read a library of books.

I feel this was deserved. They claimed to be #First at killing one of the bosses and then claimed you can do the raid in 15 minutes without any context to explain that they had access for like a month. I feel that Anet took the right approach here as this could have been damaging to how the raids would be perceived by those not in the loop about DnT’s involvement. On top of that they boasted about getting their title and selling loot they got for 900g. Stay classy DnT…
And before they remove it here are three pictures of their tweets and their official websites main banner:

Have you been doing all the adventures? They’re varied and pretty challenging.
I’ve updated our information Looking forward to welcome new people into our community!

What the heck is SAB?
SAB stands for Super Adventure Box, it’s a sort of odd arcade style, platform jumper, meets mario/zelda type ‘mini’-game. It’s hard to describe:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Super_Adventure_Box
It was super cool, look up a video for ‘sunny glade’ which is the first level to get a feel for it.
I loved SAB Got like, 7 yellow weapons. Just as some people dislike SAB some people really love it. I think it would be nice if they could finish the content and release it permanently, then focus on the main game again. I think it’s nice to have something so refreshingly different available for those who like it.
And hey, maybe if they make those checkpoints actually ‘save’ points it won’t be as difficult for more people to complete the maps.
We got through the guild hall claim event in Gilded Hollows but a build hit while we were inside. We didn’t think anything of it but when we went to claim it it said “A new build is available. Guild functionaility has been disabled’. Turns out, the attempt didn’t count.
People then got stuck being unable to get back into the game and people had to call it for tonight. I’m sending in a support ticket so that our hall can hopefully be unlocked ASAP. Ticket #: 1904738 – I hope someone sees this and helps
Edit: It has been resolved we managed to find some nice people willing to help us

Critical Announcement
After much deliberation I have decided NOT to update the build list myself. Instead, I’m handing over the reigns to someone else who is more in the loop/invested. Once they have made a new build post I will contact the moderators to swap my build list with their updated list.
As for the website, I ran into a lot of difficult coding issues that I do not have the knowledge to fix. I don’t believe I can shape the website in a way where it’s really useful and helpful for the mesmer community and I’m therefore also discontinuing that project.
That said, since I still have the domain name for a year I will be happy to give that to anyone trustworthy who can really make it into something special but it’s totally cool if nobody is interested in such a huge commitment. I just figured I’d offer to give it over to someone in the mesmer community first.
I know this is a big 180 degree turn around and to explain that; I lost interest in the whole theorycrafting side of mesmer when my initial builds were largely invalidated in the meta two or so years ago. Since then, I haven’t really kept up with what is meta nowadays nor been active much on the forums and I feel woefully out of the loop. I just don’t think I’m qualified enough anymore or the right person for the job to continue these projects.
As to why I was trying to revive this project anyway…. After the announcement that an expansion was coming and the potential exciting changes with that I became motivated again to set something up that the community could benefit from.
My intent has always been to provide a helpful source to the community but it quickly became clear it involved a lot more work and knowledge then I was able or motivated to provide and wanting to help the community was just not enough to make up for my lack of passion for mesmer theorycrafting.
Eventually I just had to concede that I really just wasn’t interested in doing any of this anymore, that I no longer know what I’m talking about, and that I was just fooling myself into thinking other wise so the best thing I can do now is to admit and accept that and let people who are more involved in the community take these projects over rather than stringing you all along, waiting for updates.
I was just being stubborn because this has been my project ‘my baby’ for so long even though I’ve neglected it horribly… it’s hard to let go of something you started out of a passion and admitting that you lost that passion a long time ago. I’m sure most of you will understand that.
All this said, I will still be around, still love GW2, still love mesmer, this is not a goodbye just handing over the reigns of these projects. I will do anything I can to help with this transition so feel free to PM me with any questions, concerns, suggestions etc. I hope this will be a new fresh start for the mesmer community, just in time for expac.
Mesmer really does have an amazing community compared to most other professions, a community that is passionate and goes beyond what is required to help new people get involved and learn how to Mesmer. I’m proud to have been a part of that in the past, to have been able to help shape this community when it was in it’s infancy, and to have seen it thrive since then. Special shout out to everyone involved with [OMFG] and everyone whose been making builds, guides, and videos to help others. Keep up the great work
Fay
Didn’t read the 9 pages of replies but, 99% of the PvE mode IS easy mode, let some of the people who like challenging content have some as well. You already have the vast majority of the game to enjoy why do you think that it’s fair that people who like challenging content should have NO content? It’s an MMO… not a ‘Shape this game to fit JUST ME and no-one else!’.
Don’t get me wrong, I like the easy stuff, I like the map completion, the dungeons, the living story but… come on… aside from SAB, Liadri… and the Triple Wurm first world kill. There’s been nothing challenging beyond that.

I’m very widely read in both fantasy and science fiction, and I don’t really agree with this statement. The difference between books written for game series has less to do with the “quality of the writing” and more to do with the audience you’re targeting. This was, in my opinion, what caused the biggest flaw in Edge of Destiny.
It was fine when it started, right up until the author turned it into an action flick. It felt like the Matrix. Great premise usurped by an action movie.
But I didn’t think the writing in Ghosts of Ascalon was bad, nor did I feel the writing in Sea of Sorrows was bad. However the purpose of the writing, that is filling in the missing information between Guild Wars 1 and Guild Wars 2 completely changed how those books were written.
I didn’t start reading those books expecting Lord of Light or even Game of Thrones. I expected a book to fill me in on what’s been going in in Tyria for a couple of hundred years and in that, the books succeeded.
Writing badly just because it’s a game book is not really an excuse; there are books about games that are actually well written without being on the same level as Tolkien etc. For example, the books about the Myst series of games are really quite good.
To deliberately write badly just because it’s for a game is almost insulting to the player base of that game who value the story of that universe. If it was purely as a ‘filler’ then they could have just directed players to Wikipedia. If you write an actual book, you should do it properly in my opinion, perhaps that’s just me?
Don’t get me wrong, I was not expecting the best quality ever when I picked them up. I’m not some sort of literature elitist… but it was bad enough for it to significantly put me off the story and I had to force myself to keep reading it for the sake of the story (being a fan of GW2 and all). It was just so immersion breaking and some of the worst writing I’ve ever seen in a book, apart from a couple of others I can recall off the top of my head. That said, I’m sure there are plenty of worse ones out there (my ‘to read’ list is long).
As I said, I haven’t read the last book yet. I’ve been wary picking it up with how bad the first two were but the story was overall just fine. It was just purely the writing and the delivery of the story that was off-putting. If people say that the last one is really good in comparison; I might consider it because I AM interested in the story.
I don’t know why people complain about story in GW2 this is one of the MMOs with better story out there. There is actually immersion on it, other MMOs barely have a story at all.
Yeah like Archeages ‘story’ -shudders-
I thought the books weren’t very good to be honest. I mean the story was sort of interesting/alright but the writing itself was just terrible… That said, I haven’t read the last book so perhaps that one has improved. I would recommend reading more well known fantasy books so you can experience the contrast in quality because the writing quality in the first two books is just awful.
People use Raptr? I mean I heard of it but it’s not commonly used in Guild Wars 2 as far as I can tell. I’ve never heard of anyone using it. Hardly a reliable source of data to determine actual popularity/population numbers in comparison to other games. People use other things like Teamspeak, Skype, Steam, Ventrilo or Mumble. Literally never heard of anyone saying anything about Raptr unless it’s a coincidence but I doubt it.

Why do I get the feeling he’s the guy who goes around gluing quarters to the sidewalk, then smirks quietly in the shadows when passersby attempt fruitlessly to pick them up?
He’s the guy that designed the clock tower jumping puzzle and super adventure box, that should say it all
I think your views border a little on the extreme. If I dislike something -regardless of what it is or isn’t – that doesn’t automatically means I’m scared of it and I want it to not exist.
What if I dislike some type of car? Does that mean I want that brand to cease existing? Does that mean I cower with fear internally each time one passes me by in the street?
And comparing living, breathing humans who feel and love with cars isn’t extreme? Your extreme lack of empathy and care is mind-boggling. You’re comparing transgender people with pieces of metal, objects, lacking in humanity. Your logic is very flawed and honestly VERY disconcerting.
I think you’re wrong calling people phobic. A phobia isn’t what you think it is.
If you look up phobia it means this : “In clinical psychology, a phobia is a type of anxiety disorder, usually defined as a persistent fear of an object or situation in which the sufferer commits to great lengths in avoiding, typically disproportional to the actual danger posed, often being recognized as irrational.”If I dislike something or do not agree with something doesn’t necessarily make it a phobia.
If I don’t particularly like cats and have objections to a cat being in a place that doesn’t mean I have ailurophobia (fear of cats).I think you’re too lax in your labeling things phobias.
Oh my apologies, let me clarify, I meant hatred towards transgender people and fear of anyone who doesn’t ascribe to cultural notions of what gender they should be and therefore demanding they do not exist because who knows what scary things might happen if we admit to their existence right? Also see:
I suggest looking closer at your ‘excuses’ as to why this NPC shouldn’t be allowed to exist.
If you’re offended by the transgender NPC or think she’s inappropriate you’re transphobic, end of. If you really believe you’re not then I suggest looking closer at your ‘excuses’ as to why this NPC shouldn’t be allowed to exist. If you are aware that you’re transphobic it’s your type that makes me feel ashamed to be human.
Let’s all just live and let live okay? LGBT people are NOT hurting you in any way by existing. YOU are the one hurting THEM by being hateful and telling them they shouldn’t be allowed to exist. So who should we really think of as being offensive? You’re the problem, not them.

What annoys people is that HoT is sold as a bundle with, as a bonus for new players, the core game. Veteran players, on the other hand, won’t get any bonus at all. Therefore we are questioning ourselves: why keep being so supportive when, in the end, they barely pay attention to us and make everything just to get new players that come and go instead of keeping and taking care of their most solid playerbase.
As for taking care of their solid playerbase we got an entire first season 1 for free that nobody new will ever get to experience again in the same way, not to mention all the exclusive items no longer available for newer players. Oh and what about the guild hall, arena, new wvw map, new areas and so forth, is that not for the original player base then? Is that not stuff people been asking for for AGES?
To clarify: $50 is the price of the expansion. We included the core game as a free bonus to make it easier for new players to get into it.

I don’t understand why people are raging so hard. I mean yes $50 is quite a lot but it almost seems like nobody here has ever bought another game before. Let’s have a look shall we:
Evolve: $60 Pre-purchase
GTA V: $60 Pre-purchase
ArcheAge: $50 Founderspack
Sims 4: $60 Pre-purchase
WoW Mists of Pandaria: $40 Pre-purchase
Wildstar: $56 Pre-purchase
And so forth…. and if you think you get way more content for that you’re terribly misinformed. From the glimpse we seen of HoT we’re almost, virtually getting a new game and knowing Anet they will probably add tons of more, FREE content thereafter.
People keep complaining all the time how they would pay a subscription if it meant more content, then they give you a big chunk of content at a reasonable price in comparison to the rest of the market and people complain???
You would’ve easily paid about $300 by now if you had to subscribe and WoW even still makes you buy the expansion ON TOP of that. I think it’s appalling that people had this game with TONS of free content for TWO years and they STILL want everything just handed to them??? Do you WANT Arenanet to go bankrupt? Come on people… get real…
I know paying so much money sucks but this is the reality of the gaming market. GW2 is a triple A title and is the most popular after WoW. This is an amount completely to be expected in line with most other games of this quality or even lesser quality (Like ArcheAGe). If you want to buy it for cheaper wait for a sale….
As for the paying for the base game, you’re not paying for the base game you’re paying for the expansion as they have explained. New people just get the old game for FREE which is more than people can say for the WoW base game, I clearly remember that some expansions you got free but still had to pay for the rest.
Now can we all go back to talking about how awesome the Guild Halls and Arena thing looks!

Keep in mind that they only showed traits and we had some hints at other stuff happening so the traits alone might not be the complete picture I’m really eager to see the whole picture to see what is what and what is really OP or what is really nerfed..
