So there is the new world boss meta event in the Silverwastes that is just like the marionette fight with the lanes and waves. I’m so glad to see this kind of fight brought back. I have fond memories of fighting the marionette. Has any server managed to defeat it yet? I tried once but the server I was in failed.

I think some people that play gw2 suffer from tunnel vision. Sure the free small patches aren’t massive but you get them for free as long as you login. All the while other games releasing similar amounts of content during the same amount of time make you cough up $20 or more for DLC or expansions often worth far less than the total amount of content we’ve received since launch.

Sure more permanent content would be nice but it’s still content, perhaps just not the kind you want. But each time I read something like this I’m reminded of how amazing gw2’s payment plan is. Other games are terrible for how they monetize content, I’m grateful for how gw2 is set up:

Im just saying that when I make a new character, maybe my 12th character slot, I would like to have these options available there as well. I don’t mind the kits, but for a brand new character, it would make an unnecessary step 2 in the character creation process. “Cut the middle man when starting fresh”.

Sure that would be convenient for you but there goes a large chunk of money Anet gets to continue developing the game. The main source for their income won’t be the initial box purchase but the sale of outfits, make over kits, bank/inventory/character slots and BLC keys. If they start to give access to makeover kit options in character creation that’s a big loss for them.

You don’t get it either. Don’t assume that everyone stops making new characters. If you are a veteran player since launch, wanting to make a new character, wouldn’t it be simpler to have all those options from the start? If they aren’t available at the character creation screen you are forced to get a kit (Hairstyle or Total) and use it to finally get the full character creation experience. I don’t mind the kits, they are useful to modify already existing characters, but I want those new options as well from the start when making new toons.

I’ve been playing since launch and I don’t expect to get these things handed to me considering the ease in which you can obtain just about everything else you need in-game. There has to be SOMETHING to work for and that Anet needs SOME way to make a profit.

I’ve understood since launch that if I want my character to look pretty I have to work for it. If the game for you is just making a 100 characters and use a makeover kit for all of them but don’t want to do the work involved in doing so then you’re probably playing the wrong game and are better of with a game like The Sims or Aion where there are more extensive character creation options from the get-go.

You don’t get it. I pay money for new character slots. I love making characters, but what I do not like is that I have to make a character, purchase a kit, and then “actually make my new character.” Thats 1150 gems for the full character creation from the start of the game. Is that fair to you?

I think that’s fair given the overall player friendly payment model. You are given 5 character slots and a decent amount of choice in the base character creation and can pay for these things with in-game gold as an option.

Additional character slots and access to additional character customizations are all aesthetic enhancements and is a reasonable way for MMO’s to make money and a pretty standard thing even for MMO’s with subscription fees.

If you want a lot of characters with just the right aesthetics to your liking you will have to work for it. GW2 has always stated that it’s about aesthetics so if you want the convenience of skipping the work required to gain access to these things you will have to pay money for it.

I think it’s fair of them to make it makeover exclusive. I mean they’re still a business they need to earn money somehow to continue making content and they do not generate income from subscription. If you really hate your look and you don’t want to pay real money for it you can always exchange in-game gold for gems.

GW2 honestly has one of the most player friendly payment models I’ve seen in the MMO genre most of them either demand a subscription or put content behind payment walls or make it impossible to play the game without buying upgrades and you can’t even use in-game currency to do that or even worse pay2win etc.

Addressing a misconception about AP

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Fay.2735

Fay.2735

AP says nothing. I have two accounts and on one I have something like 1k and the other 10k so when people see me on the 1k account and use the AP as experience indicator they will be completely wrong. I’ve also never bothered to actively get achievements. I only get them as I do things or if I feel like doing one specifically.

But the amount of time I spend on the game will be more similar to those who got 15k/20k. So I never use AP as an indicator. I look at how well people play the game or at least appear to know what they are doing.

My pet peeve for the past two years has been people writing ‘Kohler’ instead of ‘Kholer’ when referring to the boss in Ascalonian Catacombs. Not sure why it annoys me. Bad spelling/grammar doesn’t usually bother me unless it’s clearly intentional which just makes the person in question look like an idiot because they’re basically saying that spelling badly and acting dumb is cool or funny when the opposite is true. At least TRY to write properly it shows even when you make mistakes or are foreign or dyslectic (Like I do all the time being non-native). It’s hard to respect people that write like this “wen sum1 iz talkn lyke diz cuz m cOOl brah” all the time it looks so dumb.

Jumping Feedback Thread

Fay.2735

Thanks Elden for the shout out. I will post my tips again here so people can find it easily.

Aspect Skill Tips:

When to use which skill:

Use #1 when jumping up unto vertical cliff walls above you.
Use #2 when you want to go through a barrier/shield or quicksand.
Use #3 when jumping across a large gap (You can jump up platforms as well if they are higher than you are as long as you are far enough distance away to make use of the leap arc).

How to efficiently use each skill:

Jump Skill #1: Press 1 to go up then hold W to go forward as you reach the top.
Speed Skill #2: Aim your camera and character in the direction you want to go in then tap 2 to move through the barrier/shield/quicksand then press 2 again to stop moving forward as soon as you get through.
Leap Skill #3: Enable “Fast with Range Indicator” or “Normal” in your options menu under ground targeting. Move the green circle unto the platform ahead then press to move there (Unless you use Range Indicator in which case you hold 2 then let go when the green circle is in the right place). Do not use WASD or jump keys while using this leap skill it will do the work for you as long as you indicate the position it should leap to.

Just remember that the skills themselves will do most of the work for you. Hope that helps

Edit: I’d also like to add that it’s easier to use the aspect skills than actual jumping because you have more time between pressing the jump button and forward. I think because the skills control your character so suddenly and in a big way that people panic a bit while using them.

Just try to remember that the skills will do most of the movement for you and to try to relax when it does. Pretend you’re on an elevator and all you have to do is press the button to go up and hold forward to get out as you reach the top (in regards to the trickier skill #1). Don’t panic or try to steer the skills too much. You also don’t need to press spacebar to make the jump work.

That said, the great thing about GW2 is that you can hop on whenever you have time or feel like which is one of it’s strong points. Ok, since what you say is totally out of touch with reality…

You say they release tiny bits of content every two weeks which makes up for an expanion worthy content. WRONG!

Tell me, what exactly within those 2 years of game’s existence, even slightly reminded you of “expansion worthy content”? You received one map ( a tiny one ), no new dungeons except for the temporary ones + 1 path of Aetherblades, no new weapons, hardly any new skills ( please, 2 years time and an addition of less than 10 new skills? ), not to mention no new race or class. Furthermore, the balances patches and fixes ruined more than they fixed. Plus, the 99.9 % of the “new content” you say was via gem shop.

Please, be more precise and tell me one would not expect the things that were lacking in the first 2 years of the game’s existence?

Demanding/expecting those things is hardly HYPE if within 2 years time, nothing of the sort was de facto introduced.

People, seriously…

Just because a lot of it is temporary doesn’t mean it’s invalid. That is just your opinion and what your vision of what content is. Such as races and weapons and permanent content exclusively. And as much as I’d like to see those things. Guild Wars 2 has always been about the ever changing world. This means content that comes and goes. If that isn’t your thing then you are really in the wrong place.

Of course it would be nice to have more permanent content (Which I have no doubt there will be in the long run just not as quickly as ordinary MMO’s) but to say there has been no content because you’re discounting all the temporary content is a bit silly. If you include all the temporary content there has definitely been an expansion worth of content, bug fixes and overall improvement. There has been A LOT, Maybe not as much as WoW but that company is several times the size of Arenanet and so they have way more resources which people also seem to forget.

I just think you have a different vision of what you want content wise. Which is fine and I can definitely see where you are coming from. I just think in regards to GW2 you will have to be a lot more patient to see that kind of content or play something else while waiting for that content. Remember that they’re trying to do something different with the genre and so you might not like how they do things that doesn’t mean that they shouldn’t. Lots of people do enjoy the game in this way.

I’d personally rather have these frequent updates that change things and have permanent content added more slowly than have months of nothing to do but grind because you feel required to play because of a subscription fee. At least with GW2 I can pop on and have fun every couple of weeks and then for the rest I actually have time to play other games without the pressure of a subscription which I think is great! I used to play 24/7 but reality is that guild wars 2 is not a 24/7 game.

It’s season 2 of the living story as far as I’m aware. They’ve not really mentioned major game changes have they? I’m not sure why people are expecting a new expansion when they have not indicated that at all… just because it’s a new story and just because it’s what they want to have. If you’re bored with the game just take a break and come back when they’ve added the things you want there to be instead of having unfounded expectations of the story update.

I assume the OP means the hype on other threads where people for some reason are expecting an expansion worth of new additions instead of season 2 which indicates it will be just living story stuff like season 1 and not many new features (If any).

I don’t think expansion stuff is reasonable to expect since they consistently release new content rather than expansions with long periods of time between with not updates. I’d imagine it’s difficult to develop both at the same time with limited resources.

I mean they could be releasing stuff like that I just don’t expect it, there has been no indication that that would be the case as I’m pretty sure they would be hyping it up if so.

Still no PTS...

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Fay.2735

Fay.2735

Remember there was a PTR for EOTM WvW map and there were still issues with that as well. Other games that have PTR’s there are always bugs this is just the nature of game development and complexity of MMO’s especially.

A lot of people seem to think it’s all a single line of code but something as big and complex as Guild Wars 2 makes it very difficult to catch everything or to be able to fix them all in a timely fashion as you’d be required to stick to a release schedule as closely as possible.

Also, sure Guild Wars 2 has a long history of bugged releases BUT they have almost always worked hard to fix issues ASAP. As for the base content there are still some bugs with that but they have also been consistently improving and fixing these things since release. The game is far more polished now and has more features and I’m confident it will continue to improve. People are just bad for not being patient. I know it’s frustrating but you have to be realistic about how game development works.

@Danikat

No, they have a ‘Test Krewe’ (though they don’t call it that, anymore) of ~1000 players that test content before release. One of the Devs mentioned it (again) recently in one of the Twitch Livestreams, I believe.

Really? Interesting.. To be honest I think that makes more sense and would be more efficient than PTR if you have a smaller group of dedicated players with different play styles they would give a more in-depth overview of differing viewpoints than if you get thousands of people where the majority opinion rules which isn’t always the best thing for the game and doesn’t take into consideration the diversity of the playerbase.

When you have that many people it would be impossible to give each viewpoint due attention and consideration and as others have mentioned, more often than not people just want early access rather than actually care about the game. I know I’m guilty of that when it comes to public beta tests for games. I mean if I find a glaring obvious bug I report them but I mostly just play them to try out the game.

But I think it doesn’t matter how many or how little people are testing there will always be bugs. Having more people does not avoid them and does not mean they can get magically fixed with a single line of code change.

I have no idea why Zojja is representing the “assertive, decisive, strategic and intelligent” entry. Not that it really applies to me, as i was rated as an INTJ, but…

“You are the EXECUTIVE: Assertive, decisive, strategic, and intelligent. You are quick to see illogical and inefficient systems, and will lead your teams to develop intelligent solution. You’re sometimes stubborn, but your ruthless determination allows you to reach any goal you set.”

She’s assertive yes, and decisive, but the fact that she spent most of the game crying and moaning at Eir shows that she has no interest in strategy (with regards to saving the world against the dragons) and that she isn’t as intelligent as the game suggests. IMO she is stubborn, and ruthlessly determined to prevent Destiny’s Edge from working cohesively, as she’s constantly complaining. Zojja is illogical, since she would rather let the world be pillaged by dragons because of a hissy fit that happened during wartime (does she really think that her friends are immortal during a war?)

The fact that she is pretty much dragged through the story kicking, crying and screaming shows that she’s not fitting to represent “The executive”.

TL;DR: Zojja shouldn’t be placed as the executive since she acts like a child.

Every character has good and bad qualities. Like Scarlet might have turned evil she’s actually very smart and innovative. Zojja is definitely the intelligent, outgoing and get things done executive type. Unfortunately when that stubbornness and decisiveness gets applied to the wrong thing it’s easy to turn that efficient leadership into being disruptive and uncooperative.

I don’t think any personality is immune to being an idiot in one way or another. In Zojja’s case that’s being stubborn and a whiner but with everything else she does she excels and I felt she matched that personality type pretty well outside of the Destiny’s Edge tantrum.

Eh, c’mon, I’m Marjory too.

INFJ
Introvert(89%) iNtuitive(12%) Feeling(12%) Judging(11%)

You have strong preference of Introversion over Extraversion (89%)
You have slight preference of Intuition over Sensing (12%)
You have slight preference of Feeling over Thinking (12%)
You have slight preference of Judging over Perceiving (11%)

Not sure about the validity of this though. For instance I’m basically hyperemotive and tend to spend hours thinking, yet it’s quite a low number given I believe almost all of my answers would affirm that. Last time I did that kind of test I was, I think, classified as ISTP, so Caithe. I’d feel closer to that, or Kasmeer.

I think these tests should be taken with a grain of salt but seeing as your IFJ results are all in the 10% mark it does indicate that you’re sort of that but not quite that either as you said.

Mine was:

Introvert(89%) iNtuitive(50%) Feeling(38%) Judging(1%)

So I have that 1% Judging which could easily make me potentially INFP as well.

So this MBTI personality type test has been floating around for a while and I saw people had made charts for it that correspond the various personality types with characters from various franchises. Then noticed there wasn’t one for Guild Wars 2! So I made one for fun

GW2 Female Armour [Poll]

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Fay.2735

Fay.2735

My wife can’t even do her hair in 10 minutes, much less anything else lady wise, so I’m gonna ere on the side of caution and say most of the females here can’t either, at least not where they feel comfortable with themselves to be in public. (How you like that run on sentence).

Bottom line the sexes are different, and what is considered “beautiful” on each of those sexes varies greatly. Women complain when they don’t look like Barbie, or that they feel they should have to look like that instead of being comfortable with themselves, but all too often they forget that men typically don’t look like He-Man either. The difference is, most men don’t even try.

Let me start by saying it takes less than a minute to do my hair and I feel quite comfortable in public either with or without make-up if I wear any it’s because I felt like it. Secondly I wouldn’t want to look like barbie and that’s coming from someone whose favourite colour is pink (Albeit not the barbie shade of pink).

The thought of it makes me shudder. That doll is so out of proportion and unnatural. That people think that’s a realistic ideal or attractive is worrying. If whomever I’m with can’t accept me for who I am then they aren’t worth my time, I don’t like shallow people. So please don’t speak as if all woman supposedly want this or spend hours getting plastered up.

That said. I voted that I wanted to see more skimpy armour. The reason being is that right now there are plenty of covered up options and very few skimpy options. I’d like these two to be a bit more balanced. Especially for Medium armour.

The other reason I feel that there aren’t many skimpy options is that with a lot of the skimpier outfits you also get skirts that look ridiculous with random holes and weird flappy bits making for even fewer desirable options. They aren’t particularly elegant or delicate or have any cohesion.

The covered up outfits tend to be very puffed up and look odd in combat. I’d like to see more sleek and elegant armour skins like the new Ancestral outfit. I want to see a lot more of this style (Not necessarily with the asian twist).

That together with tops and bottoms rarely lining up. This to me gives even fewer mix ‘n’ match options. Obviously this is my opinion and others might like the weird flappy hole skirts and puffy covered up outfits. Whatever you prefer there are still less skimpy outfits than there are covered up ones.

To be honest the reason I tend to prefer skimpy outfits in this game is because they look more feminine where the fully covered up ones tend to be quite masculine. Which isn’t a bad thing I just prefer feminine outfits thus my desire for more elegant and sleek sets like Ancestral.

I’d also like male characters to have more skimpy options so people who play male characters also have more options. It’s all about variety and having more of every option as balanced as possible. Freedom of choice for everyone Gender is irrelevant in what someone likes. Remember that.

If you fall far behind in Sanctum Sprint. Pick up the blue basket things. These will often give an elite skill that allows you to teleport to the next checkpoint. This is great for people who aren’t very fast and can that way catch up.

Picking up the blue baskets will also often give you a special protection skill on your heal slot so every time you get a lightning cloud above your head use that. It gives stability and prevents you from being dazed/unable to move and being knocked over by fake crystals if you spot one coming up in front of you.

The red baskets give attack skills. Blue baskets defensive/supportive skills.

Why do people use Greatsword?

in Mesmer

Posted by: Fay.2735

Fay.2735

LoS the first champion in SE p3 near the stairs and don’t bring condition cleanses. Posts like yours make me so angry because you don’t even understand what’s going on in the stack yet not only do you condemn and claim corner stacking is cheering and makes you take barely any damage but you say “but it’s fine against alpha because I said so”. Am I wasting my time? I think I’m wasting my time. Nobody cares, nobody wants to learn. Everybody just wants to wallow in their own ignorance.

You didn’t read my post. For a start I wasn’t talking about SE, where did that even come from? I’m also quite aware how stacking works as I do do runs with stacking I just don’t enjoy them because you ARE bypassing the fights mechanics in favour of quickly burning through the bosses to get to the end reward.

Did I ever say that cheesing is a bad thing? No, people can do what they want to do. I just personally prefer engaging with a fights mechanics because it’s more enjoyable to me than getting to the end reward the fastest.

I also didn’t say anything about stacking against Alpha I said I like fighting Alpha while not stacking on him in a corner, using melee (And not using focus type reflects) the fight is a lot of fun that way.

So next time you rage against someone and call them ignorant you should actually read what they said. I mean I get that you don’t comprehend my playstyle and why I like to play the game that way because you play differently but that’s no excuse to say someone is ignorant. If anything, it makes you the ignorant one for being unwilling to understand someone elses view point and completely misinterpreting what they say entirely because it doesn’t match your opinion.

I mean if you want a more comprehensive explanation of what I’m talking about feel free to PM me and I’ll be happy to explain where I’m coming from. But I’m done on this thread. There is a lot of ‘My way is the only way’ going on and unwillingness to respect that there are different ways to play the game so I’m bailing out. I had hoped to show that it’s okay to do things in different ways but it’s clear that there is no point arguing with people who a have already decided their way is the superior, best and only way.

Why do people use Greatsword?

in Mesmer

Fay.2735

I like using greatsword and I have no trouble killing things but then I don’t care about doing something 5 seconds faster.

I was all here ready to call your bluff and went ahead and solo’d Champing Icebrood Wolf using only the greatsword, just for fun. What do you know, my kill time compared to the sword/sword/focus attempt came out to be… only 3.7 seconds slower.

Guess I’ll let you have your way this time XD

The combo I like to do is. I start in Sword/Sword. Get swordman out > Swap to Gsword before I get into combat (Means no CD on WS) > Use Mirror blade > Get iZerker out > Swap to S/S > Depending on distance, use Illusionary leap to get close > Blurred Frenzy. Then try to get another swordman out as soon as possible. If I need to get out of melee for whatever reason I just swap to Gsword and do another Mirror Blade/iZerker so I just try to get out 3 phantasms asap and they hit like a truck.

It’s a fun combo. I also use mantras so there’s a bunch of micro managing involved as well. Sure it’s not the most optimal build or a meta build and it will raise some peoples eyebrow but I have fun doing it my PvP build is somewhat similar just without mantras but the PvP meta is really not in favour of phantasm builds any more (Hasn’t been for the past year).

You could say I haven’t really been playing much the past few months after 5k+ hours I’m kind of burned out and waiting for new content. I guess what I’m saying is that sure Gsword isn’t optimal but it’s not useless either. I mean if you were using scepter in PvE fair enough but I did all the content in the game prior using a Gsword with reasonable efficiency so whether you go completely melee (and/or only stack in corners) or use a Gsword it’s not a major deal unless you reaaally care about being super optimal or just want to do melee only. I also like Gsword because it makes it a bit easier to quickly move to range to type something in chat and then move back into melee (This goes for if you aren’t cheesing a boss in a corner).

And the reason for pointing out the cheesing bosses in corners in relation to pure melee is because the main reason melee is so optimal is because you can throw a boss in a corner and take virtually no damage before it’s dead. To do melee without cheesing bosses is a lot more fun and more challenging but people don’t generally do that (For example I like staying in melee on Subject Alpha when not cheesing him because I like timing blocks and such and for some reason he always aggros to me so.. hugging him with my sword is fun)

1,688 people do apparently. Are you even trying?

There is way too much toxicity in this topic. Remember it’s just a game and people like to have fun in different ways.

I like using greatsword and I have no trouble killing things but then I don’t care about doing something 5 seconds faster. I also like to actually fight the mechanics instead of ignoring them and cheesing the fights by standing in a corner cheesing the bosses or running past everything but that’s just me.

Some people like to skip and speed through things. I don’t. Some people like to melee 24/7 and others like swapping in and out. No big deal. You do what you want to do and others can do what they want to do There’s plenty of people on both sides of that spectrum or people who like doing both.

Being in a party with nice people you can have a good laugh with is more important to me than doing something a few seconds faster and have zero communication. So basically I play for fun and being social rather than gold and speed runs. To each their own.

There is no need to bash people or get all worked up for doing things differently from how you prefer to do it. Just find people who play in the same way as you do and play with them instead of expecting others to change That’s just my two cents.

A couple of guildies of mine have told me that the Last Online feature said I had been online at like 4-6am when I hadn’t been. I panicked a bit because I thought I had been hacked but my account hasn’t been compromised.

So I went to look at my guilds roster and it says that one of my members had been online 3 hours ago when I know for a fact they have been at work and haven’t been online since last night.

So it seems that the ‘hours’ last online part is inaccurate. I wonder if this is to do with timezone differences? I’m in the UK, Desolation Server. I also use the ‘Server time’ option however swapping to local time didn’t seem to make a difference.
