if they keep punishing players they wont have any left, why should players be punished for arena net not testing their changes , if you make content so hard that its impossible and then give players a way to bypass that part ofcourse they will do it …
its arena nets fault not the players
Tad dramatic? You aren’t being punished. They’re working on fixing the issues. There’s tons of other content for you to do while they work on it. I’m sure you’ll survive the few days it’ll take to patch.

I posted this in another thread but I’ll reiterate it here. Used to run CM Story with my guild, great way to make money (about 26 silver per run) and get good exp. I understand why they made the change in rewards because you could just do that instance in 15 minutes over and over again and make mad coin/exp. I’m ok with that because even we felt it was an exploit. However, a new guildy joined us recently after the patch and he just got level 40 on his elementalist. We figured we’d do Story to get him through and then possibly do some events/hearts to get him to 45 to get into Explore mode. Remember, we used to do Story in 15 minutes, maybe die a couple of times to unlucky attacks or not timing dodges properly etc. Well after 45 minutes we still weren’t on the last boss, I had died about 17 times and my repair bill was approaching the 15 silver mark. We make the final push, kill the last boss and our reward….11 silver. Are you kidding me? I’d also like to mention this was the FIRST time we did this dungeon that night. We didn’t farm it 15 times, we did it once and got next to nothing for our efforts. I’m glad he got his helmet and all, but what is the point? I got some exp and 4 silver for 45 minutes of frustration. I could have auto attacked everything outside in the level 15 zone and gotten that much for my efforts.
Oh the difficulty versus reward, Yea they mentioned that that is an issue they’re looking at fixing. They just put it in place to prevent gold farmers from ruining the entire economy of the game but they went a little overboard which they are aware of:
• Have you heard of the city? The ancient uru? Where there was power to write worlds •
That was first boss in CM Story. He was down the stairs and I literally stepped through the door and WHAM, missile to the face.
We had no issues with the CM dungeons, Yes it took some time to figure them all out first time around but they were doable. I’ve not done them in a while though so I’m not aware of any changes they made. If you have a good team and understand your profession well you have ways and tactics to survive the fight.
• Have you heard of the city? The ancient uru? Where there was power to write worlds •
No I don’t think this was intended as a way to beat the fight. To be honest I’m not sure how people could even consider this being a legitimate work around. They wouldn’t have spend all their time designing the fight with the intend of you being able to skip it by semi glitching over a wall at a closed gate and having the various scripts written bug out because of it. How people logically consider this to be a genuine solution is beyond me.
Also they commented on the matter on this post here:

I don’t understand the complaint about the trash mobs being too difficult. It’s a dungeon all the content should be a challenge and difficult. You shouldn’t be able to run through all the non boss mobs like you’re OP to get to the more difficult content. It would make the reason for the mobs being there obsolete. I’d personally find it boring if the non boss mobs we’re a faceroll.
• Have you heard of the city? The ancient uru? Where there was power to write worlds •
From what I’ve noticed they’ve been keeping a close eye on community feedback but that it takes some time to fix the various bugs and exploits. I understand that it’s frustrating (I’m awaiting some fixes as well) and a lot of people exploit it (which they shouldn’t) but to compare it to WoW’s business is silly..
Why? Because WoW has 10 million + sub worth of money to invest and A LOT more employees to deal with community support and game development. As soon as GW2 was released and they obviously didn’t expect quite such a success I noticed they put up on their front page that they’re looking to hire people (This should also tell you something).
I just get the impression that they’re slightly overwhelmed and simply don’t have the manpower and/or time to iron out all bugs and fixes asap. Also this is an entirely new game. WoW is working from a platform that’s been out for years and had time to iron out all the kinks and so they’re able to work from that. GW2 is a whole new massive world and recently released. Bugs are to be expected.
So as a community we can help Anet by reporting bugs we find, NOT exploit them and wait till they get fixed patiently and they will be. I’ve been around since BWE1 and the various problems get fixed with time. Most things worked before launch it was the sheer amount of people they couldn’t anticipate when all went wrong but again we patiently waited and they’ve been fixing stuff ever since.
Also keep in mind that people in BETA often didn’t want to go to higher levels to test content because they didn’t want to spoil it (and some weren’t made accessible) so most of the high up content was never as thoroughly tested and as a result you’ll notice that the low levels are quite polished while the high level zones and dungeons have all sorts of things wrong with them.
What I would suggest to Anet is if they want to speed up and test new content in the future is to select some people/groups from the community (Like WoW has paragon) to test the content, Both skilled and average gamers.
One way of doing this is to release a patch with the new content but only allow the designated teams/people to run the dungeon/content for a few days. Then you can tweak any bugs or balancing issues and open up the content to a larger audience.
You might be able to implement a simple way for you to control access to this content like an event that blocks access (Like the event that blocks CoF at times) but that you can surpass with the people you run the dungeon with for testing…. Just some random ideas, but it might help.
Plenty of people would volunteer to test content (I’d be one of them :P) and then people might not feel like you implement changes without testing them first.

Even worse are the people who are pathetic enough to use the excuse ‘Oh there are jumping puzzles in the game so this was clearly intended by the devs as a way to get past that closed gate, glitch over a wall and skip the fight entirely’… I mean.. Really? Come on… Stop exploiting the game just because the content is too hard for you and you give up first try.

From my experience the way it’s meant to be used is by using the first focus skill (Temporal Curtain) to slow down the enemy and quickly pop the warden on him so it does a lot of damage it’s also great for targets that don’t move.
But once it’s done that one time it’s pretty much useless as the mobs tend to have moved by then so I just tend to shatter it at that point since I tend to use a focus when using a scepter/shatter type build. I wouldn’t suggest it for a Phantasm build.

Here are some of the clipping issues and such that I noticed. I pretty much use some of the smallest Asura Scaling options if that helps. Most of the gear I use is from the crafted Feathered Vestment set apart from my head piece. All the weapons I use are from the Verdant set.
See below image:
A: Noble’s Circlet – Caudecus’ Manor, Exotic Gear. It’s floating really far in front of my head.
B. One-Handed Swords always clip through the lower part of my gear.
C. You can generally only see the end bits of the Scepter
D. Pistol is virtually invisible most of the time
E. Focus (Which I really love for being a flower btw) is hard to see and clips a lot (Maybe scale it up a bit so it’s easier to see on an Asura?
F. Greatsword always looks like it’s cutting into my back.
Hope that helps

I’m too busy enjoying the game and the surroundings to really notice but I have noticed that my greatsword on my Asura is sticking into her clothes at the back. It doesn’t really bother me the only thing is that it’s harder for others to see the weapon.
Edit: Made a post about the ones I noticed on the thread Mea pointed out but overall it doesn’t bother me too much.

As far as I can tell the guild bank log only shows a day’s worth of interactions. I was hoping it could be increased to about 5 days. I don’t always remember to check the log every day nor should it become a daily task to check. I rather be playing the game than worry about having to check the guild bank all the time since the log will not be there.
Also not being able to stack items within the guild bank is doing my head in :P

Saying jumping puzzles are in the game so therefore you have an excuse to exploit a bug is ridiculous.
• Have you heard of the city? The ancient uru? Where there was power to write worlds •
I wouldn’t go as far as to say that Asura are racist but chauvinistic… definitely. They know they are the most intelligent of the races and aren’t afraid to rub it in. They even compete with each other for who is smartest.
Do they think the other races are stupid? For a large part yes. Do they therefore hate other races? No… racism generally implies a sense of hatred. The Asura are the most intelligent race and therefore aren’t boasting unfounded superiority when it comes to the mind department.
To be honest I think they just boast about their intelligence to distract you from their physical weakness a kind of nod to the pun ‘Making up for something’.
As for the Sylvari I honestly don’t understand where people keep thinking Sylvari are all serious. Have you met Sieran? Do you know who Caithe is? Have you seen their dance? Sylvari aren’t a serious race. They are generally kind and caring but unless it’s a serious matter they aren’t serious.

you can rarely pug end game content in any game anyway.
This is a very good point really. In other games you generally get Raids/Ops and similar as end game content where as dungeons are the easier practice leading up to doing this type of content.
So now a lot of people with previous MMO experience have the idea instilled in them that dungeons are meant to be easy and so when they are put in a dungeon setting but with raid difficulty they immediately feel it’s too difficult rather than treating it like a raid style setting. Especially with the lack of distinction between the story mode and explorable mode people easily overlook this difference.
PUGs in Raids in various games have always been a guaranteed fail 9 times out of 10 but people don’t complain nearly as much about this because it’s well known that these are intended for pre-made well organised groups.
As for difficulty finding groups for explorables… I suppose a similar idea would apply as raid type material where you find a reliable group of people you can stick with to always do dungeons with and even set certain times to meet up (I tend to do dungeons with the same people from my guild).

To grind would suggest you’re doing something you dislike in order to gain something you need. You don’t NEED the gear and it’s there for those wishing to show their achievement and experience but to be fair even so the amount of tokens required is a bit steep though not impossible.
well, I already said it in another post, but when it’s cosmetics only why does it matter if it’s a long grind or not? who’s gonna hurt if someone else runs around in cool armor?
the armor as “achievement” currently simply shows you have a lot of time spend in that dungeon. it doesn’t say anything how good you performed on these runs or how long it took – just that you did it enough times to have the required number of tokens. what type of achievement is this?
why does it have to be an achievement?
Why can’t it be just someone getting armor they want?he said it’s an achievement, not me. that’s why I quoted his message.
She* not he… and if you read my message I was referring to the sense of experience. Someone whose done the same dungeon many times is someone who is experienced doing that dungeon and obviously possesses at least some skill (Granted there are still a lot of balancing fixes to be made so the paths are more equal in difficulty)
but that’s the statement the gear was intended to make ‘Look I’ve done this dungeon many times and know it inside out’. It’s also the same reason why CoF armour is now no longer a statement of experience or skill because of the easy farming path it had.
It’s also why I mentioned that I agree that the amount of tokens for the entire set is a bit steep as you shouldn’t need to do a dungeon quite that often to be experienced with it but even so with time it’s doable. Either way it’s optional and so if you grind for it and hating the experience then maybe you should consider that the aesthetic quality isn’t worth your lack of enjoyment of the game and find something more suited to do instead (Maybe a different dungeon to mix things up or not do it every day 20 times a day).

As far as I’m aware Elementalists are a high DPS profession when played properly but I can understand your pain, I’ve heard of similar issues in regards to Mesmers and people not accepting Mesmers in PUG’s although I’ve not seen so myself. Just try to find a group of friends or a guild where you can find people you can do content with more regularly.
But to be honest, Do you want to do a PUG with a group of people who are so ignorant they would disallow certain professions to join? Also have you considered the possibility that they might already have many squishy professions in their party so they are attempting to find other professions with heavy armour to balance out the party?

Explorable dungeons we’re made with pre-made well organised groups in mind. Not PUGs and you force yourself to grind not the game. Getting the gear is about Aesthetic value and aren’t required for you to enjoy the game to it’s maximum potential.
To grind would suggest you’re doing something you dislike in order to gain something you need. You don’t NEED the gear and it’s there for those wishing to show their achievement and experience but to be fair even so the amount of tokens required is a bit steep though not impossible.
Just do the dungeon when you feel like doing it and eventually you’ll get all the armour pieces with time. I’ve been gathering so many AC tokens now just from helping guild members out without even trying to collect them.

I finished it last night, after mannnnny attempts. It involved us fighting the last boss with only 4 people and leaving the NPC out of the fight so that she would not have to rez at the end of the encounter.

Doodle, It’s the only thing I can think of other than the professions we had in our party because we tried to nuke it down like you guys did but he always had too much regen by the time we got to the 30% left mark. We’d be able to burst DPS him down to about 15/5% left but then all our major DPS abilities would be on CD (Like two time warps) and he’d gain back all the health up to 30% we managed to take off. So I’m a bit baffled to be honest :P Might try again with a Necro next time if we find one.
Edit: When we tried the nuke tactic we had 2 mesmers, 2 warriors and a thief
• Have you heard of the city? The ancient uru? Where there was power to write worlds •
(edited by Fay.2735)
So there seems to be this great divide between people who were able to nuke it down in 40 seconds and people who were struggling for hours at the 30% health left bit.
From my observations the people who were able to get it down that fast or successfully use the nuke down tactic.
They either always have a necromancer in the party who can turn boons into conditions or they started the fight early while the NPC’s are doing their little ritual that or with luck and then not being able to repeat their success again.
Me and my party spend hours trying to get this fight down, We started with getting all the crystals but then we didn’t have enough DPS on boss, We then tried nuking the boss and we managed to get it to about 5% once. We then tried the splitting up tactic which is I guess the way it was meant to be done but we couldn’t find the right balance between DPS output requirement versus boss health regen.
Regardless though there’s something odd going on with this fight and not to mention frustrating how some people can just steamwaltz it and others struggle endlessly (And I honestly don’t think it’s to do with lack of skill). Either way when we do get back to trying that fight again (unless it’s patched) we’ll be going for the nuke tactic as it seems the only viable option at the moment. Which makes me quite sad because the mechanics are interesting and would be nice to complete the fight properly

It’s because you started the fight while the little animation cutscene is still going on. We always wait for it to finish so you were able to get a lot of damage in fast without the crystals being an issue. Don’t believe the fight was meant to be done this way.
You cant start the fight without everyone being out of the cutscene.
I didn’t mean that cutscene sorry I meant the little story they play out with the worshipping NPC, should’ve clarified that but we weren’t able to do nowhere near that much damage that fast.

Mind pointing those out? When I google Gw2 Dungeons, you don’t want to know what comes up but I’m sure you have an idea heh
I once made the mistake of searching for fan-art of the charr. Needless to say, google images can be quite NSFW with no warning lol.
But no, I’m not going to point out the correct guides for this, at least not here in the first month of the game’s release. Part of exploration is finding and solving mysteries on your own.Mossy –
I’m not a fan of things that super hurt with no real tell. I’ll look into the crystals drop rate and frequency, and their warm-up/falling warning.
I’m not about to say this fight was tested with all class/race variations (that would take way too long). We did however test it in the following conditions related to your concerns:
-No poison
-No quickness
-Natural level 75There’s a balance that has to be made between crystal health and frequency/amount. There has been a lot of class fixes/changes these last few weeks, and it’s very possible something could have gone out of tune. I will investigate.
Thank you for considering everyone’s feedback and looking into the matter. I personally love the difficulty but me and my party are also unable to complete it. We tried the brute force method and the splitting up with some on crystals and rest applying conditions/damage on the boss but neither method worked for us.
We were unable to strike a balance between DPS output requirement and the boss’ regen. We have 2 Mesmers, a Warrior and the other two spots were swapped during our various attemps between a Thief, Ranger, Guardian and another Warrior.
We managed to get it down once to about 5% but we feel this was more luck based and with the use of the brute force tactic. We understand the tactic of the fight but are unable to accomplish them.

Fay, Elesthor, having fun with your already farmed CoF gear? yes? Cool. It was supposed to be casuall game, as i said before, 200 hours of grinding 1 set atm ain’t casuall, unless ur playing 20h a day.
I didn’t farm for the gear at all, Not the type of armour I like not to mention that everyone has it already so hardly a statement of an achievement.
I’ve only done path 2 once, I’m going for the fun of it and the achievement at the end. The company of good friends and the challenge. Not for the gear.
Just by doing the dungeons and sometimes helping out with other peoples dungeons I’ve been gathering plenty of tokens over time naturally without grinding which I think is what was intended.
You aren’t meant to grind continuously for tokens but rather naturally gain them over time by doing the content with various people. Why the rush? Why can’t people just enjoy the content for what it is. Go in with friends when you feel like doing a run. As long as your friends in game are semi competent and you have good communication going it’s doable.
And once you’ve done the content once, you know tactics and it gets easier each time and it’s very satisfying to help others through the content that you worked so hard for figuring out.
• Have you heard of the city? The ancient uru? Where there was power to write worlds •
So what you’re saying is, casual gamers get to miss out on dungeons now?
They’ve stated repeatedly that the explorable dungeons were NOT made for casuals or pugs and are meant for organised skilled groups. They we’re NOT made with casuals, gear, xp or money in mind but with the challenge.
The story mode is for the casuals and if you find those too hard then… well… I’m afraid to say you or the group you’re in are below average gamers unless you have some bad luck with a bad pug. You might have to either practice some more, find a better group or it’s just not for you.

Thank you for making the easy paths in the dungeons harder. Please don’t listen to all the people who complain about money/gear/xp and things being too hard, This content wasn’t made for them but for us who like a challenge.
The dungeons are meant to be hard and a real achievement to complete. They aren’t there for people to make money, gear or XP. The tokens are also optional. The real fun lies on completing the content with skilled friends by figuring out the tactics. I love how each fight has a unique flavour to it so you never quite know what to expect.
My only complaint is that some fights need some re-balancing and bugs fixed. Such as the searing effigy fight in CoF being too unpredictable making it more about luck not to mention that certain group combinations/professions and builds give the fight a real disadvantage (Made a post about this already) and it’s no longer about skill or tactics but a gamble which a fight shouldn’t be.
Also the end fight on the third CoF path not rewarding an achievement is something that needs looking at (Unless this was fixed and not mentioned as I haven’t had time to redo it).
• Have you heard of the city? The ancient uru? Where there was power to write worlds •
That path needed to be buffed, The flame armour is a joke now because people can grind it with ease. I’m glad they buffed path 2 I just wish they fixed the balancing issues of the last boss on path 1 has that makes it not completable without luck or certain party setups and fix the achievement not being given for path 3 because both actually block progress.
• Have you heard of the city? The ancient uru? Where there was power to write worlds •
We completed the third path with Agent Rhiannon in Citadel of Flame explorable dungeon and received the chest with loot after killing Tribune Burntclaw but we did not get the tokens or the achievement for it nor did the story continue in any way (See picture for proof). This makes it impossible to complete the Dungeon Master achievement.
