^ the “green swirly mail” is just as deletable after reading as the other ones.
I know this, I’m just saying that there is no indication to say that they are being counted as mail as well so it’s easy to think your mailbox is not full when it is. I only first noticed it this Halloween with the large amount of green swirly mail you received for the various quests.
• Have you heard of the city? The ancient uru? Where there was power to write worlds •
It’s been a while since I approached this subject and I tried around BETA time, I’m just curious how people feel about this now a couple of months after launch when all excitement everything being new and shiny has started to wear off.
So during the BETA I was looking forward to playing a Sylvari, I had imagined my main to be a Sylvari. I was rather disappointed when they finally made them available to try out. I’ve ended up making my main an Asura instead (Which I hadn’t expected at all).
The reason I was disappointed was that from what I had read from lore and imagined Sylvari to be was not the way they are in-game. I feel they are far too humanoid for a start. They are almost literal human copies but with different coloured skin and some leaves/twigs for hair with a couple of options for more plant like features.
But the most off-putting I found was the sheer size of them, How tall they are. I thought they would be wisp and dryad like. Smaller than humans (And not just smaller than the tallest human). I thought they would be between Asura and Humans in regards to size and on average a head smaller. They feel so chunky.
See the pictures below of what I had roughly imagined Female & Male Sylvari would be like.
With some humanoid features but less distinct, more plant like and smaller. When playing on my Sylvari thief I feel more like a norn equivalent of a Sylvari than a Sylvari. I feel more like a green giant than a petite race of plant people. It’s these reasons why I’m not playing a Sylvari even though I love their background/lore/city and artwork.
Does this bother anyone else or does anyone else feel this way?
• Have you heard of the city? The ancient uru? Where there was power to write worlds •
I’m female IRL and play an Asura.. just.. no.. please.
Thanks for the giggle though I started laughing as soon as I read the title.
I will say though that I would like some more ‘girly’ options in regards to armour for Asura but that’s about it really. Also helms making Asura bald is just.. -shiver-.
As for Sylvari, I wish they had made them less humanoid, More dryad, smaller etc.
Their chunky humanoid size put me off them, I was going to roll one for main till they released them for Beta, Just way too chunky and big for my liking. Not how I imagined them to be from the lore at all. But that’s just me.

The problem is that if you have the green swirly mail it also counts towards mailbox fullness except that it doesn’t make the icon go red nor does it get counted in the 0/10 mails. Which is really odd.

I see how people that don’t want to read what they click on,
have problems with this.
+1 …just to help the reading impaired people in GW2.
I don’t think being offensive towards others is particularly helpful.
It’s nothing to do with not wanting to read, I love reading. It’s more an issue of being distracted with other things while trying to organise your party. Surprisingly guild leaders of big guilds have a lot of things they need to juggle between while playing the game. The times I recall nearly making a mistake was when I was really tired or just woke up.
Either way it’s an easy mistake to make, even if one likes to read. One does not need to be illiterate to make such a mistake.
• Have you heard of the city? The ancient uru? Where there was power to write worlds •
I have done it 4 times now, and I can say for 100% sure that the amount of paths you need to do for each tier (5 points) increases every time you achieve a new one (unless there are other deciding factors like what dungeons you do etc). Either that or it’s bugged (not unlikely tbh, seeing as the bar doesn’t even move for me when I do dungeons).
Hmz odd, It doesn’t mention any increase or tiers. To be honest I haven’t really been counting them it isn’t really important to me. Also it doesn’t give a very clear idea of the progress you’re making. It just suddenly jumps up a bit.
So for all I know it could be from doing specific dungeons or any path counts, I don’t know all I know is that you don’t need to do all dungeons to get the achievement.
They really need to work on clarifying some of these achievements
Either way I’ll be doing dungeons regardless so I’m not really purposefully trying to get the achievement it’s just happening as I go along.
• Have you heard of the city? The ancient uru? Where there was power to write worlds •
Well with infinite I mean once you complete it, you can do it again and again the same thing. I don’t think it changes in regards to tiers or at least it doesn’t mention it if it does. To me it doesn’t seem to change but I guess next time I can keep track to see if it does.
I’ve completed the hobby dungeon master achievement twice now and in the process of getting the third but I’m a dungeon addict so I do loads :P.
• Have you heard of the city? The ancient uru? Where there was power to write worlds •
To be honest if you’ve gotten bored with those professions it sounds like you want more of a challenge so I would suggest a Mesmer (biased perhaps but meh) they are a pain to level up initially but become a real fun and challenging the higher you go. They are a very complex profession to master and maybe that is what you’d like for a challenge. Especially in dungeons they can be real fun to play because you really have to work to keep up with the other professions.
Engineers are quite versatile as well but as far as I understand it they are having issues with turrets and from my observation they do fall a bit behind the other professions over all. That said though support wise they are really useful. You might like the challenge of that also. After all people say Mesmers are under powered in PvE as well yet I disagree, I don’t play an Engineer so what do I know :P

The two biggest dungeon bugs that haven’t been addressed for weeks now are that:
I would REALLY like to see the gate into Arah fixed as well as the new bugs with the gates not opening within Arah itself.
and I’d also like SE path 1 never ending grenadiers to be fixed and with fixed I mean properly not saying it’s fixed and then it being exactly the same as before.
As for hodgins going into the room with the 5 scepter pieces, I don’t think he ever did? At least I don’t recall him ever going into that room with me. Even so it’s not really a bug as it wouldn’t really matter in regards to finishing that part of the dungeon. Unless you mean he won’t move to the room before it, I’ve never run into that issue before if that’s the case.
I haven’t done CM story in forever so I have no comment on that one but it’s ‘meant’ to be fixed though they said SE was ‘meant’ to be fixed too. So who knows

This has been mentioned many times before since launch and I do hope it get’s fixed soon. I have almost kicked guild members numerous times and once I actually did.
There should be at the very least a confirmation box, also perhaps reword the sentence because it’s identical to kick from party. Sure it’s in a slightly different place but that’s not enough to not make the mistake very easily.
Ideally though it should only be an option in the guild roster, it shouldn’t be part of the party right-click functions at all in my opinion.
• Have you heard of the city? The ancient uru? Where there was power to write worlds •
I don’t think you necessarily need to have done one of each dungeon because I remember getting it once and I hadn’t done SE at all so I do believe it’s just the amount of dungeons you’ve done rather than specific ones or all paths etc. As for tiers I haven’t noticed any tiers and I got the achievement twice now. It just says infinite.

Dev’s have acknowledged the issue but not said anything about fixing it or it being worked on with a fix coming out soon. There’s just been complete silence on this issue for the most part. I don’t get it…
• Have you heard of the city? The ancient uru? Where there was power to write worlds •
The only way to currently get into Arah is to either group up with someone from another realm where the gate isn’t bugged. Or to group up with someone who was behind the gate before it bugged out.
On Desolation EU at least, We are unable to use Mesmer’s to portal us beyond the gate because the waypoint is now also contested.
The dev’s have acknowledged the problem previously but have not said anything about it getting fixed or being worked on in any way. This baffles me slightly, You would think this issue serious enough to be a priority. Especially after the long period it’s been bugged now.
It would be nice to know if they are at least working on it and some fix will be out for it soon but there’s been pretty much tumbleweed in regards to this issue.
• Have you heard of the city? The ancient uru? Where there was power to write worlds •
I’ve never seen it this bad in any MMO I’ve played to be honest, There’s always a reasonable radius where you can see others. The problem is that it is such a small radius, literally a couple of meters + it takes so long for them to be loaded in as well.
I sometimes counted it taking a good 10 seconds for some of them to load in and I know it’s not my computer or internet that’s the problem.
I would really REALLY like an option to increase this, pretty please.
• Have you heard of the city? The ancient uru? Where there was power to write worlds •
No updates at all in regards to this issue? I would really like to do Arah so would a lot of other people, there’s no way for us to fix this issue ourselves.

Please for the love of Dwayna, FIX the distance you can see other players. It’s so so irritating!
It makes it look like places are abandoned, You can’t just sit around and look at people going about. It ruins immersion so much. I can understand the need for it but have an option to switch this on or off. I like to be able to see players from further than 2 meters away from me. Not to mention it takes AGES to load people in when you eventually do get to an area.
See the screenshot, It looks like a ghost town, I should be able to see people from where I’m standing. I mean I can see the NPC, and party members. I don’t want to be selectively blind. I want to be able to see people at the bank, the mystic forge, the repair vendor. That radius would be perfect. The way it is currently is not.
I know it’s been like this a long time but I would’ve hoped this had been fixed by now and it’s becoming increasingly frustrating to me. I know it’s not game breaking but it does make it less enjoyable to me any way.
I also understand it’s more so in busy areas than empty areas but again, It ruins the immersion so much and I don’t want to live in a ghost town where I can’t see anyone until I’m on top of them. It’s just really really bad.
Please make an option to increase distance you can see other players, I beg you!

Path 1 infinite grenadiers certainly needs fixing, Not as badly as the gate never being open in front of Arah though.

• Have you heard of the city? The ancient uru? Where there was power to write worlds •
The Dev’s have known about this issue for weeks they just haven’t fixed it. I know they have had Halloween and have a lot of other things to work on but come on this can’t be that difficult to temporarily sort out surely? To keep the gate permanently open for now? I feel like it’s just been put on the bottom of the priority list and being completely ignored at the moment.
Either they don’t realize the importance of fixing this issue (It being the top PvE content in the game + final personal story line event and all) which I don’t understand how they could have that oversight or they simply don’t care. I don’t know, either way it’s really frustrating and discouraging.

The gate is closed again but now it’s even worst because the waypoint is also contested which it wasn’t previously and so Mesmer’s can’t even portal people behind the gate (We are on Desolation EU). I worked way too hard on that thing to throw it away! That would make me cry. Haha… spent a lot of my free time on it actually. You know it has 4,000 frames of animation, and I had to hand track every single frame that a splash happened on every single fish for the audio guys to sync it up. Not that we will never permanently destroy anything. In fact… well, I can’t say more than that. But NOT the lion statue. It’s the symbol of LA. Like the Statue of Liberty is for New York or the Eiffel Tower is for Paris.
Colin just mentioned on the MMORPG livestream something about the lion statue being permanently gone unless I heard wrong? So now I’m a bit confused, is it coming back or really being removed? I can’t imagine you’d be happy if they removed it after working so hard on it :P

Yup this is an important issue too. Even if maybe you thought * if they summon adds its their problem* the NPC was funny..had to kite him to some npcs so he is dead before we start fight ^^
Yeah, The NPC on the other paths are all ranged so it’s not so bad but Randall is melee and he has this amazing magical ability of reviving himself after you get him killed by something even by the boss. 9 times out of 10, really quite annoying.
• Have you heard of the city? The ancient uru? Where there was power to write worlds •
I assume the spawning of grubs on ‘pets/NPC’ was intended but if you spawn minions automatically I can only imagine the pain.
They spawn on the NPC (Randall stop being in melee!) as well as my clones/phantasms. I’m basically single targeting the boss with auto-attack the entire first phase.
Of which the first 3 minutes I’m tabbed out as my AOE as a mesmer isn’t really worth the effort of switching weapons for the adds seeing as they will be dead in no time with warriors being on them and then I’m stuck waiting to swap weapon to auto-attack on boss again.
Would be nice if I could use my illusions, if hunters could use their pets and necromancers use their minions without them being grubbed whatsoever so the first phase isn’t so limiting in what ‘pet’ professions can do for damage (That said keep it so lupicus sometimes targets ‘pets’ for single target in the other phases etc.)
Other than the first phase I love Lupicus he’s adorable.

Totally not gonna take any more 80s in my lower level dungeon runs.
I actually prefer lower lvls and people who haven’t done runs before, since they seem to cooperate a bit more and don’t try to “speedrun” everything. And it’s a good practice for lower lvls to learn the game and mechanics in a safe environment.
Decent lvl 80s are unfortunately so so rare and usually a lot of them mess up due to their overly confident and elitist nature. Of course you can get lucky and get decent players, but those runs usually end up in silence and a little to none communication.Where’s the fun in that?
If you’re on Gandara or somewhere else and just want reliable runs, then feel free to whisper me ingame. Leveling my alt with dungeons purely atm (from 35 to 58 by now).
Nice to read messages like this, I completely agree and wish there were more people who had this view of things. Al though I wouldn’t necessarily exclude a level 80 either. Anyone is welcome as far as I’m concerned though I do try to prioritise low levels and newcomers first. Simply because it’s more fun and because it’s harder for them to find groups.
• Have you heard of the city? The ancient uru? Where there was power to write worlds •
Oh, embarrassing. Of my various characters, my mesmer is the one I’ve played the most. You’d think I’d realize that Feedback works like that and not just on those within it.
Pro-tip
: If you have the Medic’s Feedback trait in the inspiration line you can use it every 10 seconds and it creates a feedback bubble around you and the person you are resurrecting (as well as anyone inside it).
What I like to do is wait till the NPC that usually accompanies you in dungeons is dead then rez him a tiny bit every 10 seconds so you can essentially use feedback every 10 seconds that way. (Great for the Kholer fight in AC for example).
Of course doing that it’s very limited and situational and you have to rely entirely on a dead NPC near you during the fight for it to work but that tactic has come in handy a few times before.
As for retaliation yes, as far as I’ve observed you still get damaged but any skills the enemy uses on you will damage himself. In a way it’s kind of similar to confusion with confusion being the condition you apply on the mob where as retaliation you apply on yourself.
But both still makes it so you take damage yet both rely on the enemy to use abilities that will damage itself in return.

You can go to another starting zone as well
Do a bit of exploration there, as an Asura you’re near the sylvari starting zone so you could pop over there and have a look around?
The idea is usually that you also do some harvesting/crafting a long the way as Lockhart suggests.
• Have you heard of the city? The ancient uru? Where there was power to write worlds •
Don’t worry, There will always be elitists around in any game because that’s just human nature as well as how people have been conditioned by other MMO’s like WoW…. to be selfish. Granted some might have valid reasons behind it but most simply don’t.
Whenever I do PuG I always request people of lower level or who never done the dungeon before as priority because I’m sick of the elitists and want to show not everyone is like that. I enjoy helping. So far I had zero issues getting through dungeons with a couple of un-experienced PuG’s along. Even an entire PuG, I’ve had no issues.
You will find that there are far more elitests and QQ’ers on the forums than there are good folk simply because they are too busy enjoying the game and can’t be bothered with all the complaints and bad attitudes in general (Not everyone here mind just MANY).
I can guarantee plenty of people do not like this attitude (At least not in my guild). Just need to find the right people and add them to your friends list and block any who do have a bad attitude.
Best of luck

The best thing about him is by far his voice acting as well as the surroundings with the floating islands. I really had a lot of fun with this guy but I agree he’s not difficult enough to be an end game explorable boss in the way it is now though there is certainly plenty there to take note off for dungeons in the future.
I also didn’t realize how much of a difference it makes when the boss communicates with you throughout the fight until the Mad King, thinking of it now just fighting a silent boss the entire time makes it less engaging.
More voice acting during encounters with witty comments will make a player bond in a way to the enemy, it really makes a big difference.
Also part of the appeal of mad king is that his health pool is balanced with the sheer amount of stuff going on… Nobody likes 10 minutes of attacking a boring boss with huge health pools -cough- Honor of the waves -cough- people want engaging fights that are all different and unique and not reliant on time sinks like big health pools.
I rather do 20 different bosses that die quick as long as they are all unique than 4 big bosses with huge health pools.
One idea would be to use the one big thing you haven’t used in any of the dungeons. The underwater versus on ground settings. Sure you have HotW but because the encounters are entirely underwater it’s really just painfully taking down the huge health pool it doesn’t make the most of it.
Why not make an encounter where you start of on land, then the room floods and you fight underwater then near the end of the fight you do something to drain the room and you finish of the fight (Like a sinking pirate ship?).
There’s many great ways to use existing and possible mechanics to make encounters more interesting but they are largely unused and repeated which is a shame. That said I still love dungeons the most because they are far more challenging than normal PvE and so more engaging just for that.

Also on path 3 when you go down the ramp towards the encounter with the barricaded bridge (the one where there are spiders that spawn if you go too far left). Well the slope going down towards that in a bend at one point you get a burning condition for no apparent reason?
As if you’re being burned by lava. It just seems to be at one point and goes away when you get past that point but still… Bit weird when you’re trying to deal with that group of moles that comes towards you there.

Before we were able to handle the grenadiers (Granted it was a real pain with their respawn time and being silver mobs). But now we just get overwhelmed in a matter of minutes with no way to realistically deal with this and kill the boss at the end.
I’m pretty sure this can’t be intended, We couldn’t even get the first golem down before we were completely overwhelmed. So I’m hoping the fix will be implemented soon (And yes we’ve done this path before a few times).

I love keg brawl but me and my guildies never play it just because we can’t play it together. I can understand in pvp with wanting to make it fair but it’s a mini-game. We would like to be able to enter in parties and put different parties against eachother for guild events/tournaments.
I haven’t played any keg brawl in ages because of this and neither does anyone else I know off because of not being able to group up especially since there isn’t really a reward to doing it other than it being fun…. Either way it should be so you can party up with friends and go up against other parties of your choice.
Have a separate option for grouping up and randoms. So the current keg brawl setup is still able to be done but that there is also a group option.

The only dungeon I found that requires some semblance of decent gear (at least rare) is Arah. All the other dungeons I felt are quite doable in greens and blues of semi appropriate level.
The amount of level 80’s I see get downed all the time or causing a wipe….It really isn’t a good indication. The chance of them causing issues is nearly as high as someone of recommended level from my experience anyway.
To be honest looking back most issues I had in PuGs were with level 80’s I cant think of any low levels having caused any major problems. Sure some of the first timers get downed a few times but so did the level 80’s who hadn’t done the dungeon.
• Have you heard of the city? The ancient uru? Where there was power to write worlds •
*sigh * call it bad attitude all you like, I have illness that restricts the time I can play the game and be in a dungeon and so I have to choose the people I pug with in a logical manner. You can kitten and whine about how it’s unfair all you like but that’s how the game is, you cant change facts. I still take lowbies. So long as they have gear on them. I still take mesmers so long as they have gear on them. I still take people with bad gear, so long as I KNOW them. What I will NOT do is take a random person who I do not know who is in crap gear on a class that is harder to play than others. I am not telepathic, and when I am pressed for time, I will keep to probabilities. All I see from you is someone who hates anyone who has any criteria for who they take, no matter how much sense it makes.
I don’t hate anyone and it’s your choice what you do with your time and it’s good you do not exclude people entirely. I also understand you have time restrictions and reasoning for it.
My problem is that that’s the exception, most people who demand level 80’s and perfect gear are doing it purely to be elitist and selfish. This doesn’t help the community. I keep hearing of people being kicked out of the groups for such reasons and I think it’s incredibly rude. I feel bad for these people and think it’s unfair to them.
I can understand your reasoning for why you in specific do it but I can’t support it being encouraged as if it’s normal and okay to always do as a general rule. It’s happening so much now for no good reason and it shouldn’t be encouraged for that reason.
I’m not trying to offend you I’m just trying to show that there are still many people in the community who would not exclude people for any of those reasons. That there are people who are level 80 etc. who frown on people who have this attitude. So that people don’t get discouraged from doing dungeons but rather need to find the right people.
You’re a minority in regards to why you prioritise. But encouraging this behaviour isn’t helping these people who keep getting kicked from groups if you know what I mean? It’s just supporting this attitude. I’m just concerned if it get’s encouraged too much it becomes the norm and I don’t want to see this community become more and more like other MMO’s.
