Why are Guardian Tomes written in English?

in Guardian

Fay.2735

I noticed this a while ago that both Guardian Tomes are written in English. Is this a mistake? As far as I’m aware people in Tyria can’t read English and instead have New Krytan. Shouldn’t the books therefore be written in New Krytan also?

Also the smaller writing is too small/smudged and we can’t make out what it says other than some English letters, does anybody know?

Arah. Giganticus Lupicus

I’ve not seen any bugs with lupi while playing with him, He does tend to pick some random person to harass though (Why did you target me 5 times in a row Lupi?! Why ;_;) but yes, from what I can tell it’s pretty random though I think there are factors involved that give certain people a higher chance to be targeted but again I get the impression it’s a % chance to each person given depending on their stats.

From my observation warriors seem to get targeted more with toughness/vitality than the more squishy professions in our groups but I’ve been targeted quite a few times myself al though in general less often and I have 20 points in vitality. So I’ve come to the conclusion that specific stats probably give a person a higher % chance to be targeted over another person, that different things give people different percentages.

I could be completely wrong of course but that’s the impression I’m getting from the Lupi fight. The single target though seems random entirely, He also targets my clones so I keep them up to make the chance one of the group gets hit a lot lower.

Legendary pistol -- THE QUIP

in Mesmer

Posted by: Fay.2735

Fay.2735

Clones do not have offhand weapons. Additionally, phantasms use their own pistols, using the model called “Ilya”. Do not get quip.

Considering that The Predator actually grants unique graphical effects to some fo the engi skills that don’t even use the rifle (grenades for example) I wouldn’t write it off based on how other weapons effect phantasms. It’s quite possible Quip has a uniqe effect for mesmers, especially considering that it is designed with a mesmer theme.

The thing is I heard that Sunrise doesn’t have as many effects because the lack of Mesmer’s swinging a greatsword, Not sure how true this is.

It’s quite difficult to make money in this game, All I can recommend at lvl 60 is to vendor all the items you don’t need (except crafting materials). It should gather a decent amount of money + doing Dynamic events, quests. As long as you don’t waste money on waypoints.

Skipping Kholer. Not on.

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Fay.2735

Fay.2735

I never played Guild Wars 1 .

Then please don’t talk crap to people like me that played GW1 since launch. You have no idea what you are talking about and you’re just making yourself look dumb.

Also please don’t talk about skills because it’s we skip bosses. I played infuser in top 200 GvG, and held halls with 8 paragons before, so don’t bring up the whole skill level thing at all.

Uhm, Where did I mention anything about lack of skill in anything I said? Also what has Guild Wars 1 to do with any of this either? Being plain offensive just for the sake of it is really not cool.

I don’t understand it either. How many times do I have to tell you I don’t enjoy fighting Kholer, for various reasons, before you realize I’m not saying I don’t enjoy the rest of the dungeon?

Even if I didn’t enjoy the dungeon, I may in fact enjoy profiting from it. But that’s not the case. I think I’ve already mentioned that I can’t stand farming Orr. Yes, it’s more efficient, but it’s boring. So I do dungeons instead.

Does that I mean I like for them to take long for no reason? No.

Last I checked a good handful of people like the rewards more than they like the work required to get it. In-game and in real life.

I heard you the first time in regards to you not enjoying the Kholer fight, if you want to skip it that’s your prerogative. I’m just saying that I don’t like the idea of skipping bosses period as I said I can empathise with skipping non boss mobs but I feel dungeons should be done for the fights as well as reward not just a boring chore to get a reward. Games are meant to be for fun.

Of course everyone likes rewards but my point is that I’m sad to see when people only care about reward and don’t enjoy the content. Me personally I wouldn’t do content I don’t like doing like I refuse to do the orr chain grind, as yourself I can’t stand it. I feel the dungeon experience is a package deal if you don’t do all of the content it’s not the entire experience but again that’s just my opinion I’m not saying anyone elses is invalid.

I guess I’m just standing up for Kholer because I like the fight, it’s the most engaging one in AC, makes me sad to see so many people skip it. I can understand it I just don’t agree on the whole concept of skipping bosses. As I said that decision is yours I’m not attacking you here nor anyone who does want to skip it.

People are being far to defensive (and offensive) in this thread in general. You don’t want people telling you to not skip a boss yet there’s people using derogatory comments towards someone who supports the idea of not skipping bosses. Even though I’ve not said anything offensive to anyone.

Anyway, I said my piece, I love Kholer, I’m not for skipping content for some silver. I wouldn’t run a dungeon group with people who would skip bosses. I also see nothing constructive to be gained from posting in this thread further with the inflammatory comments. I’ll be counting down the new dungeon release with excitement and enjoy fighting Kholer in-game instead

I think it’s sad that you somehow, for some reason, expect me to enjoy the same things you do. And in this case that thing is repeating an action that is time consuming, unchallenging and unrewarding.

Is it so hard for you to grasp that when people want something, they want it quickly and efficiently? And also that I can’t possibly enjoy a the 90% of the rest of the dungeon because I didn’t do one optional boss?

And why is it you seem to think you learning how to defeat Kholer is somehow more of a feat than me learning to defeat Kholer? Did we not both engage him, recognize the telegraph for his scorpion wire, and learn to dodge appropriately? Where is the challenge in repeating that fight, over and over again, when me and four others want silver and tokens?

Or do you believe that progress in the form of itemization is enjoyed by such a niche group of people in MMO’s?

I’m sorry, but don’t tell me what’s fun and challenging. I know where to get my fun and challenge in GW2. And it’s not from Kholer.

This is the kind of mentality I don’t understand. Why do the dungeons if you don’t like them? There’s other more efficient less hassle ways to make money plus I don’t really understand the need to insult someone because they enjoy the content and would like others to enjoy it too.

Anyway, I think Kholer is fun. All of the AC dungeon has good/bad memories for me which makes it more fun for us to do. That’s for all dungeons really remembering doing them first time around.

If it irritates you, then leave the group. If it irritates a majority of the group, kick the players who wish to skip. It has been repeated so many times in this forum: Don’t tell people how they are supposed to enjoy the game. Fun is subjective.

Again, I will bring up the SC argument. In GW1, why did people dump fortunes in trying to go from a 15 minute UW to a 14 minute? A 18min DoA to a 17min? Because they had fun doing so!

It’s not pure laziness or lack of skill. It’s how people enjoy doing dungeons. Stop telling people otherwise.

I never played Guild Wars 1 (yet) so I don’t know the things you are referring to. Sure if you want to be the fastest at a dungeon and find that fun I can semi understand the challenge in that but I don’t know I just like spending time with friends, relaxing our way through a dungeon, messing about, having a laugh. Making fun of Kholer’s love for ropes

I guess what I’m saying is that in any group I’ve been in that wanted to speed through dungeons there was practically zero communication and to me it was boring.

Plus I feel if you want to do a dungeon fastest you should aim at doing all the content within the dungeon you were intended to do in the fastest time. Skipping it IMO is cheating that race type of challenge.

Why on earth are you even doing dungeons if you don’t enjoy the content if you skip bosses. Especially an awesome boss fight like Kholer, he’s one of the better ones.

Uh, the loot, maybe? As far as I know the Kholer fight doesn’t change after the first time you do it. None of the dungeons does.

Also I needed one look at Kholer’s scorpion wire to figure out the “tactics”/to dodge. After doing many CoE’s before then, having a boss with actual telegraphs was child’s play.

If you enjoy skipping all the fun fights and content just to get some silvers that your choice true but I think it’s sad that you can’t see the enjoyment of doing fights like Kholer.

Yes, of course you will understand how the game mechanics works when you’ve done CoE but at the time we did the fight people weren’t high enough level to do CoE (Well for the most part).

Nobody knew what dungeons were like, how to deal with the mechanics. It was all figured out as we went along from dungeon to dungeon. We learnt the dungeons the hard way without guidance.

As for loot, to me it’s mostly a bonus for doing the fun content. Still after hundreds of times doing dungeons I do them for fun. Sure I like and want the reward just as much as the next person but it’s not the reason of doing dungeons. I can get those same rewards elsewhere.

Wow, the OP is obviously just a troll and has abandoned the thread since long.

- Kohler is not hard and never was.
- Groups dont skip him because he is hard (see point 1).
- Groups skip him because he gives kitten rewards.

Can we just let this thread die please?

I agree with the OP in that it irritates me when people want to skip Kholer, not because he’s hard yes or no but because hes one of the more fun bosses in the game. We always crack jokes about him.

- He was hard when we first went in 2 months ago and wiped several times trying to figure out the tactics and then proceeded to cower behind pillars to avoid his ability till we started to figure out we could dodge it and use feedback. People now get the tactics handed to them by those who’ve done them before. This is the same with all fights, it’s easy when you know how (well for most encounters anyway).

That’s why I would recommend to anyone new to dungeons to run them with others who are new to fully appreciate the effort that went into devising tactics when people like me and my party first started out.

- It is pure laziness and in some cases lack of skill, I had a few people wanting to skip and when we refused they got pulled into Kholer several times. That said though it’s not necessarily the case that there is a lack of skill but rather a lack of care about the dungeon content and only care about the reward at the end.

- This is not entirely true, I got a jug of karma out of his chest a week ago + You have the convenient waypoint there that helps you get about the dungeon much more efficiently.

I wish people would stop skipping content, I can sympathise with a couple of groups of non-boss mobs, but bosses? really? Why on earth are you even doing dungeons if you don’t enjoy the content if you skip bosses. Especially an awesome boss fight like Kholer, he’s one of the better ones.

Lack of Players in Low Level Areas/DEs

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Desolation has loads of players all over the place. I’m currently levelling several alts and I always see a lot of people about. There’s people asking stuff in map chat or looking for dungeons. I asked to do this one out of the way group event and suddenly 8 people appear to help within a minute.

I’d say the mid zones are the least populated at the moment but I still see plenty of people around. I am aware though that the lower populated servers might feel empty and so underflow servers or merging some of these servers would probably help.

Of course it wont be as busy as launch it’s to be expected I think Anet has timed the new patch coming out well. Most people are at around 80 now and playing alts, pvp, dungeons. Perfect time to get a new content patch out.

Plus people can play when they want rather than be forced by a subscription which makes it more enjoyable and less of a chore to I’d imagine a lot of people. Whenever there’s new content people will flock back to enjoy it.

Just get the founder of the guild to demote the guy, done. Just have a look at the attached picture the top one should be the person in charge and able to demote anyone. As far as I’m aware only one person can be that rank (Correct me if I’m wrong).

We’re not running around the statues. Hodgkins and Detha and AC don’t bug out for people, for example. Giganticus Lupicus doesn’t bug out with Randall not starting his encounter for many people.

But there are some people for which it happens.

I didn’t mean you were running around the statue like headless chickens as such I meant that you need to get the alignment practised. It makes a huge difference, Trust me we struggled a lot with it initially but the more we did it the easier it gets and since then we only had the random aggro drop causing issues.

As for there being a proper bug we didn’t experience it if there is but from what you described it sounded like the same thing we had trouble with initially (Much raging on our part).

You didn’t read the post. It’s not about managing them. It’s about them standing in the circle and not being imprisoned…..

Stop lecturing people you haven’t even played with.

I apologies if my post came across as lecturing this was not my intend. All I was saying is that I’ve seen a lot of people complain about the sparks yet from the experience we’ve had with the fight we’ve had no serious problems positioning the sparks once we got hang of the fight (other than the above mentioned random aggro drop).

We’ve done the fight with some less experienced players (With that I mean who don’t know the fight or players who simply got confused with it) who tended to just run around the statue and hope for the best and al though this can work the position the sparks need to be in is quite precise and this is what makes it tricky. It takes some practice to get right.

I was trying to point out that you might want to adjust your tactics so they go into the circles with less problems without giving away anything specific because I like for people to try to figure it out for themselves (more rewarding). Which is why I kept my reply short but simple.

They are quite manageable if you know what you’re doing and have good teamwork and tactics. They aren’t nearly as difficult to handle once you know how. The only singular problem I’ve had with sparks is sometimes you loose aggro and they return to their position for no apparent reason.

My opinion of the Dungeons in GW2.

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Fay.2735

Fay.2735

I like these dungeons. As long as they work. There are too many bugs in my opinion. We just did AC explorable path 2 and the end boss would not come. We did not even skip, we killed Kohler and all other mobs but while the NPC and the cannons were all flagged with red shields/cog, the Ghost Eater did not appear.

That is a huge letdown. But in general dungeons are really fun and they are not die-rez-die-rez events when you know how to do it.

The one real qualm I have is the hit point bar. It is ok for me that bosses are really strong. But why has the tree at the end of Twilight Arbor so many hitpoints? After half of them are gone we have proven already that we are able to kill him, have learnt to kite/not aggro the spiders and what we do then is mindlessly autoattack. Don’t misunderstand me: bosses should be hard. It is ok, that the end boss causes lots and lots of red circles which really hurt when you get caught in them. But it is boring and repetitive to do that as long as you have to do it with some end bosses (like the tree in TA). When you finally killed the boss you have proven more your patience than your skill.

This might seem like a silly question but… You did talk to Detha to start the fight? If so I never had this bug before that the boss wouldn’t start after Detha fixes the cannons :/

As for health on bosses, I agree as I said in my own post that some bosses have too much health than needed though the tree one isn’t too bad. Maybe a tiny bit less (20% less?) other than that it’s about right.

Here’s the deal, Anet…if you’re listening. There’s no reason it can’t be both ways. Leave existing dungeons just the way they are (save for fixing the bugs), and design a handful of dungeons with the casual player in mind…dungeons that play more like the world-wandering PvE content.

Not all players are hardcore enough or have enough time on their hands to put up with the frustration of learning the mechanics (as should be evident by all the posts stating that “dungeons suck”). Some find it to be very fun, but many will not. Many will say “well this isn’t fun” and never try it again. Then those same people will get bored and quit the game because there is not enough existing content that is to their liking.

Don’t forget that you are a business. If you alienate a sizable percentage of your customer base then they will cease to be customers.

The storymode dungeons are for the casual players, explorables for the more hardcore though I’d say the majority of the games players are able to run dungeons just fine just probably not the higher up ones as much.

Precursor Acquisition Unfair

And let’s be honest, most people are having trouble with the precursors rather than anything else that goes into getting a Legendary. And you don’t see people complaining about the other stuff that it takes to get a Legendary, just the precursor.

Thanks for taking the time to read my OP, this is exactly what I meant. I have no issue with the other items or the general effort required because they can all be worked towards within reason and almost all be gathered or gained in some sort of reasonable manner (Though ecto’s now and lodestones…meh-ish but that’s not what my post is about).

I also have no issue with the time requirement in general, it’s only really the precursor that is the issue here because it’s unfair that lucky or rich people can get it 10 times faster than anyone else, this is my problem, it’s unfair that the majority of people will have to work 10 times as long and hard for a legendary than these minority of people.

Effort should be rewarded not punished.

Not to mention that those who were lucky or the minority who have gotten really rich are now holding on tightly to the precursor market making it near impossible to work towards for anyone else. Not for a very long time, anyway (or again with luck).

Luckily I’ve seen the post the dev team made in regards to making chances to the precursor issue, hopefully making it more reasonably obtainable through effort rather than luck -fingers crossed-.

I hope the developers don’t listen too much to the ‘Need to be more like WoW’ comments. The general ideas of the encounters in the dungeons are awesome. The only problem I’ve had with them is bosses with too much health and a few bugs/balancing issues.

Most of the comments I’ve read here say to me that the people don’t know how to approach the dungeon encounters, They don’t understand what is fun about it because they go into a dungeon with certain expectations and being confused by the difference of mechanics to dungeons in other games. They expect the dungeons to be X and will hate them till they are X rather than figuring out how to run them in a positive, fun way.

Also remember that these dungeons aren’t the equivalent to WoW dungeons but rather WoW raids. That’s what the dungeons were intended to be…Difficult.

Me and the people I progressed through dungeons with, we did all the encounters almost entirely by making up our own tactics through trial and error. It was hard and in some cases we were in a dungeon all day. But it was very rewarding and fun when we finally managed to beat an encounter.

If people are just standing auto-attacking then they are almost certainly being carried by the rest of the group. It’s about teamwork, figuring out the most efficient ways of combining the different professions abilities to make the run smoother. By being responsible not just for yourself but for the others in your team.

Speaking of being carried I’ve seen some pretty terrible players who managed to complete dungeon master titles by being carried through a dungeon. So those who think dungeon master equals skill (sure the chance is high) be wary.

Anet I hope you don’t pay too much heed to the people who want a complete overhaul. I think more bosses like kholer, lupicus, alpha, alphard is the way to go. Fights that are engaging, that require a lot of movement, activity and focus.

I think CoE Path 2 and Path 4 of Arah are good examples for interesting bosses but that there are some bugs and their excess health that need to be revised.

Over the last two months the QQ’ing about dungeons has decreased to just the particular fights that are really hard or a bit buggy. I’m so happy you stuck to your guns about difficulty and I hope it remains so. I remember when everyone said how hard AC was. People need to learn how to play their profession, how to play in a team and how to deal with the mechanics.

It’s not a problem with dungeons in general but the problem with the players foremost. I’ve helped so many people do dungeons now both from the guild and pugs who had awful experiences running dungeons with other groups and who didn’t realize how much fun they can be till they ran it with me and my party.

If you dislike dungeons you’re most likely playing them wrong, playing with the wrong people or they are simply not for you in which case you should consider playing a game you do enjoy or content you do find fun rather than the content changing for your sake.

That’s my two cents anyway. I considered not posting but most people who love the dungeons are actually out there enjoying the game, avoiding these topics and so I felt the need to say something about it.

Hi,
Inbox is 0/10 , and I’ve deleted the 3 green swirlys I had

No idea then but saw another thread just now with the same problem. Sounds like a problem on Anets end. If it doesn’t arrive in 24 hours just open a ticket?

Is your mailbox empty? I know this sounds like a silly question but if you have green swirly mail in your mailbox it tends to count towards mailbox being full without it showing up. At least that’s what happened to me during Halloween when I received all that green swirly mail and even though it said 6/10 I wasn’t getting any mail for days till I removed the green mail.

And 1000 hours really? lol… the game has been out for 1700 hours.. With that much playtime, and dungeons.. you should have more then 2-5 gold per day..

I don’t see how playing the game more equals more money. Dungeons don’t make a hell of a lot of gold and with so many gold sinks it really doesn’t add up to much at the end of the day.

I also have guild events or help guildies with various things or simply have a chat with people so those of course also don’t make money + I don’t want to rush through all the content either so I’ve rolled some alts and play on them occasionally, low level things don’t make much money.

If you are claiming you’ve played 1000 hours (/age then u see play time 1000 hours?) “casually” and making only 3~5 gold a day then something can be done better here.

The general farming in north cursed shore will land you 2 gold / hour, for dungeon run, 1 run will land you roughly 30~50 silver (for the reward, token to get rare and salvage, and the loot).

So give it time and try to play more efficiently would help you on the road. Right now it’s EXACTLY incredible difficult to obtain but viable (you must’ve seen them running around you proving that even with all those so call difficulties it’s doable within 2 months).

Now to the unfair part, it’s how you see it. Lottery existed in real life too. It’s your choice to take the chance or spend the time. The point is, give the effort, you can get it. You just need a better way to mange your time to have better return.

Again, it’s been 2 months and we shouldn’t be expecting legendary to be owned by “casual” players. This is something you HAVE to work hard or be extremely lucky. If you have to argue about the luck part. I say good luck with it but it’s not my argument. I think you need to realize if you ‘re playing this game casually then you could expect your legendary to come within a year or so. It’s only up to you to choose the pace but this is something for sure doable. You need more patience.

I mostly do dungeons because it’s the most challenging PvE content in game so for me most enjoyable. I also run a very active guild and so a lot of my time is spend organising events, socialising etc.

What I mean with casual is someone who likes to do the content they like without having to grind for hours doing something incredibly boring and unrewarding. Of course I’ll keep at it but that’s not the point of my post, the point is that the way the precursors work now it makes it unfair.

I am aware that legendaries should take a lot of hard work to get and currently they do require a good deal of effort and I feel this should remain so. But I think the money involved to gain one is currently unrealistic and I’m in disagreement especially with the only alternative, Luck.

Making Gold: (Non luck based gold making)

I’ve played GW2 around 1000 hours and earn maybe 2-5 or so gold every day by just doing dungeons and various content casually.

One way to make money is grinding. I don’t particularly want to grind like a headless zombie in Orr all day (Pun intended?) because that’s not enjoyable whatsoever. Don’t get me wrong here I do try to do some of these things occasionally but the whole motto of GW2 is that you wouldn’t need to grind endlessly to make your time spend worthwhile.

Then there’s the trading post/auction house game. This requires you to have a good economical head on your shoulders and somehow manage to find a niche in the market to profit from. Most of these niches are already dominated now. These tricks and schemes go way above my head, Maths and Economy is not something I’m good at or understand well (I tried) and I also don’t want to be standing in Lion’s Arch all day at the TP trying to play the AH game. I want to be out enjoying the game.

Realistically the only way to make any reasonable amounts of money without any luck being involved is the trading post game or continuous grinding (Or if you’re wealthy in real life to get money that way).

Doing anything else in-game gives you pathetic amounts of money in comparison. For example if you spend 2 hours in Arah path 4, All you get for it is perhaps 2 gold from vendoring blues/greens.

Currently to buy a precursor it costs between 300 and 400 gold. That means if I’d safe roughly 3 gold every day from playing the game normally it would take me roughly 4 months to have enough to buy the precursor.

Not to mention the various other expenses like Icy Runes, Crafting, Mass amounts of T6 mats, Ectos etc. All together if I tried to get the legendary by earning gold normally it would take anything between 6 months and a year. Is this what was intended?

Luck:

Now this is the real thing I dislike about trying to work towards a legendary. Someone could put 4 rares in the mystic forge and get a precursor while another person could put thousands of rares in the mystic forge and never get the precursor.

Getting rares alone is luck based on drops unless you pay for it but that again requires gold, Gold that as an average person playing the game I do not earn enough of. So then I have to again gamble on whether to safe up the money which takes 4 months or take a risk in the hope to get one sooner.

How is this fair or at all based on effort? I can see how the previous part of my post about having to work for 6 months to get enough is seen as effort but how is it fair that I’m forced to do that while others are making extortionate amounts of money?

I’m broke all the time just trying to get this legendary while numerous people are waving around their legendaries and riches in my face. I feel like I’m being punished for trying to have fun with the game, For not being lucky, For not being good with economy.

Conclusion:

So what I’m trying to get at with this post is, Give people a way to get a precursor that does not involve mass amounts of money that are unrealistic to obtain for most people or pure luck.

Make it incredibly difficult to get but make it obtainable by just playing the game. In other words. Have for example a precursor vendor that sells the precursors for let’s say 100 gold, 500 Arah dungeon tokens, 500 badges of honor, 100k Karma (That’s just a random example).

At least that I could work towards not luck based. You can keep having the random drops and sell them on the TP for people who have the gold but don’t want to waste time farming the tokens and karma. If you make these precursors account bound they wont be put into the economy system either.

True the precursors on TP won’t be worth as much as they are now but it would be doable by determined players without relying on this luck factor. All these are just ideas and there might be a better way to work this out. I just think it’s unfair that lucky people can get a legendary in a month while I have to work for it for up to a year.

I’d like to see the gamble part taken away or an alternative made for it as this was always a thing in other games I hated (Like grinding raids in WoW for months and never have your loot drop or win the roll). I left such MMO’s behind because I disliked the unfairness of the gamble and the grinding.

I’m willing to work for the legendary, What I don’t want to do is kill all enjoyment from the game by grinding 24/7 and gambling. There should be an alternative way to get the precursor and perhaps more ways of getting T6 mats + ectos (Maybe harvesting nodes in dungeons spawn when killing a boss?).

How is it a legendary weapon if you haven’t worked for it in a fair way. A legendary now doesn’t say ‘He worked so hard for it’ no it says ’He’s super lucky and really wealthy’.

Lol, you obviously don’t know how much a legendary costs. The precursor isn’t even half the cost, and there are so many things you have to do to earn your legendary that cannot be bought. WvW, Dungeons, etc.

If you have a legendary, YOU WORKED HARD FOR IT.

I’m well aware what is needed for a legendary and how much work goes into it seeing as I’m working on one myself. You completely missed the point of my post.

One person can spend 80 silver on 4 lvl 80 rares and get a precursor yet another person might never get one.

Then the only alternative is to safe up for the 300 to 400 gold to buy one which if playing the game normally takes months.

That’s what my post is about the fact that someone who has a niche in the TP or has real life wealth to gamble with or who is economically minded are the only people who can make enough money reasonably to buy a precursor.

The only alternative is pure luck, a gamble.

Thus why I’m saying you have to be lucky or rich to get a legendary. Sure it’s still a lot of work but the rest is pure luck which is what is the problem here. You should be able to get a legendary without it being a game of chance.

I have to agree that the only way to make enough money in any reasonable fashion is to play the auction house game (which I’m terrible at). It’s unfair that those who monopolize the market get all the cool stuff and there’s no way for those less economically minded to make money.

I’ve played nearly 1000 hours yet I still make maybe 2/3 gold a day which ends up being spend on bits and pieces needed for the legendary and attempting to gamble with the mystic forge. It’s too much of a money pit for those who don’t spend 24/7 at the trading post playing the market or who were early enough to find a niche or able to calculate effectively the possible ways of earning money via the trading post. Otherwise I’d have to safe up for months to get enough while taking in account various every day costs. Is that what you want us to do?

I’m glad they added karma to dungeons but I feel dungeons like Arah that take so much effort and time yet you get maybe 2 gold from it after taking 2 hours or more to complete some paths is unfair when some people are making hundreds of gold daily from playing the trading post within the same amount of time for no effort other than stand around Lion’s Arch calculating.

I tried but I just loose money and it’s disheartening ending every day with less silver than my lvl 15 characters. I’d like an alternative way of making a precursor without having to gamble. Gamble isn’t fair, How is it a legendary weapon if you haven’t worked for it in a fair way. A legendary now doesn’t say ‘He worked so hard for it’ no it says ’He’s super lucky and really wealthy’.

Perhaps make the legendary precursors available from a vendor for a large cost but at least reasonable like 100 gold, 500 Arah tokens, 100k Karma. That way those who don’t want to do the dungeon and karma can still buy them from the trading post but for more money so sure the precursors might be worth less on the trading post but they’re easier to get than farming the items needed to buy the vendor one (perhaps even make that account bound). I don’t know just some way to safe up for precursors without it being a gamble or extortionate amounts of money.

Need tips against condition/shatter build

lol I think the guy has his builds mixed up. Any decent shatter build is not going with sceptor

When you know how to best utilize a Scepter in a suitable build it’s a really good weapon you can get some really nice confusion stacking going. It’s not as amazing as some of the other weapons but certainly not bad either, The only reason to use a scepter is for clone outputting and confusion stacking so yes scepter = a shatter build. It’s the only thing a scepter can be. (Also if you are referring to me as ‘the guy’ I’m a girl).

That sounds like a power build not shatter, Shatter builds generally use Scepter for confusion stacking.

Huh.. I’d like to see a single shatter build using a scepter if possible. As far as I know, scepters are only used for the confusion in a condition heavy build. Shatter builds are usually a Sword with an off hand coupled with a Staff or a GS.

Scepters are specifically designed to quickly spawn clones to shatter and using confusion as a type of damage over time. A staff/scepter combo is great for condition stacking with a condition/shatter damage build.

As I stated though a power build can also function as a shatter build as my build pretty much does that but it’s still a power build mainly where as the shattering is more a byproduct of your phantasms not being strong enough to keep up and the need to use distortion/daze to keep oneself from being harmed rather than it’s main focus.

Using a staff with a one-handed sword is a bad idea purely because the staff’s damage is based on conditions and/or phantasms where as sword is used for a power build and it’s conditions are based on keeping yourself alive and the mob controlled rather than to do damage (same for greatsword).

I actually tried theorycrafting some sort of sword/pistol (sword) and scepter/torch hybrid to do both confusion stacking/shattering using the professions various synergy’s but it compromised both set-ups too much that they both became mediocre (I also don’t get the impression all the different abilities work together as intended).

As much as I would love to be able to use both sword/staff or gsword/staff they don’t really mix well as they are both really different in build style requirements.

I think the issue with Mesmers in PvE is not that they can’t do it but more that they have to work harder to get things done than a lot of other professions. That sounds like a power build not shatter, Shatter builds generally use Scepter for confusion stacking.

Though I’m a power build and favour shattering my illusions for the conditions as I’m not specced for phantasms and they’d die quickly so useless after their initial burst. It’s good to shatter them for the distortion, daze and confusion to keep myself alive.

So I suppose in a way I’m a shatter build as well but you can’t really have a power build without the shatter unless you go phantasm.

You will face a lot of cripples, immobilization, distortion. Be careful not to use your abilities when the Mesmer has distortion on them as they can’t be hurt and you’re just wasting your abilities that way. Wait till it runs out then use your major damage skills.

Power build Mesmers rely heavily on the distortion/daze/cripples to stay alive but they are only able to use the distortion twice, one is the second ability on sword and the other the number 4 shatter. So you have some time between these uses to do damage.

My advice is have abilities that combat cripples and immobilization and wait for distortion to run out to use major damage abilities.

Also keep in mind that when you have confusion on you, you take damage whenever you attack (red swirly symbol) so condition removal that so you don’t hurt yourself by attacking.

Come on what’s going on? Why is there not a peep about this issue? When will it be fixed? Please let us know what’s going on in regards to this issue. This doesn’t just block access to explorables and the dungeon master achievement but also the personal storyline.

You can’t have your ‘end-game’ content bugged 99.9% of the time, This should be fixed before the new content comes out. People are getting seriously frustrated and angry about this issue. Why is there no word about it? Why is it being ignored?

Please fix it, pretty pretty please, I’ll give a cookie!

fay the thing is I agree with you 100%

but Im just stating what Anet seem to use as their mantra

EDIT: My 1st comment was me being sarcastic towards Anet not the idea btw

Ah right I don’t see how that punishes the player as they’re not even playing. It just punishes the guilds for trying to get a good community going which is better for players who are playing.

I feel like guilds aren’t getting as much support as they should. The guild vault setup is dreadful, if any thieves or hackers steal from it you won’t get it returned so the vault has to be permanently closed which defeats the purpose entirely.

There’s no way to see how much % someone has been representing the guild. Sure it’s a nice concept the guild representation thing but please let us see how much people represent, just a percentage will do if you hover over their name.

The guild armour looks dreadful, it’s just plain ugly for the most part. The only nice things are the backpacks, the rifles and shields. The rest is really bland and plain looking.

None of the really cool things promised will happen any time soon such as guild halls. The only fun thing for guilds to spend influence on is the guild banquet which is mediocre at best. We still can’t do keg brawl tournaments either because of the no party’s and party match-ups being allowed.

But yes most annoyingly is the inactivity. There’s no way to see who was last logged on and how long ago it was. Resorting to lots of unnecessary work for guild leaders like we don’t have enough time wasted with all the things mentioned above.

My guild has so much influence now that we can’t even spend it all fast enough either.

why would anet promote such a feature when they said they want people to be able to take breaks without any punishment

Because if people don’t play the game it just clogs up the community with inactive players. Guilds want active players because it’s healthier for the community.

Sure the inactive players make the number nice and big but what point is there in that other than to boast about it? I rather have a good community than boast about a 500 member list of which 480 are inactive.

It’s not about punishment, it’s about doing what’s best for your community. I’ve seen many guilds where loads of members are inactive and they get a bad reputation for it (rightfully so). Guilds aren’t storage houses for accounts who haven’t played in months.

The way we’ve got rid of inactive players is make a topic on your forums, an activity check and give it two weeks for people to respond with their in-game contact name and most played character name (Heavily advertising the topic of course).

Once that deadline has past make a list of all guild members (spreadsheet will help a lot), check everyone whose replied from the list or who you know is active and put a check behind their name.

Then simply sort the column so those without a check are easy to see and start kicking them out. Make sure to leave a message to explain that if they respond within two weeks they can still return to the guild in case they’ve been kicked by mistake. But after that time they’d have to re-apply if they want to join again (or you can choose to deny them access permenantly).

We’ve kicked 50 people that way and only two have responded so far so, it’s a good clean up!

But yes it’s a bit time consuming and annoying to the members, I most definitely agree there needs to be a better system we shouldn’t have to waste so much time making spreadsheets and what not to kick inactive players it’s ridiculous.
