I would really love to see Karma in dungeons. I’m not a big fan of grinding event chains just for karma or WvW. Dungeons are what I love most in this game and spend majority of time doing. I feel that in order to get the legendary I’d have to spend days grinding something I don’t want to do instead of doing what I love.
I’d suggest a similar method to giving tokens. Have a set amount of karma for each path (depending on dungeon level). For each first path of the day you get more karma and repeating the same paths you get a lot less.
Just make sure the karma is more than one events worth because you can easily get a couple of thousand karma from doing event chains in the time it takes for you to do most dungeon paths. Maybe for Arah have 4000 karma for first completion, 2000 for subsequent? I don’t know you get my idea :P

I was level 55 when I did my first explorable dungeon. Since then I’ve been doing dungeons and gradually levelling up in the process. I’ve now completed all dungeons on all paths and so level 80 is definitely not required to do dungeons.
Just follow the recommended level of the dungeon and as long as the party is competent you will do fine. Levels are so overrated don’t put too much emphasis on them.
As for party setups it really doesn’t matter as long as you work well together and you are skilled in your profession. Me and my party of 3 warriors and 2 mesmers completed all 4 Arah paths in 2 days first time we did it without even being entirely exotic geared.
So, level, professions, gear. They aren’t as important factors as people seem to think. Sure they help but skill as a player and a team is what is the real deciding factor.
You can be fully exotic geared, level 80, ‘perfect’ team setup and still loose horribly if there are unskilled players or bad teamwork.

Don’t think the group synergy would work in larger groups or the general fight mechanics. It would just become zergy like the big dynamic events.

I believe they said they’re working on something for people who are colour blind (Don’t quote me on that). I’m quite surprised myself they hadn’t implemented this already but I’m confident they will
If it makes you feel any better, those AOE things are hard to see/avoid even when not colour blind!

So, The problem you are having is that you want to be able to hit 1 repeatedly and win legendaries? Really? All the dungeons are very doable with time, effort and a good team.
If they were impossible me and some other people wouldn’t have the title for completing them all. You have to remember that the dungeons are the raid equivalent content in this game. They aren’t dungeons in the WoW sense of the word.
There’s nothing wrong with the dungeon difficulty, What the real problem here is is the ‘I want everything handed to me for no effort mentality’ that other MMO’s like WoW have instilled in people.
You also seem to miss the point entirely of dungeons it’s not about rewards it’s about enjoying the content itself with the rewards being a perk or purely aesthetic. If you don’t enjoy the dungeons fair enough but Anet have done an amazing job on these dungeons I’m very happy they aren’t listening to all this QQ about difficulty.
As for Guild Wars 2 being traditional, it really isn’t… sure it has basic mechanics of mmo’s but it’s nothing like WoW, Tera, Aion, SWtor or any of the wow clones when it comes to the experience itself or the way it approaches everything.
Edit: Plus, All Blizzard cares about is money and milking you dry. They wouldn’t care less otherwise.

I’ve always loved Kholer in Ascalonian Catacombs but when I met Alphard I just wanted to keep him as a pet
I nicknamed him Mini Kholer and would love to have a mini pet of Alphard. It would make my day!
Also some other bosses would make some awesome mini pets like King Adelbern with that amazing beard of his. Caudecus also with his amazing beard. Searing Effigy and Subject Alpha.
I’d also would totally suggest leashes to be used for pets. It would be pretty hilarious! King Adelbern on a leash!
The only problem I have with pets is that they are so slow to follow that after walking for a minute they’ve all but disappeared.

True. That’s one way of seeing it. But how I see it is, if the minority players with the highest in game play time are happy with endgame content. Then the majority will be happy with the amount of things to do/expect to do:)
All I can suggest is trying to pace yourself more. There’s no need to rush the content. Just mess around in LA for a while or play some hide’n’seek with some friends, do silly stuff in between the content. That’s how I got to 700 hours without having completed all the stuff you have :P
Other than that you can always play other characters for a while. 22nd of october isn’t that far away.

The only problem I have in regards to loot in dungeons is the lack of karma, I love dungeons but I get no karma for it at all. I’m working towards the legendary and I rather be doing dungeons for the karma than grinding event chains in orr or pvp.
• Have you heard of the city? The ancient uru? Where there was power to write worlds •
I’ve done around 700 hours of play and there’s still loads to do and on the 22nd there’s a content patch for halloween so really there’s plenty to do and more to be added soon. The 700/800 hours played mark is really only a small percentage of people who play the game.
Most people have jobs/school and such and so that’s a hell of a lot of hours played versus the amount you spend on buying the game. Most single player games of this quality/price you will be able to complete in a couple of days. Where as other MMO’s are reliant on subscription and grinding to keep you ‘entertained’.
Look at WoW for example it took months before mists of pandaria came out and there was nothing to do after a months time. I don’t see why you would expect GW2 to be supplying you with constant new content when other MMO’s that have subcription are a lot worse in that regards.
What exactly have you completed so far in game?
• Have you heard of the city? The ancient uru? Where there was power to write worlds •

I wish people would stop complaining about the quality of gear from loot. When you vendor them you get a decent amount of money in return and Rares would hardly be ‘Rare’ if they aren’t well… rare.
People also seem to forget that this game isn’t about the gear but the content. If you don’t like the dungeons fair enough but personally.. I love them. I love the challenge. Normal exploration events seem so easy to me now. Other MMO’s didn’t give me the same level of engagement (e.g. I did heroics in WoW)
Some will like the dungeons, some will not. It’s more for a niche market just like other parts of the game aren’t for everyone. I’m not huge on PvP for example.

Me and some of my guildies have also started work on dungeon guides from our perspective. Once I’ve written several I’ll announce it for everyone to use for tips. I’ll be putting a lot of Mesmer tips with them as I know Mesmers are having a tough time in PvE settings.

Is this path 2? If so, Turn up your sound effects. There is a sound effect you hear before he does the massive AOE spikes that cover majority of the floor. You can easily dodge it if you take note of the timing. It’s kind of like ‘Sound..1..2..3..SPIKES’ on 3 you want to dodge. So you can easily stay standing in that.
The fight is much harder if you have for example your own music playing and don’t realize there is a timing to it.

Hello Simin T_T It’s so difficult to get a team scheduled up to actually go and kill that kitten. This is really the one and only path to stand in my way of the Dungeon Master achievement. But oh well, soon we’ll have it done.
Btw, what’s the deal with the Hobby Dungeon Explorer title? What’s required for that?
It’s hard in a steady team to find time where all 5 people are available. That’s why the gate being closed all the time is such a major issue. Luckily we were able to get into Arah because Helansin transferred to Underworld (From our own realm Desolation) where the gate isn’t bugged and so we were able to complete the dungeon this weekend. Via the Cross-realm dungeon function.
As for Hobby Dungeon Master as the above person mentioned it’s not actually a Title but rather a repeatable achievement for more points. See below picture I took where you can see what I mean:

Congrats, it’s a pretty cool title. Certainly nicer than combat healer.xD
Don’t settle for PuG’s because you ruin half the fun from doing the content (The company of good friends).
Nice and all, but what if you have friends who aren’t into dungeons, and have a guild that doesn’t want to do the difficult paths?
…yeah…
Awww
Surely there are plenty of people who want to do explorables? I know that there are many in my guild alone. You’d have to meet new people outside your friend/guild circle.
Perhaps while you’re doing pugs and standing around in a city try to engage with people around you. I feel like people have such a bad habit from ‘real life’ where they create a bubble around themselves in regards to strangers and stick to polite responses. Unless they are in a guild with you.
But you’d be surprised how many nice people are around if you actually try to talk to them and show interest. Of course it also means you are more likely to run into not so nice people but I generally find it easy/quick to see which category a person falls in.
I felt the entire dungeon journey was a journey of bonding with my guild members and it truly enriched the experience for me (And I’m pretty sure they had more fun as well). You talk about all sorts of things in between fights not just tactics.
Where as with PuG’s sure most things are doable if you are lucky to get a good one but when I do pug it always appears to me as if nobody really talks or there’s someone who suddenly thinks it acceptable to treat people badly because of it being a pug.
Not to mention that you don’t learn each others playstyles well and communication/coordination can be pretty abysmal. When you do a lot of dungeons with the same people regularly you all settle into different roles, you learn each others strengths/weaknesses and assign people to tasks according to what they are best at.
That’s why I said don’t settle for PuG’s yes they are doable but they make the journey generally more frustrating and less enriching. That’s why I would recommend to anyone to try to find several good people who like explorables just as much. Then to really make the effort to get a steady group going.
• Have you heard of the city? The ancient uru? Where there was power to write worlds •
Me (Lilyfay) and three of the people in my steady dungeon team have just received the Dungeon Master title! I’m so happy I just wanted to share it with all of you.
It’s been one heck of a journey, sometimes frustrating, sometimes it made us want to cry but we stuck with it and got there in the end. We’ve had so much fun overall working together, figuring out how to beat all the encounters.
So for those people who are struggling with the dungeons, It is possible to do all of it. Don’t get discouraged. Find yourself a good bunch of people you can have a laugh with and who are patient enough to work through the fights (Even if it takes hours). Don’t settle for PuG’s because you ruin half the fun from doing the content (The company of good friends).
If you ever need any advice in regards to any encounter feel free to whisper me in game and I’ll do what I can to help you out.
As for the Dev’s thank you for the amazing content. The beautiful atmospheric views, Some awesome boss fights (Kholer, Subject Alpha, Giganticus Lupicus, Alphard etc.) also the silly stuff and jokes (Ooze boss, Turkeys, Pillows fights in Caudecus’ Manor). Can’t wait to try new dungeons hopefully in a new content patch in the near future (hint hint)
Of course just wanted to say thank you to the people who helped me get there especially those who were with me most of the way. Vraex Bloodclaw, Serojoal, Xanthiel Novareil, Leferath, Helansin Garanik and many more. You’re all still nabs to me but I love you all

It only works as long as one party member is in the other realm where the dungeon is available. We tried to see if I could walk outside of the portal and end up behind the closed gate but it ported me in front of it and if the person from the other realm left the group would be kicked from the dungeon so the only way to do it is to send one of your team to a realm that’s not bugged.

After completing storymode we were messing around. Curious to find out if we could get into the centre area of the map where there was an unreachable point of interest.
To our surprise we found a gaping hole in the barrier that allowed for a warrior to jump down using the reduced fall damage and then rez people so we were able to get to the point of interest and also glitch through the surrounding walls.
Seeing as we were able to get to all kinds of areas of the map we felt this might be an exploitable glitch. We don’t know if you can also do this in explorable mode. Either way we decided to record it so it could be fixed.

Really? Seriously!? We had this whole weekend set aside to try work on Arah and AGAIN we can’t because of the gate being closed and bugged. This is unacceptable really, Your major ‘end game’ PvE content is unavailable most of the week for weeks now!
Restart the server, remove the gate till you find a better solution. It’s not hard just please let us enjoy the content. It’s just incredibly frustrating!
The only time Arah is available is just after a server restart and then bugs out within a day then is unavailable till next restart which is a whole week generally.
It’s not easy to find the time as a steady dungeon group to be able to do a dungeon the second the server restarts. People have jobs and other obligations. I don’t understand why it hasn’t been fixed or temporarily the gate removed already, I really don’t.
I have to say this is the first time I’ve been properly annoyed about a bug. We’ve been patient for weeks now this should have been hotfixed weeks ago. Please just reset the server so we can enjoy Arah this weekend.

I have to agree that too many bosses are reliant on huge health pools in this dungeon rather than interesting mechanics. I do like the one with the cute wolf boss though I’d suggest making him harder but with less health. His mechanics are pretty neat otherwise.
The worst ones are the underwater end bosses it’s just a simple 30 minute kite where you tediously take down his health. I understand that it being underwater you want to make it more forgiving but a huge health pool just makes it tedious instead.

I’d advice levelling your Mesmer in PvE first so you become familiar with the abilities and different weapon sets as you go along rather than jumping headlong into sPvP with one. They’re one of the hardest professions to master and aren’t as straightforward as. Press 1,2,3 to win.

I’m sorry to hear about your bad experience but this is quite typical as to why you want to avoid PuG’s while doing explorable dungeons. The best way to get through the content is to try to find a steady dungeon team that help each other get through all the content and get tokens for each others gear.

I’m a Mesmer and I melee Subject Alpha most of the time….I’m also not toughness build either though I do have some vitality. Asking for tanks is silly. Asking for skilled players is not.
Yeah, some guy said he was looking for experienced players in his CoE party. I completed all paths several times, so I said I’ll join. Then he goes on asking about my profession, and says he needs to know for an efficient party. 15 minutes later I still see him asking for a Warrior or Guardian because he doesn’t want to die 20 times in an instance (or so he said to me).
Well I’m quite capable of going melee on this guy and not dying and when things get heated I swap to ranged but generally as long as you dodge the attacks and his various abilities with skill you can stay melee as a Mesmer.
The distortion when timed right stops him from harming me and I have the 3 x mantra trait which is great with the condition removal mantra in case I couldn’t dodge the burn effect in time.
Sword/Pistol also help with the immobilisation, vulnerabilities and stuns to keep him stationary.
So mesmers can tank certain bosses just fine if done properly. Not just guardians/warriors though they are less likely to die from mistakes true.

Just here to give some feedback in regards to the searing effigy fight.
So in the past I voiced my concern about it being too difficult because it was too highly based on RNG and/or DPS output and there were some things the boss did that gave no indication of it happening (Such as the burning effect) and getting the regen stacks down was difficult.
I’m happy about the general improvements of the fight like being able to see the burn effect AOE that really helps a lot by giving the control back to the player in the regards to that ability. I also like that the crystals were made weaker al though I feel they were made too weak now.
So now my concern about the effigy fight is that I feel it’s been nerfed too much. I also felt like my feedback should be constructive since I was one of the ones voicing my concern of the difficulty previously and I don’t particularly want to come across as one of those typical QQ’ers but rather help balancing out the fight. I suppose it’s a hard balance to strike so after doing the fight a few times and carefully thinking of what feedback to give to balance the fight better here are some of my suggestions.
What I would suggest is making the crystals harder but not as hard as before (An in between would be better) also I would make it so that in order to do damage to the boss he has to have a maximum of 5/7 regen/might stacks on him. Any more and he becomes immune to damage. This would force people to deal with the crystals as was intended rather than burning straight through him with the help of poisons. By making the crystals a bit harder it will make the fight more challenging and less zergy in feeling.
I absolutely love the mechanics of this fight it’s one of my favourites together with subject alpha, kholer and lupicus. So I’d like to see this fight balanced perfectly so it’s not too hard or too easy and that nuking down is no longer a viable tactic.
I’m just slightly concerned as well about these suggestions because it would be very easy to make it too hard again. Currently path 1 is considered the easiest now which is not what I hoped would come out of my concern of difficulty as I’ve stated before I like the dungeons to be hard but within the players skill to combat.
My concern with the Effigy was that it was too depended on DPS output previously and the crystal tactic was hard because the crystals had too much health. I think with my above suggestions of making him immune if the crystals aren’t dealed with and making the crystals slightly harder but not as hard as before it ‘should’ strike a balance.
Either way I feel that the boss shouldn’t be able to be nuked down so easily. I’d like to see parties having to confront the mechanics of this fight as it’s good practice leading up to subject alpha and lupicus.
